déja vua roleplay between themoonphase's salvatore & kei-ren's io
The Iron Hoof stallion is enjoying his time off in the quiet lands of Ziuseset, outside the bustling Onea. Before long, he spots a pack of coyotes hunting prey. At first he pays it no mind, but as Salvatore's cougar companion Tulum grows antsier, he discovers it's Io.
Peace and quiet. Days like this, where he had the time off to relax and do as he pleased, without having to worry about what might be lurking right around the corner really brought a sense of ease to Salvatore. The red stallion and his cougar friend made that day's sanctuary at a small oasis a few miles from the borders of Osulas. The winds were low that day, and everything remained still. His black silk cloak draped over his back and his eyes were pressed short, ears flicking in all directions listening to the buzzing cicadas that broke the silence every so often. The cougar Tulum lay on Salvatore's back, one paw draped across his side as she snoozed. For once in their stressful, work-filled lives, there were no complaints. One blue eye pricked open at the sound of yipping coyotes about a mile in the distance. It is about lunch time, the stallion chuckled to himself. He closed his eyes once more, but kept one curled ear alert at the predators, who were now moving faster in the distance straight ahead. Tulum perked up, quickly taking over protection mode as Salvatore slowly began to doze off. He felt safe doing so, considering the animals had no interest in him, and they probably couldn't even see him as he was neatly tucked away between a few trees. Still, Tulum watched with intent as the animals swarmed their prey, whatever it was. They were so tightly packed the feline couldn't even make it out. By the looks of things, they had been chasing it for a while, because a few of the coyotes were beginning to grow tired and dragged behind the group. As the yipping grew louder, the cougar began to sense something was amiss. With a low growl in her throat, she used her muzzle to nudge Salvatore's jaw to wake him up. Blue eyes shot open, immediately finding their place where the pack of coyotes began to grow tighter. Slowly but surely, he too realized something was wrong. Must be some big damn prey they're taking on. Eyebrows furrowed to close in on the action. It was another horse. "Shit," he casually cursed. Tulum jumped onto the warm sand from her resting place and went into prowling mode, both ears and eyes focused ahead, ready to pounce at her friend's command. "Easy girl," he assured her. "Don't want to get ourselves-" His voice was cut off at the victim's cries. It was a voice he knew all to well, and it made his heart sink into his stomach. His eyes widened at the realization, and he almost went into shock before he sprinted for her. Io.Words: 449 Tags: taebun

Io -
The day had begun with a good start. The Fleet-Foot had been keeping herself busy acting as a guide to visiting horses and Gatherers, and this day was no different. Her companion was a good few years younger than she, so she was mindful to keeping a careful eye out, knowing that predators could be easily lurking, especially at this time of day. Io's intuition had been correct and the next thing she knew she was drawing a pack of coyotes away from her fellow herd mate, ordering for her to return home while she dealt with these beasts. But that was proving to be easier said than done. She may have been quick on her feet, one of the fastest in Serora, but running through the hot sands would take it's toll - and it would do so rather quickly. Io was just as susceptible to the heat as any other of her kin. Evading other enemy horses were one thing, but the predators that prowled Sedo knew the land just as well as she did.
She had known it ahead of time; her speed had it's consequences. But if she tripped or even slowed for just a second she knew the coyotes would easily overcome her. Io was confident in her abilities, but she wasn't prideful enough to deny the truth of her situation. Earlier into the chase her back right leg, the one she had previously injured in the past, had begun to cramp up, the muscle having been overworked from her running. It would have been far easier if she could fly, but with an injured back leg she wouldn't have enough strength to launch herself off into the air. The mare was stuck fleeing on foot, and if her galloping hadn't depleted her energy - the heat surely would.
Io took a deep breath, sucking the air into her burning lungs in a struggle through her panting before she used what was left of her strength to push herself forward, just enough to get ahead of the pack before she quickly turned to face them. With her teeth bared she raised her enormous wings, silently relieved when that had been enough to have them sliding to an immediate stop. There was no way she could fight them all off, but maybe if she had the chance to rest for just a few minutes she could regain enough energy to take off. She just needed time.

If her voice wasn't enough for him, those massive wings of hers confirmed it. Io was in danger, and now it was a matter of how to go about saving her. As an Iron Hoof, Salvatore had plenty of training when it came to situations like this, and Tulum was surely an added bonus. This pack of coyotes, however, was exceptionally large and apparently ruthless.
As Io flashed her appendages in the distance, the canines froze in fright, and Salvatore paced as he tried to come up with a plan. He hoped Io would be smart enough to take off in flight, but the unicorn knew that wasn't her ideal way about facing an enemy. Io was a fighter, and Sal knew that before long, she'd attempt to fight them off herself. Unfortunately, one horse against nearly a dozen coyotes didn't have very favourable outcomes. Typically, these canines hunt on their own, but when their prey is this large, they prefer to hunt in a pack. And apparently, it just wasn't Io's day.
As the moments passed, Tulum grew antsier and antsier. In the short time she belonged to Salvatore, and he was with Io, she grew very attached and as she was so young, she viewed Io as a mother of sorts. It didn't take long at all for the cougar to realize who it was in distress, but she also knew better than to bolt into a pack of hungry dogs without the aid of Salvatore. So the feline held her pre-pounce position and waited for the cue.
At that, the Iron hoof decided he'd sneak up behind the pack. A quick and quiet whistle prompted the cougar to quickly creep along the outside of the Oasis and position herself behind the pack of coyotes where they wouldn't be able to see the approach. Salvatore, head held low, trotted to his cougar's side and held his stance for a moment, praying to Alya for the best outcome before giving Tulum a quiet "go," and the pair sprinted toward the pack, blitzkrieg style.

Io -
She was careful to keep her eyes on them, knowing the danger if she dared to look away for even a second. Her large wings cast a dark shadow before her, and she kept them raised, every feather throughout her body spread or puffed up. She had respect for all walks of life and she knew that these coyotes were simply acting to their nature - but Io wasn't going to allow herself to be hunted, not by anything. If she was going to go out, it wouldn't be like this, not in the middle of the desert at the jaws of a coyote pack.
Every breath Io drew in was warm and it was difficult to keep her head straight with the rapid sound of her heart pounding in her ears. Silently she cursed herself for not having spotted this pack earlier, maybe then she could have avoided this situation. But it was too late for regrets now. Although her attention was completely on the pack, her ears picked up another sound, but she didn't dare turn her head to see what it was. The Fleet-Foot could only pray that it was another horse, and she desperately wished it was.
With her head low and ears pinned she pawed at the sand, her tail lashing behind her. Out of the corner of her eye she could see one of them looking a little more braver than the rest, but if she turned to face them she would only get herself surrounded. Although she had kept a closer eye on that single coyote she wasn't prepared for when it suddenly lunged at her. Io let out an angry shriek, charging forward a few feet in order to back them off, her front hooves spraying an arc of sand before her. "I don't think so!" She snapped, lifting her sore hind leg slightly off of the ground. "Not another step." The pegasi threatened, despite the beasts lack of understanding, but perhaps her little display had been enough to put them off - at least for now.

As the Iron Hoof and his cougar made their silent approach, blue eyes watched Io flag her exceptionally large wings in attempt to keep the enemies at bay. Io was among Serora's warriors as well, and Salvatore didn't doubt she knew how to handle herself, but being a knight in shining armour was what he did best. And he would never forgive himself if he turned his back on her and she got hurt. He knew she could fly away if she wanted to, but noting that she had a bothersome back she might have even more trouble than the unicorn had imagined.
Clouds of dust erupted from the sands as Salvatore galloped on, his mane dancing with the wind behind him. Given his massive size, he was surprised the coyotes hadn't already heard him, or felt the vibrations that his weight sent through the ground, like a freight train approaching the station. With a hundred meters between him and Tulum and the predators, Salvatore slowed himself to an extended trot, holding his head low to ensure he made as little sound as possible. In a flash, he drew his crossbow and raised his head to aim. Ears pinned, without stopping his trot, he released the trigger and sent his crossbow flying into the rump of the coyote at the front of the pack that had lunged at Io, scattering the animals like roaches after a light comes on. The target dragged itself away, shrieking.
Bellowing from within came a cocky laugh; Salvatore could admit he was impressed at his own aiming skills. He gave Io a glance and raised an eyebrow. "Fucking wimps," he cackled, hoping she too would be impressed, though he also knew that tensions would be high. He continued his approach and didn't stop moving until he was about five feet away. With narrowed eyes he peered at her injured leg, which was clearly bothering her - she had been trying to hold it up. "Are you alright, Io?" Words: 332 Tags: taebun

Io -
When Io looked up her eyes instantly recognized the familiar blood bay coat of the approaching horse. There was only one horse in all of Serora that carried those brimming colors. Salvatore. The relief on her face was obvious and her tense muscles immediately relaxed as the coyote pack finally disburse and fled back into the desert. The scout was quiet, merely watching him with a calm, neutral expression. All that could be read was the softness in her eyes. She took a deep breath before letting out a sigh, closing her eyes for a moment as she shuffled her wings, stretching them before tucking them snug at her sides. Only then did her ears flick towards the warrior, staring through pale blonde lashes. "Nice aim." The compliment was painfully simple, but the ache in her chest at being so close to him again was nearly suffocating. Regarding his question she tilted her head, taking a few seconds before she remembered her hind leg.
With care Io lifted her left wing, craning her neck to the side in order to get a good look at it. It was sore, and although that wasn't anything new, as she stretched it outwards she couldn't hide a wince at the sudden sharp pain that shot up from the old injury. Had she really strained it that much? "I'll be fine. It's just sore, that's all." She responded with a frustrated huff before lifting her chin and returning her attention to her childhood best friend, but before she spoke again she looked away. "What are you doing out here, Sal?" Io asked, her voice soft and unusually quiet, different from her usual spunky self.

The red stallion couldn't stop himself from giving his ex-lover a wink in response to her compliment. He was cocky as it was, but when Io praised him it had always raised his ego tenfold. He bit his tongue, avoiding his flirtatious thoughts. His ears remained alert, attentive to every sound that made its way to them, yet still focused on his ex-lover in front of him. As Io lifted her wing, he returned his eyes to her leg. Narrowing his eyes, he stepped forward to examine it closer. Focus switched to his peripherals, eager to catch the damsel's reaction.
He huffed and shook his head. "Doesn't look swollen anymore, dove. Looks pretty good, actually, but I'm no medicine horse," the Iron Hoof chuckled, before retreating to a more respectable distance.
He craned his neck to scout the sands behind Io, to ensure the coyotes were long gone. A sudden uneasiness came upon him, making him feel like the job wasn't quite done. "I'm out here rescuing you," he told her with another subtle wink, though not quite as focused on her as he had been before. His ears continued to twitch in every direction, like a satellite desperately trying to find a signal. His sky blue eyes grew impossibly wide just as he located the wave -- directly behind them. The Iron hoof stuck his rear right hoof out, just as a coyote lunged toward him.
Swiftly and instantly, he turned around and roared --
"BE GONE!"
His blessing rippled through the air, hurling the canine a few meters back. His lips curled upward into a sinister smile as the dog's legs got tangled in attempt to get up, and he gave a soft chuckle as it ran away.
He turned back toward the pegasus.
"And what exactly are you doing out here? Getting into all sorts of trouble I see." He knew fully well she was working, but he adored teasing her nonetheless.
