Bloody Flanks Raider #2
Word Count: 204 +1 AP?
The large red Belgian-Draft mix stallion stepped along side his two other herd companions. The snow under his hooves seemed to groan and pop under the weight of him. The unicorn grumped a bit as the snow had picked up and it stung and nipped at his exposed flesh. He was about to begin talking when the brute to his left grabbed his attention and tipped his horn towards the edge of the village. He could barely make it out but he could see the dark shapes moving against the snow.
He knew the drill and lunged forward into a heavy canter towards the intruders. He could easily see that the small group of three had been spotted by the scout party as their dark shapes disbanded back behind the hill of snow, back towards the way they came. Though his attention was grasped by the dark shape that stayed, heading closer towards the village, He signaled to the others to its position. Pointing towards the shape standing even closer the the town now. He sped up his heavy, lunging canter into a full heavy gallop. Planning to end this intruder where they stood. His breath growing heavy and more angry with each stride.

Alvane only smirked.
“No, I don’t. But those Raiders are going to catch up to the group sooner rather than later and it isn’t going to be a happy ending.”
"What?" the valkyrie shot back, blood rushing as the silent threat from behind loomed ever more menacingly over her head. "A team of trained scouts?!"
I'm going to buy you guys some time!"
"This is madness!"
Alvane swung her sword once, moving right on to her almost suicidal plan of action-- scratch that. It was absolutely suicidal.
Alyshia stomped again as the anxiety began to take over. "You think you could slow them down, for even a moment--"
The other mare's face suddenly grew serious-- an expression completely unlike her, even to someone like Aly who had scarcely spoken with her at all-- and the younger horse found her tongue frozen. The reality of the situation began to sink in. They were a scouting party, these... these stallions were armed, knew these desolate lands like the unders of their own hooves...
“Make sure everyone gets home, Make sure Hira knows what they are dealing with.”
Her father's scowl flashed in her memories, his eyes stern but nervous, Please be careful, please listen to the scouts, the unsaid yet heavy please come home, little Ales tackling her in a hug before she left, her brother's face glowing as he demanded that she told him every exciting thing she had seen and done upon her return--
And she was already galloping after the others. Glancing around wildly for any sight of Addeva, hoping that she had done the same...
But as Alyshia sped after the patrol, hooves making dull thuds in the blanketed land, mane flying; something else, something said only moments before, came to mind.
That's what you have us for.
She thought of the things Hira said to her valkyries, about her valkyries. Why they existed. What they were meant to prove.
The mare skidded to a halt, whipped her head around to see Alvane descending the sharp slope...
And turned.
Rearing once to shake off whatever remaining cowardice lingered in her veins, Alyshia charged after the blue haired disaster of a horse. She had no armor, no weapons; only her sheer resolve and her apparent suspectibility to the stupidest of plans.
"Your friends," the valkyrie breathed forcefully, although not without a hint of irritation, "can report to Hira themselves!"
Forgive me, Father.

Addeva War Forged | Valkyrie
Her small hooves crunched in the thick snow, not even paying much attention to the bickering happening behind her now that their goal was in sight. The wind howled in her ears, she kept her head low as determination coursed through her. Visibility was low, but it was hard to mistake Darius suddenly turning around and shouting. Bloody Flanks. Addeva froze for half a second, her heart thundering in her chest. The dark shapes were unmistakable: 3 huge forms moving towards them in a steady pace. Oh how she wished she had a damn weapon! "GO!" Aly's voice pierced through the screaming blizzard, snapping Addeva out of her thoughts. The zonkey turned and leaped after her sister as fast as her short legs could carry her with the snow weighing her down. They reached the others, most looking like they were turning to run with Darius. Except the one horse she wasn't surprised to see swishing her sword about, Alvane. "I'm going to buy you guys some time" For a childish, annoying-as-hell horse, her stupid plan to face the Bloody Flanks head on was brave. In her minds eye, Addeva thought back to the hours and hours she put towards sparring with her fellow Valkyries, with Alyshia, with Kathra. Without a word, Addeva made a single step to follow the blue haired mare before she saw Alyshia run after her. Isn't this what Valkyries are supposed to do? Defend the land Kaia blessed them with. Protect those that needed it. Fight. They were warriors of Hira! With adrenaline coursing through her, Addeva ran after the two of them. "Aly! Wait up!" She shouted above the wind before finally lounging through the tracks the two mares made, stopping in the middle of them. "Before you say anything-" Addeva huffed a few times, the smoke from her breath causing huge clouds to form. "-I'm not going anywhere." She finished, her words pointed to both of them, her blue eyes reflecting just how determined the young hybrid was. She turned towards the figures, who were much closer now. She had no weapon, no armor, no years and years of experience like some had, but she'll be damned if she ran away without attempting to hold them off while the others brought word to Hira. ...Dad is going to kill her.

Bloody Flanks Raider NPC #3 common horse stallion seal bay thoroughbred wearing black bear pelt, carrying a short sword
Not a word had been exchanged between them, but they knew what to do.
For days they’d come up here and stand guard, knowing that the recent sighting of Vidar & Astrid in Skeldr Town would probably lead to an examination by Hira’s finest accomplices. He had started to slacken his focus on patrol, doubting that the herd would come at all, until tonight the other two guards shifted and pointed to the sorry group making their way down the hill.
His two companions were solid warriors, but he was thinner-boned with the gift of speed. While the other two approached the single member of the group who dared step forward, he galloped a wide berth around the pairing toward the group scrambling back up the hill.
“Blessed Earth Mother, protect our land” he whispered under his breath. In a few strides he was churning up the hill, the gap between him and the intruders growing closer.
Two more broke off from the group to join the blue-haired infidel, but he ignored them, brushing past them in a dark flurry of snow. His partners would slit their throats in no time. That left five dark figures galloping in the snow back to the mountains. Five cowards who trespassed on their land, and believed they could get away with it.

Had Alvane completely lost her mind?!
Even the Vallkyries were fleeing and this arrogant blue-haired mare was going to take on three Raiders herself? “Alvane! Get out!” she cried, turning on her heel after Clarke back up the hill.
She knew it. She knew this was a mistake, that they should have turned around when they first saw the lights. Nope, she would never be coming back up in this territory again, no matter how desperate the scouting mission.
She wanted to quip “I told you so” to everyone, but it seemed wildly inappropriate at this time.
Now the Valkyries broke away and back to where Alvane stood. Kids trying to be heroes, Fox felt the group was losing control of themselves in the adrenaline of the moment. Even the little zonkey was about to go fight thick Bloody Flank guards, as if she had any chance of winning that battle.
Suddenly in the earth, there was one more set of hoofbeats than there should be….
She glanced behind her. A dark figure was coming after them, taking massive strides and covering a scary amount of ground in only a few seconds. He had on a thick dark pelt, and a sharp weapon shimmered in the moonlight at his side. Fox’s stomach dropped.
“There’s one here!” she screamed. “Behind us!”
She glanced over at Clarke. Mules were known for their sure-footedness and stamina in stressful conditions, and Clarke was handling herself well. But Fox knew that wouldn’t last forever. Should she try to protect the mule, or was this an everyone-for-themselves scenario?

Bloody Flanks Raider:
Unicorn | Clydesdale x Belgian Warmblood | Grey - Holding longsword.
Despite the heavy snowfall, the unicorn could just make out the group scattering; watching as most of them turned tail and took flight, plowing through the snow to run back home to their beloved War-Lord as fast as they could. Typical…
Side eyeing one of his brothers in arms as they galloped almost in tandem, he raised a brow in question as to what he had planned, and felt satisfaction hum throughout his veins when the bay broke away from them, pursuing the ones that ran.
Chuffing the cold air with relish, the grey stallion bared down upon the three that had chosen to stay, withdrawing his blade from it’s scabbard whilst still in motion when he was but a few metres from the party.
Haunches sinking underneath him as he skid to a halt in front of them, he instinctively arched his neck and curled his jaw protectively over his throat; green eyes sweeping over his opponents, seeking weaknesses to exploit.
Bringing up his weapon to hover directly in front of him, he pointed it at the mares and beckoned a challenger to step forward, waiting patiently to draw blood.

Clarke | War Forged | Scout:
You don't know what you've got until you've lost it all, might I suggest you find a softer place to fall.
Clarke hardly dared to take her eyes off the ground as she sprinted, lurching over the uneven ground and frantically jumping over treacherous patches of what looked to be ice; all too aware that a fall now could cost her dearly, easily claiming her life within this godforsaken land, and someone still needed to report back to Hira… though if none of them made it back, perhaps that would be enough of a hint to suggest all was not well within the supposed barren lands.
“… behind us!”
It was not until Fox called out that she risked glancing behind, and her stomach dropped, breath hitching in one’s throat. Both the sabino mare and Bloody Flank raider were rapidly gaining ground upon the mule, and she found the prospect of being overtaken alone to be quite frankly, terrifying, for it was the one thing she was supposed to be good at, running away.
Desperately she sought for something to use to her advantage, gaze falling upon the boulders that jutted from the mountainside. Was it worth trying to climb? Would she be fast enough? Only one way to find out now...
Veering off-course, she began to scale the rocks, disturbing the powdered snow that had settled upon them with each step. Teasing the area using her telekinesis with an urgent fervour, she managed to loose a jagged edged stone and clutched it close to her breast.
As her breath was beginning to feel laboured, nostrils flaring heavily and lungs burning, she stopped; perching on a narrow outcrop like a mountain goat and looked down, gaze blazing as she prepared for the worst. Word Count: 273 | Post: #7[?]

"Aly! Wait up!"
Addeva?! Oh, no.
She hadn't thought about Addeva following her back here. Alyshia turned around, trying to think of something to say to the excitable zonkey, but--
"Before you say anything--" her sister huffed "--I'm not going anywhere."
The gypsy mix stiffened with panic, wanting to scold her, to send her back running. It was enough that she was here, and she didn't want Addeva getting hurt, and Father didn't need two of his daughters throwing themselves into harm's way--
But the zonkey was here for the same reason she was. Hira trusted them both to get the job done, to look out for these bickering scouts. To protect them if need be. She couldn't turn Addy away, because they both fought for and believed in the same thing.
Aside from that, Addeva meant what she said. She wasn't going anywhere, and Aly was just going to have to make-do.
She settled for a brief inhale of breath, a quick nod, and turned again to face the fast-approaching Bloody Flanks. One, to her dismay, had run ahead to try and cut the others off. The Valkyrie could only hope that the remaining five scouts could handle one outlaw with a sword as his remaining friends finally closed the distance between themselves and the three brave but foolish mares.
They were both large and intimidating--
We can handle that. Probably.
--They were both unicorns--
Natural weapons. Fantastic. We better do this carefully--
--And one of them had a goddamned sword.
Well, f*@#.
One stallion skidded to a halt, arching his neck and wielding his sword out in front of him as he issued a challenge. With no other options, Alyshia could only accept. The mare reared and snorted, ears flattened and eyes flashing as she circled the stallion in a half-arc and attempted to tackle him from the side.

Iden Stallion | War-Forged | Scout
-- The commotion of horses yelling burned in the stallions ears; from behind him, he heard shouts to the blue-haired mare who had charged the opposition with all but her short-sword, followed by cries to the young Valkyries who followed her... Iden skidded to a halt on the slippery wet snow in his attempt to retreat and quickly turned his head to assess the situation.
He was un-armed, with three Bloody Flanks heading their way...half of the group ahead of him, and half behind. He twisted again to see Clarke had reached a relative vantage point from atop a craggy outcrop, not too far from where he was standing...Retreat was the only sensible option, but even unarmed he knew that sometimes a fight could sway in one's favour. Realistically he knew that the best chance they had of fighting off the Bloody Flank's, was in numbers. With three horses already heading up the fight with the two Flank's head on, Iden took a heavy breath in, and focused his attention on the Seal Bay horse barrelling past the mares, heading full pelt towards the rest of the group. With any luck, the stallion prayed his lithe, slim opposition was at least a similar match for his equally slim-line body type; he didn't for one moment fancy his chances with the heavier draft horses.
Iden knew full well this wasn't going to be an easy battle, but this was clearly going to be one either way.

Bloody Flanks Raider:
Unicorn | Clydesdale x Belgian Warmblood | Grey - Holding longsword.
Eyes immediately drawn to the sudden movement, the stallion watched unperturbed as the spotted mare reared up as an answer to his invitation, in what he could only guess was an attempt to look intimidating… and not to mention expending a blatant waste of energy for no purpose other than show.
Muscles already engaged and tensed to move off, the unicorn resisted the urge to dodge as soon as she started her charge, giving the valkyrie the chance to catch him instead; aiming to bolster her confidence, but lessening the blow by wheeling around at the same time, so that her teeth merely glanced off his hip and the momentum ended up carrying her safely past him.
They didn’t have time to toy with the stragglers, for the entire War-Forged congregation that had trespassed upon the land needed to be dealt with quickly, to prevent whatever knowledge had been gathered about the encampment from leaving the confides of the Bloody Flanks territory. The grey lunged after Alyshia before she had the chance to completely turn around and try to assault him again; striking out nimbly with his sword, the telekinesis throwing it forward and out in a similar manner to that of an arrow, aiming to pierce the soft flesh of her throat, and cause the mare to bleed out like a stuck pig.

Post 6 | Word count: 366 +1AP The mare’s eyes grew wide as she heard hoof-steps behind her. Thinking it to be another Bloody Flank, the mare unsheathed her and thrusted it in an upward motion only to see Alyshia leaping down the hill after her. Alvane averted her sword, other wise it would have went through her chest.
“What the HELL do you think YOU’RE doing!” The mare squawked “I could have killed you!” The mare’s legs became antsy as she could hear the heavy thundering thuds from behind her. Her blood ran slightly cold, now realising she was putting the Valk in danger and sure enough he sister then jumped down after her. The mare rolled her eyes “Before your say anything-” And annoyed expression rolled over the mare's face. “- I’m not going anywhere” “Like hell you are, go! Now, the both of you” Alvane spoke out “I’m not going to be responsible for killing two for Hira’s Valkyries in training”
And sure enough on perfect timing the two stallion met their gaze now standing only so much as 7 feet away. She watched as the grey lifted his long sword in a challenging motion and before she could do anything Aly began circling him. Alvane’s eyes shifted to the Red Stallion as he began moving forward towards Addeva. He was blocking the way back towards the group and the only possible way to run now was through the town of dark lit structures. The mare watched as the Raider leaped towards the zonkey, Alvane quickly reacted, leaping into the stallion’s side, sword swinging. She managed to push him to the side, scoring a slice into his thick neck and watching him fall to his side, an audible “Umf” escaping his mouth. Droplets of blood staining the glowing white snow. “Addeva! Move now” Signaling to run. The mare averted her attention to the grey who Aly attempted to attack, Watching in horror as the Grey threw his sword at her “ALY MOVE!” The blue haired mare yelped. Alvane leaped into a gallop at the grey, charging at him with her sword held in a chest height. "HEY, Pick on someone your own size !"

The red stallion trotted along side his grey coated comrade as they met the presence of the three mares that decided to stick around “imbeciles”. He watched as his herd mate unsheathed his sword and pointed it towards the mares, half expecting the blue haired mare to lunge forward first but in fact it was the dark coated, spotted mare who stupidly tried to knock the heavy stallion over. He then stepped forward, towards the small zonkey with a sinister grin, and lowering his head. The stallion leaped at the small mare only to be met with the blue haired mare lunging at him, forcing herself into him and pushing him back and falling to his side to the icy cold snow. There was a second of realization as he tried to shake himself outta the dazed state, when he felt a burning sensation of pain and a warm liquid poured down his neck. It wasn't fatal but it did piss him off more and so he began struggling to get back to his feet. The icy cold snow working its way into the fresh wound and a small painful growl left his mouth. He watched as the attacking mare now went for his comrade and she yelled something along the lines of "pick on someone your own size" The stallion again managed to reach his feet, a little shaken but the adrenaline had begun to kick in and the pain began to grow astray.

"No fine work can be done without concentration and self-sacrifice and toil and doubt." - Max Beerbohm
Darius watched as the mission crumbled before his eyes.
When he'd said run, he'd expected the group to follow. Even three Bloody Flanks was too many for their group to take, at least here where they were on unfamiliar ground and burdened with younger members to watch out for. Of course, he hadn't counted on the Valkyries being so eager for a fight. He stopped, snow flying around him, and looked around for his group. Clarke had found the high ground, and he figured she could care for herself, at least for the time being. Fox... it took a moment for him to find her. A dark shape was bearing down on her, a shape that was much larger than she was.
His next instinct was to look for the younger members of the group. To his horror, Addeva and Alyshia were both directly in the line of the attacking guards, and Alvane was actually running towards them. "What are you doing?" he shouted, running in their direction. The wind picked up his voice and carried it away in a sudden angry gust. As if on cue, the weather itself was now conspiring against them. The wind blew stronger, whipping the snow in every direction and hiding all the horses so little more than shapes could be seen. It howled down the slope of the hill, and Darius echoed its sound, shouting along with it as he charged towards the young horses. He caught up with the Valkyries quickly, reaching Addeva just as Alyshia took off after Alvane. "Go!" He shouted over the wind, ears flat against his skull. "Get out of here! I'll get Alvane." Kaia willing, he would not loose anyone on this godsforsaken mission.
He reached Alyshia quickly, his longer legs giving him an advantage in the snow, and he shouted the same command at her. Not waiting to see if she obeyed, he charged towards Alvane. She could probably handle herself, but he was not going to leave anyone behind. Not if he could help it.
His tasseled cloak whipping behind him in the wind, he caught up to Alvane. "Go back with the Valkyries! I can handle this!" It was his mistake, and he should be the one to pick up the pieces of this disaster. He charged ahead, wings pressed tight against his sides and eyes narrowed against the snow. This disaster was his fault, but he wasn't going to let anyone else suffer for it.

Bloody Flanks Raider NPC #3 common horse stallion seal bay thoroughbred wearing black bear pelt, carrying a short sword
The mule of the group scaled a wall right before his eyes. Fool. But he didn’t have the agility to go after her, so he ignored her.
A dark figure stepped out while the rest ran away. A chestnut stallion with flaxen hair. Did he want to be a hero? The stallion laughed to himself. None of them looked like warriors, but he expected no true threat from Hira’s subjects.
He reached for his sword and felt an empty strap. Surprised, he skidded to a stop, icy rocks flying under his feet. Had it fallen off? “FUCK!” he yelled. He looked back, but couldn't see it. It must have slipped off, like he was a goddamn colt who couldn't keep track of his belongings.
It was a futile fight without a weapon and he had no opportunity to run back and get it like a fool. He had swordsmanship skills but not agility in hoof combat. He cursed his mentors for not preparing him for this. Could he bluff? And get knocked on his ass, probably.
Whatever. He’d pretend he still had the upper hand.
“Get out,” he hissed at the stallion facing him. “Get OUT.”
He stomped a foot and bared his teeth. “Blood will be shed next time, you damn cowards."

Damn it! Damn it all, he'd seen right through her. The stallion whirled just as she neared him, her teeth barely catching him and her hooves missing completely.
By the time she'd made contact with the ground again, he was already planning a counter-attack. The mare had scarcely turned to face him, looking up just in time to see the sword being hurled right at her.
She dodged, but she wasn't fast enough. Blinding pain flashed through her body as the sword sliced past her, leaving the side of her neck feeling hot and wet in the harsh winter wind.
Alyshia gasped and staggered where she stood, eyes darting wildly as she tried to brace for another attack, to make sense of the agony that had seized her in that moment. She couldn't get a good look at the wound, could not say for sure how bad it was or if she had any more time to waste, if she would remain standing for much longer.
Stop it... her thoughts groaned. No more... freezing... Act...
Act...
Addeva, where was Addeva--
ACT!
She could faintly hear Darius shouting at them-- Darius? Hadn't he been running with the others?-- and Alvane yelling Addeva's name as she fell the stallion targeting her.
Clinging onto the voice, Alyshia strained past her shock, her pain and panic, until she found the blue-haired mare now wielding her own sword against the bastard who'd dared try to kill her.
Her vision steadied. The noises around her rang louder and clearer again. And her enemy was distracted.
"ALY MOVE!"
If there was any time to take action, it was now.
The Valkyrie stomped her feet and charged at the gray unicorn again, this time aiming to throw him off balance; maybe give him a few bruises to remember her by if she was lucky. But if she could take him off-guard for just long enough, then maybe Alvane could end this quickly. They needed to get out of here, and fast. They needed to get home.
They needed to warn Hira and everyone in Onea that the Bloody Flanks were alive and well.

Iden Stallion | War-Forged | Scout - The flaxen chestnut stallion stood his ground as his bright green eyes watched the Bloody Flank approach him, slewing to an abrupt halt before him. Iden snorted and glared at the enemy before the stallion spoke... ''GET OUT!'' came the voice, spitting and hissing the words - Iden didn't really need another warning, he wasn't about to put anymore risk into the situation than needed be. The Bloody Flank member stamped through the snow and continued to yell as the Iden gave one last look back, before turning and tailing back towards Clarke and the rest of the retreating horses.
As he started back towards the trail the party had originally come from, Iden couldn't help but wonder what this meant now for their herd... Now they had hard evidence that the Flanks had been thriving here to some extent, and now that the Flanks themselves knew they were being scouted, surely this heightened a lot of tension... Iden took one last glance behind him before he caught up with the others in front of him; a couple of the mares still lagged behind, dealing swift final blows to some of the Flanks, while the Seal Bay stallion who had threatened him, still stood, glaring back at Iden.
The stallion shuddered in the cold, before finally turning back, reaching his comrades.

The Flaxen Liver Chestnut mare lunged at the grey Bloody Flank but he had began moving when she did. Just slightly outta the way, narrowly missing his side. Alvane could see Addeva disappear in the snow behind her as well as Alyshia not long after her. The two Hunking Bloody Flanks now standing a little distance in front of her. Only her heavy breathing breaking the silence. Darius unexpectedly joined the blue haired mares side, breaking her out of her warrior's gaze.
"Go back with the Valkyries! I can handle this!" The Pegasus exclaimed and within seconds charged forward. The mare quickly grabbed his cloak. Hoping to stop him in his tracks. “Darius, look” Alvane now pointing at the two Unicorns. They had stopped, they weren’t attacking them, instead just standing there with an ominous glare. Alvane pinned her ears back but took at as a “Get the hell out, before we slit your throat” She didn’t give it a second thought and opened her mouth again.
“Come on, let's go before they change their minds” Now pulling on Darius’ cloak more. She herself had began stepping backwards.
This felt unfinished for me and I needed to write something, coz it was annoying me.
