|| Lebanen || Merchant ||
Lebanen stepped back as he finished setting up a new display. The small wooden table draped with a fishing net hosted the latest treasures that the hippocampus had found on his last dive. The shipwreck had been of an old merchant ship in fairly shallow water but a strong ocean current had made the recovery of items difficult. As a result, he’d only managed to pull a few things but they would bring in a pretty sum if the right buyers stopped by. He inspected the two tall sealed jars. They were crusted with barnacles but if the eroded seal stamped into their surface could be trusted they held an expensive wine that was nearly thirty years old. It was possible given the cool temperatures and conditions of the ocean that the wine had not expired. He’d also pulled and refurbished a set of engraved silver goblets. Not the most exquisite of finds but still fairly exciting. He was already making plans to go back and explore the shipwreck further and see what else was hidden away in the broken ship's hull. Not to mention he'd get to see that massive friendly octopus that had appeared to taken up residence in the drowned ship. The thought made the hippocampus hum with excitement he moved to the open window that looked out over the sea. The day was heating up and there was a little breeze coming from the ocean today so he closed the window in hopes of retaining the interior's coolness for as long as possible. Even with the ocean facing windows closed the shop wasn't quite dim enough to justify lighting a lamp. The dimness was enough however to contract against the soft yellow glow of the vials that hung on his harness and of the antennae on the hippocamus' chin. He swished the modified glowing fin absentmindedly as his mind drifted off below the waves. Really he ought to be checking through payment paperwork that lay arranged on the counter in front of him. But for the moment Lebanen allowed the distant sound of the waves to draw him into a daydream. Post: 1 WC: 355

M I R I N A E• Aodh | Architect • ”I have earned my place in this world and I will not let you take that from me!” The idea had been tormenting Mirinae for months. It wasn’t even her own idea to boot, it was one of her classmate’s. He was a unicorn, not all too bright, but his parents were rich enough to afford the entrance fee, so there he was, sitting next to her and another student in study hall, chatting away instead of working. She couldn’t remember his name for the life of her, and the way he started the conversation meant she needed to remember it immediately so it could go on her hit list. “Hey, Mira,” he had whispered-shouted, clearly not the subtle type. “You know how your parents died in that shipwreck?” She had stared at him with something resembling cold contempt and one of their other classmates, his girlfriend, smacked him upside the head with her teke, adding on a glare for good measure, but the persistent little bugger kept going. “No, no, I’m serious! My cousin knows a guy, a merchant named... Lebanen, I think. He apparently does a lot of deep sea diving and can retrieve anything you want from a shipwreck if you can pay the fee. My cousin said he’s really nice, you should pay him a visit. Maybe he could get that thing they left to go find.” Before he was able to open his big mouth again, the school bells began to ring and the boy and his girlfriend quickly scooted out the door to their next class. Mira remained in the study hall, a little dazed and feeling as though some weird divine envoy of pure circumstance had floated down and smacked her on the head. She actually hadn’t thought about her parents in months. A part of her heart ached, but her mind quelled it. She didn’t need to grieve for them anymore. They hadn’t even been there for her half the time, why was she even sad about it? She had a class to get to anyways.
Try as she might, Mira couldn’t take her thoughts off the merchant. If he could really find that wreck, get her mother’s things back. Maybe... Mira shook her head, nope, no way, she wasn’t going to do it. She wasn’t even going to think about it...She did think about it. She thought about it for a whole week before deciding that it was something she wanted to do, and not because she missed her parents, absolutely not. It was because she wanted whatever shiny trinkets they had left behind, yeah, totally.
Mira took her day off of school to go track down this Lebanen guy. She knew he lived by the coast based on what she could scrounge up, but beyond that, she was totally lost. She was never good with thought out plans. Luckily, around noon, she hit her mark. It was a modest little store, not anything like what Mira was used to, but it was cozy if nothing else. She pushed open the door hesitantly, sudden doubts flooding her mind. Keeping her wings tight to her sides, Mirinae stepped inside the dimly lit room and noticed the shopkeep behind the counter, swaying his fins to the sound of the ocean crashing against the cliff. He wasn’t at all what she expected. Mira was imagining some hardened old sea captain, with one missing eye and a hook for a hoof, but this guy seemed oddly normal. He hadn’t seemed to have noticed her yet so she cocked her head to the side slightly and called out, “Hello?”

|| Lebanen || Merchant || “Hello?” The voice spooked the merchant from his daydreams. It was as if his head had been pulled from the quiet depth to the top of the foaming surf. The noises of the city faded back into his consciousness. He recovered quickly. And his friendly greeting to all customers was ingrained in his mind, thank the gods. “Welcome, to the Slice of the Sea. May I help you look for anything in particular or are you just browsing?” The wind chime on the door must have let out its merry tinkle when the customer had walked in but Lebanen hadn’t heard it. He was starting to suspect he had dozed off. Now that he had a few seconds to regain composure he assessed the newcomer. They were young and sported wide wings and also, Lebanen was quick to notice, fins. To both swim and fly was quite the gift. Though the merchant was no fan of heights and wouldn’t have accepted wings if the gods themselves had offered them. The other’s dark coat made their blue tattoo’s stand out and almost glow in the dim light. It was a neat effect. They also carried themselves well and Lebanen wondered if they were of noble birth. It was possible. He had a fair share of nobles stop by his shop, drawn to odd oceanic nick knacks or seeking recovered treasures. Although recently many of them had been seeking out his widely varied stock of fish and sea creatures. As far as he could tell, keeping luxurious aquariums in their homes was a current trend among nobles. It was one he quite encouraged as he greatly believed in education on the world beneath the waves. So long as they took care of the fish properly. Lebanen realized he’d let his mind wander a bit. He attention returned to his customer. He moved from around his counter to better assist the newcomer. Post: 2 WC: 318

M I R I N A E• Aodh | Architect • ”I have earned my place in this world and I will not let you take that from me!” The architect idly watched the shopkeep as they rounded the counter with ease, quickly putting on the best ‘over eager customer’ face she could manage. She always seemed to squeeze better deals out of merchants like these with a sort of vapid and charismatic look, but this one seemed different. The hippocampus seemed rather candid and genuine rather than cunning and cruel like all the others. Still cautious, Mirinae let the facade drop ever so slightly, returning to an expression of basic enthusiasm. It should suffice for this encounter, she reasoned. No reason to go overboard and scare him away. “I will certainly have to take a look at your wares later, but I’m actually here looking for you,” Mira chirped, the joint of her wing lifting slightly as she gestured towards him. She was absolutely planning on perusing all the other knick-knacks this guy had later; there were a bunch of shiny objects glittering in her peripherals, but that wasn’t the main mission right now. Right now she wanted some questions answered and suspicions confirmed. “You see, I lost something very very precious to me a few years ago and a little bird told me that you will sometimes take trips beneath the waves to retrieve lost treasures, is that right?” She said, expressively tilting her head as she spoke. “I would be able to reward you very handsomely for your efforts, if you are open to...commissions at the moment. I understand this time of year can be rather hectic for merchants such as yourself after all.”
