Ianthe Planter, bird-call copycat and self-proclaimed Adventurer!
Ianthe was visibly relieved when her plan of action was received positively by the large group and a toothy grin bloomed on her face. She did a few high-steps simply because the energy within demanded it, and stretched her wings wide, before giving Oz a somewhat... sceptical look. Those were not wings, but she vaguely understood that there was more to the silly display and perked her ears as Tristan welcomed Oz to join the pegasi. It seemed to Ianthe like Oz wasn't too keen on splitting from Aspen. "Yeah, sure you can join us! Ya gotta leg it a little, keep up on the ground, but Tristan's right: We're gonna need sharp eyes, " Ianthe added in a chipper voice.
Once everybody was on board with the plan, and the group began splitting, Ianthe turned her attention to the fellow pegasi and Oz, an honorary feather-butt for the moment, and clicked her tongue. "Alright, so! Obviously, we gotta keep an eye out for the plant, but keep on your toes for anything unusual. Dingos, Thunderbirds, anything that could interfere with our very important search! " she said, puffing out her chest a little in the process, wings half-spread. She was itching to get up there! "I don't think we're gonna find trouble, but better safe than sorry, eh? "
Ianthe grinned widely and stepped back to give herself space, before taking to the air with a squee of glee, certain that the others would be hot on her tail. She awarded herself a minute or so of just circling around, before setting out to cover more ground and hopefully find succulents. And ore.

[ Aspen ]
Oh, Oz.
When her friend lifted plants to be his “wings”, Aspen couldn’t help shaking her head before she reached over to gently tug at one of his ears. She knew how much he didn’t want to go with the others, not really knowing who they were besides their names, but he could always go with the other two that seemed a little more shy if he asked them politely. The hippocampus and Rae seemed very nice, though the girl didn’t make the suggestion as her ears fell back when he stepped away. He had to know she would have dragged him along in a heartbeat, yet would the others?
She looked to her fellow pegasi, shifting her own wings. She didn’t dare them to say he couldn’t come, no. While she could tend to be overprotective of her friends, there was a line she knew it was better to not cross. Right then, they all needed to find the plant and its hidden ore. If that meant splitting them all up, then that’s what they’d do. She cast Oz another glance, unsure what to say that would comfort him. It shouldn’t take too long, should it?
However, there was the problem with Kristofer with him. He’d already blown a puff of smoke into Oz’s face when he knew she couldn’t stand when he smoked, especially around others, and then acted like an ass. All he’d gotten was a warning look at that time while her tail had swishing irritably, but then she was worried of him pestering Oz if he whined anymore about having to accompany him. Why did boys have to give her such a headache? Her eyes rolled before her ears pricked up, one boy that had yet to aid in her growing headache speaking up and actually inviting Oz along. Was he serious?
She returned his smile with a grateful one, trotting cheerfully back to Oz’s side to bump the unicorn’s shoulder with her own. No words were needed to express how happy she was to have him along, even if it would be a little odd should she take to the sky with the others. She was already calculating in her head where she’d fly, likely over him if a little behind, to watch out for the danger Ianthe mentioned when she launched into her speech since he and the others nearby would all be in the ground or in the water as Ryder was. “I doubt we’re going to run into any trouble, but c’mon, slowpoke.” The end of her tease, after her reassurance, was directed to Oz who she playfully nipped the mane of before skipping ahead.
She couldn’t wait to get up into the air either, Ianthe’s squee all but mirroring her inner excitement as she spread her own wings once checking that her friend was going to be close behind the mini flock before she leaped. Letting the wind catch underneath her wings, she circled once to position herself where she had planned, looking to the others that would fly ahead. Just keep a lookout for a cute plant and not as cute dogs or birds that would probably like to munch on our feathered behinds, she thought to herself, letting out a breath, no biggie.

[ Oz ]
The smoke in his face had been unappreciated, Oz startled when Kris decided to blow it into his face before he ended up coughing and shaking his head. His ears flattened and all he wished he could do was shrink away and disappear. He dropped his head low, away from where the smoke from his blunt had been so he could take in a few breaths of cleaner air. What surprised him was Tristan coming up to him and actually agreeing for him to go along with the Pegasai? He blinked, turning his head to watch as the Hippocampus and another land horse began to head off, following the river and then to where the other group began to depart.
Eyes landed on Ianthe, their leader for the entire group, and swallowed nervously when she gave him a look for him claiming he had wings. Sometimes he wish he did, though he adored his horns no matter how broken one was. At least she didn’t tell him no, telling him he was allowed to come with them so long as he kept up. The paint looked to his friend when she came by to bump his shoulder, a little smile on his face. “I can definitely keep up! I won’t slow you down,” he promised. In the case that he did fall behind, he was sure he could take that time to examine the areas down below. Maybe somehow one of the Pegasai missed something while being in the air. Keen eyes. Oz definitely had a thing when it came to hunting for gems. Plants? He was sure it’d be no different. Just follow the description the group had given.
Oz jumped a bit from the tug in his mane, the curl giving a bounce when he looked at Aspen. Slowpoke? She wished. He wrinkled his nose, listening as Ianthe told them to keep an eye out for any dangers. The one thing he would worry about being on the ground alone, but he did his best to seem positive so he didn’t look like a burden in their eyes. In some ways, he knew he could be, but even he had his positives.
As they began to take to the air, Oz kicked off the ground and leapt forward into a gallop, keeping up with the group up above. He certainly wasn’t as fast, but he chose to be right behind so he could examine the areas any chance he got. Though he tended to doubt a lot, he really had a good feeling they would find what they were looking for while they worked in a group.

Rae [ post # 4 || word count: 300 ] |
Rae followed closly behind water was he swam, his tail shining in the faint sunlight that poked through the ceiling. She could see that soon the shade would end and open up into a canyon but it was still a reasonable distance away. She wished she was born a hippocampus, it would be so much easier to just be able to glide through the water. She only had two choices, struggle through the water, fighting the current and exhausting herself, or drag her hooves through the thick sand.
Ryder distracted her from her self pity, announcing that he would swim ahead. She sighed in releif when he was out of sight, spitting a mouthfull of blood out and taking a deep drink of water. She stepped in, letting the water run up and standing where it just brushed her stomach. Rae snaked her head beneath the surface, smiling as it cooled her neck and head. The water soon returned to its normal direction and she climbed out, but didnt bother shaking off. She let the cool water stream down her shoulders and spotted Ryder swimming back.
He frantically shared his findings to her and Rae wasted no time to begin walking in the direction he swam. She was not athlete but now that she was cool and had had a drink she picked up a trot, pushing herself and silently repeating."The sooner we find these plants, the sooner i can rest."
They immediately began sorting through the huge amount of different plant species. She kept her nose close to the ground, sorting through all kinds of herbs. Some she knew, some she didnt. "Ryder, could this be it?" She asked, her voice hopeful as she picked up a curly, black tipped leafed succulent with shallow roots.
"As the world comes to an end ill be there to hold your hand." |

K r i s t o f e r I'd rather be getting high. Jemin and Nero had already begun walking before the inebriated 27 year old had realized that any of the others had even left his side. Spinning too fast on his hooves and throwing sand about, Kristofer nearly tripped on his own hooves trying to adjust his step. His vision felt as though he was moving frame by frame, as if in a slideshow they were shown as children - about the magnificent Alya’s destruction of the evil kirin, and how some of the war-worn mortals banded together to care for one another - the making of the early Seroran herd. Of course, Kristofer had believed all of this as a child - it was all textbook history stuff. But as an adult, he often questioned whether or not the gods had ever existed. Because if they had, they seemed fairly removed from their people now. Thoughts swirling, his brain traced over the memories of his parents - and how they had been stolen away from him and the responsibility of little Taline thrust upon him. He had become a mourning son, a father, and a sole provider of his family all in one foul swoop. First it had been his father, his death gripping the aging horse swiftly. It had started with coughing only a year prior, and had escalated to his father coughing up blood - the medicine horses had said it was tuberculosis, but Kristofer knew better. The dryness of the desert and the lack of rain for so long had scratched Abram’s throat and lungs heavily; he had been a planter, like Kristofer. Years of hard labor in the sandy fields of Sedo would do such things to a hard working man, and Kristofer knew this to be his future as well. His mother had passed soon after, supposedly of a broken heart. His mother had loved his father with every bone in her body - every essence of her soul breathed devotion to the gentle stallion. This had left Kristofer broken and confused. What did the gods care about some useless mortals on the sands they had supposedly created? Because clearly they had left his father to suffer and die with no treatments available to save his life. Clearly they had not cared to encourage his mother that there was more to live for than her husband. He had done his best, but his mother had given up before Abram had ever passed on. They had all known his fate - his father, his grandfather, great-grandfather, and so on, had died from the same ailment. It was lucky only for Kristofer that Taline was too young to understand what was happening. In fact, even now, after months of her parents being gone, he was certain that Taline was unaware that they weren’t coming home with him whenever he returned from his mission.
But unfortunately, he couldn’t handle all of that now. With the cacti high wearing off quickly, and his senses becoming sensible again, Kristofer turned his head about, hearing someone shout “OW!” somewhere nearby. He turned the bend around the canyon wall, following the rushing waters. It did not take him long to find Jemin and Nero, Nero bent over something in the dirt, and Jemin’s lip bleeding. “What in the hell did you-” But before he finished his sentence, he noticed the little plant beneath Nero’s face, with the kid’s eyes wide with amazement. Eyes widening and lip twitching with a strange mixture of anticipation and nerves, Kristofer walked over, standing tall above the ass and his cousin, slowly pulling a gardening trowel from his saddlebag with his translucent green teke. Nudging Nero with his shoulder, he bent down towards the plant, knees hitting the sand and knowing he’d get pricked by thorns but not caring much at all. Despite his cynical attitude towards the gods his herd chose to adore, Kristofer knew that finding this plant and what lie beneath it could be a huge turning point to the coming war between them and Aodh. And Sedo was his home - he would have no one put his home and family in danger.
Ever so carefully, he pushed the trowel into the packed dirt, grateful that it was slightly damp from being in the shade. His mind, his breath, even his heart seemed silent in that moment. Nothing mattered more than digging that plant up and finding the ore.

NERO: Nero barely lifted his head when he heard Kristofer turn the bend of the canyon. The other stallion towered over Nero's lowered form and nudged him aside, removing a trowel from his saddlebag. The blue roan slowly made space for the other stallion, more than a little peeved at his blunt, physical manner of 'asking' Nero to step aside. Amber orbs watches intently as the seal bay began to move the already dampened dirt. If they could identify this as the correct plant then their mission would be over shortly, 'all the better' mused Nero who continued to study the plant, making mental notes on it's appearance for future reference.
The ore that may be found beneath this plant was vital, or so Nero had been told, and if his herd believed it could change the tide of the war Nero was likened to agree. Despite himself he fidgeted with his hooves as the plant was extracted, he glanced at the dirt anxiously, wondering how deep the ore was buried beneath it. "Do you think it's the right one?" he spoke quietly, knowing he hadn't made the best first impression with Kristofer. He hoped, for both his sake and his herd's sake, that this was it, that this was the right plant with an abundance of ore beneath it so they could all go home.
His potion had almost completely warn off, which Nero noticed suddenly. For a moment he felt inclined to take a sip from his water pouch, but stopped himself. He would need to be paying attention. "Maybe we should alert the other groups? I can catch up with the pegasi pretty easily..." he mused, half speaking to himself, half voicing the idea to his cousin and Kristofer. He wondered how much luck the others were having in comparison. He even briefly wondered how Madden was, but instantly dismissed the thought. Nero knew if he lingered on Madden and his broken leg he would inevitably race back to him. Instead he took a deep breath and released it, albeit a little shakily.

Ryder | Serora | Medicine-Horse
Ryder walked beside Rae, careful not to go too fast for the young, sickly mare. He felt a twinge of pity for her even though he was sure that pity was the last thing that Rae would want from anyone, and he admired her ability to push through the pain and tiredness she must be feeling to get her duties done. Maybe he could make her an aloe extract when he got back to his chemistry equipment that could offer her a little comfort. The Medicine Horse had been practicing making more complicated medicines after months of studying from chemistry textbooks, and he had been quite successful recently with mixing different medicinal plants into a single, more potent medication for his patients who now recovered more quickly from their ailments with the help of his creations. Of course his medicine probably wouldn't be able to heal Rae, but maybe it could decrease her symptoms after some time.
"This is the spot." He said when they arrived at the shaded turn in the canyon where succulents seemed to be growing in every nook and cranny. "I'll start looking over on that side if you want to start looking here?" Ryder suggested, turning his gaze to Rae to see if she agreed. With a nod of his head, he set off to work and craned his neck to take a close, careful look at every individual plant that he walked past. There were so many plants, some that he knew, but there were others that he had only seen in books. Maybe he'd make it back here someday to harvest some of the more medicinal plants.
His search stopped when he turned his attention to Rae as she spoke and lifted up a succulent that Ryder had never seen before. Walking carefully around the plants around his hooves, he walked closer to take a closer look at the plant. It's black tipped, curly leaves were undeniable. "I think that's it." Ryder said with a wide grin at Rae. He then reached into his satchel and pulled out a small spade that he had brought in case they did find what they were searching for. Without a second of hesitation, Ryder began to dig in the soft dirt where the plant that Rae held had once been, and hope sparked in his eyes. This was it. He knew it.

Jemin Your neighborhood friendly ex-convict turned farmer --- Curse thorns.
Blood seeped from the shallow cut, angry and red, but the injury was minimal. Nothing that wouldn't mend itself. Jemin pressed his mouth into a thin line, pushing back the dull ache on his lip. Nero quickly materialized at his side.
"I'm fine," he mumbled, waving away the hovering stallion. And it was true, too - most of the pain had subsided to numbness, whether for better or worse. He opened his mouth to further reassure the rather anxious Nero, but found that his cousin's eyes were elsewhere, searching the shrubbery beneath his feet. And then the little prick nudged him aside, to which Jemin responded with an indignant snap of his tail.
"What? My hoof isn't hurt, honestl - ...oh. Oh."
As his hoof was removed, so was the crumbled succulent exposed to their curious eyes. His suspicions were confirmed with Kristofer's arrival, as the other farmer fell to his knees and produced a trowel, rummaging through the dirt with the look of a man possessed. Or, perhaps, it was the look of determination, the look of someone who knew - or at least tried to understand - the urgency of their situation. Jemin hadn't quite grasped that severity, however, and unhurriedly stepped off to the side.
"Well. Found it."
A glimpse of copper, glinting beneath the rolling motions of Kris's trowel. He leaned forward to get a better look, acknowledging Nero's suggestion with a nod. "Suppose you could, but the pegasi might be busy with their own search - although I doubt they've been as lucky as us."

Vitriak
Vit watched the others, watching with some longing as the pegasi took off. Why hadn't he inherited wings from his sire? Poor luck it seemed. With a snort and flick of his tail he watched as the group split up. Seemed he'd been ignored? Good, it's not like he needed them anyways, would just slow him down. He shrugged a little, green eyes searching for the most likely place to start searching, as if they hadn't been doing that very thing the entire day.
He sighed heavily and started walking, pausing when he noticed a glint from where three of the group had gathered. Wait. Had they actually found it?! He trotted closer, surprised and taking note of the plant. This was great! Really! However was it enough? He highly doubted it, and what were the chances that this truly was the ore they were searching for? Common sense told him it was too much of a coincidence and it got his mind running. If the plant was to thrive it needed another plant near it right? Unless of course it was self-pollinating. His brow furrowed. No, he wouldn't think like that, not if gaining this ore gave him a chance to free his father.
The grullo paint dropped his nose to the ground, inhaling deeply as he moved slowly from the other three. His pace slow and methodical as he slipped into a zig-zagging pattern in an attempt to scent a different plant than the one that had already been dug up. It was difficult though, what with the dust and the other scents, both stale and fresh that hung in the air, getting in the way, especially from that one stallion who had decided to start smoking of all things. Truly a helpful individual Vit thought as he snorted to clear his senses of the cloying fumes.
It took him awhile before he found something that seemed right. It had the same basic shape, similar scent, it just wasn't as dark at the edges as the previous plant had been. He looked behind, noting that he was a good twenty feet from the trio he'd left. "Hey, I might have another one here. Come check it out when you're done!" He called out.

Ianthe Planter, bird-call copycat and self-proclaimed Adventurer!
Ianthe moved as slowly as she could, mindful of Oz following on the ground, and she glanced back every now and then to make sure he wouldn't fall too far behind. But still the plan was to take to the air to cover more ground, and her burning energy didn't let he soar slowly for long. She ended up drifting ahead, staying as low as she possibly could without running the risk of crashing or clipping the stone walls with her wings, and keeping a sharp eye out for clusters of succulents.
Behind her she soon lost sight of the horses as the river below twisted and turned in slow arches. She saw Ryder as a blurred shape in the water and Rae following close behind on land, and she felt a tug of urgency in her chest. Ianthe always found it easier to think when she was flying, and the enormity of their task was slowly, slowly sinking in. Serora was going to war and they needed the coppery ore desperately. For the first time since she was first alerted to all of this messy war stuff, the young pegasus felt worried. And then she was distracted by a flash of green!
There, on a ledge barely wide enough for her small body to set down, was a cluster of low, green vegetation. She couldn't tell if it was the succulent but it was worth it to take a closer look! With rapid and powerful (nearly desperate) flapping of her glossy wings, she inched closer, gently planted her front hooves on the edge of the ledge and hung there like some bizarre hummingbird, squinting at the plants. They were succulents alright with small fat leaves bursting with juicy sap. But she wouldn't spot any blackened edges. A bit of dark color on the curled leaf tips, but it was impossible for her to tell if these were the plants the sought just young ones, or another dud.
Ianthe let out a sharp, shrill whistle, hoping to catch the attention of her fellow pegasi. Maybe Tristan or Aspen recognized the plant and if not she'd definitely pluck a sample for Oz.

[ Aspen ]
Slowpoke. Aspen had laughed when Oz kicked off the ground to gallop ahead, shaking her head. If that boy had been born with wings instead of a horn? No doubt he would have been a natural flyer, yet such thought were kept to herself as she leveled out and flew behind behind the group to keep an eye out for the plant as well as dangers. As sad as it was that his horn had been broken when he’d been younger, she knew he wouldn’t trade either of his horns for wings. They’d always made do with what they were: whether it meant Aspen kept up pace with him on the ground or took her time flying in the air above him so neither of them lost sight of the other. It worked out.
It had to right then, especially with the others counting on both of them. It wasn’t as if she could have walked beside him, could she have? They’d needed eyes in the sky as well, a couple of them at the least, when they’d gathered such a mixed group. Why had they done that, anyways? She wondered to herself, thinking as she flew and watched Oz gallop and scout below and kept an eye out for any possible predators hiding in the rocks, when she noticed Ianthe “hovering” on a canyon’s edge she had placed her hooves down on. Had she found something? The sharp, shrill whistled that followed confirmed her thoughts, Aspen veering away from her own path to fly over and inspect what had grabbed the younger mare’s attention.
“Did you find it or is this something else?” she asked, peering over curiously before glancing over towards where Oz was on the ground. Maybe taking a sample down to ask for his opinion as well couldn’t hurt the group. The plant did look like a cute succulent, no doubt about that, however it lacked the blackened edges they’d all been informed of. “We could ask Oz, maybe,” she suggested, glancing back over to Ianthe and Tristan. “How would we dig up the ore, though, if this plant is it? We wouldn’t want this ledge crumbling down…” A lot more than they bargained for could come away and fall. They’d have to make sure no one got caught by any rocks or stone.

[ Oz ]
Oz’s mane was a mess of curls blowing in the wind as he galloped ahead, constantly having to duck his head and shake them out of his face when they became too much of a bother. Too much hair was good for hiding behind, but it rarely helped with it got into his eyes or mouth. He tossed his head back to peer ahead, keeping tabs on where the rest of the pegasi were compared to where he was down below. He wasn’t too worried about falling behind, but he also just wanted to make sure he would be able to find them again if he needed them or they needed him.
Aspen stayed above him he did notice, the winged mare flying behind with him. To keep an eye on him? He didn’t doubt it, though he glanced up to her every once in awhile especially to see where she was. Eventually, she flew over to Ianthe who was examining something on a ledge and left him to slow down and finally catch a break. So far nothing, he noted, shaking out his coat before dropping his nose and looking around on the ground and in the sand. Plants, plants and more plants. Were they the right plant? Hell if he knew, he knew next to nothing about plants. Gems were his thing, and the sparkles from under the sand caught his attention. His ears perked, leaping over to the sand to dig out the shiny gem that was hiding from him and nosing it around.
The boy always could get excited when gems were involved, picking up the gem with a soft huff and then a pout. What good was he to the group anyways? Even if he looked, he bet he wouldn’t be able to find much for them. The gem was placed in his saddlebag. Curly leaf succulents with blackened edges, or something. His ears twitched, eyes scanning the ground around him. There were curly leaf plants, plants with blackened edges, or neither. Both? Was it possible for one to have such a description and not be the plant they were looking for? He searched around a bit, digging with his hoof in the ground by plants that could have maybe worked but he wasn’t sure about. Just in case. Are they sure they don’t just want gems instead of some ore? Surely a pretty and sparkly sword would be much nicer… he thought to himself, nose wrinkling when he doubted his search would do much. Gems he could find easily, plants and ores? Well, maybe.

Ianthe Planter, bird-call copycat and self-proclaimed Adventurer!
"I think I found it? Maybe? It could be a young sapling, they kinda have the same leaf shape, but there's not much black edging going on, " Ianthe replied to Aspen's question, raising her voice over the loud beating of wings. Her head bobbed in agreement as Aspen suggested bringing a sampling to Oz. He was a gatherer, right? So maybe he knew something about plants. At least if he recognized this one it meant it wasn't the illusive ore succulent.
"Can you take a sample to him? " she asked, having noticed the connection between the two. Oz seemed exceptionally skittish, so in her mind it would be better to have Aspen approach him. "And, hrmmm... if it is the right succulent, we should probably mark the location. I don't think anyone expects us to drag back all the ore we find. We can always return with more help and tools to dig up the last bits! "
With that said, Ianthe gently pushed herself away from the ledge, giving Aspen the space needed to pluck a proper succulent.

NERO: His copper eyes followed Kristofer's shovel as he unearthed the ore. "Well. Found it." Nero heard Jemin say brightly. The roan's ears pinned back and he cast a slow, reproachful glance at his cousin over his shoulder. In response to Nero's question on whether to retrieve the others Jemin replied, "Suppose you could, but the pegasi might be busy with their own search - although I doubt they've been as lucky as us."Nero nodded at that, he did wonder how the others were fairing, though he secretly hoped they had been the only ones to find it. Maybe Kristofer had been right, Jemin really was good at this. "Well," he started his voice sounding a little monotone as he focused on the shovel and it's progress into the earth, "let's see if we even find any ore first. Alya knows what we'll do with it. I doubt anyone brought a pickaxe or mining material."
Kristofer had cleared a decent amount of dirt when the first few sparks of amber metal appeared. "There..." Nero breathed excitedly. The ore was a slightly brighter, more glimmering copper than his own eyes. "That will make a fine piece of armour."

Ryder | Serora | Medicine-Horse
Ryder dug deeper and deeper underground with his small spade, working tirelessly as hope fueled his tired body. The small group of succulents around them certainly seemed to be the ones that had been described to them. Their black, curly leaves showed that the precious ore they had been sent after was under the soil. Not knowing how deep he would have to dig, it felt like an eternity was passing by with no evidence of any kind of metal under their hooves. Maybe the plant had grown here without the ore. It probably didn't need the ore to grow.
As he was beginning to lose hope, the sunlight caught on something in the soil, and its coppery color glistened brightly. A wide smile appeared on Ryder's face as he carefully brushed off the thin layer of dirt that was covering the part of the ore that had been revealed. "Rae, I think we've found what we're looking for." Ryder said, offering her a cheerful smile before uncovering the rest of the large hunk of metal and lifting it into the sunlight to study it closer.
It was heavy and tough, and Ryder could see why it was being sought after in preparation for war. "I can imagine this being some strong armor for someone... or maybe a shield." The Medicine Horse muttered, his voice taking on a slightly saddened and deflated tone. Finding the ore was making his wildest imaginations of the war become more and more true, and he wished that this was all some sort of dream, that Serora wasn't going to go to war and that they would just continue their peaceful way at life, blissful in the silence and serenity of their home.
"Off to war we go..." Ryder mumbled as his spade struck the dirt once more.

Rae [ post # 5 || word count: 230 ] |
The long awaited discovery of the succulent they had been searching for all day gave her a burst of new energy and hope. While Ryder hastily dug in with his spade on one half of the patch, she began digging on the other. Rae had not brought a shovel so she used her telekenisis to lift a curved rock, and began her search for the ore.
It felt like forever until Ryder turned to her, holding up a large chunk of the coppery material. She smiled eagerly, "I hope i find some soon aswell." She said, turning back to her own pit as he returned to digging aswell. She was covered in dirt and sand, her blue eyes scanning for any familiar glint. Finally, her rock hit something other than dirt or another rock and she hastily uncovered her own piece of ore. "Finally," She sighed, holding it up to the sun and admiring the way it reflected.
She brought it back down in front of her, holding it like it was the most precious thing she had ever seen, and at the time, it was. In her distraction a drop of blood fell from her lips and onto the ore, sliding down it and leaving a red trail. She could only imagine who elses blood would stain it later.

[ Aspen ]
“Doesn’t hurt to ask. We were all told what the plant would look like, so a third or fourth opinion won’t do much damage. If it’s not the plant, then at least she tried.” Not that Oz was any expert on plants. Too bad it was the ore itself they were poking around to find, already uncovered or just digging in a cave. He was better at that kind of things, especially with gems being pretty much his specialty. Still, the girl agreed to Ianthe’s question and smiled. “We could always mark it anyways, just in case. Worse come the worse, and if this isn’t the plant, at least we could all have some cute succulents for our homes.”
A joke, if anything. No one was coming back just to dig out little plants and plop them into pots to care and water for back at their homes. At least Aspen didn’t believe she nor Oz was, but then wasn’t the time to get into a discussion about it as she moved to take the place Ianthe had once hovered in to carefully take a sample from one of the plants. It wouldn’t miss one little leaf, would it? She hoped not, plucking a leaf within her telekinetic grip rather than dare to risk grabbing it with her teeth and getting poked in the mouth. That would be unfavorable.
She pushed her own self away from the edge, dropping towards the ground before she spread her wings to catch herself and land on the ground a little more gracefully than she probably could have if she’d stumbled. She shook out her feathers, and folded her wings snuggly against her sides, so that she could trot over to her friend poking around in the dirt with his hoof. “Hey Oz! Did you find anything interesting?” She grinned, playfully bumping his side with her shoulder until she presented to him the leaf she’d snagged. “Also, what do you think of this? Ianthe suspects it could be a young sapling.” Which meant, if it was, they were all that much closer to heading home.
Hopefully the others digging around had been just as potentially successful. Getting home, unpacking, and unwinding sounded like a great idea after an adventure - once, of course, they brought their findings to the council. That would need to be done and they’d need to mark what canyon the ore had been found in so far.

= T R I S T A N = "You can't take the sky from me."
WC: 306 | Post: 3 Tristan spread his wings and leapt into the air with a broad grin and a cheerful flick of his tail. The cool air rushing past his face felt wonderful and he could feel the weariness seeping away as he beat his wings against the air. He flew close to the ground - or, well, to the higher ledges - and kept an eye out for the plant. He didn't have many succulents in his collection; they weren't really his style. This one, though, sounded like it wouldn't be difficult to spot.
In the end, Ianthe and Aspen found it on a ledge out of reach of the normal horses. Tristan fluttered down to a ledge next to them, not wanting to overcrowd it and possibly loosen its grip on the canyon wall. There were succulents on this ledge too, though only one or two had the leaves he'd been told to look for. Carefully he pulled one up, making sure not to break too much of the roots, and stuffed it into a small burlap bag he kept for the purpose of taking plant samples. This would be a fine addition to his collection.
Under the plant he caught the glint of something metallic. Quickly he brushed away the surrounding dirt, exposing a small lump of ore. He stuffed it in his bag and called to Ianthe and Aspen. "Hey, I found some ore! We've definitely got what we're looking for. You think the others have found anything?" He kept digging, using a flat stone to push the earth aside. It was slow and ineffective, and they'd probably have to return later with shovels and other helpful gear, but for now just knowing where to find the ore would be enough.

[ Oz ]
Oz’s own search kept him focused in front of him, digging here and there with his hoof or nosing around anything that looked like it could help. The shadow that hovered over him as his friend approached had his breath still before he jumped to being nudged and spun around, ears flattened. Oh. He let out a little sigh, shaking his head that he then lowered when he realized it was only Aspen and he, as usual, overreacted and got startled over nothing. Wasn’t it always nothing to begin with and he was nothing but a big baby?
“I found a gem,” he explained slowly, glancing over his shoulder and to his saddlebag. “Though I haven’t had any luck searching around down here. It’s probably here somewhere, it’s just got to be.” His ears perked forward when she showed him a sample of a leaf she took for him, head tipped to one side as he examined it. It seemed to fit the description… Curly leaves, but no blackened edges. If he’d known anything at all about this one particular plant, it would have been no problem giving her an exact answer, but he was unsure.
“I want to say to check just in case. If it is just a young plant, then I’m sure it’s what we’re looking for. It doesn’t hurt to check, does it?” he suggested, huffing out a quiet breath. It would only take a few extra moments of their time. “I’ll continue to keep an eye out down here. There’s bound to be more.” And he refused to give up so easily. There were so many gems he could find, but those could wait until after he supposed. These ores were much more important and their herd needed it desperately.
