"Take your broken wings and learn how to fly again!"
The stallion loved the feel of the wind playing with his curly hair, blowing through his somewhat thick coat, and piercing his lungs with every breath he took. The sun glared down on him as he flew gracefully across the desert land of his new home terrain of Serora. His new friend, Donny, had convinced him to stay, despite the ex-vagabond's want to return to his mercenary ways. However, something had drawn him to stay when his friend had mentioned the possibility of Roland himself to become a Screamer..
Only his second day on the job, the stallion was starting to love it. He enjoyed the fact that he no longer had to sleep with one eye open, had others close by for him to interact with, and a new rank to keep his constantly busy mind occupied. He was still getting used to it, though, He would often awake with a start at the sound of some couple or a few kids running down the streets in the night, his defenses on high alert as, when he was a vagabond, such a noise meant a stranger. And a stranger meant danger.
He was still getting used to the ideas of the herd; more specifically, their trust in strangers. After being rescued from the grasp of The Sear, Roland was surprised how well the herd had accepted him. Of course, he never mentioned his old rank of being a mercenary- he never mentioned the blood on his hooves and the crimes he had committed.. he had no choice. When one was a vagabond, one had to do what they had to do to survive.
The stallion's brow furrowed at the thought as he found the typical rock formations that indicated he had arrived at his spot. Spreading his wings out, he glided to a landing, hopping on his hooves as he reached the ground and tucking his large, painted, bat-like wings to his roaning side. Licking his dry lips, grey eyes scanned the twisting and curving rocks that towered over him, his head tipping to the side and craning back as he tried to find the top of the one closest to him. His wings twitched at his side, his hooves shuffling beneath him as he turned his gaze away and look for.. whoever it was he was supposed to meet.
He couldnt help but keep the thought out of the back of his mind: damn, those rocks looked like a fun course to fly through!

Io | Serora | Screamer
She was dreading her current task. Io had left the cool shade of her home to attend to a task that she was supposedly better qualified for than any other horse in her rank. Over the past few weeks the young mare had only grown more bitter and cold, wary of everyone, including her dearest herd members. The heat of the desert used to be a comfort and there was nothing more that the scout enjoyed than spending her days out in Sedo's landscape. Unfortunately those feelings had changed along with the time.
Io rarely flew. Her wings were often tucked at her sides, and several others had even begun to wonder if she even could in the first place. Her wings were feathered, long, elegant and white except for one black feather on her right wing. She wasn't built for long flight, but there was a part of her that missed soaring through the skies, feeling the cool air against her face and blowing through her mane. Yes.. she missed it terribly. With a short sigh she came to a stop, her eyes scanning the landscape in front of her and traveling up to the towering rock formations. Who was it exactly that she was suppose to meet here in the first place? No one seemed to be here...
The scout ruffled her feathers, stretching one wing and craning her neck over to tease a few of her feathers before she nudged them carefully back into their proper place. Before Io had the chance to grow impatient she spotted something, well, someone across from her. Was that who she was meant to meet? From where she stood she couldn't decide if she recognized the horse or not, but if there was one thing that she noticed, it was their wings. Her fowl mood seemed to have dissipated and she trotted forward, her short fluffy and feathered tail twitching behind her. The closer she got she finally noticed it was a stallion, and if he was a Screamer like herself, why hadn't she seen him before?
"Uh.." Io shuffled her wings, her ears flicking towards her back and laying against her dark colored head. Introductions were always awkward, and it didn't help that they were the only two out here in the middle of nowhere. "...you're waiting for someone, right?" She asked, bringing herself to look up at him.

"Take your broken wings and learn how to fly again!"
The stallion's ears flicked at the sound of hoof steps approaching him, pausing in his daydreaming to assess the stranger approaching him. His head tipped to the side ever so slightly, his curly forelock draping across his left eye as he examined the newcomer. As they got closer, he realized it was a mare- another pegasus, though her wings held the soft feathers of a bird. He noticed the bandage on her back leg, his curiosity peaking, but he brushed it off with a shuffle of his leathery wings. A smile played softly upon his lips as he examined her fluffy painted coat before locking onto her own icy gaze when she started to speak.
"I am.." He replied, his ears flicking forward as he rested a hoof, his rump slumping in his casual pose. He let his wings rest by his side, allowing them to touch the desert ground and soak in the heat of the sun. "Are you the Screamer i was supposed to meet? They didnt give me very many details.." His brow quirked as a quizzled expression crossed his features. "Oh, im sorry, my name is Roland. Im new around here- just joined the herd a few days ago." He didnt mention the fact that he had been a Vagabond, or a Mercenary at that. He would let that stay tucked away unless asked, and even then he would try to avoid it. His past was the past, the scars looping his muzzle proving that it wasnt something he was proud of.
Shaking his head, he turned his gaze away from the mare and back to the towering rock formations, puffing his cheeks out before letting off a soft sigh. He had gone through the basic fighter training, but that hadnt been much. They basically told him not to get himself killed, and he already knew that. He hoped this meant that real training started today, or at least a good rundown of what it was that he was doing here.. He turned his head back to his new companion, a charming smile returning to his lips. "And you are..?"

Io | Serora | Screamer So he was an outsider. Io shifted her wings, ears flicking back for a moment. That certainly wasn't going to help him regarding his first impression, but stubbornly the scout pushed it aside. "I suppose so, seeing as I was suppose to meet another Fleet Foot here myself..." she muttered, sounding a little disinterested. Thoughts, more importantly; questions had begun to swarm her mind. If he wasn't from Serora, where exactly had he come from then? Alya forbid if he was a Vagabond or worse in her opinion; Aodhian... or maybe Talori would have been worse. Luckily the pegasi was snapped out of her clustering thoughts by the scree of a predatory bird soaring above them. Instead of her rather unfriendly approach, strangely enough, Io offered him a small smile. "Well, welcome to Sedo and to Serora." She took in a breath, ears flicking forward again as she took a long look at the landscape around them. "I can promise you that there certainly isn't any other place like it in all of Hireath." Her expression softened at her words, but that quickly disappeared as his second question brought her eyes back onto him. "My name is Io." She introduced herself simply with a polite bow of her head and another shuffle of her large white wings. "So, you say you've only joined us just a few days ago? Enlighten me," an amused chuckle, "what did they teach you in that short amount of time?"

"Take your broken wings and learn how to fly again!"
His brow quirked at the sound of her disinterested tone, though the small smile stayed on his lips regardless. His ears twitched as she welcomed him with a soft tone, a chuckle leaving his lips. "Im sure." He assured her, nodding his head slowly as his attention turned to the screeching bird above them briefly before turning back to the mare as she introduced herself. Io. He played it in his head several times, attempting to commit it to memory. As easy as a name she had, he was sure he would forget it anyways. Having come from being a Vagabond, names were not something he deemed important in his younger years and was now struggling in the herd life to care to remember them.
His hooves shuffled as she asked her next question, tucking his wings back against his side and pursing his lips with a low hum. "Oh, not too much." He smirked, flicking his messy forelock from his stormy eyes. "Just showed me around, told me my basic duties, but never showed me anything.. My first day here i was sort off.. out of commission." He frowned as he remembered the heat from the Sear and his now-medic-friend's voice as he told him he was a dumbass for going out there.
Roland wouldnt deny it though, he was probably right.
His smile returned.
"But i was hoping thats why they sent me, or i guess us, all the way out here-" He paused, glancing back toward the twisting rock formations. He opened his mouth to speak again, but closed it with a flick of his wing. She probably knew more about what they were doing there more than he did.

Io | Serora | Screamer
Io watched him with gentle curiosity, eyes not missing a single movement, not even a breath as they spoke to one another. Although it was his unusual leather wings that kept snagging her attention. She had never seen anything like them before, but they were absolutely beautiful in her eyes and she couldn't help but quietly admire them. But upon hearing his response she shook her head slightly, trying to focus on what she had been sent here to do in the first place. "Hmm," the young mare hummed in thought before walking forward, her short feathered tail twitching behind her as she stopped several feet away and facing the colorful rock formations that towered over them. "Do you live in Osulas then?" She asked, turning her head just enough to look back at him over her shoulder. "The main city is a little different than being out here." Io frowned, knowing he had previously said that no one had shown him anything. That was a bit... careless. It was dangerous in Sedo, if not already for it's own citizens, even more so to outsiders. The scorching heat was the least of anyone's worries.
"Forgive me, I mean no offense," she turned her entire body towards him this time. "You seem more suited as an Iron Hoof, physically anyway." Io raised a brow, looking him over from his hooves to his head, which forced her to look up at him. "What intrigued you about being a Screamer? We have to be out here in the heat a lot of the time you know." Although she would prefer getting whatever training she was meant to teach started, Roland here was an outsider. She was excellent at concealing her suspicion, but she was still cautious of the stallion. If she ever needed to get away she unfortunately didn't have the advantage of flight, since he himself was a pegasus, and fleeing on foot was completely out of the question due to her injury. Io needed to know as much about him as possible.

"Take your broken wings and learn how to fly again!"
His ears flicked at her question, his hooves taking a couple steps forward to follow her, his stormy grey eyes lit with curiosity. Her twitching tail momentarily caught his attention, before he pulled his gaze back up to the mare before him. “Yes, Im staying with a friend for now until i can get back on my hooves.” He replied with a short nod. “I hope to find my own place in Osulas, though, i love the canyon.” His lips twitched with a lopsided grin.
He shuffled his wings against his side before pulling one over his head, blocking the sun once more from his eyes before pulling his gaze away to look back at the rock formations before them. Sedo was quite the place- he felt like he belonged already. He was eager to get started on his training- or whatever he was here for anyways- but he was sure the mare had her reasons for asking him all these questions. He had noticed that she seemed a little distant from him, but he didnt doubt it was due to his outsider heritage. For all she knew, he could have been a cultist.
He pulled his wing back to his side as she turned to face him, his tail flicking behind him as he listened to her questions, a small smile on his lips. He chuckled softly and shook his head. “That was brought up.” He replied, allowing his gaze to linger on the mare before it dropped the the sandy ground. “Im more suited for areal combat. Im not much of a fighter yet, but im skilled in the air. The heat, i can get used to.” He pulled his attention back up the painted mare before him, quirking a brow. “Stamina’s a bit of a strong suit.” He added with a half-hearted wink.

Io | Serora | Screamer Despite being an outsider merely a few days ago, Io couldn't deny that his positive words towards her home made her feel a lot more comfortable with him. She herself loved Sedo more than anything and there certainly wasn't any other place she would chose to call home. It only warmed her heart to know that someone else felt the same. A small smile softened her dark colored face as she gave him a small nod. "The city is beautiful." She huffed a short sigh, looking off into the distance for a few seconds before she returned her curious blue gaze to Roland. "I live there myself but-" Io stopped mid-sentence, her wings shuffling at her sides uncomfortably. No, she wasn't going to mention anything personal. "...but there's nothing really in the capital for me."
"Are you a fast flyer?" She suddenly asked, trying to get her mind of off any lingering thoughts. It had been a long time since she had used her wings for flight. There were days where she simply glided from one rock to another, but she never really had any reason to take to the sky and fly. Today would definitely be different. At a young age Io always had a competitive streak, and now for the first time it was making a return. "I haven't flown very much but, I'm still a challenge to keep up with in the sky." The young mare chuckled in amusement.
