Medwin | Apprentice | He/Him
Bright, curious eyes roved over a selection of fine tipped calligraphy pens, and a growing sense of excitement fluttered in Medwin's stomach. Though Argus knew he had what was likely more than enough, fetching a new piece of art equipment still always managed to lift his spirits. The ones laid out before him were finer quality than any of those he had used thus far, and the prospect of investing in the new supplies had him bordering on giddy. Morgan stood idly nearby as he browsed, though Medwin was unsure if his grandparent was truly listening to his excited ramblings; as of yet, he had not quit speaking for long enough to pay attention to such details.
"I think this one would be fantastic for my latest project!" Medwin chattered onward, lifting the aforementioned pen for closer a closer assessment. "It's a lineage tree, normally we don't receive commissions but the calligraphy Master thought I might-"
Medwin's words were cut suddenly as a new sensation took over his focus. A low rumble echoed throughout the cobbled streets, and something shifted beneath his hooves. A mixture of shock and fear rooted him to place, and Medwin found himself paralyzed as uneasy murmurs erupted around them. The pen he had been examining wavered and then dropped to the ground with a soft clatter, going unnoticed as the turmoil rose.
Memories of a similar event, when the earth that encased them, protected them, shattered to reveal the skylight that now broke the ceiling above, leaped to the forefront of his mind. The panic rose in waves now, muscles refusing to obey him as Medwin watched, transfixed, as the fallen pen began to vibrate and tremble between his front hooves.
The earth quivered slightly; then, it shook.
"Is it another earthquake?" Medwin shouted, a panicked squeak edging into his voice as he shared a terrified glance with his grandparent.
Even as the words left his mouth he knew them to be wrong. This was not akin the to the earthquakes Nariah had experienced in the past, this was the cause of no natural force; there was something determinedly otherworldly about the swiftness and strength of the shaking earth.
A horrible sense of vertigo struck Medwin as he stumbled, his hooves scrambling for purchase on the vibrating earth. It was with great struggle that he attempted to orient himself as his weak legs deposited him unceremoniously to the ground, crashing against the hard surface with a painful thud. Blood rushed through his ears in a deafening crescendo, nearly enough to block out the unintelligible shrieks and clattering of loose items that ricocheted off the streets of Nariah. Gone was rational thought, replaced instead with a pure, undiluted fear that pulsed through his veins and clouded his mind.
The earth shuddered, trembling, groaning as something, or someone, ripped it from it's ancient resting place.
Somewhere in the corner of his reeling mind, Medwin uttered a prayer to Argus, to Kaia, to Alya; to any that could quiet the shattering earth and deliver them from harm.

A sigh passed through Gemstones lips when she exited the hospital. It was too early for her to have been ushered out, in her opinion, but her grandmother had fallen asleep mid-conversation and the healers thought it was a good idea for Gemstone to get out and about for a while. Gemstone had tried to disagree, tried to get them to let her just stay, but with the amount of time she stayed there daily, she might as well have been a patient herself. Obviously, the healers had won their bid, and she was escorted out of the building with kind words.
She sighed again, her ears folding back against her head. How long had her grandmother been in the hospital now? She couldn't even remember anymore. Not that it really mattered, she had gotten used to it. She just wished her grandmother would heal faster.
Again she sighed.
She felt something shift on her back, knowing instantly it was her Devil Bird Familiars, Tama and Kei. They had shifted their weight, trying to comfort her without actually speaking words of comfort. She glanced back at them, seeing six eyes looking back at her expectantly. Her Arcane Spirit, Chime, lingered close by. His glowing eyes were fixated on her with a similar stare, clouds of arcane smoke billowing around him. She mustered a smile, her ears relaxing from their tensed position.
"Alright, let's go check on Garrick." She spoke softly, starting to walk again.
The market was bustling as usual, and she felt a slight temptation to look around. It had been a while since she had explored the market. It humored her, as she thought about it, that the last time she had gone to explore was the day she met Yoru. The happy memory, however, was interrupted by a shrill pair of squawks by her companions.
She recognized the sound. But she didn't even have time to look over her shoulder. It was low enough that likely most of the Bremian citizens roaming Nariah probably didn't even notice at first. Until the ground itself shifted. Talons sink deeply into the cloak covering and protecting her back, and she could feel the sharp appendages brush against her skin.
"Something is wrong!" Tama had voiced behind her, Gemstones gift allowing her to understand the strange language Familiars possessed. But Gemstone didn't really hear her, even those her wide eyes were fixated on a point in the distance behind her. Chime had vanished, and although Gemstone didn't comprehend it at the moment, she had subconsciously kept mentally screaming for her grandmother. Due to her Blessing, Chime had gone to do what Gemstone wanted him to; check her Grandmother was safe.
Another quiver traveled up her legs, and she wasn't sure if it was just the earth or a combination of that and her own terror. In a moment of panic, she broke into a gallop. Her destination was the Temple of Argus. It wasn't far, but she had to make it there. Last time, the Guardians had appeared to protect her, surely they would do it again. If she could just get there before stones cascaded down to crush her to death.
The ground shifted again, lurching skyward and sending her flying. Tama and Kei had taken flight a half a second before the tremor hit, and the pair were flying into the air as Gemstone was tossed like a rag doll. She was ingloriously deposited in a very unflattering mess of legs and cloth, the breath and scream knocked from her lungs. Pain wracked her body, but she knew better than to stand, not with the ground continuing to push her high and higher. Light was poring in from above, light that was unfamiliar and bright and painful.
She didn't even notice that she was just a few feet from another, Medwin, as he lay sprawled out with terror in his own eyes. Her vision was blurry, and she realized that she was crying. Snapping her eyes shut, sending a cascade of liquid down her face, she started to do exactly what Medwin was doing; pray.
Argus was, naturally, called upon, as he was her Patron through and through, and her faith rested mostly upon him. But seeing as they were children of the underground, living safely, perhaps at another time, within Kaia's earth, the Earth Goddess was pleaded to. And, out of habit perhaps, Alya was also asked to help.
Protect everyone.
Soaring above their heads were Tama and Kei, casting spiraling shadows from the unfamiliar light.

Morgan | Tie (City engineer)
Morgan sighed as she walked through Nariah's buzzy streets, nodding to one horse she passed or another. The thing with with being an Umare was you could hardly pass the street without running into anyone you knew since you knew virtually everyone. Luckily equine knew how to respect each others business and time, so she could pass along without elaborate greetings and talk. Normally she wouldn't be opposed to indulging in such chatter, but she didn't feel like it right now. It had been a rather average day at work, well as far as things were average these days at least. No major happenings and a rather dull afternoon class had filled Morgan's time. Despite the lack of excitement her day had held, Morgan still felt rather due for rest as she walked home, looking forward to a quiet chat with the neighbours that night as she smoked her pipe. She had had a bit too much to worry about these past few months and paired with her age, she was starting to feel the effects of it all. Life, wouldn't be life however if it did not have other plans, as such her quiet walk home and plans were quite literally shaken up as the earth above and below them trembled.
Morgan shouted in surprise and grabbed the side of a house with her teke to keep steady as she watched with big eyes to whatever it was that was happening. As walls became shorter and ceiling gave away, she realised they were rising, much to her horror, suspicions soon enough confirmed by sky becoming much vaster, stretching as far as she could see... when she could. She blinked furiously initially, the sudden light, unkept by walls, blinding. When she saw what going on and where they now where, she grabbed onto the wall tighter.
Her first reaction was fear. They were open and exposed and though she could feel Argus, vague and distant, she felt panicked, a moment need to catch her breath as her heart pounded and the air escaped her lungs. Above ground. It was the most dangerous place she'd ever thought she'd be. It was the place where they once faced devastation and the place she personally lost her granddaughter to. It was that thought that pulled her out of her frozen state as a second emotion took over. Protectiveness. She had to make sure her family was safe, to make sure her herd was safe and with that overflowing feeling she was off, hurrying towards the home she had been going towards in the first place, determination making her push on as she still struggled with the light and the dizzying plane that was the sky.
She wrecked her head on steps to take, protection to put in place. The edges of the city had to be guarded. What strange creatures, spirits and monsters might live here as well? What kind of elements would they be exposed to? Her hairs stood on end and while she half-heartedly pondered the why, she at the same time was more worried about action. Wards, she would grab those at home and distribute them as she went. A little layer of protection would do others well right now, including herself.
