ACORRO Acorro was in a prolonged good mood. In his mind, there was little reason not to be. The war was over, Alya had blessed him, and now this; and exciting new thing born of the rebuilding efforts that were already going on. Sedo was bouncing back; new homes were being built and livelihoods restored. Even the ride there had been exciting – he'd never really travelled by windracer board before and there had been something exhilarating about their journey, feeling the winds of the Sky Mother whipping past as the landscape sped away. Even Lailah seemed to have enjoyed the trip, surrounded as strangers as she had been – she had often had her nose to the wind and her tongue lolling out.
The destination itself wasn't much to look at, not yet, but the people had been welcoming enough after their trip. It was clear that their discovery had set some on edge, but Acorro couldn't help but peer curiously from a distance at the innocuous looking entrance throughout the evening. When he found the opportunity to do so he'd stood on the threshold to try and get a better view, but it yielded none of its secrets. A few clicks of his new blessing hadn't revealed that much either, though he wasn't entirely sure if that was a result of there being nothing there, or because he didn't have a very good handle on the sonic voice yet. The air blessing was already proving decidedly more difficult to get his head around than the fire one, which had seemed to come so easily. He wasn't going to read to much into that – the very nature of air was hard to contain and control, so it sort of made sense that he struggled more with an air blessing. He'd get a handle on it. Eventually.
He was awake before the dawn. An early riser anyway, curiosity had him bright-eyed and ready to go earlier than usual. In truth, he felt rather like a foal about to head off on an adventure, like the ones he'd used to invent as a child. As was his usual routine, he'd gone for a jog to start the day. It had also helped to burn off some of his excess energy, as well as to kill a little time whilst the rest of the spelunkers arose and prepared for their journey. He was back as dawn broke and the stars were fading away, with a clatter of metal-shod hooves on rock and an excited swish of his tail. The pale paint of the meteors on his body still held a soft glow whilst the last remnants of the night lingered. His harness was on in a flash, sword and shield clipped onto it and ready. The glaive he was leaving behind, a long weapon unlikely to be of use in a cave system, and the locals were kindly supplying a variety of lanterns. He had no clue what they were going to come across, but wasn't that what made it an adventure?
A lantern held in his teke and Lailah lying at his feet, he waited at the cave's entrance for the others to gather, eyes bright with anticipation of what was to come. He wasn't afraid – it was just a cave and he had every confidence in both the horses that had been assigned to, and that had volunteered for, the exploration. What could possibly go wrong?

ENIAH your scars will be remade in gold.
________________________________________________
He never might have anticipated he would be among the many roped in in joining a mullah to sacred ground especially a place as historically unique as God's Landing. For it was here, according to Seroran tales, that the gods would descend from their plane onto the land of mortals. Among these great plateaus and cliffsides, Alya herself is said to have landed, and though Eniah had begun to grow curious of the Sky Mother, he nonetheless felt as though a pair of incorporeal eyes were glaring down at him, studying each and every one of his tentative hoofsteps. After all, the colt's faith in Ignacio was steadfast and never wavered. He didn't see much a reason for it to do so.
Despite Eniah's initial hesitation, the colt ultimately chose to go when he learned that Tumbleweed and Ianthe would accompany him. So, the boy gathered the essentials he would need for the journey, said a brief prayer to Ignacio and Kaia, strapped on his saddlebags and departed to the windboard with his familiars in tow. When they had arrived at the village, he strapped a lantern to his staff and let it hang securely from his weapon strap, where it dangled like a will-o-the-wisp in a cool desert night.
Escorting the mullah was a ragtag bunch of horses; his companions, skirmishers, folk horses, and even a savior for good measure. Of the strangers, the only one who stood out to him was a kirin. This was not the first time he had laid his eyes upon scales. Master Lilith's youngest had struck the citizens of Valore as an anomaly by being the first kirin that had been seen in ages. Eniah certainly thought Ingrid was strange -- but this, this was a full grown kirin! Associating themselves with Alya's children nonetheless. It was incredibly wonderful, but also incredibly peculiar.
He could sense Ingeras' piqued curiosity from inside his saddlebag. The furia was hidden away as a skull, but he seemed to rumble energetically.
At last, they reached the cavern's entrance. The daunting shadows were dimly illuminated by his and Acorro's lanterns. Eniah's brows furrow, and he feels himself shudder with anticipation and fear. Thankfully, he's very good at hiding it.
'Caves. I hate caves.' his kestrel Sol mutters from his withers. "Perhaps you should wait outside then, in case something happens?" Eniah suggests. 'Technically speaking I have a greater chance of being made into a meal by a bigger bird the longer I stay put by myself. I did not say I wasn't coming with you.' "...Fair enough. Together then."

S H E P H E R D• Vagabond | Harbinger • ”The phoenix must burn before it can be born again.” The wind whipped past Shepherd, tangling her mane and pulling at her feathers like a vicious beast. It ripped and tore and scraped at her body as she fell, down, down, into the darkness that threatened to swallow her whole. She braced for impact, but nothing ever came. She struggled to open her eyes against the raging storm, and when she did, she saw an ice cold scowl glaring into her soul. Shepherd opened her mouth to speak but her voice was stolen as the heavy darkness slammed into her chest and knocked her back into consciousness.
Shepherd jolted from the shock of her dream, gasping as she yanked her head away from the pillow. Her sharp movements roused Lockbox, who had been standing guard at the entrance of her tent, and the tiny homunculus wandered over, concern evident from the soft chattering ‘click’ of their jaws. “I’m fine,” Shepherd breathed, chest still heaving despite herself, “I’m fine.”
There was no way she was going to be able to get back to sleep after that nightmare, so Shepherd stayed awake, simply staring at the gentle slope of the fabric ceiling above her. The brightness of the moon was her only source of light, and the ever present reminder of Alya’s watchful eye didn’t make going to sleep any easier. Even though she’d been sent on this mission to investigate the goings on of a holy site, Shepherd had felt uneasy the whole way here. She’d noticed her connection to the air goddess drifting ever since she’d gotten lost in that godforsaken storm. Ignacio, out of all gods in the pantheon, had come to her rescue and left a little reminder of his good deed in the form of his blessing. Other Serorans might’ve seen this as a curse, but Shepherd knew every blessing had value, wether you wanted it or not. That didn’t mean, however, that the gods thought the same. A part of her reasoned that Alya had a right to be upset at the fact that the beloved former mullah had been marked by not one, but two other gods and simply left it at that. She wasn't going to be able to convince an angry god of anything. Besides, her thoughts were more occupied by the curious opening in the plateau. The new Sultan had called upon her specifically to tend to this pressing matter, and Shepherd, the ever diligent, had relayed the information back to Dalach. Perhaps this development was Digend’s doing? Mysterious structures had been popping up over Sirith after all, perhaps Digend thought it time to expand her horizons into a warmer climate. Whatever the true nature of this worrisome cavern, Shepherd allowed her mind to wander until she heard the telltale clink of metal pans and tent flaps being rustled. “Time to rise and shine,” she thought, folding back her bedding. A quick brush through her hair, a twirl of her beard, and a quick flick of eyeliner was enough for the usually immaculate mullah, and she exited her tent with a stretch, staff clasped tight in her teke. Lockbox followed right on her heels and crawled up Shepherd’s staff to her shoulder as she let it drag behind her in the sand, leaving intricate swirls in her wake. Two horses were already waiting at the tunnel’s entrance when she arrived. The golden colt Eniah stood talking to his kestrel, and the skirmisher Acorro stood ready with his painted wolf at his hooves. The other members of their little caravan had yet to arrive, not that she was going to complain about a little extra time to chat with her escorts. Shepherd dipped her head at them both, greeting them with a signature smile. “Mornin’, you two. Sleep well?”

SauronIn the eye of a reckoning Everyone is a sheep But I've become the lion’s mouth So settle in my teeth Eyes looked to the horizon as he took in the view for a moment. He would be damned to say, but it was a pretty view, for sand lickers. Though he supposed he was somewhat a part of them was he not? When it was all said and done, Sauron was willing to lay down his life for them, time and time he has offered it. Still at times in the quietness of dawn he felt as if he was still missing from him. Something felt not whole or complete and the quick to anger kirin was at a loss for what it could be.
When he was told to join in on this mission it gave him for a day or so a sense of purpose and fulfillment, but he couldn't ignore the look Ishmael gave him with the news of his new mission. As if he was a dog always chasing his tail, Sauron all but snorted and proclaimed he would show them his worth, show them who he was.
But here he was with no answer, and it angered him all the more. Who was he besides one of the thousands that murdered innocents? Who was he passed that? He had memories of a life before, but it felt so surreal, like a dream. Was it really him? With a quick shake of his head he snorted, to hell with this thinking, to hell with it. He was a fighter through and through and he died once for fighting for a cause, he'd do it again even if it was for a different side.
With out a moment to spare he moved towards the next destination, a scowl on his face like normal, as he realized he wasted to much in deep thought. As if he was some philosopher of the sort. Ha, he thought with absurd idea. Sauron was like a dog anymore with the Serorians, and dog had nothing but orders to follow. He moved towards the others and merely dipped his head in greeting not wanting to interrupt what possible chatter they had among themselves.

Taeith | Folk
The trip back to God’s Landing was interesting. Taeith had never been on a windboard before, so to hear that’s how they were going to reach their destination was exciting news. For her, it was an honor to return to the sacred peak where Ayla had returned to them so long ago, a chance to once again see what their goddess had in store for them. When she had boarded the windboard, she got the chance to see who was part of this group, eyeing each individual before gracing them with a smile. The only equine she had known from previous ventures was Ianthe, so this was a chance to get to know more of the herd a bit more intimately. Racing across the sand at such a speed had taken her breath away. The wind had whipped her short hair back and she wondered if this was what it was like to fly. The group had reached their destination much quicker than if they had journeyed by foot. The situation must of been more serious than she had first assumed. When they had reached their destination, Taeith took the chance to stare up at the cliff side, remembering her journey to the top. The venture had been scary at first with an unknown sound following her group before they found out it had been a jackalope with teleporting powers. Followed by the sight of their goddess returning to them, the memories were a welcome to the ones of hiding in the Oasis during the war. As night fell, she set up her tent and prayed to Ayla to keep her dreams from turning into the usual nightmare of the earth swallowing her. Dawn had come sooner than she had expected, waking as she heard movement outside of her tent. Blinking the sleep out of her eyes, Tae breathed a sigh of relief. Her nightmare was coming less and less, a sign she was recovering from her fear of the earthquake from the Breim camp. She stretched and packed up her saddlebag, slinging it over her back and attaching a lantern the refugees had given her to the front of it, before walking out into the low light of the morning. The cool air sent shivers through her, something she’d have to get used to as they ventured into the cave that was before them. She pulled out an apple from her saddlebag to get in a quick breakfast, looking at the group slowly coming together from their tents. She came up shortly after Sauron, the kirin, finishing up her apple and adjusting the lantern on her saddlebag strap, she dipped her head in greeting. “ Good morning! May Ayla bless our travels and watch over us, and let Kaia keep the cave still as we venture into the mountainside!” Hopefully she wouldn’t have to use her earth manipulation to protect the group from a cave in. Pushing the negative thought from her mind, Tae gave the group a large smile, noticing the amount of extra travelers coming with them, suddenly wishing she had a familiar of her own.

Tumble | 16 | Windracer
He had only ever heard about this sacred place in stories told during his childhood in the orphanage. God's Landing. He remembered being awed at those tales - still being awed by them to this day, truthfully. The young windracer had been standing before the entrance of the cave for quite some time, staring quietly as if the longer he did the greater the chance that something would reveal itself out of the darkness that was beckoning them. His familiar wandered not too far from him. The hungry roadrunner was kicking away sand as he went, searching for insects and anything edible that were possibly hiding. It wasn't until more horses from their assembled group were beginning to gather once again that the colt tore his attention away from the cave and turned his head to greet them again politely. There were two faces that he knew very well amongst the group - his close friend Eniah who he was never far from, and Ianthe, considered much like an older sister. Tumble had recognized Acorro but the other faces were different. He was good at remembering faces and knew that he had seen a few of them once or twice. But the kirin - the full grown kirin - was something, some one that he had never laid eyes on before. The antlers that raised above his head was more of a daunting sight than that of admiration and Tumble couldn't fight the small shiver of fear that caused the hair along his spine to stand on end. There was no doubt that he had never seen anything look so... magnificent. Nevertheless Tumble couldn't find the unease that made his muscles tense, despite the kirin's simple but polite greeting to which he offered a small smile in return. It was almost an automatic reaction when he stepped towards Eniah, preferring to be at his friends side than anywhere else. His lantern was held at his side along side his lance, a gleaming golden weapon that he still felt odd carrying around. "I'm really kinda glad you're here, En." Tumble murmured as he reached his side, Bek quickly running after him and finding a comfortable spot to sit between his forelegs. "That's the first kirin I've ever seen." He admitted, his voice dropping to a whisper as he flicked his long ears behind his head momentarily. "They're a little spooky."

It was the fiery gold colt that arrived first, Eniah, and Acorro dipped his head in greeting. He tilted it in confusion a little while after, when Eniah spoke seemingly simultaneously and in response to an unheard voice. It took him a moment or two to realise that Eniah wasn't speaking to him, but rather to the kestrel on the his withers, which made a lot more sense. He had no idea how the boy could understand a bird, but he wasn't going to question it. Some horses could just do that. Still, the topic of conversation did make him think and he glanced down at Lailah, wondering if maybe she'd be safer staying above ground. He found her brown eyes gazing up at him and he wondered if she'd anticipated him thinking that. She wagged her tail briefly and he dropped his nose to touch gently to hers. No, he'd bring her with. Her senses could be useful, and she'd probably be far more upset being above ground on her own than on an adventure below.
Their mullah, Shepherd, was next to arrive. "Good morning," he chimed, returning her smile easily. "Pretty well, thank you. Yourself? Looking forward to seeing what's down there?" Maybe there would be nothing, but it was exciting nonetheless.
Sauron was next to arrive, a familiar face to the skirmisher. He was pleased to meet the kirin again under much better circumstances - no more skulking through the Valley or Melodies and sandstorms, trying to avoid the Aodhian forces. "Morning, Sauron!" he greeted cheerily. He'd had him time to get used to the kirin previously, and he was determined to try and set a good example for any in the group who weren't sure about him. He trusted the other skirmisher, and he hoped that they would to.
Taeith and Tumble were next to gather, each receiving a dipped head in greeting and a smile that was probably too bright for first thing in the morning. He couldn't help it, he was a morning kind of person.
He flicked an ear as he did a quick count of the group; still a couple more to show before they were ready to set off. Not that he was impatient to explore at all, no. "Everyone ready?" he asked of those that were already here. "Everyone got a lantern?"

| ENIAH your scars will be remade in gold.
________________________________________________
He stares deeper into the darkness, and darkness stares back. It wasn't the first time he's gone spelunking, but he doesn't think he's been in any place so dark since he was lead through Valore's tunnel system. The colt's ears flicked forward, then flattened, wary of what might lie within. What sort of thing might be in there if they were asking for a Mullah to confront it? Optimistic and cheerful voices shake him from heavy thought. He turns, and acknowledges that the kirin had joined them quietly, while the others were making their way over with friendly voices.
If anyone was alert enough, they might have noticed how Eniah swiftly returned the bow given to him and his company by the scaly skirmisher that accompanied the group. He carried his head and his legs with an elegant gait, and the fiery plumes of his tail swished in the air with character. The kirin's figure commanded respect, or at least, that was how his Aodhian eyes saw it. His servile nature surfaced up, almost without him noticing...Eniah's movement alone carried the grace of a horse whose duty was to impress.
It surfaces for Sauron, and Sauron alone. Yet Eniah's own behavior practically flew over his head, so much so that he didn't understand why Sol looked so bewildered when he looked back at him. "Well Enough." The colt answers Shepherd while trying to sound enthusiastic. As Taeith makes her way, Eniah inwardly cringed at the thought of the tunnel possibly caving in on them. He had been practicing his force field gift in secrecy, but he doesn't know just how powerful they were, or if he could control it in the event of a cave-in. "Let's...not think of a cave in, miss Taeith..."
He feels more comfortable when Tumble arrives at his side. The boy clung to his closest friend almost as though he were a security blanket. Familiar faces were what makes him feel more at home, after all. He looks up at the older, and smiles a smile full of reassurance. Eniah knows by now just how uneasy the Serorans feel about kirins. Frankly, he feels a little uneasy. He always saw them as above him, and very odd after having supposedly vanished centuries ago. His discomfort came from the anomaly, and not for the reasons they were. If only he recognized the truth.
"...You probably wouldn't believe it, but," He whispers in a voice only loud enough for Tumbleweed to hear, "I've known horses who would have killed to see one." A pause. Then Eniah lifts his head, as though he had never revealed that secret truth in the first place, his ear turning toward Acorro. "What about Ianthe...? And that doctor?"

Ianthe ......
Ianthe came trotting over to the gathering from the campsite, wings barely held above the ground and head hanging low. Her mane, faded pink and in need of fresh pigments, stuck out in all directions, and close on her heel was RahRah the secretary bird, a few red neck downs still held firmly in his beak. The rainbow pegasus yawned deeply and stretched dramatically, before parking her butt in the sand and mumbling a halfhearted 'good morning' to all. Normally she was an early bird, but excitement had kept her awake well into the night so when she finally did collapse, she slept deeply. Clearly RahRah had resorted to the last option, but the way he was flaring his crest and puffing out his chest, he was proud of the plucked feathers.
"Sorry, sorry for bein' tardy, " she mumbled, rubbing eyes with her wings. Goggles hung around her neck and her saddlebags were clearly thrown on haphazardly, cloak, which had served as a blanked in the cold night, sticking halfway out on one side, yet she didn't seem to notice. "Did I miss anything..? " she managed to ask through another onslaught of yawns, at least polite enough to hide them behind a wing.

SauronIn the eye of a reckoning Everyone is a sheep But I've become the lion’s mouth So settle in my teeth How was it that every time he was out with others, there was that overly cheerful person, the kind that could see the worst outcome and still see rainbows. Sauron let out a small huff of smoke, as he tried to settle his anger knowing that Ishmael would frown so dearly at this antic. Friends, Sauron, they are your people as much as your are theirs. Gods be damned, he might jump off into the darkness if any of them want to sing a song together.
Though the voice of Acorro took him away from his own mind and he nodded back. "Acorro." he acknowledge, dipping his head, at least there was someone that was used to his presence and his not so friendly banter and manners. He listened to the others and someone talk of something ill to happen and he couldn't help but chuckle and shake his head. "The more you think something ill is going to happen, the more you will it into existence." he remarked as he straightened his posture looking to Taeith and Eniah with an arched brow.
Another seemed to bounce in and it looked as if their small group was only missing one, from what Sauron could keep track of, but it was hard telling, Horses came and left all the time in this herd, and it frustrated him to no end of the lack of security with something like that. "Just make sure you have everything for the journey at hand." he remarked to the bright pegasus with a faint gruff voice. He pulled out his own items from his pack and looked to Acorro. "Ready here." he remarked sternly as he waited for the others to do the same. He looked over them, like a wolf to the flock, seeking anyone that could be a risk to the group or the mission.

Off all the damnable things- Diana wakes with a groan.
Crimson eyes blearily open and glare out the crack in the tent's entrance. The sun happily climbing in the sky oblivious to the pale muzzle cursing its happy glow.
The one night she was without her children and she couldn't even sleep well...
With a sigh, the mare rolls onto her legs and shambles about the tent. A yawn escapes her lips as she haphazardly puts her hair up into loops. Her cloak and saddle bags are lazily put into place and she then wanders out into the light.
She almost immediately makes note of the group before her.
She smiles slightly to Acorro in greeting, she had been delighted with the skirmisher's endless patter, something to fill the long hours of travel. She glances from horse to horse, noting the two younglings and the kirin.
She then flicks her ears when a haggard, rainbow pegasus comes into the fold.
She chuckles at the pegasus's mumbled and only says "No, you didn't miss anything my friend." She then turns to the skirmisher. "I have everything, a med kit with extra provisions... and a lantern"

Taeith | Folk
Tae threw her ears back in embarrassment as not only Eniah, but Sauron as well, called out her prayer as being a jinx. Her face flushed a bright red and she looked at the group, eyes wide. “ I-I’m sorry. I meant no ill will...it’s just something I always say before I venture into a cave…” she trailed off and shifted her weight from left to right a few times, fidgeting at the sand under her hooves. “ If it clears your mind, I was blessed by the mother Kaia to move the earth. I pray I will not have to use my gift...ah...I’m making it worse...I’m sorry, I’ll stop now!” Taeith shook her head and let out an embarrassed sigh as the bright and bouncy Ianthe joined them, though her usual high energy seemed to have been taken over by her still waking up. Acorro’s voice drew Tae’s attention over to him and she gave him a small nod, her teke shaking the lantern at her shoulder gently. The last of them finally showed up, a roan mare by the name of Diana. It was reassuring to have a savior join them on this trip into the darkness. “ I’m ready to go as well.”

"Don't worry, we're all going together," Acorro answered with a soft smile. "In fact, speak of the wind," he added with a chuckle as Ianthe appeared, almost as if summoned, Diana too. Unless he'd completely lost the ability to count, that appeared to be everyone in their merry band. The morning appeared to be agreeing with some more than others, but that was nothing a little bit of movement and activity couldn't fix. He turned his attention briefly to his own gear, giving a couple of the buckles of his harness and saddlebag a firm tug with his teke before unhooking his own lantern and checking its light.
"Well, if everyone has everything?" he asked, offering the last opportunity for people to grab anything they'd forgotten. "Then there's no time like the present," he said with a smile when everyone was ready. "We're all going to stick together, no one gets left behind." They were only as fast as their slowest member after all, and Acorro would be damned if they were going to get split up. "However, let's not all walk on top of each other," he added. The last thing they needed was everyone crowding each other in a confined space. That's if it was crowded down there, in reality he had no idea what would round any corner. That made it exciting though, didn't it? He probably wasn't hiding his eagerness about the whole thing very well. "Oh, and don't pay any mind to Sauron, he's not much of a morning horse," he said, flashing a cheeky grin at the kirin. "Nothing's going to happen," he said with warm certainty, looking to any that seemed a little uncertain. And if something did happen? Well, he was certain that they could deal with it. If push came to shove, he'd play his secret force fields card. Not that he'd have to, this was going to be fun and drama-free.
He turned to face the entrance of the cave. If he was something of a poet he might have had something profound to say, or perhaps some witty quip. However, he wasn't, he was a skirmisher and literary anything had never been his strong suit. Instead he simply trotted forth, lantern held high in front of him, eyes bright, and resisting the urge to shout echo into the stretching expanse ahead of them. He was a mature and responsible adult, honest. "Don't be afraid to shout up if you need anything!" he called back over his shoulder. "We're all here for each other."

Ianthe ......
Rainbow butt spend a few more minutes yawning massively, all hidden behind her wings, and retrieving whatever supplies she might need, lantern included. Bleary eyed she stood with the others, then noticed RahRah's proximity, secretary bird almost glued to her side. "No, " she said firmly and the bird ruffled his feathers! "You're not going in there with us. I'm not having you panicking and kicking and throwing a tantrum, " she added, and her lankly companion grew even fluffier, squawked wh0-knew-what, and then stalked away on his string-bean legs. He didn't go too far, however, just enough that it didn't seem like he cared at all.
"Ready, " Ianthe sighed with all the power of a teenager who wanted to sleep another decade, combing her teke through her faded pink mane to pull it back and out of her face. She joined the ones already peering into the darkness, squinting her eyes softly. Acorro's words did help to make her more at ease, and as the group began to filter forward, Ianthe waited for a natural opening in the line, clutching her lantern just a wee bit tighter than necessary. She'd always clamored for adventure, but this one was a little too.... under ground.

| ENIAH your scars will be remade in gold.
________________________________________________
The once regal colt stiffens his neck and raises it, sky blue eyes swiftly darting towards Sauron with an innocent, yet apologetic look. His lips purse, and then his gaze starts flickering back and forth between him and Taeith, almost as though he was silently suggesting that he wasn't at fault! She started it, that look seemed to say. Eniah might have been a mature and particularly sophisticated child ... but he was still a child. The boy grants Taeith one last look, deciding to hold his own tongue while she apologizes ... and then he looks forward into the tunnel once again.
Although it was dark, it was broad enough to fit at least four horses side by side. He could wedge himself comfortably between Tumble and Ianthe, where he admittedly felt safest. Acorro's words had offered some reassurance ... but Eniah couldn't shake his anxiety. 'You've been through far worse than this,' he thinks to himself. Bravely, with company in tow, the colt swings his staff just slightly, and hears the comforting clink of the lantern bump against it. He hears Sol mutter something softly, perhaps a small prayer. The kestrel's feathers were ruffled, but his talons clung tight to his companion's cloak.
"Together then." Eniah breathes. He bumps his shoulder into Ianthe and starts forward. All around him, he swears he can hear the walls rumble and his hooves echo as he takes his first steps into the cavern bravely. The boy keeps close to his closest friends, but he trails after Acorro, dispersing warm light against the tunnel walls.

SauronIn the eye of a reckoning Everyone is a sheep But I've become the lion’s mouth So settle in my teeth Nostrils flared expelling smoke, as his mouth ache to spill the fire that was nearly at the tip of his tongue. He watched the young child Eniad, and seemed to shake his head as the mare Taieth began to spill out apologizes. "No need to apologize more. Once is enough." he spoke. Ignacio give him strength it was gonna be a long time in the cave with everyone. At least out in the open they could give each other a wide space, now, well he hoped he wouldn't have to spit fire at anyone.
Body tensed as his eyes narrowed dangerously at Acorro, acting as if he was no more then a cat grumpy from its midday nap. Though he shoved that sharp witted remark to the side, and instead blew smoke out his mouth. "I'll stay in the back." he spoke coldly, a faint snarl on his face, showing those pearly fangs of his. Eyes looked at the yawning child, and snorted a bit shaking his head all the more. By this time they all will be yawning at this right.
Eyes watched as the others moved into the cave, and he looked up at the sky, mouthing something, before submitting himself into the mouth of the cave. Into the void they go. He watched as the young kids seemed to huddle together, that was good at least, basic herd instincts kicking in for them. Sauron looked around as he moved his lantern here and there to look around.

Tumble | 16 | Windracer
Adventures were things that Tumble felt in his bones that he was born for. He had a habit of jumping head first into any new opportunity, relying solely on the fact that sometimes you just had to listen to your instincts and take a leap of faith in order to discover new things. His steps into the cave were confident. His bird familiar hopped up to find a comfortable place to roost on his back in order to avoid being stepped on. The lantern is held low at chest height in front of him, swaying with his every step. There were a good number of caves that he had explored in his short life but none of them had seemed as expansive as this one - and that was all the more cause for curiosity. Tumble's ears twitched as he looked around, intrigued at the realization that the cave was more quiet than anything. There were no animals here, not even the scattering sound of a beetle along the rock walls. "I hope no one's claustrophobic." He thought aloud, his silent wonder coming out in words as was true to his personality. He raises his lantern as he lifts his gaze upward, mouth hanging open slightly as he stared up at the ceiling of the tunnel. "How far do you guys think it'll go?"

S H E P H E R D• Vagabond | Harbinger • ”The phoenix must burn before it can be born again.” “Slept like a babe,” Shepherd replied to Acorro, grinning. “Scary tunnel or no, I’m excited to see what the earth’s depths hold in store for us.” As the rest of their adventuring party trickled in, Shepherd took the opportunity to do another once over of his companions. Sauron was a new face, but he’d heard tale of the dual-colored kirin on his travels. He smiled to himself, not smugly, just knowingly, assured that somehow his goddess had a hand in this creature’s rebirth. Soon after, everyone had gathered at the cavern entrance, and Acorro slowly began to lead them down into the depths. Shepherd was eager to see what secrets laid beneath the surface, despite, or perhaps in spite, of the dangers he had been warned of, and it was that curious nature that urged him to join Acorro at the pack’s head. Whatever was down there, he wanted to be the first to see it. Keeping his right side to the wall, the harbinger extended his wing and ran his gilded feathers along the wall, looking for markings or changes on the cavern wall. Since the folk of the settlement had required his assistance and not that of a simple team of warriors made him curious. It was obviously a spiritual matter, but of what sort? An entity? A mural? If it had scared them enough to warrant a party this large it was surely going to be interesting and somewhat dangerous. An eager part of Shepherd’s soul hoped that it was Digend’s doing. “Aye,” he said, turning around to glance at Tumble with a grin, “Maybe it’ll go all the way to Nariah! I’ve always wanted to try that sake of theirs.” He chuckled, shifting as he felt Lockbox move down his back, “In truth, I can’t imagine it’ll be too far, though I wouldn’t be surprised if it opened up into a larger cave system. We’ll just have to wait and see.”

Taeith | Folk
The group started their descent into the darkness of the cavern, and Taeith watched as the younger ones grouped together. She hadn’t noticed Eniah’s childish glances towards her when Sauron had spoken to them, and it was probably for the best. She didn’t need to feel any more guilt for her words. She also barely noticed the smoke coming from Sauron’s as by the time she looked up from the ground the group was already moving into the cave. As Acorro and Shepherd led the way, the teens bundling together, she decided she would stay in the middle of the group, in front of Sauron. She kept her to herself, looking at the walls of the cave, a little surprised at how wide it was. The group could easily move about and could change positions if they wanted to. Her ears flicked forward as conversation switched to how far this tunnel could go, with Shepherd joking it could go all the way to Nariah. Tae let out a soft huff. They were definitely going the wrong way if they were going to the underground city. She had been fascinated by the bright crystals they used for lights when she had visited only a year or two ago and how was amazed by how different the architecture was even though both herds utilized the natural landscape. The memory was a welcomed one and it helped push the rest of her embarrassment and guilt out of her system. There was a job they were here for and she needed to focus. While the rest of the group chatted amongst themselves, she returned her gaze to the walls of the tunnel. If she was lucky, there might be stuff she could find and bring back with her to sell off.

The spacious cavern seems to give little reason for fright so far. The floor is even and easy to traverse, the cave itself large enough to comfortably travel in. The only thing of note, really, is the constant, steady descent of the cavern, leading you deeper and deeper. Soon enough no natural sunlight is at your backs – only your lanterns light the way. The distance from the entrance isn’t even that great; it’s the decline that is causing the light to fade so quickly.
Right in front of you, the lanterns illuminate a broken and spilled lantern. This is probably as far as the locals got, then. It’s clear the exit was hasty, so whatever it was that so shook them is close now.
There isn’t much to see, however. Your lanterns’ light brushes the smooth stone surface around you. The only thing of note is really how very smooth it is, save for those small indents that seem… Quite long and regular, actually, now that you really look at them.
Someone pushes a light source closer.
It’s not rock at all; it’s masonry.
And this is a grand doorway.

Tumble | 16 | Windracer
The descent deeper and deeper into the tunnel was unraveling an odd mixture of excitement and fear that sent a creeping feeling down the young windracer's spine. Apart from his curiosity that he expressed earlier in their little journey he was mostly quiet the rest of the way. The first sound to break his silence was a sharp gasp as his front hoof strikes a piece of broken glass. Immediately Tumble stops, hoof raised and held against his chest before he hops back and shifts onto all fours again, holding his lantern higher but closer to himself. His startled sound causes a frightened squawk from his familiar who was shaken up from the sudden jolt. The road runner quickly scrambles to his feet, feathers flapping in order to avoid slipping off his master's back - but he was quick to make sure the colt got a good pecking from his sharp beak as consequence. "Sorry, Bek!" Tumble's voice is a harsh whisper in between light, breathy chuckles. He gives himself a good shake before raising his lantern towards one broken on the cave floor. "Glass? It's a lantern..." He wonders aloud in a soft mumble. He turns to glance at the other horses beside him before looking forward, ears perking up to attention as he squints in the low light. The walls here are smooth, maybe a little too smooth for something meant to be natural. Tumble never saw anything like it before, at least not that he can remember on the spot anyway. "There were others that came here before us?" His head turns to Acorro this time, blue eyes curious but holding an equal amount of concern, maybe even a little bit of fear. He doesn't know much but a broken lantern in a cave didn't seem like a good sign. Waiting for an answer Tumble turns his head back towards the stone walls before them, eyes sweeping over the smooth surfaces. He can only hear the words of his guardian now; just what did he get himself into now?

| ENIAH your scars will be remade in gold.
________________________________________________
They had been walking for some time now, the gentle echo of their hoofsteps resounding in an uneven cadence throughout the tunnels. Deeper and deeper they went, the dark walls illuminated by lanterns. By now, Eniah could hear the tunnel's unending white noise, as though the bowels of the earth themselves were humming. The colt keeps close to his companions, practically wedging himself between Ianthe and Tumbleweed for security. On his withers, he could feel Sol leaning in close, and the kestrel winced on occasion. He almost hated that his familiar came along -- he could tell that the enclosed spaces were gnawing at the bird's anxiety.
Some ways down, Eniah sensed an ushering feeling of curiosity from Ingeras. The furia had remained quiet in his saddlebag up to this point, but the child began to wonder if they were growing close to their destination. He spies an indistinguishable silhouette in the darkness, and flashes his lantern on it, revealing one that was broken and spilled. Someone has been here before.
"They did say that they wanted a mullah to investigate..." He whispers. Although, Eniah had to wonder just what had frightened away the horses that had explored this place before? His lantern light finds the door, and his brows arc in amazement. "Wow."
He hasn't seen carving so sophisticated since he had left Valore! Eniah stepped closer to investigate the masonry, illuminating smooth stone. "Look at this door!" He says quietly in awe, "The size of it is amazing..."

"Well, don't be a stranger back there," Acorro replied with a swish of his tail to Sauron's grumpy comment about staying at the back. A little smoke display wasn't going to faze him (and this was hardly his first rodeo with the kirin), and if Sauron was angry with him, it was going straight over his head. Ignorance is bliss, as they say.
He kept an ear on the conversations going on around, speculations on where the tunnel might lead them, but he didn't join in. Instead he was clicking softly under his breath, making use of his sonic blessing to try and map out what lay beyond the lantern light ahead. It would probably have been more effective if he were more familiar with his blessing, and if the tunnel was slightly more interesting. Beyond the descent, it was barely noteworthy, and that was almost disappointing. It made him briefly wonder why the locals had gone to all the trouble of getting others to come and explore, and why they hadn't seemed the most enthusiastic. Thinking on it, it was fairly odd that their entire team were non-local; if this had cropped up on his doorstep he'd have been on of the first to volunteer to explore it.
Lailah slunk along as close to him as possible, practically walking underneath him, which seemed to be her preferred place to be. Her large ears kept swivelling back and forth, straining to catch sounds. At Bek's squawk she jumped away, skittering around to face the noise with her hackles up and tail between her legs. Acorro paused at this, turning to look behind him and assess. He dropped his nose to Lailah's head, offering her a quick nuzzle of reassurance before walking over to the broken bits of lantern that Tumble had nearly tumbled over. "Mmhmm," he agreed at the colt's question, examining the broken remains with curiosity and nudging a few of the glass shards with a hoof, as if to check that yep, they really were broken. "They said they didn't get that far though." They hadn't really said why. He lifted his head up again and cast his gaze around, holding his own lantern up high to try and cast some extra light on things. He didn't recall them saying anything about leaving in a hurry... Well, there were probably any number of good explanations for it, it wasn't really a concern. Lailah went to creep forwards and take a look at the broken light as well, but he stopped her with a foreleg and gently nudged her away from the broken glass with only a few whined complaints - he wasn't risking her cutting a paw open.
The doorway... well, doorway didn't really feel like it cut it, the thing was huge. The quality of the architecture was summarily lost on him though, and he snorted. "Who in the world needs a doorway that fancy?" he asked, somewhat rhetorically before heading closer to take a look. And then tap one of the bricks with a hoof, because when you came across something old and imposing the obvious response was to poke it.

Ianthe ......
With her lantern held tight in her teke, Ianthe took one last look up at the sky, and then followed the group into the tunnel. Surprisingly it wasn't no where near as cramped as she had pictured, easily allowing for several equines to walk side by side. Eniah wedged himself between her and Tumble, so she gave him an encouraging wink and briefly draped her wing over both friends to give a reassuring, feathered hug. With her wing folded tightly again, she pressed back against Eniah gently enough, lending him physical support... and feeling his body also helped to ground the excitement beating in her chest.
A broken lantern was found and inspected, while Ianthe muffled another yawn with a wing. The tunnel was dreadfully boring and like the others she speculated why an outside team had been called to inspect it. So far it was just smooth and boring and going down down down, and that broken lantern, the only exciting thing around, had to belong to a local. Half of her wished she stayed in bed, but then a lantern was pushed further forward and the light caught masonry and a doorway.
Almost at once the rainbow pegasus woke up, releasing a low impressed whistle at the sight before breaking away from Eniah, stepping forward to see it better. Acorro was already poking at the cut stone, which to Ianthe was all the permission she needed to inspect it too.
"Who would have build something like this? And when? " she asked out loud, lifting her lantern high up to try and see just how tall the doorway was. "Were going through it, right? " she added swiftly with a grin that nearly split her face, eyes hopping briefly to Shep, maybe seeking permission from the Mullah... maybe not.

SauronIn the eye of a reckoning Everyone is a sheep But I've become the lion’s mouth So settle in my teeth Staying the back was easier for him, it allowed him to not talk, but simply observe. At a time, he wished for a familiar voice of someone he left home, but now was not the time to dwell on such things. Soon the light from the world above was gone, and all they had was their own light. This should be interesting he thought, as one scare could have half them squawking and flocking about like chickens who have fox in their coop. He huffed out a bit as he remained in the back with a bit of distance. Better safe then sorry.
Though as they stumbled on something he stiffened up, his muscles aching for a swing and fight, the memory still fresh on how to fight from eons ago, seemed to ache in his bones. But he pushed them done and eyed the broken lantern, and snorted, dull.
Though the door, surely that was something, but even in its grand stature, Sauron was still not so impressed. He wasn't really expecting this, but as others seemed to grow closer and even prod at the door. He rolled his eyes, children. "Anyone have some sort of blessing to scope this out?" he nearly snarled out as he eyed the ones so close to the door. Perhaps tremor sense or something. If the door wasn't opened it might mean it was made to keep something in.

Taeith | Folk
Quiet filled the tunnel as they continued to descend deeper into the earth. Tae continued to glance every now and again at the walls, hoping for something to either look at, aside from the butts in front of her, or something she could scavenge. The tunnel walls remained bare the entire time, though they had distracted her to the point she had almost walked into those in front of her as everyone started to stop after Tumble let out a gasp as he stepped on something. Tae struggled to take the lantern off the chest strap of her saddle bag, awkwardly tussling with it until she was able to free it. Lifting it up, she poked her head up from the back of the group to see what the commotion was about. A lantern. That was what everyone was looking at. Tae let out a disappointed huff, hoping that they had discovered something more impressive. The lantern was probably from one of the villagers who had come down before them, a hypothesis echoed by a few others in the group. Her disappointment was soon replaced with curiosity as Eniah moved away from the group and stared up at something huge. A door? Acorro and Ianthe were the closest to it, causing Taeith to want to get closer too. She came up next to the pair as Ianthe asked if they were going through it. “ There is no other way forward, so might as well, right?” she asked, giving a grin to the young pegasus. Acorro had pawed the door before, but Tae felt the urge to do so as well. Reaching out with her right leg, she scratched at the surface with her hoof, noticing small chips came off. It was made of a natural, hard material which meant…she might be able to move it. Sauron was already asking if someone could scope out what was behind the door, suggesting a blessing such as tremor sense. Why waste the time when she could just...pull it open? “ If you all don’t mind, let me take a crack at it. I’d step back if I were you two.” She waited for Acorro and Ianthe to give her some room, putting her lantern back on her saddle bag in the time it took for them to move. Taking a few steps back of her own, Taeith concentrated on the door as a whole object. She had yet to move an object this big, but when was she ever going to get another chance? Once she felt the door was in her grasp, she took in a deep breath and pulled back with all her might. It didn’t budge. “ Oh come on…” she muttered, pulling back again and letting out a groan as she physically struggled with the thing. Taking a step back, she continued to pull. Sweat started to form on her forehead before she heard the sound of smooth material grinding against rock. “ Come on you big piece of...there we go!” The door slowly slid against the tunnel ground and was soon open enough to let them through. Letting go of the door, Taeith started to catch her breath. Her legs felt a little shaky, but she’d be okay in a few minutes. That was some intense door opening. She looked to the others, shooting a proud smile before looking back at the door. “ Okay...lead the way...phew…”

The metal door creaks and slides open. Dust and sand falls from it, forming a heavy dust in the air. It’s hard not to cough, getting a lungful of age-old dust. When the doors are open, it’s obvious that the issue was not so much the weight of the doors as the fact that they had not been moved in who knows how long. Debris and shifting earth had jammed it shut tight, but now that the door is free, even the weaker among you can feel them move easily on their hinges if you brush past them.
Stepping through the doorway, you come into a much larger chamber. The walls of the cave look almost as if a force had simply willed them to split apart like this – it looks far smoother than natural, or even earth manipulation could achieve. The shapes a bit too rounded, others a bit too sharp. In the relative darkness with only your torches for light, it takes a while for your eyes to truly see beyond the brightness of your own lanterns.
The first thing you see distinctly is a great stone pillar carved with writing. Those among you who are literate can make out the worn words: The lower city district of Alhaj There are plenty more words under that, but they’re intangible and deciphering them would take time, and far better lighting.
One by one, you can make out the outlines of buildings all around you. Some are carved into the mountain itself – others are constructed from masonry. Beneath you is a paved path of sandstone brick, and ahead of you what is clearly a long-abandoned residential area. Some of the buildings even have what must once have been gardens, with empty planters and long-dead husks of trees. The buildings themselves are not terribly impressive – they don’t much differ from the simple homes in Osulas or smaller communities. There is little decoration save for some carvings around the doorframes and windowsills, and save for the peculiar location, this could be a town you grew up in.

Were they going through it? Well, that sounded like a plan to him. Doors weren't generally the most interesting thing, but this one was a giant and that alone made it a curiosity. It was also made of metal, hidden underground, and was a gateway to the unknown. Clearly it was to be opened. There was a distinctive clang as he clacked it with a metal-shod hoof - yup, it was definitely metal. He reared up to try and give his lanter a little extra height, peering to see if he could see the top of it, or maybe some kind of opening mechanism.
He flicked an ear to listen to Taeith, before dropping back down to all fours and obediently backing up to give her space to work. He looked on curiously as she began to wield her blessing, but when the door finally swung open with a great creak and a great deal of dust, his first response wasn't to leap into the new space. Instead he trotted over the to the tobiano mare, the shaking of her legs not going unnoticed and drew alongside her, suddenly much more serious and ready to offer a should of support if she needed it. Exploring was all well and fun, but the wellbeing of their little gang was his first priority. "Good work! You okay?" he asked, opting to keep pace with her instead of trotting on ahead to the unknown. "That was quite a thing to move!"
He glanced over his shoulder until he caught Sauron's eye and gestured for the other skirmisher to take the lead - he didn't think there'd be anything lurking behind the door, but he'd still prefer to have an experienced and trained fighter at the helm just in case. Doors were occasionally made for keeping stuff in, as opposed to things out. He'd hang back this time, and make sure that everyone was through.

S H E P H E R D• Vagabond | Harbinger • ”The phoenix must burn before it can be born again.” Shepherd honestly hadn’t expected it to be that easy. She’d assumed that the massive mysterious metal door under one of the most sacred Seroran sites would at least have a lock or something, but hey, she wasn’t one to look a gift horse in the mouth. Under expectant eyes, Shep moved to be one of the first ones to step into the chamber. On instinct, she had her force fields at the ready, prepared to activate them should some creature come bolting out of the darkness. When nothing attacked straight away, she lowered her guard. The empty space was strange, but not frightening. The pillar was the first thing they caught sight of, but it was the caverns walls and the buildings that drew their attention. The architecture was a bit bland, truth be told, but the mystery of it all gave the shanties an aura of age and importance. Was this a city? The odd shape of the cavern raised more questions than answers. Perhaps this place was god-made instead of shaped by mortal hooves. How odd. By the echo of the surrounding hoofsteps, Shepherd reckoned that the cavern extended quite a ways back. They knew they’d make their way there eventually, but before anything else, they wanted to examine that pillar. It was in plain view for a reason, maybe a warning or some explanation was engraved there. The lantern wasn’t the best illuminator they’d ever had, but it shone bright enough. “The lower city district of Alhaj,” she read off to the party, deciphering the script for those who couldn’t. She opened her mouth again, then paused a moment, squinting at the rest of the writing. “Ah, can’t read the rest of it, far too eroded to tell clearly.” Shepherd turned back to look at the others, one eyebrow quirked up. “I’ve never heard of this place before, does it ring any bells for anyone else?”
