Marea Mare / Traveling Merchant / War-Forged
The sun was shining clear and bright in the center of the sky, casting its rays along the ever-thawing Onean landscape. Summer was not Marea's favorite season by any means; she preferred the crisp winds and ethereal snowfall that fall and winter brought to the lands over the bright heat that summer had to offer. However, she could be persuaded to tolerate summer on days like this, days where the air was tepid and clear, rather than stifling and damp as it tended to be.
It did help that she had one of her elusive 'free days' on her hooves. She had sold the bulk of her stock and a week still remained before she would venture out to replenish it, leaving her with little more to do than make lists of the essentials she needed to procure and budgeting her coin to see how much freedom she had to pick up any eye-catching pieces she might happen upon. And Marea had already finished those two tasks yesterday, leaving her to wander Skeldr Town looking for entertainment.
The chestnut mare was about to chart a course for her friend Keirian's home when an odd sight caught her attention first. She quirked her ears forward in time to catch a boisterous declaration of a challenge followed by a mix of jeers and laughing. She took a few idle steps towards the commotion, recognizing a few of the herd's Scouts gathered around an otherwise empty strip of road. A small smirk grazed the mare's features as she realized what was going on; an impromptu race. Certainly this was just as good entertainment as any, she thought, strolling closer. A flashy bay caught her eye, partly because he was the one initiating the challenge, and partly due to the striking tattoo of indigo and emerald that extended all the way from hoof to shoulder on his left foreleg. She simpered coyly as he caught her eye for a moment, though it was only a moment before he had to turn back to his competitor. Oh yes, she would stick around to see the outcome of this race.

Iden
Stallion | Scout | War-Forged
A cool breeze blew through the group of Scouts as the morning sun shone brightly down, warming Onea nicely. Iden nickered competitively as he sized up against his rivals in the centre of a small gathering of horses; He loved it when all eyes were on him, and today he definitely felt like showing off.
It had all started when someone commented that even though Iden was tall, he could still be beaten at a race, something that Iden was obviously quick to shoot down...one thing had lead to another, and now an impromptu challenge had been announced; a race of sorts to see who would be quickest in a short circuit. The ruccus of scouts challenging each other to a race had garnered some attention from horses nearby, eager to see the outcome, and Iden had definitely risen to the occasion of being the front-man in this situation. He could win, and he would.
From his postition in the middle of the small crowd, his neck pricked as he looked around him, acutely aware that there was at least one pair of eyes watching his display. Turning, he caught the emerald eyes of a chestnut tobiano mare, a small smile across her face as she approached the group with a glint of intrigue. That was enough for Iden. He kicked out his tattoo imbued leg, laughing confidently as he turned back to his competitor. With a few snorts and nickers, the pair of stallions took their positions, counted themselves down, and were off. Dust kicked up and into the faces of the on-lookers, hoof beats thundered off into the distance and the pair shortly became silhouettes on the morning horizon.
A few minutes passed and the audience muttered between them, each taking verbal bets on which would be the first to return, until the sound of the returning winner could be heard from the middle distance. The tall bay stallion almost flew past with a loud cry of exhilaration, beaming from ear to ear before skidding to a halt. A few moments later and his competitor followed suit; quick, but not quite quick enough to curb Iden's enthusiasm. The pair stood laughing and panting while the group congratulated, commiserated, and eventually dispersed, leaving Iden to turn once again to try and find the gaze of the chestnut mare.

Marea Mare / Traveling Merchant / War-Forged
Marea waited for the initial cloud of dust to subside before she edged closer to the small group of Scouts, all eagerly cheering and placing their bets on which stallion would return victorious. Marea was rather curious about that herself. The bay had put on a good show so far, but could he back it up with skill was the true question. Marea and the others who had flocked to the site didn't have long to wait before the competitors raced back into view, the sound of their frantic hoof beats growing louder with each passing second. Marea squinted and peered through the dust cloud, and she let out a small chuckle as it became apparent the bay she was eyeing not minutes before would reach the finish line first. Not all just talk, it seems, she thought to herself bemusedly, stepping back a few paces to avoid the incoming cloud of dust.
His legs were a brown and green blur as he flew past her and the other Scouts, much to their mixed reactions. Some cheered while others cursed, no doubt over their lost coin for placing the wrong bet. Nevertheless, they all gathered around the two stallions, welcoming them back and sharing who had won the most shards off their bets. Eventually, the crowd thinned, and each horse ambled away in generally good spirits. Except the bay with the striking tattoo, Marea observed. He wasn't leaving with his comrades; quite the contrary, he was headed straight in her direction. Never the type to leave it up to others to make the first move, Marea tossed her head and sauntered over to cover the last few strides that separated them. "That was quite the sight," she commented, "Almost as impressive as that work of art," she continued, nodding at his inked foreleg. "I don't recall ever meeting you before; shame at that," she remarked, looking up at the stallion with a small smirk, "I'm Marea," she offered, dipping her head slightly in greeting.

Iden | War-Forged | Stallion --
Iden flashed his winning smile at the mare as he trotted over beside her. Already, he appreciated the compliments he was being given, and liked the once-over she had given him as he'd approached. ''Thanks,'' he replied, stretching out his tattoed leg as if to show it off even more. ''Sometimes I don't even know what's more impressive, my looks or my talent!'' he joked, shaking the dust gathered from his little run out of his coat and mane.
''Name's Iden, I don't think we've met, I would have remembered'' he trailed off, finding himself becoming genuinely intrigued by the coy smile upon the mare's face. He flattened his ear to his head and furrowed his brow, giving her a quizzical look. ''How come you were watching me race anyway?'' he asked, tilting his head in question. It wasn't often he actually got interest from mare's after he initiated conversation, let alone having one actually introduce herself - it was kind of a rule for some that Iden was that special blend of overly confident and too full of himself to make him appealing, and yet this was different...This mare was clearly also confident in herself, and Iden was keen not to mess up this introduction.

Marea Mare / Traveling Merchant / War-Forged
Marea chuckled at the stallion's display, but it wasn't a mocking laugh, rather an amused one. "A question for the ages," she agreed, peering down at his tattoo again. It was quite the work of art, and the blue-green tones stood out brilliantly against his warm coat, creating an eye-catching visual. She made a note of his name and nodded, "No, we haven't met before. I don't spend much time in town," she explained, "I'm a traveling merchant, so there's not much reason for me to stick around here for long periods of time."
She considered his next question and shrugged daintily, giving her tail a flick. "Well, it happens to be one of the rare occasions that I'm out of stock and stuck in town for a week or so," she answered, "So I was on a search for entertainment... and it seems my search was successful," she added. Races weren't the most common sight in town; you were far more likely to see a drunken brawl between two raiders than a friendly sporting competition. Besides, it had been a while since Marea had bothered to meet new members of her own herd, and now was as good a time as any, considering she was stranded amongst them for a time.

Iden | War-Forged | Stallion --
The stallion laughed heartily, throwing his head back. ''Ahh, well, thank you for humouring me Marea!'' he nodded. ''It's nice to see a new face every once in a while,'' Iden smiled kindly as he spoke. ''I'm sorry if I come off a bit strong, I also don't really get to meet that many people...I'm a Scout you see, so its very much either other Scouts, or completely alone on patrol!''
Iden pulled his hooves through the dirt beneath him, kicking up small rocks as he spoke. ''Well, I wonder, if you have the day to yourself, if you'd want to spend it with me?'' he asked with a genuine smile. ''I know some lovely places around Onea, and surely it beats us both being bored?'' his head cocked to one side as he asked. He wasn't ever a stallion to question his own judgement, or doubt himself, but something about the mare really intrigued him...like he actually wanted to get to know her; a feeling he wasn't 100% used to...

Marea Mare / Traveling Merchant / War-Forged
"Well, it seems fortune smiled on us both today," she observed, returning the stallion's smile with one of her own, "I never gave it much thought before, but unless you're a merchant in Skeldr you really don't get to spend much time in town. At least, not as much as an Aodhian or Talorian town, anyway," she added as an after thought. "Most... well almost all of my friends and acquaintances were met out on the road." Not that that was a bad thing, she thought to herself, just something she hadn't considered until now. Perhaps it would be better to come to town more often; who knows how many potentially interesting herd mates she had. The last few years of her life had been devoted to establishing herself as a merchant, but now that she was living with a mostly stable income she was afforded the chance to socialize more. A chance she had yet to take.
"That sounds like a plan to me," she remarked, nodding her agreement. The stallion's confidence and enthusiasm came as a breath of fresh air; it had been a while since she'd had an entirely lighthearted day that didn't involve work. "We can see if the spots you know are better than the spots I know," she added, a hint of a playful challenge in her voice.
