Emperor Hawkeye and Damaris
Following the events of Chapter 1
Within the concubines quarters, Damaris found herself contemplating the events of the past few weeks.
Rebellion had erupted following the Winter’s Solstice sacrifice, spreading chaos through the herd like one of Ignacio’s wildfires. The madness lasted for nearly a week, during which time no one was safe - not even in the palace or the Divine’s temple. Two extremists had made an attempted attack on the young empress, and all of the concubines had scrambled to save the child from harm's way. Amara went as far as to kill one of the attackers. Another small group attacked the emperor and council, making an attempt on the Divine’s and Emperor’s lives. The extremist had a death wish, it seemed, having the gall to attack on both holy ground and in the palace.
It set a feeling of unease within Damaris. Although the extremist had been dealt with, and a camp made to keep pegasi and sympathizers away from the rest of the herd, she was still worried. Her gut told her that this would not be the end of it.
A deep sigh came from her lips.
Hawkeye was carrying a heavy weight on his shoulders, and Damaris was not blind to that. She had known him for many years, and in those years of knowing him she picked up on the signs that told when he was upset.
She needed to go see him.
It was a little against protocol, of course, for her to seek him out, but protocol wasn’t something she exactly cared about at the moment. She rose from her bed and gathered her scarf. In a swift movement she wrapped it around her neck, and made her way to the doors of the concubine quarters.
The Emperor’s Suite was not a far walk.
“I wish to speak with the emperor,” she addressed the guards standing outside the doors. //
