Calleigh had faced her fair share of threats in her days as a farmer but none so much as mountain bears. They would take and take and there was nothing anyone could do to stop them... with a huff she examined the grim scene before her. One of her older cows daisy had been taken down by something big, something really big. The red head frowned as she stepped around the corpse, nudging the cows ear gently in a small show of respect. Daisy was the second cow taken down in just one night and now the herd was terrified to move down into the fields She huffed quietly and shook her head, she moved over towards the herd with slow steps, clicking to them softly as she passed the second cow corpse. Deep gashes marred it's hide, it's eyes bulging out of its skill. Pure terror is what that poor cow had felt and Calleigh couldn't have done anything to save it. She frowned and flicked her ears, drawing up a long thin stick from the mud as she moved up the pasture. "Come on ladies" she called out softly, picking up her pace to a slow jog. She shifted her gait slightly and headed to the left side of the herd in hopes they'd move... but she had to stop a couple metres away when they wouldn't budge That was odd... they had never not moved before. With a tilt of her head she used her teke to whip the stick, mocking a whip noise and side stepping a little as she clicked her tongue. Those stubborn cows just stood there huddled together as thunder clapped overhead... She let out a low sigh... She already knew she was going to be scrubbing her feathers off, what's a massive storm anyway?, it's not like she already had to comb the knots from her hair after the last storm "Oi!" she shouted at them stomping her hooves. With a small smile she was pleased they started to move, even if it was along the fence, it was still progress. That was until her bull froze and brought the herd racing back towards her... She barely got out of the way of his horns as he charged past. She hissed under her breath as a stinging pain radiated off her neck. Great gored. Again. She huffed under her breath and stomped forward but before she could get more then afew steps a loud growl resounded behind her With quick step she spun around and backed up a bit, ears pinned as she faced the threat before her. A bear. Of course if had to be a bear... She narrowed her eyes at it and swished her tail, whipping her stick through the air as it reared up on its hind legs and lashed out at her with it's claws. "Come on ugly! I'm not afraid of you or your silly growling face!". As it's claws came down across her shoulder she smacked it with the stick, skipping back afew steps as the panicked moos of her cows reached her ears. Crap. Now what

It felt good to be home. Curtis couldn't help but sing to himself as he clambered up the rocky slope, grunting as he shifted his weight away from his prosthetic. The damn thing was no good in the snowy, rock-filled lands of Onea, but he couldn't let go of his childhood home completely. Besides, he'd worked hard to keep up good terms with the War-Forged herd, and considered them family, even if his own direct relatives had died a couple of years back. This was the land he'd grown up in, and he wasn't about to turn his back on it just because a couple of rocks got in his way.
It did cross his mind, however, that if he'd not been such a foolish child, he wouldn't be scrambling up the side of a mountain to get to open field land right now. He'd still be at home, still be a part of his herd. But...despite how much he hated his disability, it had freed him to follow his dreams of becoming a traveling singer. The very thought of getting to be himself brought a smile to the stallion's lips, and a bigger spring to his lopsided step.
A moment later, however, his good feeling would be crushed. As he made his way up over the rise, Curtis's eyes fell upon a gruesome scene. There was a dead cow, sliced open and laid out on the ground before him. With a disgusted noise, Curtis side-stepped just in time to avoid spattering gore all over himself. Looking up, he let his gaze rove across the landscape before him. His one-eyed gaze widened as he stared at the scene unfolding before him. The cow's herder, he assumed, was fighting against a lumbering bear, clearly the animal responsible for the attack.
"HEY, UGLY," Curtis yelled, charging forward as quickly as his faux limb would allow. "Why don't you pick on someone your own size?" he yelled, sliding to a stop before the huge creature, and rearing up on his hind legs, flashing his forehooves out towards the enormous beast.

A herders job was to feed and protect their herd, unluckily enough for Calleigh that meant facing a five hundred pound bear with nothing but a small pointy stick. She prayed to Kaia's green earth she had the strength to survive this because if she didn't she was sure to join the gods very soon. The mare pinned her ears and stepped back a bit, teeth grit in a growl as hot blood trickled down her leg. She was preparing herself to charge forward in a brave attempt to scare him off but before she could a random stranger appeared before her. With a snort she skipped sideways, prancing across to the side so she could see the stranger. His pelt was a gold as the sun and his hair billowed out behind him as the storms wind picked up, "Are you stupid and foolish man!" she called out, stomping her hooves as the metallic flash of his prosthetic caught her eye. What was he even thinking!?. "Move out of the way! Don't let yourself die on my account". She half reared and bounded forward, coming up beside him with a heavy kick to the air. She danced a moment in place before rearing up, coping his moves as she angrily lashed at the air It was a stupid idea really but with two on one it seemed like it was more of a fair fight... even if one of them was a five hundred pound bear. The startled moo of one of her cows dragged her attention away, pulling her eyes back as her herd tried to move back. That was the moment the bear had needed. He dropped to all fours and charged at them, mouth wide open as he lumbered towards them threateningly. Calleigh snorted and threw her head back, a crack of lightening overhead illuminating the whole scene. At that same moment it began to pour rain making the ground wet and slick with mug

Helping was in his nature. Stupidity was also. As he came to a halt, rearing up before the giant bear, Curtis realized just how big the animal was. His eyes widened, but he felt as though he had to put on a brave face to keep the mare beside him from thinking less of him. He'd charged in guns blazing, and it was time to keep up with that facade. With a snort and whinny, he reared up again, lashing out in front of him, though his hooves missed, striking nothing but air. Between a prosthetic-wearing drug addict, and a mare with a stick, Curtis was afraid they weren't going to make it out of this encounter with their bodies in tact.
The comment about being a stupid man still rankled, though. Especially coming from a mare, and a herder at that.
"At least I'm not stupid enough to picket my cows in the middle of a bear's hunting grounds," retorted the stallion through gritted teeth as he skittered backwards. As he spoke, the heavens opened up, and a deluge broke down upon them, slicking the ground within seconds. Curtis could feel his feet slipping in the mud, and he cursed with everything he had in him as he struggled to keep himself upright. His balance was already bad, his entire left side was a blind spot, and now this? They were definitely going to die.
As the bear lumbered forward, Curtis moved backwards, pinning his ears as he tried not to slip and fall. If either one of them went down, they would be done for for sure.
"Any brilliant ideas about how to get rid of this thing???" he inquired urgently. Seeing as he had no Blessings of his own, he was at a bit of a loss. But...he did have the ability to mimic other equines....could that help him keep his hide in tact? It helped him skate from land to land without discovery of his Vagabond status...but a bear and a horse were two different animals.

Calleigh hissed as the bear roared at them again, bristling with fury at being inturupted during snack time. This wasn't what was supposed to happen, she was just supposed to move her cows to a higher pasture. How was she supposed to know a bear would wanted down in here and attack!. She whipped the air with her stick as the bear dropped to all fours, it's mouth wide open as her companion reared and lashed his hooves at it, was that even going to work!? It seemed like the stupidest endeavour out there but honestly? It's really all they had "Hey!" she snapped at him, shooting him an irritating glare with pinned ears, "My cows were here long before this big old bear!. Stupid!. The bear only just moved-" she was cut off as the bear charged forward, it's lumbering steps too fast for either of them to really react properly. The bear slashed its claws and teeth at Curtis before slamming all it's weight into Calleigh's chest. The red head cried out in pain and shock as she was thrown on her back with legs hanging in the air The brown beast pressed all it's weight against her, lashing out with tooth and claw for it's next meal. Calleigh's teke was barely able to hold his back with the help of her hooves, head turned awkwardly as claws inflicted tiny cuts along her throat. "Damn you stupid beast! Why don't you go eat dear like the rest of them!". She kicked her back legs with all her might, smacking him across the head with her stick as she did. She could have been at home by the fire, sipping tea with her mother but nooo here she was fighting off a bear attack! With a barely available stallion helping... there was no way they were getting out unscathed

The stallion cried out as the bear's claws rended through his flesh, leaving a row of bright red, bloody marks across his chest. The pain was both immediate and searing, and he couldn't help but let out a string of curses that would make an Onean circle member blush. Calleigh seemed to be doing better than him, having only a few superficial marks upon herself. She seemed to be happy enough to smack the bear over the head with her stick, while kicking out at him with her back hooves. Shaking his head to clear it of the painful fog that filled his head, he pushed forward again, ignoring the pain in his chest, and the heat from his own blood that ran down his chest. "Won't you get the hell out?" he snarled, as he used his teke to pick up a rock, and hurl it as hard as he could towards the bear's skull. WC: 156
