╬ ⧖ C A I V A R U S ⧖ ╬ "I didn't care if he was a genius or a fucking idiot, he was rotting away, and it wasn't fun to watch."
Noticing Sile seemingly reacting to something, Varus blinked and also looked up, tattered ears straining to listen. Was that a child? Even more were coming into sight, and while it gave him anxiety to have more filling the space, the sight of the children struck a chord in his chest. Decimus... Decimus... His brother... Was he alive? He... He didn't know... He couldn't know, unless he tried to go to Eithne, like the summons said...
But he didn't want anyone to see him like this. Especially Decimus. Throat tight, he watched the children numbly, seeing them make fumbled signs of sorts, but ones that the two kirins couldn't read. Mismatched eyes flickered to the others, listening to them speak. Thankfully, they seemed to be more interested in the children then him or Mateusz. That was a relief. They were backing away and giving them space, which settled their anxiety some.
Until there was a noise.
Hair bristling, eyes wide, Varus looked down the tunnel, seeing the growing glow. What was- What was th-
"Varus. Run. Now." Caius growled. He knew something was coming. He knew it wasn't good. This was the time for them to flee. If Varus' legs locked up now, Ignacio be damned, he was going to strangle him, regardless of if they shared the same body.
Varus flinched, stumbling lightly, until Mateusz started shoving him. A momentary surge of panic from the contact arose, and then he found his legs, quickly bolting towards the alleyway they'd been shoved towards. "Wh-What is- Caius- What's-"
"Why are you asking me?! I know just as much as you! Just go! Listen to the unicorn, and get us out of here!" Caius snapped. He needed to stop asking questions. Stop listening to his head and act on instinct more. If he was afraid, if he felt like he needed to leave, he needed to listen and go. He felt the adrenaline and anxiety spike in their body when those noises had started, and had he himself been in control, he would have prepared for a fight, or ran. But Varus just stood still, letting his own head get to him.
He needed to teach him how to fucking fight. If they got out of this. He didn't know what those... Things were... He hadn't gotten a good look at them. But regardless, this freezing up needed to stop.
Varus stumbled when Caius snapped at him, but he kept his footing, and glanced back nervously. Did anyone know what that was? What was going on?

Ari
Ari was more than a little relieved when his sister rushed up to him, nuzzling into him and making strange happy noises. He was so dead when he got home, he just knew it. It was bad enough he had run into the tunnels and nearly gotten lost, but now this. He sighed, quickly trying to assess what was going on now that his little sister was close.
He was not about to lose her now that he knew she had followed him into the tunnels. If he was going to get in trouble, it would be for getting into this situation not so much because he lost his little baby sister.
The sound of the red horse grumbling about kids jerked him out of his thoughts, forcing him to look up. He glanced about, hoping that somebody very much so would take him and his sister back to Nariah. There were other things said besides that, mostly bad words, but Ari didn't care.
He had responsibilities. He needed to focus on his sister.
That is, until he was told that the group needed to get going. Flicking his ears back, the young colt realized just what the red horse was talking about.
More spirits were on the way, more than Ari had ever seen in his life. A shrill screech of panic flew through his mouth for a brief moment as he helplessly looked at the adults.
What were they going to do!?

Mateusz "You men are all the same Macho but cheap A load of wimpy unfaithfuls So predictable. No, I'm not sure that you deserve me You're lucky to be loved You should say 'thank you' to me."
He had one priority - that was to get him and the kirin to somewhere that wasn't here. Whatever it was the cried through the tunnels felt threatening, blood-curdling and wrong. It was as if the soul of Breim itself had emerged to purge the impurities. He felt like he was being directly attacked, a ploy established by the Umare to keep them out of their city.
Whatever it was, he was afraid. Mateusz wasn't from here. Caivarus, even more so. He had no realization that perhaps this strange occurrence was abnormal for the area. He didn't think that maybe the event was connected to the exaggerated teleportation into Nariah. Yes, he was afraid, but he refused to let it show.
Mateusz found coverage. It wasn't much but at least it was away from whatever the hell that was. It was an overhang to an entrance of a building, but it was something that kept him out of sight. As soon as he caught his breath, he called out.
"Caivarus?!" he shouted, searching around the vicinity with fleeting glances. "I'm over here! It's safe--!" Teu stepped forward to see if he could find the bundled kirin. Wherever he was, the unicorn prayed to whoever was listening that the other had found some safe refuge. Slowly, he retreated, pressed back against a stone pillar.

Tavius;Breim | Ties
"We need to go," Tavius had tried, he supposed, but the filly didn’t seem to understand… he’d hoped his tone would help but that wasn’t the case. When she darted off, however, his attention flickered to Ayako as the all but ran into Ari, and his ears flickered up again. They were related? Argus, that was helpful.
Stepping lightly towards the pair, and only briefly looking towards Sile and the others, he was about to speak – but the sharp sound of surprise dragged his attention to the others… and from there he followed their gazes towards the tunnel.
When he saw the pinkish spirits bursting through, his ears dropped against his neck and he stared for a second… then spurred into action and turned back to Ari and Ayako.
“If you know your way back home I can help you, your family must be so worried…”
And his voice trailed off, aware of the severity of the situation, and he smiled a little to Ari. “We should start moving, I’m sure you don’t want to be away from home at the moment!”
At that, Tavius hoped that Ari understood they needed to move… but he had no idea how to encourage the pair, as the younger foal was still ever so young… and running could be difficult as a result. His eyes flickered to Teu and Caivarus, and he flickered his ears nervously as they both fled. He hoped they would stay safe...
Were the spirits harmful? No one knew - Tavius didn’t want to risk it; and from the way everyone was splintering and panicking they didn’t want to either. They needed to flee… but at the same time, he didn’t want to leave anyone alone.

╬ ⧖ C A I V A R U S ⧖ ╬ "I didn't care if he was a genius or a fucking idiot, he was rotting away, and it wasn't fun to watch."
Varus had a pang of fear for the small children that had been with the group. But if he tried to turn back, Caius would likely scream at him. Swallowing, he forced himself to not look back. There were others there. The children should be alright...
Stumbling through the streets, they turned down a thin passageway between two buildings, standing, trembling, leaning against the wall. Were they safe? Wai- Where was- Head shooting up, Varus quickly turned and peered out the alleyway. Where was the unicorn?
"If he fell behind, it's his fault." Caius mumbled. "We're not responsible for that... Casualties occur in conflict..."
"H-He's the only... Only Kawaru... We can't just-"
"If he fell behind. It's. His. Fault. We can't worry about him, you need to keep us safe!"
Ears flattening, Varus hesitated to reply to Caius. Usually his headmate wasn't this abrasive and sharp... Was he also stressed out about the situation? Ears flicking, Varus heard the voice of the unicorn. He was okay- "H-Here!" He called back, trotting out and looking up and down the street until he saw the red form hiding under an overhang.
"Varus, we need to stay hidd-"
"He said it's safe! W-We don't need to hide!" Varus hissed back, quickly hurrying over to Mateusz and also taking shelter under the overhang. "...Do you know... What that was?" He cautiously asked, shifting anxiously, tail rasping lightly while curled around his back leg. He really needed his pipe... He didn't- He wanted to forget this, he wanted to go to bed...
"...At least we're away from the Umare...They wanted to bring in the authorities..." Caius quietly said.
"...Yes..." Varus agreed, his thoughts dwelling on the small children. He...He hoped they were alright... They might be Umare but... They were small and... Whatever those things were, they wouldn't be able to fight them.

admin notes A large, rather intimidating spirit approaches, almost resembling a large beetle, chittering and screeching as it draws near, a small "army" of spirits following behind. It seems to notice the larger group of equines, and begins heading directly toward them....

Ari
Relief flooded through Ari as the kind horse mentioned that they would take him and his sister home. It was good to hear that at least somebody was willing to help them. With a quite smile, the stallion looking more than a little guilty.
"Mom and dad aren't home, but if we get further into Naria, I can direct us to my Aunt's place." I'm so dead. He thought to himself once more. If the horses escorted him back to his parents place, they both were in for a stern talking to, though Ari was more than a little aware that he was going to be in more trouble than his baby sister. He should have known better, and he knew that.
He was only able to get so far in his self-pity before a noise caused him to perk his ears. He had never heard beetle's chattering before, and was even less familiar with the loud screeching or the shape of the of a beetle in general. As the creature appeared before the group, obviously a spirit, the young stallion shot behind the larger horses, uncertain of a better place to go. He just didn't want to look that thing in the eyes.
This was why he was in this mess to begin with! With a shrill shriek, he ducked, attempting to hide as best he could.

The tiny filly was more then glad to be at her brothers side, even prancing on the spot happily for a moment as one of the older equines joined them. She couldn't quite make out what the stallion said or what Ari spoke of in response but when he glanced down at her she could tell it was something to do with her. She gave them both the brightest smile from where she stood beside her brother, flicking her ears as she whined softly, tail wagging back and forth before the whole place descended into chaos At first she hadnt heard the spirits but when they did come she found herself ready to flee but not quite able to, instead she hid beneath her shaking brother, ears pinned and tears in her eyes. She screamed loudly in fear as the spirits whizzed past, darting back and forth at anyone they thought would be fun to terrorize, including her! That's when he brother ducked for cover, without him there she was a sitting duck. Her heart sank and for a moment she was in mortal danger but her legs moved before her brain could and she leapt into the air, turning mid air and landing with a soft clop. Once down they threw her at Ari and she forced her way under his wings, and cried, she wanted to go home this was scary!!

Tavius;Breim | Ties
"I don't like this," Tavius was looking towards Ari, nodding lightly and smiling a little in an attempt of reassurance, but he couldn’t help but feel faintly apprehensive. Something told him that they needed to go, especially so with the younger filly… she seemed relaxed now that she was with her sibling, and the draft stallion looked to them with a happier expression. “Okay, we can go to the center of Nariah… we’ll need to travel by hoof because the teleporta-”
He was cut off when he heard the chittering and he saw that the pair ducked as if to hide behind him, and Tavius turned his head to stare almost right into the pale eyes of the beetle spirit. And there were more nearby… ears dropping against his neck, Tavius cleared his throat and spoke softly.
“Why don’t you two start moving, quickly, and I’ll make sure they don’t hurt you?”
He started to step backwards, still his gaze focused on the spirits as they advanced. He truly had no idea what he should do, he didn’t know if they were harmful, but he couldn’t just assume they weren’t given their behaviour… so Tavius gave one glance swiftly towards the two children before taking another few steps backwards. The creatures were advancing quickly… and he couldn’t stop the cold shiver that swept across his spine. By now, he’d chosen to ignore the Kawaru, they seemed resourceful and capable… he hoped they’d find their way back to Sterling safely.

Ari
The young colt felt his sister push herself under his wings as soon as he hid behind the other horses, his hear beating frantically in his chest as he continued to worry over what needed to be done. If it wasn't for Tavius's calming voice telling him to get moving. He didn't want to go anywhere in that moment, but eventually he managed to push his feet in a direction that was further away from the skittering spirits, his teke gently nudging his sister to follow as he tried his best to keep her in the shelter of his wings.
He wanted nothing more than for this nightmare to end, but in order to do that, he'd need to at least ensure he and his sister were safe. What options did they have? The adults (meaning Tavius because let's face it, there weren't many others that had taken interest in the two younger children) didn't seem to fully know what to do, and that made Ari feel even worse. If only he could be big and strong and help.
But he couldn't. He wasn't exactly a critical thinker at this point in his life, though the challenge of trying to clear the spirits was... a brain puzzle of sorts. Oh Argus, he hoped that this could be fixed at some point.
"Stick with me." He whispered to his sister, hoping she would do just that.

Mateusz "You men are all the same Macho but cheap A load of wimpy unfaithfuls So predictable. No, I'm not sure that you deserve me You're lucky to be loved You should say 'thank you' to me."
Black eyes lifted from the chiseled stone as Caivarus arrived. It was unintentional, but his shoulders had slumped with relief. As someone who always had a companion, be it a bedside client or a few stashed-away slaves, loneliness seeped easily into him.
Teu constantly looked around for a few more seconds before realizing that the area was fairly vacant. He could still hear the Umare, the spirits crying out. Hearing the other speak was the only thing that drew his attention away from it, even if it was just for a moment.
"I... don't know," he replied, glancing around the corner of the building to look into the empty street. "They must have something to do with Argus. Y-you felt it too, right?" It was the first time he had stuttered in front of someone (at least, unintentionally). It made his face flare with embarrassment and he shook his head. "Like the caves themselves were shaking with rage."
He was still for only a moment longer when he heard the scream. A filly, one from the group he had recklessly left behind. Something tugged at his heartstrings and his body buckled from beneath him. Surely she was safe.
