Aubrey | War-Forged | Bloody Flank Merchant
It had been close to a week since she jump from the cliff with her torn wings to get away from her abusive husband... ex-husband. She had to keep reminding herself that. She was no longer under his ruling hoof, and she would no longer feel the wrath of his beatings. Aubrey hadn't known if she would survive the jump; after all, her wings had been purposely torn and ripped for years to keep her from flying away, but she knew that death would have been better than any ending with him in it. If the fall didn't kill her, he eventually would. Her wings had kept her from falling too harshly, but thankfully, there had been a fresh blanket of snow to further soften her fall. Aubrey looked up to where she had jumped hundreds of feet above her head, and while her legs trembled and her heart raced in her chest, a smile fell across her face. She was free.
Aubrey had ran for hours until she was satisfied that no one was chasing after her. Of course, her rustic prosthetic limb kept her from sprinting quite as fast and elegantly as other horses, but it hadn't been long before she found herself in unknown territory. Very strange, very cold, unknown territory. The spotted mare spent days trekking through the icy tundra she slowly walked further and further into as she hoped to run into someone. Her leathery wings felt frozen solid and rigid against her body, and the icy chill seemed to travel all the way to her bones. It became obvious that there was no one out in this frozen wilderness. Not even the hardened citizens of Onea would be crazy enough to travel this far, and as this realization hit her, Aubrey began to lose hope of survival. She had survived jumping from a cliff, and she had thought she had made it home free, but now, she was going to freeze to death out here. Her body warmth had long since left her, and she felt her eyelids grow heavy. Without even noticing it, the spotted mare fell onto the frozen ground. Her body began to shut down, and when she was moments from closing her eyes forever, she saw hooves coming toward her. Aubrey was beyond caring what happened to her or who the hooves belonged to. Her mind was a single blur that could only think of how cold and tired she was. She didn't feel whoever it was that had found her lift her up onto someone's shoulders. The only thing she felt was her eyes slowly close.
Days spent sleeping and having her wounds being tended to by Medics finally ended when Aubrey opened her eyes. The last thing that she remembered was the frozen tundra and laying on the ground, but as her eyes adjusted to the bright light, she saw that she was in a makeshift shelter. The wood that made up the walls were mismatched and patched with more oddly shaped pieces of wood, and the room she was in was full of beds. She tried to lift her head but was greeted by a wave of nausea that made her lay back down. Where was she? How had she gotten here? Her pink eyes looked over her body, seeing the bandages that seemed as frequent and plentiful as her spots. Obviously she was somewhere that had someone who knew something about medicine and that someone was nice enough not to just let her freeze to death. Maybe whoever it was was friendly, or maybe her ex-husband had found her out there somehow and had taken her to a Medic to treat her wounds. Aubrey gulped in fear, her eyes scanning for any signs of movement. "H-hello? Is anyone there?" Aubrey called softly, waiting to hear if anyone would respond back.
