Veles Briem | Consul [to Serora]
Veles wasn't quite sure when it had all turned- she had remained by the side of Hotaru and frankly hadn't planned on moving from her spot- hoping that these strangers would just pass on and not cause any trouble. Sadly she was wrong. Her head shot back in surprise at what had unfolded in front of her, the bell in her hair let out a loud cry as she snapped her neck back, golden eyes wide in shock mixed with a little bit of horror. "By Argus," the words left her lips with a deep sigh, sounding like a mix of someone in shock and a disappointed mother in the actions of these strangers.
She watched with frantic eyes, trying to think of anything she had on her that might be of use to the strangers- assuming they were no better than petty thieves at this point, but as she searched through her packs, she wondered if she had anything on her that would be of any use to them. Would they deem her items too petty for the life of the boy? Oh, the thought made her stomach churn.
She had a few scrolls on her, a book of Serora culture, and a small handful of shards that she had packed with her just in case something caught her eye at this settlement. The shards had been packed originally for the trading purposes of goods and knick-knacks...
But now it seemed they would be used to help the boy's life. "By Argus," she sighed out once again, hoping that it would be a decent stare to easing these low-lifes.

Masozi
Upon hearing hoofbeats behind them, Masozi’s ears flicked behind them. They could make out at least two pairs of them, one was most likely Alari, or at least the mule hoped it was him. Masozi didn’t take their eyes off the stranger until they heard their companion’s voice beside them, offering to translate the child’s sign language to the stranger and his mare companion. Maoszi almost jumped out of their skin when they saw the other stranger walk up beside her friend to comfort him. Now faced with two strangers, Masozi did their best to keep tabs on the both of them. Hoever, Masozi was interrupted before they even started signing. The mule’s ears snapped to attention when, Yasuo if the mare wasn’t lying about his name, wheezed out that he wasn’t attacked by a dog. Masozi puzzled over the meaning of that for a moment until they realized that there was a third stranger in their midst. The realization hit them like a hoof to the face right when a strangled cry rose up into the air. Masozi’s head whipped around so fast they were sure they pulled a muscle. Back near the outskirts of town, the third stranger was holding a knife to a young Breiman’s throat. Alarm calls went off in Masozi’s head as the stranger threatened to kill the child unless they got a ransom in return. Instantly, the child’s mind flashed to the cache of shards that were stored away in Ithaca’s hospice. That currency was important for medical supplies when trading however, and Masozi’s heart started beating painfully in their chest at the thought of giving it up. They didn’t want to mess up Ithaca’s job by taking all of that away. It seemed like that was the only situation however. With a whimper stick in the back of their throat, Masozi’s hesitantly trotted over to the newly discovered thief. They threw a panicked look over their shoulder at Alari, hoping that the older stallion would help them out with translation. There was no way any words would get past Masozi’s mouth in this kind of situation. Head dipped down to look as non-threatening as possible, the child approached with caution. Their legs were shaking so hard, Masozi thought they were going to collapse. Looking up from their position at the stranger, Masozi jerked their head over towards where the hospice was. They signed shards cache,” not wanting to talk to this stranger for any longer than necessary.

Things went downhill and they went downhill fast. The morning started off fine, storybook almost. Then it got worse. First, you think someone was attacked by a dog, and then there’s three strangers, two of which seemed nice but the third had a knife to another child’s throat and that wasn’t good at all. Honestly, there was a lot not good in this situation. And all they wanted was money! He never understood why those outside of Serora cared so much for the shards, or how such a simple thing could bring about such cruelty. It twisted Alari's stomach to think of what must be going through that scared Breiman's mind as they felt the blade against their throat.
Alari flanked Masozi as the approached the hostage situation. Gently, Alari pressed himself reassuringly alongside Masozi's flank because they seemed to be shaking almost as much as the young Breiman in the rogue’s grasp. “The shards are in the hospital,” Alari said firmly, inclining his head slowly towards the hospital as he spoke incase they hadn't seen Masozi point. “Just don’t hurt the child.”

Y O R U Young Prince / Royal Family
The warmth of the equine beside him felt too hot and ice cold at the same time. While this may have been comforting at some point, the circumstances the young royal found where anything but comforting. The cloak was caught up around his feet, fearing also that Doev would be mad that the fabric was destroyed would do nothing to settle his currently racing and blank mind. Body shook, legs trembling as one remained risen, eyes large and panicked. He could barely breathe, each time the dagger moved against his neck and caused another jolt of fear to rush through him. He was never going to come back to the surface again.
Tears trickled down his face and onto the ground below, his good wing held tight to his body while his bad one was pinned to Sinarin's side. It would be in a lot of pain once the adreline wore off but right now... Blood pumped through his body, drowning out the rest of the sounds around him. All he could see and feel was the large draft stallion keeping him at his side and threatening to kill him. This was not at all how this was supposed to go. Doev had promised him he would be fine.
How wrong he had been...
"Please...." The young boy rasped out, surprised that his voice still worked, even if it was quiet. "Winry..." It was the only person he sort of knew right now, the only one he could see in his tunnel vision. He was internally panicking and trying his hardest not to move. The harness was pulled tight in Sin's grip and he knew he wasn't going to be able to go anywhere.

Thief
......
The young mare kept slightly pressed against Yasuo, knowing it was likely uncomfortable for him. They just had to tough it out long enough to gain more info. As the young pegasus was threatened and held against his will by Sinarin, she watched and listened closely to how the other equines would react and speak. They were frightened for the young boy, which pleaded and cried. It was all almost real, though she knew it was all for show, what Sinarin was doing. Still, it was funny to see them so scared, and understandably so. She looked up at Yasuo when they mentioned the shards being in the hospital. This was their chance.
For a moment she was unsure how to put her words as delicately as possible, knowing they would make or break their mission. They had to get to the hospital, but without suspicion. She glanced down at the shards that were placed in front of Sinarin, before looking him in the eye for the moment. That should have been plenty of shards to appease his side of the act, though it was all up to him. There was no way for her to communicate with him between these innocent horses. In a disgusted manner she turned her head away from him, wanting to seem like she wanted nothing to do with him. He was the enemy, and that's what they had to stick with. For the most part their little act was believable.. for now.
Her hooves paced in place for a moment, while she looked around the camp, wishing to know the direction of the hospital. Her turquoise eyes scanned over the innocent equines, Seroran and Breimian, with a look of apparent desperation. "Where is the hospital, please, my friend must be mended." Her eyes then turned to Sinarin, her brows arching. "You have what you asked for, thief. Let the poor child go." Her voice shook as she spoke of the child, looking to him with sympathy. It, in a way, was a signal between them. This was all for an act, yes, but she didn't care much for witnessing death before her eyes. If she was behind the scenes and a few equines died, that was a different story. As long as she wasn't directly involved, everything was fine. On the field, however, she was involved in every way. They would be responsible for the death of some random kid that they had no business with. No matter, the show must go on, although she did hope he would release the trembling child soon enough before anyone got desperate enough to try anything.
She lifted her hoof, before placing it down again. With the stalling she was growing quite impatient, but she held her wits and act in front of the strangers. After a while she took her wing off of Yasuo's back, seeing that it had already been clear the role she acted as cared for the stallion. Holding her wing in the same spot, stretched in a way that felt unnatural to her for a long period of time hurt. From there she pinned her wings to her sides, keeping them there for now. Her 'companion' likely would appreciate this, but she didn't really care either way.
Evaris waited for an answer, for any movement at all. Someone had to do something to point her in the direction of her destination soon. Surely they would point an injured horse and their friend to a place of healing, yes? She was hopeful for this to happen, though there was no telling with these spooked tunnel rats and uncertain desert dwellers. ... ... Word Count: 607 Post #4

Sesil | Savior
Seconds tick by in quiet, each beat taking an eternity, time that Sesil did not have and yet time the situation greedily demanded. Then he hears someone approaching. First there’s the unmistakeable sound of hooves, an uneasy step, then a rasp and cough from behind him. Sesil whips his head around.
“You! Come with me!”
There’s a pale face peeking from beyond the tent walls, shaggy and peppered with age and with friendly blue eyes. Colourful feathers spring from his mane, and large wings are folded tight against his body. Sesil recognizes the elderly Seroran immediately. During the way here the mule had kept half an eye on him, on the bandages wrapped around his legs and the stiffness in his step, but he had been proven wrong in his worry. The Pegasus had moved with admirable tenacity.
But now there is intensity on his features, there is an urgency behind his whisper, and Sesil has the distinct suspicion it has to do with the shout from only moments earlier.
He approaches quickly, closing the distance with only a few tall-legged strides. There’s no question before he follows him, but with a whisper and breath he didn’t realize he was holding he hisses as they move, “What’s going on? What was that shout?”

Augustine Serora | Outsider
"We're being robbed," he said in the lowest whisper he could muster, avoiding eye contact. "Someone's being held hostage. Just follow my lead."
Hopefully they weren't too late. Anything could happen in the seconds they wasted. Softly, August padded between the tents to where the clamor had originated, looking over his shoulder to make sure the mule was following.
Don't be a hero, August. His conscience prickled his mind. He was old, achy and weak, and would probably make a fool of himself attempting to disarm a seasoned thief. He was being foolish.
But he had to try. If someone died while he sat quietly nearby... well, he'd swiftly wish for death himself.
August pressed himself against a cool linen tent, pulled his dagger out from his hood, and poked one eye around the tent edge. Twilight had grown dim. Darkness would help them.
A painted stallion stood a few paces away, rump facing August. Pressed against him was a small, dark pegasus colt. Something glinted under the colt's throat.
August turned to Sesil. "Stay here. If it turns ugly, intervene. Wind beneath your wings, my friend." He gave a soft smile and gently bumped his muzzle against Sesil's shoulder.
His heart fluttered. He hadn't done this in years.
A pale pair of horses, one bearing wings and one with a bleeding chest wound, confronted the paint stallion. "You have what you asked for, thief. Let the poor child go." If the stallion was outnumbered, this would be easy.
Pressing his wings close to his body, he quietly walked to the other side of the tent where the stallion was closer. He poked an eye out. Only a few meters away now.
In a quiet flash, August leapt out from hiding, pushing his dagger into the scruff of the stallion's neck. He sidled up to the stallion's ear, careful not to bump him lest the dagger slipped into the colt's throat, & hissed his warning.
"Leave."

Sinarin | Vagabond Thief
"Woof," the thief replied, tone impertinent as he gave a wicked grin to the stallion who had tried to corral the young hostage currently in his clutches. "I guess y'all saw through that pretty easily. It was pretty sloppy," Sin admitted, eyeing Winry, before his gaze flickered over everyone he could see about the settlement. He saw two more equines hesitantly approaching, silver eyes flickering quickly between all three about him. He didn't spare much attention for the lad he held close at dagger point, there wasn't any sense of threat there. The kid was petrified, and the thief admitted it made his heart sore. Sinarin didn't want to see the pegasus' expression right now. He watched another young equine sign something, and the translation made his brows shoot up. So there were shards in the hospital. A greedy smile swept over his expression at the admission. "Oh, that sounds way better than whatever I was thinking I'd get off that pair of travelers," the thief admitted, chuckling to himself. Ah, it was good to know the cache was real, and he figured his companions quick ears would have picked up on the words too. So he just had to keep causing enough of a commotion for them to snag them, since he didn't see any way of getting them himself, really. Short of really doing something nasty to the kid he had with him. Heart clenched at the pleading voice emanating from beneath his chin, and he felt something wet drip onto his chest when the colt shook against him. Tears, the kid was crying, pleading. Oh, damn. "Winry, huh? Be a dear and go collect the offerings being presented to me," Sinarin ordered, tone haughty from his position of power, stuffing down any feelings of turmoil. He had to get through this job, and if emotional scarring was all this kid got, then it wasn't like his life was ruined. "I'll let the kid go when I get my offerings," retort was quick to Evaris, after all, he couldn't be seen to just run away after being told there was a cache of shards in the hospital. It'd just cast suspicion right back on the pair who were supposed to slip and steal it. However, with everything going on and no obvious threats about, the stallion missed the older male slinking up between the tents. He'd dismissed him as unimportant. Kaia's tits how did the old nag manage to move so fast just then? Sin would bet anything the old timer would be paying for it later with his joints. The thief's grip loosened on Yoru's harness slightly and the dagger shifting away a tad so he wouldn't be accidentally cut, even though he felt the cool kiss of steal against his own skin. "Make me, old man," Sin snorted, lowering his own dagger as he shifted backwards, away from August's, while at the same time throwing his weight sideways to shove the old pegasus away. He brandished his weapon before him, keeping a firm grip on Yoru with his other silver 'limb'. "Just gimme what I want, and I'll leave," the thief reiterated, gaze switching constantly between those before him. He wasn't going to be scared off by an old bird with a dagger, but this was definitely creating an even bigger diversion for Evaris and Yasuo, so that had to be good news. Post 4 | WC//581

Masozi
A sigh of relief almost escaped the young unicorn when Alari came up beside them and translated their signing. Now all they had to do was to get the thief away from the other child, but it appeared that wasn't going to happen anytime soon. Masozi's face warped into a panicked expression when the mysterious thief said he wasn't going to let go of the child until he had taken the cache from the hospital. Masozi bit the inside of their mouth, glancing at the other young horse with a sympathetic expression. The Savior-in-training wasn't going to let anything bad happen to the colt if they could help it. Masozi nearly jumped when the old stallion suddenly appeared behind the thief, shoving a knife up against the back of the younger stallion's neck. A strangled noise bubbled up in the child's throat as they looked at the sheer amount of blades being waved around. At least the thief had backed his knife away from the child's neck to keep from cutting it. That probably meant that the thief didn't want to outright kill the child. Or at least Masozi hoped that was true. Feeling anxious to get out of this situation, and possibly on the verge of a panic attack if how hard they were breathing and shaking was any indication, Masozi whipped around to look at the horse that was still bleeding from his chest and the mare that was clinging to his side. They really needed to take care of that. The unicorn was sure that the old stallion could take on this younger scoundrel if need be. It wasn't like there was anything Masozi could do fighting-wise anyway. They were a scrawny child that had barely any muscle on their frame and had very little formal training in fighting, only what Ithaca was currently teaching them and what the orphanage workers had taught them in the past. Masozi side-eyed the two horses frozen in place with the child hanging out in front of them. They dipped their head to the older horse in gratitude and eyed the other foal with a kind expression, trying to convey to him that he was going to be okay. Wanting to get away quickly, the unicorn whipped away and trotted back to the white stallion, Yasuo, they reminded themself, and tapped their hoof on the ground to get his and the mare's attention before turning quickly again and heading off to the hospital. They wanted to take care of that cut on the stallion's chest as fast as they could and wanted to calm themself down before they broke down into a pile of tears and hid in some cramped space.

║❖ Yasuo ❖ ║ "The day is for the honest men, the night is for thieves."
~~~
It looked like Sinarin was in a bit of a rough spot now. But he was sticking to the story. At least he had that much sense. He tried to keep his breathing to a mixture of labored, stressed looking, but also that of him trying to calm down. But, they had to get to the hospital. Get the shards. He didn't really care if he got medical attention or not. He could handle it himself most likely if they got out. It would leave a scar, but it wasn't important. He was already scarred, what was one more.
His gaze turned from watching the performance to the equine that approached, putting on his best wary look now, as if he was still afraid that he'd be attacked again. But, he went off to the hospital... He wanted them to follow. Finally, they were going to get what they worked for. He didn't need to put up this... Performance. His throat still killed him, and he felt quite self conscious over drawing this much attention, especially in such a way. He'd done almost everything he tried to avoid, aside from taking off his mask...
Stifling a cough that arose from the uncomfortable feeling in his throat, Yasuo followed the other equine to the hospital, not waiting to see if Evaris was coming with. It might be suspicious if he went and started looking, when he was the one requiring medical attention... Damn... He guessed he'd need to sit and accept the help while Evaris looked and grabbed as many shards as she could, then get out with her before he got caught...
If she stole all the shards, and left without him and Sinarin, he would personally hunt her down. He was not leaving without something of value, not after the performance he had needed to put on.
Sesil | Savior
The familiar sensation of fury burns in his heart. It’s been a while since he’s felt that without it being dulled by apathy. He wants to turn heel, run back to the hospital and take as many shards he can manage to carry. They slaved away for those, there’s still time. He could hide them, bury them, and slip away unseen. They haven’t seen him yet. He doesn’t want to give them to these lowlifes, who are willing to stoop so low as to steal from doctors and rob a hospital, lower than low. They don’t deserve it. Those shards were going to save lives.
What will they do with them? Hoard them, proud of robbing doctors, holding a child hostage, sleep easy at night? Buy whatever in a flash of materialism and adorn themselves with it, convinced they deserved this, earned this?
But he can’t. He can’t outrun a Pegasus, wind under their wings. He’s not armed. By Alya, he’s not even blessed. No matter how bitter he feels about this, it’s not empathy and more logic that he doesn’t turn around and stay like the old man had requested from him. He stays, and watches this unfold. If this turns ugly, intervene. His voice rings in his head. Everything about this is ugly. Between them, the old brittle man and the small crying foal, there’s little honour to spare.
He wishes he was in the old stallion’s place. This plan was overhasty, bolting out in a delusion of heroism, but it’s too late to change things now. But when there’s shoving, dagger swinging, his muscles itch to move.
"Just gimme what I want, and I'll leave," the thief hisses.
Those shards were going to save lives, but there’s a life at stake before his eyes.
“Hey, HEY!”
Sesil steps out of the shadows, eyes set on the paint stallion, this thief. None of his anger shows on his face. He keeps his distance, enough not to unnerve him, enough for there to be a chance to intervene.
“The old man will drop his weapon if you shove the child my way. You vermin can get the shards yourself. That’s what you want and we're giving it to you. We want the child.”
They should get the child first, that’s the priority. He doesn’t think the thief wants to harm this child let alone murder him, but it’s the only position of power he has. Everyone's a little more emotional when a child is involved, rationally Sesil knows this, and when emotions run high a mistake is easily made, a slip of the tongue is as quick as a slip of iron, and killing a foal doesn’t take much. He doesn't particularly share the sentiment, but extra care should be taken. If he must, Sesil will walk the thief to the hospital, dagger to his own throat.
“You’re given a chance to walk away from this. With the money, without blood on your dagger. I suggest you take it.”
Alari followed Masozi and Yasuo into the hospital. He slipped between the foal and wounded horse, half to provide space for Masozi who seemed about to fall over, and half to inspect the other horse’s wound. While Alari didn’t know much about medicine, he knew that the wound had to hurt. At least it wasn’t bleeding as much anymore.
“Why don’t we get him into the closest treatment room, Masozi? Help get everyone out of this as quick as we can,” Alari gestured around the general vicinity with his head, as if the noise still coming from behind wasn’t enough to clarify his meaning. Yasuo’s cough made Alari turn his head back towards the larger horse, “I’m sure you’d like that too! Oh and ah, you’re friend is welcome to stay with you. If you need the support and all.”
As they approached the hospital, Alari trotted forward, opening the door for them all to enter in first. “Right this way!” he said and tried to catch Masozi’s eye as he gave him his best reassuring smile.
Masozi
Masozi breathed a soft sigh of relief when the injured stallion started to follow behind them. It was better to get the injured panicked horses out of this hostage situation before they got even more hurt, or before the thief decided to take those that were already injured as a hostage. Masozi didn't want any more blood to be shed in their new home. This was supposed to be a safe haven, not only for them, but for the sick and dying. Ithaca had told them that was why they became a Savior, to give comfort to those that were going to die of incurable illnesses. It was sad, but it was a kind gesture to the souls before they left to meet with whatever god they worshiped. The foal kept throwing furtive glaces over their shoulder at Yasuo, both out of distrust and because they wanted to make sure that the older horse was still following behind them. The unicorn almost let out a soft sigh when Alari sidled up beside them, acting like a barrier between them and the stranger. Though they'd only known each other for a couple of weeks at best, Masozi had come to like the older stallion's happy-go-lucky attitude. Their giant ears flicked at Alari's words, nodding in agreement. Though the thought of another stranger coming with them filled the unicorn with unease, if they were in the white horse's situation, they would want Ithaca to be with them for comfort. Hastening their step when they saw the hospital in the distance, the foal trotted up to the door, opening it without hesitation and walking inside. It was a rather spacious area, with enough rooms for both Ithaca and Masozi and their numerous patients when it was called for. Glancing nervously back at their company, Masozi's hoof thudded against the make-shift floor of the shack, letting Ithaca know that they were home. However, it seemed that their guardian was out at the moment, as the foal couldn't hear any shuffling from deeper within the building. Masozi threw a glance over at Aalari and the other equine "Ithaca's not home." they murmured to Alari softly, not wanting the stranger to listen in. Knowing that their guardian was out now, possibly restocking their herb cache, the unicorn led their small group to the nearest treatment room, prepping it so that they could get started with suturing the wound. Rolling out a soft, feather filled mat, Masozi nodded towards it. It'd be easier to treat the wound if Yasuo laid down on it.
║❖ Yasuo ❖ ║ "The day is for the honest men, the night is for thieves."
~~~
Yasuo twitched at another equine slipping between him and the other, being much closer now. The young thief's gaze flicked to the equine speaking, his mouth firmly shut now. He didn't want to use his... Make any noise now. He'd done it enough for one day. For a lifetime. He stepped inside the hospital, gaze darting back and forth. He forced himself to still tremble slightly, still acting like he was coming down from the adrenaline and fear.
He followed the unicorn, watching them take prep the room. Fine... He'd let them take care of the wound. He cast a short glance to Evaris, jaw tightening. He hoped she got the message to look for the shards. These equines weren't strong enough to fight back, he thought. If she bolted and they tried to detain him, he probably could crash through, despite being a jumble of legs and bones himself.
Moving over to the mat, he slowly lowered himself down, drawing in a short breath at the stinging it caused on the wound. He was already drifting away from the current situation, at least mentally. Trying to plan and come up with a plan to finally get out of here once they had what was needed. Sinarin probably already had what he needed. It was questionable if they'd see him again. Yasuo wasn't upset at the thought of not seeing the other thief. He didn't like working with others.
He swallowed, tilting his head to try and shield his scarred half of his face from the unicorn. He didn't want any attention on that. He felt... Vulnerable right now. Laying down like this, in an enclosed space. He wanted this done and over with, so he could drift onto the next town...

More feet, more pulling. The boys wing was flaring with pain, feeling the harness dig into the feathered appendage as Sin yanked him around. The dagger was cold, dangerous as it pressed against his neck once more. He couldn't do this, he couldn't be here. Hotoru hadn't spoken to him once since they had gotten here, Winry remained frozen. The briemians... They where proving unhelpful, completely leaving the royal child to this villain. He had heard them speak but as time went on their voices became softer, nonexistent.
How he wished Doev was here...
Though a voice spoke out and the dagger left his throat. Eyes looked to Sesil, locking on to him, pleading wordlessly for this to work, for something to work. Feet where tangled up in the cloak now wrapped uselessly around his neck. Harness was digging into all the wrong spots and he felt his pain rising but being cancelled out by the adrenaline and fear oozing around them all. Tears continued to fall, his little body so easy for the massive horse beside him to manipulate. Wouldn't this end soon?

Thief
...... Fools, all of them were, and it was almost hilarious to her. One of the residents came over and helped them like she pleaded for. She gave a singular glance to Yasuo, before following the young unicorn to the hospital. Another horse slipped along with the group, leading the way. Of course a talker would follow them. She wished he would just tend to the other group, since the mute unicorn seemed to be well enough to take them exactly where they wanted to go. Calmly, however, she walked to the hospital, to the jackpot. If only she could have acted as giddy, as well as annoyed, as she felt. But of course, she had to keep her act up still. Her expression stayed worried as she walked next to Yasuo, looking around the camp. It was such an easily accessible place. Around the hospital was open area and tents. Thankfully this was to her advantage.
Once they walked into the hospital to take care of things, she slowed her steps. With a glance to Yasuo, he gave her a look that seemed to signal that she needed to go. She then began to act like she was sick. "Oh my... I don't feel well, give me a moment. I'll be with you shortly." She lowered her head, seeming nauseated. A nearby room was open and vacant, so she walked off to there, to somewhere no one would see her. Granted, one savior checked up on her, though she waved them off. They soon walked away, and she was alone. Finally a grin fell on her face. It was time.
She waited a minute before peaking out the doorway to see that Yasuo and the other two had disappeared. Casually she walked out and looked around, peaking into rooms, pushing doors open, checking on others with a kind smile on her face. It was all casual, nothing too suspicious, but soon enough she was getting impatient. From door to door there was nothing. At least... until she reached one room. She glanced around before ducking into the room. What she saw made her heart stop only for a moment. A mound of shards, calling to her. The room seemed to be empty for the moment, perfect time to strike. The act was up. A giddy grin fell upon her as she walked up to it, basking in the amount of shards there were. This was all for her. No one else deserved it. After all, her "companions" in this mission were just pawns to her.
The sound of hooves thumping against the ground yanked her out of her mind, stopping from the victory she basked in. The job wasn't done yet. Quickly she glanced back, before grasping as many shards as she could. A soft, turquoise glow circled around the shards. She then darted out of the room, shoving past a Savior. Next stop, the front door. As she ran, others moved out of the way. Good. Anybody who was in her way she shoved passed them as she ran full speed.
Light pierced her eyes for a moment when she stepped outside. Her hooves pressed into the dirt, kicking some up into the air as she made a quick turn, darting for the forest. A few shards dropped from her grip, though for the most part she got as many as she could, leaving behind the thieves and the settlers. Two, three shards fell to the ground, but she didn't turn back. As fast as she could she ran into the treeline, passing behind bushes with a chuckle. She got what she wanted. It was over, she was done. So long, pawns. So long, gullible settlers. A prideful gleam in her eye shone as she darted away, with laboring breaths heaving in and out of her lungs. The wings on her back flapped, feeling wind course through her feathers as she escaped. With her victory she neighed loudly, allowing the sound to carry. She was going to be rich.

Augustine Serora | Outsider
As he predicted, one shove from the other stallion and August fell to his knees, the dagger falling from his grip with a gentle fwop on the ground. He grabbed it immediately, lest anyone else try to nab it.
Sesil was there suddenly, negotiating the terms, and August quietly slunk away between the tents again. Not injured apart from his bruised ego, he tucked the dagger back into his hood.
He trudged toward the hospital, where the white stallion with the gash was headed among some other Serorans. He fought away the humiliation that bugged his mind. He wasn't young and fit anymore- what made him threaten a skilled thief?
He hoped Sesil wouldn't pay for his own mistake.
He watched the hospital tent from the shadows. They were probably fine- the strangers had been earnestly looking for a medic while the thief barged in and demanded shards- but August watched anyway. The Serorans who escorted the strangers were young, and it didn't hurt to have another pair of eyes surveying the tent.
Somewhere a coyote howled, and the stars began to twinkle overhead as evening turned into night.
Suddenly, when August was about to doze off, the light-colored mare erupted out of the tent, spreading her wings and racing toward the treeline. Something fell out of her bag. August waited until she was out of reach, and walked over to recover what she dropped.
Shards.
August swore, staring at the treeline where now the mare disappeared like a vapor. Somewhere out there, he heard her shriek with glee.

Alari blinked in surprise as Masozi addressed him, but just gave a simple nod to show he had heard. He didn’t know why it mattered that Ithaca wasn’t home, since he figured Masozi could patch up the wound himself.
As the injured horse laid down careful on the blanket, and his friend had wandered off for some space. Alari wandered around the room as Masozi prepared to work, looking into the jars of salves lining the walls and tacking a tentative sniff at each one only to find they all smelled rather unappetizing.
The soft tap of horse hooves came to his ears as he wandered about. Alari assumed it was Ithaca coming back, checking on the rooms in the hospital. Suddenly, there was a commotion, the sound of someone getting shoved, and pounding hooves. Without stopping to think, Alari slammed the door to their room shut with his telke and put himself between the door and Masozi, keeping him towards the far corner of the room. There was no way Alari would let another child get taken hostage. If whatever ruckus outside came in for them, they’d have to go through Alari before they reached Masozi.

║❖ Yasuo ❖ ║ "The day is for the honest men, the night is for thieves."
~~~
The ears of the white equine flicked actively, listening, waiting... He heard Evaris' footsteps fade, and grow silent. He dared not move, nor react, for he did not want to give away what she was doing. But he was on edge now, waiting to spring up at a moment's notice.
Then he heard the clatter of hooves, a shove. His gaze snapped to the other two, one shutting the door to the room. He would foresake the medical care. Lunging upwards, Yasuo leapt for the door, pale eyes burning a threat to the other two if they dared to stop him. He threw open the door himself, watching Evaris bolt...
Without even waiting. Much less calling to him. A twinge of betrayal crossed his mind, and gritting his teeth, he rushed to the room she had come from, only able to grab a small, meager handful of shards so he wouldn't come out of this empty handed. He pivoted, turning sharply and rushing out of the hospital, ignoring the burning from the wound now. He was able to see Evaris as he left, but she was not waiting. She really had crossed them.
Anger flitted across Yasuo's gaze, and he galloped back to where Sinarin should be. While he should leave him, should just bolt and leave, a part of him made him slow his steps as he neared the other thief. He jerked his head towards Evaris, anger clear in his gaze, ears pinned sharply. While he could not say she had betrayed them, he certainly hoped that the message was clear with his body language, and the small handful of shards he held close to his shoulder.
Evaris was not getting out of his. If needed, he would track her down and personally steal his share back from her. He turned, sprinting after her, tail raised high, streaking away like a ghost. After all that, after sacrificing himself some, and doing what he loathed, she still had betrayed them both.
...This was why he didn't like working with others. ~~~
Masozi
With all the focus they could muster at the moment, Masozi doused a needle in pure alcohol before nervously threading a thin piece of thread through the pinhole, missing multiple times from their nervous shaking. Thankfully the shaking had died down since the foal had retreated to their adopted parent's home. They still didn't consider the hospital "home" just yet, but it was getting close. It took a couple of tries, but eventually the unicorn was able to thread the needle, setting it aside on a clean piece of cloth as they started to work on disinfecting the wound, taking another clean rag out from a bin filled with them. They pressed the cloth against the stallion's chest with enough force to start staunching the blood flow. Masozi knew just how much this would hurt and felt an empathetic wince. Paying no mind to the other strangers snooping, as they were too focused on their patient, Masozi didn't even notice the mare starting to wander off further into the hospital. It wasn't until the sounds of thundering hooves, shouting, and shoving outside of the room caught their attention. Whipping their head up, looking through the open door, they saw the strange mare running off, with a handful of shard's cluttering onto the floorboards after her. Instantly alarm bells were going though Masozi's mind as they struggled to their feet, watching as Alari closed the door for both the young savior's and the patient's safety. However, it was short-lived as Yasuo burst forward, wrenching the door open and gave them one last glare before bolting down the hallway. Feeling a sense of dread filling their stomach as the newly revealed thief ran back out the same door that the mare had, Masozi took off down the hall towards the crystal shard's shack. On shaky legs they threw open the door, looking in despair over the ransacked cache. So much of it had been taken by the two thieves. It's my fault, the foal thought with a choked sob as the shivering got worse. Their heart started to thud in their chest painfully, their breathing becoming ragged like something was crushing their chest. Knowing what was happening, Masozi quickly shut the door, laying in front of it to keep it from being opened again as they slid to the ground, tucking their feet underneath their body as dizziness prevented them from getting back up. Tucked up against the door, Masozi started to sob as quietly as they possibly could. Ithaca's gonna be so mad, they thought to themself.
Sinarin | Vagabond Thief
So much to keep track of. Sharp gaze flitted toward the tents at the movement, when the small equine turned and led his two fellow thieves into the tents for treatment. So far so good, he thought, as attention riveted once more on the two stallions before him. A second had appeared from a behind a tent, a picture of calm, he was. "Vermin? That's not very nice, dear. I believe I was a dog first, and I'll stick with that," Sinarin replied cheekily, biding his time as the old pegasus slunk away. "I will take it, but I'm not walking into those tents. I dunno who's waiting there, lurking in the shadows, like you were," the thief pointed out to Sesil, though his gaze flickered to the tiny collection of shards and vials of medicine that had been offered to him. Really, there were barely enough shards to buy himself dinner and a bed at an inn. Evaris and Yasuo had better found the real cache. He'd just started edging toward the little pile, nudging his hostage along with him, when he heard a whole new commotion go up. Hoofbeats thundered past, and he glanced over to see Evaris's rump disappearing over the hill. With a bitten off curse, he shoved Yoru away with a whispered 'sorry kid', and leaped forward to snag the pile of goodies as he sheathed his dagger. He was just starting to move, stashing his loot into his saddlebags when the masked stallion galloped up, the picture of silent fury. He had a few more shards clutched to him than Sin had managed to collect, which meant... "Iggy's balls," Sinarin growled, lunging forward hard enough to dig furrows with his hind hooves as he tore off after the pegasus mare. "We're gonna find that sneaky bird, and get back what's ours. Isn't there supposed to be some sort of 'honor among thieves' nonsense?" the dual colored stallion shouted the question to his companion, knowing there's be no answer. Sometimes gambling just didn't pay out. But Evaris was surely going to. Post 5 | WC//346
Yasuo lunged forward in a blur of white, so quick Alari could do nothing but gape as he threw open the door. His gaping quickly turned to a cry of protest as Masozi bolted out after him.
“Wait!” Alari cried as Masozi burst forward. He bolted after them, not worried for his own safety, but for their’s. He followed their hoof-falls to a closed door, but Alari could hear Masozi’s quite sobs behind it. Alari slid open the door revealing a simple storage room and found it empty of almost everything save a few remaining shards and miscellaneous valuable goods. Masozi was on the ground, curled up into themselves as shivers racked their body.
“Hey, hey, hey,” Alari whispered, getting down onto onto his knees besides the foal. Carefully, he pulled Masozi to his side, “It’s okay, shhh, it’s okay. None of this is your fault. How could we have known? Come here, just focus on me,” he patted them gently and whispered quite, nonsense words into the unicorn's large ears, and Alari planned to keep whispering whatever soothing words were needed, for as long as they were needed.
