She’d felt it before the first crack.
Tremor sense was a strange blessing because it couldn’t be willed and dismissed when desired; it was always with her, always a gnat in her ear whispering what the rocks and valleys were up to. She had learned to tune it out when it wasn’t relevant.
But no, this time she felt the creaking and whining of the bridge like an intruder screaming in her head, and alarm roared through her veins. She had skittered back, bumping everyone behind her, telling them to “get back, dammit! get back!”
It was like watching a dream to see the massive structure crack in two, breaking and falling into the chasm below. Slowly at first, as if it wasn’t sure what to do, then freefalling with the dance of gravity. The crash at the bottom of the abyss was enough to reach Eithne and it echoed among the mountainsides like a god’s drum.
If the collapse wasn’t enough, the aftershocks tumbled down layers and layers of stone, including onto the path where they came from. They’d have to be mountain goats to traverse the tall, jagged piles. A few rocks had slammed into Fox and she’d stumbled, but stayed upright.
And now the dust was settling and the terrified, dirty, scarred faces of her companions looked at one another. Her heart twisted in frustration and desperation.
So they were stuck. Brilliant. Just brilliant.
- - -
She, along with Kell, had been charged by the Stone Circle with leading herders to better grazing plains. And Muiris was ordered to join them as a measure of protection. It seemed like everyone these days was on the edge of their nerves about Vagabond sightings, and she was thankful the massive stallion was with them. She wanted so badly to ask him about his trip to Aodh and if he found who he was looking for, but as soon as every quiet moment came it was whisked away again by someone asking questions or strategizing or speaking aloud. She’d have to catch up with him later.
Kell, on the other hand, she was not so thankful to have at her side. The gritty winged mare was like a stone. Not a good partner to converse with, not a good partner to make decisions with. Flashbacks of the Night of Bloodletting swam into her mind, and she made a wide berth around Kell’s creepy wings.
Everyone else in her party was a stranger. Ezmeralda she had certainly heard enough about, and she knew the others by name, but that was it.
Their goal, naturally, was to reach Skeldr Town for provisions and further instructions. And now their only path forward was in a pile of rubble at the bottom of the chasm. It seemed unreal. It seemed like a horrible dream. This can’t be happening. We don’t die like this.
She looked to her group. Mares, and a solitary Raider, and a solitary Pegasus, a bunch of herders, and a- a child. She swallowed hard. What were they thinking bringing a child into the mountains?!
Her own hip ached, but she knew it would only bruise. Her eyes burned from the chalky dust that surrounded them like a cloud, and she coughed and shook her head.
“Who is injured?” she cried. “Is there a medic among us?"

Ezmeralda | War-Forged | Herder
It was utter chaos. Everything erupted almost as soon as Fox's piercing cry filled the air around them. The ground beneath her hooves began to crumble, and the large mare fought to get her body moving fast enough to get to safety. She felt the bridge begin to give out under her hooves, cracking and falling into the abyss with each step she took. With one final leap, she was able to make it to the other side with the rest of the group she was with, but almost as soon as she thought she was safe, the aftershock of the bridge falling into the bottom on the chasm sent an avalanches cascading toward them. Her puffin familiar took off into the air, making the smartest decision she had seen him make since she had met him as she galloped out of the way of the rocks and snow falling toward them. Her eyes were round in fear as memories of her own parent's death flashed through her mind. She didn't want to die like they had. She didn't want to be crushed by thousands of pounds of stone and snow.
Rocks fell onto her, nearly knocking her hind legs out from underneath her as a larger rock smacked her right in the leg, but she was able to keep her legs moving despite the searing pain that the boulder had created. Rubble scratched at her hide, creating cuts and bruises along her side as she ran for her life. It felt like she had been running for hours, but in reality, the entire devastating situation was over in a matter of seconds. Her breath came out in wild pants when she finally stopped, and her green eyes looked fearfully at the horses around her, frantically searching for the one horse she truly knew in this group, Muiris, to make sure he had made it safely out of the grasp of the avalanche. Gods, she didn't know what she would do if he wasn't okay. Tears formed in her eyes at the very thought of never seeing him again, and when she finally spotted his familiar roan pelt, she heaved a sigh of relief. She fought the urge to run toward him though, to hug him in front of everyone there. She was sure that that would be embarrassing to him, and she knew that he had a job to do and probably didn't want her following after him like a lost puppy. It was enough for her just to see that he was okay.
So much for a safe, little trip to Skeldr town to search for grazing land for the herders' stocks. They had found themselves in quite the predicament. They were trapped. The avalanches blocked the path behind them, and the bridge ahead of them was almost completely gone. It was certainly not enough for them to travel across to the other side.
She snapped to attention as the chestnut mare, Fox, called out to everyone, and as Ezmeralda took a step forward, she choked back a sob as she put weight on her back leg. "Ouch!" She muttered to herself, biting her lip as her puffin familiar returned to his usual place on her withers. 'T-thanks, Zeru, at least you're not hurt.' She thought as she looked herself over. There were small scratches here and there from the debris that had hit her, but there was no external problems she could see on her leg other than a cut that would cause her this much pain. 'It's probably just a sprain or a small fracture from that rock.' Ezmeralda told herself, placing weight on the leg again to be greeted by another jolt of agony. She didn't want to call attention to herself though even if there were a medic with them. She would just slow them down, and maybe she could work this out herself without having to bother anyone after a little bit. The least she could do was let any medic that might be with them tend to her last. Someone else might have much more serious injuries, and Ezmeralda hated for anyone to worry over her just for a hurt leg.
She looked around at the horses trapped with her, coughing occasionally as dust filled her lungs. Other than Muiris and Tem, a stallion she was supposed to be betrothed to (thank the gods, they had left on good terms. Otherwise, this would have been a whole other ordeal), she knew no one, though she had heard Muiris speak of Fox a few times. If she were a friend of Mui's, Fox couldn't be too bad. But everyone else was a complete stranger that she could only hope weren't too frightening.

Kell | Scout
It was a good thing that Kell knew Fox relatively well. She had been sent on scouting missions with the chestnut scout several times, not to mention the New Year's blizzard, and while they had not always gotten along, per se, Kell had learned that Fox could be serious when she wanted to be - and when she was serious something really was wrong. Thus, when she had shouted to get back, Kell had obeyed with alacrity, body-slamming anyone unfortunate enough to be in her way off of the bridge and onto the path.
She had been one of the closest to the bridge, and as it creaked and crumbled to pieces she had been pounded with stone and dust and grit that stung like fiberglass. Still, while she had cuts and bruises aplenty, there were no injuries that wouldn't prevent her from walking, and she could always use another scar anyway. Spinning around quickly and checking who was with her and if they were okay, she found herself with some faces she knew and others she didn't. And a foal. Many of them didn't seem to be the combatant types, so to speak, but she had found that plenty of herders were much more resilient than she had given them credit for. Time to see if these ones were too.
Glancing uneasily back at the other side of the bridge, where they needed to be, Kell sought out Fox, who had become their leader the instant she warned everyone of the bridge's instability. "I can still fly. If you need me to," she said, glancing back to the other side of the mountain where they needed to be.

Tem | Herder.
That morning, when they'd left the safety of their village and Tem had been forced to temporarily leave his herd behind, he'd felt uncomfortable. Not so much because he'd worried about their goals - they'd find those meadows, he was sure - but because he'd much rather have stayed behind with his flock than be forced to interact with strangers he didn't know. Tem had enough awareness to figure out he'd somehow put his hoof in his mouth. Maybe he'd insulting someone or knock someone in a crevice. Without meaning to, even.
So, he hadn't been too keen on the trek anyway, but when the rumbling had started he'd felt even worse. He was agile and swift, but even he couldn't jump across quite this big a divide. His speed had allowed him to react swiftly to the cries of warning, though, and apart from some dust making him sneeze, he felt hale. Not a scratch on him, which was better than some of his companions.
Their temporary leader, Fox, had warned them in time, but it hadn't stopped others getting hit by debris. And some of it had been heavy. He glanced at the mare - she was a pretty sort he'd seen around and he hoped she'd be able to lead them back safely, somehow. He looked her over, but she seemed mostly fine.
Not far from, looking a bit shaky, he saw Ezmeralda. He moved over, extra careful because rocks littered the path and he didn't want to escape from certain death only to die anyway because he tripped over a boulder. That sounded like a very undignified way to go, even if it sounded like something he'd do.
He paused next to Ezmeralda's flank, nudging her gently. He felt tiny next to her, but maybe he could give her comfort. His puffin chattered away nervously, maybe at Ezmeralda's familiar or just thin air. Pip was easily concerned and he bumped into Tem's legs repeatedly. He'd been up in the air, though, so the stallion didn't worry.
"You okay?" he asked, checking at the way Ezmeralda stood, a bit awkward.
"I'm fine!" he called in reply to Fox, but eyed his friend. They'd had a bit of an unfortunate history, but he considered them friends now. He didn't know her well enough to distinguish hurt from hale, though.
He wasn't sure about the others, either. He didn't know them very well and he didn't know what hurt looked like on their faces. The big guy, Muiris, would probably not say a thing even if he'd broken every bone in his body. He seemed the sort. (Tem liked that sort, but that was a thought for another day.) The winged mare looked tough too and she was speaking freely. The others, he couldn't be sure.
"Is the kid alright?" he questioned, turning his neck.
That they'd had a colt joining them had seemed fine, at first. A nice trip for young legs. A way to get used to traversing this terrain, but in relative safety. It had turned out to not be so safe after all.
"I can still fly. If you need me to," the winged scout said.
Tem nodded. There was that, at least. The pegasus, with her leathery wings, could at the very least get help if needed.
"You might even be able to carry the kid across, but I'd say the big guy over there is a bit too heavy. But then, I've seen less impressive mares carry bigger things." Tem motioned towards Muiris with his head and grinned. "I could send my puffin for help, though. If we have any parchment, we could send a message."
Not that he had any idea what the others could do. Send some pegasus, maybe, and a harness. Or some food to tide them over until the bridge was fixed. That would take ages, though. Maybe they would have to fight their way through the rocks and find another crossing. It sounded terrifying, if Tem were honest. And who would feed his flock while he was gone?!
"Oh bother," he muttered to himself. This was going to be a long day.

Nivinara [ War-Forged | Medic ]
This had been too close for comfort. Their journey was not suppose to go this way. It was suppose to be just a simple uneventful trip in and out of town and as fate would have it the bridge fell. Along with it triggering the mountains around them into utter chaos, with the group escaping just in time. Nivinara had already had to live through the absolute fear of being caught in an avalanche before and she didn't think she would last through another. Yet somehow she managed to escape with only cuts and scrapes. Thank the Gods because she was sure Q wouldn't be able to save her this time if she fell. That had been pure luck he even cared enough to help and that she even survived, this she would have surely perished from. The young medic had collapsed once she reached the path, gasping for air at that point, having run as fast as her legs could carry her to get to safety. It had all been in panic mostly, she knew the sounds of an avalanche and now it would always send terror straight into her heart, even the thought of being caught in one again. The tiny mare swallowed thickly staring down at the jagged cliffs and mounds of rock and snow beneath the broken bridge, the memory of being trapped under ice and snow still fresh in her mind. And the suffocating... She felt as if her breath was being taken away at just the mere thought of it. When the others spoke up she managed to tear her gaze away from the ruined bridge and glance around at the horses nearby, all just as startled and scared as she was, but perhaps for not the same reasons. Normally she would have stayed to herself and allowed the others to figure it out, but upon hearing the call for a medic -and she was sure someone had complained of pain but didn't catch who had done so- she knew she couldn't abandon her duties to the group for the sake of calming her own fears at the moment. "I'm a medic," She finally called, standing up and giving herself a light shake to wake herself up so to say. Might as well be useful while they figured out a way for them to get out of this mess, "Who's injured aside from cuts and scrapes?" Everyone appeared to be cut up from the falling rocks, but cuts would heal over time, she was more worried about those with severe injuries.

Chirin War-forged Herder
'get back, damnit! get back!'
Chirin had already began leading his Apanas across the bridge when the warning had sounded behind him. He had recognized the mare as a Scout, but didn't know her otherwise. The bridge had already begun to shatter by the time he realized his mistake. Fear shot through him as the sides of it fell away into the chasim below.
Immediately he called Maple back as he turned on a dime to get back to the relative safty of the mountain pass. The little dog had been pushing the Apanas forward with her half-hearted barks when the section of the bridge in front of her fell away, taking Chirin's Apana herd with it. Thank Kaia that Maple was obedient and fast.
They had both made it to the pass, albeit, just barely. Chirin lost his footing, sliding down the mountains face until the flow of debris stopped. He hadn't been buried. Only his back legs were somewhat concealed within the loose earth and rocks. He could hear Maple barking at him from the rock ledge above.
Coughing, Chirin shook his head to try and clear his dizzynes. Something warm ran down the side of his left cheek. The familiar feeling told Chirin that it was blood. He snorted and hauled himself from the rubble and instantly noticed the pain that scorched up the side of his right back leg. Ignoring the pain, he trotted his way up the landslide and back onto the solid ground of the pass, giving one final lunge to push himself up and over.
He heaved a large breath through his nose and turned to face the gaping expanse were the bridge once stood with wide eyes. He was trembling and his leg hurt like hell. Taking a deep breath, he closed his eyes and repeated the process until his heart rate slowed down. Panicking was going to get him nowhere. He had to calm down.
He looked down at Maple who was sitting by his side whining as she looked down into the blackness. Taking one final deep breath, Chirin shook himself, a small plume of rock dust fluffing off his wool coat. A voice caught his ear,
“Is the kid alright?”
He flicked his tail, scanning the group of horses and responded, “I'm fine.”

He had felt it too. At first, just a whisper of a tremble, tickling his hooves. He would have missed it if he hadnt been paying so close attention. Like a shock, the sensation of the crumbling Earth below coursed through his veins, soaking into his core. Ever since he had been visited by Kaia at his mother’s grave, he had been feeling a closer connection to the world he lived in. While he had been given two weeks of travel back to Onea to figure out his new found blessing, nothing was more terrifying than feeling the Earth crumble below him before it even began.
He had taken to the back of the group as he usually did while on a patrol, as he felt that was the place he could protect everyone better. He walked in silence, his ears on a swivel and eyes constantly on the move. His muscles were tense under a dark hide, ready to spring at anything that dared to attack the group of war-bred equine.
His team consisted of some familiar faces; Fox and Kell, whom he had been with during the night of the Bloodletting. Just thinking of those dark stormy skies made his skin prick, the ghost feeling of the Gytrash’s claws digging through his cheeks all too real even now. Even to the point that he found himself slightly on edge that the kid's dog had decided to tag along. Fox he was closer to, and he was proud that his sister had been chosen to lead such a mission- it was almost as if he could see her growing before his eyes. And finally Ezmeralda, the mare who had occupied his busy thoughts ever since he had met her.. He found himself glancing her way every now and then, but kept his distance for the sake of efficiency.
He examined the others quickly, taking note of their professions and nothing more. He was here to protect, not make friends. Not that he was in the mood to talk anyways, considering the past happenings in Eithne still weighed heavily on his shoulders. He hoped the mission would give him a break.. distract his busy mind.. but he wasnt planning on the distraction going this far. . “Fox-!” He started to shout out a warning, but his painted friend had already noticed. Studded hooves dug into the ground as he plowed back away from the falling bridge, fiberglass, rocks, and dust splattering his face and chest. The crashing sound was deafening. He was unharmed, more so because he had been in the back of the group. He couldnt say the same for his companions, as they all shook off aftermath and checked for injuries.
Muiris himself gave a good shake of his coat, dust poofing off him like a cloud before settling by his hooves. His war hammer was still snug across his shoulder, his dragon claw necklace buried into its straps from the blow. His first instinct was to check on Ezmeralda, but he noticed a smaller stallion whom he didnt recognize had already taken care of that. The large roan stallion’s ears flicked to the side, but he decided to let it pass. He was about to continue his way down the line to check on the others, until the voice of said smaller stallion reached his ears. "You might even be able to carry the kid across, but I'd say the big guy over there is a bit too heavy. But then, I've seen less impressive mares carry bigger things." He felt his face warm from the comment, his hooves already moving to get him as far away from that conversation as he could.
And this brought him alongside Fox.
Muiris’ head craned back as he stared at the chasm before them and the rubble under their hooves. A glance behind him showed no sign of help either; a massive wall of snow and rubble blocking their way out. “Well shit.” He muttered under his breath with an exasperated sigh. He could still feel his bones rattling from the wreckage. “Are you okay, Fox?” He finally asked, dipping his head to the side and glancing down at the shorter mare beside him. His long forelock flopped off his face, revealing minor cuts from the fiberglass against his face. Small droplets of blood smeared the white paint among the bridge of his nose, but it was nothing to fuss over.

Ezmeralda | War-Forged | Herder
She winced just as she felt someone come alongside her, causing her to jump a little in surprise. Her eyes widened slightly as if she had been caught doing something she shouldn't have been doing, and she tried to play off the pain in her leg by placing it gently back onto the ground. "T-tem! I-I'm... okay. Just some cuts and bruises." Ezmeralda stuttered, adjusting her weight awkwardly until she accidentally placed weight on her injured leg. "Ouch!" She exclaimed, quickly lifting up her hind leg to keep herself from placing weight on it again. Her green eyes looked sheepishly down at the smaller stallion as she spoke, "I-I'm pretty sure it's just a sprain. I-it's not that serious." Ezmeralda played it off, shaking her head. Looking down at it, she could see blood dripping into her feathers, coating the white in dark red. Well, it was hard to pretend you weren't that hurt when your injury looked that bad.
Her attention was taken off of her own pain by the child that Tem asked about. Ezmeralda's eyes widened as the little colt crawled from his place halfway in the rubble, shaking off the dust from his pelt. "A-are you sure? The medic can take care of anything serious." She worried, tilting her head toward the chestnut mare who had offered her services. "Why don't you have her take a quick look at you just in case?"
She listened silently to the conversations around her. She had nothing to offer though: no bright ideas or helpful gifts. Her ears flicked toward the large, pegasus mare with the leathery wings as she offered to fly to get help. "You might even be able to carry the kid across, but I'd say the big guy over there is a bit too heavy. But then, I've seen less impressive mares carry bigger things." She heard Tem say, and it brought a bright blush to her cheeks when she realized what he might be hinting at. 'Oh Kaia, n-no. P-p-please tell me he's joking. I-I did not just hear that.' Ezmeralda thought, looking over at Mui who was looking the other way as he spoke quietly with Fox. Oh gods, she had no idea what she would do if Tem flirted with Muiris. She'd probably just end up a blushing, stuttering mess.... well, more of a blushing, stuttering mess than she already was anyways.
As the dust settled, Ezmeralda peered over at the other side of the chasm, seeing the other half of their group on the other side of the massive abyss. "L-look! I think everyone else made it across the bridge onto the other side." She said, hoping to be at least a little bit helpful. The unicorn mare limped heavily toward the giant canyon, careful not to place very much weight on her injured leg. "D-do you think we could maybe send them a message somehow? L-let them know we're all okay?" She asked, turning her head toward Fox and Muiris. Her gaze lingered a little bit on Muiris now that she was close enough to get a better look at him. Other than the blood on his nose (which still hurt her to see), he seemed uninjured which was a relief to her. "Tem could send his puffin, or I could send mine. If we don't have parchment though, sending the p-pegasus mare might be more h-helpful." Ezmeralda stuttered, feeling bad for not knowing the mare's name.

Tem | Herder
It looked like he'd been one of the more fortunate ones. Next to him, Ezmeralda stood awkwardly - it looked like she was favouring one of her legs and was that blood?? - and some ways away even that hulk of a stallion, Muiris, had blood running down his handsome face. Who knew how the others had fared, especially if they did as Ezmeralda had and pretended nothing had befallen them.
Luckily they'd been joined by a medic when they set out - a sensible decision, especially considering their predicament - and Tem sighed in relief. He didn't know the chestnut mare well, but medics were usually trustworthy.
"Who's injured aside from cuts and scrapes?" the medic asked. She seemed ready to get to work and Tem appreciated her calm. They'd need it.
"Maybe check the kid over first, then this one over here," he replied, nudging his friend gently. "She's being all heroic, but I think she's hurt."
Not that he blamed her. Showing weakness was always dangerous, especially in worrisome situations like this. She had friends here, though, and they'd take care of her. In fact, it seemed like his friend and the big stallion knew each other. That sounded like a very advantageous friendship. He suspected if Muiris had to choose between her and someone else in their little herd, he might choose her. Tem sighed. Trust his life to be that way. Handsome stallions were always much too concerned with pretty mares.
"The hero look works for you, though," he said to Ezmeralda, grinning. "If you were at all my type I'd be swooning right now."
The colt, Chirin, seemed to be using all his limbs, but Tem couldn't really judge how well. He didn't really knew the kid well enough to judge whether he'd hide injuries, so he just hoped the medic would give him a good once-over. They had a tough enough time getting out of this alive without hidden issues making it worse.
Muiris, looking even more impressive with blood all over his nose, seemed to be taking stock of everyone, but passed Tem and Ezmeralda by. The small stallion wasn't sure if that was a compliment or an insult, really. Had his comment made the other stallion blush, though? That was just too cute, really. In fact, it made Tem smile. He didn't usually have much of an impact on stallions he liked - except maybe pissing them off and that really wasn't his intention - so this was a welcome change of pace. Blushing could mean so many wonderful things. Maybe Muiris liked small stallions like Tem?
He turned his head, about to make a sly comment to Ezmeralda, but the mare was looking at Muiris as well and it just made Tem chuckle. "At least the view is nice, right?"
The wall of stone, snow, and dead trees blocking their way was something else, though. It looked heavy and a lot of work. Even with all of Muiris' muscles doing their job, it'd take some heavy labour to fix this mess.
"Okay, maybe that view isn't so nice," he muttered, gaze firmly on what was keeping them trapped.
Suddenly, he heard noise behind them. He turned, keeping his side against Ezmeralda in case she needed the support. Across the ravine he could see shapes. Was that the rest of their group? Oh, he so hoped no one had plunged to his or her death.
"L-look! I think everyone else made it across the bridge onto the other side."
Tem nodded at his friend. He couldn't count all the figures, but it seemed about right.
"We should definitely check to see if they're okay. Maybe they have an idea of how to get us out of here," he agreed when she offered to send their puffin. "I could use my sonic voice, but I'm afraid the vibrations may do more harm than good. I don't want the rest of the mountain collapsing on us."

Checkpoint One: You’ve taken stock of your injuries, and begun to formulate a plan for getting across the chasm, where you can see another group of your herdmates. You’re racing the sun- no one wants to spend the night on the naked mountain, especially injured and without proper provisions

When she had first been informed about this mission, she had been a little wary about it. She was still a fairly new medic after all. Sativa knew more about healthcare than the equines of other ranks, but she did doubt herself enough to feel anxious about the thought of everyone else relying on her if something were to happen. Nivinara's presence did calm her a little bit, but she still wasn't confident. She had seen most of these equines from afar, but never spoken to anyone. So it was fair to say that she felt like an outsider. There was a young colt though, a unicorn with a dog. Sativa took comfort in knowing that he too must've been a little scared and that he too probably didn't know everyone else very well. But those weren't facts, that's just what she had guessed. This far the mission had proved quite uneventful, and part of her was hoping it would stay that way, the other half wanted something to happen.
Given her loss of hearing, Sativa's other senses were slightly stronger than those of other equines. She hadn't received a blessing yet, but her sensitive hooves felt the vibrations a few seconds before the incident. However it was not enough time for her to react or warn anyone. She could tell that the chestnut mare - Fox - had tried to warn everyone though. Fox was too far away and facing the other way, so there was no way for Sativa to interpret what she was yelling, but her body language was alarming. Before she had a chance to react, the surface started to give in where she was standing. In a quick attempt to get out of harm's way she span around and leaped backwards. Giant boulders fell like hail around her and the others, and she managed to maneuver between quite a few of them without getting hit, until a smaller rock - about the size of her hooves - hit her right between her eyes. The pale mare was knocked unconscious mid-stride, and her body kept moving forward as her head landed between her front legs - turning her gallop into a wild somersault.
Sativa opened her eyes and was struck by a feeling of panic, but quickly calmed herself down enough to take a deep breath. Her vision was blurred and her head was aching. Through the dust she was able to see several silhouettes. Three mares, one large stallion, one small stallion and the colt. Everyone appeared to be talking to eachother, but she wasn't able to make out any words. "Is everyone okay?" she asked in a slightly raised voice, making sure everyone would hear her. "I can't see very well..." she said in a quieter manner. After a few seconds of getting her balance back, she got up on her hooves but stayed put. She was afraid she might've acquired a concussion, and didn't want to take the risk of falling down another time.

Nivinara [ War-Forged | Medic ]
No horse had directly answered her and Nivinara felt as if either A, no one was seriously hurt which would be a blessing in itself. But there was always option B. Someone was playing it off and trying not to be the weak link, while it was normal for horses like them, living in the mountains and such, it was dangerous in any given situation and she honestly wished they wouldn't do that. It just makes her job harder. But there was no changing their minds just like that. Besides she was already pretty sure who was worst off. The colt Chirin and the unicorn mare both seemed to have lame hind legs and the another mare, Sative, seemed to have knocked her head. They could move however, even if the limping mare seemed to be in more pain. I really hope its not a broken leg... Nivinara thought as she watched the older mare move over to the edge of the broke bridge, trying to judge how badly she was injured by the way she moved. The medic's attention was distracted only for a moment when it was discovered that others had made it to the other side of the gorge. At least some of them made it to safety. But now she worried about their health as well. What if someone was worse off over there? By the Gods, she hoped they had a medic with them as well. Well she couldn't worry about it now, she had to take of the injured before worrying about much else. What was the mare's name? Ezmeralda she believed, at least that's what she heard the others call her. "Ezmeralda please come away from the cliff so I can check your leg." Nivinara called to the mare, more worried that with a lame leg she would end up slipping. She then turned her attention to Chirin, knowing very well he was trying to play off his own pain, "You too Chirin. I need to check that leg of yours as well."There was another pressing matter however. The other medic, Sative, had yet to move after she stood up and it was deeply concerning. Nivinara had to focus more to even hear what she said. Oh Kaia, she couldn't see? Perhaps she wasn't blind but failing vision was something that left her unable to aid the others, at least until it cleared up. "Sative, don't move." She said quickly, though she doubted she needed to with the mare being a medic herself, "How hard do you think you hit your head?" She asked, keeping an eye on the other two to be sure they weren't ignoring her call. By the Gods... So many injured and so little supplies they had. She prayed to Kaia they'd find a way out of this soon.

Chirin War-Forged Herder Oh gosh....
So many of the other horses were concerned for his safety that it left Chirin feeling a little flustered. He barely even knew any of these horses and they were all worried about him? Him? Of all other things to worry about aside from injuries, why, on Kaia's green earth would they pick him!? He was just a small, fluffy runt with nothing to contribute to the group at this time, other than an extra pain in the ass they could most likely do without.
“You too Chirin. I need to check that leg of yours as well.”
Chirin couldn't help but smile a bit and cock a brow at the speckled red medic. Of course Nivinara would call him on his bluff. She'd seen his stubbornness before and definitely knew better. He sassily rolled his eyes and snorted, keeping that smile on his face.
Turning around to obey Nivi's order, his wound became visible to the other horses as he walked. It was a six-inch-long gash up the side of his leg, just above the hock, barely missing the tendons. It bled steadily, darkening his wooly fur and staining the white by his hooves. He did limp and favor his leg, but only slightly, trying not to look weak in front of the stronger horses..... which was pretty much everyone. It still hurt to use the muscle, but he couldn't afford to let a cut stop him from walking.
Aside from the slight shakiness of his injured leg, Chirin's stride was firm and calm.
He came to a stop in front of the medic, taking his weight off the bloody leg to allow her to examine it,
“It really doesn't hurt that much. I can still walk on it.” he told her.
“Honestly, I'm more concerned about the lady with the pink horns.”

"I"m fine, Muiris, are you?" Blood was soaked into the white on his face and it threw her off. He was scar-ridden, sure, but it was worrisome to see fresh wounds on him. She nipped him on the shoulder and nodded toward Ezmeralda. "Go take care of your friend." In lighter circumstances she would have winked at him.
The small freckled mare in their party announced her role as a medic. Fox wrinkled her nose. Wasn't the pale one a medic too? Wait- where was she?! A flood of panic ran through Fox, until she spotted the pale mare through the clouds of dust settling, and Nivinara was already there checking on her. Whew.
"I can still fly. If you need me to." For the first time ever, Fox envied Kell's wings. If nothing else, they were at least useful.
She looked backward at the gaping chasm, now an empty shell of their secure way home. The sun was starting to dip in its orbit, a whisper that afternoon was treading along and night would come sooner than they all wanted.
Was she the leader now? She felt the tremors before the bridge fell, and out of the corners of their eyes, everyone seemed to look to her for answers or a solution. She was a Scout though, and alongside Kell they'd be the best saviors of this party.
"Kell!" she called to the winged mare. "Do you know a way backwards out of here? Pushing through that pile of rocks behind us may be our best option..." Her voice trailed off. Now that she looked at it, the pile of rubble blocking the trail they had just emerged from was massive. Small rocks tumbled down, but large boulders had come with it- boulders Fox wasn't sure even Muiris could move.
She lowered her voice, keeping her eye on the group while speaking to the dappled mare. "I honestly don't know how to get out of this." Kell was grumpy, stone-cold, even abrasive, but she was her best shot. "I only know the route forward, and that solution is sitting at the bottom of the chasm."
She crept closer to the edge, leaning over just far enough to see the clouded remains of their bridge. A small river ran through like a snake. The cliff walls were steep and jagged, spotted with bushes and brush that clung to their sides like spiderwebs. The thought of descending down there made her shiver.
Her sinuses started to pound with a headache, and she closed her eyes. Why, pray Kaia, did this happen.

His lips pursed when she mentioned that she was fine, his brow furrowing slightly. Maybe it was just because they were so close, but he could nearly feel the panic radiating off her. He wasnt worried, though, he knew she would find an idea up in that creative mind of hers. He quickly shifted his attention back to Ezmeralda, who he hadnt even noticed came up beside them until she spoke up. He scanned her quickly for any injuries. Of course she had the typical minuscule scrapes and bruises that they all fared, but his eyes widened as he found the blood pooling around her back leg. Just the sight of it sent an uneasy, painful feeling in his chest. "We should probably get that checked out.. just in case." He said quietly, biting his lip as he nudged his painted friend away from the edge of the cliff. Small stones and rubble fell from the edge as he moved his hooves, bouncing and sliding their way down to the bottom and settling on the destruction of the bridge.
How were they going to get out of this. He gave a glance to Tem, who he hadnt even seen on the other side of Ezzie, just because the other stallion was so short. His brow quirked and ears flicked forward. Sonic voice, eh? That may be helpful down the line..
The stallion helped Ezmeralda to the medic, not giving her a chance to protest; and even if she tried, he would have none of it. Being a Raider, he understood the want to fight through injuries, but it also made him understand how much of a bad idea that was. He gave a glance back to Fox as she spoke to Kell before giving in to the overwhelming urge to wrap his friend in a hug. He buried his muzzle into her mane, pressing his face against her neck. It was brief, as he didnt want to.. embarrass her or anything; he just wanted to make sure she was okay.. especially after the avalanche. He could only imagine how terrible that had made her feel.
"Im glad you're okay." He muttered softly, stepping back. His muzzle twitched as he suddenly realized how much of a mush he had probably looked like. Here he was, the only warrior of the group, expected to stay strong in a crisis, and he was getting all soft over an injured friend. Ah well. A lopsided grin crossed his face as he tipped his head toward the medic, urging her forward.

Kell was no healer, and she counted herself lucky most days. Today was not one of them. She had no idea how badly injured any of her companions were, or how injuries correlated to stamina. Which was a minor problem, since she couldn't figure out how able anyone was. Likely they were all more injured than they appeared, and were hiding it; that was certainly the case with her. Noble, and a habit, but it wasn't helpful.
She whipped her head around and gave the shorter stallion who had spoken a good, searing glare. "I won't be bearing anyone's weight this time around," she snapped, laying back her ears. Did he think her a slut or something? "And I do have a name, you know," she informed the other mare tautly, though in not so harsh a tone. "'s Kell." She supposed she could forgive the unicorn for that; her name wasn't something she expected the whole herd to know.
Her flaring temper was calmed somewhat by Fox, and by the situation at hand. She studied the mass of boulders and debris skeptically. "We could maybe move some o' it - or climb on top of it if we were really desperate - but it would take all our strength, and maybe even start another avalanche. Dunno 'bout you, but I, for one, happen to like being alive," she remarked, one half of her mouth quirked upwards in a smile. "We'll have to find another way."
Glancing at the horses on the other side - the right side - of the fallen bridge, Kell's gaze turned downward. But that was much too steep for nearly anyone. Maybe Fox, a fellow scout, could manage it; perhaps even the stallion she'd spoken harshly to, with his small frame; but they couldn't risk the lives of the medics, or Muiris's girl, or Muiris himself, or the kid. So that was out of the question as well.
She didn't like any of the options they had. She could fly across, sure, but then what? Everyone else would be stuck on the wrong side, and she wasn't about to abandon them.
Kell sighed, closing her eyes for a long moment. "Let's make one thing clear," she told Fox firmly. "I will deliver messages if you want me to. I will not leave you here. If you want me to go to Skeldr Town, I will - but it would be a message only. I'm not waiting there for a rescue team to organize itself; I'd be coming straight back. Are we clear?"

Ezmeralda | War-Forged | Herder
Ezmeralda gave Tem a sheepish grin as he called back to the red coated Medic- Nivinara was her name if she remembered correctly. It was true that it would probably be the best if the medic at least gave her a quick check over to make sure her injured leg wasn’t broken, but she didn’t want her to look at her first. She didn’t want to waste what little medical materials they might have on herself if her leg was indeed broken. “Check everyone else first. I-if my leg is really bad, I-I don’t want to waste supplies on me if it won’t get any better. I'd must rather they be used on someone else if it'll help them.” She explained with a frown.
Her ears swiveled down toward Tem as he spoke, and she couldn’t hold back the little chuckle that escaped her at his joke. “I-I appreciate that, Tem. I really do.” At least her leg didn’t hurt bad enough that she couldn’t have a little laugh, and she really did appreciate Tem’s company and humor. It distracted her from the horror that was their current situation, and it made her feel a bit more comfortable having a friend so close by. “A-are you okay? I’m sorry I forgot to ask. I-I’m such a scatterbrain after… this.” She said, looking around at the massive pile of rubble on one side of them and then at the massive chasm on the other. They were in a pickle for sure.
She almost didn’t notice that her eyes lingered a little bit too long on Muiris when he passed by her and Tem until the stallion beside her spoke. Her cheeks flushed as she quickly looked in the opposite direction of the seal bay Raider. “I-I-I… yeah…” She was finally able to spit out, thoroughly embarrassed with herself. He was working and being so professional! What in the world did she think she was doing?
As she stood closer to the edge of the abyss with Tem, she placed some of her weight on his offered help, careful not to place too much on the smaller stallion. The last thing they needed was her clumsy self accidentally pushing someone over the edge. Her head turned at the sound of Nivinara calling her away from the edge, but before she got the chance to hobble away, she was greeted by Muiris’s soft tone as he bit his lip worriedly. “Muiris, t-thanks.” She said with a grateful dip of her head before glancing over at Tem. She had a feeling that she might hear more about this later on.
Placing a good deal of her weight on Muiris’s side, she was able to keep most of the weight off of her injured back leg while he guided her toward the medic. “Let everyone else get checked out first though. Sativa looks pretty bad, and the young kid, Chirin, has a leg injury too.” She worried over everyone, especially after hearing Sativa say she couldn’t see that well after escaping the avalanche, but Ezmeralda had a feeling that there was no arguing with him.
The painted unicorn breathed slightly heavier than usual after the extra effort it had taken to limp over to the medic. The blood from the wound on her leg still dripped onto the ground below her, but she was quickly distracted from her pain and worries when she felt Muiris wrap her in a tight hug. She took in a quiet, surprised gasp at the unexpected contact, but Ezmeralda’s muscles quickly untensed, hugging him back before the moment was over. Her green eyes looked up at him, offering him a warm smile. “It’s a relief to know you’re okay too.” She admitted, knowing how much more distraught she would probably be if he had been hurt. “And I’m glad you’re here…. But I-I’m not glad that you’re stuck on a mountain w-what I-I mean is…” Ezmeralda paused awkwardly as she fought with herself to make some kind of sense. “T-thanks for helping me.” She was finally able to say, praying that he knew what she meant by all her crazy babbling.

Tem | Herder
The commotion around Tem wavered a bit, but returned full force. The equines were vehement in their discussions and he wanted to speak up, but it would have been difficult to be heard over so many voices. He was only a small unicorn, after all. He listened, though, and made sure to keep an eye on the mountainside. He had no intention of letting an avalanche cover them just after they'd survived a bridge collapse. That'd be about as awkward a death as just walking off one of the cliffs. And he'd imagined both.
"Is everyone okay?" a shaky voice asked and Tem looked up to see a mare he hadn't noticed before. He'd seen her around, though. It was the pretty deaf one. Satine, or something. He'd not talked to her a lot, though, and knew very little about her.
She looked shaken up - he didn't blame her - and a bit uneasy. It made Tem want to rush over and prop her up, like he'd done Ezmeralda. He didn't know her, however, and it could be weird. Tem was weird enough without sudden physical contact. She might just kick him in the face and that was one of his more charming features, if he were honest. It certainly wasn't going to be his personality that won stallions over. He had enough scars on his face to show a bit of character, but not distract from anything.
"We're reasonably okay," he spoke, looking straight at her. The tiny stallion knew little about deafness, but he did know that they needed to be able to lipread where possible. "What about you? Do you require help of any sort? I am, well, a very helpful sort, no pun intended!"
Their medic started ordering the wounded around, then, and Tem sighed in relief. He nudged Ezmeralda, hoping she'd let the mare look at her wounds. They'd need her and the colt as hale as they could be, especially if they were to get out of this ridiculous situation. Satine too. Luckily the healer seemed intent on helping all of them. It made Tem feel useless, frankly. Look at all these accomplished mares taking the lead and here he was, fearsome stallion, standing around being hopelessly out of his depth. He could just feel Pip judge him from his perch on a nearby rock.
"Wow, even the colt is heroic," Tem commented after Chirin's brave words. The wound looked mean, but he didn't seem to feel it. "I am happy to play the damsel in distress in this situation, really. Maybe someone can carry me to safety."
He grinned at all of them, but Muiris in particular. He'd be the logical choice, of course.
Fox's leadership turned pragmatic when she began discussing options. Tem hadn't been this way before and just looking at the rubble surrounding them made him wonder how they'd ever get back. When he looked more closely, it didn't look all bad, though. With a bit of luck and effort, they might be able to push free. He'd let the mares decide, though. The winged one, Kell, seemed knowledgeable, because Fox was inquiring for information. If Fox thought the other mare would know what to do, then Tem was happy to put his faith in her as well.
Next to him, Ezmeralda spoke softly and smiled. "I'm fine, don't you worry. Boulders wouldn't bother hitting me, of all equines. And I'm small enough to not attract them, I think. Just focus on your own wounds first and we'll talk later."
He grinned slyly at her. "Congratulations, by the way. He's handsome."
Ezmeralda moved away from him and Tem watched as that large stallion, Muiris, took stock of her. There was gentleness there, his words soft. It was obvious he cared.
"Im glad you're okay," Muiris spoke to Ezmeralda. Tem could barely hear, but he did.
Oh. He was aware of many things, so he also noticed the caress the stallion gave her. It spoke of a kind of affection Tem hadn't been blessed with yet. It was rather obvious. Muiris' eyes all but glanced over Tem and he felt so completely tiny in that moment. What had he been thinking? Of course he barely got noticed next to his pretty friend. Of course Muiris initial reaction to his words hadn't been a good thing. It had been silly to think that this time, just maybe...but no. No, he shouldn't think like that. Not in this situation. Not when they were all in danger and his friend, whom he liked a great deal, seemed to have found such a great, handsome stallion to care for her. He'd be petty to be jealous. Even if he'd been in this position so many times that knew all the moves to make and what expression to plaster on his face to appear unfazed. Luckily he was a good actor.
It helped that Ezmeralda's reaction was adorable. She was a stuttering, blushing mess and it made him want to hug her. It wouldn't have been a hardship, being married to her, but for both their sakes he was glad it hadn't happened. Ezmeralda deserved to find actual love, not just fondness.
He was about to make a smart comment - something about Ezmeralda being mean, hoarding the handsomest stallion in their midst - but he was interrupted. At least it drew his attention away from less pleasant things.
"I won't be bearing anyone's weight this time around."
Tem tensed. The winged mare sounded angry and he wasn't sure what for. He'd complimented her, hadn't he? He'd called her impressive. Strong. He had no doubt she could carry him across anything with those powerful wings of hers. Had he done something else to offend her? Did she not like talking? He talked a great deal, so that was going to be an issue.
"I'm sorry?" he tried. He wasn't sure for what, but she seemed like she could tear him to bits, so he might as well say it. Just in case.
She seemed very forceful, if her words to Fox were anything to go by. Maybe that's what they needed. More so than an awkward stallion, barely tall enough to look over the boulders.
Tem looked up at the sky, watching the sun climb higher and higher, and sighed. How were they ever going to get out of this?

Nivinara [ War-Forged | Medic ]
Nivinara continued her check up of Sative while the others lumbered over and she was satisfied to find that while yes she did receive a concussion from the hit, it wasn't anything life threatening. It only seemed to have been enough to give her a slight cut on her forehead and no other immediate damage. She was also relieved to find that her forehead wasn't swollen as much as it was when she came over. "You'll be alright in due time. Let me know if you feel dizzy or any other pain." For Sative she was sure she'd recover, Nivinara wasn't sure about the damage to her eyes however. She'd have to keep and eye on that. Now on to the next patient. Ezmeralda was taking her good ol' time getting over here, but it seemed another horse was trying to corral her over anyway so she was patient enough to wait while she checked on Chirin. Just as she turned to face him, she felt dread settle in when she saw all the blood and the deep gash traveling up his leg. It seemed deep, but she was absolutely positive that he wouldn't be able to use it if the tendon's had been cut. She was busy going over possible remedies and ways she could get that wound covered when she heard him speak and she scowled, "Stop being stubborn, Chirin. How can you honestly tell me that doesn't hurt?" This colt was going to be the death of her she swore it. Always trying to be brave... It was admirable, but stupid. With a better view of the leg Nivinara lowered her head to get a better look at it, and it seemed her assumption was right. The tendons were safe, and while deep it was something that would heal over time, given it had time to heal. And with Chirin's life still she would need to be on him constantly about resting his leg. In the meantime, she had enough supplies to get both himself and Ezmeralda patched up. "I'll be with you in a moment, Ezmeralda." Nivinara said, reaching behind her for the saddlebag on her back and pulled it off, placing it on the ground to being searching through its contents for what she needed. What she had really was items only able to hold them over until they got back to town where most of her medical supplies was. So for now she'd just have to bandage them up and wait until they got back to town to give them a thorough cleaning and mending. "Stand still," She murmured, after pulling out a cloth and stepping over to him. She lowered her head and used the piece of cloth to gently pat down the wound and clean up the blood as best she could before she could attempt to bandage it.

Slowly but steadily, her vision was starting to get clearer. She closed her eyes tightly and as she opened them again she sighed heavily. If she lost her vision - or even had it impaired - there's no telling what she'd do. Reading lips is the only way she can tell what others are saying to her, and if she lost that ability then she might as well just move out into the forest and live on her own again. And that's not something she wanted to do, especially not given the... circumstances. Joining the War-Forged wasn't anything she had really considered earlier in her life, but when she met that raider stallion, she knew she wanted to have him around. Even though that wasn't possible, she still thought it better to align herself to a herd as strong and considerate as the War-Forged. Still, the only ones who were aware of her pregnancy was the stone circle. Sativa didn't see the point in telling anyone else yet, they'd just walk on eggshells around her and sugarcoat everything in order to not trigger her mood swings. Despite everything though, she was doing alright. After all, things could be worse - she could've gone blind.
The pale mare gave her head a gentle shake to move her mane out of her face. She still didn't feel very steady on her hooves, but steady enough to lift her head up and look around. Nivinara told her not to move, but she didn't have any plans on doing that just yet. "How hard do you think you hit your head?" the other medic asked. "Hard enough to have been knocked out for a few minutes, but I'll recover." The smaller stallion was looking at her as well, and he appeared surprisingly calm. "We're reasonably okay. What about you? Do you require help of any sort? I am, well, a very helpful sort, no pun intended!" he said. Sativa couldn't help but giggle. "Dammit, laughing hurts my head. Try to be less charming, will you?" she snickered.
Nivinara said to inform her if her condition got any worse, but for now it wasn't acute. "I'll be fine. Don't worry." she replied and glanced at Tem. He mentioned something about wanting to get carried to safety and Sativa made an effort not to laugh. She was grateful to have someone who was trying to lighten the mood. The chestnut medic had moved on to the colt, and the lovebirds were awaiting her service as well. Affection like the one that Ezmeralda and Muiris shared was one of Sativa's pet peeves. Not the fact that they cared for eachother, but the fact that they didn't really act on it. Sure, don't make a scene - this certainly wasn't a good moment to make a move - but life's too short to not act on it. Their time together could be spent blissfully and shamelessly in love, rather than acting like they're "just" friends. However, she didn't have a clue how long they'd known eachother or the nature of their relationship - but it was quite obvious that they both wanted more. At least that's what it appeared like to her. But maybe she was just envious.
The dust had almost set now, and Sativa could see Fox talking to the other scout. The pegasus was busy snapping at Tem, and she appeared to be slightly offended that he hadn't mentioned her by name. This was lucky for Sativa, because she too hadn't picked up on the scout's name until now. Kell. She had a very interesting appearance, rugged and bruised, very appealing. And her wings weren't just majestic, but very useful right now. Sativa wasn't able to move or do much physically, but she was still able to talk. "Kell?" she asked, making sure the mare would hear her over the diffuse chitchat. "If you're going into town, your priorities of things to bring back should be water and blankets. And some medical supplies if possible. Dying of thirst or freezing to death seems like a dumb idea right now. We'll need that stuff no matter what we decide to do next." she said and looked over at Fox. "I think we're gonna be here for a while." Perhaps she was taking up too much room by basically telling the scout what to do, but it was with the entire group's well being in mind. "Oh, and Kell... Thank you."

Chirin War-Forged Herder
“Wow, even the colt is heroic, I am happy to play the damsel in distress in this situation, really. Maybe someone can carry me to safety.”
Chirin immediately let out an undignified snort as he tried (and failed miserably) to keep from laughing at the small bay unicorn, that the sound had caused Maple to cock her head to the side and give him an odd look.
It hadn't gone unnoticed to the colt that the smaller unicorn was clearly the comic relief. Needless to say, Chirin appreciated the laugh. At least someone was trying to brighten the mood.
“Stop being stubborn, Chirin. How can you honestly tell me that doesn't hurt?”
The roan colt looked up at the Medic, then back at the other horses. His green eyes landed on a rosy, dapple grey mare.
A Scout, definitely, judging by the way she held herself. He think he heard her say her name was Kell? She...... well... she reminded him a bit of Froya, actually. Nothing but jagged outer layers, but perhaps there was a softer side to her somewhere.
But Kaia help you if you piss her off.
Out of all the horses there, she was the one he didn't want to look weak in front of. He just couldn't bring himself to do it. He had heard how she had snapped at Tem and would greatly prefer if that wrath wasn't directed at him. Gods know that he would break under her.
Turning his head towards Nivinara, Chirin sighed, the rubble at his hooves suddenly very interesting, “Sorry,” the colt mumbled, just barely audible to the medic, “I guess.... maybe it does hurt a little.” he admitted. WOW, did that make him feel small.
“I'll be with you in a moment, Ezmeralda.”
He turned his head to look over his shoulder at the mare with the pink horns. 'So that's her name.' he thought.
“Stand still,”
Chirin did as instructed by the medic until she was done bandaging his leg. He gently re-applied weight onto his leg and walked away so that Nivinara could tend to someone else. His gaze drifted back to the other side of the bridge where the other group of horses was.
A familiar dark coat with white lightening-strike markings caught his eye.
'There is no way that is Soriano!'
Chirin really should have been watching where he was going because he ended up walking right into the chest of a big, scarred, seal bay stallion. Instantly he threw himself into full reverse,
“S-Sorry, Sorry! I-I didn't see you!”
Chirin was mortified to say the least.

Fox felt the shift in attention. After assessing their inward injuries, some starting looking outward and mumbling about their predicament- and its sorely limited solutions.
Fox sighed. Sure, she could cross steep and jagged terrain- she did it often. And Kell could easily fly. But everyone else... well, she wasn't sure of their agility or precision. For instance, she looked at Muiris's giant plate-sized hooves. They were great weapons in battle but not for this.
"All right!" she called to everyone. "Let's talk."
If there was anything she could do in this situation, it would be taking the reins of conversation & action. Could finally put that big mouth of hers to use. Out of the corner of her eye, she watched Chirin stumble into Muiris's massive chest, and she couldn't help but let out a giggle. Then she cleared her throat.
"Remember, first of all we are War-Forged. Our name literally means born from conflict. We aren't going to die out here. We will get home."
She scanned over all their faces, dirty and bleeding and bruised. She wanted to cry for them. Brittle shadows of the warriors they were meant to be.
"There are two logical solutions- forward or backward. Backward means retracing our steps, pushing through the rocks, and possibly taking another day to get to Skeldr Town. I don't know about you, but I don't want to be stuck here overnight." She didn't want to say the word Vagabonds, but it was ever present on her mind. True, it was probably a slim chance that they'd camp out in the mountains- it was a grueling place to live- but she didn't trust the odds.
"The other option is forward- or, I guess more accurately, downward."
She braced herself for arguments. It sounded crazy- it was crazy.
"We can go as slow as we need. Even at a snail's pace, it will get us home faster than the alternate option. I do have Tremor Sense, I can sense if the rocks are about to crumble or slide." She didn't mention that god forbid that happened, there wasn't really anything they could do about it.
"And then we climb back up. We can travel up or down the chasm to find a path with ample footholds. There's a small river at the bottom, we can drink from it for sustenance if we need it. Kell, we need you to report to the other group on our status and plans. You're our only hope for communication. I'm sure we all wish we had your ability."
She quickly pulled her mane into a running braid to keep it out of her eyes. A cool breeze wandered onto their cliff, tousling all their manes, and Fox took it as Kaia's reassurance that the goddess wouldn't abandon them.
"Are we ready?" She let out a breath she didn't know she'd been holding. Slowly and carefully, she placed one forehoof down on the crumbling cliffside.
"Let's go."

The stallion smiled softly at Ezmeralda as she stuttered a response out. Woops. He picked his head up to glance back toward Fox, about ready to make his way back when something small ran into him. His ears flicked forward, his brow raising as he glanced down to find the tiny colt stumbling back away from him, stuttering all the way back. Muiris' brow knitted together in slight confusion at first, tipping his head to the side and letting his forelock fall from his eyes. He often forgot how large he was and intimidating he seemed to others, when the real fact was, he was probably more scared of them than they were of him. His ears laid to the side as he dipped his head down, bopping the tiny colt on the forehead with a lopsided grin. "No harm done." He replied.
When Fox called them closer, he ambled up to her, his ears erect in paying attention, but his mind reeling with ideas. He certainly didnt like the idea of turning around. Not only would they spend the entire day struggling to move the aftermath of the avalanche, but then they would have to back track. And while he didnt want to think about it, he really didnt want to run into any Vagabonds. He was done with those blasted creatures.
Then she mentioned going down.
His eyes slightly widened at the thought, his gaze drifting down to his own massive hooves. He was a horse built for strength and power, not stamina and freaking rock climbing. He was sure his studded horseshoes were a bonus and would help him for the most part, which he thanked Kaia for silently in the back of his mind, -- oh how weird it felt to be doing that -- but apart from that, this was going to be a bumpy ride. His lips pulled into a tight line as he gave his shorter friend a brisk nod. No use dwelling on the impossibilities; if this is what she said they were going to do, then they were going to damn well do it. He watched as she braided her hair back, pulling his own into a neatly fashioned bun atop his head. He even pulled his mane into it, which he usually didnt do. The cool mountain air played softly against his warm neck, instantly cooling him off and giving him a sense of relief.
She was right, they were War-Forged. This is a piece of cake.
He did the same with his tail, looping it into a loose loop of a pony tail to keep it off the ground. The last thing he needed was to try to trip on it. "I'll stay in the back as to not slow anyone down." He said, his tone implying that it was not up for discussion. The real reason was so he could keep an eye on everyone and keep his nerves at ease.. and so he could try to help with his Earth Manipulation if the had to. He hadnt exactly.. gotten how to use it down completely, but he could figure it out, right? There was nothing like baptism by fire; learn as you go.
He gave a look between each of his team, shuffling to the side to allow them to pass. The smile no longer sat on his lips, but instead the look of determination powered across his features. This was war. War against the mountain. He had been trained to take obstacles like this without a blink of an eye, no matter how impossible it seemed. Tem and Chirin he wasnt worried about in the slightest. They could probably pop down the chasm in half the time it took the others. He wasnt worried for the colt's safety at all; in fact, he was actually a little grateful that he had worked his way into this mess as well. As dangerous as it was, learning experiences came in all shapes and sizes.
The others he knew would be fine as well; the two medics were light enough that they would probably slip here and there every now and then, but nothing too crazy. Fox was trained for inconveniences such as this, and Kell could fly. Ezmeralda had a flock to tend to, and he understood how those slippery beasts could often find their way onto stick terrain. He was sure she had dealt with something similar, but he would keep a careful eye on her anyways.
We're going to be fine, he told himself, his lips twitching as his ears laid back against his neck. Just fine.

Nivinara [ War-Forged | Medic ]
It was a little difficult to get the leg cleaned and wrapped properly without any assistant medic to aid her, but she managed to get Chirin nicely bandaged up without much more trouble. And for that she was proud of herself that was for sure. She never really was able to do anything on her own and this gave her some sort of confidence boost. With the colt out of the way Nivinara turned her attention to Ezmeralda and examined her own leg. It was definitely in the same league as Chirin's wound and this worried her. Two horses with this kind of injury needed immediate rest, yet they still had some ways to go before they could even get home. She could only hope the journey home wouldn't be hazardous, else gashed legs may not be their only problem. "Alright," Nivinara finally sighed, after cleaning and dressing Ezmeralda's wound, "It's all finished, just try and be careful as you walk." She really wanted to tell them to go rest, but Fox already wanted to move on. But she was right, they couldn't stay out here at night. It was far too dangerous and with their group split and injured it was even more so. She would just have to stick with the injured to be sure nothing bad happened to them. "I'm ready," She called out to Fox's question, but she was nervous about traveling downwards into harsh territory with an even bigger possibility for injuries. Quite possibly some she may not be able to mend with how little supplies she had. "I just request we try and tackle this and gently as we can. I don't have enough supplies for any more severe injuries."

Kell | Scout
Kell stared at the frail-looking dunalino mare who was giving her orders as if she had grown a second pair of ears. "I believe I specified messages only," she replied caustically, "since anything else would just slow me down." But now was not the one for such petty arguments, she reminded herself.
A voice distracted her, the words floating across the chasm with a force that was amazing for the small grey mule that shouted it. Kell frowned - she had heard that voice before, hadn't she? The shape was familiar, but she couldn't put a name to it. Either way, they didn't have any booze. Unfortunately.
"Not a drop," she bellowed back. "Shame." Though she supposed it was a blessing that they couldn't get drunk here - it was rather easy to injure yourself here sober, let alone drunk.
Kell nodded quickly in response to Fox's orders, trotting over to the edge of the trail. "Right, then," she remarked. "Seeya in a few."
And she launched herself off the edge of the cliff. A pair of leathery bat wings snapped open a moment later, and with a few flaps of her wings the grey scout alighted on the other side.

Sativa snorted instantly at the unnecessary attitude oozing off the pegasus mare. Messages only, huh? How in the world would that be as useful as actual supplies? She shook her head lightly with the intent to wake herself up as well as shake off the negativity and stress that was soon to be smothering her if she didn't start thinking productively. "Whatever." she said as she started walking towards the rest of the group. Sativa was still convinced that the best idea would be to stay and rest for a few hours. If they'd have such trouble getting out of this place, what made anybody think that vagabonds would be able to reach them? Being a former vagabond herself she didn't really fear them either, but that was probably the lone wanderer inside her talking. With one of their medics with a fresh concussion and two other members with deep wounds in their legs - how could anyone think it was a good idea to start moving instantly? Maybe it was time for her to stop asking so many questions, but it sure was a difficult thing to do when she didn't agree with any of the decisions being made. If she had felt like an outsider before, things weren't getting any better. Perhaps joining this herd was a mistake after all, but now wasn't the time to question that.
As Nivinara requested that no one else obtained any more injuries, it took every fiber of Sativa's being not to do an eye roll. Obviously no one would make an effort to get hurt, would they? Her patience was long gone but she took a deep breath and put on her best poker face. What she wouldn't do to be anywhere but here, with anyone but these equines. The dunalino mare raised her head and drew her ears back, trying not to get anymore dust in them. Her leaf green cloak had lost its luster as it was covered in dust, but she was thankful that she had sown pockets into it. At least she had some spare supplies if anyone were to mess up.
"I'm ready when you are." she said, and couldn't help but sound a bit cattish.

Ezmeralda | War-Forged | Herder
She didn’t see anyone’s reaction to her and Muiris’s brief moment of affection, and she tried not to think about what anyone might have thought of it if they had happened to glance over at them. Now wasn’t really the time for hugging and worrying over one another, especially being War-Forged. They were supposed to be tough and burly, strong enough to take on anything that came in their path. If anyone saw them, they’d probably think both of them were weak or something, and. Ezmeralda didn’t want someone thinking of him that way. She’d been thought of as weak for quite some time now by her fellow herd-members, so it didn’t matter that a few more did too, but she didn’t want them to think any less of Muiris because of her. He was the group’s Raider, and she’d feel awful if they gave him a hard time because he had given her a little hug.
The nervous mare couldn’t help but glance around as she waited for Nivinara to finish with her current patient, Chirin, and she caught the strange look Sativa had given her and Muiris. Ezmeralda couldn’t quite tell if it were anger or annoyance, but it definitely wasn’t anything friendly. Her green eyes shifted to the ground as she felt her face burn in a hot blush. ‘Please don’t be angry… if she is, I at least hope she’s just angry at me.’ She thought to herself, looking anywhere but back at the pale mare. At least she wasn’t getting the verbal abuse that Tem seemed to be getting from Kell. The two of them didn’t seem like they were on the best of terms for some reason. “T-take your time, Nivinara. I’m fine with waiting.” The unicorn muttered back to the red mare, not wanting her to feel rushed to tend to her when there were others in need of her help.
Fox’s strong voice rose over the quiet talking everyone was doing. It was obvious that she had no problem taking control of a situation like this which Ezmeralda respected deeply. She listened intently to her ideas on how they could get out of this disaster, and before she even said it, Ezmeralda knew what she was going to say: they needed to go down into the chasm. It terrified her, but any other way would take them more time and effort, and spending the night on the side of a mountain was hard even for horses born into this horrid, cold weather. She bit her lip nervously still even though she knew climbing down was their only logical option. It would be terribly difficult that was for sure. Being a herder of bighorn sheep, she knew how hard it could be to climb after them after they had used their significantly smaller feet to travel onto the face of a cliff. Their large hooves would have a much harder time finding good enough footholds, and with some of them having injuries, this would be even more dangerous than it already was. Her head moved to the side at the sound of Muiris’s strong tone. She had to admit that he was a very kind horse, but when it came down to it, he could be very determined and intimidating when he wanted to be. It was comforting in a way. At least she knew that everyone around her were very capable, and it gave her a twinge of hope that she could at least pretend to have a little faith in her own abilities.
After Nivinara bandaged her leg, Ezmeralda placed her weight on it, wincing slightly at the pain that followed, but it would have to do for now. There was nothing else to do for it other than ignore it for now, and she gave the medic a nod of gratitude for her work just when Fox asked if everyone were ready. The painted mare heaved a deep sigh, and Zeru, her puffin, sensed her nervousness and let out a loud squawk to which she responded to with a small snort. “Fly ahead, Zeru. I-I’ll be fine.” She took a deep breath as her familiar flew off her withers without hesitation and held it in as she watched Kell take off toward the other group to tell them their plan. Oh what she would do for them all to have wings, but it was a dream that would go unanswered. All she could do now was pray to Kaia for her protection and guidance as they traveled through this impossible landscape and try not to worry about their fate.
When it was her time to set off down the cliff side, Ezmeralda quickly glanced behind her at Muiris, hoping for some kind of reassurance that everything would be alright, but almost as soon as she turned to look at him, she looked away, not wanting to bother him with her own insecurities. Plus, there was no real way to tell if everything would be fine right now or if everyone would make it out of this, and she felt awful for even thinking of putting that responsibility on his shoulders. There was enough for him, and everyone else for that matter, to worry about. Her anxiety would just have to be something that she bottled up inside of herself and hope that it wouldn't resurface until they were all safe.
Ezmeralda released the breath she had been holding in one large huff and limped forward, setting off down the side of the mountain.

Tem | Herder
The medic was taking care of the colt now and Tem watched intently. Not that he had any intention of ever becoming a medic, but if something happened he might be forced to try his hand at it one day and he wanted to be prepared. Even if it were just looking at the wound and judge it. Nivanara seemed pleased enough with Chirin's wound, though. It looked nasty, but Tem had no doubt the young stallion would be fine. He was a strong thing and it wouldn't stop him.
He'd made the colt laugh, too, and Tem was glad for it. Maybe he could be the distraction the hurt members of their group needed to keep going. Give some support and something to make them smile, just so they could think less about their injuries and more about the journey ahead.
"Oi," he said when Chirin bumped into Muiris. "Don't knock yourself out on all those muscles."
He glanced over at the medic when she moved to Ezmeralda. It was good they had her around, even if it made him feel a bit useless. He had no wings, no muscles to aid their cause, and no particular knowledge of the area. Entertainment, it seemed, would be his job.
"Let me know if you need help taking care of these dolts," he told Nivinara. "I have a very pleasant bedside manner!"
The pretty pale mare seemed okay too. Just a touch hurt, but still standing and talking. He'd have to keep his eye on her.
"Dammit, laughing hurts my head. Try to be less charming, will you?"
Tem looked down at himself. "Less charming?! But it's the only thing I've got going for me!"
It's not like he had much else to impress others with. He was unremarkable. His limbs short, his coat plain, and his horn was barely a horn at all. He got mistaken for a horse more often than not. Some days, he freely admitted his personality had formed as a way to compensate. Other days, he'd say it'd been formed by a need to amuse himself. Both were valid options.
He sidled up to the mare, trusting Muiris would take care of Ezmeralda now. He'd just stick to Satine and make sure she didn't tumble down a cliff. Or maybe she'd make sure he didn't do so either.
"I don't get called charming often, though. Generally I get called annoying. So I'm blushing like a baby colt here, I swear."
Fox, their leader, got to business then and Tem fell silent. He felt ignored, even, because the others didn't seem to take note of him, even when he spoke to them. He understood, though. He got ignored a lot - his personality was grating, sometimes - and they had more important things to worry about. He listened attentively to Fox's ideas and nodded along. It sounded terrifying, but necessary. And he had no doubt he'd be fine.
"Maybe I should go as one of the first? I'm used to dancing on rocks and I'm small. Sounds the safest option."
Without waiting for a reaction, he took in a deep breath then started descending. He paused just for a second and looked back up at Satine. "Grab my tail if you need to. I'll make sure we don't fall!"
Kell took off, still sounding grumpy, and Tem hoped they'd see her again. Not because he worried for her - her wings would probably make her the safest amongst them - but they were in a more problematic situation. It made his heart pound.
"Be careful, Ez!" he called as he made his way down the slope. "I'm stealing your beau otherwise!"
Some rocks slipped, but he kept going. He'd be fine. He had to think so. They'd be fine.
