Haji sighed softly, her gaze shifting up towards the night sky momentarily. It was such a strange, unusual, and uncomfortably beautiful sight that the king had yet to adjust to… Still, they kept their feelings hidden behind a mask of calm as they wandered among their people. While this was their first Night of the New Sun on the surface, and definitely felt different than it had in the past, it was good to see their fellow Umare letting loose and having a bit of fun. Smiling, Haji meandered through the gardens, greeting and engaging with those who stopped to talk to him. While a few did voice concerns about the herd’s recent hardships, most seemed focused on the here and now - eager for a moment to forget about the strangeness of the world around them, if only for a moment. The king paused as the sound of a flute reached his ears, and he turned to see a young musician playing. Smiling, Haji stood there quietly listening and gently bobbing his head to the upbeat music. Tenebris | Tie
The change brought about by the Ascension was still being felt by Tenebris and his family. Their businesses, the Inn and tea shop, needed to go through adjustments such as making a new garden space for the teas and spices that Tenebris used and making repairs to the Inn that seemed to continue to get damage from the happenings in the world. The sun was something new to deal with as well as the brightness it cast kept the unicorn and his family inside as they adjusted to the day. They soon found themselves adjusting their sleeping patterns to be more active during the night as it was familiar to the underground world they once lived in. It helped that between Tenebris and his mother they could brew calming teas that helped with sleeping throughout the day, and they offered it to their patrons for a reduced price if they asked for it. If...there was a patron, that was. Tenebris was wiping his counters down as the sun set the day the celebration was taking place, watching equines pass on their way to the Palace. He was still debating on if he wanted to go or not, thinking he could offer samples if he did go, but he felt like he should keep his shop open just in case he got lucky and someone would want to stop in. His attention was pulled away from his cleaning as hoof steps echoed in the empty shop. He looked over his shoulder spying his grandfather, Senritsu, pulling an apron on. “ Grandfather...what are you doing?” he asked, walking over to the old horse. “ Go out and enjoy yourself, you’ve been working too hard these days,” the aged horse replied, giving his grandson a cheeky grin. “ I-...what about you? What about the Inn?” Tenebris replied, as Senrisu pushed him out of his shop’s front opening. “ I can’t just leave you guys…” “ Don’t waste your youth, Tenebris. It’s okay to have fun every once in a while. Besides, don’t forget you need to make me great grandbabies!” Senritsu chuckled as Tenebris felt his face flush. “ Get going, I’ll watch the shop. Your parents can handle the Inn...it’s not like business has been booming since we’ve been shoved up here.” Tenebris nodded reluctantly and let out a soft sigh. “ If you say so. I won’t stay out too long!” The unicorn joined the throngs of Umare heading to the Palace. He looked up to the sky, noticing the stars as a chill sent a shiver through his body. He had a feeling this winter was going to be colder than he was used to. The stars reminded him of the crystal lights he was used to, but farther away and more cold. He pulled his gaze back to earth as he entered the Palace Gardens looking around to see what there was to do. The musicians looked to be a popular choice and it seemed like it would be the best choice to get comfortable by watching a performance before checking out some of the food stalls. Taking a spot in the crowd around a young flute player, Tenebris was unaware his king was only a few bodies away from him as he settled in.

"Quite talented for one so young." Haji said with an approving smile, glancing over at an equine who had also wandered near to listen. "May Argus smile upon our meeting this night, and may your next year be filled with their light." The young king said with a slight dip of their head as they greeted the other. "How is the holiday treating you, my friend?" She asked, taking a few steps closer to the other. Haji had always enjoyed mingling with their people and getting to know them, though the opportunities to do so were few and far between - especially in recent months. Word Count: 104

A voice came out over the flute player, commenting on the other’s talent, causing Tenebris to gently smile. “ Ah, yes. They have a bright future ahead of them. The young seem to get more talented with each generation,” he replied, sounding like his grandfather. Tenebris wasn’t that much older than the flute player, but he found himself a tad jealous of the youth’s musical ability. They would have no issues finding their place in the herd if they kept to it. Tenebris glanced over to see who was talking to him just as Haji made her way over to him and he felt his jaw drop. “M-my King!” he gasped, quickly lowering himself into a deep bow. “ Y-yes! May Argus smile upon our meeting, and may your next year be filled with their light as well!” He had only seen Hajime from far distances in the past, and now being this close to them was a little nerve wrecking. He lifted himself up, being careful to not accidentally knock heads with Haji, clearing his throat to find his confidence. “ To be honest, my King, I just arrived. My grandfather sent me out of my shop to ‘not waste my youth and enjoy myself’. He had a more sinister tone though…” He trailed off, shaking his head at his grandfather’s words. “ If I had known I’d be running into you, ah, my King, I could’ve brought some tea samples or snacks for you to try! I just developed a calming brew that is perfect for those of us who find themselves wanting to live in the night, rather than under the sun’s harsh light and heat. My mother tested it out and she said it relaxed her and she could sleep through the whole day! Oh, look at me, I’m talking too much…” Tenebris didn’t want to overwhelm Haji with his nonsense and shop, so he decided he’d stop. The King probably wanted to enjoy herself and not listen to the troubles of their subjects at the moment. Tonight was supposed to be a celebration, not a business meeting! The unicorn mentally punished themselves, clearing his throat again. “ E-excuse me, I just get a tad overly excited sometimes. I’m being rude.” He felt his face heat up a little. The music died down as the flute player ended their tune, thanking those around listening, before picking up with another song. Tenebris quickly glanced at them, giving them a small nod, before looking back to Hajime. “ How about you, my King? Are you enjoying yourself this evening?”

Hajime nodded politely as the stranger fumbled over himself when he realized who he was speaking to. They listened intently as the other rambled for a moment, enjoying hearing from someone who wasn't so tied up in the more political aspects of the herd. “E-excuse me, I just get a tad overly excited sometimes. I’m being rude.” “How about you, my King? Are you enjoying yourself this evening?”"No need to apologize my friend, it's good to know my people still find reasons to be excited." They said with nod. "Please don't fret, I haven't found your behavior to be rude at all." Haji added with a small shake of their head. "So far, I have found the night to be quite pleasant and enjoyable. Seeing so many of my people celebrating is good for the soul." They continued, a small smile crossing their lips. "This year has been difficult for us all, and I have found hope in the promise of a fresh start." Word Count: 166

Tenebris felt relief wash over him as Hajime seemed unphased by his ramblings. He gave his king a nod in return, agreeing with them. “ It is very good to be able to look at this past year and realize how much stronger we’ve gotten. We’ve overcome so many disasters and to see everyone here, in the now, celebrating? I don’t think I would’ve been able to believe it if you were talking to me when the crystal shattered or when the cave ceiling came down on Nariah…” He paused as he thought back on the previous year. He had gone through a lot, personally. He found the courage to rescue a son for a grieving mother in the rubble after the ceiling collapse, and even joined a group of volunteers that found the giant monster that eventually gave them a new power source, which then led him to joining another group that brought arcane spirits back to the herd. Tenebris had become more than just a tea shop owner; he had played a small part in his herd’s growth. The unicorn let out a small laugh. “ Ah...so many things in such little time…” He glanced around the garden, before turning back to his king. “ Have you been offered anything to eat or drink? What do you like to snack on?” he asked, ears perked forward with genuine interest.
