Gemstone | Breim Uncut
They had conversed through letters, discussing their trials and tribulations, seeking comfort in each other. And it was through these letters that they had spoken of their future, spoken of a possibility for change.
The use of a potion to take away a few years and age them up had come up during one of their correspondences, and at first, Gemstone had felt uneasy. Their agreed age, 18, would make them lose approximately two to three years. But on the other hoof, with her grandmother's health continuing to fail after the collapse of Nariah, it would allow her to step up properly. The old donkey was already in the works to sell the Inn since she could no longer keep up with it due to her injuries, and Gemstone otherwise had little other options. It was under these realizations that the girl decided she would do it because it would also ultimately allow her to reach her goal to protect Yoru.
She had acquired the potion after gathering every shard she could earn and find. There were, of course, many things a child would want with the currency, but this was far more important. This way, her grandmother could rest in well-earned retirement as she recovered, and not have to worry about her young granddaughter. At 18, Gemstone would be on her own. Three years sooner.
It had taken some weeks to get everything in order, but when the day came, she was ready. She decided not to tell her grandmother about it as she didn’t want anything to change her mind. She wouldn’t leave Yoru hanging, not after she promised him she would do this with him, and promised to protect him ages ago.
As she walked through the still recovering Nariah, she realized the cloak she was wearing might not fit her in an hour or so. It was enough amusement to stave away her growing nerves. She passed by numerous horses, many of which she may or may not have passed by before. It dawned on her that the next time she saw Silver, she’d have to explain her sudden aging. She hadn’t seen him since her encounter with Argus, but she hoped he was doing well.
The teahouse they had decided to use as their ‘aging ground’ was deep within the city, and she was glad they were using a public place rather than the now unused Inn she lived at. At least aging themselves in public seemed less...explicit than doing it at either of their homes. It just seemed too awkward that way, and if something went wrong they would have help.
Before she knew it, she was entering the teahouse with her heart hammering in her chest, the potion tucked snuggly under her cloak. They had gotten their own private room together, mostly because neither really knew what to expect, and because it was too weird to just...grow in front of others.
As she went to sit on the pillow in the room she had been lead to, she realized she had arrived a little early as Yoru had yet to get there. It had been a while since they had seen each other in person, and she found herself increasingly excited to see her friend again.
