Red HareVindicators - Specialist xxxPost: #3WC: 245
It was a real mess of a mission Red Hare muttered in their minds as they sent a strong hoof caving in to one of the arriving soldier's helms as they made their way further down the corridors with a limp on their hind. Not always a good idea to kick through solid metal. Guards alarmed, gang bloodied (including themselves), hair fuzzed up from the fires, screaming from the nether shadows- well, a screaming wyvern now as if it makes anything better, and they're now trying to talk to it. It's a wonder really on what goes across in the minds of Vindicators, madness, and they may even have a little crazy themselves being part of this band.
Hare had taken attention to V's actions of freeing the locked up slaves. That was something Hare could do in this trying times. From finding battle plans to assisting the escape. It was a wide leap from one mission to the next, but Hare will accept this.
“Hare. Vindicators” they introduced themselves calmly to the dashing prisoners as they fished up a strewn sword from the ground. The cold blade was not something they were used to, and there wasn’t much time to be fussy about it. “Follow close. Fight if you can. Freedom this way” they spoke in a heavy tone as they charged blade first to any in-coming guards that were blocking their way. The safety of these hostages were now at their highest priority.

Reuben Vindicator | Explosions Specialist
Sweat rolled down his face as Reuben gritted his teeth. The guard was beginning to overwhelm him, landing a hit with his sword. Reuben saw Esmae dart past in the corner of his eye, and soon after the blast from her explosion. He summoned a surge of energy with pure adrenaline and swung his hammer square across the guard's face, causing him to collapse in a heap. Wasting no time, he galloped after the rest after Godric's bellow. He stopped in front of the large opening where there used to be a door. He squinted his eyes to adjust to the darkness and grabbed a nearby torch, holding it into the dark, humid room. There, unbelievably, stood a dark dragon with piercing blue eyes. Reuben's mouth hung slightly agape as he looked up at the massive creature. "By Ignacio..." he muttered. She was huge, certainly large enough to easily kill them, but Avelyn and Esmae spoke with soft, calm voices. The hippocampus' eyes trailed to her heavy chains and scowled. This dragon was going to fly free today. "I've got lock picks. Should I try to unlock the chains?" He glanced at Donnacha. "No. That might take too much time. We've got to get her out of here now." He took in a deep breath and walked carefully towards the creature, inspecting her position with the firelight. Reuben heard her shifting with the rattle of her chains. "It's alright, we are here to help you." He mustered up the softest tone he could as he quickly assessed the situation. She was in a divot in the ground, chained on her neck and her back legs. He had an idea, though he wasn't sure if it was going to work. Reuben turned back towards his comrades. "Can one of you take this torch? I'm going to need to see what I'm doing. The rest of you, keep talking to her to keep her calm." As soon as the torch was lifted from his teke, he unstrapped his saddlebags and began to rummage through it. The explosives he had that were strong enough to break through such chains were much too powerful and he did not want to take a risk with something that might startle her, so he grabbed a small axe he had borrowed from the bunker and his hammer. He came to the first length of chain, glancing up to the dragon. "It's going to be okay, but try not to move so much." Thank the gods this dragon seemed to be responding well to a calm voice. Swiftly, Reuben got to work. Without second thought, he broke the handle from the metal wedge of the axe, making a note to replace it later. He held the sharp end steady on a piece of chain that was laying on the hard stone floor, lifting his hammer above his head and hitting the blunt end of the axe with a clang. The wedge had driven part way into the heavy chain. He repeated this until the chain link gave way, breaking in half. With a satisfied grunt, he moved to the next length of chain on her other leg, repeating the process until that too broke. Moving to the chains that held her neck, he had to take another deep breath. He could feel the warmth ebbing from her. His heart thundered in his chest, but he tried his best to keep a good grip on his demeanor by moving slowly and thoughtfully. He definitely was not expecting to be freeing a dragon as big as a house today. He began working on the remaining chain against the hard floor. "Almost there." He murmured, hearing the commotion happening outside the room. With one last heave, the chain link that held the dragon to the ground was broken to pieces, the noise ringing through the dungeon and hall. Reuben looked up to the icy eyes of the dragon. "She is freed!" he announced, lifting his hammer in victory.

Strangers gathered around her.
Their voices surrounded her, the sound of hooves against stone and hushed whispers filling the cell. They were different. They did not yell, they did not attack. Though the beast could not see, she could feel what they felt. There was a sense of fear that mirrored her own, but something else accompanied these strangers.
One of them spoke - something wholly gentle, and something akin to another being she had not been with for a very, very long time. She hissed as she strained against the chains, though suddenly something struck against it - again and again and again - until it gave way. This voice continued, offering reassuring words as their weapon broke her chains, until finally - at last - it was gone.
The wyvern stepped forward - far past where her restraints had allowed her - and stretched out her wings. Her hiss morphed into a triumphant roar, and as the Aodhians raced to undo what the Vindicators had done, she stopped them.
Fire illuminated the darkness, and the wyvern stepped through the blaze, head swinging once more as she searched for those that had helped her. 4 | 188

Godric A million mile from home, I'm walking ahead I'm frozen to the bones, I am A soldier on my own
x | x Godric’s god eye had snapped to V as they had spoken and he nodded once in confirmation at the Hippocampus “I’ll cover you” he added, bearing his teeth at the few advancing guards. Raising his shield, he covered V’s path with his own body, his sword swinging at any who dared to get to close, at any who realized what the other horse was doing. Godric only glanced back once as the keys jingled and the doors swung open, unease hoofsteps accompanying the sound. The largest of the guards had finally got herself together after Godric’s last charge, and almost rearing, came at him again.
Godric pushed back against her, wary of the sword that had managed to pierce him beforehand. The wound still pulsed to the beat of his heart, blood still oozing down onto the floor. He didn’t care, kept pushing back against her even when she swung at his ankles and legs. Godric had been about to bash his shield into her nuzzle once more (in hopes of breaking her nose) when the roar had rung out, causing everyone to flinch and hold their ears back against their heads.
Godric opened his eyes in time to see the giant head of the scaled beast appear, rearing back just as fire encased half of the hallway, licking at his feathered hooves “By Digned’s hide!,” he exclaimed, eyes wide as he hopped backwards. Godric’s eyes turned to the Vindicators that had been freeing slaves “We need to get out of here” his words were hushed, filled with dread at the thought of being caught in a room with a blind wyvern.

DONNACHA ....
Slightly relieved, seeing as he really wasn't sure he could pick a lock that well anymore - just jumping on someone and grabbing their bag was an easier way to steal - Donnacha took hold of the torch when Reuben asked, and backed away from the chains as he hammered and sliced open the chains holding the wyvern down. He tried to stop flinching as the noises rang through the room, to save himslef the embarrassment, but of course he did, yelping as the first chain snapped. I'll be looking forward to getting back so I can enjoy being known as the one who jumps when there's a noise, he thought to himself angrily. "If any of you mention that or make fun of me if we get out of here alive, I promise I will smash your head in." he grumbled qyuetly.
At last, the hippocampus broke the final chain, raising his hammer triumphantly.
"She is freed!"
With bated breath, Donnacha watched as the wyvern took a few steps forward, spread her wings out and letting out a roar.
Everything happened so quickly. The Aodhians rushed through the door, clearly desperate to keep the wyvern inside, but it was too late. Donnacha swiflty rolled away from the wyvern, and next thing, all he could see were flames. He coughed, the smell of smoke filling the room, and searched for the others in the now-illuminated room, as the wyvern stepped into the flames. "Everyone okay?" He paused, then continued. "How are we going to get out, now the wyvern's free? The Aodhians will surely try to recapture her. Oh, and fire." State the obvious, as usual.
The dappled stallion squeezed through the part of the doorway that wasn't in flames, joining Godric and others who were outside. He gazed up at the wyvverm, who was swinging her head around wildly. "We're here," he said quietly to her, waiting for the others to come out of the room.

vindicators
“Thank you, Reuben,” Avelyn said, blinking back the tears still in her eyes. She passed his torch back to him, watching in horror and awe the spectacle that followed.
Maybe it was a strange sense of kinship with the wyvern, but as the winged giant was freed and pressed forward, burning down those who’d kept them captured, Avelyn did her best to keep pace. The fire never quite reached her, and she had to scramble on unsteady hooves to keep from being stepped on, but it was quite harrowing. Still, looking up at the dark scaled being they’d freed, she felt no true danger.
While the bodies smoldered in the flames that their new tentative ally let forth, Avelyn watched their head swing round, searching….blindly. Wide eyed, Avelyn scrambled forward until she was certain the sound she made caught the attention of the wyvern.
“This way,” she urged eagerly, then turned to the rest of the group. Donnacha’s question caused the hope in her chest to quickly dash out, and her mind began working wildly to try and figure out the next move. “There’s no other way out,” she reasoned, mostly to herself. She drew out two of her remaining knives, wincing as the fatigue of her over exertion in the fight before started to catch up with her. The burns on the crest of her neck ached, but one look at the utterly lost wyvern standing over them bolstered her.
“Let’s get out of here, quickly,” she said to the others, and turned sharply to begin the mad dash back to the mouth of the tunnel. Every now and then she would pause with one or two of the others, glancing back at the blind behemoth to give a quick correction to ensure they weren’t hurt and that the freed prisoners weren’t caught in the path. Never, in all her years of dreaming of freedom, had she ever expected something like this to happen.

esmae | vagabond | vindicator | Specialist ❝ Oh dear Alya. It worked. It actually worked. Hushed voices murmured in the darkness, one speaking defensively and another declaring the creature was free. Seeing how they all remained relatively unharmed, one could call it a miracle. When the chains finally snapped behind Reuben's hammer, Esmae inhaled a large breath. Now what? Whipping her head behind her at the sounds of approaching footsteps, she stepped aside to the nearest wall. They were trapped. At least until a mountain of flame was fired at the Aodhians. Well, in their general direction. Letting out a small yelp, feeling the heat growing dangerously close to her skin, she quickly ducked down. Blinking vigorously, she attempted to readjust to the dark lightning before assessing the situation once more. A little burnt but fine... for the most part. Watching as the others hurried out of the door, Esmae rushed to follow after them. Wary of the rest of the obstacles, she couldn't help but snort at Donnacha's remarks. Once everyone managed to make it out of the fray, she lifted her head to conduct a small headcount. At Avelyn's hushed words, Esmae found she couldn't agree more. The glamor and glitz of Aodh had worn off a long while ago. Picking up her pace, she headed out of the dungeons. Aiding the former prisoners, she helped them along despite the still ringing alarm. Spotting the flickering lights of the fireworks at the exit, she came to a stop and directed to the door with a jerk of her chin. "Over here." Hearing the following crash and rumble of stone toppling, she added hurriedly. "Quick." Before this place fell apart from the gigantic beast stumbling through. POST V ● word count 280
