The largest temple devoted to Argus was nestled in Nariah’s Housing Quarter, granting those from the Royal Family easy access to the herds patron God. It also happened to be close to where Gemstone lived in a small, one bedroom house all by herself while her grandmother continued to make slow progress in the Hospital some dozen blocks away.
Today, like most days, Gemstone wrapped herself in her cloak and trotted off to the Temple. Though she and her grandmother had idols of their own to pray at home, it always seemed much better to actually be surrounded by other devout equines. It was also more calming not having to be all alone in the room, who wanted to be alone anyway? That is generally the easiest way to explain why she made the effort to go.
Today she decided to leave her Devil Birds, Tama and Kei, with her grandmother. Instead, she brought Chime, the same Arcane Spirit she had bonded to within this very Temple. After all, it seemed fitting to bond to an Arcane Spirit who embodied Devotion, the very emotion Gemstone was feeling when Chime bonded to her. Even better, her new blessing would eventually allow her to communicate with her new companion.
As she passed through the gates and into the entryway where the koi pond rested, Gemstone made her usual stop to see the fish. The shimmering bodies of the koi flitted beneath the surface like flicking candles, occasionally coming to the surface to lip at the water's edge. The child smiled down at the scaled bodies, her mind moving off to the healing ward, where many of Cascades followers were still diligently working to help her grandmother heal.
Shaking herself, she forced a smile and tickled some of the heads of the koi who ventured to the surface with her emerald teke. Turning away from the pond, she followed the scent of incense into the building. Although she enjoyed company, which was a big reason why she didn’t pray at home all the time, she always picked the least crowded prayer room. It seemed kinder to not try to stuff herself between other horses already deep in prayer, though she was sure most wouldn’t mind it.
She settled herself before one of the many incense bowls scattered about the room, settling herself on a vacant cushion. Today she felt like being comfortable rather than sitting on the mats, regardless of how spotless they are. A little indulging for once couldn’t hurt. Closing her eyes, she smiled and began her usual prayers.

Being a Royal had many conveniences. One of those many that were included in the package included being quite close to the largest Temple to Argus. While Magnus hadn't always considered himself to be a religious horse, things and horses changed. After the help of Casius, a priest attending at that very same temple, Magnus had found his way into the comforting gaze of Argus once again. Now, the stallion looked up to the temple quite fondly, glad that the temple was quite an easy trip away from his comfortable home in the Old District. The gentle noise of water trickling and bells chiming greeted his ears, calming him and giving him some much needed reassurance after a long work day. Now, instead of retiring to his quarters after work, Magnus would often spend his time here, praying and talking with Argus about his day. Even if he didn't have much to say, or much to ask the god, he could at the very least keep him up to date with his life. It was what he was taught was an acceptable way to talk with him, and it honestly comforted the stallion. Today, he was seeking some form of comfort and guidance after the introduction of a new familiar. It wasn't like the stallion didn't like his new companion; on the contrary, he was quite honored when this pale-colored creature entered his home. However, the stress of having to take care of a Nekomata while being thoroughly unprepared easily wore at the dark stallion. He was hoping he could find some answers with Argus, and he knew the God wouldn't really disappoint him. Visiting on a normal weekday meant that plenty of horses would be in here, also communing with their God in some way, shape or form. And that was fine. However, Magnus was a little anxious to discover, upon entry, that most of the prayer rooms were quite full. While he was normally a chatty horse, his faith with Argus was a much more personal matter. This wasn't something he wanted to share space with many over. He found a bit of solace, however, there was a room that didn't have too many lingering in there. Just his luck. There was an empty mat, and there were also a few incense bowls. Just as soon as he came the other horses in there had finished up their prayer, quietly taking their leave. Magnus politely dipped out of the way, and that left him mostly alone in the room. There was one other still there, however. An Uncut, with a striking coat. She was young, and all alone. Magnus couldn't recall the last time he'd interacted with an Uncut, at least, not one that wasn't with their parents. He wasn't going to bother her, however, settling on a prayer mat and pulling a cushion underneath him to soften his landing. Drawing his cape over himself, he glanced over at the Uncut foal once more. He didn't want to interrupt her prayers, as that would be quite rude. However, he was worried that his presence might be a nuisance. It shouldn't be, though, he finally decided. Closing his eyes, he, too, began to pray. 535 wordsPost #1

Gemstones large, round ears twitched at the sound of the group of horses that had been praying within the room filtered out of the room. She didn’t open her eyes to look or watch, but she could hear that not all of them had left. Instead, someone else was coming inside and took their place nearby. She listened to them pull over a cushion for themselves, before settling down. It was a common enough sound, one she had grown used to after all the times she had come into the temple to pray.
But something, unfortunately, did distract her.
She could hear him jingle and toll, the sound once loud in her ears, but suddenly drifting farther and farther away from her. She twitched her ear again, then once more, cracking an eye open as she caught her Arcane Spirit familiar, Chime, slowly hovering closer and closer towards the other horse in the room. The Spirit was that of Devotion, not of curiosity, though that would have been just as acceptable considering curiosity was one of Gemstones main emotions.
But seeing as this was hardly the time and place for her curious companion to distract anyone from their prayers, the exact reason why she had left her Devil Birds, Tama and Kei, behind with her grandmother, she opened her eyes and huffed in Chime’s direction. Honestly, her three familiars were going to turn her grey at the ripe young age of 14. Not that she would be that age for all that much longer though...
“Leave them alone, Chime,” she tried her hardest to whisper, voice gentle but firm enough to make the spirit hover in its place. He tinkled like a small bell, punctuating the last peal with a higher note of questioning, the wispy formations on it’s back that appeared like smoky wings flexing and curling like burning incense. Welp, that failed. It was only a matter of time before the other horse opened his eyes to see what was happening. Not that he would see Gemstone at all, all he would see was the black face and glowing yellow eyes of a bonded Arcane Spirit.

The gentle sound of chimes ringing greeted Magnus's ears as he attempted (key word) to settle into prayer. While he certainly tried to ignore it, it was hard when he could feel the distinct presence of something approaching, even if he didn't know what. After he couldn't ignore it anymore, he peeked one violet eye open to see what it was. He was greeted with something he wasn't quite expecting. A dark face, with glowing eyes peering out of it. It took a few moments to understand just what he was looking at, but then it hit him. An Arcane Spirit, of course! They were similar to the little creatures floating around the entirety of this Temple. He hadn't expected one to float so close to him, or get up in his business like that. He wasn't complaining, he supposed, though the noise was distracting and he'd hoped to be alone. The gentle voice of it's companion -- owner didn't seem like the right word -- broke him out of his momentary startling. It was enough for him to take a moment away from his focus on the spirit to the other horse in the room. 'Leave them alone,' The Uncut urged, though the companion wasn't exactly listening. Magnus could empathize. Trying to tell a mythical familiar what to do was nigh near impossible. His Nekomata was already proving to be quite the nuisance. It slept all over his important papers, took up most of the bed, and was constantly knocking things off of counters. All the time! If Magnus wasn't quick with his teke, he'd have things ruined in a matter of a heartbeat. "They're fine," Magnus insisted, albeit a bit nervously. "I know it's a bit hard to really...have them listen to you." He shuffled his hooves, finding himself at a loss of words around another. When working with other adults, sure, he could figure out what to say, but there was really nothing to gain by crafting your words around an Uncut. Especially in a place like...this. This place always seemed to find a way to dig in and break down the walls he'd so dilligently put up for himself. "I hear they can be challenging companions. I just recently bonded with a Nekomata, myself." Magnus responded, flicking his ears back as he felt himself relax a bit. He kept his tone rather low, as they were in a temple with prayer going on, but it wasn't like he couldn't chat with her. "First familiar really; do you have any others?" He inquired, tilting his head. 429 wordsTagged: Gemstone

Gemstone Breim - Umare Uncut The youth stifled a sigh when her familiar peered back at her, then returned his gaze to the other. What was it about them? She had hoped he would come back to her without any trouble, like he usually would, to rest as he did by her side, but something about this newcomer seemed to peak his curiosity. Maybe it was because they were alone within the temple now? With so many others sitting on cushions and silently praying before, Chime had listened without question, casting his eyes about the other patrons, but never once leaving her side to pester anyone else. Yes, that had to be it. In a way, she couldn't really blame him. Parts of her were always open and curious to reach out and learn about other horses in her herd. But this was a place of prayer, of solemnity, not of chatter and banter. And as a child with a familiar such as Chime, there was that much more pressure on her shoulders to stay respectful. "I apologize Sir, I think he's especially curious today." The girl smiled gently, though dipped her head to make her apology that much more sincere. Chime continued to float between the two, gently tinkling, looking between each of them. "Congratulations on your new friend! Nekomata's are wonderful companions, sometimes I get the pleasure to see the High Priests when I come here to pray. When they decide to show themselves." Gemstone laughed lightly, allowing herself to relax a bit considering the dark-pelted horse didn't appear to be angry. Maybe Chime's little interruption wasn't such a bad thing after all. So long as she remained polite. So long as Chime remained polite. "This is Chime." The girl looked to her Arcane Spirit with subtle joy in her eyes, "He is actually my third familiar. I have a mated pair of Devil Birds back home with my Grandmother. I decided to let them watch over her today while she recovers." She paused, then quickly spoke up, "Oh! I'm sorry for my rudeness!" She stood, extending her right hoof forward as she leaned down towards him, "They have seen us meet." She did not immediately rise from the bow, holding it longer than she might have normally would for those of a higher rank. "My name is Gemstone. What may I call you?" The girl slowly rose, before taking her seat once more. |

Magnus was intrigued to listen to the Uncut speak about her other familiars. A pair of mated Devil Birds, how impressive! His ears certainly pricked forward at the mention. He had seen them, a handful of times, while working in the castle. He could sometimes get a glance outside and see them in their garden. They were quite intelligent, impressive creatures. Still, he wasn't sure he would be able to handle one himself, so the fact an Uncut such as herself was able to command not one, but two, was certainly impressive. It was then, he realized, that certainly such a horse would have a Talent to match, right? "Impressive," He was starting to respectfully remark, when she was extending forward a greeting and proper courtesy. He did not know if such formalities were needed in this place of worship, so he was put in a slightly awkward position. Alas, it didn't matter. Formalities were formalities. He gave a polite bow, extending his own right hoof towards her, though did not hold it nearly as long due to the gap in rank and age between them both. "They have seen us meet," He returned the respectful greeting. "You may call me Magnus." He then added, "a Royal Overseer." However, he was not particularly keen on extending the fact he was nobility - or anyone important - inside the temple for much longer, so he decided to change the topic. "I don't mind it - Chime - being curious about me. I just did not expect to have an Arcane Spirit visiting me personally during my prayer." He laughed softly, glancing down at her. "I came here to have a few words with Argus before I head home for the day. Ah, but where are my manners - I wish your grandmother a swift recovery." Last thing he wanted to do was be uncustomarily rude. That would certainly reflect poorly on himself, and in turn, the royal family. 327Tagged: Gemstone

Gemstone Breim - Umare Uncut Gemstone dipped her head gratefully at the compliment, feeling a little heat rise to her face. It was something she was rather proud of, the fact she had not one, not two, but three mythical familiars, and all three were associated with the God of Arcane. She was well aware of the trials that came with owning a Devil Bird. When she had gone to choose one, she couldn't bear to break Tama and Kei up and insisted to the store owner to give her a chance. It definitely helped she was able to speak to them, and the trio had quickly grown to adore and respect each other. She almost wished the two Devil Birds were there now, because she was sure this stallion would have been impressed with them both as well. She smiled and craned her head when greeted her and spoke his name. It truly was nice to meet him, and she would have the honor about speaking to her Grandmother about it. Mere moments later, her eyes widened ever so slightly when Magnus mentioned his rank. He was a Royal Overseer! Certainly he knew who Yoru was, considering her dearest friend was also a Royal Overseer. She wondered if he was royalty himself, but knew that would be too brash to ask about. She sat up a little straighter, more thoughtful, just in case. In regards to Yoru, she decided if the conversation ended up going in that direction, it wouldn't hurt to ask. She was silent, but attentive, while he spoke. She glanced to Chime again at Magnus' laugh, who's jingling, although soft, was happy sounding. Gemstone supposed the Arcane Spirit was delighted about being approved of. "Chime is happy you don't mind." She smiled. "And my Grandmother will love to hear about you, I can assure you." Once more, the youth dipped her head. Yes, her grandmother would very much love to know that she was hopefully getting within the good graces of yet another Royal Overseer. "You've actually come to the Temple at the perfect time." Gemstone nodded her head, looking towards where the High Priest would often hold his sermons. "Although it is equally as peaceful with many souls within here, I find there is more magic when alone, or when there are only a few in here praying." A whimsical look crossed her features. "It's easier to pray at my own families shrine, but I feel much more whole here. I feel closer to Argus here than I have anywhere else. Except perhaps the Temple of Arcane, but that is so far away. I doubt my Grandmother would allow me to go there again, especially by myself." |

Magnus felt flattered when Gemstone mentioned her grandmother loving to hear about him. It was heartwarming to be held in a higher regard; even though he was used to it more oft than not in his day to day life. While he spoke with other peers, much of his work was dealing with numbers, orders, and speaking to traders and those providing food for the Breim herd. As she was respectful listening to him, he was respectful listening to her. While he definitely caught on to her subtle cues she was giving him the respect his rank called for, he still gave her her own respect. He would not be caught bringing shame to the royal family by being insulting to a herd member; let alone an Uncut, for crying out loud. He gave an understanding, agreeable nod at the notion that there was a bit more magic there when one was alone. He definitely felt likewise. "I find my connection to Argus is often a bit stronger when I am also mostly kept in my own company." He responded in tune. "I can feel Argus's presence much clearer here than my own shrine at home, likewise." Truth be told, he wasn't the greatest at keeping a shrine, but as Argus proved a more important role in his life he couldn't help but spend more time dedicating to him. He really had felt like the God had helped show him the way. "If you don't mind my question, have you found yourself blessed by him, perhaps?" Magnus inquired eagerly, flicking his ears forward. He did not want to necessarily flaunt his own blessing, but speaking about Argus had him feeling nostalgic and remembering the overwhelming and comforting presence of Argus when he prayed to him; and the gift he had left behind. 302Tagged: Gemstone

Gemstone Breim - Umare Uncut Gemstone nodded along with Magnus words, finding no fault in the logic. "This place was created in Argus' image, so it makes sense to feel their presence much keener here than at home." She shifted on the pillow, allowing herself to get more comfortable on the plush surface. She fell silent as she listened to him once more, her eyes sparkling at the question. She was excited to speak about her Blessing, one she used quite often. She didn't get to talk about it much, mostly because it felt disrespectful to do so when not asked about it. Of course she would jump upon the opportunity, no matter how childish it felt to her. "I don't mind the question at all!" She quickly said, smiling in such a way she hoped it would reassure him. She truly loved to be able to discuss her Blessing, as well as Blessings others had, even from other Gods and Goddesses. "I had prayed to Argus within this very temple one night...and that prayer was answered. I was granted the Blessing of Mediumship. I use it all the time, because it helps me communicate better with Chime. But it also brings me closer to the spirit world, to allow me to speak to those who have passed on." Her voice had grown soft, and she dipped her head again as if she were paying respect to even the mention of the deceased. "It is one of the best days of my life, to be given such an incredible gift." She lifted her head again, tilting her head a little. She wondered if Magnus himself had been blessed by their God. "What about you, Magnus? Has Argus bestowed upon you a Blessing as well?" Gemstone looked curious considering he asked the question, but she was also hopeful; she hoped that all of Argus' children would someday become Blessed by the God of Arcane. |
