Valerius | Chevalier
Quince was over the log before giving him an answer. Valerius could only assume that meant he should get the group over and follow. But this wasn't going to be easy. As the other chevaliers gathered near him, Valerius widened his stance and concentrated. The earth shifted beneath them, mud splashing up around them. C'mon... just a little more. The stallion shut his eyes, brow furrowed with concentration. His stomach leapt as they were lifted from the ground, the mud moving beneath them like a wave on the ocean. It poured over the log, splashing down on the other side. He struggled, making sure his companions were held upright by the shifting muck, not to be pulled beneath the wave.
When they were on more solid footing, Valerius released his hold on the mud and suddenly felt a wave of nausea. The vertigo caused him to stumble up to a tree. "Keep going! I'll catch up!" he said, panting as he tried to recover. He knew he would soon, the effort to move such a large amount of the aqueous substance had just been more than he was expecting. As he caught his breath, something popped up in the corner of his vision. The orb fluttered through the trees. A wisp? His parents had told him stories about them, like any foal raised in Aodh, but he'd never seen one. Of course, he hadn't ever spent a lot of time in the swamp.
Feeling better, he picked up a run to catch up with his companions, but kept noticing the flickers of light dancing about. As he drew deeper into the swamp, they became more numerous. Groups of them were floating around. When he caught sight of his companions in the distance, he watched as a whole group of the wisps disappeared before his very eyes. The stallion's heart dropped and he skidded to a halt. What...? How?! If these were the spirits of the ancient kirins, why were they disappearing? What was happening? Filled with a gnawing dread, Valerius quickly picked up the pace. Hoping to reach the rest of the group in order to report what he had seen. Yes capturing vagabonds was important. But they were a dime a dozen. The wisps and their disappearing could potentially be far more important.

Beyond was off almost the moment the ground moved beneath her, the mud propelled her faster than she could hope to run normally, everything around her became a blur as she whisked through the swamp. Her eyes steady on the trail of the boneheaded vagabond, her hooves obliterated the trail, leaving her own mud strewn path of churned ground.
She noticed as Theseus slowed a little, but what did she care what he did? If he chose to loose her than so be it, Beyond would not rest until she had that wretch firmly in her grips. As she hurtled at an incredible speed she barely missed a clump of trees, she shivered slightly at the thought of her shoulder which now screamed in pain, which she stubbornly ignored. Suddenly ahead she saw the blue of quinces wings among the trees, he seemed to be going a little slow, was there something she was missing while traveling at this speed? She didn't slow as she dodged around him, but just as she swerved a bright light seemed to drift from somewhere to just above her nose, blinding her momentarily before it vanished. She staggered away from a tree before resuming her chase with an expression of puzzlement. What in Hireath was that? As she ran something dawned in the back of her mind, that must have been a wisp… Beyond had only recently heard of the ghostly swamp lights and knew nothing of them but their name, growing up with an ex vagabond mother she had not heard the traditional foals tales of Aohd. She snapped her mind back to the task at hand, allowing her mind to wander would undoubtedly end badly, or in a tree as was most likely around here.
She pushed harder, her muscles straining and sweat streaking her once shiny flanks, she was running out of breath, but adrenalin still rushed through her system. Surprisingly the marshy ground seemed to swallow the sound of her thundering hooves and the soft swish of trees was disguised by the eerie sound of a whispering wind in the roof of the trees. Then she saw the wretch. Even if she runs now I will have her by the neck in a few seconds beyond thought as she soared over a thorny, leafless shrubbery of some sort. Her mind blanked and everything seemed to slow in anticipation for her move. She leapt at the mare suddenly from within a cloud of mist which sat heavily over a series of marshy pools, being the same colour as the mist she was near invisible until her leap. She felt the blood rush through her muscles as they strained to be arborne, her hooves flew out in front of her in order to tear flesh and maybe even Shatter bone as she reached her head forward to grasp an antler, if she landed as intended and managed to catch her prey with either hoof or tooth she would not fall, but knock her prey to the marshy ground, hopefully in a pool of blood.

Alyx | Aodh Chevalier.
Once her feet were on the ground again, Alyx was after the fleeing Vagabond like a bat out of hell as she drove her legs to push her farther in the swamp. Knowing that the Vagabond must have thought that she had gotten away, the paint mare was sure that they would be hot on her heels in no time at all.Simple thoughts like that would lead to the capture of the mare with the decorative headpiece, her lips twisted down in disgust as she thought of the mare wearing a deceased creature's skull upon her head. Vagabonds were always so strange; maybe despicable would be a better word to use.
Feeling her ears perk up in thought, she watched as the little glowing orbs dance around them as they continued their chase and without another thought, she felt her speed slow as she studied the small orbs. The wisps? "Oh, dear," the words fell from her lips as she shook her head side to side. Oh, what was more important right now? Was it the fleeing Vagabond whose silhouette she could faintly make out in the distance or was the fact that the wisps seemed to be dying out ever so slowly? The souls of the deceased Kirin, the very species that their Lord Ignacio was, and she felt her heart twist and her stomach churn as she reminded herself of the task at hand. Shaking her head repeatedly side to side, she tried to block out the thoughts of the Kirin souls, but it ached in the back of her mind as she picked up her pace in attempts to gain back all of the ground she had lost within the split second she paused the study the disappearing orbs.

The dancing orb before her started to fade, its light flickering before bursting back up in a bright blue shine. It was trying to hold on, but Sa'ida feared it would be futile. Her ears shifted back at the sound of hooves in the mud behind her, turning back to look just as a grey form lept at her. Shock held her in place until the last minute, as she threw herself out of the way of the flying mare, twisting her head out of the way just in time. She felt the antlers of her mask brush into the flesh of her attacker, promptly getting knocked from her head. The smooth skull bounced along the muddy ground, sliding to a stop several feet away. A snarl formed on Sa'ida's lips as she whipped her head around to the mare who had attacked her. A long scar ran down her forehead- all that was left of the horn she once had upon her face.
"Are you stupid??" She screamed, her ears flattening as she snapped crooked teeth in anger. "You're going to scare the wisp away!" Her bicolored eyes quickly searched the ground, finding the dancing soul still at her hooves, though its flame barely visible. With a small step forward, the mare put her hoof in front of it, almost like a mother protecting a child. She could feel the coolness of its light against the back of her hock.
"If you claim to be such a devout Aodian, you would care more for the well being of these wisps." She growled, her tail twitching behind her in anger. She was no longer wanting to escape, but she was ready to fight for the wisp held guard behind her hoof.

The mare moved at the last moment, loosing her antlered mask in the process. Beyond hardly noticed the jab of pronged antler to her chest as she landed and fought for a moment to stay upright, her lips curling in a snarl of frustration. She paused for a moment, her eyes settling on the scar across the wretches forehead, so you did have a horn, she thought with a dark smile. As she prepared to give chase again she was surprised as the mare turned to face her, fury filled eyes glowering at Beyond as she screamed “are you stupid??” “You're going to scare the wisp away!”. For a moment Beyond was taken aback as he wretch stood protectively over a flickering light that danced like a flame, but her next words struck a chord "If you claim to be such a devout Aodian, you would care more for the well being of these wisps." Beyonds eyes flashed with unbridled hatred as she struck out, careful not to touch the flame-like light, another one of which had suddenly appeared beside her, flickering desperately like a fire with no air. one hoof tearing like a harpoon into the little wretchs chest, the other landing with a crunch on the antlered skull, she didn't pause to check if the skull had shattered as she screamed “I AM AOHDIAN!!”, continuing in a hiss she snarled under her breath “just because I was not raised the same does not make me any less!”. She knew this horse had no idea about who she was, or why she had no idea what this dancing light meant, but it still hurt to feel like you would never be accepted… And Beyond would have vengeance for every grievance caused.

Alyx | Aodh Chevalier.
Letting her hooves skid her to a stop, she felt her eyebrows raise up in wonder as she watched the mare lose her decorative headpiece due to the attack Beyond had directed towards her. She felt her ears flick forward as her attention was drawn once again to the small glowing orbs that seemed to be dying out, and she couldn't help but feel her heart twist in pain once again to the fact that the souls of the Kirin seemed to be dying out. Beyond's loud screaming made her ears flick back against her neck as she watched as another flickering flame seemed to die out and disappear into thin air, and a soft gasp left her lips as she mentally pleaded for the small wisps to stop disappearing.
Turning her attention back towards the Vagabond mare, for an every so split second, Alyx felt her lips turn down in disgust and her soul reach out to the mare when she noticed she was a unicorn who just happened to be missing her horn. That had to hurt. The thought rushed through her head as she shook her head side to side. This was the enemy, a Vagabond, she tried to enforce the hatred back into her being but with the flames flickering around her she could only watch as the wisps died out around her. This Vagabond should consider herself lucky, the fact that the wisps were flickering out around her was enough to turn her attention away from the mare, "Poor things."

Quince, Post 6 Word Count: 427
An eruption of anger caught his attention. The Vagabond had clearly frustrated Beyond, which was, to say the least, disappointing. He had not anticipated that they could be swayed so easily. Ushering himself in their direction, he parted his tail feathers: a cautious, challenging stance to those who may oppose him (in this case, Sa'ida). It was not until now that he had noticed more than half of his group was missing. Had they been delayed, or worse? Surely they had not abandoned their original goal. However, there was no time to search for them. The king had sent them on a specific mission, and it was to determine the presence of enemies in their territory. And sure enough, they were there. A vagabond stood before them, toying with their minds and making fun of their lineage. She was hardly an excuse for a horse. Equine like these deserved less than life. She had said something about wisps -- oh yes, he did see it now. A small one was flickering behind her hoof... and then it wasn't. It was gone, just like a light gone out. His brows furrowed. These wisps were said to be the souls of the ancients -- kirins who dwelled still in Eithne. The Aodhian herd had lived her for centuries. Why now would they disappear? It seemed more likely to him that the cause of their disappearance could be traced directly to the Vagabonds. He disliked Sa'ida's vanity now more than ever. There was nothing to do now but wait for the short moment to conclude -- Beyond had taken a swing at her, and it was clear to him now that this Vagabond possessed more endurance than previously let on. They could not complete the capture unless she was dead, and this looked very unlikely. Aodhians were not meant to battle hoof-deep in mud. Still though, it did bother him. He did not ignore the wisps. They were certainly disappearing, and this was perhaps just as worrisome as the task at hand. However, he did not like to leave his work unfinished. The Vagabond needed to be dealt with. Whether she escaped or not was debatable, but there was no way he'd simply let her frolic away as they all searched for the source of the wisps. It could wait another day, no matter how vital it was. The herd needed to know of their encounter with Sa'ida. It was effecting the entirety of Aodh as they spoke, and he would do nothing less than make it known.

The young mare jumped back just in time before the other's hoof nearly collided with her chest. Her strike clipped her coat, but she was able to dodge most of the blow. Her eyes narrowed and tongue flicked against her lips, like a snake examining her prey. Her movement had caused her hoof to run through the dying wisp that she had been trying to protect, its cold light toughing her skin before dwindling away. She saw many others around her vanishing. Her long tail flicked eagerly behind her; she didnt have time for this bullshit. "I never said you werent, doll." She replied with a tut of her tongue and a roll of her sharp eyes. She ignored the fact that the mare was basically standing on her skull, her gaze flickering to the Pegasus stallion who had joined them, whom she assumed was the groups leader. He had a soft champagne coat with dark hair braided neatly against his neck. Her eyes lingered on his bright wings and the feathers he bore across the bridge of his nose. She had always had.. a thing for pegasai. Oh, how she envied their ability to soar through the sky and watch everything from above.
She caught his gaze and held eye contact without fail; her head lowering and ears pressing forward with a slippery grin playing across her features. "Tick tock." The witch sang softly, pulling her skull from the grasps of the other mare without batting an eye. She placed it back on her head where it belonged, her narrowed eyes growing dark from the shadow of the bone. She slipped up beside the pegasus, flicking her the tip of her soft tail against his legs as she circled him slowly. "The souls of your lord's people are dying, Mr. Chevalier." The mare taunted, her brow raising as she slid up beside him and tipped her head to the side, the antler on her head brushing his shoulder. "And you're chasing a silly little vagabond~ Ignacio would not be pleased about your priorities."
Biting her tongue between her teeth, the mare giggled and bounced to the side, her head flinging up with a wild glint. "Tick tock, Mr. Chevalier, the clock is always running! If its a fight you want, im happy to oblige, but i will stop at nothing to find my wisps!" Her voice rose into a shout, her words echoing off the dense trees around them into the silence of the swamp. Her teeth bared together as she dipped her head and planted her hooves into the thick marshy ground.
Your move, Mr. Chevalier.

Beyond reigned herself in, her emotions were getting the better of her, which was not professional or useful in a fight. Maybe it had not been wise to accept this assignment in her current state, she could see the disappointment in Quinces expression, and she wished she could explain, but she would doom herself if she did. Instead she bitterly took a step back, away from temptation, the vagabond snatching her now mud spattered skull away as she did so, Beyond let it go, what did it matter to her? Soon she would have the whole head, why would you want a skull when you can have the whole thing? Flesh and all? Sad there wasn't a nice horn there, she could have turned it into a dagger. She listened attentively, but the vagabond wretches words only confused her, the souls of your lords people? These lights must be important in some way to Aohdians, all she knew was that they inhabited this place and nowhere else, and what did that matter? She could only assume they were escaping swamp gases or some sort of natural anomalies caused by the swamp. Lord, guide me please! She cried in her head I don't understand and my curse grows worse every moment! Bitterly she sneered at the wretch, the lord would hear her, at least I know this creature is dirt next to me, oh how she wanted to tear it limb from limb and spill its guts for her lords delight and drag its head back to her king. She glanced at Quince, baring her teeth a little, but if these lights were something special then this little Pegasus would have to deal with it. She turned her gaze to the vagabond dirt again and smiled a horrible grin, like someone about to eat out your beating heart would. She would stay back, for now.
