Ruby | Champion
Normally, flying was calming and peaceful, however with the blood staining her fur and smoke clogging her nose and filling her lungs, Ruby was far from calm. Below, on the field, the others were still fighting, and she figured she'd waste no more time swooping back in. While she really didn't want to put herself in real actual danger, she also didn't want to give the others reason to mock her later. Her pride was damaged enough already.
As she dove once again, she saw Cael freeing a chevalier, and angled down to land by them. Folding her wings promptly, Ruby nodded towards Cael then looked towards Chai. "Wanna lend a hoof? Give Cael a second to catch her breath while we go knock some skulls in?" she gave her usual cocky smirk and the pair take off, galloping full tilt at the nearest kirin.
Ruby wondered if she may have made a mistake when the kirin turned around, and she saw a look of wicked joy as the kirin swung not one, but two maces as she faced down the pair. The lavender scaled kirin charged them as well, forcing Ruby and Chai to separate. Ruby figured they could probably used the divided attention to at least get a brief hoof up on the kirin. Almost like when her and Sapphire would race around Iscah's legs when they were younger to get something they wanted- usually sweets of some kind- out of Iscah's teke.
With that thought- childish it may be- in mind, Ruby watch as the kirin swung the maces with no rhyme or rhythm, lunging first towards Chai, then towards Ruby. Dodging a blow just by the tip of a feather, Ruby grit her teeth. She wished like hell that her supposed prowess had actually been true, then she'd actually know how to attack. Instead, all she could really do was duck under another swing of a mace while Chai was drawing the kirin's attention for the second, and lunged for the kirins face. There wasn't much she could really do, the kirin was blessed with natural armor in the form of her scales, but her ears weren't so protected.
Truly a cheap shot, but a distraction was a distraction. Ruby bit down on the kirins ear as hard as she could, tasting blood immediately pouring into her mouth. What she didn't expect though, was for the kirin to jerk back so quickly, nor did she expect her teeth to bite clean through the ear, or the mace to come swinging again so quickly.
Ridding the kirin of an ear was both disgusting and useless to her, but it gave Chai the needed distraction to rip one of the maces away, and flee from the lunatic kirin, which Ruby followed suit. Sides heaving, she realized the mace's spikes happened to pierce her flesh, and once again, she had another wound bleeding slowly, but freely.
Ruby was beginning to tire, and didn't know how much more she had in her.

Aidan | Chevalier (squire)
Breath, breath. As long as he could manage his breathing he would be fine. Aidan looked around, the battle around him a blur, both vivid and dull. He vaguely registered one of the slaves tearing up their opponent, an image for later nightmares no doubt, for once not looking past them. The pit fighters going around making quick work made his heart jump, a far off part of his brain squealing how amazing it was he got to fight at their sides. He finished his tying, a moment warm from praising words of those around him.
There was no time for distractions though, looking around to see where to be of help next. At first he wanted to go for a pink and grey kirin but as his route changed as soon as he saw his sister engrossed in battle with a different mean looking kirin. Mean. The idea that these legends were against them somehow, it still felt strange.
He slid up next to them, side-eyeing his sister with a cocky smirk. “Hey, sis, fancy meeting you here. This your new girlfriend?” His moment of attitude got him distracted though and earned him shove in the side from their opponent. He fell over, ribs hurting. Ouch, that was gonna bruise for sure. Eyes widened as he saw a hammer coming down right towards his head, rolling to the side just in time to avoid it. He quickly made a grab for the weapon and managed to wrench it away as he wrestled with himself to get back up, rather ungracefully. He wince, side hurting as he backed up, weapon held tightly. “Think you should dump this one,” he heaved.
He was pretty sure he was bleeding.

JENKO | PIT FIGHTER
Cael. He hadn’t seen her in a while and quite frankly, it started to worry him. “Has anyone seen Cael?” he asked as he swooped his weapon over his shoulder, craning his neck in an attempt to locate her through the ring of fire. He didn’t know her but he didn’t need to look any further either, it seemed. Clouds had formed a little further away, absorbing all of the smoke nearby, including some from the ring. He felt an instant relief as he managed to breathe a little better. A pathway through the ring had been cleared thanks to what he imagined was nothing less than a Lightning blessing. “Misha, Falka. If you can, stand up and get out of here as soon as you can. I will return to you otherwise. For now, I must help the others out. You’ve both done great. Thank you for your service.”
Jenko knew the mare could stand her ground. She knew exactly what she was doing, he was sure of that. Yet he couldn’t help himself. His drive to protect, especially his kin, was too strong to simply stand there and do nothing. He knew he would relentlessly beat himself up after (if he managed to get out of here alive, that is) if he hadn’t interfered.
With that thought in mind, he dashed forward to where he could see a fiery mane in the distance. He called out to her, slaloming through clashing equines and dead bodies left and right. The thought of him galloping through a layer of ashes, which possibly belonged to the corpses of his companions, made him swallow hard, even though his mouth felt as dry as the Seroran desert. “Cael!” he called out once again as he made his way towards her, eyes darting left and right to spot the Kirins. “Are you alright? Oh-“ he started, until he noticed the body. “Damn, girl. You got him real good!” he exclaimed, nudging Cael in a friendly manner.
Jenko’s ears perked sideways as he heard a grunt a little further off. He noticed that this Kirin was alive, unlike the one that Cael had dealt with. He seemed stuck by the looks of it. Jenko had to suppress a laugh at the sight, biting his lip hard. “You got this one too? You’re on fire, it seems.” He said as he approached the struggling Kirin. This one was even prettier than the last one but alas, had to be dealt with all the same. “And where do you think you’re going, buddy? How about we show you around Aodh? I’ve heard the courtroom is lovely.” He said whilst cocking his head to the side.
“Fuck you!” the Kirin responded. “It’s only a matter of time before our beloved King Soleil will burn your city to the ground!” he yelled as he tried to bite Jenko on multiple occasions. Jenko simply took a step back and responded by jamming the backside of his spear onto the Kirin’s temple, knocking him out cold.
He had gathered some more vines with his teke to tie the Kirin up. For good measure, he had also sliced the backside from one of the Kirin’s pasterns to make sure he couldn’t run away, should he wake up and attempt an escape. This one was coming with them for interrogation. With that said, Jenko turned on his heel to return to Misha and Falka.

Isolt | Labor Slave
One moment she was struggling in vain against the kirin, the next she was being violently dragged to the ground with him. He had been hit by a force like an oncoming train, but his teeth had remained firmly gripped to her bridle until they both hit the ground. While the kirin, shocked but urged on by the anger at being hit, had gotten up almost immediately, Isolt did not. She instinctively tried to lift her head at first, but everything became so dizzy that she let it drop back to the ground. She lay still, sides heaving, nostrils flared, as a concerned voice fell over her. She opened her mouth to respond, but no words came out. Her throat was too irritated by the ash and the immense pressure her bridle had put on her throatlatch when the kirin was yanking her around. Instead she settled for a small nod. The labor slave was tiring fast now.
Lying down felt so nice. Her muscles were so tired. She could hardly catch her breath. Not trained for this, she had expended too much of her energy too quickly. And her many injuries that were staining the ground below her certainly did nothing to help. She gave one large, shaking sigh. Perhaps this was it. She did not fear dying, but she hated leaving a job unfinished.
That sense of sudden movement and noise nearby made her open her eyes. Though blurry, she could see the kirin impaling Cael. She wanted to yell out to her, to get up and help, but she couldn't find the energy. Everything seemed so distant. Her ears were ringing, and all the sounds seemed so far off. She watched Cael fall, and, amazingly, somehow, stand again.
Her eyebrows slowly lowered. She closed her eyes, and opened them. A storm was brewing overhead, drawing the smoke from around her. The feeling wasn't immediate, but slowly she could feel her breathing becoming easier, the air less ashy. And then a loud clap of thunder as a lightning bolt suddenly struck right next to her. It could have been the static in the air, or the sharp, startling noise and flash of light, but she was immediately on her hooves. Her eyes were wide, breathing fast, ears still ringing. The kirin that the pitfighter had saved her from lay on the ground dead.
"Hey!" The voice came distant at first, behind the frustrating ringing. "Hey!"
"Hey, slave," she turned, expecting to find an enemy, and drawing herself up only to find an extravagantly dressed champion slowing to a trot. "I thought you were dead, but then you just popped back up!" they said. Isolt could only blink, taking in the charred and torn outfit and mustache that they wore, seemingly out of place among the wreckage of battle. "Come on, let's get you out of here. I think you've had enough."
No sooner had Mateo spoken, then Jace appeared, galloping towards them. She was crazed, the sight of watching most of her comrades fall at the hands of these Aodhians and the loss of her warhammer pushing her over the edge. She came at them with such ferocity that it was all they could do to get out of the way in time. She caught Mateo's jacket with one of her antler tines. It ripped straight through, and the kirin spun back around to face the two as the now shredded cloth fell off Mateo's now bleeding shoulder. The champion let out an aggrieved yell. "Do you know," she shrieked, ignoring the blood seeping from the gash as she jumped forward, "how expensive that was?"
The two clashed, and Isolt was honestly impressed with the precision with which Mateo struck. Every hit was perfectly timed, though not as strong as many of the other fighters. The kirin and the champion scuffled for a moment, seemingly well matched, but then the kirin's strength began to win out. Jace began to land more kicks, and as Mateo jumped away, she struck out hard and caught the champion on the hock. Mateo crumpled - the leg wasn't broken, but she had been momentarily dead-legged. Without hesitation Isolt jumped in. She had forgotten about her exhaustion until she kicked out a few times and her muscles began to resist. She grimaced, and tried to push through.
This kirin was much less scaled than many of the others, which should have made it easier, but Isolt could no longer keep up. Jace was fueled purely by anger, as Isolt had been before, which added power to each of her attacks. Isolt met each hit, but landed few of her own. But then Mateo was back in, clothes discarded, limping but upright, attacking the kirin from the other side. Together they began to make progress, gaining the upper hand and battering the spotted kirin with hooves and teeth. Becoming frustrated and beginning to tire, Jace swung her head wildly, catching one of Isolt's shoulders. It went deep into the muscle, before being forced back out by both of their movement. Isolt landed back on her hooves, and stumbled, unable to support her weight on the shoulder any longer. As she fell Maeto jumped between them.
"Why don't you just give up already?" she provoked. "Most of your friends are dead."

Although Jenko was a pit fighter, it both amazed and terrified Misha a bit, to watch Jenko kill the kirin he'd been fighting few moments earlier. Not wasting a second, he was gone once again, to fight another kirin or help one of the other's. Had he not been a pit fighter, Misha was sure he would have become a nice chevalier. But there wasn't time to think about such things now, not with kirins still on the loose. However, as much as he wanted to get up, his body was just not ready yet. He knew he had to listen to it, if he wanted to help out with the last of the kirins. So instead, Misha kept an eye on Falka, while looking at the other's seeing them work together to take down the kirins. Hell, even Isolt scared him a little, and he winced when he saw her get taken down for a moment. Part of him almost wished to free her, at least until they got back, so she could be free of the bridle and feel proud of her work. He reckoned that not all slaves, if any, were treated that well or got to feel happy or proud of things. Misha was lucky to be a true Aodhian, becoming a chevalier and being here to fight for his herd. But Isolt and Jenko did the same now, fighting for a herd that made money off of them. They needed some praise when they got back and he hoped they'd get it.
With the smoke thick in the air, he could see the other's starting to tire. He knew that they didn't have much time, so he carefully tried to stand up. One leg, two legs, rise. A bit wobbly at first, Misha tried not to take deep breaths and scouted the area for the last kirins that needed to be taken down. He was met with Isolt on the ground, with an angry kirin only held back by Mateo. There was one more, but Misha couldn't see the kirin yet. Instead, he ran to Mateo and Isolt, limping with his injured leg.
Before he made it very far, thanks to the open wound on his leg, the last kirin made it's presence. No weapon in sight and no big antlers, the kirin seemed erratic to deliver some kicks instead. Unfortunately for Misha, he was the closest. With a kick dive, he barely missed getting hit by a cloven hoof. "Mateo, could use your help!" He called out. He knew the last kirin was still facing Isolt, but the other's were nearby, so they'd hopefully be able to swoop in and help her out. Before going, Mateo delivered a kick to the kirin's face, leaving him stunned as Mateo made their way over to Misha. It'd be enough for Isolt to try and get away, either by dodging or running, or for someone else to go in and help.
"We need to take her down, and quick." He called out to Mateo, not wanting to go too much in detail. The smoke from the fires stung his throat, and his eyes were starting to water. He'd kept an eye out for Mateo, and lost sight of the purple kirin in the process. He wasn't running anymore - his limp was too much, and he didn't know where to go. Instead, he tried looking for the kirin, but quickly found her, when he felt the thundering of hooves coming near him. Now alert, he spun around and held up his shield and sword. While the shield was strong, his teke couldn't hold back a kirin galloping at full force. Stumbling backwards, Misha felt lucky that the kirin had no antlers. Mateo was quick to react, and landed a well-aimed kick at the kirins face. It was enough of a distraction for Misha to get back in his hooves and start cutting at the kirins legs. Overwhelmed, the kirin roared and started running, with Mateo and Misha close behind. The wineyard was filled with smoke, so it was hard to see where everyone was headed. Luckily for Misha, the kirin stumbled on the remains of a fence, which was just enough time for Misha to catch up and slash the kirins legs. This time, the kirin didn't run, but instead stopped to face them, knowing that running wouldn't work anymore. Still defending and attacking with only their legs, Mateo and Misha worked together to make the kirin fall, and quickly knocked her out. Jenko had been clever, wanting to trap the other kirin and take them back with them. So, Misha did the same with this one, ordering Mateo to keep an eye on her and injuring her legs, so she wouldn't be able to escape. Meanwhile he gathered vines to bind the kirin with and make a makeshift bridle. Binding the kirin, Misha made sure the vines were tight around the mouth and throat, as well as binding the legs, so they'd only be able to take small steps. Misha stayed back with the kirin, not sure how the other's were doing just yet. He didn't dare wake up the kirin and go back, not until they were sure the rest were down. "Well done Mateo. We'll stay here, make sure she doesn't go anywhere and await the other's reports. This should be over soon"

Ruby | Champion
Aiming a smirk at Aidan, she scoffed "Well you know I like em' rough. But you're right, I don't think she's right for me." She let a chuckle out, taking a second to breath as the kirin disappeared into the flaming fields. The teen wished for nothing more than a nice relaxing bath, and a glass of pilfered wine, and swore to herself that would absolutely be the first thing she did when she got back home.
Through the smoke, the body of a kirin was hazy, but visible. Letting out a sigh, wondering just how many of these assholes were here to ruin her day, she broke away from her brother and galloped towards kirin. However, when she was able to make out who it was, her heart dropped. It was the first kirin she'd faced, and boy they seemed even more enraged than before. Lying before them, was the labor slave she'd seen earlier kill one of the kirins. Racing forward, she didn't have a plan other than attack, which honestly would explain perfectly what happened next.
The kirin obviously saw her coming, and at the last second, stepped back, and as Ruby tried to skid to stop, the kirin lunged forward burying her head and antlers in Ruby's side. In trying to avoid being impaled, along with the combined momentum, Ruby went from upright to knocked clean off her hooves. Skidding on the ground, she rolled a couple times, feeling her wings screaming against the beating they were taking. Searing pain shot up her leg as she stopped though, and she realized she had landed on hot coals, her leg flush against the embers. Scrambling up, she tried not to choke on the scent of burned flesh, instead holding her leg gingerly as Jace came after her, unrelenting.
Once again, Ruby was assaulted by Jace's antlers and wicked temper. It was all she could do to avoid being gored, and was forced to put her weight on her burned leg as she ducked and dodged.
Coming to her rescue for the second time, Chai reappeared, taking the attention off of her. The pair of them faced off against Jace, though neither one of them appeared to even intimidate her a little. However, as much as they were growing tired, so too was the kirin. Ruby desperately wanted to prove herself, that she could hold her own in battle, and that was failing spectacularly. It was time to put her money where her mouth was.
Lunging with only 3 legs with full power was not nearly the same, but with Chai beside her, the pair could do this. Unfurling her wings, Ruby lifted up and looked at Chai. If they hit from above and below, they'd have to hit at least once. Thankfully, the kirins' temper was getting the best of her, and she was so caught up trying to focus on attacking both of them, that she slipped up. Chai rammed into Jace, ripping her horn as deep as she could into the kirin's hind leg, and as Chai pulled away, Ruby swooped down, repeating her earlier attack on Jace. This time however, Jace was crippled and collapsed completely. Not satisfied, Ruby bore down again, dropping straight on the kirin's ribs, hearing a distinct set of cracks as her weight snapped bones. A rattling gasp ripped from Jace, followed by a gurgling sound as blood began to bubble out of her mouth. If Ruby had to guess, one of her snapped ribs had punctured a lung.
The Champion felt absolutely no remorse as the kirin's shuttering gasps faded, just standing weary on three legs as the fire from burning fields illuminated the bloody battle that was finally finished.

You are victorious. The kirins lay dead, and for ten heartbeats, you feel relief wash over you. Then, on the horizon, a new army. A real army, not just a scouting party like the one you just took down. Antlered heads and glistening scales, they march towards you. An open, fearless assault, the attack of an army that knows it will win. With horror and despair, you realize that you will die.
Fields burn. People scream as they run for the cover of the city walls, but some of them are shot down by fire and light and electricity. Opulence could fall to this. Opulence will fall to this. It will burn. It is not ready for a siege.
So far from New Valore, you are terribly alone.
Ignacio watches the fight as it unfolds. Watches from as close as he dares. Even from where he is, on the edge of the Starscape, barely there, he can feel the pull. He is afraid. He is devastated. Yet he knows what he must do.
Brother. Alya stands next to him in all her storm wrought glory. She is already angry, her lands defiled and her blessings tainted. She is angry with him as well. But she came.
Sister. Ignacio’s voice shudders with emotion. Sister, I need your help. The god’s being is laid bare before Alya. She sees his hope, his soaring pride, and his defeat. She had not forgiven his betrayal, but Alya has always been fond of her brother. He was the one dearest to her, once.
You know what I will do. She says, her voice like the beat of a war drum. You know what I must do. Alya presses.
You must do what I cannot. Ignacio looks at the unfolding scene. The fear and pain and the poisonous pride of his children. They are all his children, and he loves them. Only a god could feel so much pain. I choose them. His ancient heart bleeds, but he cannot look away.
Brother. Alya’s voice is almost gentle. For a moment, it is as if they are standing at the edge of creation again, watching a world just born. Let me be your blade. I will do what must be done. Alya spreads her wings and bursts into mortal existence.
Her wings, a galaxy biting into a storm, blot out the sun. The kirins stop, and stare at their ancient enemy. They remember her, just as she remembers them. She remembers her rage. She looks into their eyes, eyes tainted by rage and hatred and superstition, and she remembers each of her children, taken from her before their time. She remembers them in their glory, when they flew across the skies of Eithne into their death. She remembers the Fury who is the mother of this nation. One of hers. One most dear to her. She remembers. She mourns. She rages.
This world is not yours to destroy. Alya’s four wings beat up a storm. The sky darkens and storm clouds gather. Hireath trembles at the rage of a goddess, a goddess unbridled. Never again will you rise to threaten me and mine. I will not let you. A maelstrom of clouds whirls above. Thunder cracks and lightning strikes. She feels her brother’s presence. His anguish twists effortlessly to compliment her rage. Fire and wind were meant to be.
The clouds break. The sky is afire with stars, and with deadly precision, Alya strikes into the kirins. There are no words to be said. No excuses to be given. She is the wind, and today, the wind is destruction. The sky bends to her will, and when the storm settles, the kirin army is no more.
The goddess of winds turns to regard you, the fury of a tornado in her eyes. You will make things right. With a single beat of her wings, she is gone.
The sun shines again. But for a moment, the two moons share the sky with it.
