Ozzer | Outsider
Ozzer's mind wandered as he walked, replaying the events of the previous week. He had been approached several days before as he skirted the edge of Nariah, recognized as or perhaps already known as a guide. He usually avoided the large city, but had come to witness the Night of the New Sun Celebration, and had stayed for another week to rest and gather supplies. On his way out was when he had bumped into the propositioning stranger, asking him to lead a small group to the Temple of Argus. The idea of a group had brought a "no" to his lips, but as always it somehow turned to a "yes" as it came out of his mouth. As soon as the answer was out, the stranger had, unheeded, begun to explain the purpose of their mission. There was a reason he was an outsider, and it wasn't simply because he liked to wander. Being born as a Vagabond left a certain distaste for all the dealings of herd politics that now seemed to have a grasp on Breim. He would have thought his blank face would have discouraged the horse's exposition, but instead they spent quite some time telling him about their current doubts over Hajime's rise to the throne and what it meant for the herd. The outsider was not completely oblivious to these goings-ons, picking up most of the herd news from his supply stops or from his other travelers. But as far as the donkey was concerned they had nothing to worry about. He hadn't actually heard anything bad about Hajime, and it was not the poor stallion's fault that his father had gone missing. A royal goes traveling... it's bound to happen. But it wasn't Ozzer's nature to worry about such things anyway - it didn't affect him, so why bother. Except... now it did. Here he was leading a group of skeptical horses to the Temple of Argus, another place that he did not travel all that often. But he knew the way, and that was why they had chosen him as their guide. And if nothing else he would get them there. The had begun their journey the previous night, and after some short, tense introductions he had moved them along their way. He did not want to dally on such a mission. He would have to walk them there and back, for it was not a journey one could memorize in a single trip, and would, round trip, take a week at the shortest. That was if they kept at a steady pace, and, gods willing, the journey was uneventful. And not to mention how long they stayed at the temple. Hopefully they would find their answers quickly... "Please keep up," he called behind him, feeling hoof steps falling further behind. He did not turn to see who it was. There was no current danger, and they hadn't been traveling long enough that day to yet be too tired, so surely they were only falling back out of apathy or absent-mindedness - neither of which belonged in the Labyrinth. But I must remember some, if not all, of them may have never set hoof outside the city... he thought about the young filly in particular. The donkey had picked up that she was a royal, and felt it foolish for her to come along. They weren't going to be above ground, but after what happened to Isamu he was surprised she'd even be allowed out of the palace. Though perhaps she wasn't supposed to be... He turned his mind away from the thought, and instead directed a question to the group in general, "What answers do you hope to find at the main temple that you did not receive at home?" It was perhaps not a delicate way to put it, but the jack was not known for his tact. However he didn't voice his other, more pressing, question - had Argus not answered? (Post 1: 662 words) (OOC: If anyone wants to be the specific horse that asked Ozzer to be their guide feel free. EDIT - I was asked to start the journey about a day in, so I've changed/added to my post. I apologize to those of you who might have started writing your replies.)

Blaine | Healer
What are we getting ourselves into was a constant question that relayed through the young healer's mind. He trailed a few feet behind Ozzer, slowly zoning off into space as his swamped brain wandered. Why the hell's this dude leading me around anyway? An outsider? Pfft. Shit, wait, I voted for him... what the hell Blaine? It hardly made any sense to the purple-hued appaloosa. But orders were orders and as much as Blaine would typically enjoy breaking them he understood just how important this was, so he tried to keep his thoughts to a bare minimum. After all, Blaine was of the Old Generation so he found it hard to hold a firm trust in those who were not born from Breim blood, and remained that way. Ozzer had been around long enough, though, that Blaine could tolerate him.
The temple of Argus, however, was a more iffy topic. The stallion was religious, but he himself had never ventured so far to a place so remote. Don't sweat it, it's nothing. Seriously. Oh Lord, you're sweating it. I can taste the salt on your pelt you weak little mouse. Ugh, whatever. The question was, did Ozzer know what he was doing? He was in charge, so he must know where he's going. The journey was long and fast paced, and Blaine was more thankful than ever that he was a dainty little thing as opposed to a heavy draft. He didn't find any difficulty in keeping up, yet still... "Please keep up," Ozzer demanded, triggering a slight eye roll from Blaine. He could practically smell him he was that close. "Right behind you boss-man," the araloosa smirked, slightly sarcastically at Ozzer's ass, picking up his knees to a steady trot to close his distance. Though his leader didn't give a glance, Blaine tossed his head to look behind him at the rest of his team. He gave them a grin and a subtle nod, urging them on. He was unusually confident in his herdmates, but perhaps it was because both the herd's healer and doctor were among them. Was it because royalty was among them? None the less he thought, if anything goes wrong, we've got that bitch covered.
"What answers do you hope to find at the main temple that you did not receive at home?" Blaine flicked an ear toward Ozzer as he spoke. He raised an eyebrow without making eye contact. Well, that sure was hard to predict, so the stallion just shrugged slightly and looked back once more at his herdmates. "We can only hope for the best, I guess. Who knows what Argus has up his sleeve."
Post 1; 443 Words (OOC: Please don't be offended by Blaine's occasional sass and sarcasm, he can be a pain in the ass but he means well and tries to contain it to his thoughts to the best of his ability! <3)

With this past year’s events so raw in the mind, many have turned to the Gods for answers; and none more so than Argus’ loyal followers. Yet fear still lingers in the hearts of many, convinced that even Nariah’s overwhelmed temples can not reach the ears of the Arcane God. So you and several others have taken it upon yourselves to make the long journey to the temple where Argus is said to rest and the bell tolls clearest. It is your hope that there, in the sacred cavern, you can ask for the God’s guidance in these darkest of times.

Semora sighed as she and this group of horses followed behind Ozzer their guide. She wasn’t quite sure what to think of the previous kings disappearance. As she got lost in thought she heard Ozzer’s voice Drone out a command “Please keep up.” She rolled her eyes at the Donkey but pushed on and motioned her head at the others behind her to say hurry up.
She snorted loudly and fought back a laugh as the small appaloosa in front of her gave a sarcastic remark to their guide. She recognized some of the horses in their group like Blaine, Ciel and Cecilla, the first two being a healer and a doctor and the last a member of the royal family. Semora frowned and thought what in the world am I doing in this crowd? Oh right attempting to see if Argus has any answers for us on why the king disappeared.
Semora was once again pulled from her thoughts as she heard their guides voice once again.” What answers do you hope to find at the main temple that you did not receive at home?” His voice pressed. What answers do they hope to find at the temple, Semora honestly had no clue but she went on anyway, maybe she was there because she too was familiar with the world outside the city of Nariah due to her job as an Echo.

Cecillia | Royal family
Cecillia was ecstatic as she walked through the otherwise quiet tunnels which was now filled with the clicking of hooves. She was going on a real adventure! Away from the city and to a whole other part of their herd's home! It was beyond amazing.
She hummed a bit as she walked with a bounce in her step, twisting her ears every which way to try keep from bumping into the others. Her attention was drawn to the one who's voice she recognised as Ozzer, the one guiding their group. The one called Blaine sounded funny, she decided as he answered Ozzer's question. "Oh, I don't think we'll be able to loose you, everyone is kinda loud," she said smiling in their guide's general direction.
His second question made her think. As far as she had caught on, they were visiting Argus for answers though she was not entirely sure for what. If she had to take a guess, it had perhaps to do with all the strained whispers that went around the palace and even outside. Her parents had been extra... protective these last few weeks too, making it harder for her to sneak out. The last couple of days they seemed buzzy and she had managed though. It was faith having her run into Ciel that landed her in this little journey, so she had to think about what exactly she hoped to find. "I hope we'll get to hear Argus, he is supposed to be real wise, right? And if not, I hope we'll learn about each other." She hummed, happy with that answer.

Aremis l Priest
"Yes of course" Aremis spoke, his voice cool and gentle. In that moment the priest knew that he had been the one who was lagging behind, his hooves occasionally slipping on wet moss or he would have to remember to pick up his broken wing when it would trail on the ground. He willed himself not to be so clumsy, to show strength and balance on this journey. "I fear that I will be a burden on this journey, slow you all down and for that I am sorry" No I can't think like that. He shook away the doubt and reminded himself that at the very least he could lend them kind words and his wisdom. He felt deeply connected to Argus and the old generation, that is why he could have never turned down going with them. He lifted his head and angled it towards Blaine and Semora, they were eye rolling Ozzer with such sass and it made him worry that there would be tension between the three. He hoped not but that could be a possibility or maybe they would all end up good friends - At the very least Cecillia seemed hopeful of that. He tried to pick up his pace, almost jealous of the younger horses energy and youthfulness. Aremis broke his gaze from the others, his eyes drifting closed for a second as he thought of the kings disappearance and the possibility of what going to Argus's temple might bring.
"There is a message in all things..." He mumbled. "I'm sure that Argus will at the very least bless us with a few words and if he chooses not to, Breim will be okay. Argus is always watching over us, speaking is not always needed" He wasn't sure if that was right but he said it anyways. Ozzer | Outsider
Ozzer opened his mouth to reply to the priest's apology, but before he could Blaine piped up.
There was no mistaking the tone of Blaine's retort. It was the sass that came from breeding hundreds of years of distrust. Ozzer had lived in Sirith for the past 13 years, and yet still many of the Old Generation would rather get lost in the caves than accept his help. For this reason he had been surprised to realize that a Healer (and a priest, though he seemed like a quiet soul) had decided to accompany them. At least the others seemed a little more open minded, though Semora's badly hidden laugh suggested otherwise. He had to stop himself from barking back at Blaine with an aggressive 'excuse me, I wasn't talking to you.' And as the roan crowded him he resisted kicking him square in the chest, though he silently vowed that if Blaine got this close again he wouldn't be so lenient. See if he appreciates the help when I leave him stranded in a cave somewhere, he thought bitterly.
He flapped his tail - it was the best he could do to mark his personal space - and turned his ears back as Cecilia's and Aremis' voices rang forward through the cave. A small smile crossed his muzzle at the filly's answer - the answer of a child. Surely she could not even understand the meaning of her herd's stress? And Aremis, the only one who seemed to know why he was even on this journey.
"I agree. Breim will be ok. It is a strong herd, and whether Argus gives the answers to you all or not, I'm sure he will give them to Hajime." He chose his words carefully. He was not entirely sure the range of religious devotion of these horses. "He is a good leader. Young, but at least not as young as that Aodhian king..."
The narrow cave opened up into a large cavern. Though the sands of most of the caves gave off a dim glow due to the magic infused throughout the ground, this area was particularly bright. This was due to the many gems that poked through the surface, stippling the walls, floor, and ceiling in colorful light, each one reflecting more light onto the next so that it seemed as bright as day. A strange, pinkish day, anyway. Stalactites and stalagmites created a simple maze throughout the cavern. It was a nice change to the crowded, dark tunnels, and it made Ozzer wish that he did not have his entourage with him so that he could spend a few peaceful days here.
But he continued on, weaving a small path between the natural columns. The faint trickle of water reached his ears, but he knew they were just echoes, and the water source itself was still a good distance away.

Blaine | Healer
The sheer disapproval on Ozzer's face made Blaine squirm with delight. Oh, this is going to be fun, he couldn't help but convince himself. It was both sarcastic and genuine, recalling that the journey was still long ahead of them. He turned to face the Priest as he spoke his remark and instantly felt regret. It wasn't like him, but Blaine held a certain respect in his heard for the herd's Priests. He nodded in agreement with Aremis, though felt there was nothing to add. The words he spoke were truth.
As the group approached the cavern he drifted away from Ozzer, embracing the cool sands beneath his hooves. His eyes glanced over each of the crystals and jewels that poked through the stone walls, reflecting a magnificent fuchsia hue upon the pelts of his team members. He squinted to look down the multiple tunnels that were connected to the cavern, and from across the openness he raised an eyebrow at Ozzer. "How you'll get us out of here is beyond me," and with his head lowered and a kick of the sand he returned to follow them once more.

Aremis l Priest
"You speak truth Ozzer. He is young but he has a kind heart. I believe that with time he will be a great and fair leader. Argus will guide him" He hoped it went unnoticed when he ended up tripping on a loose rock whilst he was talking, he flailed his good wing a few times but luckily he was able to quickly catch himself and continue on his way. Phew the last thing he wanted was a face full of earth. He enjoyed a good mud bath but now wasn't the time. He looked all around them as they entered a cave, it was one of the most beautiful things he had ever seen and not something he would soon forget. There were so many colours and different stones, he would take one home if he didn't think they were sacred and they didn't belong to him. "Magnificent..." He mumbled.
Aremis breathed in before he hurried forwards to join Blaine at his side, there was a small respectful distance between them that he had carefully planned. He opened his mouth to speak. "Go easy on him and have hope. If you are worried about this missions success I am more than happy to return to my shrine because I feel your doubt is misplaced. Look how far he has gotten us" He didn't sound harsh or crude, his voice was hushed and soft.

Semora looked back at the young filly as she said, “I hope we'll get to hear Argus, he is supposed to be real wise, right? And if not, I hope we'll learn about each other." She snorted once more, fighting back the urge to tell the kid to not get her hopes up on becoming friends she continued walking. When Ozzer spoke Semora silently agreed to his words about King Hajime, he may be young but he has been a great leader so far. When the narrow cave finally opened up into a large cavern Semora sighed in relief, glad that she didn’t have to be crowded in the narrow tunnel any longer. She looked around at the stalactites and smiled faintly at their beauty. When Blaine asked Ozzer “ How you’ll get us out of here is beyond me.” She wanted to smack him for saying that but she held back and just pinned her ears down and kept walking. She watched silently as the priest hurried forward to be next to Blaine, she silently smiled at his antics having seen when he tripped over a loose rock earlier. She heard bits of the conversation between them and walked to be just behind them so she could add in “ I trust the Guide will get us there. He knows these caves like the back of his hoof.” She said quietly to the two stallions.

Ciel Spyre | Doctor
"...Sorry I was late an' all earlier this mornin', gang- I'm Ciel for anyone who's no' heard o' me or my medical services," Ciel finally piped up after quite a long time of silence, skulking and staring hard at Cecilia in a disapproving way, hoping in his heart that it would intimidate her into going back to her parents. They're probably worried sick by now, and if they found out where she'd gone, who would get the blame? Li'l ol' Ciel, that's who. But what if she didn't sneak out, and was instead put into someone else's care?! That thought made him a little angrier, but he tried not to show it. "I was stockin' up the food supply, if you ge' wha' I'm sayin'." Flicking his stomach with his tangly tail and grinning at no-one in particular, he picked up his pace to station himself beside his young patient, walking close to her protectively, comforted by the fact that she couldn't see his gesture. "... An' thanks a million for bringin' me along, Ozzer! I'm an asset, after all! The only answer I want is how to make i' good ol' Breim again." Arching his neck higher, he browsed the small make-shift herd for the second time- only this time, he was actually paying attention.
Contrary to his initial beliefs, this group wasn't, in fact, all with matching coats to his, making them look coordinated, cool, and just all-round badass, but instead with a hodge-podge of different coat colours and combinations, with feathers and unicorn horns thrown in random places. In his eyes, they truly did look like a group of outcasts. In fact, he only knew a single horse personally, and two others by word of mouth- the Priest and the appaloosa... the same appaloosa that had been involved in one of the rumours he'd heard recently from one of his buddies. It's true he'd forgotten most of the rumour, but that's all the more reason to get to know them. Creasing his thick brows slightly more, the pony stallion shouted loudly at that unique spotty behind. "Oi, Ma'am! Glad to meetcha. You're of impor'ance to the group, am I right? If you get injured, I can fix you righ' up- and tha' goes for the lo' of you, too." He proudly exclaimed, flicking the fringe out of his eyes with a timed hairflick.

Cecillia | Royal family
Cecillia was blissfully unaware of any stern stares, instead concentrating on listening to everyone. She chuckled as she heard Ciel speak up, the horse always interesting and sometimes amusing to her. Though she sometimes had difficulty understanding what he was saying, he had an unique way of speaking, hence why she liked listening to him. Her attention now however was not drawn towards his words nor the beauty of the caves everyone was enjoying, but which was lost on her. Instead her attention was drawn by the murmur of the underground river and by the quiet stumble behind her. She slowed her pace a bit, bringing herself closer to the source. "Are you alright, Sir Aremis? What is it that hinders you? An injury of sorts?" the filly inquired softly, concerned about the stallion. Her parents had always taught her how important it was for herd members to look after each other and how it was the duty of the royal family to look after it that everyone was cared for. "Ciel is a great doctor, he helps my parents as well. If it is any of the sorts, I am sure he will help you. If you are tired, I can request we rest at the river as well." She felt quite proud of herself, making these suggestions. It was usually to hard to tell if something was wrong with people, showing signs she could not perceive.
Her ears perked forward, hearing Blaine question Ozzer's abilities. She smiled. "I'm sure Sir Ozzer will get us there safely, I heard he is a known guide."
She nodded which she knew was a way of affirming something. Then she spoke to Ozzer, curious about his job. "Do you travel these tunnels often, Sir? And have you visited Argus before? I really wonder what he is like..." She trailed off, trying to imagine. Would his voice be light of heavy, would it be anything like normal horses at all?

Blaine | Healer
The spotted stallion pinned his ears in submission and made eye contact as the Priest approached and spoke to him. He had immense respect for the individual, and understood he held a certain authority, no matter how gently he spoke. He gave an exaggerated frown as Aremis and what seemed to be his entire group clearly misunderstood what he had said. He hovered his eyelids, rendering his eyes half closed and cocked an eyebrow. "Y'all misunderstand me. I'm just trying to say that I don't understand how Ozzer will get us out of here because I myself don't think I could do it. If I were leading, we'd be lost by now. Just look at this place, I can't even tell which blasted tunnel we came out of. Anyways, we're probably wasting time, so let's get on with it." He did his best to keep the foul language to a minimum, making note that Cecillia was present as she was both a minor and of royalty. Normally he wouldn't care so much about her age, he just wished to make a good impression due to the latter fact. He tossed her a quick half-smirk as he passed her by.
With a swish of his tail, Blaine retreated to the rear end of the group and focused his gaze on the magic-covered wall to his right. He wanted desperately to just tell them they were all being pricks, but he contained himself as a respectful man would do. Only a day in and these pansies were already plucking his pissy strings. Can't let 'em get to me, I'm gonna be stuck with 'em for a while, he reminded himself. Then he spoke aloud: "Oh, and you'd best be watching where you're walking; these rocks can be sharp, and the crystals even worse," he reminded them, recalling the rock he tripped over. He definitely loved his job, but the less hooves he had to patch up the better - for it would only create more wasted time.

Ozzer | Outsider
Ozzer watched as Blaine drifted away from him among the pillars. He kept disappearing and reappearing from view, but even when he wasn't visible the donkey could still hear and feel each of his steps. He knew where each of his charges was, and if they began to wander too far he would retrieve them and put them back on the right path. But he did not call anyone back immediately if they strayed. It was a small joy of his, watching the awe in the eyes of horses that have never experienced the magnificence of the tunnels before. He could see that look in his companions now. This, and Ciel's loud voice echoing from the back of the group, brought a rare smile to his face. He wasn't typically fond of horses that spoke much louder than needed, but the miniature doctor's words seemed to break the quiet tension of the group. But not for long. Blaine's voice pulled the small smile from his face. "How you'll get us out of here is beyond me." Travelers questioning his navigational skills was not new to him, but, as Blaine wandered back towards the group, they always continued to follow him. It was that or chance being alone, and he knew they were more afraid of the tunnels than they were distrustful of him. And in this instance he did not have to speak his reassurance. The others seemed to come to his aide. They gathered around Blaine, and though Ozzer couldn't hear the exact words they spoke to him he could feel the tone of their whispers. Cecilia's words were the only ones he could catch - he smiled because children often did not know when to keep their voices low - and they affirmed his guess. Her next words, directed at him, gave him a chance to reaffirm them without stepping into their hushed conversation unasked. "These exact tunnels are not ones that I visit often compared to some of the others. Pretty much any time I come this way it is to lead horses such as yourselves, ones that need help reaching Argus' temple. But I've been wandering The Labyrinth for 13 years." Though he was answering Cecilia, he spoke in a voice that he made sure reached everyone. "I've seen them all. I know where each one goes, and which ones are easiest to travel. But you put me in one of the cities and I'm as lost as you would be here." He added the last bit in an attempt to not seem so smug. When he replied to her next question it was in a quieter voice, directed only to her though the others could still hear. "I have entered the temple only once. My patron god is Kaia. She has blessed me, and it is her earth that surrounds us, so I pray mainly to her. But Argus' magic is present in every rock here, so I do pay respects to him too. Just not in temples..."
The water was getting louder with each step they took. It was now obvious that a small, underground river lay ahead, though it could still not be seen. Ozzer wished it were closer, to distract from the questions on religion. It was not a subject he was particularly comfortable with. But they would reach the river soon enough, and he would stop them there for "the night." Though the city horses had forced days and nights with their lights, he had lost track of any sense of time many years ago. (Post 3: 593 words) (OOC: Sorry for the wait. Aremis l Priest
Aremis suddenly felt an overwhelming sense of guilt and embarrassment wash over him when Blaine replied and he realized he shouldn't have jumped to conclusions about the stallion. He lowered his head in shame, ears pinning back in a pathetic posture. "Please forgive me. I shouldn't have made assumptions about what you meant" He sighed quietly to himself before his expression turned to the small filly, Cecillia. The genuine concern in her voice made his heart swell. "Cecillia I thank you. I'm sure Ciel is a very skilled healer but I'm afraid my injury isn't something he can fix. You see I broke my wing a long time ago and I can't fly anymore"
It made the priest sad sometimes to think that he would never sour through the skies again but he had also come to accept it. He would be okay, there were plenty of horses who couldn't fly. "Welcome Ciel" He greeted him with a slight bow of his spotted head. Ozzer had his attention now, he absorbed his words like he did the words of books, he could already tell that the stallion was wise, special in the eyes of the gods, someone to admired. "We will stop to rest at the river?" He hoped so but he tried to act like he didn't need it.

Semora nodded when Blaine clarified his statement about Ozzer leading the group. But didn’t say anything else to him. She smirked at his obvious annoyance at the group . When she heard the priest get upset at Blaine’s reaction she raised an eyebrow but continued on.
She looked around the tunnel, smiling to herself at the beauty within them. After all these years of traveling back in forth as an echo she is stilled awed by the beauty of them.
She smiled once more when she heard the little filly asking Ozzer questions about his job. When she heard Blaine say something about not tripping on rocks and crystals she laughed at his comment about crystals being worse and continued to walk along the path. This trip is gonna be very entertaining she thought to herself.
She lost herself in thought as they continued down the tunnel, When she heard Aremis speak up she tuned back into the group. ”We will stop to rest at the river?” he had said. Semora looked to Ozzer “ I think that would be a good idea” She said voicing her opinion.

Cecillia | Royal family
Cecillia's ears turned to the front as Blaine spoke. "Oh, alright," was all she said, smiling softly. Then her pace faltered a bit as he warned them for sharp rocks and crystals. She couldn't 'look out' for them after all. Her smile faltered, but she quickly caught herself and started walking again, instead concentrating on Aremis and then Ozzer. When she heard there was nothing that could be done to help, she felt a little sad. "I'm sorry." She whispered. 'Cause what more could she say? She didn't know what it was to by like to have wings, what it was to have them broken nor how it felt to fly. She could not honestly say she knew what he was feeling, so she thought it better to say no more than that. Sorry for him, she was truly.
Not wishing to dwell on sadness that was long since part of the past and would do no good of bringing up in the present, her ears turned towards Ozzer. She felt herself nodding her head. "I see. I like Kaia as well. She gives me the ground I walk on, I am sure without her gift I would be lost. My parents say Argus is most important though, but I'm not sure. I heard different horses praise different gods, Argus, Kaia, Cascade and Ayla. I heard tales about all their gifts around the palace who decides who is better? I think all of them are really great..." It wasn't clear if she was asking the group or just posing the question in general. Beliefs were not a topic she got to talk about openly, her parents very strict on the matter, but now the topic was touched by Ozzer, she was eager to see what others thought. "What do you think?"
Resting at the river sounded good to her ears as well and she added her voice next to Semora's. "Me too. I would love some water."

Ciel nodded in acknowledgement at Aremis and began happily skipping along, his shaggy fringe bouncing with each step. He needed an outlet for the energy his butterflies were generating, but there seemed to be none other than... exercise. Though it was true he was expending a lot of much needed energy for the journey ahead, he currently felt like his gut was about to burst open from the sheer excitement. It was not often he went on journeys like this, and when he did, it was alone and gave him time to rethink his life decisions. Adventures with people like this were Ciel's cup of tea, being a people-person and all. The chatters of his herdsmates were all background noise compared to the grand orchestra inside his head, but nevertheless, he had managed to swivel his ears towards Ozzer just in time to hear his opinion on the almighty Argus. Without missing a heartbeat, the pony rose to defend his precious patron God, although there was nary a crime spoken by the guide. Of course, he had waited many moments to prepare the perfect speech. He's gonna be convinced by this, he reassured himself.
"Why'd you wanna ever worship Kaia when Argus is obviously much be'er, eh?" He, again, shouted unnecessarily loudly and out of nowhere, quickening his skip into a stumbling trot, "I mean, look at him! He's even go' three eyes! There's a reason us lot model everythin' off him- his coat's stellar! I could go on like this for days, bud! Bu' there's one main reason everyone should love 'n' respect 'im," He paused for a dramatic effect, imagining the wave of agreeing nods that may or may not exist. Taking a deep breath and puffing out his chest, he exclaimed- "It's 'cause he's a Shettie, like me!"
The confidence he had once had was suddenly stripped away by the sudden realisation of the sound of dripping water. He had not thought about going to the bathroom before he had left, probably unlike all the others, though that wasn't what was on his mind right now. He uncomfortably shifted his back legs, slowing down his pace slightly. Bloody bladder, he grumbled internally. "...Uh, yeah- stoppin' at the river sounds brilliant..."

Ozzer | Outsider
Ozzer was impressed by the little filly's answer. To question what she was told about religion rather than blindly following - no pun intended - showed a lot of independence on her part. The herd might not appreciate her out-of-the-box thinking, but it will help her go far, he thought. She would decide for herself who was the best for her to follow, which is how Ozzer felt religion should be practiced. He nodded sagely, before remembering that the filly could not see the movement. "Strong words from such a young filly," he spoke his thoughts. But Ciel's thick accent, echoing harshly against the surrounding stones, quickly overrode his own gruff voice. The donkey was glad he wasn't easily offended in religious matters. He highly doubted that any god would take on the earthly form of a pony - why would they when they could look like the most elegant of equines? "Those are all just physical aspects," he chuckled. "I believe that gods are worshiped based on a lot more than that." He cast a glance back to Aremis, who surely had better reasons for worshiping the Arcane god. Ozzer would be interested to hear these reasons from a pegasus who lived underground. "We will rest soon," he promised the group, nodding to each as they backed up Aremis' suggestion. Even he could use a break - he had not eaten since the previous night. He stomach grumbled now to remind him of the fact. The rushing in his hooves had gradually grown stronger and stronger. It was gentle, but persistent, like the movement of the earth. He turned down a side tunnel and the rock columns faded away, leaving them traveling in a large, open tunnel. The rushing water could easily be heard now, and in the light, dimmer than when they had first entered the gem cavern, he could just make out ahead the opening in the wall that the water spilled out of. Over countless years it had carved its own path down the side of the tunnel, but still left plenty of room for them to stop to rest and mingle along its edge. Miniature waterfalls along its route accentuated the fact that they were now traveling steadily downward, going even further under the ground that they all called home. "This is the beginning of one of the streams that flows into the Shattered River, the river that leads to Argus' Temple. We shall follow it for most of the rest of the trip." He turned to the travelers, deciding to impart on them one of the most important pieces of his guiding wisdom. "If you ever get lost in the tunnels, find the water. At the end is your god." He turned back towards the water, and walked over to take a long drink. It was cool and crisp. "We will rest here for a while."

Aremis l Priest
"Ah thank you Ozzer" It was a relief to him when everyone agreed that they should pause and rest, honestly his legs and wings had been feeling stiff for a few miles now but he didn't want to complain or show any signs of weakness. "The gods have blessed us with a beautiful day and a safe journey so far" The priest commented, to noone in particular but if any horse was to acknowledge he wouldn't mind. He lowered himself to lay at the edge of the water with his front legs tucked under his body. He bowed his head to start drinking. Once he had satisfied his thirst he looked up at Ciel-Although if he had been standing he would be the one looking down. "Where do you get all of your energy from?" He said with a small laugh. "I'm impressed" His intention wasn't to tease the small healer, it was simply an observation and maybe Ciel loved Argus more than he did.
"Have you ever been out this far Semora?" He asked her next, trying to keep up a friendly conversation between everyone so that this journey would go more pleasantly. He wondered it they would all go their separate ways after this, never to speak again.

Semora nodded her head to Ozzer in thanks and walked up to the stream, bowing her head down she drank until she satisfied her thirst. Once she finished she picked her head back up and walked near Ciel and Aremis. When she found a spot that looked relatively comfortable she plopped down on the ground with a heavy sigh. She closed her eyes for a moment to relax “The gods have blessed us with a beautiful day and a safe journey so far" she heard the priest comment. She silently agreed to the comment. Hopefully it will stay that way she thought to herself.
Semora lost herself again in thoughts of other things until she was pulled out by the priest’s next words “Where do you get all of your energy from?” She opened her eyes to see whom he was addressing; she saw him looking at the small healer and smirked a bit. “I’m impressed” Aremis had said laughing slightly, She snorted as soon as she heard them and she had to hold in her laugh at his words.
She struggled to regain herself as the priest addressed her next. “Have you ever been out this far Semora?” he questioned her. She thought for a moment to the trips she has taken then replied” I have been out farther than this. The furthest I have been is probably to Osulas, in Sedo.” She told him quietly smiling to herself. “ Have you ever been out this far before Aremis?” she asked him politely, actually in a good mood for once.

Cecillia | Royal family
Cecillia's chest puffed out proudly at Ozzer's comment, happy he thought so. She listened with interest as Ciel told them they should worship Argus above all, just like her parents did. She was excited as he seemed to know what he was like. "Oh, you met him, Ciel? Is he nice?"
As they reached the edge of the river, she slowed her pace as she tried to gauge her position in relation to the river, not wanting to risk tumbling into the thing. She listened with half an ear as Ozzer told them what to do if they got lost, while she started tapping her hoof to the ground as she inched closer to water step by step. Eventually she felt liquid drench her foot and she could safely bend down to take her share. Taking big gulps, she only now realised how thirsty she had been. Once her thirst was quenched her ear fell on Semora telling she had been to Sedo. Immediately interested she turned her head in the mare's general direction. "Oooh, Sedo. That's real far, right? What is it like, madam?"

"Uh-huh, o' course the fella was nice!" he said in a slightly hushed tone, bending in to whisper into Cecilia's ear, "Don' tell anyone, bu' he was my sparrin' partner when we were colts. The fella was my best bud! O' course the 'godly powers' 'n' all were annoyin', bu' they had their uses." Ciel threw in an extra wink at the end, even knowing she couldn't see him, but it was a habit he wasn't about to break. He tried his very best to ignore the rushing sound of the waterfalls as they approached the water, the group finally being given the leisure to stop.
Attempting to seize the moment to ease his bladder whilst the rest of the group were distracted with the concept of finally resting, the stallion tried his best to move his head as little as possible as his eyes were rapidly trying to find a place to relieve himself. Careful there, Ciel, said his inner monologue, if you make i' too obvious, the lot of 'em will think you're ill-prepared for travel, and then wha'? They'll never invite you again! Those last words struck a lonely sort of fear within him, so naturally, he tried a little harder. He wasn't sure why he looked at Aremis for this purpose, but luckily he did, because an idea struck him when his sky-blue eyes met the pegasus' hide, his reflection swirling and dancing in the water he was drinking from.
Wait a second.
Tha's i', the water!
It was risky. And it was disgusting. The idea only flashed into his mind for a second, but the image of him wading in the pool with a stream of pee beelining behind him made him cringe- and the fact that this charismatic priest and the rest of the group were going to drink from this water made him sick to the stomach. There wasn't any medical cons to it, but still, it'd be very unpleasant. Suddenly, the urge to pee had died down a little bit as if his bladder was afraid of this outcome, but he still shuffled to the edge of the water to not raise any suspicion.
"Where do you get all of your energy from? I'm impressed."
Ciel chuckled a little. He looked down at the pegasus- yes, down- to look him in the eye. He was about to mimic Aremis' sitting position, but caught himself in the act and decide that standing would make him seem taller. "You should be impressed!" he chuffed, giving him a confident grin, "It took a lot o' trainin' to have this much resilience 'n' inner strength!" He paused for a second to gingerly lick the surface of the water. "... tha's wha' you priests find valuable, right?"
"Have you ever been out this far Semora?"
The pony puffed out his cheeks. An unintentional and unwanted speck of jealousy burned its way into his chest, making him self-consciously move closer to Aremis. Of course his ears were hungry for her answer so he could try and one-up her, and win back his attention.
"I have been out farther than this. The furthest I have been is probably to Osulas, in Sedo."
"W-Well I've been to the farmlands of Onea- only the strongest survive there! It's a great triumph to ge' there and back alive." Ciel blurted out, with his head turned towards Semora, but the words aimed at the priest.

Ozzer | Outsider
The quiet, but constant sound of the river seemed to have a calming effect on Ozzer. He contentedly listened to the murmurs of his companions, watching them, but not speaking. They had turned to each other in their resting state, and he was fine with that. He fully accepted his outsider status. Looking around at each he remembered, as he did every now and then, that though he was an outsider they were all a part of the same herd. Somewhere in Hajim's castle lay census records that included his name, and the name of all of these horses. Aremis, this caring, polite preist. Ciel... well, he was enthusiastic and loyal to his god, that was for sure. Semora, quiet, but apparently there was more to her than they could have guessed. Cecilia, who was asking all the right questions, even if Ozzer felt she was too young to be on this journey. And Blaine. He hadn't spoken much since the others had reprimanded him. Ozzer found it hard to think of a kind thought towards the healer given their recent transgression, and yet... they were both part of the same herd. Herd camaraderie was not a feeling he was used to, but the smallest sliver of it sunk in now. Still without speaking the guide dug around in his saddlebags. When he found what he was looking for he began to pass out small portions of food, evenly divided amongst them. It should be enough to hold them over until they reached the temple. Once everyone else was fed, he settled down a short distance from the others to eat his meal.
Ozzer woke them the next morning, feeling well rested and ready for their last day of travel. It would be the longest leg in their journey, though, and so he got them moving without much delay. They walked along the river the whole way, passing through many spectacular, gem-lined tunnels. The trip was without much other excitement, though, and the rag-tag group had largely run out of topics to fuel their small talk. The donkey was pleased when he began to recognize the tunnels that marked the end of their journey (well, the first half, anyway, but he would think about the return trip later). They would arrive at the temple within the next hour. Ozzer smiled to himself in preparation of delivering the news to the travelers. "We will be there very soon now," he said, turning his head slightly so that he might catch their reactions. "Just up ahead the tunnel will open up and you will see the temple, lit in Argus's light."
But no sooner had the words left his mouth than he felt a shiver. It started in his hooves, and ran up his bones into his stomach. The smile vanished, and his ears shot forward, deaf to any replies, straining to catch any sounds that might aid in what his tremor sense was picking up. He knew, unfortunately, what it was. He could feel little pops; the shiver of stone. It picked up speed, and the cracks grew closer to the surface. It would only be seconds before the others felt the trembling too. (Post 5: 534 words)

Aremis l Priest
"Oh yes I used to do a lot of traveling with my teacher before I hurt my wing" He replied to her with a warm smile tugging at his lips. "But whats it like out that f-" He was suddenly cut short by Ciel and the priest couldn't help but laugh, a small vibration in his stomach as he shook his head. He didn't often laugh genuinely and it felt good. Aremis stood back up and nudged the smaller ones neck with his head, it was a playful gesture and also to calm him down. "We are lucky to have someone so strong with us. To protect us"
Later he thanked Ozzer and ate till he was satisfied, he fell asleep next to the river again, letting the sound of the water and the others breathing soothe him into a peaceful and much needed slumber.
(Time skip)
Aremis had lost track of how far they had walked and for how many hours but he knew that it had been a long time past which was why he was relieved when Ozzer said that they would arrive soon. He was excited and nervous at the same time but his nerves quickly turned to fear when the ground began to quiver and crack as he looked down and he didn't think that this was meant to happen. Something bad was happening that they couldn't have prepared for. He had already fallen through the ground once and he didn't want to do it again.
"O-Ozzer whats happening?!"
Aremis couldn't seem to hide the fear in his voice as he almost stumbled into the others.

Semora nodded at the priests response to her question then nearly snorted when Ciel attempted to one up her. When Ozzer passes out small portions of food she thanked him quietly and ate her fill. She got comfortable for the night in her spot and silently fell asleep.
~time skip~
Semora felt very well rested the next morning when Ozzer woke them up. She knew that this part of the journey would be the longest but she was used to long journeys so she didn’t mind. She just couldn’t help but to feel like something bad was going to happen soon, she pushed it to the side and decided not to dwell on it too much.
They traveled along the river for this portion of the journey, they were almost there, Semora was only able to tell because she could feel the excitement buzzing off of Ozzer as she walked behind him. “ We will be there very soon now, just up ahead the tunnel will open up and you will see the temple lit in Argus’s light.” Ozzer said to the group. Semora smirked silently to herself because she could tell they were almost there.
As soon as he said that semora started to feel the earth tremble beneath her feet, she gasped silently and looked to the others to see if they could feel it too. I knew it , I knew something bad was going happen she thought to herself.

Cecillia | Royal family
A wave of tiredness soon hit her as she lay down after drinking, listening happily as the others talked. It had been a long day full of walking, talking and full of impressions. It was just so interesting, all of these different horses and they were all headed for a god together. She wondered what it would be like meeting Argus. Ciel apparently knew him and really liked him. If they were good friends, the god would surely show, right? Not to mention Aremis was a priest, those were close to the gods too, weren't they?
Somewhere along the line of eating the food that had been passed out, the others' voices a pleasant background noise to her thoughts, the young filly's eyes slipped close. Her last conscious though being happy that she got to come. "Th'nks, C'l," a sleepy mumble as she drifted off.
---
The next day brought new energy and her excitement had not lessened in the least. Well rested, she was happy to skip along, not minding the group's silence. That was not to say that she didn't feel like jumping up and down once Ozzer announced they were almost there. Ooh, almost time to meet their god, she couldn-
She suddenly stilled, the tremors reaching her only seconds after Ozzer. Her hooves on the ground one of her main ways of navigating, Cecillia's sense of touch was more fine-tuned as most. Tremors were not entirely uncommon, well small ones at least, fleeting, passing. This one was not.
The vibrations quickly rose in intensity and Cecillia could hear the others reacting. It was hard to tell what was going on exactly, but Aremis sounded fearful. Was something happening? Not sure who was where at this point, she called out for the one horse she knew best: "C-Ciel!?"

The kind priest's words, actions and mere presence filled up the pony's heart and ego to the brim. He now felt a sense of duty; After all, it seemed- to Ciel at least- that all the horses here weren't able to protect themselves. It seems tha' I, the brave and strong Ciel Spyre, must arise to the challenge. He snorted to himself, almost giggling, finding the situation ironic considering he couldn't fight. But he wouldn't tell them that.
As Ozzer began handing out the portions of food, Ciel's mouth instantly salivated. The food smelt so delicious- especially after being concealed from his sight for so long. He awaited eagerly for his, craning his neck to catch a glimpse of everyone else's just to make sure he knew the size of the serving he was getting. When the food was given to him, he wolfed it down, and of course, asked for more. When he found out that everyone had to get equal rations, he felt really sad and went to bed. He lay himself next to Cecilia in an attempt to keep the filly warm, yet her little mumble warmed him up. The night's summary was him trying to stay awake and 'guard' the group, but he fell asleep early and dreamed of home.
Ciel was reluctant to awake that dawn, as the events that had happened beforehand has taken a toll on his legs. Groaning, but nevertheless as energetic as before despite flinching slightly each step, he moved onward. He had made his new spot in the group at the back, tiredly trudging, whinging, and rambling about nonsensical things. His head hung low, with his breath disturbing the dust particles that had been missed by the strides of his herdsmates that went before him, he looked like he was at the lowest he'd been in a while. Unusual for him, Ciel was fully aware of this but did nothing to correct it.
When the small tremors first struck, Ciel didn't notice anything apart from the sudden frantic movements of his group. Half-liddedly staring at their new fear of something, Ciel shouted, "What're you lot scared of?!"
When not met with a reply, he slightly raised his head and slowly checked the general vicinity for any physical danger.
"C-Ciel?!"
Now he knew something was wrong. He felt the tremors. And they were getting more violent. His head snapped upward as he located Cecilia, and he sprinted towards her, no matter how much his hooves were aching. "Cec- Cecilia," he breathed, his voice barely louder than a whisper, "Stay with me. Here- hold on to my tail." Ciel took his tail in his mouth, standing on the tips of his hooves, and made sure the tip of the soft hair dangled in front of her face, just lightly brushing her chin so she'd know where it is. Seeing such a young filly distressed like this brought a sickening feeling to the pit of his stomach. He desperately wanted to make her smile- and, so, spoke in a relaxed tone, "Don' worry. It's jus' my belly rumblin'. No need to be scared." Once he was sure she'd gripped the hair, he brushed the mane off her face with his nose and turned to see the situation of the others.
He turned just in time to see Aremis stumble. He placed his right foot forward in a heartbeat. "A-Arem-" The pony stopped himself as the pegasus got his balance back. Relieved, but slightly embarrassed, he searched everyone else. He made eye contact with Semora, who was also looking at the others, but tore his eyes away to see Ozzer. He felt frustration bubble up inside his throat, and trying to keep his balance as well as Cecilia's, he shouted at the donkey. "O-Ozzer! You could've been able to hear this from ages away with those big ears o' yours- why didn't you warn us?!"

Blaine | Healer
The small Araloosa continued his journey without saying much else. Not to Ozzer - not to anyone. Slowly as the day went on, he felt himself growing weaker and weaker. Something deep inside him felt horribly, physically wrong... and it wasn't from their treacherous hike that day. Ozzer handed out food, but Blaine refused to eat. It wasn't his style to speak up and complain about his problems. After all, there were more serious matters to tend to. So, Blaine decided that it would be best to keep his mouth shut in order to avoid any future confrontations, whether they were intentional or not. He went to sleep that night distant from the rest of his group, sprawled out beside a stone wall, the soft glow of pink crystals illuminating his purply hide.
Damn it, I must have overslept. The healer awoke with narrowed brows and a bat of his eye. With a yawn, he searched for the rest of the group. Everyone was already awake and heading off, so Blaine had no time to allow his eye to adjust. He stood with a grimace, still visibly in pain from the night before. Couldn't fucking sleep it off, what the hell is going on...
Shaking it off, he trotted off to the rear of the group. They walked for miles, and that's when he felt it. Was the ground shaking, or had his brain gone to shit, too? He froze and tilted a head to the side, staring at the hard ground beneath him. No... no, he wasn't going crazy. Something's wrong. He looked to the corner where the wall met the floor to his left, and noticed some tiny pebbles jumping up and down with the tremors. Cracks began to rise to the surface of the stone he stood upon. He looked at Ciel and despite the seriousness of the situation, he couldn't help but let out a chuckle. With a shake of his head, he rolled his eyes and stared to the stone ceiling above as he listened to the panicked voices of his herdmates. You've gotta be fuckin' shitting me.

OOC: Just so everyone knows what's going on with Blaine; unfortunately for many reasons I've come to the decision to retire him. He's got terminal cancer that he'll be leaving untreated and he's beginning to show early symptoms. As of right now he's unaware how serious his pain is.
