VEDA || TIES - APPRENTICE || HE / HIM
Stumbling alongside his group of rag-tag horses-- Healers, Ties, Magi, Priests, Uncut, and even Outsiders, Veda hung the closest to Casius, a horse he held in the highest of esteem. Never before had the young Apprentice been so close to those that were so... respected, within the Umare community, being a simple commoner himself. Weariness crept within his bones despite the excitement that fizzled in his brain, thoughts spinning 'round and 'round his skull. Would he really get to talk to Argus? Would he maybe get a gift from the god themself? Would the horses be granted with the guidance they were looking for, or would their prayers fall flat? Uncertain in what was going to exactly happen once they reached the temple, it seemed Veda wouldn't be able to question this much longer. Standing in front of the Temple of the Arcane, Veda tapped his hooves nervously on the stones below him. Looking towards the two Priests in their group, he spoke, "What now?" He had visited temples and shrines before, but never like this per-say. Hunger and nerves clawed at his belly like a tiger would play with it's victim, uncertain of the fate that await he and his group. He was so tired from travelling for a near month, even if it felt like years, but Veda knew he couldn't rest here. He had to speak to Argus. -- Post I ... 231 words

Qing || Priestess || She/HerFinally standing there, at the entrance to the Temple, Qing felt overwhelmed with emotions. She never imagined that she would attempt the month-long journey to the Temple of the Arcane, especially at her age. But here she was, in front of the greatest Argus Temple in Sirith, perhaps even in the entire world. She felt like singing in joy. Or perhaps crying? Emotions were difficult, particularly with all the arcane energy about them. Her empathy talent and Psychic Manipulation blessing weren't helping either, as her heightened sense of emotion made the nervous tension in the room seem electric. She took a few deep breaths to calm her nerves. "There is nothing here that could hurt you. Argus will protect you, and They will help us all." She reassured herself.
Veda's voice startled her out of her thoughts. Come to think of it, she was not exactly sure what they should do next. What she really wanted to do was have a lie-down and rest her aching joints, but she doubted anyone else would be able to contain their excitement long enough for her to do so. She assumed they would pray, as that was the only way for anyone to talk to the gods as far as she was aware, but otherwise this was unknown territory to her.
"I would assume it is the same as prayer at a shrine" Qing said with some hesitation, not sure if her voice would be be giving away her lack of knowledge towards the temple. She looked around at the other religious horses in the group for conformation of her suggestion, "I say we should enter, pray, and hope They hear our call."

SILVER "Nothing changes, if nothing changes."
The matter of the fact was that he had been dragged along. In light of recent events, his mother had volunteered herself to join in a pilgrimage to the Temple of the Arcane, seeking solace and answers over the death of their firstborn. Silver's family was still somewhat shattered over Shouhei's death, who three months ago today was crushed when hell broke loose over Nariah and the earthquakes plundered their beautiful home. Rather than allow her to go alone, Silver's father had forced the boy to join her as an escort, hoping that he might also be able to find some peace as well. Ikuto stayed behind and held down the fort, and Silver left Pixie behind, deeming that it would be safer for the little bird to stay home with him.
It really was a shame -- they had a doubter among them, in the form of the most innocent and unsuspecting face. Silver was not a devout colt, at least not anymore -- he wouldn't even call himself a follower. So why did the child agree to come along? Was it simply out of a necessity to comfort his grieving mother? Or was there more to it? Deep down, perhaps he desired a bit of proof; either proof that Argus wasn't the answer, or some childish desire that maybe the god might come down from the starscape and wash the blindness from his eyes.
Hopeful prayers and wishes from more faithful followers, including his mother, are heard softly on his ears. They make Silver's stomach twist and his heart lurch with regret and pity. So much pain they are in. So much fear. He only wishes he knew the way. Hiding sadness behind a neutral expression, Silver hangs close to his mother's side, ears flattened against his head.

By their very nature, these walls were claustrophobic, cloying, and suffocating. Having first interacted with her god on the surface, now, forced underneath it, resurrected in the belly of the earth she feels unwelcome. She feels like an outsider in a herd she has been devoted to for centuries more than any other in this lifetime. But she was absent for so many of those centuries that now she merely feels… a stranger to her own culture. She could hear the thoughts of those around her, not definably, no she was not so interested as to listen to the free-flowing mind, but she was able to understand at the base of everyone’s mind, the fatigue and underlying excitement that came with approaching the Temple.
The Temple… was beautiful, striking in appearance, but it did not impress Kuebiko. It did not make her feel as if she were returning home. Her pilgrimage was unsatisfactory in that regard. Despite, she was able to shuffle her disappointment in seeing a mere building and instead focus on the energy of her god. Argus had walked among her herd so many years in the past… their absence, in that regard was noticeable, but the energy they held within these walls was enough to put Kuebiko at ease, if only a little.
She wished Hoshi were beside her, guiding her to understand the nature of those around her. She was still unused to modern Breim. She didn’t know if she would ever be used to modern Breim. So, she held her head high and haughty, her eyes sharp and observant. She flicked her ears at each spoken word before she too opened her mouth, vainly attempting to keep her words from slurring together, “Argus is always listening… there is not need to hope that they hear.” She commented in response to Qing, a string of drool hanging from her mouth. She continued, her voice sharp and judgmental, “Where is your faith?” She refrained from moving towards the Temple steps any further. Even though she had critiqued the priestess, she stood now deciding whether or not she should enter the Temple herself. She had failed her herd, last she was alive, last she had openly prayed towards her god. Perhaps… she doubted that the Temple, that Argus, would welcome her and her faith back.

Casius;Breim | Priest Kindness trumps all, except when it doesn't The Priest felt a sense of calm drift over him as the group of treasured herd members made their way steps before their God's temple. Relief had graced Casius when they had gathered to make the journey to ask for clarity after event after event tried to shake them all down. Casius himself felt the brunt of most of it as he experienced the tragedies then did his best to pick up the emotional pieces of those who came to his shrine to seek the guidance of Argus channeled through Casius. Admittedly he was exhausted, it felt like only yesterday that the Priest was focusing the healing energies of just Cascade, but he loved it, by Argus' grace it was rewarding.
Coming back to the present, Casius felt the harsh emotions the shattered crystal had thrust upon him slowly ease and he could feel gentle happiness once more. He looked over to the young apprentice that had stuck by his side throughout the journey and gave him a warm, reassuring smile. His gaze also traveled over to their more peculiar companion, the mare that was always shadowing the renowned scientist, Hoshi. There was a niggling in his brain that told him he had met this mare before, but for the moment he just couldn't pick where it was. He nodded along to his fellow Priestess' idea, respecting her age. But he had ideas of his own. Stepping forward to the front of the group, Casius extended his right hoof and lowered his body to the ground in a respectful bow, showing his respect for both his God and the Temple in which they were believed to reside. Feeling connected, Casius looked back to the group and gave them an encouraging nod. "You are known here." He told them and proceeded to enter the Temple as he had done a time before, feeling soothed by the incense the floated in the air.

G E M S T O N E ✦ Breim | Uncut ✦
"A gem cannot be polished without friction, nor a man perfected without trials." ~Lucius Annaeus Seneca ✦ Nothing seemed to go right the past few months...
First the earthquakes, which had gone and claimed many herd members, which almost included her Grandmother. And even now, the donkey was still fighting to survive the injuries she had acquired. And then the crystals...the crystals that did much to help the healers and...well, everyone in Breim survive. And it was because of this that Gemstone decided to go on this journey, a journey of great importance. A journey that she hoped would redefine life not just for herself, but for everyone in Breim.
Even throughout everything she had witnessed and endured, the child still clung to her God like she believed everyone from Breim should. And seeing all the horses, old and young and those in between, traveling for weeks on end to make it to the Temple only solidified her divine belief. And she didn’t have much of a choice at this point. If Argus failed to hear their call, nothing good would come of it, she was sure. But she believed. She had to. And she definitely couldn’t break down crying this time…
Although she stayed by herself while surrounded by other equines, she had her Devil Birds, Tama and Kei, keeping her company. And although she said little or next to nothing, there was comfort she could take in the few familiar faces. There was, of course, Casius, the priest she had been trapped with months ago under the eyes of the legendary guardians, and then there was Silver, an old face from when she was still in school. Everyone else was new faces, though that bothered the girl little.
When the group had finally, finally reached their destination, the child let out a long sigh of relief. Although she firmly believed Argus could hear their prayers from anywhere, she knew the importance of shrines and temples. Long and rounded ears shifted to hear the others speak, particularly Veda, the apprentice who had been nearly clinging to Casius’ side the entire time. She felt the next step was simple, but she said nothing as others spoke. Qing spoke the thoughts lingering on her mind, and as she stepped forwards, she paused to look at the Outsider. Usually, Outsiders weren’t followers of the Herds god. But this one was. And they weren’t usually this pushy about faith either.
It was needed, though. The sooner they got inside and prayed, the sooner that maybe, just maybe, Argus would hear them. It would be a dream to be graced with Their presence… Casius spoke, and it was that that finally spurred Gemstone into some real action.
“We must not keep Them waiting. I’m going in.” With whatever grace and dignity she could muster, Gemstone quickly hurried forth, her birds rising from her back into the air to follow her within.

Qing || Priestess || She/Her Qing was utterly appalled by Kuebiko's disrespect. Who did this outsider think they were, saying such things? Qing wasn't entirely sure where in the world Kuebiko was from, but she doubted they were from anywhere that was even close to as devoted to Argus as the Briem herd. With her own age and experience combined with Cassius', they were clearly the experts here, not this stranger. But as much as she wanted to retaliate to Kuebiko's comments, she simply took a few breaths and let it slide. Getting angry would solve nothing. An angry priestess would not promote the sense of community and faith they needed upon entering the temple. Qing knew that half of the things she was feeling were only made more extreme by the arcane energy released recently, and it would be in poor taste to act on them on impulse. The mare sighed and pushed them to the back of her mind. She was tired, and besides, her emotions did not matter right now. She had the other horses in their party to guide.
"Thank you, Kuebiko," She said as she walked past the black horse to the temple's entrance. "You were correct, I misspoke. Argus is always watching." The priestess smiled at them, hoping to hide how they had offended her.
As she approached the front steps she stopped and bowed, following Cassius' lead. In such a sacred place it was better to be safe and act as respectful to Argus as possible, lest They take offence by something and refuse to answer. As she returned to her feet, she saw Gemstone hurry past into the temple, eager to enter. While she wished that they all bowed to show respect to Argus, her heart was warmed by the foal's enthusiasm. It was rare to see any younger horses to take such an interest in religion, especially since she started working at the Southern Shrine. With that thought in mind, Qing took a breath, braced herself, and entered the shrine.
Nothing could have prepared her for the magnificence of it all.

Boris;Talori | Briem Emissary “Honestly, if you were any slower, you'd be going backward.”
Boris didn't know why he was here. The Talorian ambassador had left Tafari at home after their rushed confession and had been invited along with this group. The journey was a month long, and he had used the time to think up what he was going to do. But today, it appeared that they had arrived.
Someone questioned what they were doing now. Boris flicked his ears, looking away from the group to the shrine ahead. The young ambassador ruffled his wings, which ached to stretch and claw at the sky. But Boris resisted the urge, merely standing behind the Briemians and watching their movements. The woman who was missing part of her face spoke, drool dropping from between her teeth. The pegasus flinched a bit, sighing softly.
After a moment, a priest stepped forwards, speaking to the group, and walking up the stairs. Boris watched this movement, wary. Movement towards the temple made him flick back his ears.
“I dont like this.” The golden pegasus mumbled, dropping his ears. Unease made his legs twitch as he paced in place, tossing his head. After a moment to decide, the Talorian made for the steps, belining into the building to avoid the gazes of the rest of the assembled horses. He knew he didn't belong here.

SILVER "Nothing changes, if nothing changes."
"Where is your faith?" He heard the outsider snap, and for a moment Silver swore she was critiquing him. He did not wear his faith on his sleeve, and that included his lack of it; as far as he knew, the only individual that knew of his growing doubt was his dimwitted cockatiel -- and thankfully, Pixie was good at keeping secrets, being a bird. For a moment Silver dares to turn his head toward the back of the pack, where he is sure her voice was heard from. On this month-long journey, they had been joined by a variety of faces; Gemstone, a filly whom Silver recognized from his school days. Riviera, who Silver swears he saw purchasing silks from his family (or was it her mother?) A Talorian ambassador. The outsider, and the elderly priestess whom she critiqued.
There are other faces, but he does not recognize them. They must be from other Umare cities, or different districts of Nariah, he reasons. Either way, all of them had one thing in common: They wanted answers.
The strong scent of incense wafts in the air, and it burns in his nose. It alone is enough to tell them that they had arrived. Hiding misty eyes behind his glasses, Silver tilts his head down and tries to rub them clean. If the stress wasn't going to give him a headache, then the pungent smell certainly would. His mother corrals him to the temple stairway.
"Go up, sweetie. You're in the presence of Argus now," Sakuya urges, softly. "Bow your head." Her words almost wanted to make him scoff inside, but Silver would have to be mad to ever do such a thing. Brows still furrowed over turquoise hues, he sways his tail and begins to climb his way up, his mother following close behind.

VEDA || TIES - APPRENTICE || HE / HIM Patience wearing thin as the group of horses stood there and spoke for a few drawn out minutes, the colt furrowed his brow as the Outsider, Keubeiko. His faith? If any of us had lost our faith, I believe they would have turned back long before now, he thought to himself with an internal snort. Who did she think she was? Some horse who was the lapdog of Argus themselves? Turning away and nodding up to Casius. Walking into the temple with his head bowed low, Veda held his deep brown eyes shut. What would be there when he opened them? He almost feared what he was to see. However it seemed that when he opened his eyes, he had been blessed with holy visions. A gemstone ceiling rose above Veda with the soft warmth of incense burning within his nostrils, small yet still gorgeous fountains in the distant parts of the temple. Letting out a small breath, he store up at the ceiling and felt a smile creep across his face. He felt... welcomed, even if Argus had not spoken a word to him. The sound of tinkling bells rung in his ears, he turned back to Qing with a questioning expression. "The shrine?"-- Post II ... 205 words

As scared as she had been when she crystal shattered she couldn't help the anxiety she felt right now being so far away from her baby. She and Jaya had eventually made the decision to have a child together and now they were miles away from their little girl and hadnt seen her for weeks, its had been the longest month of Riviera's life and all she could do to stay sane was to stick as close to her husbands side during the trip as physically possible. Nerves prickled up her back as they finally reached the temple, causing her to suck in a sharp breath as the temples radiating light shone down on her Her teke had been unstable since the earthquake and now because of the Crystal's shattering her emotions were even more unstable then before. Her only comfort was Jaya and he had been so amazing throughout the trip... she just hoped little Ayako was okay in the hands of her grandparents. The spotted mares ears flicked as some members of their group spoke up, there seemed to already be tension in the air and for a moment she stayed silent, stuck to Jayas side before she spoke up to if a little softly, "...There is plenty of faith among us. But Argus is weary... otherwise she would have saved our Crystal"

The stallion's jade eyes glanced across the backs of the group, listening silently as terse words and reassurance was exchanged between the Priests and one who seemed to be an outsider - the black mare with her scarred face. She seemed defensive, and eager to assert her position within the small band of Argus' children. They had all come for Argus, hadn't they? There was no need to jostle for their affection. Others begn making their way inside the temple, a black filly trotted up the steps, and fellow pegasi brushed past almost nerovusly. He didn't act like the Umare, or what he'd seen of the Kawaru. Ear flicking towards Riviera as she spoke, he dipped his head in agreement. "We have all proven our faith by making this journey. A month long trek in Argus' name is no small feat, especially for some of us." He brushed his wing against Riviera's gently, praying that Ayako wouldn't cause her grandparents too much grief. He then turned to the shrine, bowing briefly before the steps of the Arcane temple. It was sacred, no amount of effort spared in its creation, and it was to be respected, as were the Priests and Priestesses of Argus.

Kuebiko did not miss the flash of ire from the priestess that addressed her. Nor did she deign to respond to her words with little more than the curl of her upper lip and a pair of narrowed eyes. She flicked her ears at the low-voiced chatter that resumed and resolutely stayed put, waiting until the majority of the group had passed her to even think of ascending the steps of the Temple herself. She bowed slightly, but did not drop to her knees completely. It felt like worshipping and idol. Like worshipping and paying respects to the building and not the god. Yet, she conceded that respect must be given to the conduits through which her god might operate, so it was only for that purpose that she lowered her eyes. She could recall Hoshi telling her, albeit distractedly, something about the Temple itself, and why it was held in such regard as it was, but with the onslaught of headaches and the newness of the world around her, Kuebiko hadn’t remembered what that particular fact was, and so she remained blind to the belief that Argus was said to sleep within the ceiling.
Her ears furthered flattened with Jaya’s words. The voices of everyone around her simply grated on her head. She could feel the migraine coming on, undoubtably it would cause her much grief in the next few hours. Steadfastly, she shoved her pain to the back of her mind and began her ascent of the stairs, lurching after the first step from dizziness.
Stepping into the Temple, despite her displacement in a time that was not her own… it felt like stepping into a home. She still reserved her previous judgments of it, but she could admit that there was familiarity here, if only because it was likened to her god’s presence. “Argus,” She spoke their name under her breath, quietly, devoutly, with a touch of emotion too deep for anyone other than she and her god to understand. “It has been a while.”

Boris;Talori | Briem Emissary “Honestly, if you were any slower, you'd be going backward.”
Boris stood in the entrance. His eyes adjusted slowly behind his new glasses. And the pegasus’s breath caught as he stared up at the temple. This could be likened to the Divine's personally manned shrine back home. But Boris, who had long since renounced Talori as more than his birthplace, thought it was far more beautiful.
Intricate tapestry and incense, blowing in a soft breeze. He had known of this place from mere books before, scoffed at Argus being asleep within its ceiling. But here, staring at the splendor itself, he was floored. This felt like the place a god could sleep. Cascade had her pool. Argus had this and Boris felt like he was drowning, far more than he had in the supposed presence of the wave mother. Here, hoofsteps echoed off the earthen walls, as the Briemians wandered past him, staring and murmuring to themselves. Two more pegasi, a married couple if he had to guess, brushed by his haunches, one speaking of their journey. They would be welcomed, the pegasus spoke. They had journeyed this far.
I am not of the cave and arcane. I am of the sea, no matter how much i wish it wasn't so.
Boris dared move, a single hoofstep forward. It rang too loud for his ears, causing him to wince and stop. Then, noticing there was no attention currently on him, Boris moved a little more. Then more. Until he stood in the temple proper, not haunting its doorway like a feathered specter.
“Argus” He merely breathed, legs trembling slightly as the pegasus stared up at the ceiling, calling to a diety he trusted.
You may not know me, but I know you. These people cite your wisdom. Your care. My people do the same, but to the point that they care none for my feathered hide. This is not there. What of your knowledge Argus? I wish to know you, and let you know me in turn.

Chaos buzzed around him, but the professor was silent. The calamity that followed the shattering of the crystal was too much for him, so he was happy to escape, though the stress stretched much further than he had thought. Nariah's crystal, it seemed, radiated not only power but also serenity, a calmness he yearned for once again. Going in, Daigo knew the journey would be long, but the strangeness of his party drew out the journey even more. They were a collage of strangers and he remained quiet around them, worried he would step on too many toes. Though, in his silence, Daigo learned many things about his newly formed family of misfits. Nonetheless, Daigo kept his head low and followed the rest of the group, leaving a couple of meters between them. The tunnels widened and shrunk often, molding the procession as it traveled. As the party began to discuss the essence of what was and wasn't faith, Daigo watched the youngest of their group. Silver was his name and it suit him well. The foal seemed to shut down at the mention of faith. As the others began to turn to enter the temple, the Talorian muttered about his uneasiness to himself, "I don't like this" "Birds don't often like to be caged." Daigo offered as he passed him. Ominous, yes, but the professor wasn't concerned about his clarity. He had a feeling his words would soon be forgotten. Upon entry to the shrine, the air seemed to change and become heavier, warmer. The beauty of the shrine pulled the god's name from many lips, and most eyes fell upwards. The Majesty of the shine was not known to him, but its grandeur rivaled the library he had discovered so many weeks ago. Here he felt a sense of familiarity. The grullo's own faith was there but not celebrated. He was a prodigy as a child, but tradition was woven into his life. Daigo did not flaunt his faith, but practiced and celebrated things privately. He signed, joining the others, "Be kind with your words, a god sleeps here," he directed at no one in particular. He paused for a moment, "and with your thoughts."370

Casius;Breim | Priest Kindness trumps all, except when it doesn't Casius' ears flickered with minor irritation as the group bounced their doubt around, although he sighed as he noted he was being dramatic. They were all stressed from the recent events and everyone's nerves were certainly frazzled.
He forced himself to soothe his emotions as he entered the home of Argus. The Priest always found comfort in being inside a temple smaller than his own, it gave him a moment to connect with Argus for himself rather than being the religious conduit as was his role amongst his herd. Whether it was the strength of the herd's belief or perhaps whether Argus truly resided in the temple, but one could not deny the strong Arcane energy that felt as though it rolled off Argus' body directly.
Thinking about it, Casius just hadn't been able to shake the thought that he knew Kuebiko from somewhere. It was as he made his way to the center of the temple to bow before the statue of Argus that the vision of her face minus the, uh, unusual scars and missing sections of her face and it hit him that it was through another plane. As he made the realisation, he noticed the pain that struck across her face and he made a mental note to ask her if she would like some herbal remedies or even to be touched by Cascade through his Healing Regeneration, he was always eager to stretch his blessing's boundaries to find how he could best benefit his herd.
He didn't pay much mind to the others around him. They were free to explore the temple, not many got to witness its spectacular ancient beauty the way the Priest had before. He himself wanted to empty his mind to a completely blank state so he would be open to receive any sign their God may send. His body language invited any who wished to join alongside him.

If it hadnt been for Jaya's near constant reassurance Riviera was sure she would have broken down weeks back but with him just being here it seemed to eased her worry enough that she was sure no mental breakdown was coming. The crystal ceiling above bathed her body in a calming light, causing her to inhale and let out a long breath. She had only ever been here once as a child when Ari had been in utero, her mother having forced her to beg Argus forgiveness for her deed. This reunion with the temple however was for a different reason and as Jaya brushed his wing against hers she found herself gently nudging his cheek with her nose before moving forward to stand at Cassius' left side She flicked an ear back as the other pointed towards Cassius, keeping her ears peeled incase someone needed to talk to her. "This place is still beautiful she stated quietly, bowing down to the statue of Argus before them. The building had a little more age to it then when it had those years ago but it was still as lovely as ever. Her nostrils flared as she took in the insence, glancing across as Cassius stood still at her side, "Do you think Argus will hear us?. I fear in her weary state she may not be able to help... I dont doubt her presence... I am just afraid she will do nothing. She is weary"

G E M S T O N E ✦ Breim | Uncut ✦
"A gem cannot be polished without friction, nor a man perfected without trials." ~Lucius Annaeus Seneca ✦ The filly decided to go down her own path. Perhaps it was because of the way the loss of the crystals was affecting her, or simply because she was desperate, the child had gone inside and immediately sought the best possible place to kneel down and pray. The others had filed in behind her as she looked around. They could do what they wanted, she knew what she felt she had to do and she wasn’t about to let any of the adults stop her.
She was briefly aware of Daigo’s comment about birds, and she thought it was a comment about her birds but the thought passed quickly. Her Devil Birds were perfectly happy with her, they never tried to leave her before and she did not expect them to leave her anytime soon. And she hoped their presence would further beckon Argus to their realm.
When she found a spot she was not only comfortable with, but one that she felt Argus could hear her at the best possible frequency, she got into the appropriate position. Knees folded under, her head brought down to the floor so her forehead rested against the ground, the child fell silent. Her birds stood alongside her, watching her with their trio of eyes. She closed her eyes, took in a deep breath, and began praying. Anyone was welcome to join her as was custom.
Argus...please hear me. Please hear us.
Almost immediately she felt her eyes well with tears. Back home, back in Nariah, her grandmother was still struggling. Argus just had to answer her call. They had to. She fought back her tears by forcing the thoughts of her grandmother back.
We need your help. Please help...we have come so far…
She tried to hone in on mental images of the great God. Ones she had seen in school, or in books, statues, and statuettes. Anything she could possibly do to bring Argus to them, she tried.

SILVER "Nothing changes, if nothing changes."
He listened to the words and conversations of his pack, yet still did not utter a word as he stayed close to his mother's flank. Between the mumblings of other Breimians, he heard the soft tinkle of chimes and bells. Their echoes bounce between the rooms, in order to instill a sense of tranquility throughout the temple halls. Crystals the size of a horse's head are embedded in the walls, illuminating the halls with soft colors. The pungent smell of incense continues to burn strongly from within. It's enough to penetrate his sinuses.
When Riviera addresses her uncertainties, he hears his mother speak up, firm but polite. "We mustn't doubt our god. I am certain that they will be willing to answer our questions, so long as we are loyal to them. Even if they are weary now; eventually, they answer." Then, with a breathy sigh, Sakuya keens her head up to the gemstone ceiling. She is a devout mare, that much Silver knows, and perhaps the chaos of emotion riveting through the herd was the cause of the tears that began to bead from her eyes.
"Mother?" Silver finally peeped, caution drifting in his voice. "Forgive me." Sakuya turns her head back toward her herd mates briefly, and then bows her head. "All my life I had dreamed of coming to this place. To find myself in the presence of Argus -- oh, how rude of me ... " She scolds herself for the raw display of emotion. The mare had inner demons and fears that her son did not understand, but knew existed.
His chest hurt at her words. He almost feels ashamed, hurt even, that in a room full of faithfuls, he was the only doubter. A part of Silver still wanted to believe, or at least, wanted an explanation as to why Argus had abandoned him. Where were they? What happened to them when the fires destroyed their home, and the rocks crushed his brother? How many prayers have gone unanswered? How many horses were hurting?
Why did you give me this gift, if you cannot stand by our side?

Standing in the archway of the great temple, the barred stallion couldn't help but feel small. The gentle tinkling of distant bells was comforting, but his senses were affronted by the pungent insence. Had no-one paused to consider that there could be too much? The words of the band's leader reached his ears, and he was momentarily distracted from the scent. "Be kind with your words, a god sleeps here.. And with your thoughts."The shadowed stallion was right. Had he forgotten the tales of Argus' presence within these halls? Despite his wrinkled muzzle, he maintained his course into the grandness of the temple. Moving as one with Riviera, he followed her as she lingered beside Casius, bowing herself before the great carved deity. The insence pricked at his eyes, causing him to rub at them with his teke. Blinking the mist from his gaze, he too knelt to bow briefly before the shrine, his forehead touched gently to the cool stone floor. As he propped himself back up, he could only reach out to Argus with feeling. He had countless questions for the God, but with so many others present, they were sure to ask similarly. Quietly, he drew one of the Magnolias from the braids in his tail, and set it down before the polished idol. "They will hear us.. We can only hope that they answer." He offered slowly, eyes resting on the pale flower. post: #2WC: #236

admin notes As you go about your business in the temple, the world seems to shift suddenly, as if everything is somehow innately more than it had been. You look around, noticing the sweet smell of incense growing stronger and the gentle chime of silver bells ringing softly unprompted. Even the mural of Argus on the wall seems to somehow be more alive, even as it sits unmoving.
While nothing physical has changed, you find yourself feeling more vulnerable than ever before. As if your very soul is being searched by some unknown being, looking over every fear and doubt you hide within.

Daigo's comment was registered by some, taking different meanings with the ears it fell on. The professor typically took great care with the meaning of his word, but he had grown quite tired with the buzz of the energy surges. He didn't have the energy to be as concise as he normally was, hence the reason he was here. While, thinking, Daigo's eyes drifted up. As beautiful as they were, these gems encrusted on the ceiling could easily bring serenity to Nariah. How easy it would be to pry one from is place and take it home, but how controversial it would be, too. Argus could hear his thoughts, that Daigo knew, but he also knew he was right. At some point beauty and tradition needed to be set aside so life could function. Regardless, Daigo moved his eyes from the ceiling to the birds that were in their party. Daigo spared a thought to his blessing. How marvelous it would be to use The Sight to truly look at these gemstones up close. The others talked about something in regards to Argus. Daigo removed himself from isolation and finally decided to become a part of the group. "Gods do not tire easily, but they are only as strong as our own faith allows them to be. After all, what is a god to a non believer?" he spared a look to the youngest among them. "We need to focus on the matter at hand-" Suddenly words became hard to manifest, as if the air around him was pressing him into the ground. The energy was different than that of the city, but no less intense. It seemed to be threading through his very essence. Daigo let out a difficult sigh. Something was here, and he trusted it to be The God they came to see, but some hint of malice weaved its way into his mind, whether it was of the god or not, the thought was there. Daigo was slow to trust, but Gods rarely needed a mortals trust, if that's what this presence was. The grullo swallowed and looked to the others, trying to gauge their deepest thoughts through their faces. Daigo thought to close himself from this entity, but he didn't know how. Instead, he tried to maintain focus on the physical, hoping somehow that wold help him maintain himself.

SILVER "Nothing changes, if nothing changes."
The energy shifts within the blink of an eye, and suddenly the scent of incense permeates with greater strength. He cannot explain how, why, or when, but he feels the silver hairs on the back of his withers raise, and his body shudder in intimidation. It felt as though he was being searched by hidden eyes, their gaze icy and sharp like freezing daggers. Prying at the innards of his soul, creeping through every weakness and intention hidden deep within. Like the ceaseless wave of emotions that had been plaguing his herd for weeks, he found himself unable to dispel this curious feeling.
All the sudden, Silver felt afraid. For many weeks, doubt had prevailed in his uncertainty, but now, the superstitious child that he had once been surfaced for a moment's pass, that same uncertainty and curiosity filling into his head. Why else could he be feeling this way than because he was in the presence of a god themselves? Surely not, why should they have answered him now, when they had never done so before? Why do they come after he has already lost his hope? A single glimpse of inner conflict dares to surface in his turquoise eyes. He wants to believe he is right, and yet --
"Oh, my god," His mother's words choke out in a gasp. He looks up for a moment and finds tears beading her violet eyes as she stares heavenward toward the crystal ceiling. She does not speak again, only shudder as her gaze remains fixed to the ceiling, transfixed. Then at last, she tears her gaze away, and cranes her head down to the earth. Her eyes seal shut while she mouths four mute words: "They must be here."

"A gem cannot be polished without friction, nor a man perfected without trials." ~Lucius Annaeus Seneca ✦ She was so focused. All she could do was pray. And pray. And pray.
The words from the others fell on deaf ears. She couldn’t hear the pious words of the group, save poor Silver, and she didn’t even notice when Daigo had finished speaking, or rather, was unable to continue speaking. What she did notice, was herself. It was one thing to already be self-aware, but it almost felt like she was watching herself be dissected, every little thought and emotion picked apart and examined under thousands of eyes.
She had barely noticed the incense or chimes of bells, but the smell burned her nostrils and the sounds clattered in her ears as if they were within her very brain. She felt like she was being cast in the brightest of lights and the darkest of shadows, mimicking the very colors of her pelt. And maybe it was because of the crystals effect on her brain, but the child felt a strange sense of calm, almost as if she were dosing after a steaming cup of tea.
With her head still plastered to the floor, all tension that had coursed through her small body was melting away. It was an odd feeling of bliss that she suddenly wished she could just be dragged into, like the distant memory of the embraces she once got from her parents. It felt enormous and extraordinarily tiny all at once. Everything and nothing.
For a moment she thought maybe she had fallen asleep while praying, but when she mustered enough energy to look up, she could see a very tense Daigo looking about him at the rest of them. She could barely make out Silver’s mother choke out the words ‘Oh my god’, and it was those three words that had the girl rising and staring above her. The trio of eyes from each of her birds followed her gaze. Her breath caught in her throat. Was this feeling…
“...A-Argus? Argus are you with us?” Of course, they were with them. They were with them at all times. But this...this was surreal.
“I can feel you...I can feel you more than I ever had in my entire life...please say something!” Though her words seemed demanding, the pleading in her cracking voice was obvious. Tears trickled from her emerald eyes, though they were tears of utter elation. The devout child wanted nothing more than for this dream to be a reality.

Casius;Breim | Priest Kindness trumps all, except when it doesn't Being surrounded by so much faith and concern really did have Casius feeling somewhat normal, it was a situation he often dealt with daily. The main contrasting factor was that he was also apart of the concerned party. Focusing on himself and his outer herd, he was deep in thought, but he couldn't ignore the voice of another, particularly when they were vulnerable.
Looking up at Riviera, Casius noted her concerns. "Although they may be wary, just being here surrounded by their presence is enough to show they are doing what they can to help us." Casius rose to his feet as he allowed himself to take in the grandeur of the Temple. Each thing his gaze rolled over made him realise he had partial fragments of in his own Temple. Crystals, artwork, sculptures and even the incense and bells. It warmed his heart. Particularly Argus' mural, that one he found himself staring at for moments longer than anything else that caught his eye.
It was at that moment that the Arcane magic made a shift once more. Excitement rumbled through Casius' system, his nostrils flared as incense intensified and his ears swivelled as the fine hairs picked up the soft chiming of bells. Argus' presence was certainly growing stronger and it made Casius tuck his head close to his belly, clearly expressing his willingness to be vulnerable for his God. "Help us." He whispered softly for their ears alone.

Riviera felt some sense of relief as both Cassius and Jaya whittled away her fears till there was almost nothing left. It was a nice feeling to be reassured like that especially when it felt like a great weight had been lifted off her shoulders. Now her only worry was the young daughter her and her husband had left behind. She smiled softly and was about to respond when a strange shift around her caused her to pin her ears and look around, pressing herself against Jaya's side as she looked around nervously, unsure of what this feeling inside her truly was She took a sharp breath in as the intense smell of inscence filled her nose, it was strong and almost intoxicating, making her feel sick to her stomach. "Argus... you have upset her with you disbelief!", she glanced across at the child who seemed to have no interest in argus what so ever. "Blasphemy child! Say your apologies or we will all suffer her wrath!", she pushed herself under Jaya's wing in hope's his warming touch would comfort her but to her dismay fear wriggled it's way inside her and she could already feel it crawl into her throat

admin notes Heavy smoke from the incense begins to fill the room, obscuring your sight. In the distance you hear what sounds like the steady beating of a drum...or is it a heartbeat? You can't really be sure... You hear the sound drawing closer and closer with each passing moment, and as it does, you feel your mind and your heart growing clearer than ever before.

"A gem cannot be polished without friction, nor a man perfected without trials." ~Lucius Annaeus Seneca ✦ Through the haze of the chiming bells and the intense smell of incense, the girl could still make out the words of their Priest. Even if Argus chose not to show themselves in their full glory, Casius was correct. The very fact that something was with them, a presence that exceeded all others, was enough to calm the child down. Lifting herself up from her praying position, she stood there looking about the temple, really taking it in this time.
But the sense of peace was shattered slightly, for an angry voice sounded out from behind her. She nervously looked around, confused, towards the white speckled pegasus who had rounded on Silver. Pinning her ears back, she trotted closer to the group with her birds fluttering around her.
“We can’t accuse one another, not here. Please don’t become angry. They are with us right now.” She looked up to Riviera who had tried to seclude herself under Jaya’s wing. “Show Them the best sides of yourselves, even if you are scared.” Her eyes moved to Silver, a pitying expression on her face. “Don’t be scared.” She tried to offer the other foal a genuine smile as she spoke gently. She didn’t know Silver had problems with his beliefs. Likely there were hundreds of horses who were like him. And she didn’t think it was her place, let alone anyone else's to accuse of such things, especially here in this massive temple.
Turning back around and taking a few small steps away from the group, she looked back up towards the temple walls, particularly the face of Argus. But the face vanished, smoke obscuring her vision. For a moment, panic welled within her, and she pinned her ears back and took a few steps backward. The weight of her birds that had alighted on her back offered her some comfort, with their soft crooning in her ears.
What sounded like a drum, or a large and exaggerated heartbeat reached her ears. Pricking her ears forward, she tried to look through the smoke. Frozen, but not out of fear, the child peered through the intense swirls of the fumes. Her heart seemed to pound in time with the drumming. It was almost putting her into a kind of trance.

SILVER "Nothing changes, if nothing changes."
Oh gods, he has been seen. The calm, unreadable facade that he had managed to maintain for a month's worth of travel had finally begun to crack, and beneath their god's very roof to boot. The harsh words meet his young ears like sharp crystals shattering and slicing through his ears, racking through his already vulnerable form. Such words would have gone ignored, as he had often been taught to do, in any other state. Breim was about maintaining tranquility and balance, and confrontation was best avoided outside of the home. But here, where they are all sure a psychic force is searching them, he very clearly reacts.
The boy had done such a fine job of suppressing the often overwhelming rush of emotions that had been plaguing his herd since the crystal's shattering -- but no longer. Silver visibly cowered, his ears flattening against his skull as the mare judged him. Not just weeks, but months of hiding his diminishing faith had finally seemed to come to an end. It all seems that way, until others in the room speak up.
"Please, be calm." His mother is the first to defend him. The mare's voice is calm, but barring on a pungent mixture of sorrow and disappointment. Her violet eyes harbor a bit of anger towards Riviera -- how dare she declare her son a blasphemer! The colt had barely said a word and had been so well behaved! But now is not the time or the place to correct her. They were in the presence of Argus, Sakuya believes. She pulls her gaze away immediately. It would be wrong to show any sort of ire in their presence. Likewise, she did not praise the young filly who also interjected, believing that Argus would likely praise her instead.
Silver, in the meantime, was left stuck in the fray. Accused of blasphemy, and probably rightfully so. He did not know if his mother believed the mare or not, or even knew of his growing doubt. All he could offer was a single glance to Gemstone, his peer -- his reassurance in this case, but it does little to help the anxious mind. The tension seems to freeze him up, like a prey animal who cannot decide whether to fight or fly. Soon, the doubtful thoughts in his head begin to twist and turn. 'You mustn't be out there. You can't be,' becomes 'You weren't there. Why weren't you there? Why didn't you save him?'
The burning incense continues to fill his nose, and for a moment, the young colt swears he is choking. But strangely, as the sound of a beating drum fills his ears ( or is it his own heart, slowly beating in his chest? ) The thoughts begin to die away. The anxious knot in his head begins to untangle itself, and a clear haze falls into place. Even if he were genuinely faithful, he would not be able to understand it ... why does he feel so calm?
