It felt like it had been months since he saw the light of day. It had taken him a long time to heal from his injuries. The wolf attack on his small retrieval team during the blizzard had left him torn to pieces and half frozen to death. The first few days were hard, coming in and out from consciousness, but the medics tending him had managed to do an incredible job. Sure his pelt was now marred with numerous scars, but the ladies loved it. And who wouldn't want to hear about how Liam had managed to beat off a whole pack of blood thirsty wolves single handedly! Well... mostly single handedly. But today, that story would be incredibly useful, because it was the flower festival.
His medic had finally given him the all clear that he was completely healed. Liam had been laying around for so long he almost forgot what it meant to run and be outside in the sun. Stepping out of the hut, the stallion took a deep breath and released it, pausing only a moment before he shot down the street. Liam ran, letting his legs stretch as he dodged around horses and leapt over carts full of flowers and produce. The streets grew more crowded as he made his way to the center of Skeldr Town and the stallion stopped at a flower booth to pick up a lei. After flirting with the mare running the stand and being run off by he overly protective brother, Liam picked up his run again, heading for the center of town.
The problem was, he was wildly out of shape. Weeks of laying around and waiting to heal had left him worse for wear, and his legs were beginning to grow weak and his breath was harder to catch. By the time he was a few streets away from the town square, the stallion was panting heavily and was getting closer to everything he managed to dodge. Unfortunately, a cart was rolled out in front of him from around a blind corner. Liam hit the breaks, but it wasn't enough. The stallion slammed into the cart, toppling the contents across the street and sending him end over end.
"My cabbages!!" the cart's owner cried, giving Liam a stern look. The stallion struggled to his feet among the spilled leaves. After a moment to take in the situation, Liam decided it might be best if he wasn't in the vicinity. "Sorry!" he called back as he bolted off, turning down an alley and weaving through the narrow streets until he felt like he was far enough away. He chuckled and sighed, shaking his head. He'd managed to lose his edge. It would take some work to get back. But looking down at his lei filled with fresh flowers reminded him. Today was the start of the Flower Festival. The perfect time for a new beginning.
