Mateusz "I can feel my enemy begin to fear my drum I am ready when it comes to pain, I'm numb I can tell you things you won't believe I've done I kill to feel alive."
Mateusz had been asleep, his late-night shift rather exhausting. He had snuggled up that early morning against the fireplace, eyes downcast toward the ground. Caivarus was probably just awakening, and Teu didn't want to disturb them.
He had draped a nearby blanket over his body, buried his head in a pillow and drifted off to sleep in the warmth of the fire. They were really the only household on the block who burned one, though a fireplace--though small--was available to almost everyone in the upper-middle district.
He stirred from a nightmare actually, one that shook him to the core oftentimes. It was dreams of red, of blue, but not the kind he was so fondly used to. The unicorn's body shivered in a cold sweat, the fire still burning vigilant being the only thing that calmed him.
Then the earth began to groan, shaking wearily as if reluctant to move from its place. But this was no ordinary earthquake, for Teu felt his very being be lifted, soaring as if he were... flying? No, that wasn't quite it. It was the stomach-lurching feeling when one falls a little too far, too quickly, a dip perhaps.
At first he thought it was Kaia's doing. But there was something in the air, something that excited him as the house vibrated faintly. There was still greater concerns though, and with a turn of his head he shouted through the house to hopefully find a certain kirin's earts.
"Caivarus!" he yelled, pushing himself up onto unsteady feet as he moved himself to find the blue-scaled equine. But before he could even take the first step, the moving had stopped. Instead, a sort of floating feeling overcame him, as if he were being suspended in the air. The dark and cozy home seemed to be so much brighter all of a sudden, and his eyes immediately went to the windows.
He was met with a blinding light, one he once so dearly cherished. Now he was terrified of it.
The sun beamed down upon Sterling in its full force, reflecting through crystal wall that created a dancing pink and purple hue. He made to shriek, but only a soft whimper came from his throat as he stared, doe-eyed at the sight around him. This could only be the work of one god, perhaps two. No, Argus wouldn't ever allow it-- but maybe?
"Digend!" he cried, running to find Caivarus. He rarely spoke of the god, but she was his deity, the only one he could rely on now. And now she was here.

╬ ⧖ C A I V A R U S ⧖ ╬ "I didn't care if he was a genius or a fucking idiot, he was rotting away, and it wasn't fun to watch." They were asleep before the rumbling started. Caius left alone in their mind, as Varus had left their shared dreams to explore elsewhere. If it wasn't almost annoying to see him come and go like that, Caius would almost appreciate it... Varus always made sure that their dreams never turned into nightmares before he left Caius alone. So Caius was just left alone, the only time he could be left alone with his own thoughts, with no one else's voice, no one else to control his limbs.
But they were both awoken, both of them being flung out of their dreamspaces back to their shared consciousness, leaving them both shouting out, leaping awake. Shaking. Rumbling. The earth groaning, the ground beneath them moving in a manner they did not have experience with.
"C-Caius-" Varus got out, stumbling, looking towards the room door. It was a silent agreement, a silent plea, and the other soul wordlessly took control of their body, Varus willingly falling back to allow him access.
"Caivarus!"
"Teu- Caius, that was Teu, what's going on-"
Caius' ears pricked, and with gritted teeth, he hissed a curse under his breath. He shoved their body up, moving to the door, ripping it open. "Here! We're here!" He called out, voice rough. Stumbling out into the hallway, he crashed into the wall, grunting lowly, lifting his head.
It stopped.
Just as quickly as it came, it simply left. The rumbling stopped, the ground stopped heaving, and they were left with a sick feeling in their stomach.
"Caius..."
"I know." Caius muttered, starting down the hall, noticing the room ahead was brighter than it normally was. What was... He heard another shout from Teu. Digend? What, or who, was that? Caius went to pick up speed before the red unicorn practically ran into them. He quickly caught both him and Teu, keeping them from falling, and then just as quickly putting space between them. "What's going on?" He asked, quickly moving on, keeping his mind elsewhere. It was Varus' job to worry about the unicorn. Not his.
Moving into the other room, he hissed, squeezing their eyes shut from the light before slowly opening them, slitted pupils contracting sharply in the new light. New light? From what? Slowly he opened their eyes, hearing a small gasp from Varus in the back of their mind. Light. Light not from crystals lighting the cave walls.
"Sunlight." They breathed in a hushed voice.

Mateusz "I can feel my enemy begin to fear my drum I am ready when it comes to pain, I'm numb I can tell you things you won't believe I've done I kill to feel alive."
He released a sigh of great relief when they came running round the bend of the small hallway. He made to rush toward them, but Caius caught the three before any collision occurred.
Flustered now from his desperate cry to the kirin, Teu looked now toward the window, again, eyes wide and glassy. He hadn't seen the sun, breathed the fresh air in so long. The senses flooded his nose, and he was momentarily overwhelmed.
Then they spoke.
Sunlight.
A shiver ran down his spine at the sound of their voices, morphing into one while still having distinction between the two. The unicorn would have been excited for them, eager to show them the world had they not spoken with such terror in their voice. Had he not felt the terror they spoke of.
The sun meant change, and it was change Teu had always wanted. But not like this, no, this was just reverting back to the old for him. This was new for the Breimians, but not for him. He was different. But so was Caius, and Varus.
He looked to the conjoined kirin, who seemed at first entranced by the sun. Teu stepped forward, momentarily blocking their view. It was sad, the words that escaped his lips. They all knew what the sun meant.
"Please don't leave me," he whispered hoarsely.

╬ ⧖ C A I V A R U S ⧖ ╬ "I didn't care if he was a genius or a fucking idiot, he was rotting away, and it wasn't fun to watch." They could already smell the difference in the air, see dust flickering up into the air, being carried by the wind, having been stirred up by the movement of the earth. Movement that had not been that of Kaia. They both knew that much.
"Argus." Varus uttered, not quite taking back control, but not quite sitting back either.
"Argus? You think that-" Caius tried to start, ears flickering back uncertainly, suspiciously eyeing the sunlight streaming down, as if it was an illusion.
"It has to be- Who else could have done this?" Varus cut him off, their voice flickering in pitch between the two souls, one rougher, deeper, harsher, and the other softer, lighter, more gentle. It had to be Argus. But- Varus knew Gods. He knew the strength of them. He'd seen them, Caius had seen them. But he had lived with one. He had been with one, for most of his life prior.
This was... Even for a God, could Argus do this? Was Argus actually that powerful? There was still much he didn't know of the Arcane god, so perhaps they were capable of this sort of thing...
Both souls were jolted from their gaping by a figure blocking the light, and both of them focused on the red unicorn in front of them. Half of their face contorted into a small scoff, the right corner of their lip curling, while the left side of their face softened, guilt crossing it, both souls showing their emotions at once.
"Like he would let me try to leave- I'm not going to leave, Teu." Once more their voices entwined with one another, finding a balance, a harmony, the two in equal control for the time being. And then it was broken, Varus pulling forward, taking back control without much difficulty, leaving Caius grumbling but falling back without much fuss. He couldn't do much else, after all.
Stepping forward, Varus moved to Teu, gently pressing his nose to his cheek. "I'm not going to leave..." He whispered softly.

Mateusz "I can feel my enemy begin to fear my drum I am ready when it comes to pain, I'm numb I can tell you things you won't believe I've done I kill to feel alive."
Teu froze, listening and watching as the voices mixed, altering, changing. Changing. He leaned his cheek against the other, another breath passing him before he withdrew. "It was Digend." He straightened, looking back outside now. He could see others wandering outside, staring, gawking at the sight before them.
He didn't like it. The caves were comfortable, different. They reminded him of Digend and was assured by her presence, even though she was never really there. The unicorn's tail shifted hesitantly.
"Digend, the god of change. Only she could move Argus to do this," he mumbled. He didn't want to leave the house, didn't want to admit that when he stepped out he would be greeted by clouds and fields of grass instead of crystals and a roaring waterfall.
Things were too quiet. Teu could feel the shock ebbing its way into his system, and suddenly he was numbed. The only thing keeping him from collapsing was Caivarus, both of them standing just a few inches away.
"You've been here, haven't you?" he asked, though his voice was flat, hesitant. Careful. "This is where you died, isn't it?" Teu looked at them fully now, not really entirely sure what to expect. "You looked scared."

╬ ⧖ C A I V A R U S ⧖ ╬ "I didn't care if he was a genius or a fucking idiot, he was rotting away, and it wasn't fun to watch." Varus just waited quietly, moving back to look at the other. Digend? Who was... "A god of change?" His brows furrowed. There had been no god of change, not back then. "I've never... Heard of her. Of a god representing that." He looked back towards the window, seeing equines beginning to move out into the streets, his own feet itching to go and look, to see if it was an illusion or not.
The question caught his attention, making him look back and tilt his head. "Wh... No... No..." He shook his head. "Valore... I died in Valore... In Eithne." The sunlight itself was what scared him. Having been without it for so long, he'd grown accustomed to the enclosed cave walls. They had sheltered him, kept his... Merged form safe from prying eyes.
But the question shook Caius more. It woke something in him, which made him wrench control, snapping their gaze to the windows. Had they died here? No. He hadn't. Varus hadn't. But still, the sunlight drew a sudden rolling sickness in their stomach.
"Caius-?" Varus only managed to get out one question, one word, before the other soul ripped control away from him.
Caius stumbled to the side, rushing to the door, ripping it open, the sunlight fully hitting them. Wordlessly, eyes wide, he stumbled into the street, taking in the surroundings. Crystal walls. Sterling. Plains. Grass. Endless sky.
Ash. Storms clouding the sky, generated by beating wings of wyverns. Blood staining the green grass sickly red, iron clouding the air.
"Caius?!"
He didn't hear the other soul, hear pounding, blood roaring in his ears. Rushed, sucked in breaths, chest aching, he blinked. And he saw death.
Blood, bodies, weapons, screaming.
Opening his eyes did nothing to get rid of it.
Green scales, tattered by years of warfare, blood splattering the air, flashing teeth, snarled cries of war, bones cracking under his feet.
His head was spinning, his throat was closing, he couldn't breathe, he felt like the ground was still moving under his feet. He could feel the rumble of hooves beside his own, the charges of battle, Kirins on either side of him, charging to meet the common horses of Kin.
The common horses who stood no chance. Who were slaughtered, or placed in chains. Common horses he sneered at, he scoffed at, who he trampled under foot as if they were merely dirt.
He couldn't breathe. Legs crumbling, he fell to his knees, gasping for breath, shaking. There was death all around him. He was a soldier, a warrior, and he was left with tears running down his face in the midst of battle.
"Teu! Caius is- Caius-" Varus tore through, hoarsely shouting, struggling for control for the first time since their rebirth. He couldn't get control back.

Mateusz "I can feel my enemy begin to fear my drum I am ready when it comes to pain, I'm numb I can tell you things you won't believe I've done I kill to feel alive."
He recognized this. He knew what this was, seen it in the slaves he freed, the fellow Courtesans who couldn't take the heat any longer. He had it within himself, buried away under years of debris.
"I know," he said, tone level but his expression anything but. They were beginning to collect an audience, others peering at the kirin who seemed to be completely distraught, many fearful of the creature before them. And there stood a unicorn, his head low and patient.
Teu took a step forward, seeming unafraid of how Caius was reacting. It was something familiar, something he knew how to handle. But a trained soldier with commands to kill everything and anything that wasn't like himself, Teu had pretty little experience in.
"Caius." Teu's voice was firm, almost reprimanding. "You aren't there anymore. Times have changed." Change. The thing that got them into this mess. But it was this change that Teu was looking for. Something to get through to the kirin who believed his kind were superior. To the stallion who believed he could not live in a body that did not belong to him. "Stay with me, Caius."
He took another step forward, small and with caution. He was tense, both of them were.
"You're forgiven."
