Days went by, quieter and quieter as routine made its way inside the lives of the equines now living within the Oasis. Everyone silently mourned the loss of a city a lot of them were born into, but everyone had come to terms with the fact that destroying it was what had to be done. Danaë was tired. Lucie was finally recovering from the fever she caught on the journey towards the oasis and was finally frolicking free again, which was a huge relief to the mare. Fewer patients came to visit their hut for her mother’s help, days had gotten emptier. It had been hard for Danaë to find a purpose in the Oasis, now that she had lost everything. She barely managed to put her craft to use, and although she helped in every way she possibly could, she was seriously getting bored. Being deprived of that thing that made her life sense and brought that spark into her eyes had been tough on her emotionally. She was not part of those who could endure boring labour for the greater good, although she tried to the best of her ability. She needed that boiling head of hers to be fuelled by projects, plans and things to build. Her mood had grown duller and duller those past days. The mare had started taking walks alone, far from everyone else, finding it more and more difficult to be sociable, her restless mind giving her a tendency to be irritable when not able to find any kind of satisfaction. She always went home by sundown, though, and would never leave her child alone for more than one hour. She made her way slowly towards the hut, eyes grazing along the lines dug in the orange stone of the cliff she was walking by. Everything was so peaceful at this time of day. The Valley of Melodies kept its whispered songs quiet, softly murmuring into her ears. The walk had eased some of the tension up. In the distance, her little home was already showing. As she walked up the hill that led her to the hut, her ears twitched as the sound of another equine reached her. She turned her head abruptly, surprised that anyone would pass by at this time of day. She was even more surprised to see that the equine approaching was someone she knew. Her bells rang in greeting as she reared a little. What could Mordekai be possibly doing here, was Eyrin in trouble? She trotted towards the stallion without thinking twice. “Wind beneath your wings.” Said a few gestures as she grew close enough to be able to be understood clearly.

He was just supposed to go on a routine check around the oasis, at least around the area he lived in. There were plenty of Screamers inside the Oasis, no need to go further than needed, unless trouble was there. But, who was he kidding, the Oasis was the most secure place in Sedo, so he considered the inhabitants relatively safe. However, during an attempt at raising a makeshift temple for Alya, which he had witnessed and helped with, some rocks had been loose and ever since there had been a small fear that someone might get hurt. As one could guess, this did end up happening. As it did, Mordekai was quickly at the scene, trying to figure out whether someone had been hurt or no. It didn't seem like it, as he looked around the area. However, there was something bothering him about the scene, a small sound in the back of his head telling him to check again.
As he walked a little closer to the scene, near the fallen stones, he noticed something off about the sand. Despite there being water nearby, it didn't explain why the sand seemed a little darker than it would, if water had been spilled. Realization dawned upon the stallion, as he started fearing the worst. No foals had been harmed, he knew that much. But someone or something else definitely had, so where and how? Where was easy enough, it seemed there was some type of pattern in the sand, a mix between blood and something trying to drag its way through the oasis. This also answered the how, as Mordekai followed the trail to find a... pecari. Not expected, but he had to help it anyways. It seemed like its leg had been crushed by one of the stones, but it didn't seem too bad. Definitely something that'd be better off if it was amputated. So, using his teke, Mordekai lifted up the squealing and kicking pecari, and placed it in his saddle bag, as he trotted back to Eyrin. He was lucky to have Eyrin, it made being a Screamer much easier, having a healer he could always find. --- A few days passed by, as Mordekai and Eyrin kept the pecari in their care, waiting for it to get used to only having three legs. It didn't seem like it got used to it though, so Eyrin suggested the Mordekai went to Danaë, who had made Eyrin's wheelchair. So, Mordekai went to visit Danaë late in the evening. Danaë seemed to discover him coming from the distance, so he greeted her back. "And same to you Danaë!" Coming closer to her, he opened his saddlebag, so the pecari could stick its head out. He didn't want to make any long explanation, so he just explained it as it was: "I found this pecari after some stones fell on him. Eyrin amputated his leg, but it doesn't seem like the little guy is getting used to it. We thought you could take him in, get him a prosthetic perhaps?"

D A N A Ë "Of fire and gold."
WC: 238| Post # 2 Danaë’s eyes widened suddenly as Mordekai got closer and as he opened the saddlebag. Inside was the cutest little creature she had ever seen. Now, she had always been fond of animals in the likeness of a pig and pecari were always a favourite of hers. But by Alya’s wings, this one was so tiny and so light, it must have been a baby still. Although she could not think, the way her eyes sparkled said about enough on her thoughts regarding the little animal. She took a step back in order to be better understood as she communicated. “Thank you very much. Would you mind putting him onto the ground so I can see him better? Has he been eating normally while you kept him?” she inquired, as she noticed in surprise how young and tiny the little animal was. It was a miracle he even survived – it was no doubt that Eyrin was to be thanked for that. She was truly, deeply touched by the kind gesture on the two stallion’s part. Thinking about the animal’s safety first and trusting her for caring of such a young creature… It was a very heart-warming feeling. Plus, it would give her something to do, which she could really use those days. She had been longing for a Familiar for a long time now and never had the chance to get herself one – maybe this was her lucky day.

The Pecari wriggled in the saddlebag, as Mordekai described its condition to Danaë. It didn't seem too sick, but was still young and frail. The accident had occurred some time ago, but it didn't seem like the young pecari's parents were anywhere to be seen. Taking in the pecari, it might be better off. "He eats, but not very much. He's very young and parentless. I think he needs to stay somewhere and get used to it, so he can start eating again," Mordekai explained to Danaë. Using his teke, he carefully picked up the young pecari and put him on the ground, where he proceeded to flop over, still not being used to only having three legs.
As it sat on the ground, Mordekai observed the pecari. It didn't move, rather, it stared up at him and Danaë, as if asking to be picked up again. "Do you think, that you could make a prosthetic for it? It seems miserable like this" He asked her. It was still very small, so she'd have to make new ones now and again, as it grew older.
