Two of a Kind Muiris | Ezmeralda War-Colt | BlueUnicornJ13
Y1700: Set right after Chapter 2. After arriving safely at Skeldr Town, somehow still in one piece, Muiris offers to stay with Ezmeralda in her travels until she heals (not to mention, he could use a little bit of a break too). However, now they must be careful, as when one bridge falls, there's always one that will follow.

M U I R I S ❅War-Forged Raider❅
Fate whispers to the Warrior "You cannot withstand the Storm" the Warrior whispers back "I am the Storm" The recent events had left the stallion with mixed emotions. For one, he felt as though he was carrying the weight of the world on his shoulders. He had a new blessing that he still did not fully understand. His mother's death had left a large gaping hole in his heart. He had watched his friends, and other members of his herd, get terribly hurt and he, the only Raider in the group, could do nothing about it. It didnt help that one of those friends happened to be Ezmeralda. Even though she continued on like a trooper on her injured leg, he couldnt help but worry. He was a warrior. In battle, an injured leg meant a very large chance of death.
But boy, was he happy to be home.
He had missed the cold of Onea. He had missed the open space and the nature. He had missed being able to walk on his own without tripping over someone every two minutes. He had missed the quiet. He had missed his friend.
The large roan had offered to keep Ezmeralda company on her travels, at least till her leg had time to heal. Besides, he could use a little bit of a break. He had traveled day and night to get home from Valore, only to be thrust into a mission that sapped even more of his energy.. he was exhausted.
They had left town after gathering necessary supplies; food, water, and whatever else they would need for the time being. The Oneaian ground felt great under Muiris's shod hooves as they traveled, a small limp present in his front leg. His knee had been scraped from his first call on the mountain- nothing bad, but it sure was healing with a vengeance. He wore his father's old traveling cloak, simple worn, green cloth covering his roan back and painted rump. His hair was messy and unkept, his tail trailing behind him, but he was too tired to get it up and out of the way.
Please, Kaia, give us a break.
His glance shifted to his travelling partner, the painted unicorn mare whom he had dubbed his closest friend.. possibly even more if he could just work up the courage to offer it. A soft smile sat on his lips as he tore his gaze away, hoping he hadnt been staring for too long than what was normal. He wondered if she had noticed that he had been gone. Fox had been the only one he had told about his little trip, and that was only because she tore the information out of him.
He wondered if he had been gone long enough to be missed.
Training his gaze ahead of them, he squinted against the sunshine, its rays falling from high in the sky. Clouds dotted the sky, but they were no where near thick enough to provide shade. A small fog shifted through the trees, swirling at their feet as they moved through. It was just cool enough that the walk actually felt nice.
"How's your leg?" He finally asked, breaking the comfortable silence as he slowed down and tipped his head to glance over at Ezmeralda once more.

Ezmeralda | War-Forged | Herder
It had been a long and tedious trip to Skeldr Town after their devastating accident on the mountain. It was true that Onea's bridges were world-famous, but that didn't mean that they were invincible. Of course, it would have been nice if it hadn't been the bridge that her group had been on, but things like that happen sometimes. Ezmeralda could only be thankful that they had escaped with their lives.
Her green eyes slid over toward Muiris who had graciously offered to travel with her until the leg she had injured during the avalanche was healed enough where she would be able to protect herself from any sort of danger that Onea seemed to love to throw at its residents. It had been difficult to see the horse that she considered her closest friend be put into that kind of danger and injured. She had wished that he hadn't been among the group that day. That he was safe at home or sitting around a campfire under the stars, but she was also grateful that he had been there. If he hadn't, Ezmeralda wasn't sure if she would have remained as calm as she had been, and everyone knew what could come if she lost control over herself.
She shook her head slightly, casting away the thoughts of events that had already happened and focusing on the present. Her injured leg caused her to limp along at a much slower pace than she was used to going, but the wrap that the Medics had given her seemed to help at least a little. Roselia had offered to keep the sheep on their family's plot of land in the Farmlands for the time being to give Ezmeralda some much needed time off, so she carried very few of her belongings with her other than her fur-trimmed coat and a satchel with essentials such as food, water, blankets, and a small tent. Thankfully, the extra weight wasn't too much on her leg because she certainly didn't want to be stopping Muiris every few miles to rest. That would be so embarrassing to go from a conditioned herder to a feeble mare who needed to stop and rest. Plus, the exercise was helping with the healing process... or at least she hoped it was.
Returning to the present, Ezmeralda's gaze swept over toward Muiris, catching him just in time to see his eyes slid off of her pelt to the landscape ahead of them. She chewed on her bottom lip nervously, wondering how long he had been staring for and if she had done anything that was embarrassing during her few minutes of absentmindedness. Her ears perked up at the sound of his voice before she answered, "It's doing okay actually. It's not as stiff as it was this morning or even a few days ago, so hopefully it's healing." Her voice was lighthearted and optimistic despite the heavy limp still in her gait, but while she hoped that the pain would go away, she knew that also meant Muiris would leave again to return to his own travels and work.
She always missed his company during his absences especially recently during a particularly long lapse in time where she hadn't even spotted a glimpse of his familiar dark pelt. During these times, she often found herself returning to her memories of him during their previous encounters like the first time that they had met and their evening together during the Flower Festival. Her sister, Roselia, always seemed to notice when she was off in her own merry daydreams, and the teasing never seemed to stop though Ezmeralda didn't mind. Even though she had a crush on the roan Raider, that didn't mean that he harbored the same feelings. They were just friends, and Ezmeralda was perfectly okay with that. Friends as caring and relationships so close as the one she and Muiris shared were hard to come by, and she thanked Kaia for blessing her with that.
Her eyes traveled to the cut on one of his front legs that was still causing him to limp in pain. "Is your leg still bothering you? I think I still have some more of that ointment the Medic gave me that you could put on it. It's supposed to help it heal and keeps it a little numb." She offered with a small smile dancing across her lips as she looked back up at his face.

M U I R I S ❅War-Forged Raider❅
Fate whispers to the Warrior "You cannot withstand the Storm" the Warrior whispers back "I am the Storm" He gave a soft smile as she mentioned what the medic had done for her. It was funny, really, hitting up a medic was the last thing he had had on his mind when they had gotten back to town. If no one had been around to watch him make a fool of himself, he would have instead kissed the ground and refused to never leave again. However, that was not an option, so he took to making sure everyone else got the attention they needed, from a medic or otherwise, and completely forgot this his own problems existed.
It didnt matter, though, his wounds were nowhere near as bad as the others' were. He had been lucky, for once.
"Do let me know if you need a break, though." He replied, noticing how she walked a little slower than she usually did. "Pushing it isnt going to help it heal any better. We certainly dont want to mess with whatever's already healed."
"Oh, no, dont worry about me." He said with a soft chuckle, flinging his forelock from his bright eyes. "Its just a small scrape, in a bad spot is all. It should be fine by tomorrow. Ive had worse anyways. Save the rest of it for yourself." He assured her, stretching out the culprit leg a little further with each step to stretch it. It truly wasnt bothering him- it was almost as if favoring a leg was second nature to a Raider.
However, he couldnt stop himself from glancing down at her with a soft grin. "Thank you, though."
His mind started wandering once more, his brow furrowing in thought. Flashbacks from the breaking bridge started to rage in his mind as it had for the past few days. It wasnt the crumbling stone or falling snow, though, it was something.. a little less understandable. His entire trip home from Aodh, he had tried to play with his blessing. He had tried to manipulate the Earth as his blessing title claimed he would have been able to do, but.. he couldnt.. Well, he couldnt until he had found himself in the utmost danger.
He still remembered the feeling of him falling, and then being caught by a piece of Earth that had not been there before.
A shiver ran through his bones at the thought.
For now, he was content where he was with his skill. He felt more in tune with the Earth around him. He felt feelings that he had heard Fox describe with her tremor sense. He, too, could feel the movement of the Earth beneath his hooves. It was almost as if Earth herself were coursing through his veins. He could feel each step he and Ezmeralda took. It certain did wonders to opening his eyes to the nature that surrounded them.
It was then that the stallion found himself pausing, pulling himself from his thoughts as he noticed the pillars of a large bridge forming before them in the distance. There it was again, those damn flashbacks. Biting his lip, he chose to continue to press forward. They would be able to assess the bridge itself when they got closer; there was no need to get fidgety now when all that could be seen so far was the top suspension.
Trying to shake off the suspenseful jitters, Muiris figured a little small talk wouldnt hurt. It had felt like ages since they had seen each other and actually been able to talk. "H-how have you been lately?" Nice. "It's been a while since we've actually been able to have a decent conversation without Onea throwing obstacle after obstacle at us." He prompted with an amused snort.

Ezmeralda | War-Forged | Herder
The soft smile on his face was contagious, and she found herself feeling a little more relaxed and less worried about her own problems the longer that small smile remained on his face. She chuckled softly at his remark and nodded her head, causing her forelock to fall partly into her face. "I'll be sure to let you know, and I can't thank you enough for traveling with me while I heal. I would have probably gotten eaten by a hungry cougar by now if you weren't with me." He was right. She didn't want to undo any healing that had already happened, and she didn't want to overdo herself. If her leg injured itself any more, a Medic may have her holed up on bed-rest for weeks to properly heal and rest, and that was something that Ezmeralda would not be able to stand. She needed to be out in the open among the great outdoors and exploring the lands that Kaia so graciously had given them.
She glanced down as he stretched out his cut leg with each step he took. It certainly wasn't the greatest place for rocks to slice you, but when you're falling several feet down the mountainside, you didn't get much of a choice where the rocks cut you. "No problem, Muiris, and let me know if you change your mind."
Her mind drifted off once again as a comfortable silence fell between them. All of the talk about injuries and medicine brought back terrible memories of that bridge. It had been unbelievable to see as the massive, stone bridge fell to pieces as if Kaia herself had struck the structure herself. She remembered how it felt to have the loose rubble slam against her body, cutting her skin each time she was hit, and she remembered the aftermath. It had been eerily quiet and still as the dust settled, and she waited to hear if anyone else was alive. It brought back the fear of losing her friends just like she had lost her own parents to an avalanche when she and her sister had been little fillies. They were moments that would never cease to haunt her.
Looking forward, Ezmeralda's heart sank slightly at what stood before them: a bridge. As they approached, she grew still, her hooves not touching the boards that made up the wooden bridge. She studied it carefully for any signs of wear and tear that would lead it to it tumbling down into an abyss.
Her heart nearly jumped into her throat when Muiris's voice broke the silence, and she quickly followed him onto the bridge, hoping that he hadn't noticed her pause. "I've been doing well. Kind of boring everyday stuff, but sometimes boring is good." Ezmeralda added in a slightly joking tone, chuckling softly. "It has been quite awhile. Where have you been? I know the last time we talked you mentioned possibly traveling to Aodh. Did you get the chance to go?" She asked curiously, looking over the edge of the bridge as they walked further and further away from solid ground. Gods, she would have loved to be born a pegasus, never having to worry about falling.
She found herself walking a little closer to the roan stallion, close enough that her tail accidentally brushed against him. Ezmeralda blushed harshly and glanced away for a moment while she tried to regain her composure. "S-sorry about that." Just as she spoke, she felt a slight tremor that sent her skidded to a stop. Her eyes widened and looked back in the direction that they had come. "D-did you feel that?" The paint unicorn asked in a hushed tone as if her own voice could set off some kind of domino effect.

M U I R I S ❅War-Forged Raider❅
Fate whispers to the Warrior "You cannot withstand the Storm" the Warrior whispers back "I am the Storm" He tipped his head as she thanked him, a small smile finding his lips where words did not. Thanks were certainly not necessary, as he would happily drop everything and run to help her with anything, big or small. He often wondered if she knew that; if any of his friends knew that. His loyalty knew no bounds, almost to the part where he would be considered clingy to some. He didnt mind, though, it was all worth the smile on his friend's face.
He listened as she replied to his question, his muscles tensing as his hoof pressed its first step onto the wooden bridge. This one looked much differently than the one they had experienced only a few days ago. This one was a little older, the wooden floor splintered in certain areas, but still strong as far as he could tell. The stone structures showed evidence of it being remodeled and fixed over the years, pieces of metal here and there holding it together like a band aid. The sight surely didnt help his nerves one little bit, but he couldnt show that a measly bridge put him off. Besides, there was no other way around it.
He pressed forward.
"I'd take boring at this point." He agreed with a soft laugh. "As long as it gives us a break, right?"
His lips pressed together as she mentioned Aodh, his heart stinging ever so slightly as he pushed those memories down.. deep down. "I did, actually." He replied, though the chipperness in his tone had fallen just a tad. "I'll have to tell you about it later, it surely was.. an experience." His brow quirked at his own words, but that was the best he could describe it as. His trip had shown him the evils of their frivolous allies, but he had also been blessed with the birth of his nephew and a new friend if he ever happened to end up in Aodh again. If he looked at it in just the right light, the good outweighed the bad.
He noticed her glancing over the side of the bridge and found himself doing the same, only to casually scoot back to the middle. That was quite the way's down. Her tail brushed his hide and he heard her stammered apology, but all all he could offer was a twitch of his ears and a look that said dont worry about it. For some reason, it felt as though just the weight of their voices could crack the structure they were now in the middle of.
And thats when he felt it.
A small crack beneath his right front hoof.
Stopping in his tracks and slowly releasing pressure from the point, his gaze shifted back to his companion. "Ez.." he started, but she had felt it too. "Yeah, i felt that.." He released his breath slowly, glancing back the way they had came. It seemed to be an equal distance both ways, so they had a choice.
And Muiris hated choices.
Shifting his weight to his back legs, he slowly inched closer to Ezmeralda until he was standing right beside her, his pelt brushing hers. This time, if the bridge did decide to fall, he wasnt going to let them get separated.
"Last time, we decided to turn back.. i think we may have better luck pressing forward. Get in front of the fall if it decides to.." He tried to reason, the logic bouncing around in his mind. Was that a good choice? Or would that just put them in the same pickle as last time.. or worse.. Biting his lip, he looked down to his friend, hoping she had a better idea, or at least agreed with him.

Ezmeralda | War-Forged | Herder
She glanced over at him out of the corner of her eye, hearing the sudden drop of cheerfulness in his tone. Muiris seemed to be a master at trying to mask and hide emotions. It probably had something to do with his job as a Raider, but Ezmeralda knew all too well when someone was trying to mask something from her own attempts at hiding her inner thoughts. Perhaps his trip hadn't been as relaxing as he had hoped or something unexpected had happened. Either way, Ezmeralda nodded at his reply. She could wait to hear his story whenever he was ready.
The bridge was at an unbelievable height, and every time she looked over the edge, Ezmeralda found her heart beating faster and faster. She had never been afraid of crossing the bridges of Onea before in her entire life, but now that she had experienced the aftermath that followed their collapse. It felt like she was reliving it over and over again in her mind.
It fell deathly quiet between them. Not that Ezzie minded the silence, it felt like if she even breathed that the whole thing would go tumbling down and them with it! That was when she started to try to be rational with herself. What was the likelihood of them being on two breaking bridges in such a short amount of time? It was obvious that this bridge was older, but it had metal pieces here and there where repairs had been done to it. The repairs would make it even sturdier than before!
That was when the bridge had shook, cracking loudly beneath them. Ezmeralda held her breath, afraid that even the slightest of movements would end them. As Muiris confirmed her fears, she felt her emotions skyrocket. Her leg was injured, and she couldn't even walk without limping. How was she supposed to get off this bridge in any kind of timely manner? Her mind flooded with memories of their earlier accident. The sounds of the bridge shattering and her herdmates shouting in pain and terror seemed to surround her. Ezmeralda could feel her breath quicken along with her rapid heartbeat. Panic and fear had taken its grasp on her so quickly that she hadn't even had a chance to calm herself down. 'No... no! This can't be happening!'
That was when Muiris's voice broke her concentration, and she tried her hardest to concentrate solely on his voice and the feeling of his pelt against hers. He had always seemed to have a calming effect on her. Even in the heart of a blizzard or the collapse of a bridge, he was like an anchor in the storm. Despite that though, she could feel the blessing inside of her grow uncontrollable, and she could only hope that she would have time to regain her composure before something else terrible happened. Biting her lip, her green eyes looked back in the direction that they had come before sliding back toward the path ahead. They were almost equal distance, leaving them with the choice of whether to go back or press forward. Muiris was right that they had turned back the last time and that could have been their demise, but Ezmeralda found herself torn between which direction to take. The path behind them hadn't made a single noise as they had walked on it, so it could be sturdier, but it still stood the chance of collapsing as soon as they tried to move backwards. If they tried to get across, they could make it to solid ground on the other side of the chasm. Plus, it would take precious time and a shift in weight that could set off the bridge to turn around and go back. They may need that time to gather their strength and run as fast as they could to the other side.
"I-I think we should go forward. Shifting our weight to go backwards may set off the fall, and we wouldn't even have time to start running before it starts to break." She agreed, her fear-stricken eyes looking from the wooden planks beneath their feet to his brown eyes in hope to find some sort of comfort. The two of them surely had some terrible luck to be stuck in this situation again, and she found herself wishing again that he was somewhere else, somewhere safe. If she had turned down his offer, maybe he wouldn't be in danger.
CRACK! She could see the wood splintering around their hooves as the bridge slowly lost its strength to hold them up. If they were going to run, they needed to go now. "Run!"

Fate whispers to the Warrior "You cannot withstand the Storm" the Warrior whispers back "I am the Storm" His breath had caught in his throat when cracks shot out from under their weight, his muscles falling so perfectly still, he wondered if he would be able to move ever again. His heart was racing, his lungs screaming for air as he forgot how to breathe. If it wasnt for his thick training, he probably would have broken down right there.
But he was trained to keep his mind going, even if his body refused. He considered all options, and when she confirmed the decision he had come to, his mind started reeling to figure out the safest way to go about continuing forward. He finally released the breath he had been holding, his lungs burning and vision growing fuzzy for a brief second. Had he really been holding it that long?
He opened his mouth to speak, but the bridge interrupted him. CRACK! It sounded as if the mountain itself was splitting in half. His ears rung, his mind fumbled. He could feel his own shod hooves losing traction as the bridge bowed, seemingly melting right out from underneath them.
Ezmeralda told him to run, but he wasnt going anywhere without her going first.
He nudged her softly with his muzzle, careful to keep his two small horns from jabbing her painted coat. They didnt need anymore injuries, no matter how amusing that would have been. Luck seemed to be laughing at them from the safe side of the cavern.
"Stick as close to the edge as you can!" He shouted over the moaning of the bridge, its supports trying their hardest to hold the rest of it afloat. A suspension snapped, flinging itself right at the stallion like a whip. He leapt out of the way at the very last minute, feeling it brush the tips of his coat on his rear. His heart slammed against his chest as his hooves scrambled across the splintered wood, keeping himself right behind his injured friend.
His gaze shifted down over the edge of the bridge, his vision wavering as the bridge itself shook. The drop was long, and they didnt have the convenience of a path like they did before. Could he risk attempting his blessing again? His brow furrowed at the thought, but he kept himself moving. The last thing he needed to do was to try to use it and mess up; sending the Earth in the wrong direction and put themselves in even more danger.
He bit his lip and sucked in a deep breath of debris and dust. No, he would wait until they had no other option.
And speaking of blessings, his mind wandered to Ezmeralda. He remembered that night in the storm, when they both shared about their lives and their problems. He remembered she had a blessing too; one that could be dangerous if she became over stressed.
His heart skipped a beat, the time seeming to flow in slow motion.
If that happened, there really was nothing he could do about it; and being a stallion who longed to have all the answers, that was one problem he did not have an answer to. WC: 523 | Post #4 Notes: Changing up his table already, dont mind me x'D

Ezmeralda | War-Forged | HerderShe felt the bridge rock beneath her as the wood beneath them cracked so loudly that it sounded as though a bolt of lightning had struck the boards. Her heart jumped into her throat, and her muscles tensed in fear. If it hadn’t been for Muiris’s nudge, she probably wouldn’t have been able to move, but with his insistent touch, Ezmeralda propelled herself forward. She ignored the pain the shot through her leg as she forced her legs to carry her forward quicker than they had moved in days.
Her ears pressed to the back of her head, but over the loud sounds of the bridge’s structure snapping beneath them, she could hear Muiris’s shout. Stick close to the edge? Why on earth would she want to go closer to the edge? It was then that the boards in front of her grew flimsy as a piece of suspension snapped. The wood almost swallowed her hooves, cracking almost in half and sending her to her doom. So that was why Muiris had said to stick to the edge! Without hesitation, the unicorn mare darted off to the edge of the bridge, feeling how the wood was more sturdy under her heavy hooves.
She squinted as shards of splintered wood shot upwards toward her face, creating small cuts along her neck and muzzle. Despite the sharp pain in her leg, Ezmeralda couldn’t think past the panic. Her sides heaved from the excursion, and her mind grew fuzzy with fear and anxiety running rampant inside of her. All of the stress was enough to trigger something inside of her, something that she wished she could control. Ezmeralda squeezed her eyes shut, relying on her other senses to guide her forward toward steady ground. ‘Please, Kaia, let this stop. The bridge collapsing is enough danger to put anyone through!’ Her prayers went unanswered though as she felt her mind search for a creature to call forth. There was nothing else she could do. Panic had taken control of her. ‘Kaia, at least make sure Muiris is safe from this, from me. I don’t want him to get hurt.’ She prayed silently as she ran for her life.
Her hooves sounded like thunder on the bridge that rang with each snap of the boards beneath them. She bit her lip anxiously. They were so close to the end of the bridge. They could make it!
SNAP!
The boards in front of them cracked, threatening to fall to pieces before they were across. Ezmeralda’s heart hammered in her chest but didn’t slow down her momentum. All those years of rock climbing after stuck sheep were about to pay off. Right before the cracked wood, she jumped, throwing herself forward as far as she could. She landed with a thud on solid rock on the other side and came to a stop several feet away from the edge of the cliff. Ezmeralda looked over her shoulder warily, searching for any sign of Muiris after she heard the final crumbling of the bridge. It crashed with a deafening roar… or was that coming from somewhere on the nearby mountain? She finally spotted his dark pelt within the cloud of dust and heaved a sigh of relief. He was safe (for now at least).
She was then crippled with a sharp pain to her head, a sign that told her to make herself as isolated as she possibly could. She gritted her teeth together and held her head low as her sides heaved from escaping the bridge. It was coming and quickly. "M-Muiris... y-you need to leave." Ezmeralda's voice was strained and filled with sheer panic. The sound of a beast's roar was unmistakable this time. "P-please go! Run!"

M U I R I S ❅War-Forged Raider❅
Fate whispers to the Warrior "You cannot withstand the Storm" the Warrior whispers back "I am the Storm" As she jumped into action, he did too. His sharply shod hooves dug deep into the splintering wood, sharp shards of wood bouncing against his face and legs. He could feel small bits of blood drip from where they nicked, but if it was anything like the last time this happened, those would heal in no time. He noticed her hesitate when he mentioned getting closer to to the edge of the falling bridge, but followed suit when she skirted off anyways. The wood here seemed to be a little more sturdy, lacking the wear from constant travel. They still had the possibility of falling off, though, so now was not the time to relax.
The bridge continued to moan and groan under their weight, but held just long enough for Muiris to watch Ezmeralda jump free of its rubble. Gritting his teeth, he dug his hooves into the falling shambles, leaping for the edge just as his friend had. His stomach slammed into the edge of the cliff as he fell just a mere few feet short, his spiked horse shoes coming in handy as he dug them into the ground to keep him from sliding. With a grunt, he threw his back legs into the side of the cliff, crawling up it and rolling onto the bank.
Thank Kaia for sturdy land.
His breath heaved as he coughed debris from his lungs, his legs shaking from his small climb. His gaze shifted to the edge of the cliff, watching as the last of the bridge disappeared into shambles at the bottom of the chasm. That was way too close. Let it be known, Muiris would never cross another damn bridge again.
It was a brief moment of success.
He turned his head to search for Ezmeralda, opening his mouth to speak, but the sound of a deafening roar shattered through his ears. His eyes widened, ears flattening against his neck as he slowly turned around. He couldnt see the bear, but he could feel it. All thanks to his blessing, he could feel each step the bear took as it charged their way, a rumble flowing through his bones. Each thud was getting stronger and stronger as it approached, shaking Muiris to his core. It he didnt know how to use his blessing before, now would be the time to learn.
His head whipped around as Ezmeralda shouted at him to leave, his brow furrowing and teeth gritting together. Did she really think he was going to let her stay here and die? No, he wasnt going anywhere.
"W-what? No way, you are in no shape to face the beast alone." He heaved, his breath yet to catch up with the rest of him. His hooves carried him to her side, concern for his friend washing over his features at the sound of the strain in her voice. He knew she could summon the animal, but could she control it? He wasnt going to risk it.
It was then that the bear broke the treeline, jumping to a slide at the pair with another deafening roar. It stood on its hind legs, saliva flinging from its lips as it called a challenge. Muiris's heart leapt in his throat, his weight shifting to his back hooves. He had fought plenty of bears in his life time.. well, only two, but two was plenty in his opinion.
He didnt have much time to think. The bear had already fallen back to all fours and charged. Time seemed to slow again, his mind fogging over by overthinking. He couldnt run. He couldnt leave Ezmeralda. He had to hold his ground.
His grip formed around the handle of his war hammer. The small, stone weapon wasnt much, it was at least something.
That was, until he felt the ground tremble again. His breath caught in his throat as he realized it was happening again. He wasnt trying, but his blessing was biting at the bit to be released. "Get back!" He shouted, scrambling out of the way as a large pillar of Earth shot from where he had been standing. A thud sounded from the other side of the makeshift wall; the bear crashing into it instead of onto its prey. Muiris's heart slammed against his chest as he finished pulling his weapon from his side.
That would have confused and thrown the bear off, but definitely would have not stopped it for long. Muiris couldnt pull his eyes from the spike in the Earth; the one he had somehow created. "C-can you run?" He stammered, gripping his hammer tightly.
All he needed was a clear shot and a well placed hit.

Ezmeralda | War-Forged | Herder
The deafening roar of the beast echoed off the mountain walls, and it sounded like each step it took was a small earthquake. With her eyes clamped shut, she could sense the beast draw power from her own emotions, growing stronger and more panicked the longer her blessing held its grip on it. The beast's roar was a familiar terror during the warmer times of year when the beasts weren't sleeping in their dens for the winter. The beast her out of control blessing had called forth was a bear and a big one at that.
Her shaking legs were the only motion in her body as she stood there. Her brows furrowed and created deep creases on her face. She had to concentrate. She had to calm herself down enough to be able to regain her control. If she wanted to get away from the bear alive, she would need to break their bond. Otherwise, it would simply chase her in circles around Onea until one of them eventually was caught or gave up, and Ezmeralda had the feeling that the bear wasn't going to give up such an easy meal. The sound of the bear growing closer and her rapid heartbeat inside of her chest, it was growing difficult to think of anything other than her own anxiety.
At the sound of Muiris's words, Ezmeralda couldn't look at him, feeling her guilt come crashing down on her. This was her fault. She should have listened to the all the warnings she had been given in her youth and separate herself completely from anything living. Due to her negligence, one of the very few horses that she truly cared about risked losing his life. "Please! I don't want to see you get hurt." She pleaded, fighting back the hot tears that threatened to spill down her cheeks. "I-I may be able to control it or break the bond. I-I just need more time."
More time was something that she didn't have however. Almost as soon as the words left her lips, the bear jumped from the treeline, skidding to a halt before standing on its hind legs. The roar that erupted from the bear's jaws sent a chill down Ezmeralda's spine. She suddenly felt focused, focusing her fear solely on the predator in front of them. He saw the bear's eyes sweep over Muiris to lock onto her. It almost seemed as though recognition glimmered in the beast's eyes as it dropped back down to all fours and charged straight at her.
As big as the bear was, it seemed to move at a lightning quick pace. Before Ezmeralda even had time to really think, the bear was feet away from them. 'Get back!' The paint mare heard her companion shout, but she certainly hadn't expected the events that occurred after his warning. A pillar of rock shot from the earth where Muiris had been standing only moments before, stopping the bear in its tracks. Her eyes widened in surprise at the sight, and for a split second, she felt a pulse of pride and happiness for him. He had been blessed! But the moment was short lived as the bear began regaining its strength, fighting to stand back on its feet.
Ezmeralda shook her head in defeat. "I-I can run, but its just going to follow me. I-I c-can't stop. My blessing is too s-strong for me." She stuttered out, trying to take a deep, calming breath but instead gasped for air. All of this was happening too fast for her to catch up and calm down. This was all much too dangerous and all her fault!
The bear finally rose back to its feet and gave them an angry growl. Now they'd really pissed it off.

M U I R I S ❅War-Forged Raider❅
Fate whispers to the Warrior "You cannot withstand the Storm" the Warrior whispers back "I am the Storm" His heart nearly broke when she begged for him to leave, his gaze finding her face and faltering when he saw the tears stinging her eyes. "I.. I cant.." He replied quietly, his voice wavering. She claimed that she needed more time, and more time he gave her.. kinda. He still wasnt sure how he had done it, but he found himself frozen briefly as time itself seemed to cease to exist. The bear struggled to find it's feet again, and Muiris took this time to breathe.
He pondered over her words carefully. If she couldnt break the bond.. he would have to kill it. His heart twinged at the thought, bringing him back to memories when his sire would take him hunting. His father claimed they had to kill a few animals- they had to keep up their strength. Muiris would watch as he took the lives of wolves or foxes, stripping them of their skulls or feet, leaving the rest to rot. He didnt even have the decency to take their pelts and use them for warmth.
He didnt like killing an animal if he didnt have to, but.. if he had to, he was ready.
Taking a deep breath, the stallion took a step back as the bear found more stable footing. "Ezzie, you're going to have to break the bond.. or control it, then, or im going to have to kill it." He spoke calmly, internally pulling himself together. Having two of them have a panic attack simply wouldnt work, now would it?
The bear finally found its footing, roaring once more, but louder this time. Angrier. It slammed its land into the rocky wall Muiris had created, pebbles falling from its paw. The roar had shaken Muiris to his bones, but he couldnt let it win. He was done letting the world around him win. He was tired of letting luck decide how he went. He was going to win, and he was going to chose to, dammit.
Kaia, please dont let me do anything stupid.
Dipping his head down, he quickly pressed his muzzle against his friend's cheek, but there was not enough time for words. The bear was already charging.
Flinging himself in front of Ezmeralda, Muiris reared with his hammer raised high above his head. He let out a war shout of his own, his eyes flashing with danger and teeth snapping. He advanced slowly, striking out his front hooves every chance he got in order to attempt to out intimidate the predator. It worked.. briefly. The bear skidded to a halt, and the two of them found themselves at a stand-still, glaring each other down with wild, blazing eyes.
The bear roared, Muiris roared back.
However, the bear's sights were not focused on the stallion before him. Sure, Muiris was a wild inconvenience, but his real desire was focused on the painted mare. She was in a state of weakness, a state of panic. She was easy prey.
The bear swiped at Muiris with claw stretched wide, causing the stallion to stumble out of the way and duck just in time for its claws to sweep right over his head. However, this also meant he was no longer standing guard in front of Ezmeralda. She was an open target.
Gritting his teeth together, Muiris pulled his hammer back, aiming carefully, and threw it, hopping it would hit its mark. If it hit right, hopefully it would at least knock the bear unconscious.

Ezmeralda | War-Forged | Herder
Ezmeralda didn't want for any of this to happen. The last thing she wanted was for Muiris to get hurt (or worse), and if he did, it would be all her fault. It was her stupid blessing that had brought this huge, angry bear upon them, and she was the one who was hurt and had brought him along in the first place. If she had just done as she had been warned and kept everyone at a safe distance, none of this would be happening. But no, her emotions and feelings had gotten the best of her.
She glanced over at the stallion standing protectively beside her, ready to fight a bear to protect her even if it meant possible death. As she pleaded with him to leave with tear stained eyes, she saw inner conflict in his reddish brown orbs. He needed to leave and get to safety. In all her years, she had never called forth anything so wildly angry and strong. Sure she had had cougars and polar bears stroll into camp, listening to the sound of her call, but they had never been so bloodthirsty. While she had thought it was kind of fun when she was younger, seeing the reactions of those around her made her like her blessing and herself less and less. The creatures that she had accidentally called for were chased out of camp, and she was treated like a ticking time-bomb that was ready to blow at any second. It was then that it dawned on her. The beasts played on her emotions. All those times in the past, she hadn't been so stressed and panicked. They had been just accidents on a normal day, and she had been easily able to break her bond with them and send them on their way.
Ezmeralda didn't know if it was the Raider side of him that wanted to stay and fight, or if it was just in his nature, or even if they were close enough that Muiris couldn't bear to leave her if the bear would very likely killed her. Her ears flicked toward Muiris as he spoke, and her gaze found his steady stare. She needed to break the bond or he was going to have to kill it. Those were their options. Ezmeralda's breath caught in her throat as the bear returned to its feet, swaying slightly as it regained its balance.
Her attention was focused on the predator in front of her, and she didn't see Muiris before she felt his warm muzzle press against her cold cheek before drawing away to stand in front of her, hammer ready to swing. From Muiris's touch to the time his hammer left his grip felt like everything was in slow motion. She heard the two roar angrily at each other, both ready for blood. She saw the bear's frustration as it swiped at Muiris to free the path to his real target: her. She clamped her eyes shut, almost feeling the bear's hot breath breathing down her neck. This was it. Ezmeralda took a deep breath, sending up a prayer to Kaia, and suddenly, she felt different. Her eyes opened to see the bear standing in front of her, Muiris's hammer laying at its feet. The bear lifted one paw gingerly and licked at its shoulder where the hammer had landed its blow. The fear that had clouded her mind before had subsided as she had accepted her fate. She had broken the bond.
The bear groaned quietly, and its brown eyes focused on her once more. Instead of the furious, panic it had been in before, it looked rather... confused. Ezmeralda fought back the tears in her eyes and pointed with her muzzle toward the forest. 'You may go.' The bear snorted, tossing its head before limping toward the safety of the trees.
Ezmeralda nearly collapsed from exhaustion and relief, but she quickly regained her footing on the rocky soil. The bond was broken, and no one had to die. A single tear created a river down the dust that covered her face, and she quickly wiped her face on her leg to keep Muiris from seeing. She wasn't supposed to be crying. She was supposed to be frustrated at herself, angry that she was the monster that everyone had told her she was. Taking a deep breath, she looked up, seeking Muiris. The guilt on her face was obvious as she looked at him, looking for any injuries that he may have sustained. She wrapped her tail around herself in insecurity. She wanted to run to him, to wrap herself around him and hug him, but she didn't. She stood still, waiting on his reaction now that they weren't in danger.

M U I R I S ❅War-Forged Raider❅
Fate whispers to the Warrior "You cannot withstand the Storm" the Warrior whispers back "I am the Storm" Muiris watched as his hammer missed; striking the bear on the shoulder and falling to the ground at his paws. Time slowed once more. He heard the hammer fall to the ground like a needle in an empty room. His gaze rose to Ezmeralda, his hooves ready to dig in and attack the bear from behind, but... he didnt. He found himself frozen, his breath stuck in his lungs. His steady gaze stayed fixated on Ezmeralda and the beast before her, his eyes flickering as the bare carefully licked where the hammer had struck.
Instead of an angry roar, the bear let out a confused grunt, his eyes cloudy and features painted with confusion. Muiris's muscles clenched as the bear turned and hobbled on its way, not giving the roan stallion a single glance before disappearing into the tree line. All that strength that had been holding the stallion before seemed to melt away as the bear faded out, his legs straining, but somehow still holding him up. He finally released his breath, a sigh of relief.
He hadnt wanted to kill the bear. He never did. Even all those times his father told him it was important and made him do it despite his begging to not, he had never grown used to it. He had killed so many equine on his raids, but this was different. The wildlife were innocent. They killed because they were hungry. They did not hold evil in their hearts like the enemy did.
His gaze shifted back to Ezmeralda, noticing the guilt washing over her features as she hid behind her long, fluffy tail. His face softened, his gaze faltering. He knew the feeling all to well, and wished he could take it upon himself so she didnt have to struggle. He slowly made his way over to her, sweeping his war hammer off the ground as he went and tucking it neatly to his side.
He paused in front of her for a moment, studying her features as he struggled to find something to say. His mind was dark, drawing a blank. Maybe it was too exhausted or was still trying to comprehend what had happened. However, he couldnt stop the pride from welling up in his chest. She had been under a lot of stress - more than he could ever wish on his worst enemy - and still managed to gain control; and both of them were walking away unscathed.
He couldnt stop the smile from breaking his lips at the thought, nor could he hold back his soft laugh as he grabbed his friend and dragged her into a hug, burying his muzzle into her thick mane. "We're a mess, Ezzie." He teased, taking in a soft breath and lingering on her scent. He paused only momentarily before pulling away, lowering her gaze to look her straight in the eye.
"Im proud of you, though." He said, pulling back his serious composure. "I.. I dont really know what just happened.." It had all happened way too fast. "But you were able to pull yourself together despite the chaos, and im proud. I really am." He nuzzled her cheek softly before tipping his head to have her follow.
"I think we've had enough stress for today. We can spend the night at my father's old cabin and continue on our way tomorrow, if youd like.." He offered. "Its only a few miles away and i think we both deserve a break."
He paused, glancing back toward his friend, eyebrow raised and ears flicked to the side. "Are you okay?"

Ezmeralda | War-Forged | Herder
As soon as it had happened, it all came to a stop. The only noise that she could hear was her own breathing and the whistling of the wind. It blew through her mane, tugging her long hair out of her face. She finally felt as though she could breathe easily instead of gasping like it was her last breath. The sudden serenity that surrounded them allowed her adrenaline and panic to drain from her body and left her feeling wobbly and numb. Never before had she been through such a stressful situation (or rather a series of stressful situations that led to one major catastrophe).
They were all alive and rather unscathed aside from a few new scratches from the splintering wood on the bridge. Even the bear had gotten to live albeit its shoulder would probably be pretty sore for quite awhile. She could tell that Muiris had been hesitant to throw his hammer at the bear in hopes to kill it. There were so many that would kill for no reason and without hesitation especially if it were an animal attacking them, but Muiris's hesitation to wound even a charging, angry bear increased her respect for him. Not many were that noble and kind.
As her thoughts shifted to Muiris, the weight of the world seemed to come crashing down on her. She was a ticking time-bomb, a monster with no control over her own power. It frightened even her to think of the destruction that she could cause and the lives that she could take with a simple lapse in self-control. 'It's my fault. I could have killed him.' She repeated over and over again inside of her mind, and she bit her lip as Muiris approached her, slinging his hammer back onto his side gracefully on his way to stand in front of her.
Her head swung low, and her eyes traveled to the ground where they stared at his hooves. She couldn't bare to look at him, knowing very well she'd probably bust out crying and babbling out apologies that he probably wouldn't even be able to understand over her sobbing. So she stood silently biting her lip, working up the courage to finally say, "I-I'm so sorry," in an almost inaudible voice. Ezmeralda nearly jumped out of her own skin as Muiris brought her toward him, wrapping her in a warm hug. Her brows narrowed slightly in confusion, but she couldn't hold back her soft laughter at his teasing statement. "We really are a mess, aren't we?" She joked back, finally hugging him back as her startled confusion disappeared with his laughter.
Her confusion returned, however, as he pulled away and continued speaking, a look of pride on his face. To say she was stunned was an understatement. Words seemed to fail her and left her mute even after he nuzzled her cheek and beckoned for her to follow him to a cabin that used to belong to his father that they could rest in. Ezmeralda remained planted in her place though like her legs had sprouted roots into the ground. Muiris turned back to look at her with a concerned expression, asking 'Are you okay?'
Ezmeralda blinked a few times, shaking her head slightly to clear away her bewilderment. "I-I'm okay. I just... I almost got us both killed and you're proud of me instead of being afraid? I mean I'm a total nervous wreck almost all the time, and my blessing is controlled through my emotions. It could happen again, and it very well will before I ever learn to control it. You're not afraid of being hurt or... worse?" She rambled, taking a deep breath after her small speech to catch her breath.
"You don't have to stick around if you don't want to, Muiris. I would completely understand if you'd rather leave and forget about all of this. Y-you wouldn't hurt my feelings if you wanted to go." She offered him a way out away from all of her unstable ways. She knew that he was much too nice to just run from her as fast as he could like many others had in the past, so she wanted to offer him a way that he would never have to think of her again if he didn't want to.

Fate whispers to the Warrior "You cannot withstand the Storm" the Warrior whispers back "I am the Storm" He had stopped when he noticed she wasnt following him, confusion twisting across his features, his brow pressed together. He swiveled on his hooves, lips pressed together as she started off in a small rant, his ears pressed to the side in brief defeat. Her pain radiated against him, his heart aching with every new words she said. He wished he could take it all away from her; the guilt, the pain, the fear. He would gladly put it upon his own shoulders if it meant seeing her smile, but that was something he just couldnt do. And he hated it.
Concern grew in his gaze as she continued, offering him an out, telling him it was okay to run away and never see her again. He knew the feeling so well, it was like looking into a mirror. Taking a shaky breath, he took a step forward. Being the emotional stallion he was, he was surprised he hadnt broken down into tears yet, especially from the hurt in her tone. Not only was the world on her shoulders, but it was on his as well.
"Ezmeralda.." He mumbled, trailing off as he struggled to find his words. She had asked why he wasnt afraid, when everyone else had been. Why wasnt he afraid? "I.." His wavering gaze grew serious as he took another step forward. "When i became a Raider, i took an oath to protect my herd. And when i say that, i mean to protect all of my herd, not just the ones who are "perfect" or dont have any struggles, because those sorts simply doesnt exist." He said calmly, taking in another deep breath. "It's my duty to protect everyone, from those who are too weak to work to those who simply need a second hand. Just because your blessing is unstable right now does not mean that you do not deserve to have your life protected. Why am i not afraid?" He paused for another breath. "I am, Ezmeralda, i truly am. Im afraid of losing you." He stopped, biting his tongue. Maybe he was just tired, but tears were already stinging the back of his eyes. He had lost too many who were close to him over the years, he just couldnt fathom the idea of losing one of his closest friends. His mother's death had hit him hard, his friends were the only ones who were keeping him going, whether they knew it or not. He just wouldnt be able to handle another heartbreak. "Im proud of you because despite you being surrounded by fear and stress, and.. whatever, you still managed to gain control and not completely lose yourself. You're not letting your blessing take control, even though you may feel like it is. That is a sign of true strength."
"..What im trying to tell you, is, if we all turned and ran the minute our hooves started shaking, we would simply not be able to live worthwhile lives." And now you're rambling. "Im not going anywhere, Ezzie. You stuck by my side even though i could have killed you, remember? Im going to do the same. I would never forgive myself if you got hurt.. or worse.. and i could have prevented it."
He knew she felt like a failure, and he wished he could change that. He wanted to tell her so many things, how she had saved him from a life of depression and self-loathing. How she had helped him see that he was not the only one suffering. How she had given him the strength to get back on his hooves and face the world; but.. he couldnt. He didnt know how it.
His tough demeanor finally broke, a lopsided smirk plastering itself across his lips. "Im sorry, Ezzie, but you're stuck with me, and there's absolutely nothing you can do about it."

Ezmeralda | War-Forged | Herder
As soon as the words left her mouth, she could see the worry and sadness twist his features, making his smile disappear and his brow create a deep crease on his face. She instantly wished she could take it back if it meant not doing this to him. Even with her words and offers that were only meant to help him seemed to hurt him instead. Oh gods, she really was a mess with a tinge of a screw-up. Seeing the way he looked down at her made her chest tighten with guilt and anxiety, and she turned her head to avoid eye contact. That would at least take care of her anxiety if she couldn't quite see him staring intently down at her.
Hearing him stepping closer and closer toward her, Ezmeralda took a deep breath, exhaling out of her nostrils before she looked at him. Their roles seemed to have flipped since their last meeting. Where Ezmeralda had tried to help Muiris get past his fear of hurting her, to trust her not to desert him because of his struggles, Muiris now stood ready to be a shoulder to cry on if she needed him to be as well as a protector that she hadn't even known she needed.
She listened to him talk, her brows stitched together with worry. His confession was soothing and reassuring. Ezmeralda found herself relaxing slowly listening to his calm tone, and the meaning of his words sunk in, making her insecurities grow quiet in her head. Did he really mean all of that? If she could smack herself, she would have at that thought. He had proven himself time and time again, and yet here she was doubting him, thinking that he would abandon her and their friendship because she was a little out of control. She felt terrible for even thinking it in the first place, but his thoughts and feelings were something that she needed to hear out loud. She had to hear it for herself or she would think they were made up ideas that her imagination had fabricated. 'Why am I not afraid?' She held her breath, waiting in anticipation for the answer to his own question. The words that followed were said quickly as if he were afraid of his voice cracking mid-sentence before he got the whole thing out. They brought a hint of a smile to her face though even though the faint sign of forming tears in his eyes made her feel like she would start crying too.
She let him finish speaking before finding the courage to talk, clearing her throat to make sure her voice didn't crack emotionally. "I-I'm afraid of losing you too. T-that was actually how I was able to control my blessing and send the bear on its way. I didn't want to lose you." Her words were sheepish but rung with truth. The fear of losing him had helped her regain control over her emotions as well as the bear. "They've all left before: the others who found out about my blessing. I thought you would do the same. I'm sorry for ever doubting you. You're honestly one of my closest friends, and I shouldn't have thought you were like the others. You've proven yourself over and over that I can trust you, but I still doubted you. I guess I'm just not used to having trustworthy friends."
The paint unicorn offered him a lopsided smile and shook her head playfully before she took a step toward him, reaching up to hug him around his withers. "You're so stubborn, Mui... but I really appreciate it." She released him from her hug with a chuckle. "I hope that you know that this means you're stuck with me as well. No matter what." Ezmeralda added, feeling herself blush lightly. Never before had she had someone to rely on (other than her sister of course). It felt strange not to have to be completely on her own, but it was also relieving to know that Muiris always had her back, and she would be sure to do the same for him.
"Did you mention something about a cabin before? I agree that we both deserve some rest." And maybe some better luck but that could wait for now.

Fate whispers to the Warrior "You cannot withstand the Storm" the Warrior whispers back "I am the Storm" He smiled softly at her response, his head dipping down ever so slightly. He never thought he would hear those words come from someone else's mouth. Im afraid of losing you. All his life, he had been used to running circled for others, and not getting much in return. Of course, Ezmeralda, Fox, and Mateo were exceptions to this, but.. it was still nice to actually hear the words reach his ears. His muzzle twitched as she apologized for not trusting him, his gaze dropping to his hooves. She didnt need to apologize. He understood. He understood what it was like to feel like everyone who claimed to be his friend were really just going to end up leaving.
He knew what it was like to feel alone.
"Dont worry, ive been there." He replied with a short nod. "I understand, and i dont blame you for it at all.. i just want you to know that i will never leave your side, no matter what gets thrown our way."
He picked his head up as she stepped forward to hug him, smirking at her comment and resting his head against her shoulder briefly until she pulled back away. "I wouldnt want it any other way." He chuckled in response, giving her a quick wink. Again with the winking- where did he even pick that up from? He nodded slowly as she mentioned the cabin, glancing over his shoulder and squinting against the sunlight.
"Yeah, its my dad's old hunting cabin.. I havent been there for a while, so its probably a mess, but it has a fire place and beds and.. It'll give us a break from having to sleep with one eye open, i guess." He replied, his old chipper tone returning.
In all reality, Muiris had full ability to move into the cabin if he wanted to. No one else lived there, since his father's other wives had taken off after he died. None of his siblings knew it even existed.. he had it all to himself if he wanted. He could hang up his tent and cold nights..
He glanced back toward Ezmeralda as he pointed his muzzle in the direction it was settled. "Only a few miles away, shouldnt take us long." He smiled. Maybe one day he'd take over the cozy home, but for now, he was content with his tent. The large cabin could get lonely at times when it was only him.
His gaze drifted down to his hooves as his mind flashed to the small wall of Earth that he had somehow created. He tipped his head in its direction, glancing at it with a furrowed brow. When would he be able to control.. that? He could just see himself trying to use it again and accidentally stab someone.. or himself.. His ears flicked toward his friend as he started leading the way.
"I.. did want to tell you, though.." He started, biting his lip. He remembered their conversation in his tent all those years ago, when he had confessed that he didnt believe the gods really existed; yet here he was now, blessed by one of them, and praying when he was in trouble. It was all still so strange for him. "When i was in Aodh, Kaia blessed me. I actually saw her, only for a few seconds." He continued. The words felt funny on his tongue. "Earth Manipulation, apparently, but i dont really know how to use it. It makes me feel more connected with the Earth, though.. For example, i can feel our steps more than one usually would. Each steps feels like a tiny earthquake."
He couldnt help but feel silly talking about his magic. Sure, calling animals to you could be plausible.. if a little stretched. But manipulating the actual Earth at his hooves? That was still odd to wrap his head around.

Ezmeralda | War-Forged | Herder
She felt a sense of relief now she had her questions answered and she had gotten something off of her check that had been there for quite some time. Not normally one for spilling her emotions out, she had thought it would be strange or make things weird between them for her to tell Muiris how much he truly meant to her, that she feared of the day that she may never see him again and that she never wished to see him hurt. Instead, it seemed to bring them closer. Muiris had always seemed to be her anchor in the storms of life with his steely assurance and comforting presence, but now she felt like she could trust him with anything, and she didn't have to fear his judgement on whatever she may say. Hearing him say that he would be there for her whether she liked or not, through whatever was thrown their way, made her heart swell with warmth and joy. He had proved it to her that he would do anything for her, even face an angry bear, and yet hearing him say those words himself was what finally made her believe.
Giving him a warm smile, she slowly curled her long tail away from herself, no longer feeling the need to hide. A chuckle escaped her at his quick wink, and a slight blush warmed her cheeks. It was kind of corny in a way, but his subtle, little winks got her every time! Flicking her ears forward, she listened to him talk about the cabin. Nodding her head, she spoke in her usual soft tone, "I don't mind if it's a little messy. I think a good night's rest in someplace we can rest peacefully will do us both some good." She assured him with a comforting smile.
He mentioned that the cabin was his father's old hunting cabin, and Ezmeralda found herself caught on those words. He had never talked about either of his parents to her, and she wondered if it was because he was no longer close with them or just didn't have a way of communicating with them for whatever reason. That brought about other curiosities into her thoughts. Her mind flashed to minutes before during her breakdown and the bear attack. Her eyes had been shut for a great duration of the fighting as she fought to control her blessing, but she had seen what Muiris had done. It was miraculous and unbelievable to the point that she had thought she had hallucinated it all despite the rocky wall that still stood as evidence, and she came quite close to pushing her wild imaginations to the back of her mind when his hesitant voice broke the silence.
Ezmeralda could see how odd the words felt to him as he spoke them, hearing the nervousness and hesitation as he continued on with his tale. She found herself smiling up at him even once he was finished speaking. "I'm glad for you, Mui. That's incredible." During their first meeting in that blizzard, he hadn't seemed sure that the gods even existed in the first place. It had seemed like she had told him of a dream when they had talked about her blessing from Kaia, and here he was now: blessed by the very same goddess and had even seen her firsthand. "M-maybe we can both practice our gifts some time. Somewhere away from steep cliffs and bridges." Ezmeralda offered sheepishly, chuckling softly at her added comment. Gods knew that they seemed to have the worst luck in all of Onea. The last thing they needed to do was practice their blessings where they could seriously hurt themselves.
Her gaze drifted to the sky where the sun was sliding down the sky, almost touching the tips of the mountains. Night would be falling soon, and the last thing she wanted was to get caught out in the opening in the dark. "The sun's starting to go down." Ezmeralda slowly walked in the direction that he had pointed toward, hoping that she was headed in the right direction. Granted that heading in the wrong direction probably wasn't the most embarrassing thing she'd ever do in front of him.

M U I R I S ❅War-Forged Raider❅
Fate whispers to the Warrior "You cannot withstand the Storm" the Warrior whispers back "I am the Storm" He nodded in agreement when she mentioned they both could do for a rest. It would feel nice to sleep inside for one, and not have to constantly wake up to check his surroundings or make sure no one was snooping around his camp. Not to mention, the fireplace always kept it perfectly warm and the bookcase was stacked with books of all kinds.. It truly was a good place for a vacation, even if it was a brief one. It still held memories of his parents, but he could still do his best to push them aside.
An ear flicked in her direction as she told him his new blessing was wonderful, a lopsided smile finding his lips. Maybe if he could figure out how to use it, it would be, but right now he was left in the dark. He shivered slightly at the thoughts, remembering how his hooves had seemed to plant before he had been able to make the earthy wall. How his bones had rattled and blood had run cold. He would have to remember that feelings, as the last thing he wanted to do was to accidentally hurt someone with it. Luckily enough for him, it seemed to work well when he needed it most.
He was pulled from his thoughts when the mare offered up practicing their blessings together, his gaze shifting in her direction with curiosity. "That would be wonderful." He replied, the let out a soft laugh. "Yeah, lets stick to flat lands and wide open spaces, im a little tired of this daredevil life we seem to be living." Knowing them, though, Muiris was sure they would still find a way to get themselves i trouble. It just seemed to be how their luck worked.
His gaze followed hers as she looked to the sky, the sun kissing the tops of the mountains in the distance. The shadows were growing longer, the spring air turning brisk and chilly. The last thing Muiris wanted to do was get them caught out at night, especially with the fresh scent of blood on their coats from their scrapes off the bridge. It wasnt much, but some predators could still smell that from miles away.
"Yeah." He replied to her comment about the sun, biting his lip as he followed along, making sure to keep her pace. Running and jumping off that bridge probably didnt do any good for that leg of hers, but he was sure they would be able to get to the cabin at least by night fall, and if not, only a little bit later. It always felt further away than it actually was.
Too exhausted to keep up a conversation, Muiris focused his energy on keeping tabs on their surroundings. The sounds of birds settling down for the night could be heard above them in the trees, accompanied by the far away cry of wolves as they rose from their slumber. The sky was soon painted in bright yellows and red, dark blues and purples taking over as the sun continued to wave farewell to Onea for the night.
Only a little while longer, and the sky was twinkling with stars.
It was then that the two finally made it to the cabin, its dark windows proving that no one was home, which Muiris had already assumed. Its dark wood was a little worn, but still held strong against Oneaian weather. Muiris made it to the door and pushed it open, the only thing creaking as it swung open with slight resistance. Muiris shuffled through the dark home, peering his eyes through the dark to make sure no one was hiding while at the same time digging for matches.
One, two, three, candles were lit, light slowly ebbing into the darkness of the empty cabin. Skins bears, wolves, foxes, and other animals hung on the walls or were used as rugs on the floor. A large rack of elk antlers was mounted above the fire place, which Muiris made his way over to light after the candles were set. A heavy book case, covered in dust, sat off to the right, heavily stocked with books of all kinds.
His desk set off under a large window, covered in maps, writings, and other papers, accompanied by a small painting of a blue roan unicorn mare - his mother - and a gruff looking, bay unicorn stallion - his father.
Yes, the cabin was certainly a mess.
"Make yourself at home." He offered with a grin, the soft orange hue of the candle light dancing against his coat.

Ezmeralda | War-Forged | Herder
While sleeping out in the open under the night sky was always refreshing, Ezmeralda did enjoy the peace that came with sleeping under a roof. You could lock the doors and close the windows to make sure intruders or predators didn't attack you in the middle of the night while you were asleep, and in Onea, predators and Cultists were always a problem it seemed. In the cold months, the predators were starving and would attack anything that moved if it meant possibly getting a meal, and the Cultists... well, they were always quite odd and bloodthirsty.
She couldn't tell what exactly Muiris thought of his new blessing. It was hard having something so new to you that you couldn't control. She knew what it was like to feel like you were a possible danger to others and know how frustrating it was not to be able to control it. It probably bothered her the most that its unpredictability and her inability to control her blessing meant that those she was close to could be in harm's way, but that just her more of a reason to fight to get stronger. Plus, practicing their blessings together gave them another reason to see each other, and Ezmeralda always enjoyed Muiris's company and looked forward to their times together... even if it seemed they ended up in some kind of trouble half the time. "Same here," she agreed with a quiet sigh, laughing softly. It wasn't like they were trying to have a daredevil lifestyle. It just sort of chose them! "W-we're pretty good daredevils though. We don't even have to try that hard to find something dangerous." Ezmeralda joked, hoping that he thought her silly joke was at least a little bit humorous. She wasn't one to normally tell jokes after all. She was way too self-conscious for that, but with him, she felt like she could be herself and laugh a little.
With the adrenaline flowing steadily out of her system, Ezmeralda found herself too tired to do anything but concentrate on keeping her legs moving. He had said that the cabin wasn't too far away, but with her aching leg and tired mind and body, she found herself hoping over every ridge or dip in the road that the cabin would be sitting there waiting. The sight of the sun setting was worth the walk though. Seeing the brilliant colors that washed over the sky and painted the mountains always seemed to heal her spirits no matter what had happened that day.
When they finally made it to the cabin, Ezmeralda hung back slightly as Muiris opened the door and walked inside. Her hooves slowly carried her in, practically dragging on the wood flooring of the home from her exhaustion, but as he went around the cabin lighting candles for light, her curiosity got the best of her. She investigated the impressive skins on the walls and floors of animals that she assumed his father had hunted. They were beautiful specimens. Her eyes scanned the furs on the walls and landed on a book case filled to the brim with books of different sizes. Walking over to them, Ezmeralda passed by a wooden desk where a small painting sat on one corner, placed carefully away from the strewn maps and other papers on the desk's surface. The painting was of a blue roan mare standing beside a bay stallion, both unicorns. Her green eyes studied the subjects' faces, seeing the tough-looking expression on the stallion's face and what she took as a soft-tenderness on the mare's face. Ezmeralda glanced up at Muiris, seeing the candle light flicker across his dark coat. She could see resemblance between the horses in the painting and the stallion standing in front of her, and while her mind buzzed with curiosity, she didn't want to open any can of worms or make Muiris feel uncomfortable if he didn't want to talk about his parents, so her attention returned on the bookshelf. "There's quite the collection of books here." She studied the spines of them carefully, reading the titles of each book. There was a wide variety of literature from nonfiction encyclopedia-type books all the way to famous fiction literature. "Do you like to read, Mui?"

Fate whispers to the Warrior "You cannot withstand the Storm" the Warrior whispers back "I am the Storm" He found himself chuckling softly at her joke, but he knew it was true. He was surprised the two of them were still standing after the happenings over just a few days. But such was life; it would be boring without it.
When they made it to the cabin, and Muiris had a chance to light everything up, he noticed her gaze lingering on the picture of his parents. His father looked so tough and dangerous, his brow pulled tight and ears pressed back; but his mother was happy, gazing up at him with love sparkling in her eyes and a smile on her face. Muiris never understood what she had seen in him, but now it was too late to ask. He could only assume it had been different before he came along.
He pulled his eyes away just as she did, hoping she didnt notice he had been staring as well.
His attention turned to the book shelf as hers did, his hooves following as she examined each one. Muiris blew a puff of dust off a couple collections, coughing softly as some of it managed to wiggle into his lungs. He nodded in agreement as she admired his collection; he had gathered quite a few over the years. His mother always made a point to bring back a book or two when she returned from her travels, and over time, those couple books here and there really added up. Some, of course, were his father's as well, as apparently his dad had been a huge reader too. Muiris struggled to believe this, though, as he had never seen the grumpy old man turn a page in his life.
His ears flicked as Ezmeralda asked if he liked to read, his lips parting in a smile. "Oh, i love to read." He replied, pulling a smaller book from the shelf and thumbing through the pages quickly. The words were fuzzy without his glasses, but that didnt stop him from enjoying the soft leather binding in his grip. "I learned to when i was really young from some Aodhian noble, actually, as funny as that is. She found me wandering the markets while my mother was with her stand and decided that it would be best for me to be studying, not playing in streets." He chuckled with a shrug, setting the book back in its place. Now that he thought about it, he couldnt even remember that old mare's name; but his mother sure had appreciated her keeping him out of trouble while she was busy.
"I havent been able to stop since. It's a nice escape from this cold world." He added with a small nod. Now that he thought about it, he hadnt picked up a book in ages. Of course, he had been so busy, but he used to always be able to find time to at least fit in a couple chapters before he slept each night.
"What about you?" He asked, shaking dust from his muzzle and glancing in the direction of his painted friend. He couldnt believe that she had much time for reading either, being a herder and all, but it was worth a shot.

Ezmeralda | War-Forged | Herder
She hadn't noticed that his eyes had also been lingering on the painting of his parents that sat carefully on the desk that Ezmeralda assumed belonged to his father. It was a relief to her that he hadn't seemed to notice her curious studying of the painting either. She couldn't help but think of why Muiris didn't speak of them much other than a few hints here and there that they had been in his life, but then her mind wandered to her own relationship with her parents (or rather the lack thereof since their passing). She hardly ever talked about them especially not her father. The two of them hadn't been as close as her and her mother had been. After all, her mother's prayers to Kaia had given Ezmeralda the rare opportunity of a god to see favor in her even before birth. Even thinking of her then brought a pang of sorrow to her heart. Perhaps that was why Muiris never spoke of them; he missed them.
On a lighter note, her attention turned to the mass of books on the shelves of the bookcase. Some of them had obvious wear on their spines from years of being read over and over again. It brought a warm feeling to her heart that only imagining someone pouring over the pages of the story within those pages could do. It made her remember the times that she had done so as a little girl when she had had the time for such things as books. As a herder that was constantly on the move from place to place, carrying books with you and having the time to read them weren't necessarily realistic.
She listened intently to Muiris's answer, watching as he pulled a smaller book from the shelf and flipped quickly through the pages. A smile fell on her features, imagining him as a little colt learning to read from an Aodhian noble. What an opportunity to have learned from someone from Aodh though! "That's incredible. My mother was the one to teach me to read which, now that I think about it, surprises me. Herders aren't exactly known for being incredibly scholarly, but I suppose she knew it could be important someday." She said with a fond smile before returning her mind back to the stallion that stood beside her.
Ezmeralda nodded in agreement with his words. Books were certainly escapes from the harshness that was reality. It allowed one to enter an unknown realm and hide away from their troubles even only for a little while, and for her, it allowed her to focus on something else other than her seemingly constant worries. Books were completely worth it in the end just to relax and enjoy a good story every now and again.
"I enjoy reading when I have the time to. I have a small collection of books that I'd like to read someday at my family's summer cottage that I pick through while I'm there, but I usually have at least one book in my satchel to read with the time that I have between work and sleep." The unicorn mare explained, looking dreamily at the bindings of the books before her. Something about just the covers seemed to intrigue and calm her anxieties.
Her green eyes wandered around the rest of the room that they were in, eventually settling on the unlit fireplace whose bricks were covered with a thin layer of dust like the rest of the cabin. "D-do you need any help getting firewood for the fireplace? I can help carry some." She offered, turning her head to look back at the dark roan unicorn.

M U I R I S ❅War-Forged Raider❅
Fate whispers to the Warrior "You cannot withstand the Storm" the Warrior whispers back "I am the Storm" He smiled softly as she mentioned that her mother had been the one to teach her how to read. He couldnt help but wish, sometimes, that his mother had been the one to do so for him as well. That would just add to the small collection of memories he had with her; but he was grateful for the old Aodhian who have taken it upon herself to teach him, even if he was just a stranger kid lost in the streets. His mother had continued to help him grow, but the noble Lady was the one who had planted the love for reading in his mind. She had been the one who had made it all possible.
"I wish more had the same mindset as your mother had." He replied with a slow nod. There werent many War-Forged who thought reading was as important as training their asses off every day; at least in what he had seen. Reading was the gateway to creativity, to broader minds. He sighed softly at the thought. There were many in the herd that could benefit from that, he was sure.
It did strike his interest when she mentioned her mother. He knew that she had passed - well, both of her parents had, - but other than that, he did not know much about her. Ezmeralda did not speak of her, or her father, all that often. He couldnt blame her, though. While Muiris could speak and dream for hours about his mother, he always found himself drawing a blank when it came to his sire. He always wondered what it was like when others spoke so highly of their fathers; stars in their eyes and love in their tone. While Muiris still.. loved his father, it certainly wasnt anything compared to how he felt about his dam.
Shaking his head, he pulled himself from that thought. He would have to tell his friend eventually; he had promised to tell her about his trip, after all.
"Well, feel free to borrow a few if you'd like." He chirped with a grin, gazing over the spines of his books; some old and worn, some new and hardly touched. "They dont get nearly enough attention as they use to." His lips pressed together at this thought; it was true. He had been so busy lately, he hadnt even finished a single book within the past few months. It was a depressing thought, to say the least.
His gaze wandered toward the empty fire place as hers did, his ears flicking forward as a chilly night air breeze drifted through a crack in the window. His skin pricked at the cold, a small shiver running down his spine. Yes, firewood would be great.
The stallion nodded, a grin playing across his features. "Sure." He replied softly, tipping his head back to the door. "I like to keep a stack going in the back, just cause ive had enough winter nights without firewood and regretted it terribly." He added with a chuckle, his hooves thumping across the old wood floor as he led the way back outside.
The moonlight shone through the treetops, scattering dancing shadows upon the ground as the breeze rustled the leaves above. The stack of firewood was stacked up against the side of the cabin, neat on one end, and a little more messy toward the end, as if some of it had tumbled down. The stallion quickly shoved some of the wood back to where it belonged before gathering some up with a quick flick of his mind. "I think just one trip with the both of us will do." He explained, stepping aside so Ezmeralda could grab some for herself. "It warms up pretty fast in such a small space."
He turned to return back to the cabin, pointing with his muzzle to a small mat beside the fireplace. "We'll stack extras there and just add to it when we need to." He said as he tossed a few logs into the pit, grabbing for the matches on the mantle and tossing a few, lit with small flames, onto the pile of wood. It only took a few moments before the fire had set, blazing before them and dancing warm colors on their pelts.

Ezmeralda | War-Forged | Herder
Ezmeralda nodded at his reply. She was still fond of those memories with her mother as the older mare had taught her how to sound out the words on the weathered pages. She had always been so encouraging, telling her that she was doing such a great job even when she was stuttering out words to string out almost non-understandable sentences. Now as an adult, she wished desperately that she could hear her mother's encouraging voice even just one last time. Maybe that would be enough to give her the confidence that she needed.
She wasn't entirely sure why her mother had thought that teaching her daughter how to read would be more vital than survival skills or learning how to defend herself, but Ezmeralda cherished her skill to read. It allowed her to depart this world and enter another that seemed much more safe and comforting than her own world. It was full of adventure and love, and she was able to learn not only about the characters in the story but also herself in an odd way. She found things in common that she shared with the protagonists of the books that she read, and it gave her hope that one day, just maybe, she could achieve the same level of greatness that they had. "I wish so too. My mother was viewed as a peculiar mare among the War-Forged, but the lessons that she taught me were certainly valuable."
It was true that Ezmeralda spoke little of both of her parents. She had never really grown close to her father, though she had been sad and missed him when he had died in that terrible accident with her mother. The loss of her mother had been the most tragic. It felt like a part of herself had died along with her, the part that knew how to be herself and be content with who she was. That was why she talked so little about her. The memory of her hurt and brought back that painful day that she and her sister had sat beside those rocks from the avalanche that had taken their parents from them. With Muiris though, she felt like she could say at least little things about her. Nothing that would upset her too greatly, but enough for him to know a bit more about her mother.
She responded to his grin with one of her own, scanning the shelves. Perhaps a good book would do her spirits some good and calm her down some more after their eventful past few days. Her eyes traveled over the red-colored novel whose title was written in faint gold script on the cover and spine. Lifting it off the shelf carefully, Ezmeralda studied it, interest sparking in her eyes. "May I borrow this one? Maybe this injured leg of mine isn't all bad after all. It could lead to some more reading time," she joked, chuckling lightly.
Following Muiris out into the night once more, the cold wing sent a shiver running down her spine, and her tail curled instinctively around her to keep her warm. She followed him to the back of the cabin where he had mentioned a pile of firewood would be. Her eyes carefully scanned the darkness for any signs of movement, still feeling a little on edge from earlier. She picked up some of the wood after Muiris had taken his share and offered him a nod of her head. "Y-yeah, it shouldn't take too much wood." The pink-horned mare agreed as they walked back into the dimly lit cabin.
She sat down on a fabric chair that sat next to the fire after placing her small stack of firewood on the place on the floor that Muiris had indicated. Her muscles finally felt like they could relax once the fire was going, causing light to dance across their pelts and warm the small cabin. She felt her eyelids droop sleepily and finally feeling exhausted after all of the happenings the past few days had thrown at them, but she fought to keep them open until she was sure that both of them were ready to fall asleep. "Thank you, Mui." Ezmeralda muttered, suppressing a yawn as she gave him a warm smile.

M U I R I S ❅War-Forged Raider❅
Fate whispers to the Warrior "You cannot withstand the Storm" the Warrior whispers back "I am the Storm" His eyes darted to the book she pulled down, his gaze drifting over it before nodding. "Of course." He replied with a grin, a small chuckle following at her joke. "That's a good one." He confirmed. Once they got back inside and the fire was roaring before them, the large stallion finally felt as though he could relax. His hooves were aching, but in a good way. In the way that meant they had worked hard and were still alive to tell the tail. His muscles protested as he gracefully flopped down into a chair across from his friend, stretching his legs before curling them up onto the chair with him. It was a rather odd fit, with one of his back legs dangling off the edge and his two front swung over the arm rest, but it was comfortable, none the less.
The warmth from the flickering fire combined with the cool breeze coming from the window created the perfect temperature inside the small cabin. He found himself holding back a yawn as he finally relaxed, the events from the past few days crashing against him. He hadnt slept well since his time in Aodh, though he felt that maybe he could now.. He had Ezmeralda with him and he knew she was safe, and he was in his father's cabin, so he knew he would be safe for the night. Maybe, just maybe, he would be able to grab a few hours of sleep.
His ears flicked at the sound of her soft voice, indicating that she was getting tired as well. A dumb smile crossed his lips as his gaze found the floor. "You're welcome." He replied, a little sheepishly. He wasnt used to being thanked, and while it was a wonderful feeling, it was still odd. He was used to a rather thankless life, but it still felt good to hear it every now and then.
He found his eyes dropping as he stared into the fire, the light dancing before his gaze and straining his eyes as they tried to keep up. Shaking his head softly, his long forelock bounced across his forehead. "Whenever you're ready, the bedroom is through that door." He offered, pulling his attention away from the dancing flame and nudging his muzzle toward one of the only doors in the small cabin. The other door across the hallway from it was a closet, and the other was his father's weapons room. Muiris had turned it into a supply room of sorts, stacking anything he didnt need to carry around with him everywhere or whatever didnt fit in his tent in that room. Basically, it was a huge mess, and he always kept that door closed.
"O-only if you want to, though, i just figured it would be more comfortable than sleeping out here." He added quickly, not wanting to seem like he was rushing her. "Either way, I'll stay out here to keep an eye on the fire. Dont want us waking up in flames." He muttered, giving a soft chuckle as he dipping his gaze away and tried to stop yet another yawn.

Ezmeralda | War-Forged | Herder
Ezmeralda grinned fondly as Muiris agreed to let her borrow the book that she had picked, and she carefully tucked it into the satchel that hung around her shoulders for safe keeping. With her injured leg needing some rest, hopefully she would have more time to read and return the book back to him in a timely manner. "I can't wait to start it. Hopefully I can return it to you soon, so you don't miss it too much." She spoke gratefully, wondering what wondrous tale laid within those pages. Her ears twitched at Muiris's words, a smile flashing across her face. If he thought it was good, she was sure that she would enjoy it. It was also pretty exciting, in her mind, to read something that Muiris liked himself. Maybe it would give her more insight into Mui's thoughts and figure out more things that he liked other than what she already knew about him. It was a thought that made her wish to flop down in front of that fireplace right then and there and try her hardest to get through at least the first few chapters before she inevitably fell asleep.
The paint unicorn shifted in the chair that she had chosen, curling up into a smaller ball to fit all of herself on the small piece of furniture. She curled her tail around her hindquarters to keep herself warm against the cool, pleasant breeze that blew through the open window. Along with the heat of the flames crackling quietly beside them, the feeling of the air outside falling on her pelt created the perfect atmosphere. She took a deep breath and slowly breathed it back out through her nostrils. She finally felt at peace. There was a roof over her head, and a fire in the cabin's fireplace. The thought of her rather uncontrollable blessing would haunt her dreams and keep her from sleeping properly for a while, but maybe knowing that Muiris was safe here with her and the comfort of the cabin would allow her to get some rest.
Her eyes followed his gaze to the bedroom, and she nodded her head rather sleepily. She felt her eyelids droop as if weighed down by weights, but she forced them back open again. Falling asleep out here after he had just told her where the beds were would be quite embarrassing (though, when she thought about it, it probably wasn't the most embarrassing thing that Muiris had witnessed from her). A soft chuckle escaped her at his soft mutter and nodded her head. With their luck, they'd probably get a good night's rest and wake up to the whole cabin in flames. "I appreciate that, Muiris. I think I'm going to head off to sleep. All that excitement today completely exhausted me." Ezmeralda chuckled, rising from her place on the chair and making her way to the bedroom on stiff legs. "L-let me know if you want to get some sleep, and I can come watch the fire." She offered, turning to give the roan stallion a tired smile.
"Goodnight, Muiris."

M U I R I S ❅War-Forged Raider❅
Fate whispers to the Warrior "You cannot withstand the Storm" the Warrior whispers back "I am the Storm" The stallion watched as his friend pulled herself to her hooves, his eyes blinking slowly before he shook the sleep from his head. "I dont blame you." He chuckled, turning his gaze back toward the fire. He was grateful for finally getting the chance to have a good night sleep, and was at peace knowing that Ezmeralda was safe for the night as well. He gave her a nod as she mentioned that she could come to watch the fire next, but he had no intention of waking her up after a day like they had. He was used to going days on end without sleep; she was injured and needed her rest. He kept those thoughts to himself, though, only speaking once more when she uttered goodnight.
"Sleep well." He replied with a small grin, turning his head to glance at her as she disappeared into the bedroom. Once she was gone, he turned back to look to the fire, his messy hair shifting softly against his coat from the outside breeze. The wind seemed to be picking up.
With a grunt, he pulled himself off his spot on the chair with protesting muscles, wandering to the window and pulling it closed, listening to the soft click of the lock as it was secured. His eyes wandered down to his desk, candlelight illuminating the picture of his parents, along with the map he had used to get to Valore and the many letters he had started to his mother, but never finished. His brow furrowed as he grabbed the old papers and crumbled them up with the soft red glow of his mind, stepping toward the fire and tossing them in. The fire jumped, lapping at its new food, small sparks jumping before the stallion and reflecting off his eyes with small sparkles.
Just that little act had given him.. relief. He no longer had his plans that had lead him to a crushing defeat. He no longer had unwritten letters. He no longer had loose ends. A soft sigh left his lips as he pulled a pillow from the chair, laying down before the fire and closing his eyes slowly, shifting only when the heat upon his face was too much to bear.
Now, maybe he could move on. Maybe he could build up the courage to tell the mare of his dreams how he really felt. Maybe he could live for more than his work. Recent events had taught him that life is truly short, and with how his luck was rolling, he'd might as well take advantage of it when he had the chance.
The stallion sucked in a deep breath through flared nostrils and tucked his head against the pillow, his body falling limp as his muscles finally got the chance to relax.
Maybe, just maybe.
