Don't Let Me Down BlueUnicornJ13 's Ryder and kawaiideadpool 's Ra Year 1669
Ryder | Serora | Medicine-Horse The Zuiseset never seemed to empty and lonesome as it did now. Ryder had returned after a long journey around Sedo in search of his lost wife to the land that they had called home, hoping that maybe she had made her way back to the cave that was their home. His son, Leif, and his son's dingo familiar trotted ahead of him, hope glistening in the colt's eyes. That hope slowly disappeared as they searched each and every room of their home to find it just as they had left it: empty. Ryder could see the hurt and betrayal in Leif's eyes, and he wrapped his head around the spotted colt in a tight hug, allowing a tired sigh to escape him. It had been months since they had left in search of her, and they had come up empty handed. He felt nothing but a hollowness in the pit of his stomach and a tired, achy feeling that reached all the way to his bones. He couldn't imagine how Leif must have felt after all of this. Not only had he been dragged across Sedo to look for his mother who hadn't even left a note saying that she was leaving, but he also had to deal with the fact that he might not ever see her again. Ryder was still in disbelief of it all. There was no way that such a happy marriage ended like this. There was no way that his marriage ended like this. "Leif... I want you to stay here. Get some sleep, son. I'll be back later... I promise." Ryder said as he walked his son to his bedroom, tucking him into his bed where Leif fell asleep almost as soon as his head hit his pillows.
One more search... Ryder still had hope that he could find her, and they would go back to just the way things were. They'd all be one, big happy family again and forget that all of this had happened. In the back of his mind though, doubt was beginning to grow. She was probably dead... or she didn't want to be found. The hippocampus shook his head, feeling the fins on his back raise defensively as he exited his home on tired hooves and back into the Zuiseset. It was only mid-day. There was plenty of time today to look for her before he returned to Leif, but he didn't want to give up hope. She had to be out there, and he needed to find her. He needed to bring her home.

Ra | Serora | Medicine Horse
The young medicine horse had just finished making her rounds, checking in on others who had came to her for help which was much to her surprise. She said good bye to her last patient before turning on her heel and making her way back to her home. Ignacio's sun rested high up in the sky, the heat radiating off of it made the painted mare excited to feel the slight breeze that would rush by her, knocking little strands of hair free from her bun. She still had lots of things to do today, but she convinced herself that a break would do her good for the moment seeing as if if she didn't get out of the heat she might pass out.
Ra paused for a moment, stopping to look at some of the young-lings who were kicked up the desert sand in their little game of chase. Smiling to herself, she watched them for a moment before a familiar coat caught her eye. The bright chestnut pattern stood out to her as she felt her amber eyes quickly dart over to the figure. Raising her eyebrow as she studied the figure in the distance, and when she realized who she was looking at a smile fell upon her lips as she trotted over the the hippocampus, "Ryder!" She called, as she came to a halt in front of him, "How are you?"
Flicking her ears as she waited for him to greet her, she felt some of the excitement leave her body as she noticed the small look of sadness that graced his face. Twitching her tail in thought, she took a few steps away from him, not wanting to make him feel uncomfortable since it already looked as if he had something on his mind. She quickly moved out from in front of him as she realized she might be causing him to be late to whatever destination he was heading too. She stood a couple feet away as she debated on if she she pester him or not about it, but she let her worry get the best of her, "Ryder, are you okay? What's wrong?" Her voice was laced with worry as she stared at him with big eyes.

Ryder | Serora | Medicine Horse
The sun was hot on his back as he trekked toward the very few parts of Sedo that he hadn't checked yet. His wife was resourceful. She could live a long time by herself even in a climate like this. She was alive. He knew she was. The only things he was unsure about was where she was and why she had left her family. Had he done something wrong? Had he not told her enough how much he loved her? It pained him to think about it, but maybe that was the case. Or maybe she simply wished to no longer be with him.
Ryder's mind was tired as he walked, and his attention was on the task at hand. He hardly noticed someone calling his name until the horse was trotting over toward him. The hippocampus looked up from the dirt in front of him. He could feel the bags under his eyes from lack of sleep, and he almost didn't recognize the mare that came toward him. "Ra." Ryder muttered, nodding his head in greeting.
She looked a lot better than when they had last met, happy even, but as she looked at him, he could see worry etching itself on her face. A ragged sigh escaped him as his blue eyes wandered to the ground. He could only imagine how awful he probably looked. Not only was he exhausted, but he had lost his first love after years of marriage and had absolutely no idea why. It wasn't worth lying about or talking around it, and from the genuine concern on her face, Ryder knew he could trust her. "I-" He started before his voice cracked. Ryder cleared his throat, coughing a few times before attempting to speak again. "My wife is missing... My son and I have been looking for her for weeks... but... we've had no luck yet in finding her." Sadness filled his voice as he glanced over toward the painted mare in front of him.
With a soft snort, his ears flattened themselves slightly, and he shook his head, making his long, tangled hair fall over one of his eyes. "I don't mean to bother you with my troubles, Ra. I was really hoping the next time we met would be on happier terms." The stallion admitted with a tired chuckle. He hated making others feel uncomfortable, and while he hadn't meant to unload all of his problems onto her, it did feel just a little bit relieving to have a friend know about what he was going through.

Ra | Serora | Medicine HorseThe paint felt her ears twitch back as she looked at the stallion with a look of wonder on her face. Thinking to herself as she scanned him up and do with a quick flick of her eyes, "Oh, Ryder, I'm sorry," She let these words fall from her mouth with a gentle sigh as she quickly looked away from him. It pained the medicine horse to see him in such a state of disarray for she hoped that when they met again he would be just as happy as she was but it was very clear that he wasn't in any mood to be a ray of sunshine.
The bags under his eyes made her almost wince in concern, it was obvious it hadn't been getting enough sleep and it made her worry even more seeing as he might collapse from exhaustion if he didn't take a break soon. Watching him shake his mane in front of his eyes, Ra let out a tired huff before bending at the neck in order to peek up from underneath his mane, "Ryder, you need to take it easy," She mumbled, her caring side started to rip it's way to the surface as she began to try and plead with him to take a rest. "How long has it been since you took a break?" She questioned him as she circled around him. Ra eyed him up and down but when she found no real signs of any physical damage she came to a halt in front of him before letting out a sigh.
The younger of the two stood in silence for a moment as she waited for Ryder to respond to her. Her heart was aching for him, and although she barely knew him or anything about his situation with his wife, he was scared that he would run himself ragged and end up in a worse state then he already was. That was when she deciede she would talk some sense into him and without thinking she let her words slip from her mouth.
"What if she doesn't want to be found?"

Ryder | Serora | Medicine Horse
Ryder winced slightly at the sight of the worry and pain on the mare's face, and he wished that he could take back what he had said. He shouldn't have worried her about this. This was his problem to deal with and no one else's. All he had done was put a weight on her shoulders that she probably didn't need. But a part of him needed to tell someone, needed someone to help him. He had been burdened by this and had suffered alone for so long that he felt like he would burst or break under the tremendous pressure he was under. He needed to find his wife, even if it was just to say goodbye.
The hippocampus felt his legs swap a little beneath his weight, exhausted from all of the traveling he had done with little to no sleep. But how was he supposed to sleep? Every time he tried, he couldn't even get comfortable enough. His bed felt empty without her sleeping beside him. His eyes looked back at Ra when her concerned tone filled his ears, and his brows narrowed thoughtfully. "She's been gone for a little over a month. Leif has slept... I just can't... even if I do, it's not for very long." Ryder admitted tiredly. If he were a patient of his, he would have told himself to sleep and try to get some rest, but his mind was irrational. His thoughts and energy wanted to focus on nothing aside from searching.
The next words that fell from Ra's lips left him awestruck. 'What if she doesn't want to be found?' He hadn't even thought of that. Why wouldn't she want to be found? They were a family. They were supposed to talk about things like this. Maybe she didn't want to be found for the same reason she left without a word or a letter or any sort of sign that she was unhappy. Ryder shook his head, lowering it in defeat. His blue eyes closed as a ragged sigh escaped him. "I don't understand... she never acted unhappy, never said anything about leaving. I would have done anything to keep her here." Ryder's voice trailed off into silence, his mind swimming in thoughts that flooded his mind.
Didn't want to be found... gone forever... alone...
It pained him to think about never seeing her again, but it pained him even more that his son would grow up without his mother and never know why she had left him. He probably thought it was his fault that she had left and that something was wrong with him. "Why would she leave?"

Ra | Medicine Horse
The mare felt her heart twitch in pain and worry at the sight of Ryder's face; he was so calm and happy when they had first met and it was strange to see him be so down and out of it. She averted her eyes from him for a moment as she thought over the words that had just left her mouth. Did she really have any idea what she was talking about? No, not at all. Had she experienced someone important leaving? Yes she had... but that was her fault. The medicine horse that stood before her seemed unable to hurt a fly and it made her rack her brain over why somone would leave such a kind soul.
Why would she leave?
Ra tilted her head to the side as she thought. Letting a sigh slip past her lips, she stared at the stallion with pity behind her amber eyes. She found herself searching his expression for a moment but when all she found was sadness and desire she felt her heart break a little more, "Ryder... Are you sure she had no reasons to leave?" She quizzed him as she tried to think of some logical reason for a mare to leave her mate and child, "What if she was hiding something? What if it was something that would hurt you if you found out?" Ra was trying hard to think of some excuse that might put his heart at ease, but when each excuse left her lips she could only see herself failing at cheering him up.
Then her mind wandered over to Leif. Her lips pulled down into a frown as she thought of how he might never see his mother again, and with his father being so desperate in his attempts to find his mate that Leif could only feel as if he had no parents at all. Ra let out another sigh as thoughts of the colt danced through her mind, "What about Leif, Ryder? Don't you think he might be tired of searching? That he might just want to spend time with you instead of searching for someone who might not come back?" Words flew from her mouth as she tried to wrap her head around this. She felt as if his problems had became her own, and she wanted to do whatever she could to maybe help a broken family come back together.

Ryder | Serora | Medicine Horse
Ryder knew that Ra knew nothing of his relationship with his wife, but he hoped that she didn't think that he would do anything to make her want to leave. He couldn't even imagine raising his voice to her let alone raising a hoof to hit her. That was why he was so confused as to why she would just disappear like she had. He hadn't beaten her or screamed at her or treated her badly. All he had done was love her. Ryder couldn't help but flinch a little when Ra asked if he was sure that she had no reason to leave and shook his head slightly. His mouth couldn't even move to form words until after she had asked a few more questions. His ears twitched as he thought. "She...never mentioned anything... but knowing her, if something were wrong and she thought we would be safer without her, she wouldn't have said anything..." All Ryder wanted to do was be there for her, to find out if there was anything that he could do to help her. He wanted to be there for her like he had been for 12 years... and yet, deep down, he knew that he would never find her. She was gone.
His blue eyes looked up from the dirt to meet Ra's amber gaze. Leif. His stomach knotted with guilt and sorrow for his son and what he had been through in the last month. Ryder hoped that he was sleeping soundly in their home right now. At least his son's familiar was there to comfort him, but Ryder grew angry at himself at the realization that he hadn't been there for him. "I-" Ryder started to speak but broke off when his voice cracked. "I've been a terrible father lately." He admitted, shaking his head shamefully. What had his son done to deserve this? "I just wanted to bring his mother back. To find out why she left. I-I didn't realize how selfish I was being." The hippocampus sighed heavily, closing his eyes for a brief moment as defeat and guilt washed over him. He'd been a terrible father and husband. He should have known something was wrong with his wife, and he should have been there for his son when she had left instead of dragging him on some impossible journey. He really was a screw-up.
"I'm sorry for bothering you with all of this, Ra, but I do appreciate your help. I guess I just need to... let her go." Ryder said with a soft sigh. The heavy weight of worry on his shoulders seemed to lift slightly at his words. He needed to let her go. There was no way to find someone who didn't want to be found.

Ra | Serora | Medicine Horse
She twitched her tail in thought as she listened to the stallion speak. She let his words linger in her ears as she tried to wrap her head around the next words she should say to him. Her ears twitched as she let out a gentle sigh, feeling her heart slow down and her mind go void of almost all thoughts.
"You don't have to let her go," She smiled, as she looked him up and down with a quick glance, "There's plenty of people who I have lost, and in truth you can never forget them," Her smile fell as she spoke, thoughts of her mentor and her death flooded her mind but she quickly shook her head in attempts to get rid of them for right now she had to focus on her friend's problems, not her own. She forced that small back onto her lips as she tilted her head to the side, he seemed to be truly hurting and she was still at a lost for words when he confessed how horrible of a father he had been.
Hearing those words leave his lips made her had sting in pain. There was no way this man could be a bad dad to his son for the compassion he showed her that day proved that Ryder had a loving soul, "It's okay, Ryder," She said, her voice was soft and gentle, sounding almost like a mother who was desperately trying to comfort her own child,"Leif still loves you, and you still love Leif... There's plenty of time to be a good dad." Her words were genuine as she spoke, trying her best to reassure the male that not all was lost in this world.
"And don't apologize," She quickly ushered out these words, "Everyone has problems and issues... I'm just here to help whenever you need me," As she finished her sentence, she flashed a big smile at him as a way of proving her point.

Ryder | Serora | Medicine-HorseRyder sighed quietly, flicking his tail around his hind legs. He hadn't really noticed how downhill everything had went and how quickly it had done so. When things had gone bad, they had gone really, really bad. Oh how had he been so blind? His heart clenched with guilt at the thought of how much harder he had made his son's life after losing his mother. Leif must feel so alone. During all of this, Ryder had tried to answer all of the questions that his son had had about his mother's disappearance, but maybe Ryder should have just been there for him instead of dragging him across Sedo in search of someone they might not have ever found. 'Oh Alya, please help him find some way to forgive me.' Ryder prayed silently, glancing up at the sky.
His ears swiveled toward Ra as the younger mare spoke. He couldn't even imagine himself living without his wife of 12 years. He had lived so long with her that he didn't know what to do with himself. "I don't think I'll ever be able to forget her... but I can't keep looking for her. It's better for Leif if we... give up searching for her. She obviously doesn't want to be found." His voice was laced with anguish, but he knew what he had to do. He needed to stop being selfish and be the father his son needed right now. He needed to be there for him and stop this impossible quest. If she wanted to be found, they would have already found her, and if she had wanted to come back, they would have found her at home.
"We've been... well, were married for 12 years. I don't even think I know what to do with myself without her." Ryder admitted with a dry chuckle, shaking his head slightly. His eyes softened as he turned them toward Ra. She was there to help him, and all he could see was honest concern on her face. What had he done to deserve such a friend? "Thank you, Ra. For everything. You may have just saved the rest of my family before I lost him too."

Ra | Serora | Medicine Horse
Feeling a gentle smile wash over her face, the younger of the pair felt as if she had maybe gotten through to the older stallion. She glanced him up and down once more, letting her amber eyes studying his face with extreme concern for making sure that no other emotions were hidden behind his painted features. She tried to get her thoughts together as she opened her mouth once again to speak, "You'll figure something out Ryder," She said, her voice was soft and gentle still sounding very much like a mother trying to calm her child, "You still have Leif. You still have plenty of time to be a dad so I think you should try to be the best one you could ever be," She let out a small chuckle as she tried to relieve some of his tension.
But still feeling as if he wasn't entirely ready to let his late wife go, Ra cleared her throat with a loud cough before giving him a rather serious look, "Let me walk you home," She was very firm with her sentence, subconsciously kicking at the sand around her feet. She didn't really care to wait for an answer for she had seen the way he had came from so if she had to drag him home she would very much do that.
By demanding him to let her walk home with him she just wanted to make sure that he made it home safe without running off to find his wife again since he still looked so upset over her leaving. Plus on top of looking out for her upset friend, she wanted to make sure that Leif was okay as well, and that he would be okay if his dad did up and leave again. And if Ryder did leave again, it would be peace of mind for Ra if she knew where they lived so she could go check up on Leif if needed. Ryder might not have noticed but Ra had developed a sense of protection over her new found friend, and she was going to be sure that no harm fell upon his family- emotionally or physically.

Ryder | Serora | Medicine Horse
This was it. Ryder swung his head to look over at the horizon where no movement other than the occasional plant waving in the wind could be seen. He needed to stop this. His body was withered and beaten from months of traveling on little to no sleep, but at the thought of giving up, his heart clenched inside of his chest, and guilt washed over him. She wouldn't give up on him... at least he didn't think so, but it seemed that even though they had been married for 12 years, she had had her own secrets. The hippocampus looked back to see the concerned expression on Ra's face. It was comforting to him to know that he had least someone by his side, and it brought a tired smile to his face. Ryder nodded in agreement to her words. Leif was only 12. The two of them had plenty of time left to spend together before Leif grew up. He needed to be there for him, show him that he wasn't alone in a time like this.
His ears swiveled toward her when she spoke, her voice having a more serious undertone than before. The older stallion sighed quietly, glancing toward the way he had been heading before running into Ra. 'Goodbye, Effie. I hope you're safe wherever you are.' He thought silently as if she could hear his thoughts from afar. He felt a certain ease settle over him, knowing that he didn't have to search any more. He could move on. "Let's go." Ryder muttered, turning back to look at Ra before beginning to walk back toward his home.
His hooves kicked up dust as he half-dragged them through the dirt. He was too exhausted to pick them up any higher than he was, and he hoped that he wouldn't trip on any unseen rocks in front of his friend. His eyes glanced over at her occasionally. He couldn't express how grateful he was to have her there, to have a friend that he could lean on in a time of need. Ryder couldn't say that he had many friends like that. "Thank you again, Ra. You're a really good friend. Not many would put up with something like this." Ryder murmured, offering the younger mare a friendly grin.
"I live just over this ridge inside of a cave. Leif is asleep, but he's a pretty sound sleeper, so we shouldn't have to worry too much about waking him." The stallion spoke after a few miles of walking into the Zuiseset. His legs wobbled slightly as he walked over the short ridge that overlooked his home.

The mare flicked her ears back in thought as she listened to him speak. She couldn't help but let her lips remain turned down into the expression mixed with sadness and concern. Oh, her dear friend who had come to her aid that day now needed someone to come to his side, and no matter if he wanted it or not, Ra would be the one for him to lean on. Hearing him thank her yet again, her lips turned down into a frustrated frown as she let out a dramatic huff of air, "Ryder, please stop," It was a short sentence that held more anger to it than she had wanted. Her words resonated in her ears as she coughed, "You don't need to thank me. We look after each other after all," She beamed as she walked alongside him as she smiled towards him. Ra prayed that he would understand that he truly didn't need to thank the mare for her actions. In all honesty, she truly wanted to look after him, and now seeing him in this depressed state made her heart reach out to him even more.
Hearing him state how they weren't too far from his home, she felt her ears swivel back against her neck as she noticed how weak he seemed at this moment. Ra just prayed that he wasn't expecting to get rid of her anytime soon as she slid closer towards him; just in case his knees decided to give out underneath him, "Are you sure that you are okay, Ryder?" She asked, once again pressing the matter of his mental health as she gave him a gentle smile. She understood the feeling of losing someone and sinking into a depression that one couldn't bring themselves out of. She waited patiently for his response as she already was beginning to think of a way to get him to let her stay the night. She was fearing for him and his mental state. She didn't want to see such a kind soul wander down the same path she had gone down.

Ryder | Serora | Medicine-Horse
Ryder couldn't help but be thankful. For months he had traveled with only his son. His friends had supported his search in the beginning, but they had quickly disappeared as it became apparent that his wife would not be returning. Ra was the first horse that he knew that had really taken the time and energy to help him, to bring some kind of sense to his mind that he needed to stop this.
His ears flattened when he heard her flustered huff followed by her rather obvious frustrated tone. His tired blue eyes looked toward where she walked close beside him, making sure that he didn't crumble to the ground at any moment, and the concern and sadness on her face was evident enough that even he could decipher it in this exhausted state. It brought a faint smile to his features and warmed his cold, broken heart. "Heh, sorry." Ryder muttered with a soft chuckle, and he offered her a small nod of his head at her words. 'We look after each other after all.' It was a simple statement, but it meant so much to him. It meant having someone close to him, someone he could rely on. Ra was certainly a very good friend to do all of this for him, and he supposed, he was too for helping her all that time ago outside of Osulas.
The fins on his back shifted uncomfortably at her question. Was he alright? His brows furrowed slightly in thought. "I'm... not quite sure to be honest." He stated, turning his head to look over at her as they walked in the direction of his home. It felt strange to not be out there looking for his wife... well, ex-wife he supposed was the proper term now. He felt like he was abandoning her, leaving her forever, and it felt horrible, but was he really giving up? He had spent months searching every nook and cranny of Sedo for her. He had lost so much sleep, hadn't eaten properly, and had drug his son along with him down this self-destructive path. He had spent every last fabric of energy left in him to look for her. He hadn't abandoned her. It was the other way around. "She abandoned us." Ryder whispered in realization, shaking his head and causing his tangled hair to become even more disheveled.
Before the hippocampus got the chance to speak again, the two traveled over a small hill, and just over it, the sight of a small cavern could be seen with a brightly colored fabric hanging over the opening that served as a door. "We're here." He tilted his head toward the cave and began walking toward it. He parted the cloth door and lumbered inside, his tired frame nearly collapsing in a chair that sat in what served as his home's living room before looking back at his friend. "Do you want to stay around for a little while? We have some food and water in the kitchen that you can help yourself to." Ryder offered Ra, looking over to a small alcove in the cavern wall where there was a table surrounded by walls covered in cabinets and shelves with small plants growing from pots on some of them. The truth was, Ryder wasn't sure he was ready to be alone. He had been alone for so long it seemed and wished desperately for her to be able to stay even for just a little while.

Flicking her ears back once she realized her voice had came off a lot harsher than she meant for. Grumbling under her breath about how that's not how you treat your friends, Ra; before turning back to Ryder as she tried to match his pace. She didn't speak again as she walked after him, her neck snapping back as she physically flinched at the fact he thought he was okay. He seemed to be trying to put on a strong face for his companion, but she knew did down inside that he wasn't okay for she had been there once before and she deeply understood that pain of feeling abandoned and left alone to be miserable.
"I know the feeling Ryder," She chimed up when he mentioned his feelings on how she abandoned him, and their child. Chewing on her bottom lip as she continued to keep up her pace next to him, "My mother was that way. A Vagabond who threw me at my father's door step when she tired of me," Her voice cracked at the words when it set in that what she spoke of was so true. It had been a memory she pushed to the back of her mind as she tried to move on with her life underneath the welcoming arms of the Serorans, but now seeing her friend in a similar situation like she was once in brought back memories that she never wished to think of again. But maybe it was best that she had gone through the same thing for now she could understand what he was talking about, her heart ached and reached out to him as she tried desperately to get Ryder to realize that he wasn't alone, no matter how much he felt like it. After all he had Leif, and he now had Ra, who had someone managed to wiggle her way into a friendship with the older medicine horse.
Stepping through the threshold of his home, Ra chimed in on how lovely his home looked; although it was true, it was mainly a comment that she hoped would get him off the subject of his ex-wife even if it was just for a split second. Standing for a minute, she debated on if she should stay any longer because she didn't want to over stay her welcome but she found herself bounding over to the living rooming and making herself comfort in another one of his chairs that decorated the room. She remained silent for the next couple of minutes as she racked her brain on what to say next that would maybe offer more comfort to the stallion, but when nothing came to mind she stared at him with gentle blue eyes as she waited for him to speak first.

Ryder | Serora | Medicine-Horse
Ryder's ears pressed to his neck at her confession, and he offered her a sympathetic expression. It was incredibly hurtful to be abandoned by ones that you thought loved you enough to stay until 'death do us part'. Abandonment wasn't an answer for one's pain. It just gave your problems to someone else, and in this case, it seemed someone had dealt that blow to both of them. "I'm sorry, Ra, for what your mother did to you." Oh gods, from the way her voice cracked, he wished desperately to console her somehow but found himself at a loss for words as his brain fumbled with the idea of his own son feeling crippled by these very same emotions. The stallion turned away for a brief moment, feeling tears sting his eyes before he bit his lip to control the overwhelming desire to cry in front of Ra, to let all of this spill out of him.
His blue eyes followed Ra from his place on the couch as she surveyed his home. It wasn't the fanciest place in Sedo, but he loved it. It was his first place that was truly his when he arrived from Aquore all those years ago, and he'd payed for everything there with each shard he made when he was younger. It had taken forever to finally get everything exactly the way he wanted (especially since his wife had had a few touches that she wanted herself), but it had eventually become his dream-home.
Ryder sat silently as Ra placed herself in a chair across from him. His body ached from the exhaustion that he had placed on his body the last couple of months, but his eyelids didn't flicker close from drowsiness. Rather, he found himself in a state of constant tiredness and sleeplessness where his mind and body functioned just well enough to operate. "Thank you." He said gratefully for her compliment of his home as his mind worked in overdrive to think of something to say and work through the emotions that swirled around in his head. When he finally spoke, his voice cracked, forcing him to clear his throat before trying to speak again. "How did you get over what your mother did to you? It must have been difficult to forget." Ryder asked, his voice quiet in the silence of the room.

A sigh slipped past her lips as she wiggled farther down into the chair as her ears flicked back against her neck as the question left Ryder's lips. How did she get over it? Cocking her head to the side as she let the thought rush through her head before she let out another soft sigh, this time it sounded a lot more let down and sadden. In truth, she still held a grudge against her mother, but she wasn't going to tell Ryder that so she gave a soft smile and gave him only half of the truth, "My father helped a lot. He kind of taught me to move on from what was done from me. Plus, his love for me in genuine and I wouldn't doubt it for a second," She said as she smacked her lips together in thought, "Family really can help you move on." She added on as she thought of the foal that was sleeping in his room, possibly even unaware of the fact that his father was going through his spell of depression.
Sinking a little deeper into the chair, she watched Ryder from across the room as she debated on what she should say next. Ra wanted him to understand that she would be there for him whenever he needed it, and she was more than positive that Leif would be more than glad to comfort his father, but then again, she knew it would be hard to tell someone his age that his mother probably wasn't going to come back. "It'll all work out, Ryder. Maybe she might come back one day," Ra winced mentally at the fact she was giving him false hope, but she felt she had to do it in order to ease his broken heart, "But I think you need to accept that for the most part that she has moved on and left. You really can't keep running yourself ragged," She let her mouth fall shut as she took in a deep breath, thinking that she had said to much.
"You have your son, and me. Not to mention plenty of others who care about you," She quickly added on, hoping that she hadn't had hurt his feelings to bad and that he didn't think she was being to pushy about the situation.

Ryder | Serora | Medicine Horse
His tired eyes looked at her as she sat across the room from him, raking her brain for an answer to his question. He felt like that was all he was right then: one big question. Would he get better? Would he get over the fact that his wife had run out on him without saying why? Would he be able to comfort his son who was going through the loss of his mother when he felt like he couldn't even take care of himself? A pang of guilt stabbed his heart at the thought of the neglect his son probably already thought, and he wished he could go back in time and never make him go through all of this. Ryder's torn ear twitched slightly at the sound of Ra's comforting voice, listening in hope that her words would offer him some way to forget all of this, to get better or at least feel as though the weight of the world wasn't on his shoulders.
'Family...' Ever since Ryder could remember his family had caused him nothing but pain... that was until he met Effie, his now ex-wife. She had been the love of his life and had given him a son that he couldn't have been more proud of, but now, the pain of family had returned. It wasn't Leif's fault though. None of this was. A gentle sigh escaped Ryder's lips as he closed his eyes for a moment. Maybe focusing on being a father to his son and performing his duties as a Medicine-horse would ease the throbbing emptiness that surrounded his heart.
His eyes opened again as he realized that he hadn't spoken in quite some time, and his friend's words poured into his ears, causing his mind to figure out what it was that she was saying. 'Maybe she'll come back one day.' The hippocampus couldn't help but feel a sob almost shake his frame. Maybe she'd come back... but he knew his wife. She was headstrong and stubborn. The only reason why she would leave them would be if she thought that they were better off without her, and if she thought that, they would never see her again. "Perhaps." Ryder mumbled, glancing up to look at Ra as she continued to speak in a concerned tone. It was comforting to know that at least one had made sure he was okay instead of ignoring him like some beggar on the side of the road. At least she had made sure he had made it home and that he and his son were okay, or at least resting and mourning their loss. Ra certainly had one thing right: he couldn't keep this up. He'd tire himself to death if he kept this up. "You're right. I'll end up killing myself if I keep doing what I'm doing now. I tried... I tried to bring his mother back, but I think you're right... she has... moved on, and we should try our best... to do the same..."
Ryder's eyelids slipped down over his tired, blue eyes as he spoke. He fought to stay awake longer, but as he rested in his chair, eventually sleep won the battle, leaving him drifting off to the most peaceful sleep he had had in quite a long time.

The younger of the pair felt a soft smile play on her lips as she watched the stallion across from her struggle to keep awake as words fumbled from his mouth. Ra found herself chuckling as he took small pauses in between his words as if he was spending so much time focusing on making sure the words came from his lips in the right order. Blue orbs watched him carefully as she waited for him to drift off into a deeper slumber before she tried making a move, mainly out of feat that she would disturb him, and by the gods, she didn't want to be the reason to why he was yanked out of what seemed to be a peaceful sleep.
Standing up from her sitting position, she found herself pacing around in the room as she stared over at him with her own eyes, that were starting to sag with her own tiredness. She felt her heart twinge a little as she realized that it was probably wasn't the best idea for her to spend the night. The mare found herself having what seemed to be an internal struggle as she debated on what she should do, so with a long huff of air, she turned on her heels and made her way towards the door- ultimately deciding she didn't want to make Ryder too uncomfortable with her presence.
Disappearing through the threshold of the door, the mare glanced over her shoulder one more time as she let the cooling air swish the thick braid she had dangling from her neck, a few of the strands whipping around her face as she found herself drifting away into deep thought. She prayed to the Sky-Mother that he would be okay, that he would find peace in this time of distress, and that he would be able to move on from the mare that left him. Leif needed him after all, and the Sedro people needed him to tend to their wounds. Plus, she would appreciate him hanging around for as long as he could, and that meant he couldn't run himself ragged over a mare who she was sure wasn't coming back. With a loud huff, she let her hooves drag through the sand as she headed home for the night.
But she would make sure she returned soon for a check up.
