ADONIS He was stressed the fuck out.
Earlier, Yeshua had been called to a meeting with the Sultan and Donny had been reluctant to let him go. He knew his partner's job was important to the herd, especially now with Aodh throwing a fit over the broken deal, but he didn't wish to be left in the dark. Donny almost begged Yeshua to take him along, but such wishes were kept silent. He knew his place was not in politics, but his heart yearned to be beside his love and give him (and the Sultan) as much support as possible.
It was with a fleeting kiss the two separated, and Adonis watched him leave, his heart fluttering with anxiety over the possible outcomes of this meeting. It was obvious that Donny did not like Aodh. After the events that had happened months ago, who could blame him? So many innocent people carted off to a life of servitude just for food that Aodh had plenty to share. How many glares had he sent to the Ambassador while her back was turned? He lost count.
He sighed, remembering where he was and forcing himself to return to his surroundings. Osprey had assigned him and a few others to watch over the heavily pregnant Wise Man, and Donny was glad. Not only was he ready to usher new life into the world, but he needed a distraction. He glanced back to where Yeshua had gone to meet with the others, feeling his chest tighten with worry. Yeah, he really needed a damn distraction.
His stormy blue gaze traveled over the horses in the small group, from Salvatore and his daughter to Donny's nephew and apprentice quietly standing together. There was another medicine horse in the group whom he hadn't had the pleasure to be acquainted with yet, but there was plenty of time for greetings to go around.
With a soft smile gracing his face, he turned to the colts near him, his heart full of love for both of them. Idris, his newest apprentice, had come to him in a time of need when the poor child had fallen. After being patched up, Donny found that the kid had picked up a habit of following him home. Idris was quite young to be an apprentice, but Donny knew that Alya was looking out for him. She must have something good planned for him to start training so early.
Noatak, his nephew through Osprey and Abram (Yeshua's brother), was a blessing from Alya herself. Taken in after his mother passed on Seroran soil, Donny was more than happy that the colt was finding his way into everyone's hearts in Sedo.
He lowered his head to both their heights, offering each a loving nudge. "Look after each other," he instructed softly, glancing at Idris for they were the eldest. Turning from them, he gave a nod to the other two adults in the group, making his way to the mare resting by the lake's waters. Adonis couldn't say he knew Adhara well, but he was more than happy to help her going through labor.
"How are you feeling?" He greeted her, his voice quiet to not disturb the peace. "Do you need anything?"

Idris Seroran Apprentice
They could sense some of the tension in the air. Idris's opinion of Aodh was mixed and malleable; they had been told to fear and avoid it, for the herd had no qualms with slavery and may have even taken pride in it. Their dear mother warned with tales of her travels in her days as a wanderer, sharing the story of a stallion whom she witnessed being snatched by slavers in the Vastlands.
Now, the idea of slavery was justifiable enough for Idris to dislike the fire-worshippers, but apart from that, they didn't really know that much about them. In the very few instances that Idris had the luck (or misfortune,) of seeing one on the steps of Osulas, they seemed to come off as arrogant, and flamboyant with their bridles crowded with gemstones. Not Idris's sense of style, but should style alone be the reason they dislike them?
No, the reason was obvious. The sultan had been summoned to deal with Aodhian ambassadors, whom were throwing a fit over ...something (They had no clue what,) and in the meantime, their mentor and another fellow Medicine Horse had been assigned with the task of watching over the pregnant wiseman Adhara. Somewhere between the tension that they had started to pick up, and the heat radiating from Sedo's sun, Idris could feel an underlying layer of anxiety festering deep within them. A part of them were very hopeful that the wiseman would be well and would not foal today--mostly because they've never even witnessed a foal being born. Their parents often sheltered them whenever a mare gave birth in their nomadic group, and they weren't sure if they were ready to see it for the first time.
Suck it up and deal with it, perhaps. As a medicine horse in training, they would have to witness it at some point. Idris was situated beside Noatak, the younger foal whom they felt was amiable enough to be in their company. Not many foals had this honor, but the adopted son of Osprey and Abram was a quiet one; quiet enough that he seemed tolerant of Idris and their typical silence. Patiently the leggy colt waited, legs tucked beneath their belly to protect it from the hot sand, as they waited for their mentor's return. At last a patch of blue feathers and silver fur finally appearing from the shrubless hill prompted Idris to rise to their feet.
They flicked their tail, one hoof pressing hard into the dirt in some subtle attempt to quell their own anxiety. But What shown on their face was a stoic look, eyes fixated intently on their mentor, maintaining that gentle facade of precociousness that they often maintained. It only faded into a softened smile at Donny's greeting, and Idris swished their ears forward and nodded contently.
As far as they knew, neither they nor Noatak were headed anywhere. As much as Idris wanted to avoid the situation if a foal was to be born, well, this was a step they would have to take if they were going to contribute to the herd the way they wanted. And nor did they want to leave Noatak by himself, either.

AdharaI know I'll wither so peel away the bark Because nothing grows when it is dark In spite of all my fears, I can see it all so clear I see it all so clearThe mare's sides heaved softly as the child within her stirred. Whoever this baby was to be when they grew up, one thing was for sure - they were going to be a fighter. Addie smiled at the thought, remembering her own childhood alongside Osprey and and Abram, knowing that this child would have the most wonderful family in all of Hireath. The pair would make such amazing parents, and though she longed for a family all her own one day, she was glad to be a surrogate for such dear friends.
She wondered who the baby would look like. Would it take after her at all? Would they have wings like her and Osprey? Or would they be an earth dweller like Abram? Would they have a spotty hide, or dapples? The possibilities were endless, and Adhara couldn't help but dwell on them. Wondering what form the little life within her would take helped block out the pain as her contractions started.
Adhara was pulled from her thoughts as the voice of a young stallion gently broke the silence. "How are you feeling? Do you need anything?" Looking up, she realized the voice belonged to the young medicine horse, Adonis. She didn't know him incredibly well, but the wiseman was confident in his abilities.
"I'm feeling well enough considering the circumstances, I think." She smiled, wincing slightly as the foal kicked hard, almost as if fighting to escape. "I've never actually done this before, so it's a whole new experience." She chuckled softly, her gaze shifting to the apprentice at Adonis's side momentarily. "I'm sure everything will be fine, though I will be the first to admit, this is not the most comfortable experience." She winced again as her muscles contracted. "I just hope this baby can wait long enough for their parents to get back. I'd hate for Osprey and Abram to miss the birth of their child." Adhara sighed softly as the pain subsided once more. "But if I'm being honest, this little one seems rather impatient and ready to see the world."

Eyrin | Medicine horse
Eyrin was nerveous. He was very very nerveous. You could tell by the flicking of his ears and the glances he kept giving Adhara. It was as if he expected the mare to give birth right on the spot. And he kinda did. The foal stirring in Adhara's body did not go unnoticed by the young stallion, her flanks rippling with the teltale movements of the life that lay within her belly. He nodded as she answered Adonis. The new life seemed excited to see the light of day. On one hand Eyrin felt extremely proud that he was somehow trusted enough to look over their leader's child to be and their wise man who caried them. On the other he was felt like fainting at the tought of anything going wrong while he was left to watch over them. That was not to mention why he was here, the fact Aodhians had come to their land. That alone, knowing they had gone back on a deal with them, was enough to give any horse the shakes. Not that he was unhappy with his herd backing out. He had been disgusted by the fact they had to turn in Vagbonds to begin with. His eyes wandered towards little Noatak. To think such a sweet innocent foal had almost ended up a slave. To know many innocents in fact had in the short period they had honoured their arragement in order to survive. It made him sick. It was just incredibly wrong even if it was to keep their herd. He was beyond grateful that by some miracle Ismael had shown up when he did, leading them towards the oasis that was their salvation. He still thanked the gods for it.
But now they had this place and new life was on it's way. It felt unreal and a small smile formed on his lips as his eyes traveled from Noatak to Adhara's belly and eventually came to rest on Saleen. She had been the first foal he had personally helped deliver. He had been overworried about his friend Io thourough almost the whole two months of her pregnancy. That expierence was soon trippeled as his own mother gave birth to twins, making him a proud older brother. That did not mean that he wasn't still nervous though. He blinked his eyes in a friendly manner at Salvatore before he too adressed their wise man. "If there is anything you are in need of, please tell. We are here to be of service." He gave her a polite smile, eyes locking onto Adonis and Idris next. He decided some light conversation would probably lighten the mood.
"Will this be your first time watching your mentor deliver a foal if it were to happen? You are quite fortunate, Adonis, to be blessed with an apprentice."

Noatak
Fledgling
Noatak did not understand why he could not come with his fathers. They were his life, his reason for being and to be separated from them like this? It was in a way painful for the young colt. When since his birth, it was so easy for his to run to them if things got scary, or if he longed for affection all he had to do was run and he'd find them. But now? Today? He couldn't see them, they have escaped from his eyesight and it made his heart ache for them. Noatak hummed gently when he was left to Uncle Donny and his apprentice Idris. He liked them, well loved them. They were family, but still they were not his father's. Ears bent back as he nestled neatly next to Idris, remaining as silent as ever. Not allowing words to escape his paled lips. Perhaps he was too lost in his own thoughts, that he did not notice Uncle Donny approaching, until he felt the movement of Idris. Head lifted and a soft smile beamed on his face seeing Uncle Donny, while they were not his fathers, Uncle Donny was still good and seeing them set them at peace. A faint humming was heard from him, it was sfot and gentle and ended quickly.
Though everyone was looking to the mare on the ground, and it only made his ears pin back, but oh not from jealously. He was growing nervous. Everyone seemed on edge and he even at a young age could pick up on such small signals. He listened to the mare speak of a baby wiggling in her stomach and he was fearful, never experience such things, he grew worried. What would come, how do babies leave the belly? Did he leave one of his fathers tummy? If so it must be alright? it must not be to bad? But every wince he saw, only doubled his worries. Noatak gulped lightly as he scanned the horizon almost hoping to see his fathers out there and they could quiet his worry and fear. A mere kiss, a gentle nudge, he needed some sort of reassurance.

SALVATORE Seroran Iron Hoof
There was no comprehending why the Sultan chose to set off on a long, potentially dangerous trip to Aodh with no supervision from any Iron Hooves. Unfortunately, he was not in a place where he could question the idea, so he just put the frustration into a bottle and sealed it up tight. With two curled ears pinned flat against his skull, he stood silently, as respectably close to Adhara as possible. If he were not to be guarding the Sultan, he would guard whatever it was that came closest, and in this case it was Osprey's young son Noatak, and the Wise Man, heavy with the life of a foal new foal. Multitasking to the best of his ability, his eyes skimmed across the other five horses who joined him at the lake that day, one of which was his own daughter Saleen, not too much younger than Noatak. Full to the brim with energy (she was always so hyper early in the morning, much to the Iron Hoof's dismay, though he was used to rising early anyhow), marching in the shallows of the lake and pouncing on the minnows in the crystal-like water below.
The bright red stallion cracked a small smile as he watched his daughter entertain herself. She reminded him so much of his younger self, with never ending vigor. In the back of his mind he really felt for Osprey; he already had a son so young in age and he would soon be expecting another - any day now. He already had his hands full, but the Sultan could handle so much; two foals would surely be the least of his worries.
One ear pricked as the medicine horses approached to check on Adhara, ensuring she was comfortable. Salvatore knew very little about being a doctor, but he knew from Io's experience that being this heavily pregnant was definitely not comfortable, and there was little one could do to help it. He gave a nonchalant nod toward Eyrin upon receiving eye contact; he knew the young horse was good at his job given how smoothly and without fuss his daughter's birth went. And though Salvatore had never personally became acquainted with Adonis, he had heard good things about the man's work, and as he was the mate of Abram's brother, there was not a worry in Salvatore's mind.
He couldn't help himself from worrying about the little pegasus colt, though. Clearly, the boy was distressed with the lack of his fathers' presence, and Salvatore surely didn't blame him. He lowered his head to reach the foal's level, and spoke softly. "Chin up, little man," and once the foal made eye contact, he continued: "your daddies will be home in no time, don't sweat it." He raised his head and quickly turned his gaze toward his daughter, who was still clearly oblivious of the world around her yet safe enough that she didn't need to be discouraged. He turned back to face the colt. "Any trouble, Sal's got your back. Just like I've got your daddy's. O.K.?" He did his best to reassure the fledgeling, giving him a quick wink as he waited for his O.K. in return.

Idris Seroran Apprentice
While their mentor continued to make his way to the pregnant wiseman, Idris, debating whether to follow or stay put, stared at the red soil in thought. Their soft little hooves were still kneading into the soil anxiously, trying to free themselves of the tension slowly burrowing its way under the composed layer of skin covering it. Thankfully it seemed they could empathize with the younger colt by their side; they heard Noatak gulp and saw his ears flick back, and the bloody bay warrior, Salvatore, confirmed his nervousness. Idris, understandingly, squeezed their blue eyes slightly and looked upon Noatak in sympathy.
He had good reasons to be nervous. Idris knew; they would be just as anxious if their parents were sent to handle some important dilemma without them. They didn't know the potential severity of the situation the sultan and his bondmate were handling but they guessed it had to be important with Aodh involved. Perhaps it explained why there was an Iron Hoof among them, as well. Idris? Well, they were nervous because of what they might eventually have to witness.
They turn their attention to Eyrin, the young medicine horse. The colt could have sworn he had read their mind; for he had asked the very question that had been plaguing it for a while now. Idris nodded curtly, lips pursing into a crooked frown in their uncertainty. The only faintest amount of reassurance from Eyrin's words showed in the form in a glance upwards, even as they kept their head tilted down.
Seeing as Noatak had the watchful eyes of Salvatore over him, Idris decided to briefly excuse themselves, and make their way over to their mentor as an able apprentice should. They slid under and out from the blue plumage of Adonis's wing to make their presence better known, stopping at his side and looking up at him diligently.
Idris offered bright eyes and a cant of the head, as if to ask, 'is there anything you might need?'

NoatakFledgling
A voice of another filled his ears as he seemed so lost within his own mind, of seeking the horizon he did not notice the approaching equine that had sauntered his way over. At the sounds of his voice Noatak jumped slightly, as he turned his head upwards to look at the stallion. He looked to the older stallion curiously, a brow arched upwards a bit. It seemed as soon as the other stallion was here, Idiris was up and moving over to Uncle Donny, he too wanted to get up and follow suit, but he was told to stay safe and not get in the way and somehow it felt he would be in the way if he too followed. His heart ached for his fathers as soon as the word left Sal's lips, yet there was some sort of content peace with the presence of another adult. Noatak continued to listen to him, each word was gobbled up by Noatak. He took each word delicately, his little mind trying its best to comprehend all that was going around about him. Noatak nodded to Sal and offered a light smile, yet his eyes lingered over to Adhara the mare resting on the ground. "Is she going to be okay?" he whispered to afraid to speak another louder incase he would get scolded for his mere worry and slight curiosity.
Ears flickered as he caught the sound of splashing and his head whipped towards the sound, ears perked high upon his brow as he spotted Saleen splashing around. He was curious too of what she was doing, he never really met her, but he had to admit it seemed like she was having a bit of fun, more fun then the others here. A faint hum was heard from him, a way for him to reach out, without really reaching out. His small wings nestled deeply into his sides as he looked back at Salvator with quiet curiosity.

SALEEN Seroran Fledgeling "Remember, make the most of what you've got."
For the tall red and white filly, each day brought something new. She had slowly picked up a basic daily routine, but the pegasus was still young enough to be surprised by small things that most adults have seen many times. There was no telling what new opportunities would come Saleen's way at the lake that afternoon, but she was totally okay with that. She knew how to make the best of it, no matter what.
She had been distracting herself for the time being by romping in the shallows of the lake, totally unprecedented to the happenings around her. There was a small school of glimmering minnows in the water below, and like a feeding duck, the filly threw her head into the water desperate to see from their point of view. She would run out of breath rather quickly, and within seconds she'd bring her head back up and paw at the water in hopes the fish would come out and say hello. Disapprovingly, the fish quickly retreated when they realized the determined baby would absolutely not resist. The curly eared filly tried desperately to follow them, but she could only go so far before her feet no longer touched the bottom. But by that time, she had lost track of where they had gone anyway, so she desperately flapped her wings and legs simultaneously and made her way back toward the shallows.
"Papa, papa," she called out to her father, who was still in guard mode at Adhara's side and at the same time making small talk with the sultan's son. Immediately he turned to her, and encouraged her to focus on her rhythmic kicking rather than flapping her wings (she was a great kicker, her mother could attest to that). So she did just that, and with a twitch of her brow she felt her hooves touch the squishy sand beneath the lake once more. And as soon as she felt that reassuring touch, she romped toward the shoreline like a deer in a meadow, straight to her fathers side. Her ears perked up as she overheard everyone talking about Adhara's baby. Slipping under her father's belly, she tilted her head at Idris before reverting her hypnotizing gaze back at Salvatore.
"There's a real baby in Addie's belly?"

I D R I S THEY SAY SILENCE IS GOLDEN. A smile and the faintest of giggles followed as they felt their mentor press his nose against their snout. They were satisfied with themselves; pleased that they had managed to convey their thoughts clearly without much trouble. "Nn," the colt gave a short, curt grunt and a nod of the head, and they slipped out entirely from the safety of Adonis's wing. The sun was high and Sedo's heat loomed--but they saw themselves brave enough to skirt the edge of the lake. Idris never liked to travel alone, and Alya forbid they would be crazy enough to wander until the lake was out of sight. Instead, Idris trotted along, soft pale hooves trodding over the soil as they trekked past their small party.
The colt kept their head high, though they dipped it every so often as a change of perspective. Sedo was vast, but it was scarce, and plenty of wildlife had to fight their way with tooth and claw to get where they are on the food chain. The last thing Idris would want is to be bitten by a snake or attacked by a monitor lizard.
But what could they find that holds water in the desert? There were no bowls or pots around here, not unless one of the gods would be so kind to randomly place one down for them, and Idris doubted that! Thankfully the colt had a bright idea spawned from their growing knowledge of plants...
Many minutes later, and from the distance, a speck of seal bay with white splashes would come totting back to their party, head high with pride and long legs carrying them gracefully across the soil. Gently between their teeth, Idris held several long strips of spongy grass. Floating alongside them in telekinetic embrace was a tuber, filled with water. They had spent most of their absence digging it out, evident by the red sand and mud now staining their snow-white legs and snout. Idris picked up the pace as they neared their mentor.
They kind of wished they had found more. There was no doubt that snatching that tuber had taken some energy, but was it enough? A pregnant mare could go into labor for hours, it seemed. If the foal decided to come today...would some spongy grass and a tuber be all that they would need? Idris felt tempted to locate more, and their brows furrowed with concern over the quantity.

AdharaI know I'll wither so peel away the bark Because nothing grows when it is dark In spite of all my fears, I can see it all so clear I see it all so clear
"If there is anything you are in need of, please tell. We are here to be of service." Adhara smiled softly as the other medicine horse offered up his assistance as well. "Thank you, Eyrin. I appreciate all the hel-" The mare was cut off as another contraction ripped through her body. She shook her head slightly, snorting as she looked back at the stallion. "Maybe something to alleviate a bit of this pain, if you have anything. These contractions are really starting to take their toll." She laughed lightly, "Maybe something to drink as well, I don't know how easily I could make it to the watering hole right now." The thought of her trying to waddle down the hill in her current condition almost making her burst out in a fit of giggling.
Leaning back against the warm rock face she was resting upon, Addie welcomed the sun's rays as they covered her achy body. Her mind began to wander once more, looking for something else to think about besides the pain. Flicking an ear towards the two young foals standing beside the iron hoof, Salvatore, she caught Saleen talking to her father.
"There's a real baby in Addie's belly?" The little filly's innocent question brought a smile to the mare's face. Motioning both Saleen and Noatak to come closer with her wing, she nodded. "Yes, there is a real baby inside my belly. They are going to be Noatak's little sibling." She said softly, glancing at the rather nervou colt before continuing. "If you put your nose against my belly, you might just feel them kick." She said encouragingly, lifting her spotted wing away from her side. "You can try if you want to." Adhara added, hoping to make the fledglings a bit more comfortable with the situation.

Eyrin | Medicine horse
Eyrin smiled as the colt nodded before taking off towards Adonis. He didn't fail to note that the colt did not speak. Curious. Maybe they were shy. "You'll have a good opportunity to learn then." He remembered his first birth. He had been very nervous and ultimatily disgusted and horrified when the foal finally made it's way into their world. He had been worried something was wrong with it. "Don't worry if it all seems a little messy, that's normal." he added as an afterthought, before turning towards Adhara who had requested something for the pain.
"Water will already help, I think Idris is getting that for you. Let me see about herbs in the meantime." In his head he quickly listed any painkillers he knew off and scrapping the ones that were unsafe for the foal. He also had to make sure it was not too potent because she had to stay aware of the contractions in case the foal decided it was time to be born. He ended up selecting a few of herbs that seemed safe and effective, adding in something give a sense of calm as well. "Please only take a little and take some more later as contractions grow more frequent. It is not very tasty anyway." He tried to joke. His attention slid back to the playing youngsters, Noatak in particular seeming very impressed by the fact there was a foal inside Adhara. He chuckled at his wide eyes. Children were endearing and he regretted never having worked as caregiver for he was sure there were some splendid memories to be missed without it.

SALEEN Seroran Fledgeling "Remember, make the most of what you've got."
The baby was hesitant at first. She was watching the pregnant mare carefully, and it made her nervous to see her wince. The look on Adhara's face made her think of her mother, and it brought Saleen an overwhelming sense of worry. And thus as Addie would wince, the pegasus filly would follow suit. Nonetheless, it calmed her down knowing there were multiple doctors on hand should anything good wrong; the girl might darn well lose her mind if the situation fell out of hand.
But the pregnant mare was calm despite her pain, and Saleen's father didn't seem concerned in the slightest, so all of her fears were gone in an instant.
The curly eared baby watched with intent as the medic Eyrin discussed herbal remedies. No foal her age knew anything about the healing properties of plants, yet she had always been so fascinated by grown up talk. She giggled when Adhara invited her closer, and looked to her father for confirmation. Feeling the tickle of the grown mare's feathers was comforting, it reminded her of her mother's touch and she gladly embraced it, nudging herself into the appaloosa's large wing like a kitten.
Slowly, she lowered her nose until it was an inch away from the pregnant belly. After looking Adhara in the eyes, she touched the soft fur, and right where her nose made contact, the baby kicked. Quickly she jumped away. "Golly!" She exclaimed with joy, and looked to Noatak to see if he had experienced the same sensation. Then, her nose found itself looking for the unborn foal within once again. "I think he's ready to come out and play!"

ADONIS While Idris was off searching, Adonis allowed his gaze to wander again, directing his attention to the red filly splashing in the shallows. Along with the other children in the herd, Saleen was a sight for sore eyes after the drought had taken so much from the Serorans. New life was always a good sign. Watching her romp around eased his anxious mind, his eyes shining as she spoke about Adhara. Turning back to where Idris had gone, he smiled as he saw the colt trotting back. The sight of their usually pristine white markings stained with mud amused him entirely, unable to help but let out a soft laugh. He gently pulled the tuber from the colt's telekinetic hold, setting it within Adhara's reach.
"Thank you, Idris," he murmured, stretching out his wing and pulling the colt close to give them an affectionate nuzzle. It was obvious Adonis saw his apprentice as more than just well, an apprentice. His heart swelled with pride every time Idris went to work, appreciating how diligent they were.
"Let those soak up water and bring them back," he murmured in Idris' ear, half listening to Adhara address Eyrin. The other medic already placed down herbs for the mare, but Adonis glanced towards the small pack he'd brought. Of all the things in it, he'd forgotten a carrier for water. He sifted through it, finding the small supplies of white willow bark and peppermint he'd saved. A scowl could be seen on his face as he pulled them out. They'd been imported, along with food, from Aodh, and Donny wasn't the least bit happy about it... but it was medicine. He set them aside for whenever Adhara might need them, looking up as Adhara spoke to Saleen and Noatak.
A smile quickly replaced the earlier scowl as the filly reacted to a kick shed'd felt. It was hard to stay bitter with kids around.
By Alya's wings, let's hope not, he prayed after Saleen's outburst, feeling his chest tighten at the thought. He glanced back towards the outside of the oasis, hoping every other Seroran was faring better,

NoatakFledgling
His question hung in the air unanswered, but he was only to blame for it. For perhaps if had spoken, but a bit louder. Or have a bit more courage, he could know. Though his focus was lost as the little filly approached, Saleen. Ears perked high on his brow as he watched her happily trot to her dad. He snorted a bit as he watched the two, a tinge of envy running through his veins, but it seems the sand lands refused to let him down. As Adhara spoke out to Saleen and himself. Now he was hooked and curious. "Big brother." he chuffed out a bit. The words sounded foreign on his lips, yet his parents told him, he would be one. They were so happy for him, but still Noatak was so young and it seemed pleasant, but he didnt quite understand.
Adhara seemed to gesture for them to come over and see. He wouldn't lie he was curious, but her was nervous, yet seeing Saleen move closer, he quickly got up on all four and trotted after Saleen. Blue eyes looked to her swollen stomach and watched Adhara as she spoke saying they could touch, they could feel the baby. Ears flickered back a bit, would he really? But he followed Saleen's action without hesitation. He pressed his forehead gently against Adharas stomach, and oddly he found comfort, felt at ease, though the sudden movement made him jump back in surprise. Eyes wide with slight panic, was everything okay? Saleen though seemed eagerly pleased, and he quickly relaxed himself, though his heart raced still.
Noatak smiled brightly as Saleen mentioned playing he would like that. He really would, his small tail waved with delight. Though he looked back to the swollen stomach of Adhara and gently kissed her stomach gently. "Big brother." he whispered to himself, smiling all the more. "When will I be one?" he asked a bit to eagerly for the quiet Noatak. His head looked to Adhara and then quickly to Adonis, Idris and Eryin. Eyes turned to look at Saleen and raised a brow. "Are you one?" he asked her curiously, as it seemed he had found a bit more of his courage today.

I D R I S THEY SAY SILENCE IS GOLDEN. Unfortunately for Adonis, he might end up with a little red mud on his own nose for touching their stained snout. Idris fidgeted as they held back the urge to sneeze, at first, causing them to draw back their head awkwardly. The last thing they wanted to do was sneeze on their mentor and potentially embarrass themselves. But as soon as the urge went away, the colt would immediately set to work on wiping their snout clean, and they buried it into Adonis's shoulder briefly.
After some momentary fussing, Idris set to work on doing things as instructed. They gave a grunt and a nod to Adonis before they trotted up to the lakeshore, not far where Adhara was laying with the two other foals rather preoccupied. The leaves soaked, one by one, and eventually they returned with the grasses they had fetched, sopped with water and with most of the mud and dirt having been rinsed from their socked legs as well. Cleanliness was important, too!
Speaking of which, thank goodness that Adhara had laid down so close to the lake. They had returned in time to see signs of Adhara's beginning discomfort, and almost instantly their anxiety flared up in the form of heat that went washing over their withers. They wouldn't show that renewed nervousness, not in the face of the mother-to-be, but if one looked close enough they might see their facade faltering just a little in those big blue eyes. Idris would pause for all about half a second before they came to. They returned to their mentor's side, watching the mare closely. The pressure was creeping, especially since this was a child of the sultan they were delivering here.
Idris swallowed audibly, and plopped themselves down at Adonis's side. It was only natural that they provided a little distance between themselves and their younger peers...Idris did possess a little envy for Noatak but it was all harmless. Their own sibling was with their father, and their father was somewhere in Ziuseset with the rest of their nomadic group. Now, if only Selene was here to witness it with them now...

Eyrin | Medicine horse
Eyrin felt a little envious as he watched Idris and Adonis interact. The two seemed quite close for mentor and apprentice, much closer than Eyrin and his mentor had ever been. Seeing the quiet affection the two shared made Eyrin wish he had an apprentice himself. Or well any foal to care for. He shook his head. It was not proper to covet something an other had even if it was not materialistic. Maybe in the future he would have, but in the now he had to be happy with what the gods had already granted.
The medicine horse jumped in surprise as little Saleen reared back from Adhara's belly, though his exclamation soon calmed his nerves. Clearly the foal had kicked and that's what had the young one jumping. His questions were quite amusing to Eyrin and he let out a good humoured chuckle. Foals sure were adorable. He wandered up next to her and Noatak who studied Adhara. "I'm sure they'd love and come play with the two of you, he commented before answering the youngest foal's question. "Very soon. You will take good care of them as a big brother, won't you Noatak?" His eyes twinkeled at the young pegasus' apparent pride at the fact. He hoped Noatak would feel as happy as he himself was with their new sibling. Becoming a big brother had been quite the thrilling expierence to him. He nodded his approval as Idris returned with the soaked grass but otherwise remained silent as he watched the littlest ones interact.

SALEEN Seroran Fledgeling "Remember, make the most of what you've got."
The pegasus filly had been so mesmerized by the foal in Adhara's belly that she didn't even Idris returned with the water. Little Saleen could hardly wait to meet the newest member of the herd... perhaps even more impatient than the mare carrying the child, and the unborn's brother. To her, it was another baby to play with; another fledgeling she could relate to. Rather quickly, she snapped back to reality at Noatak's proclamation.
"Big brother."
So he was indeed, and Saleen would be silly to admit she wasn't a little bit jealous. Her ears swiveled to the side and her crest feathers lay back against her neck at the thought. It reminded her of her own parents, who weren't yet officially mates, and the slim likelihood of her ever having a little sibling to look after. Her pale blue eyes glistened as she looked to Noatak once more, with an innocent envy she surely couldn't hide. And then he asked the question she did not want to answer.
Saleen looked to her father with longing eyes, and he gave her an apologetic look in response. Quickly shaking her head, she snapped out of her jealous daze and gave him the tiniest smirk. "No, not yet but maybe one day soon!" She cheered, and by the end of it all she was clearly over it. Just because the baby wouldn't be her sibling didn't mean it couldn't be her friend, and that was enough for little Saleen. "You will be a good big brother. I can just feel it in my feathers!" With a bat of her eyelashes she perked her ears back up, her fluffy crest feathers happily fanned out behind them.

AdharaI know I'll wither so peel away the bark Because nothing grows when it is dark In spite of all my fears, I can see it all so clear I see it all so clear
The mare smiled as the little ones came close, laughing a bit as they jumped back, startled by the baby's movement. "I think he's ready to come out and play!" Saleen almost shouted enthusiastically, making Adhara smile more. "I think you're right." She said, wincing slightly as she shifted to a more comfortable position. Her ear twitched slightly as Noatak began speaking. "Big brother...When will I be one?" His innocent question only hung in the air for a moment before the appaloosa mare answered happily. "When this little one finally decides to greet the world, Which I think will be very soon." Adhara said with a smile.
As the foals continued chatting among themselves, the wiseman's attention was drawn to the quickly approaching apprentice. Eyes bright, she thanked Idris for the water which she quickly gulped down. The mare hadn't even realized how thirsty she was until that moment. The water was gone all too quickly though, and Adhara let out a gentle sigh. Turning to Adonis, she opened her mouth as if to say something but stopped. A look of shock began spreading across her face as a rush of amniotic fluid burst out of her.
"Adonis, Eyrin!" Adhara's voice shook softly as she called them to her side. "It's time, this baby is on it's way, whether we're ready or not." She cringed slightly as another contraction ripped through her body, this one sharper than the others had been. "Please just stay with me and help me through this...I've never done this before." Her voice was filled with a sense of panic, as the reality of giving birth began to set in. Sure, she'd been present for many births, but she was quickly realizing that watching and doing were two vastly different things in this case.

Checkpoint 1// It’s a good thing Osprey gave your group direction to watch over Adhara in case she went into labor while he and Abram were meeting with Aodh. Make sure everything goes smoothly for the new parents! But it should be a breeze with two medics in the mix.

NoatakFledgling
Noatak nodded as Saleen spoke. "Im sure you'll be really good one" he whispered a bit bashfully. Already loosing his courage to speak aloud with the others. He smiled gently to Adhara, her voice sweet and it made him want to coo with delight. Yet ears flickered back to his skull as everything began to change. The words and sounds all of it began to rush and change and Noatak felt himself slowly shaking. Eyes widen as he looked to hear Adhara's pleading words and the pain that flashed in her face. He gulped nervously as he took a few small steps away, hoping not to be in the way. Noatak searched everyone's face looking for reassurance, this was all too knew for him, especially someone that had only been in the world for a short amount of time.
A faint trill of a hum was heard within his throat, oh how he longed for a nudge or kiss from his fathers. A simple sweet word from them could wash away all his worry and replace it with delight and love. Yet here, he felt quite nervous, Adhara was nervous which made him grasp onto that emotion and make himself feel that. "Is she okay?" he asked a bit louder, but still his words could be easily washed away with the others. Ears bent to his skull, perhaps he shouldn't ask, the adults were busy and his fathers have told him at times, it was best to stay silent and let the adults do what needed to be done without a curious colt being under hoof. Yet he felt himself crane his forwards to sneak peaks at Adhara and ehr tummy where their new sibling laid. He prayed to Alya, his words to soft for many to hear "Please keep them safe under your wing, please."

ADONIS He smiled in amusement at his apprentice, knowing how much anxiety this gave them. He let one wing drop, brushing his feathers against Idris' side comfortingly.
His mind wandered as the other children chattered over Adhara, letting himself get lost in his thoughts. The pegasus wished for nothing more than to be home and safe under his blankets, with not a care in the world other than the gentle touch of his lover's wings. His heart ached from being so far from the other at the time being, the stress of the situation starting to pull at his mind. What if something terrible was happening and Donny wasn't there? He knew he didn't have much power when it came to politics, but there must be something he could do if shit hit the fan.
Eventually it did.
Adhara's panicked voice cut through his thoughts and he jolted back to the present, staring at her face as shock passed over her. She was going to give birth, no matter what any of them willed for.
Donny forced himself into action mode, stepping away from Idris and making his way closer to Adhara. Her fears were valid, the first time giving birth was always a terrifying experience. "It'll be alright, just take deep breaths Adhara," he instructed softly, taking deep breaths to show her. "Idris, stay at her head and make sure she stays calm," he looked at Idris, his usual soft blue gaze stony with concentration. This was a good learning experience for the colt, but Donny would have him taking it slow at first.
He spared a quick glance around the group, his heart fluttering at the sight of Noatak's frightened expression. "She'll be just fine, love, don't you worry. You'll be a big brother soon enough."
He glanced at Eyrin, nodding tersely for the other medic to help. While tense himself, Donny forced himself to relax, not wanting to spark anymore fears from the first time mother. She'd be fine, they would all be fine; Alya was looking out for them.
"Eyrin tell her when to push, please," he spoke again, eyes focused on the rippling muscles of the wiseman's stomach as contractions pushed through her.

I D R I S THEY SAY SILENCE IS GOLDEN. In response, the tobiano colt plopped their head up against Adonis's leg, using it as a pillow for them to rest against while they watched. The heat of the sun was often unbearable, even against the pelt of a foal born in the desert, and so the shade provided by the stretch of their mentor's sterling wings was welcomed. They closed their eyes and listened, still alert but giving their gaze a moment's peace from the bright sunlight.
They'd have but a few moments to listen to the small conversation between Adhara and the other foals before the mood shifted significantly. There was a burst of amniotic fluid, and Idris opened their eyes wide when they heard the pregnant mare call out. Almost instantly, Idris shot up, unable to contain the shock and the horror in their eyes. (There was always a chance to apologize later.)
All of the sudden their composed facade began to falter in one fell swoop. Idris worried, even anticipated that the foal would be born today, but even with that fear lingering in their head they couldn't have been less prepared mentally. Idris's little heart fluttered in their chest and their mouth slung open, briefly dumbfounded as to what to do next until Adonis finally gave them instruction.
"Nn!" Idris pushed themselves to their feet, nodding some curt, hasty nod as they struggled to keep themselves controlled. They're panicking, they're panicking, stop panicking, Iddie! They nearly sprayed the sand around them as they sprinted down to Adhara's side. Their entire frame shook like a frail baby bird as they carefully laid themselves down, quaking from excitement and fear alone. They didn't have the concern of telling Adhara when to push or to provide her with herbs, yet still their withers felt heavy with pressure. Don't mess this up. Don't mess this up!

SALVATORE Seroran Iron Hoof
It all happened so fast from Salvatore's point of view. There was so much activity going on around him that he found it increasingly difficult to keep his cool. From the obvious need to keep a watchful eye over his daughter Saleen, to making sure things moved along smoothly for Adhara... things were stressful. He knew his abilities were limited when it came to childbirth, so the Iron Hoof could do little aside from keeping a keen and observant eye.
As things progressed and the accompanying foals grew restless, Salvatore ushered his daughter away from the scene. The stallion sidestepped away before calling his daughter to his side, and she complied without hesitation, sliding back under his belly and peeking out from between his front legs, her soft baby feathers tickling his underside. It was all a flashback to him, for Io had given birth to Saleen not too long ago, and Eyrin had also been there for her. He knew the young stallion was highly capable. His eyes drifted to Noatak, who had a look of growing concern on his face as Adhara's contractions grew more extreme. He lowered his head to the boy as he had earlier, and gently encouraged him, "come Noa," he nodded with a smile. "Let's give the doctors some room, shall we?"
He looked once more to the medics and Adonis' apprentice, who seemed to be overflowing with anxiety. "You guys will do fine! No stress," he cheered. "If there's anything you should need, I can help. With the three of you I trust this will go smoothly." With a look toward the pregnant mare he repeated, "Same goes for you, Adhara. Anything at all, just say the word." He gave a soft smile before nuzzling his daughter's crest feathers, easing her excitement.

Eyrin | Medicine horse
It happened all in what seemed a matter of seconds as the contraction hit full gear. Ears perked, muscles tensed to spring into action and Eyrin was at full alert. Everything seemed to go fast and while the horses around him grew tense, Eyrin slipped into work mode. He had his mane tied back in seconds and fished out one of his ribbons to prepare Adhara with. He nodded to Donny and gave a thankful nod to Salvatore as he called the foals back to him. Adhara needed the space right now. To the mare who sounded panicked, he gave an encouraging smile. "It's gonna be okay. You will do just fine. Now listen to my voice, I'm gonna need you push when I tell you so, okay? Don't panick, I'll be tying up your tail for a second so things don't get more messy." He said more because a birth was always a mess. As cute as foals were, new life started quite ugly. As he worked at tying up her tail, he noticed Idris who seemed more than a little tense. Knowing he himself would rather keep himself occupied in stresfull times, he set the medicine horse to be at work, sincerily hoping Adonis wouldn't mind. "Idris, can you grab something to numb the pain? Nothing too strong though as we need her to feel the contractions. Some water would be splendid too."
Finishing his job, he moved back, letting room for Adonis in case he wanted to quite litterely work the rear. The foal would need to have their nose and mouth freed once delivered and they had to keep an eye if it was coming out alright. He moved back to the front, offering Adhara some cloth to bite down on. "Okay, let's deliver this foal shall we? Are you ready? One, two, three. PUSH!"

Noatak
Eyes were large as he took in everything in front of him. Everyone before him was moving around Adhara and his eyes looked to Idris and he felt himself gulping all the more. A faint trill of a hum leaving his lips. He was nervous and quite frightened, he didnt quite comprehend what was going on, but only be a few months old, could anyone blame the poor child. Head whipped upwards as a familiar voice seemed to snap him back into reality. Eyes sought out the voice and saw Adonis, he said everything was going to be okay. Noatak found himself nodding silently to Adonis, showing he understood what his uncle had to say. Yet still the little colt stood firm on where he was at on shaky knees.
Body flinched as someone called out to him once more. Eyes searched frantically for it, nearly jumping as Salv was right there. Salv spoke his own pet name so tenderly it made the young one hum out to him all the more. Noatak nodded to Salv and trotted after Salv and suddenly found himself right next to Saleen. He took comfort in all of it. To feel not so alone and not so out in the open. Noatak rested his head gently against on of Sal's front legs, taking reassurance in the presence of another. Bright blue eyes looked to them all, as he watched the two Adonis and Eryin take command of the situation and even Idris was doing good, even though he seemed nervous.
Ears flickered as he heard Sal speak out words of encouragement, which made the small colt smile a bit. Yet Noatak was still to nervous or even feeling well enough to speak much, feleing as if he had spoken enough for the day as it was. Instead he continued to lean a bit against one of Salv's legs watching the seen before him, while of course peeking glances at Saleen.

AdharaI know I'll wither so peel away the bark Because nothing grows when it is dark In spite of all my fears, I can see it all so clear I see it all so clear
Everything was happening so fast and seemed to be a blur. Voices telling her they were tying her tail up and that she'd be fine faded in the distance as pain flooded her senses.
"Push!" Eyrin's voice called, trying to encourage her and coach her through this... and push she did. Pain shot through her entire being as her body screamed that something wasn't right. She didn't know what but every fiber of her being told her something was wrong. Frantically she looked back at the medics. "The baby...Something...Something is wrong!" She tensed as another contraction tore through her.
Her mind ran through all the scenarios it could muster. Was the baby too large? Was it breached? Was the umbilical chord wrapped around it's tiny little neck? If only she knew what was going on, what the details were so she could share them with the medics who had the power to save her and the child. "Please!" She begged, her voice strained as tears started rolling down her cheeks. "I don't know whats wrong, but I know something is... Just please help the baby!" All sense of calm had left the mare by this point as she worried over the well being of the life within her. She knew the herd's medics were skilled, but were they prepared to handle something like this?

Checkpoint 2// It seems the baby is too large for Adhara to safely give birth the traditional way. All hooves must be ready to help as an emergency caesarean must be preformed if both mother and child are going to live. Though skilled, the medics will need all the help they can get!

ADONIS The problems were felt before Adhara's pleas reached his ears.
As Adhara was told to push, the spasms that pushed against Adonis' nose was enough to tell him something was off. The wiseman's cry was enough to confirm his suspicions. If she wasn't able to push the baby out, then... Taking a deep breath, Donny thought about what he had to do. As the oldest medic present, most of the responsibility lay on his shoulders and he'd be damned if he didn't do his best. Of all things, he didn't want to do a c-section. He'd only had to do it once before, but perhaps it was just luck that allowed the procedure to go smoothly. He prayed that Alya was on his side once more.
Forcing himself to stay calm, the medic raised his head to address his apprentice, although the colt was already off following Eyrin's order. Biting his tongue, Donny moved away from Adhara for a split second to grab his medical bag, shuffling through it and pulling out rags and a scalpel (the one thing he really didn't want to use today). He returned to the panicking mare, keeping the rags to the side and laying the scalpel out of her sight. It would only make her panic more if she saw it and that wouldn't be helpful to any of them.
"Idris, get something much heavier, I need her calm," he ordered his apprentice while the colt was still busy. His voice almost betrayed the tension and nervousness he felt. Almost.
He turned his attention to the straining mare, his heart aching at the sight of her tears. For her first pregnancy to go awry immediately, he knew that she was scared to death. He rested his nose gently to her shoulder, praying that his voice was steadier than his racing heart. "Adhara, I'm going to have to perform a cesarean section on you to make sure that both you and this baby will be safe. I need you to do your best to stay calm and trust me through this. Idris will bring you something to help with the pain, alright?"
After addressing her, his stormy blue gaze turned to the other medic, his voice firm (and low to keep from Adhara overhearing) from the seriousness of the situation. "Eyrin I don't know how skilled you are in this, but I need to trust you as well. I'm going to make a few incisions and when that baby is out, I need you to make sure she's not bleeding out. I have sutures in my bag, take them as soon as she's cleaned."
He took another deep breath, glancing at Adhara's straining form before looking up at the sky. "Hopefully Alya will allow this to go smoothly."
His eyes finally met the other foals and Salvatore, giving the red stallion a nod. His expression was almost grim as he viewed the other members of the party, hoping Sal would keep their little eyes shielded. Births were never pretty, and this one wasn't promising to be any better. Donny waited for Idris to give Adhara anesthetic herbs before nosing her belly gently, searching out the right spot to make an incision.
