Caron "Now the Fire and Wind guide me to Freedom."
Post 257 | WC 1 The night of dragonsong had been… interesting. To say the least. The art show, the wyvern attack, because really, Moira and several others had gotten hurt, not to mention what happened at the Goldhead! Then Ignacio showed up and then they marched to the palace… Isador was killed, and now Aleksei was crowned king. There was little celebration in the moment, due to the kirin armies, and King Aleksei had passed laws… that Caron quite agreed with, even if they were left with even less to do, less to distract themselves with from the loss of Shiya.
So perhaps it was this feeling of restlessness, this need of distraction that Caron decided to answer the request for a meeting from the Eminent Elsidra, a handful of weeks after King Aleksei's coronation.
Caron loosely remembered the Eminent - a few years older than themselves and Shiya, they'd encountered each other a few times at gatherings and parties on the past when Shiya had been bidden to attend, though Caron doubted that Eminent Elsidra had ever taken note of them - They were, after all, simply Shiya's shadow back then.
Chiya chirped, preening Caron's ear from her perch on their back to try and calm the black kirin. They sighed, looking up at the house in front of them before knocking.
Dwelling on the past really did them no good, after all. They were there, to hopefully forge a path forward.
And so they waited for the door to open, and for them to either be turned away, or welcomed inside.

Elsidra || Post One ||
Elsidra was happy to invite Caron to his home. Shiya had been a staple at some of the events he'd attended, and through this connection, he had made some headway in understanding Caron - though they had been little noticeable at the time. Now, Sidra was stepping out of his comfort zone to speak with Caron for himself. He remembered how Caron had helped to march on King Isador, and this bravery was not looked upon lightly. It showed great strength to do so, and Sidra wasn't even sure how he'd managed to do it, let alone the number of commoners like Caron who made the march.
Today, Sidra was waltzing back and forth in his office, when the sound of someone knocking echoed through the house. Swearing to himself, Sidra dropped what he was doing; when had it become time for his visitor? With a soft sigh, the horse headed down the stairs as quickly as his hooves would carry him, hoping that the guest wouldn't be waiting too terribly long. Of course, he had two flights of stairs and an entryway to cross, so it was a moment before he arrived at the door.
This is why my parents kept slaves, I guess, Sidra thought to himself, as he used his Teke to pull the door open, revealing Caron and Chiya in the doorway. Sidra smiled at Caron, nodding a hello to them. He wasn't sure if he should greet the bird or not, so he just flicked an ear at her.
"Welcome, to both of you," Sidra said, smiling softly. "Ignacio's sun shine upon you both," he added, as he moved out the doorway so that the horse and their companion could make their way inside.

Caron "Now the Fire and Wind guide me to Freedom."
Post 2| WC 200 Caron couldn't help the electricity sparking around their hooves as they waited for the door to be opened, as nervous as they were, letting out a sigh of relief as it did open, the action helping them reign the sparks in, as they bowed to the Eminent opening the door. "... Eminent Elsidra. It's a pleasure to be meeting with you." They spoke evenly, measured and neutral. They were unsure of why Elsidra exactly wanted to talk with them, so they wished to absolutely avoid offending him, even with how easily the Eminent smiled. It did put them a bit at ease though, given that the dimes seemed to be warm and welcoming, and not hiding any ulterior motives.
Chiya let out an soft trill, fluffing her feathers a bit at the greeting, picking at and preening Caron's mane.
"And may Ignacio's sun shine on you, as well " the black kirin replied as they entered the house, noting, after a brief glance around, a lack of slaves or other servants.
How curious, they found. "...So shall we head to study, or sitting area then? I… must admit I find myself curious of… why you wished to speak with me, Emin Elsidra."

Elsidra || Post Two
Elsidra dipped his head again, nodding to the idea of heading for the sitting room. Or, rather, in this case, his office. "Upstairs," he said, as he motioned for Caron and their familiar to follow him. He had no qualms about letting them into his house; if anything went missing, he could call up some Chevaliers fast enough to make up for what he might have lost. Not that he expected Caron to steal from him; they seemed rather...demure almost. And that was pleasant enough. As they walked, Sidra began to speak.
"I've heard of you...through Shiya," he said, whispering the deceased mare's name with a hint of reverence. "And I've heard that you might be...in need of my assistance," he stated softly. "But we'll talk more once we're upstairs," he stated, as he clambered up the stone stairs, towards his office. "I suppose I should offer you tea, or wine perhaps? Or something to eat? I have to admit, since my family...passed on...I'm no longer much of a host," he stated shyly.

Caron "Now the Fire and Wind guide me to Freedom."
Post 3 | WC 223 Caron gave a hum as they followed Elsidra upstairs, his ears flicking back a moment when Elsidra mentioned Shiya, but back forward when he mentioned assistance. Try as Caron might, they knew that help was… something they always needed. "Of course…" they mused in response as Elsidra said they'd talk more upstairs.
Well, at least that told them that the Eminent had remembered them, at least somewhat from those few parties, though that did little to ease the small storm of nerves in their chest.
...And then came the awkward offer of wine of tea, along with some food, and Caron couldn't help but give a tiny chuckle at the shyness Elsidra exhibited. "If it's… already prepared, I would be glad to accept. I would not care to unnecessarily take up your time, after all. I've noticed… a lack of servants here." They mused "But I suppose drink wise, tea would be my preference for the moment." They gave a small smile, as Chiya looked around as they climbed the stairs, her talons finding purchase on Caron's scales to keep her from sliding off on the incline as they followed Elsidra to his office.
That… that certainly did help put Caron at more ease with the meeting. At the very least, they weren't the only one who might be awkward in the moment.

Elsidra || Post Three
Elsidara nodded. "If you'll just follow these steps, at the back of the house is my office," he said, shuffling out of the way so that Caron could make their way up the stairs. "Please, make yourself at home, and I'll bring it to you," he said. He didn't have the heart to say that most of the staffing had fallen apart when his parents died. He could have kept the slaves on, but hadn't been with it enough to buy them back after the labor crisis, and so ended up with little staff to help him. Instead, he managed for himself. Not hard, being the only Noble left alive from the family. He wasn't all that hard to care for either, having simple tastes for one of his standing.
Without musing these thoughts aloud, Sidra nodded to Caron and slipped downstairs, to the kitchen. The tea pot was already singing - he'd been expecting something would be needed for guests, and he had also opened a bottle of wine to breathe, in case tea wasn't warranted. But his first guess had been right. So, he fixed a tray with two cups, and used his teke to carry it upstairs with him. Entering the office, he set the tray down before Caron, saying, "There's sugar and milk, if you like." He wasn't sure why he said this, as they were clearly plain to see on the tray, but he couldn't take it back.
"So...where do we start?" He asked, regarding Caron with his pale yellow eyes, curious to begin.

Caron "Now the Fire and Wind guide me to Freedom."
Post 4 | WC 217 Caron gave a brief nod to the Emin when he said to go ahead, and so they did. As they had a moment, they looked around the office with a hum before Elsidra arrived with the tea. Caron hummed as the tray was set in front of them - And habit kicked in for the former servile, as they poured tea into the two cups, pausing after they set the teapot back down, with a chuckled sigh to themself as Elsidra made mention of the year and milk. "...Of course, thank you." They gave a hint of a smile, before thinking over the question. Where to start? "I'd have hoped you'd have some idea." Caron replied as they heaped four teaspoons of sugar into their tea before taking a sip. "But… I suppose the reason for this meeting would be as good a place as any… But I am left guessing as to why you'd like to speak with me?" They quirked their head to the side with the question. "Is it to do with my presence at the march the other week? Or something else entirely?" They asked. "Is there something you want of me? Though I do not care now if I'm recognized, I'd still rather prefer to not get into trouble given the last year…"

"It's simple enough," Elsidra said, shrugging his shoulders and shaking his neck so that the crest of his mane wobbled slightly. "You need an alibi, do you not? You were not...always as you are now, from what I heard," he said, swishing his tail from side to side lazily. He'd not known much about Caron, but it didn't take a genius to put two and two together, when he'd been around the nobility and their servants for most of his own life. "You cannot simply...appear. So...as a favor to my late Noble counterpart, Shiya," he said, dipping his head in memory to the other, "I want to offer you an alibi. I'm not sure...what...it would be, but something. Some way to keep you safe from prying eyes and minds. Thoughts?" He fell silent, waiting to hear what the other horse might have in their mind about all this.

Caron "Now the Fire and Wind guide me to Freedom."
Post 5| WC 323 Caron watched Elsidra carefully as the eminent said what he wanted was simple. To them, it was easy to see his nervousness, in the way Elsidra shrugged, the swish of his tail. Or, of course, Caron could just be reading into the actions far too much. Who could blame them? They hardly knew Elsidra, but… here, the Eminent was offering to them a way to explain their year long disappearance, as nothing more than a favor to Shiya. "I… the offer is quite incredible, Emin. Elsidra." They set their teacup down on the tray as they contemplated, Chiys trilling comfortingly.
"As… as for my thoughts… I suppose it depends on the alibi. As it stands… Flamen Moira has been encouraging me to try for a position at Ignacio's Touch - So… perhaps an alibi that would have had me hidden… which is all to easy to craft, with your backing. Shiya's grandmother was not the most open of household affairs. Since…. That estate was burned down… it's possible to say that I'd been re-purchased - though I know she wouldn't have, and had been quietly serving in the shadows, and in the aftermath, I'd ended up here as a newly transformed Kirin?" They posed it as a question, so that Elsidra could have input, to add to the details and make it more believable. "It… puts me under scrutiny for the fire…. But at the time, supposedly I'd have still had a bitted bridal that surprised my gifts. And… any that know me, would know that I'd have died before letting Shiya burn…" Their ears pinned back at the thought, Chiya corning and preening Caron's mane. "...All my work for the past year has been for naught, so…. Now I wish to help any that I can, so that they stop getting hurt by the people in power." They took a breath, as they looked up to Elsidra. "So what do you think of that?"

"Well, it seems like you could have had a place here," Elsidra mentioned, nodding as he thought it over. "Although I can't promise that the alibi would be foolproof, I can offer you as much safety as I possibly can," he stated simply. "It's not as though you would be under the heaviest of scrutinies, I dare think," Elsidra muttered with a small smile. "And...your cause is a noble one," he added thoughtfully. "In any way that I can be helpful, I will be happy to be of service," the champagne horse said, swishing his tail as he spoke. "It's not my place to say that the governing hoof needs to be taken away from Aodh...but I can think it," mused the horse with his yellow eyes regarding his guest curiously. "In agreement, I suppose we are there," he mused. "If all you need is my word that you were safely in my fold, then you shall have it," Elsidra offered with a nod of finality.

Caron "Now the Fire and Wind guide me to Freedom."
Post 6| WC 200 Caron nodded as Elsidra spoke - No alibi could ever be foolproof. They never expected one - But one that would turn away most from looking deeply? Making it safe, for them to take up the Armiger Tessana's offer of a job? They would take it.
They'd still continue their work as a smuggler, though. So with a slight smile, Caron gave a bow. "Thank you, Eminent Elsidra. That's all I would ask of you for the moment. In exchange, well… you simply need to ask of me, and I can assist in some tasks. An ally that I could turn to… is rather more valuable than gold to me at current." They hummed as they straightened back, relaxing now that Elsidra had promised the alibi. All in all, this meeting… unexpected, it may have been, was productive to them.
Perhaps, Elsidra would be open to them being… friends? ...Caron dare not speak of that thought. They had no real rank, no position. Allies, they could make use of each other. Friends… they'd not called anyone friend since they'd been forced away from Shiya. The thought was strange to Caron now. But… for the moment they went to discard it as unimportant.

Elsidra || Eminent || Post 6
The champagne stallion regarded this creature before him, wondering what they thought. Of course, he would not consider them a friend without getting to know them, but it seemed that the two of them would be seeing a lot more of each other in the coming months. So perhaps it was an option. Of course, Elsidra was not one to jump in without heavily considering the weight of what he was doing. But Caron...they seemed like they needed help, and he was of the position to be able to help. So why not? It was the least that the sable champagne stallion could do, right? Of course, things would be...different...if he were to befriend a smuggler, and different still if he were to offer true aid in times of need. But he couldn't stop himself from reaching out.
"Now," said the stallion, clearing his throat. "I think our business is finished..do you not? I believe we can iron out the details at any time, really. We've worked out the big pieces; just the solder to fit in," he chuckled softly. A glassworker's joke.

Post 7 | WC 183 "Yes, of course Eminent Elsidra." Caron bowed, giving a small smile. "And truly, thank you for your help in this matter… though, I must ask, was that supposed to be some manner of joke?" They tilted their head in question, causing Chiya to chirp as the motion disturbed where she had been preening the Kirin's mane. "I suppose, in future any messages sent for me could be directed to the Ignacio Touch Spa, after I tell Armiger Tessana I'll accept her offer of a position as one of the faces on the ground floor." Caron hummed at that. "Perhaps you'll stop by one day?" The question slipped out with a tilt of their head.
Chiya chirped as she pulled on a strand of Caron's mane, causing them to pause and chuckle. "...Though I suppose Chiya here is getting impatient, so..m I suppose I'll ask to take my leave now, Eminent Elsidra." Caron gave him another small smile. "So I shall wish a pleasant day, and that Ignacio's light bless your day." They hummed, finishing off their tea before setting the cup down.

Elsidra, smiled softly, saying, "Just a bit of glassworker's humor. Nothing to consider too terribly important," as he flicked his tail. "But, it seems that you are right. Your companion is wishing to take her leave, as you should," he told Caron with a dip of his head. "I will look forward to seeing you at Ignacio's Touch in the future, should we need to meet. Or if I need to get my hooves trimmed," he hummed softly. "Thank you for reaching out to me. And Caron? Be careful. This world is full of many, dangerous things." With this, the stallion got up and headed them towards the front door. He dipped his head again, in way of goodbye, before turning back to his business for the day. After all, the life of a Noble was never not-busy when they had to be responsible for keeping up appearances all alone.
