One war ends, another begins. At least, that's how it seemed to be in Moonrise's experience recently. Where once she was being commissioned to make weapons and armor for going to war in the desert, those payments changed to be making those same items for fighting on home turf. Against the very beings that their god had created centuries ago.
The fact that they had come for the modern Aodhians was no longer a surprise, of course, not after being shown that old text showing the true events of the gods war. But still, she wished that they could go back to the simpler times again, when the most they had to worry about was a vindicator attack to free slaves. But it was best to not try and dwell on such things now. Today her adopted family (minus a certain kirin and her children) were spending time together at the marketplace. The youngest child of the family, Kimiko, affectionately nicknamed Mop, was riding on the draft horse's back as the family perused the merchant stalls.
Earlier she'd briefly split off from the others to go chat with some metal merchants near the blacksmith stalls about new deals for raw material, accompanied by Cin, the baby kirin who was really way to invested in the idea of getting his tiny hooves on a weapon. (or swooshy, as he liked to call them) She'd managed to corral him long enough to return the three of them back to the rest of the group with a promise that when he was big enough she'd make him his own swooshy. (which was met with a resounding "I'm ready now!") Hopefully the fact that her pseudodragon was currently occupied with nibbling a cookie on Cin's back that Kimiko had dropped onto Cin's head a few moments earlier would keep his attention. Though if she was being honest, it probably wouldn't.
Moonrise stopped at a food stall, examining the offered items with interest for a few moments before turning back towards the others. Her sword tapped against her hind leg in its scabbard as it bounced with her gait. She'd started carrying it on her person when she went out in public ever since the threat of the reborn kirin was made known, it didn't hurt to be armed in this day and age. Even her father, in his retirement, had taken to doing light practice in the yard of his home to keep his old chevalier skills sharp. "Anyone finding anything interesting?" She asked the family, eyes glancing to a few more stalls. Today seemed like it would be a peaceful one, or at least as peaceful as one could be given the times.
And for that, she was grateful.

The hybrid mare couldn't relax. Even as Moonrise so graciously took her son on a small expedition to find raw materials for her blacksmithing, Asalah couldn't really settle down and feel comfortable in the markets. She felt restless and uneasy, unable to really feel as if she was fully safe.
However, this wasn't like other outings where there wasn't a reason to be fearful. She was anxious because of the looming threat of disaster upon the horizon. How could she feel at home when Kirins were inevitably going to arrive in Valore and destroy everything that she held so close?
It was a hard question to ask herself, and an even harder one to recognize as a true threat. If things had been different the last time she had left town, maybe she'd feel at ease... but in this case?
No. There was no ease. She had watched the kirins murder a child in cold blood, and as she watched her two sons join up again after Cin's little excursion, Asalah couldn't help but feel fear squeeze at her insides. The past few months had been difficult... more than difficult really, and even with the small pendant that sat on her neck, she couldn't help but feel as if she was nothing but a tiny speck in the ocean of life.
Cascade, Ignacio, give me strength. She silently pleaded, her gaze turning to the carts in the market making their way through the streets. Thoughts of the big picture aren't important. I need to focus on my own.
Harsh words, but they were true. Cascade had chided her for being so worried about protecting everybody, but Asalah couldn't ignore it. It was in her nature to worry and protect. All she wanted to do was make a difference... and protect the city and those that she cared about.
Moonrise's question brought her out of the trance she had fallen into, her eyes looking about at the few bags of goods she had purchased. "I found a few new items for decorating the Casino, but otherwise it's just been normal food shopping. I figured when we got home I could make one of my pies." She tried to sound chipper, and felt that in some ways she was getting better at lying through her teeth about her concerns. The older members of the family already knew the mental backlash Asalah was dealing with, there was no reason to drag the children into it as well.
"What about you, Rita? I saw you looking at some items earlier... did anything catch your eye?" 1 | 430

Cielo;Aodh | Commoner Oh what a way to live, let the fear take all control.
It was an astounding sight, all these citizens wearing a mask of obliged normalcy. The show has to go one appeared to be the inner mantra of most Aodhians, or at least there was no other way to explain how they managed to complain loudly about the sudden price increase on Talorian imports or how scandalous it is that their favorite wine is already sold out again that early in the morning, while the continuing threat of the kirins loomed over the city like a bird of doom.
Ah well the kirins...Involuntarily he ducked his head a little at the thought of them, as if he could hide his own antlers and scales that way. Months had passed since his sudden transformation into a hybrid but he still wasn't quiet used to the additional weight. Back then he had been confused, but also proud of his new appearance. Nothing on this world was closer to their god than the kirins. Unfortunately it wasn't long until the admiration of those around him, as well as his own pride, turned more and more into suspicion and even horror at the sight of his scales. Now the term kirin caused unease instead of buzz.
Nervously he tucked his leathery wings carefully at his sides while his eyes scanned the different market stalls in passing by. He had seldomly left the Dream Den lately, but today he had suddenly thought that visiting the market would be a most welcome distraction. The café could use some new decoration and the market was the best place to find these strange but interesting items.

Kimiko | Commoner Post 1 | WC 274 They were not riding. They were flying. Kimiko was an ancient kinkin, and Moonrise was their dragon. (Not that it was important, but the dragon’s name would have been Sooty. You know, if it was real.)
But play-pretend aside, Mop was in a wonderful mood. It was nice to be outside with the whole family, and having both Mama and Cin and Pel and two of the best aunts in the world made Kimiko so happy that they could feel the happiness getting all bubbly inside! Now if only Anty Ev were here. Maybe that’s why they were outside, right now? Were they all looking for Anty Ev? Struck by that thought, Kimiko craned their neck to peek on either side of Moonrise’s back to see if they could catch a glimpse of Evalynn and her own foals (Kimiko was also eager to find out where their other cousins were hiding) but to no avail. They sighed a little as their ears wavered back, but giggled as their rabbit, Fuzz, stretched up from his cozy spot between Kimiko’s forelegs to sniff at their muzzle. They hugged the little bunny closer to them and pondered over how he could fit into their pretend game… Oh! Maybe Fuzz could be a Furia… They glanced at Mama with a smile as Anty Moon and Anty Az chattered. It was nice to do fun things with Mama, again. Kimiko could tell that she had been worried, lately, the way grown-ups sometimes got. Maybe now she could be happy, again, for real. Not just happy for a little bit, but so happy that the happiness stayed for a while. "Mama. Mama, Moon's a dragin."

Airita Commoner 471 words | Post I
Airita originally hadn't been keen on the idea, but eventually caved. Perhaps it would be for the best, trying to forget it for a change. Even though the skies were always a little grey from the smoke most of the time. Even though a fair number of horses carried weapons with them. Airita had been given a knife and kicked out of the house by The Boyfriend™, who claimed she was too serious these days and Kimiko was starting to pick up on it. It's not that Airita disagreed with him, it was just hard to forget Ignacio's words. They (and him) had indeed been responsible for the God's War. He loved them, all of them, but couldn't act against Soleil. Airita understood she needed to forge her own path, and maybe that meant Aodh had to make a stand themselves, but if he loved them, how could he let both factions that were his children destroy each other? ... Maybe that's why she was a mortal and not a star. Still, Airita made a deal with herself, that she would actually relax today. Just enjoy a day out with her sister, Moonrise, and the children. She wished Evalynn could have come too. Rita amused herself by watching Kimiko on Moon's back, feeding cookies to her friend's dragon (It had scared her at first, her still very small child next to a firebreathing lizard, but she trusted Moonrise. Besides, that thing was lazier than a cat. It'd be fine. She hoped.) until Asalah caught her eye. " Outside of a few ideas for the casino as well, and maybe a plushie or two, nah, not really." She grinned at her sister. " Though I think Pel has something in mind." She pointed with her head to the simple, very small familiar shop her nephew had been eyeing. It wasn't very big, but the shopkeeper looked like a kind old hippocampus, so it should hopefully be a decent place with cared for animals. Truth to be told, she hadn't been focusing much on the shops, so she left Asalah to Pel'ciri and quickly perused a simple ribbon stand close by them, returning with a pretty bow when Kimiko called. " She's the strongest dragon around, be careful!" She laughed, unable to resist the warmth that washed over her whenever Kimiko was around. Perhaps she had been too young to have a child, but Airita wouldn't ever go back to a time without her foal. She raised the bow for Mop to see. " What do you think of this one, baby?" Rita asked her daughter. " We could do your hair like mine if you want." She had been using a very elaborate braid today, not really in the mood for her cascade of hair to be flowing so freely. Maybe I should cut a few inches off...

Pel'ciri Commoner (baby) 643 words | Post I
It was so weird, even after a few months. Pel'ciri was still getting used to it- the light reflecting on his scales, the way his tail would flick subconsciously, and how fire didn't bother him. He still flinched whenever Cin threw him into Aunty Ev's forge when it was lit. And he still dreamed of that night, when Iggdad appeared before him and taken his ragged, burned off drawing. He had been so much, the feel of him so much, that Pel could still feel the warmth of the giant kirin coursing through him. It was good but it also burned so hot but it hadn't hurt him. He had felt as if a tiny piece of a star had been stuck inside him. The experience had been amazing... But also so overwhelming, Pel had became rather withdrawn as he adjusted to his new reality. Except of course when Cin got a rise out of him, which was pretty often, he'd admit. It was still hard to just. Be normal. When Pel very much wasn't. Even now, when Kirins had become an unusual but not surprising thing (a lot of people were scared of them actually), Pel still got a few looks when he went out on the streets. When Cin left him to go play with Aunty Moony and Mop, Pel'ciri's posture had assumed his new default look: ears slightly pinned back, tail semi-tucked between his legs, head down. He knew mama had been a little worried about him and he wished she didn't. He would be okay. It was just a bit.. Too much. He was walking by her side, when they stopped to check a store. Pel scanned his surroundings, wondering if there'd be anything cool around - maybe a cloak - when he noticed the tiny, but clean, familiar shop looking a little out of place next to all the shops selling shinies and ribbons and stuff. He trotted closer, and the owner- an old-looking hippocampus who smelled like the sea- smiled at him. He curiously checked the animals around. There were a few cats, some dogs, lots of birds, and he even spotted a longtooth cub sleeping in a corner. Not a lot of Cool animals, Cin would have been bored (except maybe for the longtooth cub, but Pel didn't want to risk waking it up so it was probably for the best that Cin wasn't here). When he turned around to leave, a thud caught his attention. A decent sized bunny had hopped on a cage next to him, and was eyeing the kirin curiously, nose twitching. Pel tilted his head, noting its curious pelt: white with black splotches. In a flash of inspiration, he grinned and focused. A tiny bright spot appeared between horse and bunny, flickering slightly. Pel'ciri struggled to make it move to the bunny, wondering what its reaction would be, but it only floated around him lazily. He sighed, but still liked it. Maybe he couldn't make fire come out of his hooves like Cin, but the warm light was comforting. To his surprise, the bunny followed the light with its head, and hopped closer to investigate. Pel laughed and reached down to stroke it with his teke. The bunny hesitated, but relaxed under his touch. When the old hippocampus cleared his throat, Pel'ciri thought he would be in trouble, but he only smiled and pointed to his family, who had begun walking away. With an apologetic smile (but without talking), Pel gave the bunny a final, grudging pet, and raced back to mama. Cin was there, and the blue-and-gold kirin didn't want to catch any more attention from the grown-ups (thanks, aunty Rita) or get in trouble. " Hey Cin!" He grinned, finding himself more relaxed than in a while. Even the small floating light was brighter now. " Did you get your swooshy this time?"

Brigid | Merchant
Brigid had taken a day off from her work to wander through the marketplace. Ever since she had been sent off to help that town with a chevalier and ragtag group, her mind had been filled with worries. She couldn't stop the thoughts as she walked down the road absentmindedly. She was unable to focus on anything she was walking past. There were some friendly sellers trying to get her attention, but she failed to notice them.
It was only as the mare ran into a very large group walking on the road that her attention shifted. There were two very young kirins in front of her. She couldn't help but smile at them. They seemed to be sweet, innocent little things, not the monsters she'd faced once before. It was a nice sight to see that they weren't hiding in their homes to avoid the stares of others. Brigid hadn't realized just how close she had gotten to the group and stumbled into a spotted mare. "Ah! Excuse me, I'm very sorry. I clearly don't have my head on straight today," she quickly apologized.

Alarik | Merchant The day had already felt long in the stallion's eyes. Things had to be done for and around the shop. With Raynon now retired everything fell on the young stallion. Commencing the end of the war, The old chevalier and then merchant decided he had, had his fair share of work and was perhaps his time to quiet down. Leaving the shop in Alariks hooves. The old man still owned the shop but seeing how everything went so well while he was away. Ray felt he could trust Alarik to manage and take care of the business without him. Alarik had been under Ray's "wings" for years now and he guessed the old man's training had served him well. He wasn’t alone thankfully. Ray had left Mosaic. A slightly younger servile slave to assist Alarik with the shop and things that need to be tended to. Alarik couldn’t afford such lavish things otherwise. The two had gotten along well, to say the least. The chestnut stallion walked the market, after picking up a crate or two of new stock for the shop. The cart was heavy and perhaps just a little too close to the max weight Alarik could pull. But he put his head down and got on with it. After all, who else would do it. Over the past month, he had slowly begun to get stronger. Pulling just over half his weight in weapons and armor more than twice a week. He could feel the slight tension in the air. There was no doubt about it. Like two figurative equines pulling a rope. Both equal on each end but only time would dictate before the rope snapped. It had been there for a while now and the young stallion had tried to push it to the back of his head. Like most things these days. Three months ago he was in the middle of a swamp trying to help more Aodhians. Instead, they drugged the caravan and were going to kill them if it hadn’t been for one of them having somewhat of a conscience. Alarik neared the shop. Feeling beads of sweat begin to collect over his face and around his harness. He could hear children off to his left. Glancing across he could see familiar faces. That of Arita and her sister. Cin’ciri|Aodh|Commoner
Cin’ciri practically marched along side his Aunt Moon and baby Kimiko. It was his sworn duty to protect them as the future Commander of the Chevaliers that he totally was. There was entirely no other ideal or central motivation that was running through the marshmallow kirin’s mind as he obediently followed along side his blacksmith aunt, absolutely none at all.
“I’m completely old enough for a swooshy, Auntie Moon. I needs one to be a Chevalier!” The kirin child debated with the older equine after the far to many times that she turned his completely logical request for a weapon, even having the audacity to come up with the “compromise” that her and Aunt Ev would just make him one when he was old enough. How was he, Cin’ciri, child of Ignacio and born welder of his flames, supposed to be Aodh’s greatest protector if he couldn’t even get a single swooshy? It was unheard of.
Cin continued walking alongside the duo, as Kimiko unknowingly sprinkled some of her snack onto the top of Cin’s head. The small dragon plopped happily in between Cin’s antler nubs, munching contently on the dropped crumbs. Cin felt the shift in weight and almost immediately straightened, as the child’s imagination did as only a child’s imagination can do. Suddenly the marketplace was a great battlefield, and on one side were all those that oppose Aodh and her people. On his side though, Cin’ciri was at the head, the mighty forces of Aodh at his back, challenging all who were against Ignacio and those who followed the false Ignacio, wanting the destruction of His great homeland and people. Cin’ciri and his mighty and massive antlers, cast ablaze by the blessing Ignacio granted him at birth was only overshadowed by the massive wyvern at his side, just as challenging as he was. Nothing could distract him in this moment of triumph. Absolutely nothing!
“Hey Cin! Did you get your swooshy this time?”
And just like that, the image was broken, as his twin bounced up next to him. Cin gave a tiny snort and a flicker of his tail sending embers towards the ground around them. “No, Aunt Moon says I’m not old enough, which is completely lu-lucy- uhhhh ludy-crest.” Cin told Pel, a smug smile crossing his face as he spouted out the large word that he had once heard Aunt Ev tell Mama over... something. “After all, I’ve been practicing all the time with Mister Omar on how to be the bestest Chevalier in ever!”

OMARI He found himself picking absently at his saddlebag, seeing but not looking as he stood before his usual stockist. Everything felt so strange, and yet it seemed as if nothing had happened. As if there had been no war, no threat of kirins. How could everyone be acting so normal? Looking at them, maybe they didn't. The nervousness in their steps, and smiles that didn't reach their eyes. At least for those that understood the gravity of it all. He missed Jenko and his stupid grin. Sighing quietly, he moved away from the vendor with a small nod. Throwing shards at pretty things wouldn't fix anything.
As he wove through the crowd, a familiar dark figure caught his eye. Moonrise? He'd been seeing an awful lot of her lately, it felt like. Looked like she was out with her family, too. It'd be nice to catch up with her, if only for a short chat. Didn't want to interrupt her family outing after all. Reaching her, he dipped his head in greeting. "Nice to see you again, Moonrise. Nice day to be out."

Chip Hungry boi, feed him! ......
Hard eyes flitted from equine to equine perusing the market place, searching for a suitable target. Someone who's attention was elsewhere, a loose shard pouch, an overflowing food basket, maybe a run away apple bouncing across the street. Chip's stomach gave a resounding growl at the thought of food and made the pegasus snort with irritation. He was no stranger to hunger but the same blanket of tension that swaddled all of Aodh greatly impacted his lifestyle. Everyone was on edge and alert, making it suuuuuuper difficult to pilfer anything and his Ratling gang was moaning with hunger. To keep them from deserting him, Chip had to dig into his personal food reserve, a memory that made his tattered wings ruffle, shedding a sad looking down.
They'd gone through hardship before and they could do it again, but admittedly it was a little different this time... Alright a lot different. Angry kirins on the horizon, eager to burn all that weren't equipped with gleaming scales and horns, or so the word went. But those were worries for another day, as his immediate task was to get food. For Chip first, of course, then the fat rat with his fake gold jewelry, snoozing away in his mane, and any leftovers he'd bring back to the little ones.
His stomach spoke again, practically rattling his exposed ribs while Chip put his very best 'sad puppy face' on, tears on the ready, misting up his eyes. He stepped free of the corner he'd been observing from, walking with a bit of a limp, looking absolutely wrung out and hopefully making some soft hearts bleed. Playing the sad, starving child was not his favorite bit, but it paid off most of the time.
"Please, " he croaked at random strangers, "spare some food? Just a crust of bread? " He dodged away from angry words, blinking and sniffling, looking for another victim. "An old apple perhaps? I'm not picky! Maybe, maybe some trampled cabbage? " he aimed at a booth, only to be send running with the swish of a broom. Hrmph! Well, he wasn't going to give up, making his way through the crowd with his eyes turned as huge as possible, his words sad and pleading, and always on guard for the arrival of Chevaliers.

Kimiko | Commoner Post 2 | WC 187
Kimiko tilted their head at the pretty bow, marveling over its glittery fabric and soft pink shade—it was just like their special middle eye! But when Airita asked them if they wanted to put their hair up like hers, the little kindling’s gaze drifted down to Fuzz. Thinking. “… Mm… you have it, Mama. Don’t feel like bows…”
They stroked Fuzz’s head with their teke before looking back up at Rita, ears perking up. “What about candy, Mama?” Kimiko may not want to wear any bows, but they always felt for candy and sweet things, so if there was any around they’d love some of that! They blinked as another horse bumped into their Mama, and smiled with approval when she apologized. That meant she must be super nice and polite. But as more equines began to approach, the foal’s talkative streak instinctively started to wane. They lowered their head and stared up curiously at the stallion now saying hello to Anty Moon, wondering what he wanted to say to her and if it might be somehow important. Maybe… he’d seen Anty Ev and the cousins?

Asalah had expected that response. Quietly, she took tally of the items she had purchased while taking note that they were no longer the only family spending their day at the market, or well, they were still the only family out and about. There were just more horses now joining them.
She took note as one of the others nearly ran straight into Airita, upsetting some of the items she had been carrying for a moment before things settled back. The mare smiled, though another noise caught her attention. Slowly, she turned towards the sound of brooms clattering and a young colt fleeing to escape them. She could've swore she had heard him complaining about not having food as well before the brooms had attacked, but she wasn't sure.
Without a word she broke from the rest of the family, nearly bumping into another hybrid as she did so. "O-oh! Sorry, I should really watch where I'm going." She apologized, feeling her face flush a little as she moved around Cielo, though she had never met this particular hybrid. There was a brief moment where Asalah wondered if it would be wise to say anything further, but she was more concerned for the colt. "Excuse me." She dipped her head and continued on, pushing through the crowd until she reached Chip.
"Did somebody say they were hungry?" She asked, not unkindly as she pulled an apple out of her scarf. 2 | 240

Chip Hungry boi, feed him! ......
The scruffy looking child's mismatching eyes went as HUGE as teacups when they caught sight of that shining apple being presented. From somewhere in his messy mane, The Rat King poked out his tired head, fake crown lost for the moment in the tangle of hair, blinking blearily but summoned all the same by the possibility of food. Chip's posture changed in an instant from slinking to excited child (years of nourishment made him look quite a lot younger than his actual age, 17) but he deflated just as quickly, looking to the stranger like a child that had been tricked before.
Chip's body went stiff, ready to bolt at a moments notice, wings tucked tightly to his sides so they wouldn't catch on anything. His eyes kept darting from the apple to Asalah and taking in the mare's appearance, he did truly debate whether or not he'd be better off running. Enter his growling stomach, and Chip decided he'd take the gamble.
"Y-yes ma'am, " he replied softly, shrinking back a few steps while pushing The Rat King back down with his teke. The rodent was happy enough to resume his nap, certain that he would get his fair share of food in the end. "That is, only if you have enough to share... " he added, looking away sheepishly, giving the impression that he hated being a burden on others. Blue-and-green eyes blinked back a slow build of tears and flitted back to the apple.

Cielo;Aodh | Commoner Oh what a way to live, let the fear take all control.
Completely focused on the strange but interesting knick-knacks sold at a little shop before him the hybrid completely missed that someone came near him. Just a moment later he was already jostled by a large mare and bumped with his antlers against the stall.
"My apologies" he mumbled hasty to the slightly alarmed shop keeper and quickly made a few steps back to avoid any more trouble. It didn't took him long to spot the mare again among the colorful crowd. She was walking towards a shaggy little pegasus kid whose pitiful whining was audible across the whole market place. For a moment he hesitated, then started to walk over to them as well. Like many Aodhians, Cielo viewed beggars as thorns in the side, even tho he blamed the government for the many homeless children without prospects.
"Careful kid, you might want to lower your voice a little. The Chevaliers are...let's call it a little stressed at the moment and might overreact if you attract their attention" he said neutrally and gave a more friendly nod to Asalah before he pulled a little pouch filled with berries out of his saddle bag. "Here, I can spare them if you want them."

The mare paused as the hybrid she had ran into joined them, her fur suddenly feeling hot with embarrassment as she thought about how she had caused his horns to hit the top of one of the booths. She whispered a soft apology before turning back towards the child.
"I have plenty of apples in my cart. I won't miss one of them." She added, taking note that the poor child was heavily malnourished, and was probably older than what she had initially thought. Quietly, she handed the apple over, hoping that the child wouldn't think she was trying to con him into anything.
Unlike most of Aodh, Asalah was under the belief that class wasn't everything. It didn't matter how poor or rich you were, the children of the herd needed to be cared for and fed. Maybe it was from her teenage years, when she had worked with the orphanage in Aodh, or maybe it was from her childhood in Talori... but she wasn't okay with just letting kids run around in the streets without being cared for.
Chevaliers... right. The last thing she wanted to do was cause a scene with them as well. Turning to her new acquaintances, she smiled easily. "The name's Asalah, it's a pleasure to meet the both of you." Quietly, she eyed her sister's cart, now a short ways across the marketplace, wondering if the rest of her family would try to join in on her shenanigans. 3 | 247

Airita paused, thinking. It wasn't the first time Kimiko had rejected some sort of girly thing. She flashed back to the day her foal was born. She had been so exhausted, but it was hard to keep her eyes off her. She told Evalynn about it, and her sister had smiled, clearly understanding what it felt like. You know, she might not want to be a she, Ev had said. Airita had tilted her head, then nodded silently. The whole exchange had stayed on her mind ever since. She'd even tried to offer Kimiko some of Cin's and Pel's things, perhaps she liked those better? But still, the filly had shown no particular interest in them. In fact, she seemed just as apathetic about it as the more girly items. So she had tested her theory, multiple times. Kimiko seemed pretty certain about it tho. A slow, gentle smile spread across her face as she took a shaky breath. It's okay. I'm okay. I can do this. " Candy sounds fantastic, baby." They'd be fine too. She'd make sure of it. As she turned to scan the stalls in search of the much requested candy (Asalah was gonna kill her for stuffing the kid with sweets), a familiar face caught her eye. " Oi! Alarik!" Airita smiled, gesturing with her head for him to come closer. Speaking of Asalah though, where was she? Small pricks of anxiety made her belly a little nauseous. It had been like that since the news of Soleil's army. It took her a moment to notice her, with what looked very much like a street urchin on her heels, and a kirin... With wings... By her side. Airita blinked. They were uh, really pretty. She shook her head, chasing the thought out of her mind. She was in a happy relationship, okay? It's not her fault if the guy literally sparkled. " Hey Moon, shall we track our wayward sister?" Airita grinned, pointing to Asalah. " I'm just going to wait to see if a friend will join us too."

Pel'ciri commoner (baby) 306 words || Post II
Pel'ciri nodded seriously but with tail flicking in excitement (which nearly made him jump again, the feel of it was so... Off, against his legs). " That's right, you're the betterest one already!" He had watched Cin work really hard to finally get his swooshy. He hoped Mama would see that he was ready soon. At least a wooden one if Mama was so scared about the pointy metal one (though he was sure Cin could do it either way). " I wonder what I'm gonna do when I grow up." He mused out loud, feeling safe to speak his mind, as usual, around his brother. He didn't like swooshies as much as Cin did, though it was fun to learn a little about it. He mostly preferred playing with Rona when Cin was studying. He liked shinies, and drawing. Not swooshing. Distracted, Pel didn't even notice his little orb of light fading away. Then he looked up, as Aunty Rita said to fet-ch for Mama. He hadn't noticed she had moved so far away from them, and he liked the larger pegasus colt even less. The flying kirin looked cool though. Pel'ciri turned his head to look at his scales, then back at the stranger. He had wings too. He wondered how he got them. Was he born with them? Or did he get them like Pel had? What did he tell Iggdad to give him antlers AND scales AND wings? The colt started walking towards them, curious to see the stranger up close, when he suddenly stopped, looking back at the bunny in the familiar shop. It was still staring at him. With a sudden forlorn look, Pel looked down at the ground as he tugged Cin to come with him. " What do you think?" He asked his brother, pressing for an answer to his musing.

Kimiko | Commoner Post #3 | WC 296 “… Candy sounds fantastic, baby.”
Aaahhh!! Yes! Candy was great!Kimiko nodded enthusiastically as they watched their mother walk off, but swiveled their ears when Airita called out cheerfully to another grown-up in the street. A friend of Mama’s maybe? She seemed really happy to see him! It looked like Anty Az was making plenty of friends, too. She was giving a half-grownup one of her apples while a super shiny grown-up was saying hello. Mama and Moon seemed to be thinking about going to meet them, which Kimiko would enjoy, too. It was always interesting listening to the grown-ups talk. In the meantime, however, their attentions were brought elsewhere; onto the much more fun conversation between their cousins. Cin really really wanted a swooshy, and Kimiko was in agreement. “Maybe you’re big anuff, now? You’re bigger than me… I’m a short.”
Both Cin and Pel were moving around a tad too much for Kimiko to properly stay in the conversation, and perhaps getting down on the ground with them could have changed this, but Kimiko was loathe to leave Draggin-Moon’s back. They instead pondered over Pel’s own musings about what he might grow up to do, wondering what they could do when they were older. Their nickname was Mop… should they help people clean the ground with their fur? … They could get a giant bucket… one they could fit in. And fill it with a bunch of soapy water— Now Cin and Pel were looking at a bunny. Fuzz seemed to have taken note of this as well, his own ears perked up just as straight as Kimiko’s as the two of them curiously observed the scene. It would be nice if Pel got this bunny. Then maybe Fuzz could have a bunny friend.

Cin’ciri|Aodh|Commoner
Cin jostled at Pel’s question. The other twin had never really had questioned what he was gonna do when he was bigger, ever since Cin saw his first swooshy, he knew what he wanted to be. The kirin child hummed to himself, both loudly and thoughtfully, debating the question.
“I don’t knows. I thinks that everyones knows themselves, but I don’t thinks you’s be a good chevalier like mes. Maybe you could help mama at the ‘sino? She and Auntie Rita always say you’re really helpsful there.” Cin attempted to helpfully input, while thinking out loud, before his eyes caught the bunny that Pel saw. Cin gave a loud excited gasp before pushing his brother to where familiars were being sold before looking at all of them.
“Lookit at all the ‘namals, Pelly!” Cin glanced at the bunny for a brief moment before he got distracted with another animal, and the child cried out again happily, embers flickering around his hooves. The child happily bounced around while petting a snake that had been happily snoozing the day away.
“Mama! Mama! Lookit! Pel found a bunny and I found a snake! Can we have them?”

Chip Hungry boi, feed him! ......
Another approached Chip and his apple-sharing-friend, an impressive hybrid that the scrawny kid had noticed early, but chosen not to approach for once because he looked much too rich with all that sparkle. It seemed more likely that he'd send the little pegasus packing or even call the Chevaliers on him. So it was mildly surprising when he offered a warning instead, and berries. Chip hesitated for real this time, eyeing Cielo warily and deciding that those horns and scales would have to slow down the hybrid. If he had to bolt, Chip was far likely to get away. So he bobbed his head thankfully and reached, carefully for the bag of berries with his teke, stuffing it into a worn old messenger bag slung across his shoulders.
"Thank you sir, I'll share the berries with the others, " he promised before taking the offered apple from the mare, with another grateful dip of his had, apple going straight to his mouth as he took out a large bite. "Mmmmh! T'is guud! " he chirped with his mouth full, summoning the sleepy rat Rex from his mane. The tired little head popped out wriggly nose first, clambering further up the kid's neck to collapse between his ears with tiny little squeaks of hunger. The familiar was fat, no other way around it, clearly loved and as well cared for at Chip could managed. He bit off a smaller piece of apple and handed it over to Rex, who took it with surprisingly care... and then stuffed his face just as madly as the pegasus had.
"I'm uh.. my name's Chip, " he offered once the apple was gone, core and all, filing away the mare's face and name alongside other kind equines with food to share.

Alarik || Merchant
The stallion continued to pull his cart. Slowly pulling it through the crowd. His ears turned to the different sounds around the market. He could hear a beggar off behind him. Merchants yelling attention to their stalls. A bellow of laughs came from somewhere or other. Alarik let out a breath of relief. He stopped. Taking a rag to wipe the sweat from his face. His head raised in surprise at his name being called. His head looked over the crowd. Towering higher than most. Alarik recognised the voice to be that of Rita. An equine he had progressively became friends and gotten to know over time. Mostly bonding over the stress they had both been put under. Including the multiple attacks brought upon the city. After being attacked by vindicators, dragons. She was there when the Advisor set a child on fire. When the merchant group was attacked by Griffins and when the streets came into shambles over lost slaves. He had found an understanding friend in amongst all that chaos. The stallion made his way over to say pleasantries. Only the cart stopped him in his tracks. The wheel stuck on a cobble. Lurching the stallion back with a start. He grumbled a little. Before giving it a harder tug. Unsticking it from its position. Alarik weaved his way through the crowd. Apologizing as he seemed to cut others off. More so by accident. “Arita!” Alarik smiled “How are you today?” His tone pleasant and cheerful. Only then noticing the children around her. He gave them a quiet smile. Post 2 || 261

Brigid | MerchantBrigid was surprised that the horse she ran into didn't even seem to notice. Another that was with her seemed to, but did not say anything. Brigid shook it off and trotted away from the group. As she was walking she noticed that two horses had gathered around some runt of a pegasus. Bored out of her mind, she decided to find out what was going on. She walked closer, noticing that the young colt was being given food.
She approached just in time to hear that the scrawny colt was named Chip. He also seemed to have a large rat as a familiar. It was interesting to see who had decided to give the poor thing food. A very regal looking hybrid handed out berries. It made her happy to see that even the seemingly rich cared for the poor. Then it made her sad to think about the fact that there could be poor in the city of gold.
"Do you have shelter somewhere, dear? Somewhere warm to stay at least?" Brigid decided to slide into the scene. She gave Chip an endearing smile.

There was a small chorus of replies from the two sisters, followed by the twins racing around in their usual antics. Moon was frankly finding it a bit difficult to follow, though she wasn't sure if it was because of all the horses running around or the strange air that seemed to permeate into her very soul. "Myself I've found some merchants to supply resources for my trade, but I haven't seen much for my own personal recreation." She said before her attention was again pulled in another direction. This time it was a friendly face that she'd seen many times before. "Omari! It is good to see you too. I hope you've been well?" She smiled before inclining her head to the foal on her back. "This little warrior is Kimiko, they're Arita's foal." She gestured to Artia next to her.
Speaking of Arita, she was asking Moon if they wanted to go track down Asalah. "Oh? Whered-" She turned her head to see where Arita had gestured, Asalah was holding out an apple to a pegasus child. Judging by the colt's physique, he was probably one of the several homeless children that plagued the streets. "Yes, of course we can go track her down." She said with a chuckle. "Though if she has her way, there might be a new child to add to the family."
She turned to Omari again. "If you'd like to join us feel free, seems like there are many friendly faces in the market today." What she didn't say is that the multitude of individuals made her feel less like things were about to pop off at any moment.

Asalah was more than happy to make sure the child was being cared for, her heart aching for a few moments as she considered the child that had died in Bloom. She sequestered that part of her soul away though as another horse joined her, asking of the child has a place to stay. Asalah knew she would happily house the kid if need be, if only to ensure that he was fed and taken care of.
She had lived alone (with her sisters) for quiet some time and knew the bite of hunger a little too well... something that she hoped her own children would never experience. “Here, let me get something for your little friend as well.” She quietly turned back to her bags, taking note of the small rat that had dug itself into the colt’s hair. Nuts did a better job of feeding small rodents, so she pulled out a tiny bag of unshelled peanuts and handed a few over, one by one to the rat.
“I hope the child is treating you well.” She added in private to the rat. She had always been close with animals, and the older she was the more she appreciated how much she could learn of a person from their interactions with their familiars.
Almost on cue, she heard her own children talking about the various pets at market. She had kind of planned on getting the boys their own pets to ensure she had ears on them at all times... maybe now would be good to act on it... once she had completed her business here. 4 | 270

Checkpoint The tension swells like static before a storm, prickling your skin. You taste copper between your teeth - is it just the imagination? Perhaps you grow so uncomfortable that you consider speaking to those around you, yet before you can open your mouth, something happens.
The ground quakes, fissures appearing on the stone, gleaming with blue light. The sky shifts like a living think, cracking ink-black through cracks like shattering glass, and as stars and galaxies bleed through the seams and you wonder, have you lost your mind?

Cielo;Aodh | Commoner Oh what a way to live, let the fear take all control.
With a skeptical expression he scrutinized the little Pegasus while they took the bag with the berries. Hopefully he didn't meant that corpulent rat, whose head had just appeared between the strands of Chips mane, with "others". "You should try to get into an apprenticeship. I know it must be hard for someone in your...situation and the work might not be your dream job, but at least it could get you off the street" he commented desultorily before he nodded into Asalahs direction. "I'm Cielo, nice to meet you as well. Both of you"
His ears twitched slightly when they caught the yelling of a foal that seemed to demand the mares attention. To him the sign that he should also move on again. Slowly but surely he needed to get back to open up the Café. "Alright, have a nice day. Goodb..." He didn't even had a chance to finish the sentence until he started to stumbled over the moving ground beneath his hooves. When he instinctively looked down, the bright blue light caught him unprepared. Blinded for a moment, the hybrid did a few shaky steps to the side and spread his leathery wings, ready to leap into the air at any moment. Once his eyesight returned to normal a quick glance towards the sky was all he needed to realize that he wouldn't be able to simply fly away. And that frightened him. In the matter of a heartbeat however, that terrifying sight turned into something else. It was...beautiful, art. Completely bizarre, but he just couldn't look away. With his heart hammering against his ribcage, he simply starred into the anomaly, unable to move.

Airita 436 words || Post III
Alarik had seen her- she smiled at him as he approached, not bothering with his slight trouble carrying his cart. She had dealt with this kind of annoyance many times when she delivered Evalynn's and Moonrise's pieces to each customer back when she did it herself. " Hey." She grinned. " Good, all things considered." The mare then noticed his eyes stray towards the children. Oh, damn, had she mentioned Kimiko to him? She'd be surprised if she hadn't, she spoke about her foal all the time. But maybe she didn't. Gods, she was horrible at this friend thing. " I don't think I ever introduced you to Kimiko, did I? They're the reason why I've been away from work lately." Airita's smile got softer as she stepped aside to give Alarik a better view of the ball of fuzz on riding on Moon's back. " I'd - thankfully - be lying if I said they're a handful. Baby, why don't you say hello? This is mama's friend Alarik." She added, looking back at Mop, careful to see if they were doing okay. Kimiko tended to be rather quiet and she always worried about signs that she was overwhelming them. She turned to Moonrise when the mare replied, and Airita supressed a smile. " We should get to her soon then, I don't doubt she'd do it." However, before she could address either Kimiko or even introduce Pel and Cin to Alarik, something in the world changed. She had become rather attuned to the magic around her, so at first Airita didn't bother to mention anything. But the feeling built up more and more, and she noticed she was not the only one that felt that way. Then the ground cracked and the sky shifted and it looked like the stars were bleeding through the very fabric of reality. Airita had been to the Starscape once- long ago, when most of what Ignacio did was whisper in his children's ears as he blessed them- so the sight didn't spook her. It felt different though, when she was there the first time, she felt as if nothing had changed except the world around her. This was off. " Kimiko, stay with me, okay?" She called to her child, teke moving to pull them out of Moonrise's back instinctively. She did not hold them once they were on the ground, but her teke lingered next to the youngling in case they got too scared. " Look at how pretty the stars are, Baby." She murmured to them, keeping her voice steady in the middle of the confusion. The last thing she wanted was for Kimiko to panic.

Pel'ciri 348 words || Post III
While Pel had not expected Cin'ciri to tell him he'd be a good chevalier, it still hurt to know his brother didn't think he'd fit in. " I guess not..." He muttered. It was true though, he didn't like to fight as much as Cin. He still thought, spiteful, that if he wanted he could probably be a good chevalier, though. But he didn't like it so he was going to let Cin have fun with that. Helping in the casino was okay, but he didn't wanna do that forever like Aunty Rita and Mama. Pel turned, and looked relieved to have an excuse to move near the bunny again as Cin picked up the snake. He laid down by his side and petted it gently, blushing shyly under the shopkeeper's knowing look. He did let out a short laugh at Cin's excitement at finding a snake. Pel'ciri looked back at Mama when Cin asked if they could keep it. " I like them." He supplied helpfully, still stroking his bunny. The familiar pushed closer to the colt, looking for more cuddles. The next second, however, it had gone still, just its ears flickering, then it bolted back into the safety of the shop. Pel could sense it too, his newly given scales seeming to shiver with whatever it was that was around them. " Cin, what-" he didn't finish the question, because the ground opened before them and stars poured out, and sky went all wonky. The feeling of Iggdad, warm and hot and loving and too much, as it went inside him and changed him and overwhelmed him, flooded Pel'ciri's brain. Nonononono nononononono, no more magics, no more, no- The little kirin bolted upright, a scared yelp escaping his mouth. He raced back to Mama, pushing the other foal that was near her out of the way so he could hide under her and push his face into the inner side of her front legs. " Mama mama, what is this? Make it go away, mama!" Pel begged, not looking up. He was trembling a little, and his face felt wet.
