Every second that passed pulsed like a heavy weight on her skin. Gosslyn gasped for air, her lungs feeling more like iron than flesh.
“Come on, let’s get out of here. I can treat your wounds."
She couldn't see her own injuries but assumed the blood was seeping through her cloak. She swung her head around to the green ground beyond them, eyelids heavy, and nodded.
Rue had her whole body pressed into Gosslyn's back, frozen in fear. If Rue couldn't fly then Goss would have no chance shifting into her avian form to escape. It would cost more energy than she had right now- all her focus had to be moving forward, getting to the bubble of normalcy.
A small white mare caught Goss's periphery. She was attempting to drag the Shield's discarded armor with teke, using all her might. It was a selfless move in a moment of self-preservation, and Gosslyn first considered her foolish- but empathy bled through her judgement, and she stumbled over.
Goss nodded at the mare and gripped a large pauldron with her ice blue teke, its icy fingers spreading over the metal, and pulled. It slid heavily on the grass inch by inch. Goss groaned but pulled steadily, keeping her eyes on the green swath of land beyond their inverted locale.

Having gone back to playing with his now black frost, Chirin was only slightly aware of the increasing weight on him as time passed. After a moment of brief acknowledgment, the colt suddenly felt ten times heavier.
“Chirin! Stop playing and help clear a path for us to get to the normal area!” called Anna. Chirin recognized the stern voice of the falabella Medic and was quick to pick her out in the crowd. The colt ceased his frost and straightened immediately, feeling like a foal having been caught goofing off by mother, “Yes Ma'am!” he responded in a hurry.
His half blind gaze located the lush green grass that Anna had been referring to. He gave Maple a sharp whistle and the dog sluggishly got up and began to follow the group. She was panting with effort but was able to reach the clear area before he was, giving herself a shake once free of the heavy weight.
Chirin was nearly there, seeing Gwen and Gosslyn helping to carry the Shield's armor. He took one more step, his hoof-falls becoming extremely slow. The roan colt staggered, nearly losing his balance as a splitting pain erupted under his horn. His ears rang and his vision became blurry. It felt like someone had just nailed him point-blank in the head with a rock.
A sharp cracking sound, like stepping on thin ice, came from the base of his horn and the colt could faintly feel blood running down the front of his face. The sound sent a shot of fear through the colt but he couldn't keep his thoughts straight as he felt the weight become more and more unbearable.
Giving his head a shake, the colt attempted to walk forward again. Every step felt like agony, the impact from his hoof heavily hitting the purple grass jarred his body each time, causing his head to throb. He looked up, but his vision was darkening as he tried to find someone to help him. Fear raced through his body and he swayed unsteadily on his legs. He managed to force his mouth to make words, “Hey... umm.. guys...I d – don't ... my .. h- head ... kinda hurts.” his words came out as a barely coherent slur.
He swayed as the gravity became heavier on his back. He could hear Maple barking frantically, but the sound hardly registered in his head as his eyes rolled back into his skull and he fell to the ground. He felt a surge of rage that wasn't his and briefly wondered who's it was. The ground shook and bits of earth flew in all directions.
The Lindworm's clawed hands hit the ground with a force so heavy it could have split the field. His Stone Bearer was in pain and he was livid. Not this child. Not if he had any say in it.
With nothing to direct his rage at, he refocused his objective to keeping the colt safe. Carefully and with a remarkable amount of gentleness, he picked the colt up with his massive stone teeth. The gravity that grew heavier on him did nothing aside from slow him a little and piss him off even more.
As the Golem's nose crossed the definite line between grass colors, he tenderly set the boy down as the rest of his serpentine body followed.
Chirin's eyes blinked open and his head told him to stand and do it now. He struggled to get to his hooves, staggering until he found balance. He located the Shield with bleary vision, blinking a few times to clear his eyes, “Where is the merchant? I'll help!”

Basvoq
Shield | Harbinger
......
Removing the armor had barely taken any weight of off his shoulders for under the hammer's terrible influence the pressure was equally indescribable. Yet as the armor had clattered to the ground the pain of it cutting into his flesh lessened and that had given him the resolve to stagger forward. The steps were becoming easier, the hooffalls of his companions heartening him to keep moving. Twice he checked over his shoulder to make sure the others were still following, and he realized two of the horses were dragging his armor. He fought the urge to tell them to leave it behind- something told him that would only make them falter when they were already fighting the hammer's grip.
Time seemed to stretch eternally, the periphery of the hammer's circle always out of reach, while his mind raced as lightning speed. Get the others into safety, find the merchant, force him to still the hammer. Confiscate the hammer. The merchant had used it so carelessly, in a offhand display of power. Why?
At last the grass beneath him bled back into soft green hues and the sky lightened. With it came a release of the hammer's grip and he sank numbly down, breath catching. After braving the gravity field it suddenly felt as though to take a step was to move through thick mud and sand. But there was no time to dwell- he bunched his shoulders and stood back up, swinging around to account for the other horses.
His gaze met Chirin's and as he took in the stagger in the young horse's step and unfocused look in his eyes, anger seeped through him. The merchant wielded the hammer with a frightful lack of care or concern-
"You need to stay here-you can't expect to fight in that state." He then addressed the others broadly, irritated he could not spread his attention both to the injured and to the merchant. "Any who are injured stay behind. I promise we will find you help, and fast. I'm going after the merchant to stop this. Any who are able, with me."
He paused and considered Chirin for a moment longer and eyed the golum, "You can still help me catch the merchant with him."
Basvoq set off around the perimeter of the gravity field, fighting the agonizing strain in his muscles. He stumbled and limped, then with a snarl of effort broke into a canter. The merchant could not have gone too far. Misplaced anger at the merchant, and an overwhelming curiosity for the hammer fueled him. Its uses could be undefinable.

Wintera;War Forged|Outcast
The kirin had focused all of her energy on keeping herself and her young friend moving forward, toward the safety of normalcy. So it was only in the corner of her eye that she saw the small unicorn crumple to the ground like a ragdoll. Breath was quickly sucked in, head turning to begin a transition that way, mouth opening to tell Akari she had to make it on her own, when the earth split and that giant creature surfaced once more.
Wintera blinked as the lindworm picked the youngling up and carried him across the threshold, tenderly dropping him off. With a grunt of effort, the mare redoubled her efforts to get herself and Akari safely over the verge of inverted gravity once more.
It seemed like forever, but eventually they crossed the invisible and yet clear boundary of realities, the pale colored kirin stumbling as gravity reasserted itself and made her feel...so much lighter now. Wintera shook her head to clear it, ears swiveling to focus on the stallion she’d been talking too when this whole thing started.
“Akari, stay here and watch over the little one, help him if he needs it. I’m going to go help catch this troublemaker. Okay?” Wintera murmured quietly to her friend, knowing the younger kirin wouldn’t be very helpful in a chase and apprehension.
Stomach fluttered with nerves as Wintera pushed herself after Basvoq, ordering muscles that felt like quivering jelly to behave. After all, this still wasn’t as bad as when she had first appeared, barely above to walk and feeling like an utter infant. No, she could still move. Still fight if she had too.
Mind pushed away the flood of memories that threatened to rise at the very idea. She was naturally endowed with weapons and armor, she’d be able to help the Shield, and she...well, she’d fought before, even if it was something that made her feel sick. She’d done things she tried not to remember, and constantly told herself that it hadn’t been her fault. That she’d...she still didn’t really know, actually.
A shudder that had nothing to do with physical weakness ran down scaled spine as she drew near Basvoq. “I will help anyway I can,” Wintera announced, panting at the efforts she’d had to expend, but gaze determined and willing.

Chirin saw the anger in the shield's eyes as the stallion surveyed the group, taking in the injuries.
The colt pinned his ears when the stallion told him to say behind. Chirin fixed him with a harsh glare as the Shield spoke to the others. “With all due respect, Sir, you wouldn't be staying behind if you had been hurt. You would still fight.” his voice was level yet harsh and angry. It had seemed that Chirin's words had fallen on deaf ears as the stallion didn't react. The colt wasn't sure where all this anger was coming from, but it made him feel strong. His head hurt and it only made him angrier.
The colt held his glare when the Shield turned to face him,
“You can still help me catch the merchant with him,” he told the boy as he motioned to Gaster. Chirin raised his head, his fractured and broken horn refracting the sunlight into glittering emerald specks at his hooves, “Then you need me. I might know what the merchant looks like, but Gaster doesn't. And he defiantly won't take orders from you.” he told the stallion, casting a glance to the Lindworm, “Don't worry, though,” the colt added, taking a rolled bundle from Maple's back, the dog wagging her tail happily. He unfurled the bundle and slung the chainmail over his back and shoulders, fastening the girth and buckles at the chest, “I won't be without protection.”
He cast a look up at Gaster, who's garnet eyes were fixed on the distance, away from the group. The colt felt his rage. To be honest, Chirin couldn't tell where his anger started and Gaster's rage began, “As for helping you with catching the Merchant,”
Chirin turned to the Shield, a wicked grin spreading across his face, “It would be his divine pleasure.”
I pang of twisted sadism echoed through Chirin's chest, “But for that Merchant's sake, I hope you catch him before Gaster does.” 328 words || post 6

Killian | Merchant Killian was luckily already along the edges of the affected area. He noticed the sort of slice in reality where normalcy and chaos joined just as Anna herself pointed it out. He felt his form flickering away... It was hard to focus on your blessing when you felt the air being crushed from your lungs.
Why the hell did Killi always have to be around for the exciting parts? Couldn't this have happened some place else? WITHOUT HIM?
He lifted his feet slowly in the direction of escape, knowing full well that lingering in the radius would get him exposed... especially with Anna and Goss here. A hoof crossed the threshhold, and Killi let out a sigh of relief. One that was stifled as he heard a boy-- Chirin'-- cry of agony. Killi's head whipped around and he curled his lip as he noticed a small, bleeding concave section at the base of the child's skull. Killi tried to talk himself out of caring, but the little pegasus retracted his freed foot and made to go help the runt. Luckily, Chirin's own Golem came to his aid faster, and Killi simply watched as the behemoth gently took Chirin in its maw and set him down.
Killi darted forward (first slowly because of the gravity, then faster and more clumsy as he readjusted to reality). His form, despite being back to normal, held a sort of ghostly faintness as Killi panted and wheezed. He was getting too exhausted.
As Basqov rallied the troops so to speak, Killi quickly added himself to the 'not getting involved, too wounded, nope' category and shook his head at the larger shield. Chirin attempted to tag along with the other stallion, and he scoffed. "Yeah ok, Kid. In case you forgot, your head's bleeding. Have the medic look at you Captain Deathwish, before chasing mysterious weapons dealers."
Speaking of Anna, Killi turned to evaluate who was with him now. Gwen and Goss had dragged armor (for some reason they'd thought that was important). A few kirins were rallying to assist the shield. Did Basqov really have a chance with this kind of crew? "Maybe we should just leave it," he reasoned.

Gwen | Farmer Gwen was panting and sweating while she pushed herself to move one hoof after the other. The gravity had grown stronger and it was nearly impossible to keep dragging the heavy armour with her, but she refused to give in. Hard labour on her family’s farm had made her strong and the white mare planted her shaking legs firmly onto the purple grass. She was surprised and nervous when she saw the grey unicorn approach her. The golden horned mare seemed to be equally struggling, but she still managed a nod of acknowledgement. Her light blue teke grasped hold on some of the armour and she started pulling as well. Gwen felt a wave of gratefulness crash through her heart at the friendly gesture. Though the insecure mare couldn’t help but feel guilty as well and she considered telling the unicorn to just leave her behind. The words never formed though and instead Gwen set her jaw and with some renewed motivation pulled even harder. The ground beneath her hooves shook suddenly and her silent world rocked as the Lindworm violently emerged from the earth. Gwen looked back at the Golem in fear which turned into worry as she noticed it carefully picking up the body of Chirin. She kept walking forward as she watched the Golem effortlessly move over to the unaffected area and placing his young master down. Chirin managed to get back up and Gwen let out a soft sigh in relief. Basvoq was there as well, so where the two kirins. They paused to speak to each other for only a moment before the Shield started to move away with purpose, followed by the silver kirin and a now armoured Chirin and his Lindworm. Gwen felt a pang of disappointment as she watched Basvoq leave without his armour. She glanced at Gosslyn with a shameful look in her eyes as they too finally reached the end of the cursed area. The white mare gasped and stumbled a little at the sudden weightlessness. She made sure the armour made it out safe as well and then her brown eyes found the grey unicorn again. “Thank you… you did not… have to do that.” She said softly between heavy intakes of breath, now that her lungs could easily expand again. Evan jumped up straight on her back and the young barn owl let out a happy screech before shaking his feathers thoroughly. Gwen looked at the large owl sitting on Gosslyn’s back and then noticed the blood. “You’re hurt.” The white mare gasped, quickly looking around for the small Falabella who she knew could help them.

Basvoq
Shield | Harbinger
......
Basvoq had no time to partake in banter nor dispute over who should pursue the merchant. Help was appreciated, but the stallion did not spare a moment to attempt to rally the others to his cause. Those who were able and not tending to the injured had come, their hoof beats drumming against the earth beside him. Anger seethed and boiled inside of him, until he became aware of the emotion trying to surface. He inhaled sharply then exhaled, slowly and deliberately until his breath was back at his command. With every other strike of his front hoofs against the grassy field he took a measured breath until his mind cleared and his intentions subsided. For now stopping the merchant was the only goal he could make apparent.
Spotting the horse and his cart traveling next to the edge of the distortion field, Basvoq slid his teke over the pommel of his sword. Giving up his armor was easy, but his bond to his blade was steadfast and he was not the kind to enter any situation without a weapon at his side.
As Basvoq neared the merchant he drew the sword, swung round the horse, and stopped with the sword tip pointing at the stranger. Though his sides were heaving, still worn from the trek through the gravity disruption, Basvoq's grip on his sword remained steady. "Merchant. You will put an end to this trick of yours with the hammer. You don't have much of a choice otherwise. " His sword tipped forward ever-so-slightly, the point clear.
