Tenebris | Tie
The sound of a kettle screaming filled the tiny tea shop, it’s cry louder than it should’ve been. Purple teke grasped hold of the kettle’s handle and soon silence filled the air as it was shifted to a nearby, cooler counter top. Tenebris let out a tiny sigh, wondering why he was even bothering with making another batch of hot water. Business was slow today, much too slow for his liking. He chewed on his lower lip as he lifted the lid off the kettle and slowly lowered a mesh container filled with loose leaf tea into the boiling water, the first scents starting to waft into the air. There was a silver lining to his lack of customers and it came with the opportunity to try new things, find new flavor combinations that could draw in future business. As he waited for the tea to steep, he guessed it should be about four minutes before it reached its peak flavor, the unicorn tea shop owner looked out onto the streets. All walks of life passed by his shop, and he caught himself smiling. Things were so peaceful now, it was almost like living in a dream. It was as if the earthquake never happened...as if Shigure hadn’t been turned to crystal by that monster. Guilt ate at his chest, remembering how there was little he could do to help the situation. They all ran like cowards and Tenebris wished he had been given a blessing that could’ve helped the situation. He still had nightmares every now and again of the creature finding his family, doing to them what he had done to the healer. He wouldn’t know what he would do if he lost them...in any sort of form. Tenebris turned his gaze from the streets to the hallway that connected his tea shop to the rest of the Tea Tree Inn. He could hear soft murmurs from tenants, some coming or going. For a second he caught the laugh of his grandfather, probably telling a story to a tenant while he tended the still recovering garden out back. The soft whoosh of the entrance drapes of the storefront took Tenerbris’ attention and he put on a smile. “ Welcome to Stone and Leaf Tea, feel free to browse our selections of ready to brew teas, or unique tea sets made by the finest ceramists Nariah has to offer! Oh! Kano! What a pleasant surprise!”

Kano Guard of Breim
The quaint section of this particular area of Nariah was fairly quite. The soft clips and clops of nearby horses moseying to their next destination echo along the stoned streets. A few murmurs of chattering herd members who did not want to draw too much attention to themselves. Kano was everything but that. His speed was raised to a high trot, making sure to slam his hooves downwards to create a louder noise and often called out to those he knew on the streets with such enthusiasm that many horses shrank back and roll their eyes before carrying on. The stallion would only chuckle before continuing his rambunctious behavior down the street.
Would this behavior be unacceptable for a member of the Watch? Probably, but the beige horse did not have the slightest of concern. It was his day off and he much needed a break. Work had given a frustrating task that should not be taking as long as it did. He wanted to move on, to do something else, but the case was still open and as long as that case was still open - Kano would not be off the hook.
Often on his days off, Kano would be stopping by a friends home or shop and today he was doing just that. It was a brilliant idea, his good pal Tenebris would have some intelligent enhancing teas that would help him with his case or at least a tea that would help calm his nerves. He preferred the latter. Kano rounded the corner slowing his gait to a reasonable pace as he spotted one of those who were in higher rank than he was. As much as he wanted to dash down and let the wind flow through his mane, they would be sure to put him in his place and he wasn't in the mood to be ridiculed, again. Crossing the street and slipping down another alleyway, Kano arrived at his destination: Stone and Leaf Tea.
His purple teke reached out and moved the curtains aside as he stepped through. He expected there to be a bustle of guests, but to his surprise, the store was pretty much barren. His ears pricked as he heard Tenebris give off a quick description of the store before greeting him. He clicks his hoof against the ground two times, "Tenebris, you look rather dashing today. You know you don't have to rattle the same sing-song every time I come in, though it is quite pleasant. How have you been?"

Tenebris | Tie
Tenebris let out a soft laugh and bowed his head in slight embarrassment before returning Kano’s greeting with two of his own hoof taps. “ They have seen us meet. I apologize, it’s a habit now regardless of who walks in. You should see it when my grandfather comes in. He tends to say it before I can just so he doesn’t have to hear it from me! Also, thank you. You look relaxed, is it your day off?” Tenebris laughed a little louder, motioning for the stallion to come over. He pulled out two ceramic cups, placing one closer to where Kano would be on the dividing wall that separated Tenebris from his customers. “ I am trying a new brew today since it’s a...little slow as you can tell. There’s been so much going on that I wanted to make something that will not only calm anxiety and stress, not unlike a typical chamomile tea, but also give a nice energy boost. It’s...kind of hard to explain and it’s been a pain to make because you either get the calming effect or the caffeinated effect and no real in between,” he explained. The unicorn lifted the lid of the currently steeping pot, glancing down into the pot. “ Hm. I think it’s been sitting long enough. Here, try some, on the house of course!” Tenebris poured some of the tea into the cup nearest Kano and then into his own cup. Placing the teapot back down, he grasped his cup with his teke and held it close to his muzzle, letting the aroma waft into his nostrils. There were notes of lemon, chamomile, peppermint, and ginger with a base of black tea. Putting his cup down, he motioned to a side table that held additives like honey, milk that was chilling in a bowl of ice, and an assortment of spices. “ Feel free to add anything to it to help with the flavor, everyone’s palate is different.” Picking his cup up once more, Tenebris took a small, slow sip. He let the tea slide over his tongue, making sure it had been brewed to the right strength. “ Could use a little honey…” he muttered to himself, putting the cup down as the sound of the cloth door being pushed open took his attention away. “ Ah, feel free to help yourself Kano. Hello, welcome to Stone and Leaf Tea, sir! Feel free to browse-” Tenebris went off on his greeting as usual, a welcoming grin on his face to the stranger that had just come in. The stranger was a common horse, cloaked in a dark, body fitting top and bracers on their forelegs. The horse just nodded a little, without giving a proper greeting in reply and seemed more focused on the ceramic tea sets instead of wanting something to drink. Tenebris blinked, a little put off by the stranger’s lack of manners, but shrugged to himself. Breim was home to those who liked their privacy. He turned his attention away from the horse back to Kano. “ How is it?”

Kano Guard of Briem
Kano let out a small chuckle as Tenebris laughed at himself, noting that his grandfather responded similarly to how Kano was. The stallion moved forward as Tenebris went behind the counter, listening as he described this new brew. "That sounds amazing! I'm sure once you get it right, the work will pay off. Yes, It's my day off - much needed might I add." He watch curiously as the teashop owner began pouring the tea into the two ceramic cups. "Thank you" Kano took the cup, taking a deep breath - the various herbs and spices overwhelming his senses. The first sip was breathtaking, it was smooth and had fresh taste.
His attention turned slightly as another horse stepped into the shop. His ear flicked as he glanced up and down the cloaked figure, before turning his attention back to the cup of tea. When Tenebris returned, asking how the cup of tea was he promptly responded. "Superb. Marvelous, splendid. I think you have down it. I feel very calm and energetic; trust me I would know, these past few weeks have been rough."
He took another swig, "How has it been since the last time I saw you?" Kano couldn't help but glance back at the stranger, something about this horse was familiar. He just couldn't put his hoof on it.

Tenebris | Tie
Tenebris couldn’t help but watch Kano as he took his first sip, looking for the smallest changes in the stallion’s face. He looked away for just a second to eye the other customer, noticing the horse had paused at a very expensive set and was staring it down. Tenebris decided he would go over and help the stranger in a moment, right after he was done with Kano. He didn’t believe the horse would really want to buy something so valuable when there were cheaper sets that worked just as well nearby. His ears perked forward as Kano complimented the brew and he gave the guard a big grin. “ I’m so glad to know it tastes good! Oh? I’m sorry you’ve been having a tough few weeks...I think everyone from the journey might still be reeling from the event…” Tenebris trailed off not wanting to mention Shigure and causing it to trigger something. He shook his head, taking a sip from his own cup and noticed that he, too, was starting to feel a little relaxed yet awake. He might have a new strain to sell it seemed. “ Business has been slow, as usual. I feel like Breimians prefer to take their tea business to those who also provide healing services as it seems to go hoof in hoof. I should try to get my mother in the business, she used to be a healer,” Tenebris laughed again at his own inside joke, not expecting Kano to understand as he probably still didn’t know the unicorn that well. Tenebris hoped that that would change as he enjoyed Kano’s company. He didn’t have many friends since leaving school, so making new ones was a goal of his adult life as well as making his business succeed. There was the sound of something being knocked into and Tenebris blinked away from Kano to the stranger. The stranger was setting a pedestal up and promptly leaving the shop, the cloth curtain swaying behind him. “Huh...guess he didn’t want anything,” Tenebris started before realizing the pedestal was the one that held the expensive set. Shock crossed his face and Tenebris looked back to Kano. “ I think I’ve been robbed…”

Kano Guard of Breim
Kano sipped at his cup of tea as he listened to Tenebris. Even though the other horse was careful not to mention what happened to Shigure, it was quickly picked up by Kano. The poor healer, frozen in stone and they could do nothing about it. The guard was frustrated about it for days. He had tried so hard to distract the beast from the others, and it still failed. It had troubled him so that he ended up praying to Argus more feverishly. It was then he finally received his blessing so that he could be better prepared for the future.
“Yes, I do agree with that statement… I hope you have been coping better than I have.”
His sixth sense kept tabs on the other customer in the shop, a prick of worry nestling in his stomach. Something was just off about this character. Like he recognized him from somewhere but did not know when or where. It was slowly chewing at him, and Kano did his best to push it aside. This was his free time, his time to enjoy the company of Tenebris - not to be bothered by something as trivial as placing a name to a horse.
“That makes sense, and I’m sure your mother would do a wonderful job. Even without that, I’m sure once horses have met your charm, they become regular customers in no time.” He suggested with a grin. That is how Kano became one of Tenebris’s regulars. He couldn’t stay away after helping Tenebris and Riveria when the sky fell onto Nariah below. Hopefully, the two would become good friends as time went on.
A clatter of a pedestal on the ground jolted Kano out of his state of calmness. He warily turned around to see the stranger exiting after setting a stand back up. He quickly realized just as Tenebris noted that he was robbed. Everything began to click. This was the horse match the description of the thief that was making its way through the city. His case! He couldn’t believe it that he was in the room when it happened and let the thief getaway. Kano promptly set down his cup of tea. Dashing out of the shop while ordering, “Come on! We need to catch them” He will be damned if he didn’t catch the criminal. Post #: 3 Word Count: 400
