Between the war, the Oasis being taken by water bandits and now living temporarily in Alhaj, the new city, Pangolin had had a harder time falling asleep. Mordekai couldn't blame the filly. Moving around this much was hard on everyone, especially when they didn't know how long until the next move. He'd tried stories, talking about Alya and her pegasi, of the moons, of anything that came to mind. Little did it help, Pangolin still couldn't sleep. Growing more and more fussy by the minute, Mordekai finally gave in the use his newly acquired blessing. He always remembered to ask Pangolin for permission: he'd sing for her and help her fall asleep, but only if she was okay with it. He wasn't a good singer by any means, so it mostly turned into him humming random tunes, watching how his foster daughter became less fussy and her breathing more deep and even, until she eventually fell asleep. The sound of her small snores made the Screamer grin, as he slowly rose from beside her makeshift bed, to look for Eyrin.
It felt surreal. So many things had happened. War. He'd been stuck in the Oasis with Pangolin, and Eyrin had returned to him hurt. Hurt beyond repair, at least until his blessing got stronger and he may eventually heal - if he ever did heal. He wasn't exactly sure how his blessing worked, but he prayed to Alya that Eyrin's back would heal and he'd be able to run around again. For now, he was just glad that Eyrin was still alive. He loved him more than he could explain, and he looked forward to the day they'd officially be a married couple. Being engaged felt surreal too, he had been so surprised he could barely speak. As he sought out Eyrin, finding him near their bed, he walked over to him as silently as he could.
"Who knew Alya's blessing could come in handy like this?" He commented, followed by a grin. "How are your legs? Good to be resting?" While asking, Mordekai shot a glance at the wheelchair. One thing came in handy with it, it could carry a hell of a lot of things. As a result, the two had plenty of blankets and capes for them to lay on and for Pangolin to lay with. So laying down would, hopefully, be comfy enough for Eyrin.

Eyrin | Savior
Eyrin listened quietly for the hushed voices of Morekai and Pangolin, a small smile twisting his lips upward as he heard his fiancee sing. He closed his eyes, letting the sound sooth him for a moment. The calm felt strange after all that had happened. It felt fragile even, thin. Something that could break at any minute, blow away like sand on the wind. It very well could considering the bandits that had taken over the oasis. Eyrin had witnessed what they could do first hand. The memory made him feel cold and he shuddered. The smile was gone from his face, his moment of relaxation broken by the worrying thoughts.
He looked up as Mordekai entered the room, Pangolin’s lullaby apperently over. It was hard getting her too sleep lately. No doubt the bandits left an impression on her. He wondered if Zasha and Noatak too suffered from nightmares. “Are they asleep?”
As Mordekai confirmed, it had take his blessing again, not just the calm tones of his voice. Alya had had splendid timing, just the right blessing at just the right time. He pulled Mordekai closer to him, kissing his cheek. ”What would I do without you?” he said, fully meaning it. He was glad to have the stallion here beside him in these trying times. He knew he was never alone of course, his family, always there, his herd mates always there, but Mordekai was his anchor and he was grateful for the support and love his fiancee provided .
He tried shifting his hooves beneath him but it was slow and slugish, costing him a lot of energy. Excercises cost him a lot of energy and there had been but small improvements so far. He was glad for the rest indeed. The air in the room felt confining though, suddenly feeling trapped. He looked at Mord, almost pleading. ”Will you sit outside with me for a while?” he asked.

Smiling back at his fiancee, he nodded. It got easier and easier to put Pangolin to sleep, but he knew that all these changes must have been hard for her. It was hard for him too, so a foal coping with war and moving around? Surely, it'd be just as hard. He felt the floor underneath him, stone and hard, unmoving. It was a new sensation, very different from what he was used to. But it was nice too. He wasn't sure whether Eyrin wanted to go back to being a nomad, or if he wanted to stay in Alhaj and be a saviour there, possibly moving out once he was free of the wheelchair. If that was even happening at any time. He was distracted by Eyrin pulling him closer, once Mordekai had come beside him. Touching his head to Eyrin's, he didn't reply but merely smiled. He could feel Eyrin's restlessness, and he backed up, giving Eyrin some space. "Of course", he responded.
He felt a pang of guilt, upon seeing Eyrin in the wheelchair, struggling to get up and outside. What was gonna happen in the future? He couldn't offer Eyrin much help, unless it seemed he was struggling. He needed to rebuild strength, but he'd be there in a heartbeat, if Eyrin needed it. Waiting for his other half, he found some pillows and blankets and bundled it up with his teke, carrying it outside for them to sit on. While Eyrin was getting out, Mordekai spent the time placing the blankets on the sandy flooring, pillows up against the stone facade of their small house. "It's beautiful outside tonight!" He called out, looking up into the sky. He was happy they'd gotten a place where they could see the stars. He'd missed that while being in the Oasis and hadn't gotten to actually appreciate them for a while. "No matter where we end up staying, the stars will be a constant. Alya's looking out for us."

Eyrin | Saviour
“They moved outside slowly or at least Eyrin did, Mordekai buzzy laying out blankets as the bigger stallion shuffled his way over. It was still unfamiliar, moving in this way, but he was slowly getting the hang of it, getting stronger. His heart was still on the cusp between feeling sadness and acceptance, but he had family, he had friends and he had a herd that made him feel like he could take whatever the future threw at them. They were caring and they were kind and they would stand by him no matter what, Eyrin never doubted that. What did trouble him however, was his role to the herd. He had always been the caregiver and being the one at the receiving end of that attention left him ill at ease. He didn’t like the glances and looks that passed others faces, worry and concern for his wellbeing. He didn’t like the idea of being the reason others frowned. He didn’t like the scurrying hooves of those he cared for to take work of off his hands. He needed recovery and he needed rest for sure, but he needed the exercise as well. He took out a blanket out of his own saddlebag after lowering himself onto the small bed Mord had crafted, reaching out for the stallion in question to come closer so he could wrap it amongst them both. Eyes lifted skywards, breathing in deeply. “Alya and all those who have joined her this past year,” he whispered. They had lost so many. Eyes closed for a moment, praying for them. “I hope they do well beneath Alya’s wings and I hope they look onto us proudly in years to come.”

He saw Eyrin lay down, motioning for Mordekai to get closer, so the two could lay under a blanket together. Shuffling closer to Eyrin, he rested his head against the others for a moment, taking in the sight of the stars and the night sky. "I'm sure they're all looking down at us, proud of what we're doing - and will do" He was silent for a moment, looking to Eyrin. He seemed distressed in a way, uncomfortable. What was bothering him? His legs? Eyrin was a saviour, it wouldn't be much of a surprise to him, if the other had a difficult time being on the opposite end of the spectrum. Receiving rather than giving. What had happened, well, there was no changing it. Only hoping his blessing would cure him, or that he'd get used to it and figure out how to navigate with it.
"You seem troubled, my dear? It is your legs?", he asked in a soft voice, leaning away to look the stallion directly in the eyes. "We will work it out, just like we've done before. Have you spent some time thinking about what will happen next, once you've gathered your strength and are ready to work again?" He looked around the city. It had lots of potential. He'd lost Osulas, his childhood home, but Alhaj was a new start to many. To him and Eyrin too. There were hospitals, and they were working on fitting the city for living and making quarters for living and for the military. Speaking of, he wasn't sure what this would mean for him now either. The Thunderbirds, the... ancient Sandhawk too. Times were definitely changing, and he wasn't sure whether it was for better or worse yet.
