CLYTHUS
The night air was warm and welcomed. It swept up around them, lifting their manes and playing with their hides. Clythus closed his eyes slightly and enjoyed the feeling briefly. As the words of the other licked over his ears, the slave gave pause and looked at the other. That topic was still so sensitive and as much as Axenus tried to make it into a joke, Clythus felt his heart drop. He had never actually meant to bite him. He had only just become angry and snapped his teeth towards him in a show of that emotion. Swallowing hard, the silver stallion only sort of snapped out of it when he was nudged.
"Sorry..." Whispering the word, Clythus looked away and down at the sand as they finally reached the beach. "I never meant to actually bite you..." Moving up to the ocean he paused once more and looked up. The moon was bright and the ocean was calm. Waves licked lazily at his hooves and with a small breath the male walked forward into the water, enough to let his mane ends and tail float and glide through the surface.
"My scar... I got it during a fancy ball. My master had paid a large sum of money to go and when we got there he accidentally offended one of the nobles by stepping on his clothing. While my master apologized and everything seemed to be ok, it was clearly not for the noble. As the night progressed, the other equine became more agitated and before I knew what was happening I saw his horn glow. Without even thinking I leapt, blocking my master without a second thought and felt the magic burn over my face and neck. I'm lucky to have not lost my eye but... He couldn't afford to have anyone heal me so he had to tend to me at home... It didn't heal well and it's part of the reason I hide it. He also treated me differently after that and I couldn't only assume it was because I was now not perfect..." A single tear fell and the slave dropped his head to the water, moving to fold his legs and lay in the shallow water.

It wasn’t difficult to realize his joke was uncalled for, his lips pressing into a thin line when he saw it on Clythus’s face. He made a mental reminder to not make anymore jokes on such sensitive topics, no matter if he was trying to be nice and lighten the mood. Such jokes weren’t always appreciated and there were other ways to go about it. He puffed out a breath of air, a long and heavy sigh, turning his head up towards the sky to watch the stars above.
“I know that,” he replied, his eyes shutting momentarily. “You were angry. It must have been something I said or did, but I promise you my intentions were good…” Somehow. He just wasn’t always the best with words and they didn’t come out how he meant them, or some didn’t understand what he was trying to say and took it wrong. “I don’t blame you, Clythus. Honestly. I don’t want you to hold it against yourself.” It was over. It was done and in the past. He dropped his head, peeking his eyes open to watch the other stallion moved through the water before laying himself in the shallows. Should he join him? He was already well groomed and his feathering wouldn’t appreciate getting soaked and sandy, nor his coat. Ax stood where he was, ears forward as they explained the night he’d gotten his scar.
A Noble. Of course it was them. The Chevalier always felt wary around them, watching his mouth and his actions to not face any consequences should he have done something wrong accidentally. Death. It was surprising the Noble didn’t take it as far as that, only attacking the mere slave owner who was being defended by their slave. A frown turned down his lips, his eyes dropping to the sands below. “I am sorry, Clythus. You… didn’t deserve that. Any of it,” he murmured, taking a step forward and into the water. A bath would have to do after to get rid of the mess he would become, setting himself into the water with the slave and reaching over to nose his shoulder. “I… still don’t think it’s anything to hide. You did what you could for your master. You tried to protect him from what would have happened instead.” No one was perfect. Everyone had their own little imperfections. His jaw tightened, words not coming to him as he would have liked and it made him worry that he’d say something wrong in the end. So he settled with simply being there for the other stallion, hoping he could provide comfort if they needed it.

CLYTHUS
The silver male watched his hair weave with the eb and flow of the water. The push and pull. dual colored eyes glanced up as the other ventured closer, seeming to lay behind him in the water. Smiling softly he looked down at the liquid, trying to see himself. "I don't... Regret it. I did what I felt was a slave's duty..." Swallowing hard he tried to place his words into thoughts. "But.. As a slave, a servile slave, much of what we are valued on is how we look. I... I grew my hair long not just to hide it but to show I am in good health and that I can be elegant even with this massive amount of hair..." The stars where bright tonight, twinkling perfectly over head.
"I... I'm glad we didn't part ways tonight Axenus..." Clythus confided after a while of silence. "I'm... Glad we stuck it out and ended up here." Another weak smile and he turned his head to lip gently at the others forelock. "I have a good mistress now... If you are worried about that. Though I wouldn't mind you walking me back home." With another soft breath he looked up at the stars. "Did you grow up here?"

“No. I honestly wouldn’t have regretted it either,” he admitted, watching the slave with gentle blue eyes. “It was a very brave thing of you to do. Not everyone has it in them.” And he thought he should feel proud, no matter what it was that a slave owner may have thought, even if they questioned their worth based on appearance. Had Ax been allowed to keep slaves at all being a Chevalier, had he been given the chance to purchase the slave before him in some other life or universe, he would have and he would have made him feel valued. They weren’t words he chose to share, knowing his way of thinking or how he said things got him snapped at earlier, so he was silent as he listened to them.
“Well. I think it’s beautiful,” he told Clythus, referring to both his scar, the story behind it, and the hair he explained he grew out. It truly was. He offered a small smile to him, ears flicking forward when he teased at the hair falling into his face. “But I am also glad we didn’t part ways.” He wouldn’t have turned and left, or really left it as it was back at the Casino with Clythus being angry at him. No matter what, he would have tried to fix it one way or another.
Ax stretched his leg out in front of him, disturbing the water that had almost sat so peacefully with them in it. “I would love to accompany you home, Clythus. I’ll make sure you reach home untouched and unscathed,” he promised, following their gaze up to the stars with his lips pressed into a thin line as he thought. “I did grow up here, yes, but I doubt my story is very interesting,” he laughed, his head slowly shaking. A boy almost too difficult and stubborn to handle, diving into a life of gambling, sex and alcohol. It didn’t sound like a story anyone would care much for.

CLYTHUS
At the approval to walk him home, the silver stallion slowly stood. Stepping carefully away from the chevalier, giving him space to rise as well, the slave shook off and used his teke to gently braid up his hair. It would be easier to walk home this way. Plus with it now being wet, if would gather everything off the ground. Eyes flickered to the sky, watching the stars twinkle. To think this night would end like this... He was so happy. So calm. Ears flickered forward and the silver dappled male smiled softly.
"I'd love to listen to it while we walk, Axenus..." His voice was gentle, not prying. If Axenus really didn't want to talk about it, clythus would make sure not to push it. It would be too much, after what he had pulled at the bar... He didn't want the Chevalier to feel uncomfortable ever. If anything, it should be the other way. Moving onto the sand, the long silver haired male waited before starting forward as the two of them took to the roads.
Their footsteps where soft, echoing gently through the night air. It was peaceful, and the lanterns lit over the street cast a soothing orange glow over the city. It was a night he longed for each night...

As the other stallion rose to his hooves, Axenus waited an extra moment before he pushed himself up as well. The ends of his mane were dripping, his tail floating in the water even as he stood. His eyes were on Clythus, watching him braid up his mane. He cleared his throat after realizing he was staring a few moments too long, shaking his head and flicking his ears back.
Only when he was spoken to again did he look back to the slave, listening to his words. If he really cared enough about what he had to say, then he supposed there was no harm in explaining somethings. Ax was silent when he followed them out of the water, not enjoying the way his feathers stuck to his legs and picking up sand when his hooves sunk into the soft ground. Damn water. He was going to need a bath at some point that night to clean himself up. There was no way he was going to track sand and water into his bed.
With a quick pause once they were on the sand, the Chevalier gave himself a quick shake before trotting along with Clythus. It was hard to decide what was worth sharing at all, his head dipped low on their walk yet he enjoyed the silence of the night and the peace that came with it. He took in a breath and softly let it out, lifting his head but keeping his eyes on the road ahead.
“I personally don’t think there’s much interesting about my own life,” he admitted, flicking his tail behind him though he knew it did little for the sand that clung on. He was a mess and that was that. “My parents own a big house where I grew up, alone apart from the slaves they had helping around. Uh, I guess being the only child and having rich parents, I was kind of spoiled and stubborn and was hard to handle. Mm… I became addicted to drinking, gambling and sex when nothing else was much of an interest to me.” So it was the only thing he cared for at that point when he needed something to put an end to the boredom.
Axenus side glanced at the slave, but he didn’t think he would really judge him for some of the things he did. Not everyone was perfect and he surely wasn’t, he knew that. “My parents did get sick of my crap and worried for me, since I did get into too many fights while drunk and tossed away money just like that-- though that part hadn’t changed much. I guess neither really did? But, they thought me being a soldier would give me some purpose to my life, that it would help me change or something. I don’t think that did it, but I do enjoy my job.” He’d made lots of friends, especially with the slaves and he enjoyed being around them even if he didn’t enjoy the idea of slavery. But, what was he to do as one simple horse? There was no power that he had that could help him change anything in just the blink of an eye. Though I wish, Lord Ignacio. I do wish...

CLYTHUS
Dual colored eyes watched the more then fluffy stallion try to rid the sand from his feathers and tail. "Sorry about that..." Clythus spoke softly but he was clearly not sorry. At all. The time in the water had been so calm and so gentle. It was exactly what he needed. With a gentle nuzzle to the others shoulder he started forward, walking effortlessly beside him though never completely in tune with his shoulder. Always one step behind.
"Everyone has something interesting Axenus... You should know that by now..." Clythus was for sure starting to ease up, even able to banter gently with him. Though as Axenus spoke again the silver stallion nearly stopped in his steps. Part of him wished he had ended up being part of that house, knowing he could have made the stallion happy, somehow. "I'm sorry that happened..." He whispered softly at the mid pause, ears flickering forward as he kept his head down. When he picked up his story once more, the slave shook his head, braided hair slapping his neck gently. "I'm glad it helped you find some sort of purpose. It's nice to know there's a Chevalier out there that has a bit of heart in them." Eyes glistened in the moonlight and lantern glow as they walked. Clythus had seen Axenus through out his journey's in Ethine and knew that his jobs was that of the soldiers. The ones keeping the peace and the safety of the streets. He did with the labour slaves where treated better through.
With a small nuzzle to Axenus's side he closed his eyes and breathed out deeply. "Thank you for this lovely night Axenus... I haven't been in the sea at night before in a very long time. It was very soothing." They where nearing the steps of Clythus's Mistress's home and the slave was trying to say his goodbyes in a better way then just saying thanks for the walk, see you later...

Everyone has something interesting. The comment got a chuckle from the stallion, amused was he watched Clythus. After telling him the bits and pieces about himself, could he honestly tell him his life had been very interesting at all? Axenus shook his head, the question never leaving his mouth just in case it ended up being insulting in some way. “There’s nothing to apologize for. It happened, it was in the past.” And some parts still in the future, though he was to blame for how he was then, and how he shaped out years later. Some parts weren’t all bad, he could admit. For the most part, he was more relaxed and cared for more than just things that gave him temporary pleasure. He wasn’t just some dumb fool.
“There are other Chevaliers out there with some heart. I know I can’t be the only one,” he commented, a soft breath slipping past his lips. “I just know there aren’t many, nor have I come across one yet, but there has to be.” Somewhere hidden in Aodh. Maybe he has met those, he just never bother to open up about his own feelings towards slavery due to how serious the herd was about it. He didn’t want the others to look at him strange, and not even because of his feelings as no words really stung. They just angered him and he didn’t want to do anything stupid.
The Chevalier’s brows lifted in curiosity when the other stallion nuzzled his side, a warm smile lighting up his face. His head swung around to meet his own, cheek brushing against the slave’s before he nudged his ear with his muzzle. “I am glad you enjoyed tonight,” he murmured, though he could argue the beginning hadn’t turned out so pretty (jokingly). They were words kept to himself, the stallion pausing when they did approach the house Clythus lived in. Ax watched him momentarily, ears twitching in thought. “I’m sure I’ll see you around, Clythus. If you ever just need to get away or want something to do, you know where to find me. Take care of yourself, alright?” And goodnight. The last part was no more than a whisper, Ax standing where he was to make sure the slave got inside safely as it was his job to.
