(Hope)
A roleplay between Fox and Evokar Setting: Heading to the town of Skelder, Evokar looks for Fox, the mare he will be working with now. Though it of course comes at a heavy cost. With Azeroth gone, Evokar rises to occasion to surpass his mentor, and that means taking on his duties and meeting with Fox who was the eyes and ears for Azeroth. The weather seems fair enough for know, but only the weather witches know how long that will last.
It was time. He thought mindlessly to himself, how long could he keep himself caged up within his work. To review over everything that Azeroth has left to him. Evokar was stunned at the news, heartbroken to say the least. Yet many wept that night as Azeroth's passing. But once it was done, it was done, and for Evokar; well it didnt work that way for him. He saw everything so differently. He saw the good equine Azeorth had left behind, his family, his friends and so much more. Kaia had taken him, his time ending that day. Yet Evokar was in a moment of loss, a literal loss of moment he might say. How was it nothing stopped? How everything kept going as if nothing changed, but everything did? How could everything go on? Evokar couldn't cope at first, he was already revealed for being soft at heart, not true to the ways of War Forge, he was what many called a flower prancer. Though his gift of plant manipulation did not help his case. He was viewed as weak, and though he tried to be strong, he was nothing like the rest of War Forge, but Azeroth said, maybe that was what the herd needed, something different, something more like Evokar. Those words kept Evokar going, kept him moving forwards to make the herd a better place, to make sure every voice was heard... Every voice was heard... He paused. He wasn't doing that now, that was for sure. Being kept inside hidden from the world, who would hear them now? A soft and shaky sigh escaped from his lips. Brace the winds and the towering mountains that loomed over him. He had to go out there, stop hiding away like a frightened foal of the howling winds. He was more then that. With a soft snort and shaky start he got up on all four and soon was out the door heading to a place where it all should begin. Fox. He had remembered her vaguely. She most spoke to Azeroth, and let him know what was happening, she was the inside equine letting Azeroth know what he could do to change things. Many times Evokar could recall Azeroth taking things into his own hooves. He was beyond loyal to the herd, there was nothing he wouldn't do for the herd. As he moved outside the icy wind awoke his sense, like a swift kick to his side, he felt the icy air burn his lungs. Yes this was home this was War Forge. With out a second to spare Evokar was speeding off racing towards the place where Fox resumed in. A few moments, and him breathing a bit heavily, he waited outside her him, before giving the entrance and few knocks. Letting who ever was inside be aware someone was outside awaiting for them. Fox | War-Forged | Scout
"Fox! Someone's here for you." She grunted, rolling over on her bed. Now? She wasn't expecting anyone. She started to yell back, "Tell them to come back-" Wait. Her new supervisor. She totally forgot. She sprang out of bed, shaking off sleep, and tried to tame her hair. A morning of lounging around, and she was hardly suitable for public appearances. Good lord, I'm a mess. She snorted, pulling her chin up and straightening her legs. She needed to make the best first impression. She'd been waiting to hear from her new superior after Azeroth's death, but for awhile had heard nothing from the War Lord's fortress. She had grown to love the older stallion as a comrade, a friend, a confidant... and like mist, suddenly he was blown away in the wind. She had grieved with the rest of his family & friends, shedding silent tears the entire day of his passing ceremony. It was hard, but she was no stranger to death. As Kaia brought life forth, she also took away. She walked past her father to the door & opened it, trying to muster her most confident smile. Amber eyes looked up, back at her. Evokar. She knew him slightly, from afar. Mostly knew him through the rumors and the taunts whispered behind closed doors about the sensitive stallion. It was easy to join in the teasing, of course. At least at first, until she heard of Azeroth's praise of Evokar. He always seemed sweet, if a little cowardly. Wasn't seen brawling or yelling like so many other brutes in the herd. But she should have expected him at her doorstep and not another member of the Stone Circle. The next in line, the "apprentice" to the great late stallion. Made sense. It was just a surprise to see him up close- he usually stayed under the radar. Never knew his eyes were so stunningly flame-licked, for one. She smiled sweetly and dipped her head to her knees. "Good afternoon, Evokar. How can I serve you?"

Evokar || Stone Circle
A soft mist escaped his nostrils, as he let out a shaky breath, of course he was a bit nervous, was it wrong to be so? He had seen so many others rush into things with the confidence of a young colt that knew nothing of fear. In times he was envious of such things, wishing he too could carry that confidence about him. Though with a bit of luck, he carried his own personality about him. As the door opened, he stood straight, yet a soft smile was on his features. Oh yes, just from a mere glance as the the unicorn, it was clear to see he was nothing like the thick stallions that roam War Forge.
Eyes looked to Fox, and his smile seemed to show brighter. "Fox." he remarked softly before dipping his head politely at her. "I am sorry we never truly got to meet face to face before now, and under such circumstances." he spoke gently, though a twinge of sadness lingered in his voice. "I am here in hopes to figure out a good routine for us as well as try to catch up on everything that may have happened that my ears may not have caught." as he spoke he flickered his curled ears towards her. He chuckled gently, and despite the sadness that had engulfed him like an avalanche, being out here, doing something good, well it was if he was breathing fresh air for the first time in many moons.
"Though if you are busy we can plan another time, I know I have put this off for quite a bit, and do offer my sincerest apologize towards you and any inconveniences I may have caused you and your work, Fox." he dipped his head once more, before rising back upwards and getting a good look at her for the first time. Looking to her, he noticed the spots on her lips, and how her face almost looked as if fresh snow had fallen all over it. She was indeed a gorgeous equine. Evokar though found beauty in most things, and still finds it even in those that many believe beauty would never touch. But that was foolish to think such things. Where ever it maybe on this lands, there was beauty there, if only one sought out for it. Like many things, equine tended to notice the bad more then the good, Evokar tried to be the one to notice more good then bad, but even he failed at that in times.

Fox | War-Forged | Scout Kind.He had a different energy about him. Unlike the heavy testosterone stallions she was so accustomed to, Evokar had an aura of peace about him. She knew he must have grieved harder than anyone else over Azeroth, and at that thought her heart twisted in sympathy. She imagined him weeping silently for long nights until tears ran dry. But from the moment she opened the door, her own spastic and rushed energy dissipated. His eyes were level, cool. His movements were slow and deliberate. She decided that she liked him already. "Such unfortunate circumstances," she agreed. "I do not blame you for the time taken; grief has no deadline. Please do not apologize for that." Spoken from experience, her subconscious whispered. She looked over her shoulder. Though she couldn't see her parents from where she stood, she knew they were listening like the nosy overbearing guardians they always were. "Maybe we should take a walk, get some fresh air. It's a nice day for such. We can discuss our new situation." She wiggled past Evokar, out the door, to get out of her parents' earshot. She stumbled awkwardly over her own hooves trying to dance around him and promptly bumped him on the shoulder. Smooth. She blushed. "I'm so sorry, excuse me. Clumsy mare." She shut the door behind her. "I haven't received a mission lately, I assume with the reorganization of our positions I've been put on hold for the time being." She suddenly realized how terribly awkward it was to talk around the death of a mutual friend when the two were not friends themselves. She pulled her ears back. "I apologize if I tread too strongly, this is such a sensitive time. Azeroth... he always remarked on my tendency to be forthright."
She was the first to speak his name between them. It had gone unsaid, a fact too bitterly real to need acknowledging, but now the name felt like cotton in her mouth and she wondered if she was speaking too casually about him. If Evokar would take offense. She cleared her throat. "But our herd goes on, and our duties go on."

Evokar || Stone Circle
A faint rise in his brow, he was a bit shocked at her response about grieving. In all honesty, he assumed she would repel against it, could see his sorrows and condemn him to weakness forever in her eyes. So many others have done it, but Evokar of course tried his best to not dwell on such things. "Thank you Fox." he nodded faintly, he smiled to her, and found some sort of peace, maybe for once it was nice to have an actual conversation and not put on a front. To try to be what everyone yelled for him to be. Though Evokar would never be a raider or the fighting type. No, he much prefered the defense route, something his new gift had only made it easier for him.
Her mentioning of a walk, perked his interest, as he longed for the outside world to lavish in the soft kisses of heat from the sun. Yes, that was indeed a lovely idea. "Sounds like a marvelous idea. I could use the walk, I've been coped up with work I haven't gotten out much." He chuckled a bit, though as she tried to squeeze through, he wasn't exactly sure why he didn't move to make more, room, or perhaps he was lost in thought. As she stumbled a bit, he felt her bump into him and soon she was apologizing, yet it followed with an insult to herself. Ears twitched lightly at that last statement 'Clumsy Mare' Evokar honestly had to wonder, was the quick insult to herself was because of how stallions in the herd viewed mares? Many still clung to the old ways till their last breath. Yet before he could say something, she was quick with words and the moment was lost, just like that. He listened to her speak as soon he urged them both to take a stroll out to where the two could talk more easily.
A faint pause happened as she spoke his name. Azeroth. A name he had screamed and sobbed out. Odd how a name could hold so much power, though he treaded onwards regardless. It felt odd to hear his name slip between the lips of someone else. "I am quite sorry that everything has been put on hold for you, I'll be sure that everything will be back in order as soon as possible for you." he smiled softly, as always. He was always friendly, and others said a bit dreamy, not in the handsome way, just more of in the way of how he was. "Azeroth has spoken very warmly of you, and he valued you words, no need to tread lightly with them around me. If anything we all adapt, we always have." He looked to her as they walked and was feeling more alive with each step, with each ray of sun that hit his form. Yes, this was what he needed. "So Fox, in your time off, have you caught word of anything troubling at all happening? I've been away for far to long from current matters honestly." He sighed almost a bit shamefully. He did of course feel guilty, and he rather not deal with the Stone Circle with knowing little to nothing. He can only imagine how they would all react to it.

Fox | War-Forged Scout
"Azeroth has spoken very warmly of you." She blushed at this. That was nice of Azeroth to say, rest his soul. Honestly she had considered herself an annoying gnat in the late stallion's ear, chatting about this and that. She wished she could thank him.
The sun was glinting off Evokar's coat like copper & cream. It was a warm day, with bees and other insects buzzing in the grasses swishing past their legs. She was instinctively leading him into the the hills and riverbeds at the foot of the mountains, a short walk from her house. They weren't far from Skeldr Town, but the busy town seemed like the wrong context for conversation. The landscape's soft hills sloped languidly around them, sunbathing like lazy cats. It was peaceful, and private, and Kaia's green earth always seemed to welcome them.
She noticed something odd on his tongue. He had been cooped away with work, but not in touch with the Stone Circle? She wondered if he was all right, but decided against prodding. They were new comrades and that was a topic too personal.
So she was quiet. Unlike herself on most days, but first impressions were important and she dared not mess this up. And he hardly seemed like the talkative type, from what she'd heard of him. His long legs had broad strides, and she found herself speed-walking to keep up.
At his question, she cocked her head, one ear flopping sideways. It was quiet for a second while she thought. "You know what. I've been devoid of jobs the past few weeks, but I did hear rumors of a herder with a fence down & loose apanas in the Farmlands. About an hour's walk from here."
She looked at him in the eye, raising her chin. He was almost a full hand taller than her. "If you are free this afternoon, we could investigate the situation? I believe I know the poor herder who lost them. He's an older stallion, a bit forgetful." She giggled softly. "A dear old stallion, though. Has herded here for decades."
She did a little jig and let out a buck. The sun was energizing her like pure food & drink. She grew more excited, and her voice more rushed. "I know how to get there, I've been to the Farmlands a million times on different missions, I don't know if you've been there? But if not then it would be good to know the route. There are some places Vagabonds like to hang out, and I prefer to avoid them if possible, especially if I'm on my own. What do you say?"

Evokar || Stone Circle || War Forged
Eyes followed her movement, there was a rhythm in her, he longed to find that song within her. The way she seemed to get more and more alive with each hoofstep. Yes, she was a breath of fresh air, with the rhythm of the wilds bloomed within her. Though as she talked, he couldn't help. but close his eyes for a moment, letting her voice be something he'd grow more accustomed to. Eyes opened a bit as he looked to her and nodded her head. "Yes, lets go. Best I do something with a bit more meaning into it." he chuckled a bit.
Evokar nodded to her once more, yes that was something he needed to do and quickly. He needed to learn everyone's face here in the herd. To get it down to a T. Yes, his face would be well known to others as well as everyone to him. He refused to be someone that awaited for trouble to find them. He would seek others out, keep up with them all. Sure the herd was vast and large, but he was part of the Stone Circle, he was their voice, when their own could not be heard.
As she spoke, he nodded along to what she said, and he felt the heat rise to his cheeks, he knew nothing of this herder nor the bets path to take there. There was so much he head to learn and he wasted many a day in his own home grieving in peace. Far too long, in all honesty. Azeroth would not have liked it. Ears flicked downwards more. "Sadly I don't know much of the path or the way to go. Or much about any of this" he mused gently. "But yes, lets go. It's best I start to learn everyone's name and know their faces. As well as get my own face out their to them. Forgive me, for being a bit of green horn Fox. I'll get the hang of it." He watched her do a small jig and buck and he couldn't help but laugh in joy and shake his mane. Was this what it was like to be born with the wilds in ones heart? If so, he had to admit he was quiet envious. "Lead the way Fox, I'll keep up." He chuckled a bit, it was hard to tell, was there a bit of a challenge in his voice at that remark. Though of course he was testing the notes to a song, just seeing how well the song would play out. Now it was time would the duet to respond or the wind carry the song away.

His laugh was hearty, like the low songs of frogs and birds in the summer. Fox leaned into the sound- it was comforting.
He seemed.... embarrassed? She could hear him stammer a bit when he admitted not knowing the way around the land. But if they were going to be work partners, she wanted to reassure him. She tilted her head to look at him steadily with one eye.
"That is okay, Evokar," she spoke softly. "I'm sure you have plenty of knowledge of more important things than the way of the land. I'm just a rambler." She chuckled at her own words. "Both in speech and on foot, it seems."
She smiled and bumped her nose on his shoulder. "You are okay."
- - -
She led the way, parading with her tail held high at the chance to show him the steps to the Farmlands. It was rare she had a traveling companion, except when someone at the Fortress required a Raider go with her for x, y or z reason, and they all seemed so dull and overeager to prove their masculinity to her. As if she were wet behind the ears- ha! She knew the hills better than their bulky hides ever would.
The sun dipped slightly on their trek. Slowly, the landscape flattened from rolling hillsides to flat fields and smaller clumps of woods. The air was slightly saltier here, to the trained nose. The wind from the ocean to the east swept easily over the farmlands, blanketing the air with the nuance of far-away seas. It was exhilarating to smell the salted air- Fox would never tire of it.
After a while of what seemed like aimless wandering (to the untrained), the pair waded through a small stream and the sight of a small cabin came into view about a half-mile away. Old fencing clung to itself around the property, held up by sheer will.
"There," she said, shaking her mane. "That belongs to the stallion- his name is Barnabas, if I remember correctly."
They walked over and Fox tapped lightly on the door. Rusty hinges squeaked with each tap, threatening to disintegrate on the spot.

Evokar || Stone Circle
"Oh I feel like knowing the land is quiet important. I consider myself luck to have a partner such as yourself." He nodded to her, there was no lie in his words, he had no reason to really lie. "Speak as much as you like, I wouldn't mind a bit. I don't think you ramble at all." In all honesty he enjoyed listening to her talk, how she was different then others he had spoken too. There was no aggression, no sound of disappoint. No, it was like a melody, a song. Surely to made birds wish to carry such a tune, to him it was magical. Yet all she was doing was treating him as an equal nothing less and nothing more.
Soon the pair was off and he followed along side of her, he took in the sights and he wished he had been out here more. He's been prepping for so much, that he had forgotten the smoothed out lands, how it could look like an ocean before him. Sure there was little to no wooded areas, but it allowed one to get swept away by the lands. How easily everything could change, if only one had the courage to move forwards. Yet soon they were before the small cabin and Fox spoke to him and he nodded his head allowing him to remember name and soon to be face. As she knocked, they paused for a moment, before shuffling was heard.
With a creaking noise, the door opened up and there was the older stallion Barnabas. Face was turning white and once could easily see he was getting along in age. "Well lookie here." his voice was rough and gravel like, but yet there was a warmness to it. It was as if they were family he had not seen in decades. "I suppose your here for my fence and my missing Apana?" he raised a bushy brow, a part of him wondering if it was that or maybe something else? Was something else wrong? He snorted faintly and shook his head, it was best to not start questioning everything.
"Well come along come along. I'm getting a bit old ya see? Knees just aint what they used to be, but those dang Apana, can climb up rocks, like mountain goats." he shook his head as he soon lead the way towards where the part of his fence was broken down, but it was patched up roughly. "Aint the best at this anymore ya know?" he smiled a bit though was there really a retirement for War Forge, each horse had to pull their own weight. "This is where they all got out, and they are a few scattered out there. A mama and her twin babes. I tried looking, hollering for them, but I get so tuckered out and the flock needs me. Well I just gotta say thank you for helping an old man like myself out. Gotta say Kaia is watching over me still." he laughed a good ole laugh, the kind straight from the belly. "I hope you can find them, if you can't well that's alright too. I just don't feel right leaving them out there." he sighed as he looked outwards.
Evokar was perhaps a bit to soft, the kind to take it all to heart, but this was why he was in his position, he would be their voice... He would help the herd because to him everyone mattered regardless of what others saw. He perhaps felt softer on those he could relate too, to those that may be deemed as misfits in the herd. "Well Barnabas, I have to say, you've done our herd so well over these years, if we can't find her, I'll be sure you get paid for the loss." he smiled to him and dipped his head gently to him. Evokar wouldn't let there be waste, he wouldn't let things be just bad luck, not when he could do something to amend it. Eyes looked to Fox and smiled brightly. "Well I never had to herd Apana, before, but if you're ready, I am." he chuckled a bit. Evokar made a faint note to himself to think her. Fox reminded him of what all there could be outside waiting for him, if only he had the courage to take the first step. He would have to repay her in some shape or forum.

Fox loved the way the elderly War-Forged were so pragmatic. She and Evokar were strangers to Barnabas, but before the door even finished opening, the stallion was ushering them to the fence and rambling about their aid. Another horse might have been irritated, but Fox found it charming. After all, Barnabas was among a generation that saw the rise and fall of a few War Lords, watched the land change over decades, and worked an honest day’s work- for years and years. He knew that chit-chat was useless and productivity was golden. Fox thought he was adorable.
And she suppressed a giggle- surely Evokar, a stranger to the common citizens of Onea, was feeling a bit out of place with the prospect of herding livestock today.
But the stallion seemed eager. She turned to him. “I’m ready.” To Barnabas, she dipped her head (assuming an old geezer like him would appreciate a subservient mare.) “We will do our best, Barnabas. The wilderness is no place for a new mother and her babies.” She blew her forelock out of her eyes. “Do you know what direction they’ve gone in? Just as a place to start."
Barnabas let out a low whistle, thinking. “Lessee, last I saw they were scrambling east with the rest of the herd. Those babies can’t get very far on those rickety legs of theirs, they can’t have gone too far, to the ocean or anything.” He furrowed his brows. “I wouldn’t stay out too late looking for ‘em, I appreciate ya’ll being here but I wouldn’t wantcha to cross the wrong path, if you know what I mean.”
Fox stood close to Evokar. “Absolutely, sir.”
- - -
“If I knew an apana call, I would use it.” she snorted as they walked away. “But unfortunately I have little experience with the animals. I hardly know what they sound like.”
They waded through a small creek on the edge of Barnabas’s property, the water softly splashing up their legs on onto their bellies. She began to think. “But I do know they’re herd animals, and a mama with her babies will want to be in a group rather than alone. I suspect they’re not too far off, but probably skittish.” She stopped walking and looked around. Sloping hills on every side. The sun was poised mid-sky, giving them most of the afternoon before absolutely needing to head back to Skeldr Town.
It was humorously empty, the landscape before them. Apart from the buzz of bees and cicadas, and the ruffling of long grasses, things were quiet. The land was teasing them.
“It seems so easy, since it’s so flat here, to find a lost animal. But I have a feeling they’re like weasels when isolated. My ermine, Georgia, gets scared in strange places, even if I’m there- she’ll run and hide from me. Me!” She laughed. “Little brat, sometimes. Do you have a familiar?"

Evokar || Stone Circle || War Forge
Eyes met the stallions, he kept his eyes on him as the old fellow spoke. He would give him all his attention trying his best to absorb all this information. He never knew the lower parts of the land. Or at least that was what many would call this. Being a herder was not a glorious job, they say any fool could do it, but Evokar was pretty sure he couldn't ever do this job. He admired the old stallion for even in his old age, dip back and all he still continued to do his work, without much complaining. His gratefulness to both Fox and himself warmed his soul a bit more. Yes, this was why he took up this job, was why he followed the steps of his mentor. There was a peace in him when helping others out, giving them hope and a smile. Surely that was more rewarding then he had ever expected.
Evokar followed suit with Fox and couldn't help but chuckle at her mention trying to give out an Apana call. "Well I can only imagine you doing a grand job." he chuckled her teasing her a bit as the moved forwards. "Im in the same snow drift as you, I don't know much about them, or even what noises they make. What a pair aye?" he smiled to her lightly as they continued onwards. He listened to Fox mention how they would be skittish, and what would a lost mom do in this scenario? Well first thought would be is to find someplace safe. A nook or cranny, somewhere where she can guard her babes and stay out of sight. That would be his thought. "Maybe they found a safe place to hide away? Surely if one looses their sense of direction it can be a bit frightening." he remarked the last bit softly. Eyes glanced to her as she remarked about an Ermine, it made him smile all the more. "I know what you mean." he shook his mane a bit, thinking of his dear little companion, his anchor to reality at times. "I have my own familiar..." he paused for a moment. Ears flickering back a bit, as he watched his words, not many were impressed with his familiar choice. A small speckled rabbit. Many stallions wanted something a bit more useful or fierce. He was ridiculed of course. He was no stranger to such things, yet for some reason... He didn't want to come off as pathetic to her, not some sad stallion. He sighed a bit as he looked forwards now, as if too nervous to meet her gaze. "I have a snow hare, a speckled one to be exact. Her name is Margaret. She is gentle and soft. Timid yet curious. She is a friend to all, a real blessing. " he chuckled a bit.
Head was about to tilt in her direction, but a sound broke the silence, a single howl, soon followed by others, and his ears perked forwards as the sounds were coming before him. "The Apanas..." he whispered out. Evokar moved forwards they had to react quickly, who knew if the poor Apanas were even alive, were they already dead? Or did the wolves howl for something else? Evokar looked over to see if Fox was following suit as well.

"A rabbit?!" she squealed, grinning like a child. "That's adorable." It partially surprised her that a prominent member of society had a small mammal as a familiar instead of a bird-of-prey or carnivore or something, but then again it was Evokar, and it didn't surprise her one bit.
Plus, she could sense he was insecure admitting that fact. Poor guy. She drew a breath, ready to chat more about Georgia and how their familiars could be playmates sometime-
But like ice, howls suddenly pierced the air and the breath and blood drained from Fox's face. She looked at Evokar- he heard them too, and was already stepping forward, into action. She processed things out loud, vocally, but this stallion carried things inside. By the time she had registered what was going on, he had already assessed the situation and was taking action. "The Apanas," he whispered, and that was all he said.
What an interesting fellow, she surmised. She stepped along with him briskly, ready to follow where he led. Her Tremor Sense could find large animals pounding the ground, but swift wolves carried no weight and she wouldn't be able to find them alone.
Not that she really wanted to find them.
"I pray they're only wolves and not Gytrash..." she trailed off, remembering the not-so-long-ago Night of Bloodletting. Gytrash were wolves with the creepy factor intensified a hundredfold. She'd prefer to never see them again.
And then they heard a sharp canine shriek, and a bleating cry. "Shit!" Fox muttered, then realized she just swore in front of her boss. "Sorry," she ceded, but there wasn't time for long apologies. She sprung into a long-strided canter toward a dense treeline.
All her instincts (and her complete lack of preparation for combat) screamed at her to turn around, but like hell she was going to be a coward in front of Evokar, on their first day together. She had to maintain her competent image- even if she didn't feel competent at all.
The sound of scuffling and the heartbreaking cries of an animal in pain led them to a thick oak, where the mother Apana and baby were pressed against the tree. A wolf- not Gytrash, thank Kaia above- was snapping at them from the perimeter. The mother had a bleeding foreleg but was kicking out with her rear legs anytime the canine came too close. One clock to the head and the wolf could be out cold, but they were equally matched, and no one was winning.
And Fox froze, because she realized she didn't think her plan through, and had no idea on earth how to fight off a wolf. Out of the corner of her eye, she looked at Evokar, praying he had a better idea.

Evokar || Stone Circle || War-Forged
Her words echoed in his mind, I pray its not a Gytrash. A cold dread of worry settled down on his spine, making him wondering if going in like they were was really the smartest idea, but his heart was beating rapidly. With the howl of the wolf, he felt the need to move, to go near and try to save the fragile life. As the moved onwards it was there they spotted the wolf and the apana family. Brow furrowed his mind racing, he could see the mother was wounded and both would fight till one was dead. Yet another sense of dread kept nipping at the back of his mind. Wolves don't normally work alone, they are more pack animals, that much he knew. He had heard of wolves taking out herds of Apana to shepherds that couldn't manage them out in the wilds.
Evokar looked and he knew he should have a plan, something his mind eating away and his eyes looked at everything and then the tree, the tree. Gods, be good the tree. Evokar let out a deep sigh, his body turning from tense to relax, and looked to Fox. "Keep an eye out for me, watch out for more wolves and if you get the chance, get them out if you can." he offered her a light smile before his attention turned back to the tree and the wolf. Eyes focused on the tree and suddenly his eyes seemed to glaze over as if lost in another world. In a way he was, he called out to the life source the tree, he spoke gently to it asking for help, to allow it have a moment of its large life span to save one with another's. The tree seemed to oblige and soon Evokar was in control, roots moved from its anchor as it seeked out the wolf from above, roots erupted from the ground and wrapped around a leg of the wolf, making it cry out in fright before its jaws began to try and tear at its roots, yet more roots erupted upwards and wrapped around more of the wolf's legs.
Yet what seemed to be a mere blessing, could it possibly be a curse in disguise? Flowers were easy to manipulate, it didnt allow his vision to go clouded like this, yet a might tree, his vision was dark he saw nothing from his own body as he moved through the roots of the tree, moving it to his will. As the wolf was captured and being held to its place, the wolf let out a howl, a last resort. As its howl ended...
Three howls replied. They're coming.

She felt it before she saw it.
The earth deep, deep below her newborn feet began to churn and twist. An earthquake? The soles of her hooves tightened instinctively, she planted herself firmly on Kaia's green earth. The surface ground rattled, pebbles and sticks trembling lightly. Strange. The wolf even stopped its snapping, ears perked to the oak, staring wide-eyed. Fox looked to Evokar to gauge his reaction.
He was gone. Still there physically, of course, but his eyes were transfixed on the tree, or the space right in front of his eyes, Fox couldn't tell. Lost to the world. His brow was furrowed in concentration although he moved not a hair. Slack-jawed, it dawned on her as gracefully as a kick to the face.
He was doing this!
The ground roared. Roots sprung up as if they were marionette puppets, snaring the wolf with creaks and groans. The dog yelped and Fox instinctively scrambled back.
She couldn't help but shake. Who was this stallion who summoned mighty forces to do his bidding? Who was this stranger? Evokar the quiet. That’s how she had always seen him. Never in a million years would she have guessed he could do this. It wasn't fear she felt- no, it was humility, awe, a righteous terror. Suddenly brought before awesome power took her mind to its knees. She tried to cease her hide from quivering, but it was no use, she was a trembling mess. Her heart pounded harder than the thundering of a hundred Raiders.
Get ahold of yourself, mare, she muttered. She had so many questions- too many for a day, for a week, for a year- but the hollow echo of three wolf cries in the background brought her back to earth. There was no time to dwell on the stallion’s magic. She watched for him to come back to earth, and his eyes to cease their glazed-over appearance.
“Quick, let’s run,” she said, shaking off her amazement. “The mother should follow if I have her baby, and the tiny thing can’t run fast enough to keep up with us.” She snatched the baby apana by its scruff. It cried out pitifully in surprise, a sad bleat that tore Fox’s heartstrings. It was heavier than she thought, and she wouldn’t be able to carry it in her mouth for long. They just had to get far enough to get out of the wolves’ range.
The mother huffed and snorted, nipping Fox on the hocks. She turned on her heel and started cantering away, careful not to jostle the infant in her grip. She turned to see if the apana and Evokar were following.

Evokar || Stone Circle || War-Forged
The howl never hit his ears, he was lost in a world unlike any other. A world where feelings weren't simplified down to anger of hurt, but something so much more. It was unexplainable, but in these moments when he was swept awya into something else, he could easily see the danger of this gift. The rush the thrill, to be something no one could ever dare dream to be. He could feel his life pulse through the roots, felt the anguish of the roots being torn by the wolf. Though even in this slumber like state, a voice called out to him. The roots remained locked on the wolf, as larger ones built up to ensure the wolf would stay put. Brow was furrowed, as his brow sweat with concentration. He never manipulated anything like this for this long, what seemed like mere minutes, felt like life times. The passing between life force could never be measured by mere measuring. It was something new and unexplainable.
Yet the voice called out once more. Ears flicked a bit. Someone was trying to speak to him? But who? He couldn't recall, memories and sense intermingled with the tree, he had seen so much experienced snow storms that killed a young buck at its root. Oh how it had eaten well that year, yet this wasn't right. It wasn't his life. Brows furrowed and he made a slow blink, and he gasped for air before shaking his head and his eyes looked more lively now. Sweat seemed to drip from his brow as he looked to Fox. He felt a moment of disorientation. Evokar shook his head once more, and looked forwards the wolf remained ensnarled by roots and eyes looked tot he tree, the mom and babe remained there. "Good" He breathed out as he wanted to drop to his knees to lay in the grass and breath. This was life, this was his own.
Yet in those brief moments Fox was on the move, she snatched the babe and the mother, though a bit hurt was following after Fox determind to keep that babe alive regardless. Evokar was impressed, and nodded as he watched Fox, she was quick and wild that one. That was something he knew for sure. She though took things a bit differently, was something he found all the more intriguing about her. She was a bit like a book, the cover was pretty and the first page seemed to leave you guessing. She was a mystery, a song, she was indeed a curious thing. A howl was heard from the longing hills behind and there three dark colored wolves were seen. Though Evokar couldnt see them well, he was sure they were snarling, teeth pearly white. The wolf ensnarled by roots began snapping its jaws wildly as if seeing its pack gave it energy like no other. Evokar looked to them and snorted as he reared up a bit in a threatening manner. But soon turned tail and followed after Fox, he remained behind the mother Apana. "Run Fox, they'll come upon us quickly." he urged her as he tried to encourage the mother Apana to move swiftly. Surely they could make it come before the wolves, right? Snarling was heard behind them, how many though? Evokar dared not to see how quickly these beast would be at them.

So... heavy...
How could something as small as an apana lamb suddenly feel like dead weight in her grip? Her mouth wasn't built to carry things, and her jaw ached as it locked in place. Even the assistance of her telekinesis wasn't helping- the cantering made it hard to focus. She'd have to stop soon or she'd drop the lamb from mere muscle weakness.
And as if that wasn't enough-
Like a low crash, thunder rolled from the eastern cliffs. She glanced up. The sky was partly cloudy, the sun partially hidden behind a cottony cloud, but these storms rolled in from the coast quick as a gliding hawk. In no time they could have a downpour upon them.
Kaia above, let the storm go south.... her thoughts trailed. Didn't they have enough on their plate? And they were miles from home, from Skeldr Town.
Was Evokar here? She flashed her eyes behind her, looking for his copper-and-cream frame. Yes, he was galloping too, calling something out to her. She couldn't hear anything above the roaring in her ears. He was pushing the mother apana along, who herself was looking very irritated with the strangers.
Wait, yes, she heard that. The snarling and snapping of canine teeth. One ear flicked back. Their paces were silent, but their growls were not. How many could she hear, two? Three?
She had to make a fast move or she'd lose the lamb to the ground pulsing beneath her. She moved into a steady gallop and veered right, into thick brushes and trees.
Snare them, Evokar, snare them. She wanted to cry. She had no defenses or offenses. Just her own soft, unshod feet and a crying lamb.
Her best bet would be to leave the lamb and head out to fight the wolves, but was that feasible? Who knew what other predators waited to grab the little thing.

Evokar || Stone Circle || War-Forged
His heart pounded against his chest as he saw Fox glance back and even she looked weary. They were still away from where they needed to be and no one was moving fast enough. Kaia have mercy, he begged within his mind, sending a quick pray to Kaia, surely this mission was, but a mere test? Kaia was always testing her warriors her thought, like Hira. Testing them and see if they were made of stuff of legend. To see if they could survive where many equine refuse to make home. Ears pinned back to his skull as he heard the snapping of wolves and their growling, yet the moved so swift. How did they get so close? He wanted to shout to himself.
He watched as Fox lead the team and he followed after her, one less thing his mind have to deal with. His mind swirled and twirled with thoughts with plans. Fox was quick and nimble on her hooves, he thought as she made a veer and was running into a more wooded area, bushes and trees. His heart hammered, as his saw the plants, his gift his power, but gods be good how long could he endure. His legs felt weak and wobbly already, he pushed himself to far this time. Yet surely just a bit more, just another push. Something to give them but a few more seconds. Gods be good, don't let anyone die today.
Legs surged forwards, his hooves pounding on the ground as he rushed forwards to jump over a bush. He skidded to a fault and snorted. Eyes looked to the wolves that were gaining speed and his mind focused on the bush this time, something smaller. "Keep going Fox, get them out of here. I'll be right behind you shortly" He called out to her, not giving her chance to reply before he was deep in thought. He worried to much the tree would be the tip of the iceberg to send him to a cold grave. Eyes looked onto the wolves as he let out one steady breath. Heart and mind flooded into the bush and suddenly the roots were spreading out the and bush was growing as well. At an unnatural rate he tried his best to make a wall between them and he prayed Fox and the mother continued to move forwards. The roots spread up and entangled a wolf, but one was down and two took its place. Sweat dripped from his brow, gods he was tired.
He was no warrior and he never regretted it more than now. He wish he knew something, to fight, to take down a beast that's thought is to to bite his throat and lock down until not a single breath could leave its prays mouth. Body shook, he was tired, so tired. But roots erupted from the ground snagging another one as the bush grew onto it, trying to keep it down. His knees buckled and he was down, and his breath was heavy. All he could do was say her name, but what good would it do if she was fleeing away with the babe and mother in tow. Still he called out her name. "Fox." Evokars front knees were down to the ground and the wolf was at the bush snapping its jaws as it tried to get through and to feast upon the feeble. While the two other wolves were snarling trying their damnedest to break free. You're a fool, Evokar.

Thunder rumbled in the distance, and she squeezed her eyes shut for a moment to regroup.
In that second, if she hadn't been so objectively observant, if she had even breathed too hard to drown out the faint noises on the wind, she might not have heard the cry that raised with the thunder. The crashing thunder loud and powerful like the screams of warriors, the other sound meek and faint like a small songbird.
"Fox."
She whipped her head around, and her eyes grew wide. Evokar was on his knees, looking battered and worn like he had slain a thousand foes. He shook like a leaf and sweat pooled on his neck and shoulders.
He had the wolves tethered behind him and she suddenly understood the exertion it took him to conjure the flora from the earth. It could kill him. It had never occurred to her, in all her years of familiarity with the plant manipulation blessing, that it took physical strength. She considered it akin to waving a magic wand, not pulling roots from the earth's core.
And then she couldn't hold back the tears of frustration, of anger, of desperation, and as she dropped the fawn to its mother and lunged in his direction, they stung the corners of her eyes. Like hell he would know death here, like hell he would be left alone here.
He was her supervisor now, and she felt a weird sense of guilt and embarrassment. She dragged him out here on his first real scouting mission, and he ended up like this? She wouldn't be surprised if upon regaining lucidity he hated her, never wanted to see her again, wanted to avoid all the bad luck she could bring.
"Let go!" she called to him, voice dry. Was he "holding" the foliage in place? She didn't know how the blessing worked, if he held things there or only stimulated their growth. Either way he had to release his grip.
Held hostage by branches, the two snared wolves were easy targets. She bashed their heads in, nausea rolling when she felt the crack of bone under her hooves. There's a reason you're not a Valkyrie. She leapt over the wall fending off the loose one. Three on the ground were too many, but one? One could be dealt with.
Three seconds flat, and the final wolf lay dead in the dirt.
She panted, sweating, shaking. She leapt back over to where the stallion lay, nosing him on the cheek. His body looked broken, pushed beyond its limit.
Out of the corner of her eye, a few yards away, the mother apana was licking the lamb furiously. Stay there, Fox prayed. Just don't run. Just stay there for a few more minutes.
Her voice was low and quiet.
"Evokar, it's over. You're okay."
She ran her nose along the crest of his neck, tousling his mane softly.
"You're okay."

Evokar || War Forge || Stone Circle
Gods only knew how this would all play out, he almost didnt care, as he kept his hold on the plants and could feel the roots of the plants near him take hold of his front legs. It was easy to succumb to the sweet whispering of the plants, let them make a feast. Yet a voice awakened his senses, and his eyes shot open. Let Go, the voice said to him and as if on command, he released his hold on everything. The plants remain where they were, as he urged them to grow and move, yet he no longer made them stand firm but could now be swayed by the winds. Fox was quick as lightning, her strikes just as fast. Soon they threat and danger was gone, and Evokar merely laid down, his breathing heavy as he closed his eyes, trying to regain himself.
A touch on him almost made him flinch in response, not used to much contact of the sort in all honesty. He opened his eyes and say Fox beside him, telling him it was okay, tussling his mane, yes this was nice he thought absentmindedly. Yet he merely nodded to her and smiled a bit. "Well this was something else." he remarked chuckling fainting, as his body still heaved with each breath, though they couldnt stay like this for to long, Evokar rather not think about what else may lay out here in the woods. Wolves, lynxes, bears and that was just a few numbers of what could lurk about. Shaking his head and neck, Evokar sucked in his breath and suddenly he was up on wobbly legs, letting out a deep breath. It was gonna be okay, he'd just want to sleep it off... for a few days or so. "Thank you Fox, you were quick.. I don't know what I would do without you." he remarked smiling as he meant every word he spoke. No anger or resentment was held in his voice. He was never the type to blame a bad situation on someone. Things happened and sometimes, it was no ones fault. "Are you okay?" he asked with a sense of urgency as it registered that, yes Fox indeed was the one out there fighting wolves, and his worried eyes looked about her, trying to eye any wound or anything that would be of an issue.
Evokar was feeling a bit like himself as he stood there, lifting a leg every now and then to assure he could still bend them. Eyes looked outwards and spotted the Apana's and he smiled as he watched the two reunited safely. It was a good feeling, and it made all of this in a way worth it. Life was valuable here in the snowy mountains. Not everyone was made out to survive here, but with Kaia's grace they all have made this their home. "Best we head back, I think we've had enough of an adventure today." he smiled trying to make light of the situation. He nipped at her ear gently, in a friendly manner, before taking a slow pace back to the Apanas.

She blew a breath of relief when he stirred, a breath she didn’t know she was holding.
“This was something else,” he said. She could only laugh, merry that the danger was gone, that they were okay, that he was okay. His following words were kind, appreciative, and all fears of a dislike of her faded away. He was a good guy and an understanding gentleman. Nothing that had happened was her fault, but the guilt had weighed heavily on her. Like a sudden cool breeze Evokar lifted her doubts away.
“I’m fine,” she said. It was mostly true. She had a few sore scrapes on her fetlocks but nothing that a full day and good sleep wouldn’t heal.
“Not all scouting missions are like this, I promise.” She paused. “Actually, they rarely are. Most are boring, just walking over hills and streams and sometimes into the mountains. As I certainly expected this one to be.” She looked over to the apanas, still in their same spot, now grazing. “I agree, it’s time to go home."
She led the trek back since she knew the way with the apanas straddled between her and Evokar. Together they kept the pair from wandering off, herding them back over spreads of farmland until Barnabas’s house could be seen in the distance. She refrained from telling the old stallion all that had happened- it wasn’t necessary, and she was tired- and before long the apanas were tucked away in their herd and they bid goodbye to the old farmer.
Fox looked ahead. The sun was drifting downward, beginning to cast long shadows through the mountains and into the flatlands. The rainstorm that had threatened them blew past without shedding a drop, apparently, as it was nowhere to be seen now. She couldn’t help but suspect Kaia was watching them, caring for them, and a small smile crept across her lips. She closed her eyes and lifted her face to the wind that blew past, lifting her forelock and the feathers in her mane until they were flying.
Yes, a crazy day indeed, but they were alive.
She opened her eyes and looked to the stallion at her side. Questions clambered over one another in her mind, begging to be asked. She was quiet for a moment, the only sound their hoofbeats in the grass.
“Evokar,” she started, speaking slowly as if each word were a jewel. She stared ahead. “There is more to you than meets the eye. You are a most lovely mystery."
She meant it. Who knew that the stallion had the blessing of plant manipulation? She certainly didn’t. Nor did she know of his courage, his simple resolution, his kind and gentle spirit. He calmed her in ways that others didn’t, or couldn’t. In one day he went from simple stranger to revealing his inner power in moments of ultimate vulnerability. In one day, she felt closer to him than to some of her other friends.
She smiled, now turning to him to look him in the eyes. Those secretive, flame-licked eyes. “I grieve the loss of Azeroth, but I cannot think of a finer working partner than yourself. I am blessed to work under you.”

Evokar War-Forged || Stone Circle
They were fine, everything was okay, thank Kaia, he thought to himself. Eyes glanced to the Apanas and he smiled all the more. Surely this would teach them of wandering off, but one could only hope so. Fox's voice broke his thoughts and in all honesty he was thankful for that, as his mind tended to wander so. She spoke of no more missions like this and he smiled and let out a soft laugh. "Well if anything it told me perhaps I need to work on fighting a bit." he joked to her. Though really he needed to train and he can only imagine, how the others would beat him down. Gods be good. Soon the four of them was off once more, but with a bit more ease in their step. As they dropped off the Apanas and spoke to Barnabas, all went a bit more smoothly now. Like a rushing river that broke off into a stream, it was calmers, more at ease now.
The sun was beginning to set, filling the sky with liquid fire, the ways orange and pinks blended together so perfectly. A breeze ruffled his curly mane, and it sent a faint shiver down his spine. Evokar eyed Fox, there was a quietness between them and he wondered what kind of impression he left on her from it all. Evokar a bit of a defeatist to himself hoped he didnt ruin too much. Yet she spoke so gently to him, each words like a melody, she spoke bravely towards him, and he felt the heat rising to his cheeks, as he spoke of him being a lovely mystery. Surely she jest? Has she not caught a glimpse of herself in the passing streams? How the wilds coursed through her veins like blood. She was one with it, and it was one with her. Didn't she know she was the mystery? A mare so free and open, even despite the rushing sexism in the herd? Hira was trying her hardest to break it, but some things don't break so easily.
"It's funny you know." he spoke as he looked to her, a smile crossing his lips. "I was a bit in wonder of you. Azeroth spoke so well of you, yet words. Words did not do you such justice Fox. You've amazed me more then the stories I've heard. I feel the same though. I grieve for him still, another father figure in my life. Yet, his passing not only brought sadness, but hope for better times. Thank you Fox. I consider this a blessing from Kaia. I am indeed honored to work with you, and I look forward to see what else happens." He laughed a bit, but his words rang honest and true. He was never the best with explaining things at times. His mind getting lost with the transition of what he saw and felt through words. It was odd this connection, the kind seemed bound like that to his familiar, dear Margaret. "Next time perhaps we can talk over in the meadows. I like to take Margaret out there, perhaps Georgia, would like it too?" He added with a kind smile.

Evokar's praises made her blush deeply. She always craved compliments, but in reality found them rather embarrassing to accept. Especially when it came to her character.
"Georgia would love the meadows, but the varmint might try to dig her way out of my sight," she laughed. "She's an expert at finding escape routes. I need to put her on a leash."
She realized she didn't answer the question. "But yes, I'd love to sometime," she smiled.
She was so caught up in exchanging pleasantries with Evokar that she nearly missed her own home on the trail back. She stopped short when she saw the house in front of her. Had time passed that quickly?
Like awakening to the world, she suddenly noticed how the sun was setting, how the warm glow blanketed the ground, how Evokar's face was cast in half light and half shadow. My, time passed indeed.
"Well, I guess this ends our first day," she half-laughed. She was so tired, both physically and emotionally from their adventure, she was ready to head in for the night. Almost.
"I..." she trailed off. The sunset made the white patches on Evokar's coat burn orange and yellow, and illuminated the dapples on his side. So many details she never noticed about him, this secret stallion.
She cleared her throat. "I look forward to seeing you again, Evokar. Keep me posted with my next job for the herd. I know things are still settling with the change in ranks, but you're welcome here anytime."
She smiled, gently bumping her muzzle into his shoulder. "Have a good night, my friend. I'll see you when Kaia deems it so. Take care of yourself."
With a swish of her tail, she turned toward home.

Evokar Stone Circle of War Forged
It was odd how for once time seemed to pass by for very different reasons. Normally he felt as if there was not enough time in the day, how there was still so much work to do, how could he even think of sleeping when there were things that needed to be done. Yet here and now, time passed by very quickly and he was at a loss for it. It was odd how easily he was captivated by their talk after such an adventure. Was the sun truly setting? Was it time for the stars to start their endless twinkling with the dark blue sea of the sky? He couldn't believe it, but somehow he hoped he could lose time more like this. Eyes glanced to Fox as she mentioned this was her stop. He watched her lightly, noting the way she stopped and paused a bit in her sentence and how he seemed to wait patiently for the next word she spoke, always delighted to see what she said next. Yet with everything she said, he smiled all the more.
"Well this wasn't exactly what I was expecting, but I believe I do look forward to working with you more in the future Fox." he remarked dipping his head politely to her. While stallions here mostly viewed mares more as weaklings in the herd, Evokar found strength in the way they seemed to continue to fight for what was right for them, and Fox seemed to fight it all in her own unique way. When she nudged his shoulder, he chuckled a bit. "A good night to you Fox, I eagerly await to see what is instore for us next." he spoke with clear earnestly. He was excited to see what would be planned, though he did not wish to be in more danger, he did enjoy Fox's company. He liked to listen to her talk, how she filled the silence with her words. He always was amused with what she said, he found himself wishing at times she'd say a bit more. Evokar bid her a fartherwell, and waited a bit watching her go home and making sure regardless of the distance she made it there safely. Where he spoke so softly. "Till we meet again." he hushed out.
Soon he turned around and trotted onwards into his stone like home to work, and await Margret, who he assumed surely had missed him, for he was normally out as much as this. Though Evokar assumed perhaps she was probably enjoying the quietness and taking long naps before he would intrude of her moments. With a smile on his face and his mind on what would come, Evokar trotted onwards hoping that the two would meet sooner then later.
