Valerius | Chevalier
Valerius hated this, but there was no choice. The eggs were gathered and Valerius zoned out, drowning out the voices of the mares around him. They didn’t like this, but neither did he, he didn’t need to hear their complaints as long as they complied. All he did was keep his eyes on the mother dragon, making sure she didn’t stir.
And then a sound broke him out of his concentration. An egg was hatching. Valerius was about to rush forward and try to hush the hatchling before it roused the mother, but then Aralynne stepped forward. The mare wrapped the newborn in her wings and pulled it close, letting it climb onto her back. Valerius smiled. He knew there was no better place for that hatchling than with Aralynne, other than with it’s mother of course.
All but two of the eggs were collected and Valerius lifted the two he was taking, laying them on the ground next to him. Then his brow furrowed in concentration. Suddenly, a rock shifted up out of the ground, smooth and the same shape and size as the eggs. Valerius took a breath and shut his eyes and more of these eggs popped out of the ground. When he was finished and there were eight laying in front of him, the stallion panted. He shook his head and began moving the imposter eggs into the mother’s claws where the previous eggs had been.
No, he didn’t think this could fool her. At least not for long. But something had to be better than nothing. Valerius gingerly lifted his two eggs and stepped forward. “Alright, let’s head back to the surface. Quickly,” he said. Then the stallion and the rest of the group headed for the tunnel, ready to make their way back to Valore.
