MALIK "I feel the earth beneath my feet and the wind in my hair. Oh, it's a great big world to see out there!"
___________________________________________________________ By now the sun had reached its zenith in the sky, bathing the entirety of Alya's land in a rich orange glow. Though the sun glared and sometimes stung at his eyes, the striped hippocampus colt had never felt fazed enough to put his adventures to rest. Plenty of rocks slipped and slid out of his telekinetic grasp, which he was still trying to get proper control of. They'd tumble into the sand, much to his dismay, forcing him to stop in his footing and try to pick them up again.
His telekinesis was always so stubborn to comply to him! It would be a while before he could get it to bend to his will. Someone had suggested to him that he find something to carry them in, but there were no saddlebags laying around in the desert! And nor had anyone divided their attention to him enough to make one for him!
"Aagh, I'll get em' later." Malik mumbled to himself as a few more rocks tumbled from mental embrace. They'd roll through the sand, and he'd have no choice but to take the ones he could cling onto and make toward his family's home. Or, his home, in Malik's case.
No, the colt had no other place he called his home, anyways. This was where he was born, and this was the only place he knew! Unlike the boy's parents, Malik felt content to be greeted with red sand and curious pegasi every so often. But this morning the camp was mostly empty, aside from one familiar figure, standing somewhere toward the southwest.
His father. The striped youth's large ears swiveled forward with interest. Rycaron, Miss Odette and his mother were not outside. Perhaps they were all in the tent or in the city. That meant they weren't there to keep his father occupied! Malik's glossy tail raised just slightly in glee.
The poor Emperor, he would be greeted by the sound of rocks dropping toward the ground in a heap beside them, as Malik tossed them onto a small stand. The colt was standing beside him now. The prince's ears were perked attentively and his snout possessed a large smile, orange eyes shining up at the warlander. "Whatcha' doin, dad?"

"Whatcha' doin, dad?"
The innocent voice of the emperor's youngest son drew him from his thoughts. Looking down at the tiny figure that bounded gleefully at his side, Hawkeye let out a small sigh, smiling slightly as he bent his head down to ruffle the colt's scruffy forelock.
"I was thinking." He said softly, a hint of sadness coloring his words as he spoke. "There has been much on my mind as of late...Thoughts of our homeland plague my mind..." He paused, looking down at the tiny, inquisitive colt. "But it's nothing to worry yourself over." He said, smiling a bit. As serious as the sitaution in Aquore was, he didn't feel it was a burden Malik should have to bear, at least not at the moment.
"Now what are you doing out here alone anyway?" Hawkeye raised an eyebrow at his son. "Where are your mother and sister? Do they know your out here?" He asked, looking around at the nearby vacant tents.Amara was still recovering from the birth, and the last thing Hawke wanted was to worry her.

MALIK "I feel the earth beneath my feet and the wind in my hair. Oh, it's a great big world to see out there!"

"Oh. I didn't know that," The poor child, he was so new to the world and its troubles that he was still too naive to realize the state of his homeland, or even wonder how bad it was. Half the time, all the striped youth could do was try and recall just what the definition of "plaguing" was. One of his large ears swiveled back in thought, before their perked forwards again in understanding.
Malik shook his head, trying to sort out his now disheveled forelock again. "I thought I'd go searching for something to bring back again. Mum's inside with Pearlie again." The colt replied, his orange gaze wandering to the red sand under his hooves. He'd sit himself down and start sketching into it. "I'm told there's a blue stone called 'turtles' out there. I wanted to go and find it."
Malik, that's turquoise.
Although he frequently questioned just why so many of his caretakers seemed to stare into space for so long, as if pondering something, the child was--at the moment--oblivious of the turmoil stirring in his families' bellies. The colt reared up on his backlegs, placing his forelegs up on his father's shoulder curiously. "Hey, dad, so does our homeland look like? Why's it called 'our' homeland if I wasn' born there?"

"Oh. I didn't know that," Hawke watched as the child's face twisted slightly in thought as he tried to understand what the older horse was saying. The emperor smiled slightly as Malik's ears flicked forward, as if he'd finally realized what his father was saying.
"I thought I'd go searching for something to bring back again. Mum's inside with Pearlie again. I'm told there's a blue stone called 'turtles' out there. I wanted to go and find it." Hawke smiled slightly. Malik had an adventurous soul, and the older horse could see him becoming a great Emmissary one day. "How about you stay close for now, and look for the truquoise later. Your mother would be worried if you ran off alone, and I can't stray too far from camp right now." He winked at the colt, breifly glancing back to the tent where Amara was apparently resting with their young daughter.
"Hey, dad, so what does our homeland look like? Why's it called 'our' homeland if I wasn' born there?" The bay horse paused as he stared down at his wide eyed son. So full of innocence and curiosity. Sighing heavily, he opened his mouth to speak. "Aquore is a beautiful country.... Full of large, shady, green plants, all manner of flowers, and water as far as the eye can see. Beautiful structures are scattered across the landscape, and " He smiled gently at the small foal. "Rain falls frequently, and life is abundant..."
He paused for a moment, contemplating how to continue. "At least it was..." His voice was sad as he spoke, reaching down to ruffle the colt's forelock. "We call it our homeland because it's where we come from, where our home is, where the rest of our family is. I grew up there, as did your mother, Odette, and Sage Rycaron. Your other sisters, brothers, aunts and uncles are still there..." Hawkeye paused again, biting the inside of his cheek. "We came here by sea to seek the aid of the Serorans, in hopes that they will help us reclaim our home."
