It had been an extremely slow day. It seemed like no one wanted to do anything and the palace was quieter than he'd seen it since he started here. Valerius sighed, walking into an inner courtyard. It was empty, but he knew there was a meeting between Amadeus and his advisors down the hall a short ways. He didn't really care what they were meeting about, unlike a lot of the palace. Gossip ran rampant among the servants and other chevaliers. It was rather annoying to be perfectly honest. He couldn't stand the babble. It really meant nothing to him, and often when he came across others who were gossiping he'd give them a stern glare, urging them to go on their way.
Even though he was on break, the stallion couldn't help but feel the desire to remain close to those he was assigned to protect. Even if he'd been on guard duty for five hours straight already today. He sighed and stopped at the fountain in the center of the small area, lowering his head to take a drink. A familiar white form joined him, the wolf lowering her head to drink next to him. "What?" he asked, looking over at his familiar. "Don't tell me you're tired from guard duty as well?" The wolfess snorted and turned, walking away from him to curl up under the shade of a nearby bench. The stallion chuckled and raised his head from the fountain, looking around.
It was a nicely appointed courtyard. Mosaic stretched across the walls, like most of the walls in the palace. The fountain had clean cool water and where ever there wasn't a path, a bright burst of colorful flowers was nearly shoved into place. It seemed a bit excessive, but nothing he wasn't used to. Even if Valerius preferred a simpler style himself, most Aodhians enjoyed the excess. Perhaps it was just because he was a chevalier, most of those in the service were used to meager living conditions, spending a lot of time in barracks or the outposts. One thing was for sure, it was certainly different from the outpost he'd led before being transferred here.
