They had made it. The sun was just starting to set washing the world with an amber glow Gallow had never seen before. Fields of grass stretched out before them and the amount of possibilities was endless. He could feel tears begin to wet his cheeks. But he wiped them away fast as he turned to his son.
"Are you alright Umbra?" He asked looking over him to see if he had suffered any wounds. Gallow himself had but the adrenaline from moments before was staving off the pain. He'd treat them later once he knew they were truly safe. There was so much for them to both figure out.

Umbra took his time, looking around the wide open world they'd stepped into. In all 8 years of his life, the colt had never seen such beauty. They were in a wide open field, far from the prying eyes of Aodhian citizens. There were no chains on their bodies, no bitted bridles to contain their blessings. They were free.
Umbra smiled up at his dad with sparkling eyes. He was beyond ecstatic. And he was with his family. The only family he ever needed. "I'm fine, daddy. But what are we going to do now?" His child like curiosity took him away from the stallion's side. He ran over to a tree and sniffed it. It was not barred by a lawn or street. It was free to grow its roots as deep and as far as it wanted. That is exactly what Umbra was ready for. "Are we going to live on the run? Or we could go to another herd! Or we could help more slaves! I don't know, the world is ours now, don't you think?" The young unicorn had a whole world to explore and he didn't know where to start. Or how.

Gallow couldn't help but watch with a smile growing on his face as Umbra romped through the grass sending up fuzzy little bugs. He caught sight of one or two lightening bugs and knew soon they would be everywhere.
He was relieved to hear no harm had come to Umbra. And as soon as that particular peril was gone Gallow himself could feel his own wounds begin to throb. "Now?"
He had no idea.
"We need to move farther away from the city first." Gallow new very little of the landscapes around New Valore. He could remember little bits from glimpses of maps, but he had never bothered to look at them before. Apparently he really hadn't planned all that well for this next step in his life.
Umbra spoke of grand ideas for their future and Gallow knew his son could do anything he set his mind to. "Let's first enjoy this new world? Shall we?" Gallow started to walk away from the city. He looked back one more time. Nothing could explain the emotions he felt watching that brick wall fall behind him. "We did it, son. You can be anything you want now." He caught up with Umbra and felt the same childlike wonder his son felt.

The young colt was so excited by this new world and his father seemed so ready to share it with him. Umbra ran back to Galloway's side. A spark of an idea flashed in his mind. "I wanna work at a place that helps protect escaped slaves. Like... an inn or something. I think I've heard stories about things like that from some older slaves." The young colt thought it would be the perfect way for him to make a place in the world. He began to trot off towards the huge group of trees in the distance. He'd never seen anything like it. Based on what he'd read in books, he could infer that it was a forest. Umbra paused, glancing back to see that his father followed.
"We should find a place to sleep. Then maybe we can figure everything out tomorrow. What do you say, dad?" He grinned up at the blue skies. He'd seen the sky almost every day of is life, but this was different. A new sky. A free sky. Birds soared overhead. Umbra jumped into the air and tossed his head excitedly. Everything would be perfect from that moment on, he decided.
