IW: Delta Mentions: Alvane
Kelby was happier than they had been in months. They were finally out and about again, walking happily through their homelands of Onea, their best friend by their side. Although Delta was definitely closer to Kelby, Alvane was cool too, and Kelby hoped to get to know her It had been a good day, one where Kelby got to smile and laugh, far away from Father's lands. Now, the packages delivered, they turned towards Skeldr Town and the Barracks.
But- where was the road?
The paths they had taken to get here were gone, replaced by an endless set of trees. And not just any trees- Silverwood trees. Trees that Kelby associated with Cultists, blood, and death.
Immediately, Kelby's earlier sense of joy was gone. Instead, green teke checked the buckles on her armor, her scabbards, her weapons. They would have to go through- and for that, she knew that she would have to be prepared for anything.
She glanced over at Delta, meeting her friend's gaze. Delta had lost her leg in a forest much like this, and she knew that she was likely not going to be doing well. Moving closer, she whispered to the taller mare. "We'll be ok, Dels," she said, readying herself to go into the woods. "I've got your back if you've got mine."

Icabod | Stone CircleThe trip to the town had been wildly successful. Icabod was pretty damn proud that he was able to pull such a task off. It had been the first time Hira trusted him to lead a party on an important task. He was traveling with a handful of valkyries, a medic, and a scout. It was a pretty solid team and, although he didn't really know any of them, he was very happy with them. The stallion wasn't sure it was necessary, but he would be sure to put in a good word to their War-Lord.
As the day wore on, things seemed to be going less smoothly. Icabod was glad he thought to bring his war-axe on the mission as they delved deeper into the forest. He couldn't fathom how they'd strayed so far from the beaten path. The scout surely should have been on top of their location. His silver teke gripped at the axe strapped to his side a little tighter as he began to think they might be lost. No one was going to take any blame, because clearly they were all unaware of how this had happened.
Icabod took the lead of the pack. A fog was creeping in and his tremor sense might be useful in navigating through it and the trees. That was the main reason, at least. Of course, he also felt responsible if anything happened to the group. He could not let this end badly. Not for any of them. Part of his mind reassured him that the mares could all hold their own, but he had a hard time letting go of his headstrong attitude. "I'm sure we're fine, no need to worry," he tried to reassure the group in as soft a voice as he could manage. "York. Do you think you can find a way back to any of the small roads at all?"

Fay War-forged - Medic
......
With a little smile on her face, she followed the rest of the group. Her black wings calmly resting aside her as her green eyes looked towards the moving clouds above them. Her circlet that was given by kaia resting on her forehead.
It always cheers her up a bit to help other herd members in these rough times. She was a medic, so helping others was in her blood. So when she soon heard of a party going to aid a local village, she immediately offered herself up to join.
But when the group stopped before her, her eyes stopped looking at the skies to see what was stopping the group. A forest? Wasn't there a road here before? Forest don't grow in a few minutes, right?
The unnease grew within her. She was unprepared if a fight was about to happen. Most of the group had armor or weapons, all she had were saddlebags and a pouch filled with some medical herbs just in case. but yet she felt a sense of safety as she looked at the valkyries in the group. She had always admired the strength of the valkyries.
Though she hoped she didn't have to her use her medical skills today.

York | War Forged | Scout
York’s face remained calm yet confident during the trip, but in the inside he was beaming with joy. He was sided next to Valkyries, a Stone Circle member, and a fellow medic, and his mission was to be their guide. On top of that, this was a mission that their War Lord had requested them to do, which was to go out and help others who needed supplies for the upcoming winter. He never enjoyed seeing people suffer from anything when they had enough resources and land to go around, so for a simple delivery mission, York’s heart warmed up immensely at the simple thought of being able to help the struggling. He took a few glances to examine his group once again as they made their delivery. Everyone seemed fairly happy and content with themselves, which, in return, made York feel accomplished and prideful. Finally, a smile peeked out from his lips as they turned to head back down the road. Only there wasn’t a road anymore. Instead there was a thick forest ahead of them, which clearly wasn’t there when they first came over. Was it possible that he had lost their way? York’s heart dropped slightly. Of course, the mission he gets lost in is the mission where he was paired with higher ranks than his own. To make matters worse, he can hear Kelby reassure Delta that everything will end up fine, making York’s confidence drop with his smile. His head perked up and faced Icabod when he began to speak, and his heart began to beat slightly faster when his name was mentioned. “I... I should be able to but... I’ve never seen this part of the woods before.” York admits, his voice giving off a nervous quiver as he felt that the group getting lost was his doing. “I’m sure once I hit a familiar area, we’ll find the road.”

Alvane | Valkyrie
Talking to York and Icabod Alvane wasn’t at all please to be put on a simple delivery mission. She never was unless she was put up against a real threat. The past few months had been quiet for her. The last escapade she was sent on, odd magics had been at play and she was still wrapping her head around it. Was it all a mirage or did someone obtain a magic that could project the events of the other group. She still didn’t know.
The group began heading back after taking a short rest amongst the village. All were more than ready to get back home after the journey. That was, until those dreaded tree’s appeared. Alvane squinted her eyes in frustration and concern at them. Last time she was amongst them it was fighting the cult and attempting to save Grigori. Both her and the foal were taken. And they kept her just over a month before she managed to escape their grasp. They took something from her that day and she had forsaken to kill every last one of those bastards.
Alvane turned to look at Delta, Kelby, and Fay, her own face covered with an annoyed but a slightly concerned expression from the inconvenience. Before turning around and walking up to Icabod. His reinsurance was sweet but Alvane and the other Vlaks probably knew the truth of it. She listened to the Counselor and the Scout speak before she shook her own head. Her scout days had served her well and she knew the area from wandering more than once.
“We’re in the right place” She corrected. Her one eye looked at York. “You’ve done well to lead us this far.” She took sympathy in the younger stallion. “It’s those tree’s. They just appear as they please.” Alvane’s brow furrowed, her gaze following back to the new forest. “We can either try and find a way around. Or …” The mare paused. Dreading the truth that would come from her mouth. She clutched one of her swords. “Or we go through.” Her jaw clenching. “It's your choice Council” she looked back to Icabod. “But the sun will be down soon and we do not have the supplies to camp the night out here tonight.”

DELTA
The day had been exhausting for the silver mare. Her leg had healed enough for her to go on a supply run with the others and she was happy to see that Kelby was among those in the group.
Her prosthetic leg was managing well, though the Valkyrie did walk with a slight limp, favoring her forcibly amputated right front leg.
At the moment, she was busy listening to her Pallid Bat, Jeremy, describe to her all the sounds he could hear that the mare couldn't as he rested on the crest of her neck.
Delta never left the Fortress without armor and weapons, however due to the distance and her still healing leg, she had forgone her heavier set of plate armor for her simpler (and lighter) chainmail and breast plate. She carried Arbiter, her Claymore, as well as a shiny new set of throwing knives which were strapped to the top of her left front leg.
She froze in her tracks once the fog gave way to a span of Silverwood trees. Flashbacks to the trap that claimed the lower half of her leg only months ago rushed back to her mind, spreading a wicked jolt of fear through the Valkyrie's body. She had to make an effort to stop herself from shaking, but she probably wasn't doing a very good job.
Delta was deaf to the world as her fear of the forest overtook her hearing, never once hearing Kelby's words of encouragement and only bits and pieces of Alvane's conversation with the Scout and Icabod.
She only snapped out of it when Jeremy flew up to a silvery branch and perched on it, hanging upside down and looking into the woods, "Jeremy?" asked the mare. The bat hummed to himself for a moment,
"I don't hear anything bad. Just wind and bugs…. Oh look a moth!" The bat quickly dove from his roost and snatched a fuzzy white moth from the air, eating it in a few bites,
"Yup, I like this place! You can all come in now! We're having soft tacos later!" Chimed the tiny bat as he crawled along the forest floor.
Delta hesitantly walked up to where Icabod and Alvane were standing, "Jeremy says the forest seems fine. He can't hear anything dangerous." she told them quietly, trying to keep her voice from shaking.
She didn't want to go there in the least.

"Jeremy says the forest seems fine. He can't hear anything dangerous."
Between Delta's last syllable and a beat of silence as the word faded away, the forest... shivered.
The wind had abruptly died, but oh, the forest was not quiet. No, the trees continued to sway, almost as if they bent inwards, looked down upon the wary group. The branches made soft hissing sounds as they brushed against each other, and it was as if the trees were speaking.
Well, who was to say that they weren't?
And then the trees stilled. The silence that swelled was an unnatural one, a watchful one.
And then-
BOOM
One of the trees fell to the earth. It was a Silverwood, massive, and nose to tail more than five equines could have stood around it. It hit the earth with enough force to buckle knees, and landed perhaps a hair's breadth from where Delta, Icabod and Alvane stood.
And it was blocking the way they had come.

Icabod | Stone CircleIcabod was a little surprised to see one of the mares walk up and tell the scout to take a step back. But, he wasn't about to argue with someone who was more knowledgeable about the subject. He had a sense that he'd been in the area before as well and knew she was right. There were a few good points made about where they should go next. He considered the options, about to decide on going through, when the gods seemed to decide they were going through the spooky trees no matter what.
The stallion jumped as the tree crashed down. The three of them had been awfully close to being taken out by the massive thing. "Well, I suppose this means we're going through. I was going to suggest that anyway," he let out a sigh and shook his head. The fall had been very unexpected. Even his tremor sense hadn't notified him of its swaying. Very suspicious, but Icabod chose to keep that fact to himself. Everyone seemed a little on edge already. Icabod looked back at the tree. He tried to judge if it was something he could jump, but it seemed highly unlikely. The thing was massive. He said a soft prayer to Kaia that they had not been crushed. His gaze flashed to Alvane and Delta, then to York. Hopefully the mares were right in their thoughts on the trees. "Yeah. Sorry, we're not finding a way around that."
The council member decided to pull his waraxe from his side and led the charge into the hissing forest. Nothing suspicious about this at all, he thought to himself. It would have been nice to have his owl at his side, maybe Sleet could have helped scout. But, alas, he had decided there was no reason to bring the big bird. Icabod began walking into the trees, head high, teke gripping tightly around his weapon's handle. "We'll be just fine everyone," he felt the need to reassure them, despite the fact he was confident they'd all already decided their opinions. And gods, he hoped he was right.

IW: Delta, Icabod Mentions: York, Alvane, Fay
It had seemed like it was going to be ok- an uneventful trip through the Silverwood. Creepy, yes, and stressful, most likely, but uneventful.
And then...
A loud boom echoed through the woods as a giant Silverwood fell not even a foot behind her. Kelby jumped nearly a foot in the air, a cry of "By the Goddesses!" leaving her lips. She hated to admit it, but she had been startled. Herja had, too, because her fur stuck up along her back as she whirled around towards the tree, growling all the way. Kelby shook off the nerves, and turned to her wolf, gently shushing her.
"It's ok, Herja," they said, speaking low and soft. "It scared me too, but we'll be fine." Forest green teke spread over the she-wolf, smoothing her fur and slowly calming the growls.
Immediately, they turned to Delta, teke resting on their sword. She had been much closer to the tree than they had, but didn't appear injured. They brushed up against the larger mare's side, as if saying I'm here, don't worry.
Turning to Icabod, she heard his words of going through. He was right- no one could get over that tree. "We should strategize on what positions to take when going through these woods," she said, her voice calm and sure. "York should probably take point, as the Scout among us. Delta could take one flank, I the other, and Alvane could bring up the rear. That way you and Fay can stay protected, while those of us fully equipped for battle can be on the outside, ready to defend if necessary." With a moment's thought, she added on a "with your permission, of course," so that she didn't seem as if she was ordering him around. Because that had gone over so well last time... she didn't want a repeat of that. Pissing off one high ranking War Forged was enough for now.
By the Goddesses, Kelby would need a long drink by the time she got back to Skeldr Town.

No sooner had she finished speaking, the Silverwoods shuddered, their branches creaking and hissing in a vicious wind that wasn’t actually there. The forest bowed inwards as if the trees themselves were bending down to look upon the small group within. Terror surged into the Valkyries chest and her head whipped around, frantically searching for a way out of the nightmare.
There was a sudden, erie hush moments later and everyone seemed to freeze. The silver mare held her breath. Something was about to happen…
BOOM!
The mare probably jumped ahead about four feet, whirling around to face the massive fallen tree in fear, a string of frightened curses in Aquorian flying from her mouth as her teke gripped the hilt of Arbiter. Her ears pinned to her skull and black smoke streamed from her flared nostrils, the occasional teal and aqua spark escaping every so often. The jagged edges of a split-second Shield that now surrounded the group shimmered faintly in the dying light. Taking a moment and realising it had just been the tree that had fallen, and that was now blocking their way out completely, Delta took several deep, calming breaths, a snort extinguishing the smoke and a deep sigh released her Shield.
She looked at Icabod as he spoke, stating the obvious by saying that there was no way they could get around the colossal fir tree. Her gentle eyes passed over Fay and York, giving them a subtle nod as a gesture, “You two okay?”
Her ear flicked in Kelby’s direction, acknowledging the reassuring gesture the smaller mare made. When the Dunskin mare spoke of a strategy, she couldn't keep the teasing smile and tone out of her voice, “Shield Kisser.” she mumbled, glancing down at her best friend. She admired her friends ambitions to become a Shield. If she did, she would be the first mare to do so.
Delta looked to Icabod and gave him a curt nod, “With respect Sir, I agree with Kelby’s idea. Though I have an extension to offer,” She told the large stallion, now armed with his ax.
“Should you detect anyone else out here, tell me to raise a Shield. I can surround all of us on all sides while at a walking pace. If there happens to be someone hostile out here with Sixth Sense or Tremor Sense they won't be able to see us via the Blessing. They’ll have to see us directly. I can maintain the Shield for up to four hours if need be.”
She bowed her head to the Council member, "However, this isn't my choice and I'm not meaning to make it sound so. Just simply offering an idea."

York | War Forged | Scout
York watched as one of the Valkyries, Alvane, step ahead of him to be by the Counselor's side, her eye turning to meet York's as she spoke softly. A simple reassurance from someone of higher ranking was all York needed to regain confidence in himself, his worried expression shifting to a subtle smile and his head raising a little higher. Glancing around and behind him, he could see the uneasiness of Delta grow immensely. His walking pace slowed a bit as his focus was trained on the mare's state, a growing concern building in his heart. He doesn't know her story, or anyone's, really, and he wasn't in a position to start asking them such personal questions either. His attention then swapped from Delta to her familiar, Jeremy, who he witnessed perch then fly off to snack on a moth he had sensed, making York snort softly. His head watched as Delta walk past him to be next to Icabod Alvane, repeating what Jeremy had said to her. As a young stallion who has yet to experience everything that Onea has to offer, hearing Delta translate for her familiar was a peculiar sight, yet he was impressed with her skill. And then... the trees rustled as the air stopped moving. When all goes quiet... BOOM!Seemingly out of nowhere, one of the trees had narrowly missed the Counselor and the Valkyries, startling the 3 greatly as they all had jumped, both physically and mentally. York immediately reared up in the air and turned his hoof, neighing loudly as he performed a brief u-turn and repositioned himself to where he originally stood. Through his pants, the stallion muttered through his breath, "By the Gods...", before he regained his composure and stood tall, glaring at the tree before looking through his group to see how they all held up. His eyes went to Delta as she made her comment, York giving off a small nod in response as he turned to face Kelby who was busy discussing the plan to Icabod. "I'm just alerted, that's all. And you?" he asked back. York's yellow teke checked the straps on his broadsword along with his quiver, making sure no arrows were lost from the startle. As York's name was mentioned by the Valkyrie, he gave another nod of understanding. A part of him was nervous, having to lead the group once again, but the other part of him told him that he was doing everything correctly and according to plan. He let the other discuss as he had no input other than his loyalty. "Well, whatever gets us through the quickest and safest, I'll stand by it. It's up to you, Counselor."

Icabod | Stone Circle Icabod listened intently to the plans the others offered up. They made a lot of sense in what they were saying. However, Icabod had a hard time remembering that he was actually an important figure in the herd. Hearing each of them call him counselor was strange to say the least. It was hard to let go of the notion that he could no longer be the same headstrong raider he used to be. Besides, the three valkyries were probably about five times more likely to do some real damage if something happened to them than he could. "I suppose that's not a bad idea," the stallion sighed. He tucked his waraxe back into its strap across his back, but kept a firm grip on it.
"I will keep myself extra attuned to my own tremor sense to feel for anyone that might sneak up on us. Although you'll have to act fast, if I can feel them, they will certainly feel us. A large group can be hard to hide," he explained to Delta. "The rest of you should fall into the formation."
Icabod stepped closer to Fay, making sure he wasn't too close to invade her space, but close enough that she might feel safe. He then waited for everyone else to prepare. "Don't worry, you'll be just fine," he spoke in a softer tone to Fay since she seemed a little on edge. Once everyone looked ready he spoke out, "Alright, lead the way, York."

Alvane | Valkyrie
Tiny wings fluttering took Alvanes attention. Delta’s familiar fluttered to perch on a branch. Alvane watched them eagerly. Knowing the other Valkyrie could understand the bat. The liver chestnut mare squinted as a moth fluttered by. Reminding her of the giant moths that night the cult attacked the group of Valkyries. She had an odd distaste for the insect since then.
The gray trotted up to her and Icabod. Relaying what the familiar had said. Alvane raised a brow. Unsure to believe their words. With that, the tree’s stirred. Frantic in their action. “What in the Land Mothers name!” and just as soon as it started it stopped. The air filled with silence again.
Shock burst through Alvane as her body froze. It felt like the ground under her hooves fell out from under her. Instead, her standing lightweight frame was essentially bounced off the ground with the force of the massive tree hitting the ground. Alvane tensed up unsure of what happened at that moment as her back was turned to it. Her ears rung out in pain with the sudden burst of sound and energy. She stood still before turning her head to see the pale wood just feet from her. Only just noticing the shield. A fleeting breath exhaled from her. Disappearing into the fog that hugged the area.
Icabod piped up. She knew they had to go through, but after that, she’d prefer a different choice. Her expression said exactly that as she looked across at the rest of the group. Making sure they were all okay. Alvane knew Icabod was trying to keep the spirits up with ensuring that they would be okay. But the mare knew otherwise. She couldn’t ensure they wouldn’t walk into something in there. That came with the job she guessed. But she didn’t say anything as to not frighten the others. Fear would help nothing.
Kelby approached, proposing a plan. Alvane nodded softly. Her jaw clenched. “Couldn’t have said it better myself. The diamond formation is perhaps the best approach.” She backed up her comrades.
The mare stared at the fallen tree. Allowing everyone to sort themselves. She couldn’t help but feel like they were being herded into the forest like cattle. Or a herd of sheep or alpana. The group moved off into the trees. “Keep us safe mother Kaia” Alvane prayed before trotting to catch up to the group. Staying a few steps behind to ensure no one was following. She pulled out her Crossbow. Readying a bolt with her swirling, black and blue starry teke. Her brows crossed with anticipation.Post 2 || Word Count: 441

Fay War-forged - Medic
Talking Delta and Icabod ......
The feeling of safety was short-lived. Shivers were sent down her spine as the wind kicked in. But as soon as it appeared, it dissapeared. This was unnatural to say the least.
BOOM, A silverwood tree had fallen behind them, only inches away from a few partymembers.
A small screech escaped from Fay's mouth. Her body all tense and wings spread as far as they could. Her flight instinct almost kicked in. It took a few seconds to calm herself down, relaxing her wings beside her. Her eyes still widend from the shock she looked carefully behind her, a huge tree blocking their path.
Oh fine, the only way right now is forward, which is the oppposite of what she wanted right now.
"I'm fine, i believe" As she answered to Delta. "Just a bit shaken up.". Her eyes wandered to everyone in the group. She was glad before that she was in a group with a few valkyrie and a stone circle, but now she was really glad.
She felt Icabod come closer. In normal circumstances she would take distance immediately but now she was glad, her body relaxed a bit from the shock though not completely. "Thank you. I know we will be." She said softly.
But deep inside she know something will probably go wrong.

As your group proceeded (with warranted caution) into the depths of the forest, the trees resumed their whispered conversations. Silverwoods were known for how tall, wide and straight that they grew, like living flagpoles, sentinels reaching for the sky. So why was it, you might well have wondered, that when glimpsed from the corner of your eyes, the trees seemed to be curving inward, bending towards you? To look at them fully was to see them tall, straight, normal- but as soon as you looked away, the edges of your vision were crowded with leaning, leering trees.
It was a watchful feeling, and not a pleasant one. The Silverwood were said to appear in times of need to guard Onea and its citizens... yet the atmosphere radiating from this forest felt sullen, mocking. Perhaps it was just your imagination...
Or actually, perhaps not.
The forest seemed to tremble again as your group passed beneath a particularly dark copse. Icabod would have felt a moment of premonition, time enough to warn himself and perhaps two other equines.
Then the forest floor burst into life. Plants began to grow, bloom, wither and die in rapid succession, and with each cycle the next wall of growth grew taller, thicker. Vines snaked out, searching for hooves, fetlocks, tails, anything to grab and pull deeper into the thicket. Three equines were grabbed in this manner, and the ever growing flora threatens to suffocate them... if the vines don't do it first. The next three characters to post have been attacked by the vines and are in danger! The remaining three must work together to save them! It will take two posts per user before your group is safe!

IW: York, Delta, Alvane
Hearing the approval of their plan, Kelby nodded. "Alright then," they said, their face a mask of calm and control. "York, take point. Delta, I'll grab left flank if you'll take right. And Alvane, bring up the rear. Fay, Icabod, keep your eyes and ears peeled. We don't want anything bad to happen, and we'll be looking, but another two sets of eyes helps." With that, they took their place, and started into the woods.
It was quiet as they walked, and Kelby didn't hear anything unusual. Her eyes scanned the brush, gripping her rapier in her green teke as she looked around.
It shouldn't have surprised her, really, what came next.
A flash of green from her peripheral vision. A panicked yelp from Herja, and then all of a sudden her wolf was no longer by her side, but was being pulled into the brush.
"Herja!" she cried, leaping into the brush, which was now seemingly alive, to free her loyal companion. Vines fell in quick succession to her rapier, as she spun in circles, clearing a path to her wolf. And soon, yes, Herja was free- but now the vines attacked Kelby in earnest, and although she pulled out her longsword to assist in the vine-cutting process, they were too much to fight off. Her blades continued to fly in a whirlwind of shining silver, but they grasped at her hocks, her knees, one even grabbed her tail and almost pulled her off balance.
She needed help. She needed help now.
Quickly, she called to her fellows. "Hate to admit it, but I'm in over my head here! Delta, Alvane, help a shield sister out!"

York| War Forged | Scout
As instructed by both the Counselor and the Valkyrie, the young stallion moved forward to form the tip of the diamond, looking back to watch the rest of the group form up behind him as planned before taking a deep breath and guided the group down the forest. York has trekked down these woods before, and if not these specific woods, it was one very similar to it, and not a single tree has looked at him as these Silverwoods are currently. Or was that just his mind playing tricks on him?
It was a silent walk with the group down the unknown forest, so York didn't want to ask the rest of the group if they felt like something was off. Besides, Icabod had a blessing that enabled him to be able to sense danger before it gets to them. Even so, York couldn't shake the feeling from his head that this forest was far too quiet, especially after one of its trees nearly killed three other equines earlier. This silence... was deafening.
York's ears flicked around, hoping that he'd hear something in the forest. Something. His ear flipped backward as the silence was finally broken with a yelp of a wolf -Kelby's wolf - along with Kelby screaming her name and chasing after her companion. York instinctively unsheathed his broadsword, turning to charge in after her. However, his hoof couldn't leave the ground as a tight coil of vines grappled onto his back legs like a hungry snake, yanking him onto his side as he fell over with a horrified cry, his sword clanging against the grass.
For a young stallion who has never experienced a journey as extreme as the one happening right now, this was a nightmare. More vines joined in, grabbing his remaining legs and tail, dragging him deeper in the opposite side of where Kelby was and keeping him immobile. York stumbled, trying his best to keep his upper body upright as well as prevent the vines from pulling him in deeper.
"Whoever is available, please lend a hoof and get these cursed plants off of me! And quickly!"

Icabod | Stone CircleIcabod felt more comfortable as they began to make their way deeper into the strange forest. The trees seemed... off, but there was nothing that could be done about it. Everything was eerie as they trudged onward, nothing seemed too worrisome, luckily.
Then something snapped in his head. Something was very wrong. Very very wrong. Icabod jumped and shoved Fay out of the way, sending her in the direction of one of their side guards. He tried to move his own hooves in time to avoid the flora popping out of the ground. A few carefully placed steps allowed him to escape the initial burst, but it was not enough. As vines began to crawl up the stallion's legs he pulled out his axe. Icabod got a few good slashes in, but the plants were growing too fast. Soon he was ensnared and losing his balance. A large thud could be heard as he fell to the ground. His axe flailed wildly, not making solid contact with anything useful.
As he attempted to kick and slash himself free, Icabod noticed that two others had been entwined in the vines. "I would suggest everyone stop standing around baffled and help us out!" he yelled in an almost panicked tone. Something was more wrong about this whole situation than he initially believed. The thought that there might be someone behind this attack had certainly crossed his mind. Be it god or mortal, though, he could not say.

DELTA
As the silvery mare got into formation she quickly gave a relaxed whistle to Jeremy, "Come here fuzz ball," she called. The small bat flew down from a branch and landed on the top of the mare's head, right between her ears. Delta gave him a smile, "I need your scarf please. Don't worry, I'll give it back when we are out of the forest."
The little bat made a disapproving sound and reluctantly pulled his lavender wool scarf over his head and held it in front of Deltas face via his itty-bitty teeth once done. The Valkyrie smiled warmly, taking the scarf with her teke and stuffing it down the front of her breast plate for safe-keeping, "Thank you, Jeremy. I'd like you to fly ahead of us, but keep us in sight. Come back if you see or hear anything that isn't us." With the assignment of a job, Jeremy perked up, "Okay! I'll come back and yell really loud if there are bad guys!" he told the mare, taking off and flying into the branches. Casting the forest around her an uneasy glance, Delta took a calming breath and walked on with the group.
Every so often it seemed like the trees were leaning in towards her. It made her jumpy and more than once did she spook away from a tree, having recently bumped Fay slightly with her rear as a result. She cast the other mare an apologetic glance and mumbled an apology. She noticed after a while that she had been lifting her right leg higher than her others when she startled.
Her already racing adrenalin skyrocketed when York, Icabod and Kelby were suddenly attacked by ... vines? Delta braced Fay with her side as the other mare was shoved out of the attacking flora's path by Icabod.
She heard Kelby shout for assistance and made sure Fay was stable on her hooves before helping the other Valkyrie. Delta lept to her friends side ready to draw Arbiter and hack the foliage off of her. At the sight of her best friend tangled and trapped, however, Delta paused all actions, her claymore half drawn. Her friend was being attacked for no reason and it made her irrationally angry.
She pinned her ears to her skull and threw her sword back into it's sheath. Black smoke streamed from her mouth and nostrils, the odd aqua colored spark following every-so-often. Her front hooves ignited, the spiked iron shoes turning red hot in seconds. The flames licked aggressively up the front of her legs, though never passing her knees. She scraped at the roots of the vines with her flaming hooves, a grin of wicked satisfaction crossing her features when she noticed that the vines and leaves shrivelled and turned to ash on contact. There were just a few more to go.

IW: Delta, Icabod Mentions: York
Delta looked fearsome as she came over to help Kelby out of the mess of vines they had gotten trapped in. With her flames sparking and her dragon-inspired armor, she did truly look like the Northern Dragon. Kelby smiled a smirkish grin, sheathing their swords and pulling on their own blessing. Winking at Delta, they began to freeze the water in the vines with their Frost Manipulation, then shattering them with sharp movements. "Fire and Ice- sounds good for a team name, huh?" they shouted at their friend over the roar of flames, shattering ice, and two heavily breathing Valkyries.
Soon, the vines holding Kelby were gone, and they breathed a sigh of relief. With a nod at Delta, they shouted, "Go help York. I've got Icabod." They ran over to their target, again using their blessing to halt the advance of the vines and make it so they could easily be shattered. Soon, the vines around Icabod began to give way as well. With a little bit more work, he would soon be free as well.
Kelby laughed as Herja joined in, biting and thrashing the vines that Kelby had not yet frozen. "Good girl!" she called to her wolf, lightness filling her eyes. "You get that vine!"
To be honest, this wasn't so bad. Yes, she and the others needed to figure out why this thing had happened, and why the vines chose to attack, but clearing them wasn't all that hard. They'd finish this, investigate a bit, and be on their way.

Alvane || Valkyrie
Alvane didn’t exactly keep close with the group. Though she kept them in her signs. A good few paces back she kept. She still had an itching feeling of someone following them. Or at least watching them. The tree’s bent on the edge of her sights but it wasn’t something new to her. And she didn’t allow it to bother her. Though she suspected it may bother the others.
She sighed, still slightly uneasy as she suspected the worse. She heard a branch break over the silence. Swiftly turning around with her crossbow raised ready to shoot anyone lurking. Nothing. She stood for a few seconds to make sure. Her good eye still trained on her crossbows sights. She caught her teke shaking, with the weapon in her grasp. Did that really just un-settle her. It felt like being back there almost over half a year ago. Yet she would never admit it to anyone. She lowered her teke.
Kelby yelled ahead. Putting Alvane on high alert. Causing her to bolt back to the group.
“shit..”
The sight she was greeted with put her into auto-pilot. Throwing herself into the fray. Alvane headed straight for Icabod and York. Taking notice the medic was out of harms way and that Delta went straight for their Sheild Sister.
“Fay! Take this and start helping York!” She dropped her crossbow where she stood. Unsheathing her short sword affectionately called Kierapay. A fine, delicate sword with a curved blade. Its surfaces etched, depicting a wing. Throwing it quickly to the medic.
Alvane set out on cutting the Council member free. Pulling out her long sword.
It had been a gift from Hira when Alvane had returned home from her dealings with the cult. Perhaps a thank you but the mare didn’t believe she deserved it. Not until she brought Hira’s son home. It was only after her fellow Sheild Sisters convinced her to carry it on her person that she kept it at hand.
The blade was strong and well balanced. Depicted upon its blade was Kaia, the earth mother seemingly standing amongst trees and other foliage. An emerald green stone adorned its hilt all the while being wrapped in a tough boar leather.
One full swoop cut through at where the vines seemed to start. Alvane gently began cutting away at the vines that wrapped themselves around her herd mate.

Fay War-forged - Medic
......
With a little sense of unease in her heart she followed the rest of the group, her eyes and ears open to keep check of her surroundings. She had prefered to fly over the forest intstead of walking into it, but she didn't want to leave the group she had been travelling with behind like that. Maybe it had been best if she was equiped with a sword, or atleast a dagger, something to defend herself with in a worst case scenario. But no of course she had only brought along her saddlebags and a few herbs just in case someone fell ill or injured themself.
But yet with her senses on high alert, she was caught by suprise when she heard the yelp of a wolf, Kelby's wolf. Her head turned to see what had happened but before she could react she felt being pushed away and being caught by Delta. She nodded to Delta to signal that she was stable, but yet she had to register what just happened. With a quick glance it finally caught her ey; they're being attacked by,,, vines?
Oh no, what could she do to help? She wasn't sure how. Maybe her blessing that she had gained from Kaia? While she saw Delta try to free Kelby, she focussed on freeing York with her blessing. But it was no avail, her blessing was too weak for whatever kind of cursed thing this was.
"Fay! Take this and start helping York!".
Alvane's yelling woke her up from this focussed trance, barelly catching the short sword that she had throw to her. With swiftness she ran towards the scout. Panicked, she started to hack and stab the vines while praying to Kaia for his safety.

DELTA
At Kelby's freedom from the vines and her order to go help York, Delta spun on her heels and pulled Arbiter from it's sheath. The sword didn't look like anything special. The thick blade was heavy yet nicely balanced as all good swords should be. There was nothing intricate or heavily identifying to let others know that this sword was hers, should she drop it on a battlefield for some Gods-damned reason.
But by Kaia was this bitch sharp.
She readied her blade, hooves still ablaze, the smell of wildfire smoke soon filling the surrounding area of the group. The ground where her hooves landed burned for a few seconds then extinguished, leaving only a charred print. She lunged for the vines that held the Scout, "York, pull the vines at your front legs tight and don't move!" she commanded, bringing Arbiter's double-edged blade down on the taught ivy, slicing them clean in half. Quickly she brought her front hooves down upon the spawning point of the flora, hot embers erupting from the impact and sheer heat of the fire as the vines charred and turned to ash. The turquoise light from her fire glinted off of something out of the corner of Delta's eye and her gaze flicked over to catch it. Her teal-blue eyes landed on the Scouts sword, having been dropped during the vines initial attack.
The silver mare leapt over to it, grabbing the hilt with her teke and slid it over to the scout so that it was within his reach, "Figured you could use this!" she said with a light humor on her voice as she continued to slice away at the vines at his back legs, burning them at the base before they could get a chance to sprout again.

York | War Forged | Scout
York pushed and held his ground, his front hooves dug into the ground as he continued to resist the tightening vines. One small slip from either hoof could've been his end. With his teeth clenched, eyes closed, and snout up into a struggling snarl, he persisted.
What was a few seconds felt like an eternity, and York has never been happier to hear the thumping of hooves dashing towards him. A small peak from his eyes, and he saw Fay with a short sword with an equally fearful expression worn on the mare as she began hacking against the vines. With small work, the young stallion's struggle was decreasing as the cursed plants were being slashed off. York opened his eyes, his pupils looking back to watch Fay slash at the vines, a relieved smile across his face.
"Almost got it, Fay! Right on time!" York beamed. But the fight was far from over. His front hooves were still held captive by the lashing vines and more was slithering their way. That was, until he heard more thumps -angrier ones - and smelled the burning plants in the air. Looking forward now, he saw Delta dashing over with her dragon-like armor and fiery hooves beating against the ground, shouting a command at him.
York froze for a split second as he felt intimidated simply watching this dragon-shaped equine charged towards him with her sword held firmly, but did exactly as she called him to do so once he snapped out of his trance, pushing the vines forward away from his legs as her blade cleanly slit the plants in half.
The plants fell off of his hooves, and York jumped back onto his feet, his yellow teke picking up his broadsword from the ground when Delta quickly slid it over the vegetation.
"Gladly!" the young stallion chuckled, placing his sword in front of him and facing the forest, his ear flicking back to listen to Delta, "Now what's the next play?"

Icabod | Stone CircleIcabod was struggling like crazy while he waited for the others to help. Finally a couple of the mares came to help him out. Alvane was going at those vines like crazy. He figured it would be in his best interests to lie still with a sharp blade so near to his flesh. Getting sliced open while being freed did not sound like fun.
Finally the vines had fallen away from him. Icabod hurried to his hooves and strapped his axe back to his side. Surveying the damage, he noticed that the other two who had been attacked by vines were also free. He said a silent prayer to Kaia for not letting them die there. If anyone were to lose their life on this simple mission, he'd never recover. The stallion let out a deep breath. "Thank you all so much," he responded to the ones that had helped to fight off the vines. His eyes traveled to Fay. "Please make sure that no one has any serious wounds. I can feel some bruising, but I'm fine." Icabod was very aware of the fact that some of his fur had been rubbed off from the tightness of the vines, but there was no blood and he was not in agonizing pain.
After a moment he heard York ask about their next plan. It may not have been directed towards Icabod, but it was a good question nonetheless. He scanned the trees, strange flora, and dead vines. "I suppose we should continue to push through. I don't think the diamond formation worked all that well," he sighed. "York. Alvane. I want the two of you up front with me. I will be keeping more focus on my tremor sense. I expect you two to be good scouts and Alvane, you seem like you've got a good handle on anything about to attack. The rest of you keep close and be ready for anything." With that he began to head deeper into the trees.

Alvane || Valkyrie
Quickly the council member was cut free. She made stew out of the vines. Being cautious enough to not let the blade touch Icabods skin but quick enough so they wouldn’t grab at her too. Once finished Icabod raced to their feet. Almost knocking into the mare, though she was able to catch it before it happened. Pushing him slightly away from herself with her starry blue teke. Taking a soft step back as well. Barely enough for him to notice really. Alvane quickly looked around to check everyone else. Making sure everyone was okay enough to keep moving. Gazing at her shield sisters a little longer than the rest. Content that they were okay, her eyes followed back to Icabod as he thanked her. She dipped her head in approval. A “You’re more than welcome” falling from her mouth. She let him continue to Fay, Alvane’s head turning again to Delta and Kelby, taking a few steps towards them. “You two alright? Your familiar, Kelby?” She continued, looking down at the wolf. “I outta gut the bastard that did this” she spoke aloud. Her ears pinned back, held close to her neck. Her face scrunched in an angry tone. Icabod began speaking again, grabbed her attention and she listened with intent. Quickly nodding in approval. A quick smirk tipped the corner of her mouth as the stallion noted her quick action. “The mountain must stand” She moved lightly on her feet. Passing Fay as she got herself in order. “Keep a hold for that for me will you. Until I know we’re safe” She told the medic. Pointing at the short sword. Everyone else had something to defend themselves with it seemed except her. She wanted to make sure no rock was left unturned if they were to face something else. She stood next to York. Perhaps a step just in front to protect the group. If someone was to come at them. Alvane would give them a good telling off for sure. Granted none of her team stood in front of her. Poast 4 || 348

DELTA
Delta couldn't help the lighthearted chuckle that escaped her at York's final question, "You're asking me? I'm just the Soldier following orders!" she laughed, slashing her sword through some stray vines, "Much to my delight." she added quietly, albeit a bit more bitterly than she would have liked. Once she noticed that the vines had stopped their attack and everyone was up and free, the silver mare listened to Icabod's following orders.
Sheathing Arbiter she gave the stallion a nod, "Yes, sir."
She looked over to Alvane. Although Delta's eyes were shadowed by her helmet that didn't stop them from showing the smile she gave the dark mare, "A little... fired up... but otherwise perfectly fine." she answered, adding emphasis on her pun, "By the way Alvane, sweetheart, I don't think you brought enough weapons. I think you need to go back to the Fortress and get more." the Valkyrie joked sarcastically, laughing a bit.
As Delta began to follow the group she waited to make sure Fay was in front of her. Sure Kelby and herself were learned in Herbalism and minor Medic's training but they were no substitute for a real Medic. Fay was of value to the group should any of them get hurt along the way.
She did a quick scan of the tree branches above and found Jeremy hanging from one not far away, a worried look on his face. Delta smiled behind her helmet, "It's alright Jeremy. We're fine." she reassured.
There was a light click as the iron shoe of her prosthetic leg nicked a rock. At that moment something told her to stop. So she did. She didn't know why she had to stop, but she felt she needed to. That if she had continued to walk she would have forgotten something. Turning her gaze to the rock she had hit with her metal hoof, she was at first amazed at how beautiful it was.
The rock was.... actually not at all rock shaped but instead was a large arrowhead having been carved from one. The anchoring point of the arrow was carved from white granite while the actual arrow point and edge was made from Opalite. It was remarkably smooth and the Opalite seemed to blend into the granite seamlessly. The second thing that sprang to Delta's mind was what in the hell was this doing way out here?
Reaching out her teke, the mare picked it up and turned it over a few time in her mental hand. This would look rather nice fixed to her sword's guard.
Opting to take the arrowhead with her, she ticked it under a pauldron between the metal and the chainmail. Delta didn't make it three steps before a jolt raced through her head. She came to an abrupt stop as words that were not hers rang in her skull,
"A Valkyrie...…How fitting." it was an assessment.
Delta spun around, the voice sounding like it was behind her and beside her at the same time. The voice was female and sounded calm and elegant. The Valkrie pinned her ears and opened her mouth to speak but the voice cut her off before any sound could escape, "Make no sound, Daughter of Cascade. You have a job to do."
-Dismissal-Calming-Focused-
Emotions that were not hers were felt and Delta was beginning to piece together what exactly she had found. Adair had something similar.
The Council needed to know.
Clearing her throat she trotted to catch up with the older stallion, "Uh... Icabod. Sir. I uh... have something to bring to your attention, sir." she said, keeping her voice down so the other's couldn't hear. She took the arrowhead from beneath her armor and held it so he could see it, explaining as the group walked, "I just found this, sir. And... now I can hear a voice... and feel emotions that aren't me."

Fay --- Fear. That was what the feathered medic was feeling right now. Why did these wretched forests keep appearing in Onea? Normally she would just take another route or fly over them if it was a possibility, but now she was hacking away vines to free up the scout York. Her mind was everywhere; what if the vines came back? what if they could never leave the forest? she wanted to go back to her little home in the farmlands, back to Oona and Lucy.
But she came back to reality when she heard York say that she was right on time. It made her mind a bit more clear; these vines needed to be cut. But before she could say something she heard heavy hooves behind her and the smell of burnt plants fill her nose. she turned her head as she saw the valkyrie approach and took a few steps back as she knew that she could do a better job than her, a medic whos inexpierenced in battle.
When the vines were destroyed, she took a look around the group to see if anybody was wounded. With a happy reliefed sigh it became clear to her thqt there were only some minor bruises; nothing too serious.
"Thank you." she nodded with a smile. Maybe she buy herself a short sword too when she got home, defintely if more of these forest keep appearing . --- Word count: 240 Post: 4

You worked together and freed yourselves (and fellows) from the vines. I'd congratulate you, except that you still seem to be in quite a bit of danger. You cut the vines back, and though they were temporarily subdued, they are quickly rallying. Every place that a vine or plant was cut is bursting into rapid growth, and curving upwards... almost like a snake preparing to strike.
And strike it does; there can be no doubt that the flora is targeting your group, with extreme prejudice. Every step you take away is mirrored by the rapidly growing plants as they reach towards you; your only hope is to outrun them before you all become unwilling fertilizer.
Then the forest begins to rumble. The very ground shudders and heaves beneath your hooves, and while the earth is undoubtedly quaking... this is no earthquake. At least, no normal one. The waves of tremors build, and like the vines, they seem to target towards wherever an equine is standing. The trees leer down at you, as if delighting in your troubles.
A particularly large heave rocks the forest, and actually throws anyone without a solid connection to the earth through the air. Kaia's forest, your ancestral home, is making its message very clear: LEAVE.
Another wave builds, even stronger, one that threatens again to hurl bodies through the air. And the vines? Yeah, they're still coming for you.
Time to go! Work together to try and find some stability while guarding your backs and gtfo! Oh, and you might hear brief snatches of voices, and sight glimmers of what seem to be other equines through the trees. Hard to say, really, with the earth throwing you around like so many rag-dolls.
