Xia
Navigating through the streets of Nariah was normally no problem for Xia. However, with the recent explosions and the rubble coating the ground had made his mental map obsolete. It was like his world had been flipped upside-down during the tremors as he attempted to lead the civilians away from the fires and to safety. In the aftermath, many streets had been closed off due to collapsed buildings. Luckily for Xia he still remembered the ways through the streets, but his cane was needed. The blind horse could live with that at least. Now, however, Xia was on a mission. He’d been back in the city for a few days, helping to clear away what he could. Though his duty was a consul, Xia’s heart was always with Sirith and her cities. The capital was his home and the home of his family and friends and king, so no matter what orders he was given he wouldn’t leave until Nariah and her citizens were safe and comfortable. Eventually he’d travel back to the herd of Cascade, but for now he was needed at home. That didn’t mean the Consul wouldn’t take breaks however. Xia had been working himself to the bone most days in order to help, leaving him weary and exhausted by the end of the day. So, after a long day of cleaning Xia decided that he had earned a well-deserved break, and knew just who he wanted to spend it with. It’d been months since he’d last seen Nuriko, and he’d been dying to catch up with his old friend and favorite subject to tease. Though it took him slightly longer than usual, Xia managed to find his way to the home of the King’s Guide. His cane lightly rapped on the door, trying to get the attention of the resident within. No matter how well he shut himself in, Xia would be able to tell that Nuriko was home. “You might as well come out now, Nuri! I know you never leave.” the hippocampus called out with a laugh.

NURIKO
Fire. Fire had been the culprit, spewed forth by scaled uncontrollable beasts. Why would the Aodhian king think it wise to bring such creatures below ground?! He scowered over maps, making notes and marks along the parchment, crossing off tunnels no longer standing. He was trying to think of new ways to rebuild these pathways, sculpting new routes with each swipe of his brush. Eventually the equine stood and shook himself off. How long had he been leaning over his desk, writing and drawing this new proposal? Neck popped as the unicorns head turned stiffly to the side, scouring at the sound. Such naivety. On both counts. But the kings would learn, they must.
Legs stretched, each one reaching far out from his body before he moved to settle in front of his fire, warming up properly. His circulation had been cut off slightly. Catching a small glimmer from the corner of his eye Nuriko gave pause. "Ah yess..." He purred to himself, grinning wide suddenly. Prancing up to the package he devoured the wrapping, tossing it in all directions with his Teke. Cleanup would happen later, this could not wait. As the box opened the stallion's heart soared. It was exactly what he had ordered.
---------
When the cane rapped against the door, Nuriko whipped his head to the object, wishing the one on the other side to burst into flames. He was busy! Face was adorned with gems and finely crafted chains. His neck and mane followed the same, seeming to be right in the middle of applying some anklets. A small sneer appeared on his face, hearing the voice behind the door. This was a gift to himself for all his hard work and the Hippocampus was ruining it! Probably because he wanted to 'take him out on the town' again. Head tipped back with exasperation, heaving himself up like it was the hardest task on the planet to do. Standing on all fours once more he used the pale bright blue Teke to open the door, his rump towards the other as he admired his finery in front of the mirror.
"You can't see my expression, but surely you realize I'm very busy right now, yes?" He wanted to make sure the other realized just how lucky he was, that Nuriko had decided to open the door. Decided he was allowed to grace the other with his presence. "One of my orders arrived. I wish you could truly see how stunning I look right now, Xia." He sighed and extended a hoof, watching the ankle glitter and shimmer in the shifting light. "I also never said you could call me that either." The unicorns mood was clearly on the verge of being overly annoyed. He liked being a hermit for the most part.

Xia
Xia could only laugh at his friend’s haughty attitude. Of course he would manage to walk in on Nuriko playing dress up. The hippocampus softly walked into the landing, cane rapping away at the floor. Xia rarely actually came into the unicorn’s home, so he had to rely heavily on his cane in order to maneuver around the various furniture. Luckily, the plan was to not stay here long enough for him to move that far. Xia stopped in the archway, grinning at his friend. He could hear the tinkling of jewelry and rustle of metal links against each other. “The gods themselves could feel your expression from the heavens my friend.” he said loftily, rolling his eyes at Nuriko’s antics. Xia could practically feel Nuriko’s eyes rolling in their sockets. “And I am sure you look stunning, I can hear all those metals and gems. You have created quite the hoard. I am almost jealous.” Xia snorted. Even if he couldn’t see the other stallion, Xia was sure he was preening in the mirror like a puffed up peacock. “You would fit right in with the Talorians.” The stallion muttered under his breath as the hippocampus moved further into the house, wooden cane back to tapping against the stone floor. He stopped close to Nuriko with a huge grin on his face. “Well, Ko-ko,” he stressed the nickname smugly with a stifled giggle “as busy as you might be, you still need to get out of the house once in a while.” Xia told the stallion, poking him in the side with the finer tip of his cane. “You cannot be a hermit your whole life! Who will hang out with me besides my brother? But alas, even he has become too busy for me. I am so lonely Ko-ko!” Xia bemoaned, giving the unicorn a mock pitiful look. It was a tiny white lie in reality. Jie had been stuck to his twin’s side almost every day since the blind equine had arrived back in Nariah. Nuriko didn’t need to know that however.

"You should be, I only commission the finest jewellery makers. Just so happens that most of them reside in the new gen. Makes my political position stronger." Head bent to the side, body shifting too and fro in front of the mirror. It was rare when Nuriko shared his inner thoughts, but he considered Xia one of his closest friends. At least as close as he would let anyone get since Suki's death. Tail flicked once like a cat, flicking the long precisely cut hair from side to side. "Talorians would be a herd I could 'consider' visiting. I do like water. But the open air might drive me mad." Voice dripped easily from his lips, applying the last anklet to his look.
Like a cockatoo with a reflective surface, Nuriko couldn't stop looking at himself. He was perfect. Gorgeous, stunning. All those words mixed together. After all if Argus had gifted them these caves, why not adorn himself with the gems hidden in the walls? Yet the other just had to pester him more. Head tipped back, snarling weakly as the cane prodded his side. What a nuisance. And that name! Twice. Head shook hard, starting to peel off each piece of jewellery delicately from his body.
"Xia...." The male started, drawing out the word as he left it hanging. A hidden threat lingering in the air. "Do not treat me like one of your mares. These weird shortenings of my name are rude and strange." A huff was given as the last metal gift wafted from his hide, floating into his specialty box, used just for them. "As for leaving my home... I like my home. I get my peace and quiet. And I can look my best, just for myself." Another huff and the unicorn turned to flick his tail over the others nose. "Having known me for so long, I would have thought your memory better then this." Sparring with words was one of his favorite enjoyments. Xia seemed to be the perfect combatant for it.
He moved to grab his cloak after brushing out his mane and fastened the thick fabric around his body with the soft bright blue Teke. "Well... Where are you taking me then? Your treat of course."

Xia
The stallion could only nod his head in agreement. “It is a good plan, getting to know the younger generation and gaining their trust. I think it silly that the generations are being separated based just on ideology. After all, Argus has created us all.” Xia shrugged with a soft smile. Once in a while the hippocampus would wax philosophic, it was one of the subjects he loved about being a Monk. However, those days were behind him and he would no longer preach. Perhaps that is the only thing he missed about his old life before becoming a Consul. It was fun, wooing a crowd with his preaching and blessings to the side of Argus. He still prayed whenever he could, even while visiting Aquore. Xia shifted nervously when Nuriko expressed interest in visiting the Talorians. “I am not so sure my friend. They can be…extreme.” Xia muttered to himself. He’d heard whispers of what happened around him as he walked through the streets of Inaria. The hostile words to the pegasi made his insides curdle. The whispers of forbidden love between those of the same sex. How strictly gender was dictated by appearance. It was quite the culture shock when he had first arrived to stay with the Talorians. It was almost enough to make him run back into the welcoming arms of Nariah. After experiencing this all first hand, Xia had kept his mouth shut about his own sexuality and heritage, he was already an outsider and didn’t need any more reasons to be targeted with distrust. At Nuriko’s mention of “his mares” the blind equine could only let out a bark of laughter. “Oh my dear friend, you know my lovers adore the nicknames. They swoon at them, and I swoon at the beauty of my lovelie’s hearts.” he wasn’t lying either. Though recently he’d been left single, Xia loved all of his partners with his heart. He couldn’t favor one of the other at any time. “But, if it makes you uncomfortable, I suppose I could cut it out.” The Xia muttered disappointedly, however, when the unicorn stallion told Xia that he was willing to get out as long as he paid, the hippocampus grinned wickedly. “My dear friend, you cannot be anti-social all day, that is why I am here.” He told the other stallion a she bustled toward the door. “We are going to relax after a long day of hard work.” The consul said mischievously, opening the door and ready to set out.

NURIKO
His cloak was applied in a flurry of movement, swinging it around his form in the most showy way possible. He knew Xia couldn't see the action but the mass disturbance of air and the rustling of fabric against his body would be all the other needed in order to put the pieces together. His Teke did up the clasp with a smooth slide of metal, leaving the roan unicorn mostly shielded from the cold temperature outside his home. Xia exited first, allowing Nuriko his time to take that final breath and give a silent prayer to the Argus statue by his front door. A hoof tip rippled the small pool of water under it before he left, locking the door behind him.
Hooves clinked pleasantly against the stone roads they walked, the two old friends talking in time as Nuriko took the more... Unsteady side of the road to gift the white stallion as much of a stumble free walk as he could manage. Xia was fairly well versed in the roads around Nuriko's home but there was always that new shift of rock or rise in the road that he didn't always remember. "So, Friend, where a bouts are you treating me? I do hope its that calm well dressed bar I do love so much." His mind drifted with a soft smile as he remembered the floating gems and the way the bar glimmered and sparkled in the blue and purple up lighting. One of his favorite places besides his home. With a calm breath he moved a rather large stone out of Xia's way with a flick of his Teke, eyes drifting over the others form.
"You seem more tired then usual Xia. Is something the matter?"

Xia
The pure white stallion trotted with a grin on his muzzle and the stars sparkling in his blind eyes as he led his friend down the path. He waited for brief second outside as Nuriko threw on his cloak with a flourish, a gesture that Xia’s sharp ears picked up on the dense cloth sailing through the air, which made the Consul roll his eyes with both annoyance and affection over his friend’s dramatics. As soon as the other stallion had finished his prayer to Argus, that Xia quite appreciated and did his own short prayer under his breath, he was off and dragging his friend long by an invisible thread. Nuriko was free to leave whenever he wanted, but Xia hoped that their friendship would have the unicorn sticking by his side. “We, my friend, are going somewhere new.” Xia told Nuriko with a mysterious look in his eyes and a mischievous grin plastered on his face. There was a bar that Xia had quite literally stumbled into one day while he was wandering around during his missionary days through Sirith. It had quickly had become his favorite due to the cheerful atmosphere, the décor of paintings of Argus and other gods that seemed to move on their own with gems studding them that changed daily, and the softly spoken whispers of the other patrons. Of course, Xia couldn’t see the pictures, but the barkeep had been more than happy to boast about their complex paintings. Xia was sorely tempted to hum under his breath in happiness just thinking about the bar when Nuriko asked about him. The Consul almost stumbled over nothing, but caught himself just in time before he could trip. Not wanting to worry his friend, Xia simply looked over his shoulder at the other stallion with grin. “I am fine, my friend.” He reassured Nuriko, picking up his pace.

NURIKO
Fine. Understatement of the year. He'd been friends with Xia long enough to know when the stallion was having an off day. Yet he seemed to be in good spirits and Nuriko decided he would pry later after a few drinks. He moved another small rock out of the stallions way, continuing by his side down the stretch of road. Xia had always been such an interesting equine. His blindness never slowed him down, not really and the unicorn really did admire him for that. It was a friend the unicorn sorely needed in his life.
With a small head toss, the unicorn huffed softly, his mane perfectly combed out and straighten fluttered from the action. "Somewhere new? Xia, now you've gotten me wanting to run back home to the safety of my mirror. I am in so state to be somewhere new! Everyone expects me to look my best. And I am clearly not dressed to my best." He trotted slightly, letting the cloak rustle on his form to prove his point exactly. If he was going somewhere new, in the public eye, he had to look his best. Everyone around these parts knew his horns and he could barely go anywhere without someone bowing and telling him what they thought they needed from the king. Everyone needed something and yet there was only so much he could do...

Xia
The blind stallion gave a laugh at Nuriko’s dramatics. Always the vain stallion, Nuriko was. “I am pretty sure they have a saying about vanity and all that, Nuriko” Xia teased, looking over at the unicorn with a highly amused grin. “But, don’t worry! You’ll fit right in…maybe.” Sure the bar was a little lower class than Nuriko was used to, but for Xia, he was used to low grade things. He’d been a monk for a good long while, rubbing shoulders with the common class. He rather liked it, getting to know most, if not all, of those living in the tiny villages outside of Nariah. It was fascinating to learn about their lives. “Just you wait and see my friend.” The white stallion smiled and turned back towards the road. ________________________
It took a fair minute of walking but Xia stopped when he smelled the familiar scent of fruity ale and the quiet murmur of celebrating patrons. Xia grinned and tapped his way to the door with the cane. Though he couldn’t see it, the building was squat and carved into the side of the cave wall, the front face was made out of cherry wood that was surely imported from the top-side. It was rather plain looking besides a piece of wood jutting out sideways from above the door, a pentagonal sign hanging from a metal rod that proudly displayed the name of the establishment: “A”. “Here we are!” Xia proclaimed proudly. He was quite happy that he had managed to get to the bar all on his own power, and not relying entirely on someone else. Quickly, the white stallion opened the door with his cane and trotted inside with his head high and a shit-eating grin on his face. He wasn’t sure if the mare was currently working the bar but he still called out loudly “Sitara! I am back! I brought a friend with me this time!”. He could practically feel most of the patrons gaze snap back to look at him in the doorway, cane tapping away as he attempted to make his way to the bar. He hoped Nuriko would like the bar. Most of the equines in the fine establishment were from the younger generation, the makers and driven. He knew Nuriko had a soft spot for the generation, or at least their fashion.
