Above him, the sky stretches endless in a canvas of bright diamonds, the day’s heat having settled down into something more comfortably approaching chilly. The valley plays a song just for their party, it seems, the wind whistling and dancing across the walls of the red sandstone canyons. As they settle in for the night, he sheds his saddlebags with a graceful sort of ease, hovering them over to the nearby sand and breathing out a sigh of relief. They weren’t heavy, per se, but with the ever-present heat of the desert, he was certainly aware of them more often than not.
They haven’t spoken much beyond the initial greetings and agreement to travel together, if at least in the same direction. “Clerval, right?” His voice is low and slightly rough, but there is nothing but gentle curiosity there. “Would you like something to eat? I have plenty with me.”
He had intended to gain access to the Oasis, where such rations wouldn’t be needed, but had known that it was likely he wouldn’t arrive in time. Better safe than sorry, after all, a policy that had paid off when he had realized the Oasis had been sealed by the time he arrived.
He could only hope that Jara and his parents had arrived in time. They’d be safer inside, where the Aodh forces couldn’t find them -- after all, everyone knew how savage the Aodhians could be, how callous they acted in owning another person -- no, it was better if his family was safely tucked away.

Clerval had also intended to be within the Oasis before it was sealed, after all, it was where her most direct family was and she did miss her mother dearly, it had been too long since she had seen her, but that dream was long passed. At least her family was safe though, even if she didn’t quite know where her cousins were.
She was lucky, her light coat didn’t keep the heat as much her darker coated companions. But that didn’t mean the heat didn’t affect her. The long mane, while supposedly a blessing, gathered the heat and weighed heavily along her neck, which was covered in sticky sweat. When they finally settled she delicately removed some beads and small cut wire from her saddlebag when Acheron approached her. She knew him in passing, sharing a passion with his sister had caused them to cross paths, however brief.
“Yes, that’s correct, and you’re Acheron if I’m not mistaken.” She smiled, her eyes crinkling a bit as he offered her food. She hadn’t had an opportunity to purchase any more food from the Oasis, after all, she had been on her way back from gathering trade worthy crops from farmers along the Nuirros River, mainly agave sugar. But sugar isn’t a sustainable meal. “I would greatly appreciate the food, thank you.” She gratefully took the food, eating it carefully. Once finished, she looked back at him, examining his face in the slightly awkward silence.
“I’ll admit, I’m worried. For the future of our herd. For our families…” She paused, her brain drifting off into thoughts of her mother and father, surely they’re safe. They rarely left the Oasis. They had to be there and safe from everything around them.

They settle into their campsite with an ease born of a nomadic life, and he knew without a doubt that such activities were likely happening across the entire Ziuseset, inside of the Oasis and outside of it, as Serorans settled for the night into their makeshift camps and family groups. It was a routine as familiar to him as time itself, and it was routine he sorely craved with all that had been occurring recently.
Not once in his twenty-three years had he thought an invasion possibly, but… here they were, with Aodhian forces within their borders and worry for their brethren running rampant.
“I know what you mean,” He sighs softly, his thoughts turning towards his adoptive parents and siblings. How were Gladio and Juli faring in the Oasis, away from their farm? Had Jara even made it into the Oasis and to safety? There were many questions rattling around in his head, ones he likely wouldn’t find answers to for some time.
“I’ll be heading up towards the Northern Niurros tomorrow -- my parents have a farm there. Mostly medicinal things, but I’m sure they wouldn’t mind trading some of the food we have -- I noticed you don’t have much besides sugar, and who knows when the Oasis will open again.” He needed to replenish some of his herbs, anyways, and he was sure the plants would need tending in the absence of his parents.
Jara, in particular, would be peeved if he let her plants parch beneath the heavy sun that springtime brought.

She saw the brief look of worry cross his face, and she felt a pang of sympathy in her heart. She was so worried about her family- about everyone within her herd. The Aodhian forces were not to be trifled with, so it would, most likely, be a long time before she saw many of her friends and family again.
Clerval nodded in agreement, he was right about her situation, she had been hoping to make it to the Oasis in time, but had missed it, but at least her family was safe. But if she wanted to see them again, she’d have to trade for food. It was a good thing she had run into Acheron.
“I would most definitely be willing to help you with anything needed at the farm. Honestly, it’s nice to have some company for a change. I’ve been alone for a while now and I miss talking to others.” She shrugged slightly, “I’ll admit I don’t know much about farming, I mostly trade and sometimes make jewelry as a hobby, but I’ve never been very good with plants.” She looked at him with a small smile. Talking made everything seem manageable somehow. Like the future wasn’t uncertain. “But I’ll admit, I would greatly enjoy learning.”
