Library in Paradise Characters: @hubahuba02's Dionysus and BlueUnicornJ13 's Little Bird Year 1700
Little Bird | Vagabond | Vindicator
She trekked through the seemingly endless caverns and tunnels with the horse that she had hired as a guide. The underground world of Breim was no place to wander around without a knowledgeable horse to take you where you were going, and she was not about to get lost going to Diony's home. It felt like it had been much too long since she had seen him and getting lost was the last thing she wished to do. She had the perfect gift tucked in the bag around her shoulder, or at least, she hoped that Dio would enjoy it. It had taken her hours to pick it out from the different choices she had had at the time (not that her sometimes indecisive thinking helped with that at all). Her mind turned to focus on the world around her, studying the beauty of the tunnels. The glowing crystals on the walls cast an eerie light on their surroundings, and occasionally they came across caverns of glowworms or beautiful, cascading waterfalls that fell into shimmering pools of water. Little Bird had to admit that if it weren't for the confining feeling of having to have her wings so close to her body, she could see herself living here in the undergrounds of Sirith.
When she arrived in Nariah, her smile grew wide at the sight before her. The city was built up the sides of the rocky walls of the cavernous place. The buildings were stacking close together with little room to walk in between them, and it seemed like there were stairs that went for miles to get to the top. Little Bird took to the sky, spreading her crimson wings and letting the cool air sweep underneath her feathers as she lifted herself into the air. It wasn't long before she reached the front door of Diony's home, and she landed a short distance away from it with a gentle thud as her hooves hit the cobblestone. 'Hopefully, he doesn't already have this one. That would be horrible if I got him another copy of the same thing.' She thought worriedly as she slowly trotted to the door. It was already slightly ajar, and with nervousness tugging at her heart, the roan mare pushed open the door a little more with her muzzle. Her eyes widened in fear at the sight before her. Boxes... and more boxes sat around the house, and most of Diony's things were packed away or strewn about. Little Bird felt her heart race in her chest as her mind filled with the worst possible situations that might have happened. What if he went exploring in the tunnels and got lost? What if he fell into some cavern and no one could find him? Had he simply vanished into thin air, or had something gone horribly wrong?
With a worried expression, Little Bird looked around the house, poking her head around each corner to see if there were any signs that he had been there recently. "Diony?" She called out in a quiet tone and took a deep breath to try to calm herself down, but she could already feel tears burn in her eyes as they threatened to stream down her face.

Diony took a heavy sigh. Moving away from Mareia was emotionally hard, but he'd now reached the physically hard part of moving. He had to climb the steps to his home and fill a cart with boxes before trekking further up to his new residence. It was nearer to the palace, which helped for his work, but it made for a costly house. He saved for many years to buy this home, always worrying when Potential buyers walked in it's doors. It was a beautiful building, removed from the business of the markets and schools, but you could still hear the city through the walls. Diony was returning to his old home next to his mother to gather the last of his things. He arrived to his old home to see the door was pushed open. Surely he'd shut it? Either way, there were only boxes of paper and other small things that held value, but not as much as his books or the gifts from his students. His books were already in his new home. From inside the door he could a faint calling of his name and steps.
"Diony?" a soft voice called from the back. It was heavy with worry and rough with tears. Mareia knew he was just up the street. . . Who was-
Birdie. I knew i forgot to tell her. Diony thought, feeling a pang of hatred for not telling his love where he had gone. As he came around the corner he found her looking around, bag across her shoulders, and shuffling her feet, trying to find a sign of where he had gone. When he saw her face, he nearly fell to tears, She'd been crying. Oh my little bird, how could I have done this to you? He thought before approaching her and hugging her.
"My birdie, please do not cry. I'm here, I'm okay. Please, my love, don't fret, I'm here." He said in attempt to comfort her."Please, my love, truly, I am fine!" he added as he bent down to look into her eyes. His beautiful Birdie was so truly upset, and that threw a spear to his heart.

Little Bird | Vagabond | Vindicator
She bit her lip nervously as she continued wandering the halls and the empty rooms of his home, seeing no signs that anyone was there with her. Her heart clenched anxiously at the thought that something might have happened to him or he was out there somewhere and needed her help. Little Bird felt her russet feathers ruffle at the different emotions that flooded through her head and the tears that started to fall down her face. If anything had happened to Diony... she wasn't quite sure what she would do with herself. He was the only horse that she had in her life that she could truly be herself around, and now with her father's death, he was really the only horse in her life at all that she truly cared about and loved.
Her head snapped up when she heard the soft sound of hoofsteps behind her, and Little Bird turned her head to see the grullo stallion she had been looking for, a pained expression making creases on his face. She choked back a little sob of joy at the sight of him and quickly wrapped herself in his hug. "Oh gods, Dio. I was so worried! All of your stuff was gone, and the door was open. I thought something terrible had happened!" She said, sighing heavily in relief that nothing had actually happened to him.
Her tears slowly dried as he lifted his head to look down at her face with his kind, lavender eyes that always seemed to make her heart melt. A small smile returned to her face, pulling up the corners of her lips. "I'm so glad that you're okay, dear. I can't even described how relieved I am that you're here and not stuck or hurt somewhere." She admitted, lifting her nose up to touch his. Little Bird turned her brown eyes towards his face affectionately, knowing that something was bothering him even without having to ask. Taking a deep breath, the roan mare relinquished her own worried before focusing on his. "What's going on, Dio? Where is all of your stuff, your books? Did something happen?" She asked in a concerned tone, studying her love's face carefully for any signs that something was wrong. It pained her to see him so troubled, though it might be partly her fault for being caught crying in his nearly empty house.

Diony | Breim | Royal Tutor
Diony inspected Little Bird thoroughly, every inch was just as it always was, perfect. As she spoke to him he lifted his muzzle to wipe away tears off her cheek. Diony's heart was heavy with guilt. I should have told her. All of this could have been avoided. I made her cry, she thought she lost me, He criticized of himself. When she said she was worried he was stuck somewhere, he did give a weak smile. There was her beautiful humor, but the mood of the room was still heavy.
"What's going on, Dio? Where is all of your stuff, your books? Did something happen?" Birdie asked him, eyes locked with his.
With a sigh, Diony looked away, "You know my mind better than anyone, my love. I was just so excited, and I always meant to tell you, but I never did, and I'm so sorry, truly, if i could go back, I would have scavenged the lands of Hireath to tell you, but- I'm babbling again aren't I?" he blurted with a chuckle. "Birdie, I told you about that old house north of here- the one nearer the palace? Well, I finally did it! I bought it! Oh I'm so excited! It's even more beautiful than it looks, my birdie! And there is even a spare room for you, if you like-" he spouted, giddy like a child, before tilting his head and adding, "Or you can just stay with me as always."
Diony studied her face for a reaction, his was certainly ecstatic, and he quietly prayed that Birdie would agree. They could be together in peace, no fear or Mareia's hateful glares. Diony truly loves his mother, and Birdie equally so, but for the two to not love each other as he loves them made him horribly sad. After the last departure, Mareia told him to end it. That was the last straw for Diony, he was still month away from truly affording the house, but he couldn't bare to be so close to someone who hated his love. Diony still loved his mother, and surely visit her regardless, and Birdie was ignorant of that conversation, but he had to stop her living through him.
He shook the negativity from his mind, not wanting to weigh the mood more. "Could you help me gather the last of the boxes? Then we can go to My new home and catch up." He asked, motioning to the mess.
Then he realized how much he missed her, no doubt it was showing on his face.

Little Bird | Vagabond | Vindicator
She could see the guilt practically plastered on his face, and she silently cursed herself for being so quick to shed those tears. 'If father could see me like this, he would kick my butt all the way back to training 101.' But the Vindicator couldn't help herself it seemed. All these years of holding back emotions and feelings in an attempt to be a tough, strong member of the Vindicators had left her rather vulnerable when it came to seeing someone that she trusted, and it certainly didn't help the feelings that she felt toward him, especially in these moments when they reunited for the first time in weeks. That was what she truly hated about having to leave him to go on raids or missions, not having him by her side or being there for him when he might need her. Part of her wanted to leave her occupation in order to stay with him, but the other part of her couldn't see herself simply quitting at something that she had worked so hard for. Was it too hard to ask for both her job and her love?
Her ears perked forward when he began to speak, his familiar voice soothing her. Little Bird tried to piece together what he was saying to her, but through the growing excitement in his tone, Diony had started talking rather quickly before he caught himself. She giggled softly and nodded her head, causing a few of her loose curls to fall into her face. "Just a little bit, Dio, but I love your babbling." The roan mare admitted with a coy smirk before touching his cheek reassuringly. "And it's alright, dear. You don't have to search too hard for me whenever something happens. Granted, this was a pretty big thing, but I'll always find you no matter where you've gone." Little Bird promised, hoping that might relieve some of the tension in the room. As he continued with his story, she listened carefully, nodding her head occasionally in response to what he was telling her. At his childlike giddiness, Bird couldn't help but grin excitedly. "Really? That's amazing, Dio. You've been talking about that house for ages!" She said, hugging him tightly in congratulations.
'And there is even a spare room for you, if you like- Or you can just stay with me as always.'
Little Bird gave him a playful smile. "Trying to get rid of me, Mr. Baudin?" She teased, giggling. "That's very nice, Dio, and I appreciate it. I do enjoy spending my time with you while I'm in town though, but maybe I'll take you up on that offer... especially if I stay around a little longer." Bird said with a soft smile. Maybe if she stayed in the city for longer periods she would want her own room and staying longer sounded pretty nice to her. She could tell how much he had missed her from the look on his face and the way his eyes lingered on her, and she was sure that it was evident that she had missed him as well. Reaching up to touch her muzzle against his again, it was as if she couldn't get enough of him, which couldn't be more true.
"Sure, I can help you get the last of these, and then when we get to your new home, I can give you your gift." She said and pointed to the bag around her shoulders as she picked up a small stack of boxes. What she didn't notice was any sign that he would be making this sudden move for anyone more than himself and his own happiness. She was oblivious to his mother's actions, though Bird was smart enough to catch the drift that his mother wasn't exactly a huge fan of her.

"A gift?" Diony asked in childish giddiness. Though in all honesty, the stallion's heart was still racing from Birdie's comment earlier. She might stay longer? Does she want tosettle down with me? Surely not in the way i think- shes too free spirited for that, and she'll never ask me to travel with her. . . Oh my Birdie, what ever will we do? Diony thought hastily as they loaded the cart with the last few boxes. His home was now empty. No longer his, in fact, it already had its first renters in line. They move in tomorrow. A driven stallion and his wife. . . Wife Diony thought with a side wards glance to Little Bird. One day, that'd what'd she be, but not now. They're still young- well. . . Never mind that, We're drawing near.
They were now in front of a Large building, slightly inset to the cave walls, but nevertheless magnificent. There were stairs up to it's doors and dividing them was a large marble platform, a place for a statue of sorts, but Diony had yet to think of what to commission there. The building itself seemed somewhat out of place with the busy streets of Nariah, too old to be in someplace so fast, but Diony loved it. he walked up the stairs, leaving the car on the road, and opened the doors before returning for what boxes he could carry. He walked through the door and invited his love in. The first room was large with a table in the center. The walls were lined with shelves- already half full with the stallion's copious amounts of books. The shelves were as tall as the walls and over them was a balcony with two doors visible from the foyer. Through the right was Diony's room, and Left was an empty room wit the bed. Through the door under the Balcony were more rooms, but they could explore later.
Diony waited until the cart was empty and put away and each box was in the home before asking, "So. . . about this gift?"

Little Bird | Vagabond | Vindicator
Little Bird couldn't contain a grin at Dio's excited questioning. She was sure that he hadn't been expecting anything probably, but how could she not take the chance to get him something? There was something about his expression that seemed to be pondering on something else though. Perhaps it was the fact that she had mentioned maybe staying longer than her usual stays. She had to admit that it sounded nice: sticking around and being with him. Something made her hesitate though. She couldn't just abandon her father's teachings just yet. She wanted to do something that would make him proud even if he wasn't around to see it. 'Maybe one more big job... then maybe I can settle down. I mean I'm nearly 30 years old and haven't even tried to have foals or get married yet. It might be time to try something different... go down a new path in life.' Bird thought as she gathered boxes and loaded them on a cart outside.
"Of course, I got you something. Dio, I've known you since I was like 16 years old, and I know when your birthday is." She said playfully, flicking her russet tail around her legs. "Plus, I guess now it's a housewarming gift too." Little Bird grinned and came to a stop beside him now that all of the boxes were loaded onto the cart, ready to be transported to his new home.
She followed him up the cobblestone streets until they reached their destination. It was a beautiful building that was set slightly into the rock wall behind it, but she walked up the stairs in awe of the large house. It was an amazing structure from what she had seen so far, and it was quite a bit bigger than his previous home, which brought a smile to her face that Dio was doing so well that he could finally afford the house of his dreams.
"It's incredible." Little Bird murmured softly as she walked through the front doors to see the first room that held a large table in the center along with walls of shelves where Diony had already placed many of his precious books. The roan mare turned her head to look up at the high shelves and the beautiful decor of the room. Each time she came in with more and more boxes, she couldn't get over how amazing this place was. When they were finally done bringing in the rest of his belongings, Little Bird cracked a smile at Dio's excited prying at the gift in the bag around her shoulders. "Well, I hope it's something that you'll like or don't already have. I was visiting this little shop in Onea, and I couldn't help but think of you when I saw some of the things that they had." She admitted in an almost sheepish tone, and if horses were capable of doing so, a blush would have probably been on her cheeks. Taking a deep breath to calm her nerves over him liking it or not, Bird opened up the bag, taking of the item that was in it.
It was a book with beautiful embroidery on the cover that added to its vintage good-looks. Little Bird grinned sheepishly, biting her lip a little as her warm, brown eyes studied his face for any sort of reaction. "I wasn't sure if you had this one or not yet, but it looked like something you'd like. It's got hand-painted pictures and diagrams of every place you can imagine in Hireath along with different plants and animals that live there. There's even a pretty good chapter on different places in Aquore despite the fact those Talorians can be rather secretive about their land." Little Bird joked and giggled softly. "Happy Birthday, love. I've enjoyed every second that we've spent together, and I hope that we'll have many more years to come."
