Thanatos | Outsider
They dispersed like a wave returning to the ocean or a flock of Apana escaping from the pressure of a dog chasing them. Thanatos watched, his lips curling in mild amusement as the young equines skittered down the tunnels yelling and screaming something about a monster. "Ridiculous," he scoffed, staring after them. "Monster." He wrinkled his nose at the word, wondering when this pitiful existence would come to an end. It was starting to become a daily occurrence as young equines hear rumours of a 'ghost' or as they so politely put it a 'monster' was living in the tunnels. Thanatos tried to escape them as much as he could, but those little blighters would always find him, but they would never come further enough to actually see and speak with him. Not one of them was brave enough to investigate further much further than hearing him scrape his cloven hooves against a gem or clack his antlers against the stones. Anything that might create a loud enough noise to scare them off and leave him be. He was beginning to get creative with it and used his size and dark colouration to his advantage. He could create shadows with certain light and in certain shadows could appear as a massive dark form that would send the bravest skittering over the rough stones and running back to their herd mates. It was a rather pitiful existence, being forced to lurk in the shadows of old tunnels while he was becoming something of folk lore to these equines. No one welcomed him out in the open either. He had tried speaking with many in the streets of the city but just like those youngsters did all they seemed to do was run.

After having met his first Kirin, the rumors the herd was whispering off where true. The beasts with slitted eyes, hides speckled with that of their dragon kin. Monsters. Nightmares. The unicorn snarled inside his abode. To think these creatures of old, of myth and story, the ones who destroyed his herd in te first place, would be granted the ability to live here. In peace! He would need to speak to the king on such matters. This was not ok. Not when the history books described their actions in great detail. With a hard breath he calmed his enraged mind, brew tea and settling down in front of his fire. The tinted the flames blue, to wash his home in the cool color. No more red.
As days passed, notes began to slip under his door, proclaiming the phantom that lurked in the shadows off the capital. He took the first few as merely a coincidence but as more, at least 2 a day populated his foyer, Nuriko had to take action. With a soft breath, eyes narrowed on the mirror he fitted his cloak over his form, fastening each latch with ease. The tunnels could be cold and being lithe and dainty meant the rocky mountain roan unicorn was almost always cold. Glancing back over his abode he took his leave and ventured forth.
His appearance was taken as a great sign. That someone would protect them, rid the shadow from potentially harming them. With soft eyes and soothing words, Nuriko stepped forward, following in the gesturing of the most recent sightings. A lantern was gifted to him, which the unicorn took with ease and started forward. His going was slow, knowing this particular tunnel happened to have very uneven footing and large jutting gems from the sides. He moved the lantern around smoothly, making sure to alight each crevice, each hiding place, each corner. After about an hour, a sound caused his ears to flicker forward. Lantern swung around to his hind end settling on the ground.
He would go ahead in darkness. To give whatever it was less of an opportunity to jump him. "Excuse me, Shadow? Which I presume you are not, but you are scaring many innocent individuals. Do you care to speak?" Might as well give it a chance to converse otherwise a quick shout would send some guards running towards the lantern glistening in the darkness.

Thanatos | Outsider
Barely any time had passed when Thanatos heard the sound of hoof beats clacking against the hard, stony surface once again. His ears twisted behind him, listening for the typical tell tale signs of another group of youngsters approaching and stifled a sigh. Not again, had they not had enough of him already? Or were they finally beginning to get brave? Thanatos turned swiftly down a tunnel that he knew lead to no where, using the shadows to his advantage, like always. He wished he could cast his own light on this darkness, but that was not possible. Not while those of this strange underground world shunned and feared him. It made such things very difficult.
In the distant tunnel he made could see a light, possibly from a lantern, drifting up the tunnel. He did not hear the typical giggles or excited chatter of fearful foals, which was odd. But the lantern wasn't moving on it's own, he knew. Thanatos turned and raised his hoof, striking the wall closest to him with a loud clap. The sound was sharp, echoing through the tunnels but he didn't stop there. Turning his head, he placed his antlers against a wall of gemstones, dragging them across the surface. It was a hollow sound, musical almost as the gemstones rang in a high note. He expected to hear the sounds of screams, yelling and scrambling hooves as youngsters turned tail and run. However as the sounds began to die down and Thanatos returned to his viewing point, expecting to see the lamp either thrown on the ground or bobbing back down the tunnels he was greeted with a sight that startled even him.
The lantern sat on the ground and a figure was actually approaching him. Thanatos was prepared to make more threatening noises to shoo the nosy equine away when they spoke. The Kirin peered curiously around the corner, his slitted eyes landing suspiciously on the stranger, scrutinising them in the darkness. He could only see a faint silhouette, illuminated from behind. "What is it you want?" Thanatos spoke finally, emerging from his spot in the darkness to appear as a tall and foreboding figure in the shadows. He held his head high, looking down upon the equine who was the first to speak to him in many nights.

The noises where harsh. Angry. Almost chaotic yet controlled.
Though as he spoke the cracking and scoring of rocks and gems stopped. Interesting. A figure moved, he could see it, darker then the shadows around him. His lantern was lifted, a few feet behind him and brought to his side.
The tall foreboding figure did not unsettle the equine. His suspensions had rung true and before Nuriko stood yet another Kirin. Of course. A soft head tilt rustled the pin straight perfectly combed mane, the bottom of it cascade and slipping over his cloak. The tunnels where always so cold. Horns caught the edges of the lanterns glow, seeming to light up themselves as he took in the nearly pure as black figure. "Actually, Shadow. I am here to find out what you want." He did not bow to the figure nor did he look away from the stare. Having already conversed with Mairon he knew the Kirin's had no concept of etiquette, so why extend the gesture when it would fall on deaf eyes?
Instead he flicked his tail once and brought the lantern closer. "I suspect you know little of your own existence and why you have been... 'banished' to these shadows. Come, shall we talk while I lead you out?" He knew another Kirin would upset the herd but having a 'disgruntled poltergeist' would only make matters worse. Yet, he liked the way this one had handled the existence he had been re gifted. Maybe he could make use of him... Turning slightly, so as never to have his back fully to the other, Nuriko gestured with his head towards the cave he had come from. "Unless you prefer your shadows and solitude..."

Thanatos | Outsider Thanatos narrowed his icy gaze on the stranger who spoke to him. They moved the lantern closer, breaking apart more of the shadows that had been his source of comfort and protection for what felt like weeks. It's soft light was warm and inviting, a stark contrast to the kind of reception he had received ever since he had woken up in the middle of Nariah. He gazed down at the unicorn, then back up through the tunnel they had come through. "And I suspect that you know the answers to these questions?" He said softly, his eyes landing back on the lantern as the light stirred something deep and ancient within him. It was a sensation he thought he knew but quite like a word being stuck on the tip of his tongue, he couldn't reach the feeling to find out exactly what it was. Thanatos flicked his own long, dark tail, the hairs creating a light 'swoosh' across the stone floor as he listened to the unicorn's...invite. If he could even call it that, it sounded more like a command or an expectation that he would follow the unicorn without complaint back into a world he knew nothing of.
"Perhaps I do." Thanatos said, not moving as the unicorn turned, driving home the idea of the unicorn thought that the Kirin to follow him like a loyal pet. Ignoring the motion, Thanatos instead opted to obtain the information he wanted right then and there. "What is it that you know that I do not?"

A game. A dance.
This was what it was turning out to be. The smooth head turned back towards the shadow in the darkness, meeting the eyes, the only thing that really truly stood out within the black abyss behind him. "I may not know all the answers, but I assure you I will at least be able to guide you in the right direction." Had to ease him into it it seemed. This one was stubborn, more so then Mairon and did not play the same word games. How curious. Their personalities where as vast as the scales upon their bodies. But the underlying truth of it all was they where all murders.
Regardless if they could truly see that or not.
Even his suggestion to lead him out had been too forward. If he didn't step carefully Nuriko would need to work even harder to shield this shadow from the patrons ahead. "Well I know that your very existence does not belong in these tunnels, Alone." Would not let him know that other Kirin's had 'spawned' here as well. The last thing they needed was for them to get back together, to form a herd within a herd. The high king really needed to be addressed about this matter. It was getting out of hoof. The lantern behind him flickered, dancing against the darkness as the King's Guide gestured once more towards the tunnel entrance.
"You must be hungry. Come, why don't we find you something to eat. The herd here would also be more at ease to know their 'poltergeist' is a fellow equine." It fizzled and burned his tongue to act so kind towards a Kirin, to treat them as if they where on the same ground. But he could see that this was what this Kirin needed. At least for now. Maybe these efforts wouldn't even matter in the end. But Nuriko still had to try, for his herd, his home.

Thanatos | Outsider
From the moment he had awoken, feeling akin to being naked while surrounded by unknown faces and strange surrounding, Thanatos had received nothing from these equines. They showed fear, bitterness and a deep, unfathomable hatred that Thanatos could not understand. He had known nothing of this new world except the faint and frustrating feeling as though he were missing a part of himself. He knew that he was not in Valore but that was about the extent of his memory. As fleeting as it was, he held onto that knowledge when the equines seemed to drive him out of their city and he took to the tunnels, trying to find a sky that he could see no trace of. And to top it all off he was treated like entertainment, frightening off young foals who thought they might see a 'monster' as they had so eloquently described him as. Thanatos did not find the unicorn's silken words to be alluring and enticing, in fact he felt the opposite. As though his hooves might sink into the cold stone so he could never move, Thanatos shifted his weight back, resisting the urge to curl his top lip at the unicorn.
He was tired of not knowing, of being treated as though he were less then these beings when it should have been the opposite. As a Kirin they should have treated him with far more respect, far more dignity then a piece of faecal matter on their hooves. "You keep dancing around the truth," he said in a matter-of-fact tone, ignoring the offers to follow the unicorn once again. He couldn't help but wonder if it were a ploy to simply humiliate the Kirin more. Living under these circumstances were far from ideal, after all. "No one has treated me with any sort of kindness since I awoke. And yet here you are offering me food as a fellow equine." He scrutinised the unicorn further, looking for signs that he was lying and that this was a ploy against him. "I imagine you can see why I hesitate."

"Then we shall converse in the shadows."
Simple. Cut, done, clean. Nuriko was not one to lose his patience or calm easily and merely adapted himself to the situation. Moving the lantern forward, he set it down beside his own hoof, tired of holding the object. Not that it weighted much, but he was not one to hold things for no reason. With a small hip crock, he steadied himself and prepared to stand for a while. Make himself comfortable, why not. "While I may be good at dancing with my hooves, I'm afraid I do not understand why you think I am dancing with my words. Come, ask me a question that you really want to answer to." Now it was a challenge. This black mass of untrust and unease would not come out of his shadows. That was fine, but they needed to move forward with their conversation instead of just sparing back and forth.
He was a King's Guide, here to aid his herd, regardless who was in his herd. If this meant Kirin's then he would do his best to be that barrier between them and the rest of his home, regardless of the taste it left on his tongue. Except for one Kirin. He could handle that beige cream colored beast of flame just fine.
