It was still fairly early in the morning, but true to habit Acorro had already been up for a while. There was something peaceful about the morning just as the dawn was breaking, and he did enjoy watching the sun rise during warm-up stretches. He'd run his laps of the ruins already, said good morning to the usual familiar faces he'd gotten to know on his route, and given Lailiah her morning groom and attention.
With not much else on the cards for the morning, he'd defaulted to his usual fallback of drills and training, hauling his gear out to the flat piece of hard-packed land on the outskirts of the ruins that he'd adopted as his training grounds. It was hardly the most inventive past time around, but it kept him in excellent shape for his work, with the added bonus of keeping him out of trouble. ALya only knew that Acorro didn't need any extra help when it came to getting into trouble - just because he'd matured some from his teenage hellion years didn't mean he'd lost his trouble-finding spark.
He ran through the standard drills for swordwork, the motions so second-nature to him that they required barely any thought, and after a few repetitions lowered the weapon with a mildly disgruntled sigh. Training alone had its limitations, and repeating the same motions as always felt stale today. He shook himself down vigorously, turning to switch his sword for a lance and start on the different set of drills, when a figure caught his eye. After a moment he realised they weren't just flitting by and he quirked his head before calling out a greeting. "Wind beneath your wings," he greeted with a bright smile, happy to pause and chat.

- the beat is bumpin' hard like Boom! boom! boom! -
She soared. There was no other word for it. Wings spread wide and back arched just enough to tilt her further up into the sky Nefeli allowed herself to float on the air. She had no words for the feeling being so high up gave to her. No way to define it or really explain it to anyone else. Her heart raced and she felt filled to the brim with exhilaration with just the slightest hint of apprehension. How did the sky hold her so close? She knew she had to help it otherwise she'd plummet down like so much dead weight, but how did it hold her in those brief moments?
The wind lessened as the thermal she had ridden finally died beneath her. Slowly she sank until the last of her momentum faded entirely. There was a stomach dropping moment of suspension before she dropped like a rock, suddenly seized by the gravity she had been defying moments before. Her grin grew larger still as she folded her wings tighter to her body and twisted into a spiral straight at the ground. Momentarily she wondered what it sounded like to witnesses when she dove like that, on her end it was just a shrill whistle of air passing by her long ears. Then she unfurled her wings and lifted abruptly up into a hover.
"Oh," the gray mare was surprised to find herself significantly further down the way than where she'd started in the predawn gray an hour or so before. Sunlight spilled warm and inviting over the ruins and a lone figure below her. Curiosity got the better of her and she swept around in a wide loop to watch as they exercised before drawing closer. Close enough, it seemed, to be noticed. Her smile stretched into a wide grin.
"Wind beneath your wings, brother," Nefeli answered the greeting with the same vibrant warmth that she would greet her flight mates or parents. Her amber eyes danced with her mirth as she watched him. "Do you always practice alone?" Hastily she dropped to the ground to stand level with Acorro, wings mantled over her shoulders to balance herself. 342 words, Post #1

He had to say that he was surprised to see someone about quite so early, especially on the edges of Osulas, but it was a pleasant change. He was a social creature and he liked to see others about, it was strange to be on one's own for any length of time. The warmth of the pegasus' greeting wasn't lost on the roan and he grinned broadly in return, pleased to have met such a friendly face early on in the day; a good smile from a stranger in the morning always seemed to set you up for a good day ahead.
He tilted his head slightly at the question before shaking it with a softer smile. "Only in the absence of good company," he replied. He'd never quite understood horses that preferred to train alone when company was an option. Even asides from the benefits of an outside eye and different training perspectives, the idea of isolating yourself just seemed... strange to him. Lonely. Maybe it was the teamwork mentality of skirmishers, or maybe it was just him, but training alone by choice was one of the things in the world that simply didn't make sense.
On that note actually... She looked like she was in more of a fighting shape than your usual everyday member of Folk, and even if not it wasn't like fighting skills were uncommon in the herd. "You wouldn't happen to be up for a friendly match, would you?" he asked with a twinkle in his eye as he sat back on his haunches slightly so that he could bring his forefeet off the ground and box gently at the air in front of her. "So long as your promise you'll go easy on me of course," he added with a mischievous smirk.

- the beat is bumpin' hard like Boom! boom! boom! - Absence? But why would he have to go without a companion anyway? Did his friends not enjoy early mornings too? How absurd. Nefeli considered the concept and abandoned it just as soon as it crossed her mind. How could anyone not enjoy a beautiful morning, however early it was? She shook her head to chase herself from her own thoughts when he spoke again, looking up in brief confusion.
"Uhm..." what had he asked? Go easy on him? Oh! A spar!
She bounced a half stride closer to him, fanning her wings before clamping them tight to her sides and grinning at Acorro. "I'd be delighted to!" She agreed. "You never know what a new set of eyes can tell you about yourself!" And, if she was honest with herself, she really did need to get better on the ground anyway. It would be silly to neglect her own training.
"I promise!" She doubted she could do half of what he could in a match, but he had asked and she didn't mind making such a promise. She chuckled to her own thoughts, shook herself out and stepped closer still to stand in a comfortably square frame within reach for such a friendly bout to begin.
"Oh! I'm Nefeli-" She grinned sheepishly. "I forgot to introduce myself, forgive me poor manners."
