Merchant Mistakes Beyond and Adagio

Adagio Aodhian Commoner Merchant
Blue eyes scanned the next stand hastily, and gentle hum was let out between lips as she browsed the shopkeeper's wares. The painted arabian mare on the opposite side of the tabletop was staring at her anticipatingly, eager to be given an offer. Adagio could sense an inner ire festering somewhere in that woman as she shook her head and grunted. "No, no, that wouldn' do..." And the unicorn tipped her head and walked to the next.
She had been at this all morning, with no signs of any luck. Adagio felt she had found a few possible gifts that she deemed worthy of being given to such a powerful influence as Sixtine, but by now they could have been bought and sold, and they were on the opposite side of the bridge, no less. Adagio had paced this bridge many times but never so many as she had in the past few hours. And now her hooves, even the one made of strong gemstone, were starting to ache.
"Isn't there anything good to buy...?" She muttered under her voice, throat rasping. Ignacio's sun was near its zenith and the climbing heat and her tired muscles were draining her of hydration, and she very well needed water. Perhaps she should just pick something and leave? No, even if Sixtine was a mere Servile Slave--a horse who walked in the shadows of Ignacio's citizens, Adagio wouldn't dare use that mentality as an excuse for buying something cheap and lazy. She'd find her something extravagant--even if it may take all day to find it.

Beyond
Beyond had never done this before, she'd been scouring the stores for two hours now, each and every one had tried to sell her something different but none seemed to have quite what she wanted. The main problem here wasn't that everyone was trying to sell her something, it was that she had absolutely no idea what she was looking for. She stopped to eye a display of small wooden toys ranging from blocks with beautifully painted pictures, letters, words and numbers on the them to little wooden dragons with wheels that could be led along on a string. She was mesmerise for a moment by a strange glass Phoenix that seemed to drink from the cup it was purchased on, surfacing for every every few moments. She shook her head, no, this would not do, and moved on.
The sun was very hot now, especially out on the bridge where shade was scarce. She peered in the leather bag that hung around her neck, there were only three small items in the dark folds of the bag. She grimaced, well, this was going fantastically. She jostled the bag gently, as if this movement might cause some fourth item to fall from the leather folds of the bag, and turned her attention back to the shops that surrounded her. Despite the heat there were plenty of equines still exploring the wares the shopkeepers had to offer. A stallion nodded to her as he walked past, she nodded back, he must be one of the Chevaliers she'd worked with. She was terrible with names.
As she turned to continue her search she heard the quiet words "Isn't there anything good to buy?...". Beyond smiled, that was exactly what she was thinking, "it depends on what you're looking for I guess" she replied, turning to face the speaker who was not at all what she expected. "I thinking the exact same thing..." she grimaced,

Adagio Aodhian Commoner Merchant
Though she did not turn around and go against the flow of the crowd she did glance over her flank to see who had spoken from behind her; a gray mare with a dark mane and distinguishing markings down her face. The painted filly smiles, and gently slides to the left to make a path for the older mare. "Well, what I'm looking for a gift, that's what. It's not that things are too pricey--well, things are pricey, but I'd be willing to buy them if I see them fit enough--but I just don't see anything that would quite fit for a gift."
Adagio wanders toward the next stand, lion-like tail swaying gently past the hocks of her legs in curiosity. Laid neatly on a violet clothed table were glass ornaments; kirins, dragons, horse heads with antlers and orange-colored trinkets curved in the shape of flames...the owner of the stand smiled proudly, and looked expectantly at the filly.
"Say, uh, you wouldn't mind passing some advise, would you?" Adagio turned her attention to the gray mare. "The gift I'm looking for is for someone special. Someone who's been, really, a big part of my life. They're a good friend and I wanted to get them something to show my appreciation for what they've done for me all these years..." Notice how the word slave never met Adagio's lips. Although Sixtine was merely a servile slave, and could easily be described as such, Adagio had held the pegasus with such high regard that she could never bring herself to admit that fact unless she needed to. And here there was no need to make clear that her friend was the family slave, either. It was a gift she was searching for, and a gift was her priority.

Beyond
Beyond nodded her agreement as the colourful filly spoke, while there were many wonderful items available for purchase, there would not be something to suit everyone. She followed the fillies gaze to a display of ornate wares depicting classic Aodhian images of Kirins, dragons and the like. She listened intently to the filly as she spoke while flicking her gaze from the speakers face to the wares and back again. "I'd be quite happy to give any advice I can" she replied with a soft smile, its nice to have your opinion valued by someone you have just met.
She paused for a moment to consider the fillies words, "hmm, well, is it a mare or a stallion?" She asked "if it's a mare then maybe you should look for something she can appreciate in beauty, or if they're a stallion then maybe consider a decorative dagger? although I find the best gifts have a deeper meaning" she continued "you should look for something that reminds you of their best quality maybe, say they have beautiful eyes you could pick a charm the same colour, or if they always smile then something in a shade that reminds you of the warmth of it?" She paused to think for a moment again, her eyes scanning the surrounding stalls.
Her eye caught on something that might be suitable, she moved across two stalls, gesturing for the gold filly to follow. "What about this?" She picked up a simple gold chain with a oval pendant, the pendant was simple and smooth, a creamy gold stone with marbling of vibrant gold and dark brown. "It's similar to your coat, if they mean so much to you then surely you must mean a lot to them, maybe this will remind them of you and it's nice enough for a stallion or a mare."
She offered it to the filly to consider, "maybe you could offer me some advice on my search for a gift as well, if it isn't to much trouble?" She queried. "I'm in search of a gift for someone special too, although this equines a foal who I have never met, I have few memories of when I was that young and even less idea of what I would have liked which makes it difficult to know what I'm looking for. Maybe you would know what a foal would enjoy most?" She glanced at the pendant once more, another idea coming to her. "Maybe you could get something custom made, for your friend, if you know their favourite gemstone, I've even seen horses make charms from pieces of their horns but I really don't recommend that" she said with a smile.

Adagio Aodhian Commoner Merchant
"Mare. Uh, pegasus, to be more precise." She answered, whilst blue eyes continued to browse the glass wares. "Thing is, I don't really know what she like likes. I've known her all my life and yet I could never decide on what to get her for a gift to show her some appreciation." Adagio gave a side comment, "She practically raised me, ya know. And I want to get her something because don't all horses like gifts? Of course, my dad would get her some jewelry and decorations for her to wear too but I've never really seen her wear anything outside her bridle and collar."
Even though Avalon proudly saw himself as above slaves, Adagio had seen him occasionally treat Sixtine with something nice. A fancy slave bridle with a bit that was smooth and never tugged on the corner's of one's mouth, a collar that not only made her look more appealing but presented the family's prestige to the world. Those things and many more, but almost all of them she never saw Sixtine don.
"And that's why I'm at such a loss here. Does she like jewelry? I could be wrong all my life and she may like something completely different. I feel like a numbskull knowing that I don't know it." Adagio groaned.
The painted filly offered a side glance in the mare's direction, locking eye contact for a moment's time before browsing the table again. "Well, I don't know. As far as I remember I've always been into books and learning rather than playing around when I was younger. Which as far as I know, not many horses are into that stuff, huh? I guess if were to suggest something I'd suggest a stuffed animal; I had one of those things as a kid and I loved those."
