BALE
Bale’s insides felt icy and molten hot at the same time, and his expression merely turned angrier at the other kirin’s laughter. He had to admit he could not understand why Ignacio had brought something like this back, but he did remember the last time he had faced Soleil. Then Ignacio had been there, to admit something was wrong.
Soleil was like a stain in the world, and Bale wanted her wiped back into whatever hole she had been tucked away in for all those years after the War.
He held steadfast, still sparkling into the ashy murkiness since that wasn’t a blessing Soleil could have touched. He would never be convinced that there was anything divine about this, and he would not abandon his people or his god. He had built everything he was around it, and it could not be taken away. He might have been, deep within, absolutely terrified, but he was even more stubborn. He would fight. Even if everyone else would be too terrified, by his god he would.
“I will go tell the King the land needs purged of fake kings”, Bale snarled as Nikolas was already pushing him, not necessarily loud enough for Soleil to hear but the intent was there. Had Nikolas not been taller than him and built to take him on, he would have protested more. He would have told all of them to get to safety and gone after Soleil and the wyvern. It ate him inside to turn away and go back without having destroyed the threat, but the wyvern’s flame made it obvious enough that he would have been risking them all. He might have risked himself, but not the others. So, he turned, keeping at the tail of the group, focusing on getting them back.
