The thing about the Council is that they can be damned useful if they're in their offices, but with the way their jobs work, you're luck to see them in Inaria at all unless something serious is going on. As it were, Thaumas felt he had a fairly slim chance of finding the mare he needed to find today, but he figured that his best bet was to poke his head into Council chambers and, even if she wasn't around, perhaps get her attention by messenger. And before you ask, it wasn't the kind of errand he could send a messenger of his own to run. Yes, alright, fine, as part of the Trinity it wouldn't be inappropriate for her to come to him rather than vice-versa, but what would that look like? "Summon Councillor Nymph, but I won't tell you what for." How annoyingly opaque can one person be? And besides, that's not his style. (And also he'd been bent over his maps all morning and his back was cramping, so the walk was doing him good even if he'd never admit the soreness.) It was a little before lunchtime as he neared the big, ornate state rooms where the Council conducted official business. He could smell food cooking somewhere, and it was with a very strong silent reminder to himself that he ignored his stomach and entered the hall, set on finding Nymph. And possibly a sandwich. words: 239 tags: kawaiideadpool notes: closed thread for thaumas & nymph! i'm just sort of assuming that official state business happens in the palace (as in game of thrones, for example) but if this is wrong someone please let me know and i'll change the venue asap! <3

The lightly painted mare was walking through the halls with her ears flat against her neck in annoyance. How much more annoyed could she get? Being one of the most preferred Council members it wasn't that odd for her to be chased down by some of the darling people of Aqoure. She never got time to herself and with a messenger hounding at her side, she could feel her blood boiling under her skin as words flew out of his mouth in an alarming rate.
Hunger, moodiness and just being done with everything today caused her to turn and snap at the young stallion that was following her. Her right eyebrow twitched in annoyance as he looked at her like a puppy who had just done something that displeased his master before he tucked his tail and ran. Smiling to herself she popped a few of her bones before turning to head into her small little chamber. Half way through her door, something caught her attention.
A sturdy stallion seemed to be heading her way, and with a crocked up eyebrow she studied him before praying to Cascade that he wasn't here to bother her, for that was the last thing the mare wanted right now.

And against all odds, there she was. It was fortunate for him, really, because Thaumas was the type of horse who liked to get things done. He had always been very conclusion-driven, making careful plans and studying his results with great attention to detail. He felt stressed when he had loose ends not yet tied, even if what his mind categorized as a loose end was really no more than a strand still being woven, as this would have been had he required the use of a messenger to reach Nymph. As it were, his heart breathed a little sigh of unconscious relief at the realization that he'd be able to get something done on this front today. The Lady Councillor was a small, petite little thing, all delicate bones and feminine grace, and were it not for the way in which she'd caught his attention, he might've been fooled into thinking she aspired to divinity. But she'd absolutely wrecked that young messenger just there, so perhaps not. And he locked eyes with her as she paused, and he didn't look away. "Councillor," he called quietly, his deep voice rolling through the hall. As he drew near enough to speak to her quietly without being overheard, he added, "I've some business with you today. Let us speak somewhere privately." words: 219 tags: kawaiideadpool notes: subtextually like riggedy rekt son :'D

Business with her? That statement caught her attention as she cocked her head to the side. What would the Defender need with her?
The bigger, much more muscular, stallion stood before her and she looked so small and fragile compared to him. With these thoughts rolling through her mind, she let out a huff of air without even realizing she did it as she racked her brain with all sorts of thoughts.
"Okay," Is all she could manage to get out as she was to preoccupied with the fact that one of the Trinity was asking for her help.
Now, it wasn't that she didnt want to help him. She'd be crazy if she said no, for who would turn down a simple request for help. But on a day to day basis, she was never had been requested by someone from the Trinity and it left her absolutely flustered.

But then again, perhaps this was a mistake in the making. Thaumas felt himself on a sort of precipitous ledge as she gave her taciturn reply and made no move further. He cast a narrowing gaze at the Lady Councillor as the pause in their conversation stretched on, pregnant with a fast-growing silence. And..?It was this one, wasn't it, who had the most appropriate jurisdiction over the areas he needed information from? Or perhaps her silence was an indicator that the line of questioning to which he'd intended to subject her was for naught; her lack of suspicion might mean his Guardians' reports were unfounded. He had to be very careful now, for if this was indeed the case then the last thing he wanted to do was plant a dubious seed. She looked a bit bemused perhaps, which surprised him, given her sharpness just a moment ago. He couldn't for the life of him discern her motive, and in the lack of a more forthcoming attitude, he was disinclined to try. One ear flicked out to the side and back for a moment. "After you, madam," he said, standing politely back a pace so that she could enter her own office first. words: 204 tags: kawaiideadpool notes: we can assume he'll follow her in if she goes, no worries there <3

Raising her eyebrow, she looked him up and down one more time as he made a motion for her to head into her office. Scoffing to herself, she opened the large door to her small little chamber, flicking her tail like an annoyed feline would do.
Her chamber was a mess. The feminine mare rarely had any time to clean her office and make it look all neat and tidy for she was never home to do such. Trinkets of different shapes and sizes rested on some of the many shelves she had and after a well they had collected a considerable amount of dust. Nymph rarely ever had visitors to this office since by the time she got home she was always in such sour mood that many couldn't even get a step inside her chambers.
Pausing, she glanced over her shoulder at the muscular equine before pausing in the center of her chamber. Glancing him up and down once more, "Is there something in particular you need of me?" She questioned him, her voice was that of someone who could be less amused, but there was a slight hint of wonderment to it as she continued to rack her brain over the fact he was standing there.
She had one idea though. Many knew her as a woman you could get secrets from. Any sort of information you needed, you could get it from her. She was like a queen bee; she knew all the gossip, all the dirt, anything and everything you could know about someone... She knew it.

"Perhaps," replied the Defender, closing the door behind him. What was the best way to go about introducing such a sensitive topic when he wasn't even sure if introducing it was a good idea at all? If he was wrong, and the information leaked (however false), then it could have serious implications for the public perception of his enforcement officers (and for the same perception of his own office). He had no reason not to trust Nymph's confidence, but experience had taught him all too well how even the most well-meaning confidant can let slip information to catastrophic consequence. He took a fleeting glance around the room and immediately decided that, in a state of such disarray, the occupant of such a room could have few scruples about his inclination to borrow the use of the paper, quill, and ink he spied amongst the myriad of other affects on the desk. He helped himself to such. Clearing a space on the desk's surface, he laid down a sheet of paper, uncapped the inkwell, dipped the quill, and began to draw. "I am told," he said as he sketched a rough map of Aquore from memory, "that you are the Councillor presiding over much of this area." He indicated the south-western regions, loosely including the Isles of the Dead. Thaumas lifted his gaze and paused his sketching, meeting the Lady Councillor's eyes. "Is my information correct thus far?" words: 237 tags: kawaiideadpool notes: i hope you don't mind a bit of a dialogue rp! :D

Walking over to watch him scribble down some writing, she leaned over her desk as her bright blue eyes studied the map and where he had circled, obviously trying to draw her attention to that spot. She suppressed a laugh, her eyes landing on where he included the Isles of the Dead, before forcing her laugh to come out as a snort as she looked over to the stallion, an amused expression washed across her features as she nodded her head.
"I see. Then my suspension were correct," She said, her voice carried throughout the room, "I would guess you are having some issues with the locals down there. By Cascade, they are such an awful bunch," she rolled her eyes as she spoke, "Although they do know how to get around the laws." She said, now mostly just talking to herself as she looked over to the bigger equine, her eyes darting around his features before she let out a huff of air, blowing her curled bangs out from her face.
She chewed on her bottom lip in thought, "And after saying all of this I'm amusing you didn't come her for nothing. I am the one who is, ahem, in charge of that lovely area."

It was the most he'd heard her speak by a wide margin, and the mere quantity of her words set him slightly more at ease. The lines of communication are fucking open now, thank the Stars.Still, it was obvious to him that the Councillor did not even begin to grasp the seriousness of the situation. It annoyed him. He couldn't half blame her, really; he'd purposefully given her nothing to go on except the fact that she'd been singled out by the Defender himself for some special purpose. He forced himself to remember that he was woefully unfamiliar with the inner workings of the other branches of Talori government. His previous interactions with Council members had led him to believe that they were a higher-learned sort, the kind of horse an exceptional Cleric or Guardian might aspire to be -- but perhaps he held them as a whole in too high regard. Indeed, his oft unreachable standards were a sore point throughout Thaumas's lifetime of efforts to interact with his fellow citizens. "Normally they are of little consequence to me," said Thaumas, turning back to his map. "But from these areas" -- he scratched a few sharp, slanting X-marks throughout the region -- "I've had especially troubling reports of late. Of course, there may be no connection between the incidents at all, but..." And this was where he absolutely had to show at least another card in his hand. There was no way around the matter. Still, his eyes flicked once in the direction of the door, as if checking to see that it hadn't opened itself to their confidence to spite him. It had not, and so he asked the question of the day. "What have you heard about a new kingpin among the Rogues?" words: 297 tags: kawaiideadpool notes: so i have an idea in mind, and i was thinking it might be neat to like, whether you decide she's heard about it or not, have another thread down the line where she's gathered a loose picture of what's actually going on and presents it to him, if you're interested? that way we keep it going a bit longer than just one thread. but if you'd rather not i'm totally cool with that, too. :D

Nymph's interest perked at the notation that the roustabout bunch was trying to find another kingpin. Of course she had heard rumors of it as well, a few of the citizens of Aqoure had brought the matter up to her, hoping that she wold be able to spread the information they gave her up to some of the higher ups.
But mostly the people who reported it were worried mother's who wanted to make sure that nothing would put their kids in danger. And the Councilor had heard some stallions boast about how they wanted to be the ones that take down the rising Kingpin. But other than that, she had nothing to tell him.
Letting out a sigh, "Defender, all I have heard is rumors, and worried concerns," She said, her voice low and now a little more cautious of what all she told him. "There have been many attempts of Kingpins before but they all died down after a while... But from what I've gathered it doesn't seem like this one is going away."
She finished her statement, thinking of how she probably let him down, and she wished she could give him a little but more information than what she had managed to give him.
{That sounds like a fine idea to me. Nymph could do some snooping around and find him some information on anything he needs.}

Her implicit confirmation of his fears settled into his breast like a sinking stone, tied to his heart and pulling the organ down with impossible weight. Just my fucking luck."I see," he said darkly, staring at his map with a heavily furrowed brow. "Then it may not surprise you when I disclose that the incidents marked here denote the takings of young mares and fillies, and that the piecemeal evidence I have been able to compile seems to point towards a slaver." It disgusted him to even think about the myriad of unpleasant possibilities which might arise from such a nefarious plot, and until now he'd hoped that it was just a sort of wild 'spree' among the young folk as what happened every few years, but it seemed as though this may not be the case. In any regard, if there was a threat of any sort -- within or without his beloved Aquore -- endangering the lives of their beautiful, bright Talori maidens, Thaumas knew that it was a threat he could never allow to manifest. Thaumas looked Nymph square in her bright blue eyes. "What can you learn for me, and how much time do you require?" words: 201 tags: kawaiideadpool notes: perfect! whether or not it turns out to be a real threat can be up to you. (though maybe with the chapter approaching, it should maybe just be rumors / mistaken reports? i don't want us to get too overwhelmed.) :D

The painted mare let out a chuckle before quickly closing her mouth, not wanting to come across as if she didn't care. Smirking over at the Defender, "What ever information you need, I can get it. Just point me in the right direction and I'll have it covered," She smirked bigger at him as she felt a little confident about her methods of getting information.
The Lady Councilor was telling the truth that she could get any information that he needed. She had those connections inter-worked within the most repulsive regions of Aqoure, and she found herself slightly confused and worried why she hadn't heard anything about the Kingpin yet, but she pushed those thoughts out of her mind as she let out a strained cough. She twitched her tail in thought as she debated on how much time she needed to get the Defender the information he needed and that was when she laughed to herself once again.
"I can have it to you in a couple of days, a week at the most," She said, finding her skills rather funny at the moment as she stared up at the bigger equine, a soft smirk still paying on her lips as she debated the best ways to get the info that she needed.
{That sounds fine to me. Maybe it could be just some kids making stories up or something like that. Unless you want there to be a real king pin?}

"Please aim for sooner rather than later, Councillor," replied the Defender with a sharp nod to her. His words were punctuated by a low growl from his belly. Lunch.He'd almost forgotten, in the odd atmosphere Nymph seemed to cultivate, that he hadn't eaten anything yet and was decidedly hungry enough to break for mealtime. Already he could envision the food he wanted; it was perhaps his favorite part about living in such high status among his people, that he had ready access to the palace chefs, who were bar none the best in Aquore. Thaumas wasn't the type to take to luxury so easily, but when it came to his food... well, that was a moral battle he was still fighting. With one fluid motion Thaumas capped the inkwell and let the quill fall into place beside it. He rolled his drawn map into a tight cylinder, intending to take it with him. "I won't leave this with you," he explained as he made his way to the door. "For the present, they are merely rumors and nothing more. If there is any truth to it, I trust our citizens will guide your investigation better than I ever could. Good day, madam." words: 203 tags: kawaiideadpool notes: no no, that's perfect! so we can take a bit of a break and then return to this plot in a little while? :D

Feeling herself laughed at him as his stomach rumbling as he hurried off to go get himself something to eat. She watched as he took the map he had created, stating how he couldn't leave it with her like she was going to plot something against him if he left it with her. "Good day, Defender," She said, still thinking over all the things that had been said not to long ago.
Here she was, in charge of finding out whether or not these rumors were true or not, and if there really was a kingpin. Nymph didn't doubt for a moment that she wouldn't be able to find out who or what it was, she had no problems finding that out. But what if she let him down? What if the information she got for him wasn't sufficient enough and it lead to just more confusion between the two? What if it was something worse? What if there really was a kingpin terrorizing the citizens of Aqoure?
All of these different thoughts rushed through her head as she watched the Defender leave her chambers in search of something to eat. Hearing her door close with a simple 'thud', she too began to think of lunch.

Sliced bread, buttered and grilled. Sliced bean curd, spiced hot and savory, grilled. A high stack of lettuce bright green and juicy. Two slices of ripe, fragrant tomato. A few strings of red onion, to add even more bite. A thick cream sauce, turned coral-pink with a blend of garlic, paprika, cayenne, salt, and pepper.
Heaven.Some minutes later, in the officers' mess of the palace's military wing, Thaumas looked for all the world like the sandwich on his plate was the only thing he'd ever love again, so ardently was he attacking it. But behind those hungry eyes, a storm was brewing. The Councillors' jobs were odd ones, but jobs which nonetheless afforded them a nuanced understanding of Talori citizens at large which simply couldn't be garnered by a Guardian or a Cleric alone. Thaumas was confident that such a position lent itself well to learning what may otherwise never be disclosed, and so in this way he was fairly satisfied with his meeting with the Lady Councillor this morning. But still... She knew of the trouble.Thaumas could only hope that both their reports were mistaken, or else Aquore would feel the swells of a roiling sea within their own ranks before long. He bit into Heaven with a vengeance. words: 212 tags: kawaiideadpool notes: yes that sounds perfect! i also vote that when we start back up we like, pretend it's still before the chapter maybe :'D depending on how that all ends. just to avoid mingling the plots?
