Iden blinked awake and yawned as the beams of new sunlight warmed his face slightly against the cold air. His hooves were almost buried up to his fetlocks in the snow as he stood up, snow that had collected on the ground the night before, but almost all traces of the blizzard had been replaced by a calm quiet. The sky was a warm yellow hue as the dawn stretched out before Onea. The flaxen stallion had never been one to rise easy in the early mornings, least of all when he knew he had hard work ahead of him...but, on the plus side, at least he would have company. Having a job to do with another horse always beat lone patrols in Iden's books. He couldn't recall ever meeting the stallion he was working with today, but it was always exciting meeting new people.
With a shake of his mane, the lanky horse began to head towards the Farmlands; hopefully he wouldn't have kept his companion waiting! As he plodded toward his destination, Iden took note of the remaining damage caused by the high winds that had caused some disruption throughout Onea... trees broken, branches handing off in odd directions, stone walls crumbled in places - there was no wonder it was 'all-hooves-on-deck'' to help in the effort of clearing some of the debris.
As he neared the allocated meeting point for him and his new companion, he noticed a large, burly stallion standing there - he looked even taller than Iden and dwarfed the skinny scout completely. Iden trotted up to the older stallion, calling out a greeting which cut through the quiet air.
''Hey! I think I'm supposed to meet you here? The name's Iden!''

He had awoken early that morning, the air still cool enough to give him a shiver and the sun not quite fully awake. He went about his morning as he usually did; crawled out of his tent, brushed the snow off its canvas sides, made himself a little bit of toast and jam by the fire, and then greet the sun as it finally decided to catch up to him. He enjoyed this time of dawn, being able to relish in the quite earth and find some peace before a long day of work followed.
Putting his cooking supplies off to the side and snuffing out his fire, Muiris pulled himself to his burly hooves and pulled both his mane and tail into a messy bun. He didnt care if it wasnt perfect, as they were only doing a little bit of clean up from the night's storm. Snow was pressed up against the sides of trees and bundles up in other odd places here and there, but it was mostly the wind that had done the damage. A glance to the side showed that a branch had almost tried to tackle Muiris in his sleep, but had fallen short only a few week away.
I'll have to be more careful where i set up my tent. He thought to himself with a huff, kicking the log with a lazy hoof as he trotted over it to find his meeting place. He was to meet a scout. Iden. He didnt remember meeting such a horse before, but maybe seeing him would jog his memory. Muiris wasnt the best with names, but he never forgot a face.
His heavy trot sent snow clambering out from under his steps, ticking his legs as he went. Pressing his tongue against his teeth, the roan stallion let out a sharp whistle, amber eyes searching for the arctic shewolf that had decided to claim him as hers. Only a few seconds passed before the scarred canine lept from the tree line, her silvery coat dabbed in blood around her paws and her snout, probably from whatever poor prey had become her breakfast.
"Good morning, Avon." Muiris chirped to his companion, only getting a glance from her icy blue eyes as a response. They were still warming up to each other, after all.
The team reached their meeting place, Muiris's breath puffing small clouds of mist around his muzzle as he glanced around the Farmlands. They had been hid harder than he had up in the mountains; branches and debris from small avalanches littered all over. He saw a particular route had been blocked in the distance, which he assumed was the one they were to to find a way around.
A low growl emitted from his canine friend, pulling him from his thoughts as he turned to see a shorter stallion approaching him. Muiris gave Avonaco a glance, his eyes narrowing as if to tell her be quiet, which she obeyed, but kept a watchful eye on the stranger. She was not one who was quick to trust, especially when strangers were around her master.
"Iden? Yep, you're in the right place." Muiris replied with a half smile, his ears flicking forward to study the small man before him. "My name's Muiris, this is Avonaco." He gave a nod to the wolf beside him, who flinched at the sound of her name, but did not remove her hard stare from the stranger stallion.
Muiris glanced back to the block route he had seen before, shifting his weight on feathered hooves and tipping his head in its direction. "I think that may be the route we have to find a way around." He said in a matter-of-factly tone, work mode fully engaged. "Im assuming it'll be easier that way than attempting to clear it. You ready?" WC: 640 | Post #1
