1 The tunnels were still covered with darkness when Diony traveled to Argus's shrine, wife and daughter in tow. Diony let Rosario stay up late last night telling stories about her favorite super hero, Lightening Bird, a red mare with red wings who saved every horse in Hireath. ' Wonder where she got the idea' the grullo thought to himself, looking at Little Bird. Diony knew that being quiet was hard on it's own, especially for young fillies with lots of stories to tell, but the father knew his daughter was capable. The vow was made and the three were silence, but on the walk over, Rosario went though PaPa's rules. "1: the less noise you make, the more the wisps will say. 2: No talking unless its VERY important! And 3: PaPa and Mommy love me very much and need me to stay close!" he could hear the white filly say to herself. She was so determined to be good for him. The wisps appeared as the Priest's bell echoed for the last time. This was Diony's favorite holiday ever since he was a colt. His favorite activity was to find a new place and a new book and read. It was Birdie's first Day of the Wisps and he was so excited to share it with her, and while it may be Rosie's 3rd or 4th, the filly still found awe in every wisp she saw, looking over to call Diony to it but quickly realizing she needed to be quiet. The new father was excited. He was sharing his most cherished holidays with the two he loved most. His family was whole ant at peace after the fires, which is all he could wish for, aside from seeing his mother. Maybe they would see her spirit among the wisps and maybe Mareia would finally be at peace.

The week leading up to the Day of the Wisps was bittersweet for Amity. Every year since she had moved out of her parents' home to Sterling, they would both come and stay with her for a week before heading back to Nariah after the day of silence. For some reason the little family found solace in spending quiet time together. Words didn't need saying, just knowing you were surrounded by those who love you was more than enough. The week of visiting was great fun as well. Firefly would cook, Lazarus would relay details of his work to Amity to keep her informed, and Azazel would try smoking (always a spectacle and very amusing). But the time of togetherness in that respect was over. Amity's parents had passed during the fires of Nariah not long ago, and Lazarus hasn't been seen since. Amity was completely and utterly alone apart from the company of her familiar, Kili. It was difficult for the little mare for the first month or so, but Argus must have been watching over her for through that time her Blessing strengthened. The thoughts of different equines nearby were her company since she almost completely shut out her friends and rarely left her home, for she was wracked with sorrow and guilt. But today she would make the journey to Argus' largest temple, as her parents would want to. She kept replaying the memories from previous years of this day as she donned her cloak and left her home. Somewhere deep down inside her, she hoped that her parents would visit her today so the loneliness could cease even for just a day. Maybe something good could come out of today that will even help going forward. she thought optimistically. But the nagging thoughts of a loss of a second set of parents didn't fully disappear from her mind, leaving her uneasy. However she kept on a smile as she traveled, claiming she was working hard on a new project when someone asked where she had been. Soon the tunnels enveloped the small mare and owl as they set off toward the temple, they had to get there on time of course so they left quite early.

Little Bird | Breim | Outsider
Little Bird smiled down at her daughter as they readied themselves for the Day of the Wisps: Diony's favorite celebration. She remembered all of the details that he had told her of the ceremony and about how it was performed in utter silence, but of course, he had left out many fine details, despite her poking and prodding, about it in order for her to experience it for herself. This was her first celebration as a member of Breim and her first with her family. It still amazed her to think that she had a family and wasn't always rushing too and from Sirith to risk her life for some cause. She was finally able to be the wife that she so desperately wanted to be for Diony, to be there for him like he had been there for her all of these years and not worry him over whether she would die on the battlefront and never return to him or return battered and bruised to the point that he could hardly look at her without tears forming in his eyes. The gods knew that Little Bird never wanted to do that to him again. Little Bird had to admit that she did enjoy the stories Rosario told of the mysterious hero Lightning Bird who rescued anyone from danger all around Hireath, stemming from all the stories of heroic acts she had told her and the other children that came to the library for schooling.
The strawberry roan pegasus flung on her cloak before walking out the front door after Dionysus and Rosario, trotting to catch up with her fox familiar tucked safely into her cloak's hood. Her mind buzzed with excitement, and her brown eyes wandered across the crowds of equine that had already begun to gather. As they walked, she listened to her daughter carefully recite the rules that Diony had given her, and a bright smile danced across her face as she gave the filly a quick kiss on the cheek. She knew how hard it may be for her to stay silent during the entire ceremony, but she knew that Rosario would certainly try her hardest to please them.
Little Bird stuck close to Diony's side as the Day of the Wisps began. She clamped her mouth shut and her body tensed as she waited for the first of the wisps to appear. As the wisps glimmered into existence, her eyes grew wide in shock and admiration. They were beautiful! The Outsider looked toward her husband with a smile of her face that she hoped spoke of how beautiful and mesmerized she was by her first sacred day with him and their daughter.
Everything was wondrous and amazing until a small feeling began to tug at her heart. It was a sudden uneasiness that seemed to unravel more and more as the moments passed. The wisps still seemed to be behaving as they should (from what she knew at least). What was it that was causing her to sudden feel so... strange?

Leonardo | Driven
Though not too religious, it was a tradition for Leonardo to attend the day of the wisps with his old man. It had started when Leonardo was but a child and continued even after the two of them moved to Sterling. Every year they would travel over to Nariah, staying with friends of his father for a few days before returning. The last few months had been different, as with the fires that wrecked Nariah, extra help had been needed rebuilding the city. Sato, being a city engeneer had offered his help, temporary moving back to his beloved city. Leonardo feeling sorry for the many who lost their homes and more, had soon followed. That hebmight have missed his old man, he of course denied. As it was, they were already in the city for the celebration and they without question attended. It was costum for them to spent the morning together until the bell chimed and then go their seperate ways. Leonardo had choosen a spot to simply stand and look as the wisps appeared.
The wisps had always fascinated him. He had wondered if they were actual spirits or if they were something entirely else. Why did they appear? And if they were spirits, could you tell the difference between different types? He thought that if they were spirits, it was somewhat morbid. He wouldn't want to die only to come back and make a pretty wisp for other horses. He had tried to catch one once when he was younger, for research purposes of course. Sato had been livid, almost yelling until he remembered the vow of silence. Leo hd had to reel himself in in order not to cry out laughing and make the situation worse. He had gotten a stern talking to once the silence was released. Leonardo shivered remembering it. He had soon learned there were things you didn't mess with, though his curiousity prevailed.
As he watched the wisps a feeling of unease crept over him, though he could not pinpoint why? 'Don't be ridiculous,' he told himself. There was nothing to feel uneasy about. 'Nothing so stop.'

aginor you can't watch your own image and look yourself in the eye Silence had never been difficult for Aginor. The heavy expectations of propriety on the entire royal family had been given a particularly sanctimonious twist in the household of his upbringing. His Priestess mother --and the quiet, nervous paranoia that accompanied every waking moment of the truly god-fearing like her--- had kept a home as quiet as a temple.
It suited Aginor and the rest of his family just fine. Every member of the royal family had a role to fill; as far removed from the monarchs as he was, Aginor's only task was to avoid scandal. With closed lips, he'd performed it admirably for all his 38 years.
The Day of the Wisps, like all religious holidays, was accompanied by a certain anxiety for Aginor. A godly man by all accounts, he wore his devotion to the many-eyed Argus in plain view but had never been able to shake his parents' neurotic caution. Watching one of the ghostly lights twinkle by him, he cast a leery stare across the cavern containing the temple. The whole space glittered with drifting wisps, a soft, almost non-sound like gentle sighs filling the air in the absence of voices.
He halted mid-step as he very nearly walked into a wisp, and raised his gaze to the rest of the horses gathered at the temple. Astute eyes found them all with faces drawn, seemingly feeling a similar strangeness. Pinning his ears with unease, he began to wonder if this feeling was more than just his mother's insecurity predictably manifesting in him. 255 words | post 1

Checkpoint 1//
From the temple's edge you can see them, the wisps, as more begin to gather near the gate that lead back into the city. They float and flicker like candle light, murmuring words you cannot understand. Suddenly the wisps begin to move, lining up to form a path that winds it's way down the streets. It almost as if they are trying to tell you something.

Little Bird | Breim | Outsider
Little Bird ignored the rising anxiety that bubbled inside of her and focused on her family. Rosario seemed to be having so much fun watching the wisps as they appeared and whispered in their strange, unrecognizable language. It was as if they were trying to speak to them but simply couldn't quite get the words out. Her brown eyes traveled over to her husband, and a small smile spread across her face at the look of amusement and happiness on his face. She didn't want to worry him, not during something as special as this moment, and especially not when she couldn't talk and reassure him that everything was okay and that nothing was wrong with her. Plus, for all she knew, this was what the Day of the Wisps was supposed to be like: kind of creepy but eerily beautiful at the same time. Maybe she was just feeling so much anxiety because it was the first ceremony she had ever gone to as a wife or as a mother.
The pegasus felt her russet colored feathers ruffle as the sound of the wisps' murmuring filled her ears, growing louder and quieter as the wisps floated and flickered like the light of a candle. A shiver shook her to her core, and her ears flattened slightly against her neck. She couldn't place the sinking feeling in her chest, but it was undoubtedly there, and her Vindicator upbringing had always taught her never to ignore her gut, especially if it was telling you something might be wrong.
Little Bird bit her lip, holding back her urge to gather up her family get the hell out of there, but then, it started. The wisps began to move, gliding eerily above the ground and forming a makeshift path that led down the street as far as she could see. As the wisps began to migrate, Little Bird moved quickly to her daughter's side, sliding a protective wing over the little, white filly to protect her from whatever harm my come her way.
Once the wisps were settled, her eyes slid over the horses around her, recognizing only Leonardo from their work that they had done to help rebuild the city after the fires that had destroyed so much of it, before they rested on Diony. They held a question in them that she couldn't speak aloud, but she knew that Diony would be able to read her just like he always seemed to be able to do. 'What is happening?'

2 As the wisps danced into their realm, Diony watched Little Bird's face. A sort of mystified confusion appeared as she watched the creatures s intensively. He cracked a smaile in place of a chuckle and looked to rosie who was a nose's length away from a wisp, mouth open and eyes wide. She was always so mystified by anything and everything and Diony loved that and wished his daughter could teach him that same wonder. As he watched them, a wisp flashed over his face and pulled his attention. Diony followed it with his head and was entranced by it. Maybe it was Mareia who he so recently lost? Diony was brought from it's trance with a loud and completely audible gasp followed by the begining sound of 'P'. Rosie was about to call to diony before she realized that it was time to be silent. He smiled again and walked over to her. Little bird placed a wing over their daughter and kept her gaze focused just past him. In fact, every horse he could see had their gaze focused past him. Diony looked to Birdie. Her face was full of fear and confusion, asking him with her eyes what was happening. He turned around to see the wisps forming a neat path. One leading to some destination only Argus knew. The stallion walked towards the path but didn't follow it quite yet. It was there a wisp met him, asking in its mess of sounds for Diony to follow. "Come.... Now... Follow.... Come...." it asked him, wearily and echoy. Diony was worried no doubt, but the wisps had never in his 33 years done him harm- save for that one mischievous one that was smaller than the rest that made him break Mareia's picnic basket. The stallion took a deep breath and turned to those around him. He made eye contact with each one, as if calling their names without saying a word. Diony landed on Little Bird. She was frightened, surely, but she trusted him so completely. He tossed his head over his shoulder, asking those who would to follow him. He knew they were scared- who wouldn't be- but he also knew these wisps had secrets to tell and he intended to hear them,

Leonardo | Driven
As the wisps appeared, Leonardo moved closer to them. He made a game of it every year, trying to make out the words the wisps whispered. Of course they were not understandable, but that didn't keep the curious pegasus male from trying. He kept his ears perked, wandering around a bit so he could move between the different wisps. They were not only interesting but beautiful as well. Leonardo found his eyes wandering to the other horses who were enjoying the sight. His eyes landed on horse he knew from reconstruction works. She also helped rebuilt after the fires. Leonardo hoped for everyone those would be over soon so he could return home. Combining working and his research had been hard on him and he often found himself tired. He also recognized one of the maker's of the new generation, Amity. He personally wasn't a huge fan off her work, preffering a clear mind, but had respect for her anyway. He was sure there were some way to apply her work in a more... useful way. Though he supossed it wasn't required of art. Giving a respectful nod to both, he turned his attention back to the wisps.
His curiousity was instantly peaked as the wisps started moving, grouping. In wonder he stared as they seemed to form a path of sorts. Though he had not quite shaken his feeling of unease yet, he felt himself moving forwards steadily, compelled to travel the path these wisps had apperently laid out. He didn't even look at any of the others, attention completely on this new and interesting mystery.

The silence made the journey seem like it took hours for the little mare. No, not the silence. The loneliness. Whenever she made this journey with someone by her side, she didn't feel like this. This was a new, unwelcome feeling. There were not many horses around her to listen to their thoughts, and for some reason the tunnel seemed more hollow than ever. Even with Kili resting quietly on her poll.
However, soon enough she arrived at the Temple of Argus and Wisps popped up and danced around everyone. They were speaking, singing, laughing in their own special language which brought a warmth into Amity's heart. When she looked up from the Wisps she saw some unfamiliar faces and stifled a small sigh. From their thoughts, they were happy. The only face she knew was Leonardo, one of the Driven who was very weary of her craft despite his nod of respect. She automatically gravitated towards him since he was familiar, along with a young family with a child. Their happiness drew her close, she ached to feed off of it. But suddenly, their thoughts changed and she whipped her head around to see what they were thinking about. The Wisps had...formed a line...and spoken to who she could only assume to be the father of the family. He gestured for her to follow, but her hooves were cold. Every single time she had ventured out in the past year, only ruin followed her. But the Wisps couldn't hurt anyone, right? They were good signs and held sacred by all.
Argus, please watch over us. I don't know how much more of this I can take... she thought to herself as she started to follow the family despite the fear she felt within the mother and within herself.

aginor do i have power? The wisps breathed vague summonings all at once, moving in a manner both slow and choreographed. It keyed up Aginor's already hypersensitive awareness, and he flared his nostrils as they seemed to speak. Their motion, bobbing, swaying, guiding, was entrancing. He found himself watching the dance, searching for patterns, reaching for meaning...
The sound of his own shoes on the stone startled him out of his intense focus. Had he started to follow them?
Aginor tore his eyes away with conscious effort, swallowing hard as he looked around at the other pilgrims in the temple. Their eyes were following the formation of lights too, and Aginor felt his curiosity buckle under the growing unease. Wisps, they were told, were messengers of godliness. Holy figures, his mother had said, with the grip of reverence tight around her throat. Gathered in Argus's temple on this holy day, that was easy to believe.
Aginor, however, had heard the sermons. Gods were not always kind.
He turned his attention to the young stallion who seemed particularly enraptured by the wisps. As they lined up, beckoning, the curious fellow meandered away from the group and Aginor took in a sharp breath. Daring not speak, he pursued the wanderer somewhat urgently, golden horseshoes ringing through the cavern. Unsure whether his duty was to the temple or to the people being drawn away from it, Aginor followed, his brow furrowed. 233 words | post 2

3 Diony was entranced by the wisps, but not quite as much as Roasrio was. She'd abandoned all of her fear and was running blindly after the wisps. Diony wanted to call out to her, to bring her back where she was safe, but he couldn't. Instead he nodded to Little bird and picked up his own pace to close the distance between them. Rosie was smiling and trotting, occasionally lifting off the ground to catch the wisp when it flew up just a little to high. Diony was so focused on his daughter that he was not aware of where he was. It wasn't until the wisp Rosie was chasing disappeared entirely that he stopped to see where he was. The filly had lead her group of curious onlookers to the middle district. There were still ruins from the fires here. This was the place where the most damage reeked. Diony's heart ached as he recounted that day the Aodhians destroyed his home. Though he was hurt by his home's downfall, he harbored little ill will compared to others around him. Diony knew these Aodhians, and while he certainly wasn't the fondest of them, he made efforts to welcome them either way. The ruins were eerily quiet. No building here was untouched by flames, they even still reeked of smoke so long after the fires. Diony and the five others were all that were here, too, which was odd. Even the wisps had disappeared. It wasn't until that moment when he realized how truly alone they were that the feeling of utter unease that plagued his entourage stirred within him, too. Diony sent Rosie to Little bird who was a few yards away. Why had the wisps lead them here- to the heart of the damage?

checkpoint 2//
Amidst the stillness, a cry rings out; loud and clear as it hits every corner of Nariah's vast cavern. The wisps that remain seem to go ridged, twitching to an unseen force before turning black and disappearing entirely. For a moment you stand, stunned, between the ashen ruins of the past.
And then it happens. A flash of light strikes the ground, blinding you to the waking earth and stunning all. As it fades and your vision returns, you seen an unclear shadow fading back into view. As your eye's adjust and the world returns to normal, you can see them: the entwined bodies of two equine laying at your hooves. You first wonder if they are hurt until you see what shimmers along their backs and the entangled horns sprouting from their heads. They are kirins.

It was a sudden, dramatic force that had pulled the ancient souls back into existence. In a blinding flash of light their bodies appeared, dropped in the middle of Nariah’s ruins - the place that had seen the most destruction in the massive fire The two appeared entwined by the hooks of their antlers.
Reyes was the first to react.
Bewildered was perhaps the only word to sum up his reaction. This body was foreign to him. A body that had not seen use in nearly a thousand years. Reyes did not know where he was, or even who he was for that matter. His memory was foggy, details were scarce and hardly enough for him to form anything on.
He looked to the onlookers with wide eyes. Instinct told the kirin to move. He did not know these equines, nor did he want to. He had to leave, find somewhere safe to gather his wits. The kirin made a violent jerk of his head and pulled himself from the entanglement of the other. He stumbled and fell down to his knees once more, nearly taking one of the onlookers down with him.
For a moment he stayed still before he then tried to stand. His movements were similar to that of a newborn whose body strength had yet to come to them. His eyes met the onlookers, and in a hoarse voice he spoke.
“Where am I?”

There was a something odd and dramatic about being pulled back into the realm of existence that Keiko would have loved to explore and learn more about if it weren't for the circumstances and her lack of memory of her past. There was a massive, blinding light as she reappeared in the ruins of Nariah, her pink antlers entwined with... well, she wasn't quite sure about that or anything for that matter.
She slowly opened her light blue eyes to find sparkling scales and the confused expression of another equine alarmingly close to her face. She tried to pull away from him, but their entwined antlers kept her from getting very far.
Her mind reeled in confusion and shock as she tried to figure out where she was and what she was doing there, and now, that she thought of it, she wasn't very sure who she was either. Her memories were clouded and jumbled up like someone had stuck them in the blender and given her back the aftermath. The pale mare was jerked back to reality when the other kirin jerked his antlers out of her own, forcing her into a half-standing stance.
She hadn't even noticed the horses that stood around them until then, and her heart hammered fearfully in her chest. Why were they looking at them like that? Her body felt foreign to her as she tried to walk or run! She had to get out of there. She had to get to somewhere safe where she could figure out what was going on and why she couldn't remember anything.
Her scales glistened in the low lighting as she turned to run away only to nearly fall on her face. A grunt of effort escaped her, and she forced herself from her knees back to her hooves just as her fellow kirin spoke. Keiko's tail flicked behind her like an aggravated cat. She wanted to know what was going on, but these horses were strangers with unknown intentions. Her legs wobbled slightly as she put weight on them, and a sigh raked through her lungs. It didn't look like she would have any other choice other than to stay and face these strange equine.

Little Bird | Breim | Outsider
Little Bird nearly called out to her daughter as the little filly went off chasing after the lined up wisps when she remembered the pledge of silence she had taken when she had come to this celebration. She got ready to gallop after her just as Diony got her attention and gave her a strong nod of his head before catching up to their daughter. A small sigh escaped her, not loud enough to be heard by anyone unless they were standing right next to her. Diony was always able to calm her down even the most strenuous circumstances, but her protective, warrior soul couldn't help but worry about these strange events and what kind of dangers may arise at the end of this path.
The faint glowing of the wisps led them into the middle district of Nariah where the fires had done the most damage. The scent of ash and smoke still remained in the air, and her hooves churned up the black, dusty remains of the buildings that still sat crumbled around them. Her mind went back to the day that she had returned to Breim to retire from her career as a Vindicator and be the mother and wife her family deserved. She remembered the horror and panic in the streets as the fire burned down home and destroyed families, and she remembered her own terror and fear that Diony and Rosie had been some of the disaster's victims.
That was why Little Bird's gaze flicked protectively over Diony and Rosie as they walked a few paces away from her. The distance was short enough that she could make it to their side at a moment's notice, but that didn't keep her from gradually inching closer and closer to them the further they went into the ruins.
Then suddenly, the wisps were gone. The pegasus mare looked around them, checking to see if they had traveled to another place or made a new path for them to travel, but as she searched, her eyes were blinded by a sudden light. She shielded her eyes with one of her wings and threw the other over her daughter who had returned to her side. As the light subsided, the form of two equines laying on the ground became more visible. Little Bird's eyes squinted, trying to figure out if they were hurt and in need of their help. Then she saw the antlers on their heads and the glistening scales on their backs. She had heard the stories of the fire god's people, the kirins, but she had thought that they were only a myth. Now, right before her very eyes, there was not one but two of these mysterious, mythical equine.
The roan mare held her daughter close, keeping her out of harm's way especially as the kirins began to try to untangle themselves and walk on unsteady, newborn-like legs. Little Bird could only look in wonder and shock. Her gaze flickered to her husband with a quizzical expression before her head turned toward the sound of a hoarse, croaking voice. "Where am I?" She opened her mouth to speak but closed it once more. The wisps were gone, but did that mean that the silence was also over? Little Bird looked down at Rosario and back up at the kirins with a look of empathy for the lost equine. "You are in Nariah's middle district... or what's left of it." She started, glancing cautiously at the horses around her. If they wanted to keep this peaceful, they didn't need to scare them any more than they already were, and Little Bird wasn't quite sure what her fellow Breimians would think of these scaly strangers. "Where did you both come from? You weren't here a moment ago."

The wisps were leading the small group away from the temple and down one of the lesser used tunnels, making the little mare anxious despite the calm thoughts surrounding her. After awhile it wasn't the family chasing their daughter that led her on, it was the wisps alone. She had never seen them do this before in her fair amount of years participating in this festival. Kili nestled closely to her mane, ruffling his feathers in a way that read discomfort. And soon Amity saw why. The wisps had led the lot of them right back to the ruins of Nariah! The scent of flames still hung in the air and ash soon covered her hooves as she stepped wearily after the wisps. She prayed they would continue to guide them through this, that thought alone keeping the now shaking creature from turning and bolting back down the tunnel as fast as her legs could carry her away from the painful, too-fresh memories. But suddenly, the wisps turned black, causing her crimson eyes to widen, pupils large in the low light. Then they were gone. She stumbled around, hoping to find someone to stand closer to when just as suddenly, a flash of light crashed from above to the ground right next to Amity. Her once large pupils constricted in a matter of moments but too many too late, for the light still blinded her. As the light faded and Amity blinked her blindness away, the sight before her left her frozen.
There, in the ash, lay two. Two horses with antlers like a deer and scales like a dragon. Kirins. The Maker mare was too horrified to move as the two creatures parted their heads, her eyes wide and thoughts racing through her mind. Not only those of her own, but of those around her. Even of these newcomers, though they sounded...groggy...even in the mind. However, the chimeric mare was still too frightened to move. So frightened in fact that when the male kirin stumbled to his knees one of his antlers raked down her shoulder and leg with enough force to nearly take her down. Kili screeched in alarm, causing a nervous scuffle away from the group. Luckily she stumbled to the side herself and blinked, now bleeding and still staring in horror at the creatures while the mother of the foal spoke. She was less afraid of the kirins themselves, they seemed very week and frail at the moment. She was afraid of what Aodh would do when they got word of kirins in Breim. Would they come back? Would she be recognized? Would another city go up in flames? Her ears stayed firmly backwards in fear as she quietly watched the group, covering the wound with her long mane so she didn't seem weak and wishing the wisps would return to lead her home.
Argus...why now? the little mare pleaded internally.

A horrible white light shone over the ruins. The light was so bright- too bright- but is was gone quicker than it came. Diony shut his eyes tight to clear them of the bleach of light. He was the closest to the explosion of sorts and was completely immersed. When his eyes finally adjusted again, he realized they were no longer alone in this ruin. Two other bodies lay in front of him. "Where am I?" the grey unicorn said to him. Wait... No, not unicorn, Kirin. Diony had heard talk of the reemergence of the race from his ties all around heireath, but never thought they would be encountered here. Not in Sirith. Diony watched the kirin silently. He must have looked confused. The grullo dared not speak, he'd taken a vow, but these newcomers knew nothing of who, where, or when they were. It was his wife who acknowledged them first. "You are in Nariah's middle district... or what's left of it." Little Bird said. Diony nodded, sending a silent plea of forgiveness to Argus before talking. "Yes. Welcome to Nariah," Diony started, voice seeming so loud but it was no louder than usual. Diony looked over to Rosie. A smile cracked his previous expression. The filly's mouth was open. Completely open. Here eyes were gleaming and excited and utterly entranced. She looked to Diony, then to the kirins, then to Diony, then to the kirins. Over and over again, she looked and Diony gave her a nod to join him. She ran over quite quickly, wings lax at her side. The filly stood in front of the Grey kirin with the gold scales. With her small, white wings, Rosario touched the Stallion's face. She was so entranced. Rosie felt the scales on his face but couldn't quite reach his antlers. "I'm Rosario!" the filly declared after dropping her wings from the kirin's face. "Whats your name?"

Leonardo | Driven
Leonardo stilled as the whisps seemed to do, eyes widening they suddenly turned black and all of a sudden disappeared. The next moment a blast knocked him of off his feet, light blinding him. He wondered if this was what dying felt like, the force reminding him of the explosions that had rocked the city of Nariah all those months ago. Not again. But his sight returned and so did his sense of being. He was alive and struggled to his feet. Looking around him he noted that everyone was still present, even more so, that there were two too many horses now to be accounted for. His eyes widened and he did a few steps back as two equines lay in front of them, their appearance immediatly being matched to the mythical descriptions of kirins in his head. It couldn't be... but it was... Amazing! How? He watched with certain wonder, if not a huge amount of curiousity as the creatures came to life, both moving and one speaking. It was Little Bird -and Leonardo was the first to admit to her bravery by doing so - that answered the kirin's question and posed one of her own. Leonardo, seeming to remember, he too had a voice of his own, chimed in. "I myself would like to know so as well." His eyes traveled rapidly, absorbing any detail. The way they moved, the way they looked, they way they talked. Fascinating, fascinating indeed.

Nariah... middle district...None of this was making any sense to her. Keiko shook her head, her brows furrowing in confusion as her eyes swept across the horses in front of her before sweeping across the charred landscape around them. This place was a mess. Burnt remains of the buildings that once stood tall and proud now laid on the ground defeated by whatever happened to them. The kirin's gaze returned to the horses in front of her as more of them began to speak. Their voices were laced with hesitation and something else... fear? That was until a strong, little voice spoke up above everyone else, and Keiko swung her head to look down at a little pegasus that had approached the kirin beside her. She used her wings to slowly reach up and touch the scales on his face, but when she tried to touch his antlers, she failed. There was something about the filly that brought a small smile to her face. There was an inkling of a memory that fought to be seen. Something about... a little girl with beautiful scales as blue and purple as a sparkling gem? "What's your name?" The foal's question pulled her away from her concentration, and Keiko flicked her tail, one of her curled ears trained on the kirin beside her. What was her name? The pale mare blinked in surprise. Her memories were too foggy and blurred to remember clearly what her name had been or if she had even had one to begin with. A worried and saddened expression crossed her face, and while the filly's question had not been directed at her, Keiko responded with a crackling voice after centuries of silence, "I don't remember my name..."

Amity watched wearily as the child approached the male kirin with a little skip in her step. Oh how Amity wished she could be like that again. Trusting, carefree, not having to worry if something went wrong because you would had family to fall back on. Her crimson eyes stayed fixed on the filly's wings as they brushed over the scales on the male's face, half waiting for him to step forward and burn the child, half staying optimistic about the situation, as was her nature. And likely the reason she kept finding herself in troubling situations.
Blood oozed down her leg as she stood as still as possible, her mane still covering the gash that she hoped would stop bleeding soon. If she had to run, a bleeding wound definitely wouldn't be making things easier. Thankfully the lighting was dim and the front part of her coat was dark so it was very unlikely someone would notice unless they bumped into her and felt something sticky, or happened to smell it. Kili hooted quietly and kept his eyes on the female kirin who was now the closer of the two, sensing that she didn't mean any harm. Amity waited in continued silence, but nodded her head and offered a warm smile of welcoming. She didn't want to set anyone off just yet in case they were dangerous, so she contented herself listening to the somewhat unclear jumble that were their thoughts. Mostly confusion from what she could hear, but that could change in an instant. So she stayed alert with her guard up, but displayed as friendly body language as she could muster with one leg and shoulder remaining stiff.

aginor
Aginor's locked jaw held back a surprised exclamation as reality opened up, and two impossible things fell through.
It was hard to understand at first, with his eyes slowly adjusting from magical radiance back to cavern dim, but the details became apparent almost one at a time: a gemstone scale, a curved antler tine, a bright dragon's eye. Kirins were so long dead that their very existence had been brushed away by some as apocrypha-- the mythical servants of a long-vanished god. As far as Aginor knew, they had been consigned to eternity in the role of fabled fiends, the figures that mothers like his own used to keep their children close to lamplight.
He'd been warned about wandering the caverns, he supposed wryly. It was almost funny, at least until he heard the kirins speak, breaching centuries of extinction. I don't remember my name... Of course not.
It wasn't like Aginor to be afraid, and he wasn't. Even so, he blew a gentle cautious breath out as the kirins found their feet, and his eyes began to travel over their ornate antlers. They towered like candelabras, and in a moment of irrational awe, Aginor wondered if they would scrape the cavern ceiling. Perhaps he was a little more affected than he'd thought.
He kept his lips tight as the others' vows seemed to fall away, his own silence reinforced by shock as much as anything. His expression, always stoic, had been tugged into unusual severity, but remained mostly unreadable.
As his nostrils flared, he picked up a sharp metallic smell, nauseatingly familiar. Only then did he tear his gaze away from the ancient beings, and searched for any signs of blood. With all eyes on the new arrivals it was hard to pick out anyone behaving strangely, but after a moment of observation the discomfort of the mare he'd followed became apparent. Aginor studied her in extended silence, noticing the gleam on her leg in the darkness.
He watched her long enough to meet her eyes, then looked back at the kirins. 343 words | post 3 aginor does nothing: a novel

Still in a state of disarray, Reyes’s responses were delayed. “Reyes,” he managed to cough out, and was thoroughly surprised by himself that he had managed to recall such information. If only he could remember more.
He looked down upon the filly, who was far too close to him than he was comfortable with. She was loud and obnoxious, but something told him that if he were to lay a hoof on the filly, the other equines would not be so appreciative.
His mind was sent reeling as he tried to process everything around him. The mention of Nariah struck a chord of familiarity in his mind - but he could not recall why.
“Nariah…,” he said and struggled to get the word out. His brows furrowed with frustration. “I…I need to leave.”
And suddenly he felt dizzy. It was all too much for him and he didn’t know what to do. He wanted to run, but he knew that his legs were weak, and he knew nothing about his surroundings. It became apparent to Reyes that the small group that had gathered around would be his only hope in the strange world that he now found himself in.

Amity's silence continued as she watched the small group of horses, pegasai and Kirins, focusing on their thoughts to distract her from any other discomforts like the stinging cut or standing on the ashes of the city she grew up in. However she felt eyes on her, and someone's thoughts echoed around in her head that they saw she was hurt. Maybe if I don't move or look around they'll look away. the chimeric mare thought to herself as she steadied herself in a comfortable position she could remain stationary in. But the feeling of being watched didn't go away and her resolve couldn't hold forever...her eyes flicked over and made eye contact with the only other being who hadn't spoken yet, the one with the Argus' eyes tattoos. A small sigh lifted her shoulders for a moment before she looked away and retrained her thoughts and eyes on the Kirins. The stallion seemed particularly uncomfortable. The word 'Nariah' seemed to have registered with him, peaking the small mare's curiosity. Even back when kirins walked Hireath...weren't they all in Aodh? How did these creatures end up here, then and now? Why did they disappear? Question after question rose in her mind like wildfire licking at dry brush. But these creatures, although likely a bad sign and dangerous, were nervous and confused. They needed help. When the kirin stallion murmured about leaving, her voice rose just enough to be heard.
"Wait please, sir...I know you're confused and weary of us, but you're in no condition to go off into the tunnels alone. Please, we only want to help...I know it's strange and new but we're your best option of getting to safety. We'll take care of you." Amity directed her words to the other kirin as well, offering a sympathetic smile their way. Sure she was scared and upset, but these strangers needed her to be present there to help.

Leonardo | Driven
She didn't know her own name? How odd? What happened to these poor creatures -if Argus may forgive him for calling these so called monsters so-? They had always thought kirins had long since vanished from the world, but here they were and in Breim no less. Were it the gods, meddling into mortal affairs? Could the resurection of a species long extinct even be called mortal affairs? And to what purpose would they bring them back? Why now? Why here? Which god? Clearly they had some sense of irony, putting them in the herd that was destroyed by their hooves, burned by their fire. Was it perhaps Ignacio, striking at their herd again? But then surely Argus would defend his herd. He closed for a second, trying to calm his mind. In the back of it, he could hear his father berate him, understanding the reasonings of gods. He was a mortal. That meant an inability to grasp at the logic of stars. It was too hard, too incomprehensable and he would insult the gods trying to anyway. Leonardo almost snorted, telling the voice to quiet down. Though he may not understand the why, he could very well concentrate on the now, answer current questions, thz ones stnding in front of him. Curious as he was, they needed answers on more pressing matters. He cast a worrying eye on the foal, approaching the creature so carelesly. Clearly they had not been told the scary kirin stories many Breimian children got to hear. "I'm afraid there is no leaving at the moment. We need to clear some things up." He stated, looking between the two antelered equines. "You say you don't remember your name? Your companion does seem to remember his. Do you know how you got here? State your intentions, please. We will not harm you if can promise the same to us."

Little Bird | Breim | Outsider
To say that Little Bird was frightened and nervous was an understatement. What was going on? Where did these horned, scaly equines come from? Her brown eyes scanned the surrounding area, her trained eyes focused on the sooty ground around them. There were no hoofprints leading to where the kirins stood now, and there was no wind, rain, or snow that could possible make their path through the ashes disappear. The only way they could have gotten there without a path marked by their hoofprints was that they had simply appeared out of thin air. 'None of this makes sense.' She thought and looked toward her husband with a worried glance. If kirins were appearing out of thin air, it meant that something major was happening, and the authorities needed to know. They could mean danger for the herd, and they could mean danger for her family which was something that Little Bird just couldn't have.
In her lapse of concentration, she hadn't noticed her daughter slip away from them and approach the stallion kirin, stretching out her wings to touch the stallion's scales. Her eyes widened for a moment in shock and fear, but Birdie fought her urge to rush to her daughter and drag her away from the potentially dangerous strangers especially after hearing how lost and confused the two were. The pink-scaled mare couldn't even remember her own name. "Rosie, dear, please come here. I'm sure our guests are tired and might not appreciate your curiousness like we do." She beckoned for the little filly to return to her with a warm smile before looking sadly at the kirin mare who looked at her daughter with some flash of recognition on her face.
During the mess of horses talking with the kirins, Little Bird approached Diony and spoke to him in a hushed voice, her gaze flicking cautiously to the kirins every time they moved. "Diony, we need to tell someone about this. Even if they don't mean any harm, which I don't think they do, the authorities need to be told. This could end up being very bad if other herds find out... namely one recent visiting herd in particular." Aodh. Oh gods, if they found out that Breim had kirins running around in their tunnels, they'd bring more than dragons to collect them. Little Bird hated being the party-pooper, but she couldn't risk any harm coming to her family, and all Aodh seemed to do was make things worse.

aginor
Aginor listened to the conversation carry on and strained against his vow of silence. Ears pinned, he kept his eyes on the kirins as the dialogue seemed to get out of hand. Their otherworldly visitors were acting less and less stable, something Aginor sensed his herdmates were struggling to contain. Licking his back teeth, his jaw set, he listened to Leonardo try to take command.
In true Breimian fashion, Leonardo was still polite while trying to forbid the immortal's exit. Aginor had a feeling the kirins weren't going to be keen on takng commands no matter what.
Little Bird spoke up with surprising clarity, and Aginor nodded in silent agreement. Aginor was uniquely familiar with Aodh's unique brand of international affairs. They would be storming Nariah in parades if word got out before Hajime could control the situation. This was not a minor incident. This was an honest-to-gods meltdown of time and space.
His mind raced. His training as consul to Aodh was only just completed, and while his long-term placement in Valore was imminent, he'd never stepped foot in Eithne without the guidance of his predecessor, Samson. He was unsure his involvement would resolve the situation but ... Argus would forgive him for trying.
"You're a long way from Valore," he began, his always-calm voice smooth as a river stone. "I've been there, as a consul to Eithne's court." Aginor knew that the Valore of yesteryear lay in ruins, but he hoped the sound of the city's name would give the traveler a foothold to keep him out of hysterics. "You must have questions." He remembered to blink, to take a silent, deliberate breath. His voice didn't tremble. "If you'll let me bring you to the king, we can provide answers, and some privacy while you get your bearings." 298 words | post 4

Keiko felt a surge of panic erupt inside of her. She felt her heart rise to her throat, and her sides rose and fell more rapidly as her breath quickened. She should known this. She should know her own name or where she was or even where she came from, and yet everything was blank. Her blue eyes slid over to the kirin beside her as he answered the horses around them. "Reyes."
Her brows furrowed in confusion and heartache, and her mind whirled as she tried her hardest to call forth some kind of memory or recognition. If anything at all were to become clear to her, she would have been happy, but it seemed her panic was only making things worse. She felt her body instinctively react and recoil, causing her to slowly back away from the small crowd around her. She needed more space. She needed time to get herself together and figure out who was she, and the horses whispering around her weren't helping to ease her. "I...I need to leave." Her curled ear swiveled toward the voice of the stallion beside her, but her eyes remained on the floor, widened in fear and bewilderment. She had to get out of there.
"I'm afraid there is no leaving at the moment. We need to clear some things up." Her eyes burned from tears that threatened to fall down her cheeks as she looked up at the horse that spoke, and she prayed the horses around her wouldn't notice her moment of weakness. Clear things up? They had a lot of things to clear up but Keiko sure as hell couldn't do that right now. "I don't remember anything. It's all so... clouded." The pink-scaled mare ground her teeth together, trying to keep her emotions under control. "Please... I don't feel much like talking right now. I just... need time to figure all of this out." Her voice took on a more defeated tone.
Keiko was just about to turn away to leave when another voice spoke above the onslaught of questions that she had no answers to. Eithne. Recognition flashed across her face, and her head swung to look over at the dark, tattooed equine. "Eithne? Y-you've been there?" While she wasn't entirely sure what the name meant to her quite yet, the name definitely sounded familiar to her. The kirin dipped her head respectively to the consul, her antlers glistening in the light that reflected through them. "I'd very much appreciate that, consul."
